All participants were followed up for 12 months. Radiographic examinations were performed every 2 months postoperatively, and clinical evaluation was performed using the Constant–Murley score at the last follow-up.Results: Results indicated that patients in Group B showed higher mean scores (90.3±5.4) than Group A (80.4±11.5) in terms of Constant–Murley score (P=0.001). However, its clinicopathological value for EC patients remains inconsistent. To clarify their associations, a meta-analysis of the relevant published literature was conducted.Materials and methods: Databases including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, CISCOM, CINAHL, and Google Scholar were electronically searched. Only those studies analyzing MMP-7 expression in EC patients with regard to series of different demographic variables and clinicopathological stages (TNM stage, differentiation and invasion grade, and lymph-node [LN] metastasis) were eligible for inclusion. Summary odds ratios (ORs) were pooled in accordance with the random-effect model.Results: Fourteen clinical cohort studies (tumor samples =935) were incorporated into the current meta-analysis. Results revealed that increased MMP-7 expression in EC patients was positively correlated to TNM stage III–IV (OR 3.04, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.43–6.46; P=0.004). Objective: To investigate the molecular pathway of substance P (SP) to induce osteoblastic differentiation.Methods: Mesenchymal stem cells were isolated and cultured. The cultures were divided into four groups with Group A (control group) cultured without any factors, Group B cultured with SP, Group C cultured with SP and SP receptor neurokinin-1 (NK1) antagonist, and Group D cultured with SP NK1 antagonist respectively to induce osteoblastic cells differentiation. Osterix gene expression was detected by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for three times after 1-2 weeks of cultivation and the results were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA).Results: The log phase of bone marrow stromal cells appeared at 4-6 days. ALP staining revealed that the majority of cells, more than 95%, were positive and small blue-purple granules were found in the cytoplasm. And Group B, treated with SP, showed a higher level of ALP activity than the other three groups. Meanwhile, RT-PCR found that Osterix expression in Group B was obviously up-regulated, compared with other groups. But Osterix expression in Group D had no remarkable differences, compared with the controls.Conclusions: SP can up-regulate Osterix gene expression to stimulate differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells into osteoblastic cells at the final stage. Mechanical overloading is a major causative factor of tendinopathy; however, its underlying mechanisms are unclear. We hypothesized mechanical overloading would damage tendons and alter genes associated with tendinopathy in a load-dependent manner. To test this hypothesis, we fatigue loaded rat patellar tendons in vivo and measured expression of the matrix-degrading enzyme MMP-13 and the inflammatory cytokine IL-1beta. We also examined these responses in cultured tenocytes exposed to intermittent hydrostatic pressure in vitro. Additionally, we hypothesized load-induced changes in tenocyte MMP-13 expression would be dependent on expression of IL-1beta. In vivo fatigue loading at 1.7% strain caused overt microstructural damage and upregulated expression of MMP-13 and IL-1beta, while 0.6% strain produced only minor changes in matrix microstructure and downregulated expression of both MMP-13 and IL-1beta. Loading of cultured tenocytes at 2.5 and 7.5 MPa produced comparable changes in expression to those of in vivo tendon loading. Blocking IL-1beta expression with siRNA suppressed load-induced both MMP-13 mRNA expression and activity. The data suggest fatigue loading alters expression of MMP-13 and IL-1beta in tendons in vivo and tenocytes in vitro in a load-dependent manner. α-In 2 Se 3 is a promising two-dimensional (2D) ferroelectric semiconductor with unique phase transition behaviors and intrinsic n -type conductivity. However, the origin of this conductivity and the impact of defects on the phase transition remain unclear. In this study, we employed the WLZ method to calculate vacancies' formation energy and ionization energy in monolayer α-In 2 Se 3 and identified the defect-bound band edge states. Our results reveal a strong polarization-defect coupling effect, where the bottom-layer selenium vacancy drives intrinsic n -type conductivity in the sample with upward polarization while reversing the polarization-induced deep p -type defect. Furthermore, we demonstrate that a vacancy stabilizes the ferroelectric phase and reduces the phase transition rate to the paraelectric phase. Finally, we propose a defect-engineered ferroelectric field-effect transistor model that controls the resistance by leveraging the polarization-defect coupling effect. This work highlights the significant roles of vacancy defects in 2D α-In 2 Se 3 , offering strategies to design In 2 Se 3 electronic devices at the nanoscale.

The introduction of intermediate bands by hyperdoping is an efficient way to realize infrared light absorption of silicon. In this Letter, inert element (helium and argon for specific)-doped black silicon is obtained by helium ion-implantation followed by femtosecond pulse laser irradiation in an argon atmosphere based on near-intrinsic silicon substrates. Within the 200 nm of the silicon surface, the concentrations of helium and argon are both above the order of 10 19  cm -3 . The defect states related to impurities and structural defects contribute to the absorption in sub-bandgap (1100-2500 nm). Vertically structured devices based on the inert element-doped black silicon exhibit the responsivity of 350 mA/W for 1550 nm and 165 mA/W for 1310 nm at 12 V operating bias, respectively, proving its potential application in infrared detection.

A plane blackbody serves as a standard radiation source, providing a precise quantitative relationship between input radiation and the output of infrared detectors, which is essential component of space infrared remote sensing instruments. However, current plane blackbodies fabricated by coating or surface structuring are unable to achieve uniform and stable high absorption in the ultrawide spectral range spanning the UV-VIS-NIR-MIR. Here, a femtosecond laser "V"- scanning method is proposed for the fabrication of cross-scale multi-layered micro- and nanocomposite structures on copper surfaces to realize ultrawide spectrum metallic plane blackbody with high absorption. The structures consist of a micrometer cone-tip structure with a depth-to-width ratio of 7:1 (period 30 µm, depth 210 µm), an oxide layer with a thickness of more than 2 µm, and nanoparticles of different sizes, achieving uniform high absorption rates exceeding 99% in the localized spectral range of 400-700 nm and over 98% from the UV to MIR range of 200 nm to 25 µm. Charge density wave (CDW) is the phenomenon of a material that undergoes a spontaneous lattice distortion and modulation of the electron density. Typically, the formation of CDW is attributed to Fermi surface nesting or electron-phonon coupling, where the CDW vector (Q CDW ) corresponds to localized extreme points of electronic susceptibility or imaginary phonon frequencies. Here, we propose a new family of multiple CDW orders, including chiral Star-of-David configuration in nine 2D III 2 -VI 3 van der Waals materials, backed by first-principles calculations. The distinct feature of this system is the presence of large and flat imaginary frequencies in the optical phonon branch across the Brillouin zone, which facilitates the formation of the diverse CDW phases. The electronic structures of 2D III 2 -VI 3 materials are relatively simple, with only III-s,p and VI-p orbitals contributing to the formation of the CDW order. Despite that, the CDW transitions involve both metal-to-insulator and insulator-to-insulator transitions, accompanied by a significant increase in the bandgap caused by an enhanced electronic localization. Quantum sensing has emerged as a powerful technique to detect and measure physical and chemical parameters with exceptional precision. One of the methods is to use optically active spin defects within solid-state materials. These defects act as sensors and have made significant progress in recent years, particularly in the realm of two-dimensional (2D) spin defects. In this article, we focus on the latest trends in quantum sensing that use spin defects in van der Waals (vdW) materials. We discuss the benefits of combining optically addressable spin defects with 2D vdW materials while highlighting the challenges and opportunities to use these defects. To make quantum sensing practical and applicable, the article identifies some areas worth further exploration. These include identifying spin defects with properties suitable for quantum sensing, generating quantum defects on demand with control of their spatial localization, understanding the impact of layer thickness and interface on quantum sensing, and integrating spin defects with photonic structures for new functionalities and higher emission rates. The article explores the potential applications of quantum sensing in several fields, such as superconductivity, ferromagnetism, 2D nanoelectronics, and biology. For instance, combining nanoscale microfluidic technology with nanopore and quantum sensing may lead to a new platform for DNA sequencing. Atomic force microscope generally works by manipulating the absolute magnitude of the van der Waals force between tip and specimen. This force is, however, less sensitive to atom species than to tip-sample separations, making compositional identification difficult, even under multi-modal strategies or other atomic force microscopy variations. Here, we report the phenomenon of a light-modulated tip-sample van der Waals force whose magnitude is found to be material specific, which can be employed to discriminate heterogeneous compositions of materials. We thus establish a near-field microscopic method, named light-modulated van der Waals force microscopy. Experiments discriminating heterogeneous crystalline phases or compositions in typical materials demonstrate a high compositional resolving capability, represented by a 20 dB signal-to-noise ratio on a MoTe 2 film under the excitation of a 633 nm laser of 1.2 mW, alongside a sub-10 nm lateral spatial resolution, smaller than the tip size of 20 nm. The simplicity of the light modulation mechanism, minute excitation light power, broadband excitation wavelength, and diversity of the applicable materials imply broad applications of this method on material characterization, particularly on two-dimensional materials that are promising candidates for next-generation chips., (© 2024. Background: The diagnosis and treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) comorbid with epilepsy have been insufficiently addressed in China. We conducted a study in China to investigate the current status, diagnosis, and treatment of ADHD in children to further our understanding of ADHD comorbid with epilepsy, strengthen its management, and improve patients' quality of life., Methods: We carried out a multicenter cross-sectional survey of children with epilepsy across China between March 2022 and August 2022. We screened all patients for ADHD and compared various demographic and clinical factors between children with and without ADHD, including gender, age, age at epilepsy onset, duration of epilepsy, seizure types, seizure frequency, presence of epileptiform discharges, and treatment status. Our objective was to explore any possible associations between these characteristics and the prevalence of ADHD., Results: Overall, 395 epilepsy patients aged 6-18 years were enrolled. The age at seizure onset and duration of epilepsy ranged from 0.1-18 to 0.5-15 years, respectively. Focal onset seizures were observed in 212 (53.6%) patients, while 293 (76.3%) patients had epileptiform interictal electroencephalogram (EEG) abnormalities. Among the 370 patients treated with anti-seizure medications, 200 (54.1%) had monotherapy. Although 189 (47.8%) patients had ADHD, only 31 received treatment for it, with the inattentive subtype being the most common. ADHD was more common in children undergoing polytherapy compared to those on monotherapy. Additionally, poor seizure control and the presence of epileptiform interictal EEG abnormalities may be associated with a higher prevalence of ADHD., Conclusions: While the prevalence of ADHD was higher in children with epilepsy than in normal children, the treatment rate was notably low. The current selection of ligands for both proteins of interest (POI) and E3 ubiquitin ligase significantly restricts the scope of targeted protein degradation (TPD) technologies. This study introduces cell-penetrating peptide-induced chimera conjugates (cp-PCCs) targeting the DHHC3 enzyme involved in PD-L1 palmitoylation. This approach disrupts PD-L1's immunosuppressive function, enhancing anti-tumor immunity. We developed cp-PCCs to degrade DHHC3, directly linking DHHC3-mediated PD-L1 palmitoylation to PD-L1 stability on tumor cells. Our research utilized both in vitro assays and in vivo experiments in immune checkpoint blockade-resistant mouse models. We focused on a CRBN-based cp-PCC named PCC16, which demonstrated a DC50 of 102 nmol for DHHC3 degradation and significantly reduced PD-L1 levels. In resistant models, PCC16 not only robustly downregulated PD-L1 but also exhibited substantial anti-tumor activity in vivo without significant toxicity. This outperformed traditional inhibitors, showcasing the potential of cp-PCC technology to bypass current PROTAC limitations. Our findings suggest that cp-PCCs offer a promising method for targeting PD-L1 through DHHC3 inhibition and support their continued exploration as a versatile tool in cancer immunotherapy, especially for tumors resistant to standard treatments., (© 2024. Organic fluorophores with tunable π-conjugated paths have attracted considerable attention owing to their diverse properties and promising applications. Herein, we present a tailored butterfly-like molecule, 2,2'-(2,5-bis (2,2-diphenylvinyl)-1,4-phenylene)dinaphthalene (BDVPN), which exhibits diverse photophysical features in its two polymorphs. The BP phase crystal, with its "aligned wings" conformation, possesses emissive characteristics that are nearly identical to those in dilute solutions. In contrast, the BN phase crystal, which adopts an "orthogonal wings" conformation, exhibits an unusual hypsochromic-shifted emission compared to its dilute solution counterparts. This intriguing hypsochromic-shifted emission originates from the reduction in the effective conjugated length of the molecular skeleton. Notably, BN phase crystals also exhibit exceptional optical performance, featuring high-efficiency emission (76.6 %), low-loss optical waveguides (0.571 dB mm -1 ), deep-blue amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) with narrow full width at half maximum (FWHM: 6.4 nm), and a unique 200 nm bathochromic shift of piezochromic luminescence., (© 2024 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

Layered Na 2 FePO 4 F (NFPF) cathode material has received widespread attention due to its green nontoxicity, abundant raw materials, and low cost. However, its poor inherent electronic conductivity and sluggish sodium ion transportation seriously impede its capacity delivery and cycling stability. In this work, NFPF by Ti doping and conformal carbon layer coating via solid-state reaction is modified. The results of experimental study and density functional theory calculations reveal that Ti doping enhances intrinsic conductivity, accelerates Na-ion transport, and generates more Na-ion storage sites, and pyrolytic carbon from polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) uniformly coated on the NFPF surface improves the surface/interface conductivity and suppresses the side reactions. Under the combined effect of Ti doping and carbon coating, the optimized NFPF (marked as 5T-NF@C) exhibits excellent electrochemical performance, with a high capacity of 108.4 mAh g -1 at 0.2C, a considerable capacity of 80.0 mAh g -1 even at high current density of 10C, and a high capacity retention rate of 81.8% after 2000 cycles at 10C. When assembled into a full cell with a hard carbon anode, 5T-NF@C also show good applicability. The emitter-cavity strong coupling manifests crucial significance for exploiting quantum technology, especially in the scale of individual emitters. However, due to the small light-matter interaction cross-section, the single emitter-cavity strong coupling has been limited by its harsh requirement on the quality factor of the cavity and the local density of optical states. Herein, we present a strategy termed waveguide-assisted energy quantum transfer (WEQT) to improve the single emitter-cavity coupling strength by extending the interaction cross-section. Multiple ancillary emitters are optically linked by a waveguide, providing an indirect coupling channel to transfer the energy quantum between target emitter and cavity. An enhancement factor of coupling strength g ̃ / g > 10 can be easily achieved, which dramatically release the rigorous design of cavity. Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 2 F 3 (NVPF) is emerging as a popular cathode for sodium-ion batteries owing to its stable structure, high operating voltage, and large energy density. However, its practical application is hindered by its low conductivity. In addition, due to the loss of fluorine during synthesis, Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 (NVP) impurity is often easily generated, resulting in a decrease in actual operating voltage. Herein, a bifunctional carbon network composed of an N-doped carbon layer and carbon bridge is constructed around NVPF particles. Through pyrolysis of polydopamine (PDA), the NVPF particles are covered in situ by an N-doped carbon layer, and the carbon bridge generated by polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is also coated with N-doped carbon. Besides, PTFE also serves as a fluorine supplement to ensure that pure NVPF is obtained. As a result, the bifunctional N-doped carbon network-modified NVPF delivers a high reversible capacity (125.7 mA h g -1 at 0.2 C) and appreciable cycle stability (92.7% at 1 C over 300 cycles, and 89.8% at 10 C over 1500 cycles). When assembled into a full cell with a commercial hard carbon anode, it displays a discharge median voltage of up to 3.62 V at 0.2 C. Furthermore, it achieves a high energy density of 373.7 W h kg -1 at a power density of 461.2 W kg -1 , with an excellent specific energy retention of 78.2% after 200 cycles. Therefore, this modification method is expected to be extended to other fluorine-containing materials with poor electrical conductivity.

Objective: To evaluate the risk factors of new osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs) after percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP)., Methods: From January 2016 to November 2019, patients suffering from OVCFs were retrospectively reviewed. The independent influence factors for new OVCFs after PVP were assessed, from following variables: age, sex, body mass index, bone mineral density (BMD), history of alcoholism, smoking, hypertension, diabetes, glucocorticoid use, and prior vertebral fractures, the number of initial fractures, mean cement volume, method of puncture, D-type of cement leakage, and regular antiosteoporosis treatment., Results: A total of 268 patients with 347 levels met the inclusion criteria and were finally included in this study. Forty-nine levels of new OVCFs among 33 patients (12.31%) were observed during the follow-up period. It indicated that female (adjusted odds ratio [OR]: 6.812, 95% confidence interval {CI}: [1.096, 42.337], P = 0.040), lower BMD (adjusted OR: 0.477, 95% CI: [0.300, 0.759], P = 0.002), prior vertebral fractures (adjusted OR: 16.145, 95% CI: [5.319, 49.005], P = 0.000), and regular antiosteoporosis treatment (adjusted OR: 0.258, 95% CI: [0.086, 0.774], P = 0.016) were independent influence factors for new OVCF. The cut-off value of BMD to reach new OVCF was -3.350, with a sensitivity of 0.660 and a specificity of 0.848., Conclusion: Female, lower BMD (T-score of lumbar), prior vertebral fractures, and regular antiosteoporosis treatment were independent influencing factors. BMD (T-score of lumbar) lower than -3.350 would increase risk for new OVCF, and none osteoporotic treatment has detrimental effect on new onset fractures following PVP., (Copyright © 2024 Elsevier Inc. Organic cathode materials for aqueous rechargeable zinc batteries (ARZBs) are rapidly gaining prominence, while the exploration of compounds with affordable synthesis, satisfactory electrochemical performance, and understandable mechanisms still remains challenging. In this study, 6,8,15,17-tetraaza-heptacene-5,7,9,14,16,18-hexaone (TAHQ) as an easily synthesized organic cathode material with novel quinone/pyrazine alternately conjugated molecule structure is presented. This organic electrode exhibits good capacity with highly reversible redox reactions, and the influence of multi-active structures on the Zn 2+ /H + loading behavior is systematically investigated by ex situ spectroscopy, electrochemical tests, and computation. Both experimental and theoretical studies effectively address the Zn 2+ /H + intercalation/deintercalation kinetics. Benefitting from the fused active functionalities, the assembled Zn//TAHQ battery displays a maximum discharge specific capacity of 254.3 mAh g -1 at 0.5 A g -1 , and it maintains remarkable cycle performance with 71% capacity retention after 1000 cycles under 5 A g -1 ., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

Eleven new highly oxygenated eremophilane-type sesquiterpenoids were isolated from the whole plant of Synotis solidaginea, including two pairs of C-8 S/R epimers. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated on the basis of detailed spectroscopic analysis and the absolute configurations of 1 and 9 were confirmed by single-crystal X-ray crystallography using Cu Kα radiation. All the isolates were tested for the inhibition of LPS-stimulated NO production in macrophage-like mouse monocytic leukemia RAW264.7 cells. Crystallization is a fundamental phenomenon which describes how the atomic building blocks such as atoms and molecules are arranged into ordered or quasi-ordered structure and form solid-state materials. While numerous studies have focused on the nucleation behavior, the precise and spatiotemporal control of growth kinetics, which dictates the defect density, the micromorphology, as well as the properties of the grown materials, remains elusive so far. Herein, we propose an optical strategy, termed optofluidic crystallithography (OCL), to solve this fundamental problem. Taking halide perovskites as an example, we use a laser beam to manipulate the molecular motion in the native precursor environment and create inhomogeneous spatial distribution of the molecular species. Harnessing the coordinated effect of laser-controlled local supersaturation and interfacial energy, we precisely steer the ionic reaction at the growth interface and directly print arbitrary single crystals of halide perovskites of high surface quality, crystallinity, and uniformity at a high printing speed of 10 2 μm s -1 . The OCL technique can be potentially extended to the fabrication of single-crystal structures beyond halide perovskites, once crystallization can be triggered under the laser-directed local supersaturation., (© 2024. Seeking organic cathode materials with low cost and long cycle life that can be employed for large-scale energy storage remains a significant challenge. This work has synthesized an organic compound, triphenazino[2,3-b](1,4,5,8,9,12-hexaazatriphenylene) (TPHATP), with as high as 87.16% yield. This compound has a highly π-conjugated and rigid molecular structure, which is synthesized by capping hexaketocyclohexane with three molecules of 2,3-diaminophenazine derived from low-cost o-phenylenediamine, and is used as a cathode material for assembling aqueous rechargeable zinc ion batteries. Both experiments and DFT calculations demonstrate that the redox mechanism of TPHATP is predominantly governed by H + storage. The Zn-intercalation product of nitride-type compound, is too unstable to form in water. Moreover, the TPHATP cathode exhibits a capacity of as high as 318.3 mAh g -1 at 0.1 A g -1 , and maintained a stable capacity of 111.9 mAh g -1 at a large current density of 10 A g -1 for 5000 cycles with only a decay of 0.000512% per cycle. Fe-based Prussian blue (Fe-PB) analogues have emerged as promising cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries, owing to their cost-effectiveness, high theoretical capacity, and environmental friendliness. However, their practical application is hindered by [Fe(CN) 6 ] defects, negatively impacting capacity and cycle stability. This work reports a hollow layered Fe-PB composite material using 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid (BTA) as a chelating and etching agent by the hydrothermal method. Compared to benzoic acid, our approach significantly reduces defects and enhances the yield of Fe-PB. Notably, the hollow layered structure shortens the diffusion path of sodium ions, enhances the activity of low-spin Fe in the Fe-PB lattice, and mitigates volume changes during Na-ion insertion/extraction into/from Fe-PB. As a sodium-ion battery cathode, this hollow layered Fe-PB exhibits an impressive initial capacity of 95.9 mAh g -1 at a high current density of 1 A g -1 . Even after 500 cycles, it still maintains a considerable discharge capacity of 73.1 mAh g -1 , showing a significantly lower capacity decay rate (0.048%) compared to the control sample (0.089%). Moreover, the full cell with BTA-PB-1.6 as the cathode and HC as the anode provides a considerable energy density of 312.2 Wh kg -1 at a power density of 291.0 W kg -1 . This research not only enhances the Na storage performance of Fe-PB but also increases the yield of products obtained by hydrothermal methods, providing some technical reference for the production of PB materials using the low-yield hydrothermal method.

Background: Chemotherapy and chemoradiation have become essential adjuncts to improve the survival of patients with resectable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) in the perioperative period. Although preoperative treatment plus surgery is commonly used, controversy remains regarding the optimal treatment strategy for patients with locally advanced ESCC., Methods: A retrospective review of clinical stage II and III ESCC patients who underwent esophagectomy at Henan Cancer Hospital between October 2014 and October 2017 was performed. The patients were divided into a neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) group and an adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) group. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to exclude confounders. Survival was estimated using Kaplan‒Meier analysis and compared by the log-rank test. The Cox proportional hazards regression model was used for both the univariate and multivariate analyses., Results: A total of 684 patients were enrolled, including 365 (53.4%) patients in the NAC group. After PSM, 294 pairs of patients were left. NAC prolonged the OS (not reached versus 57.3 months, P = 0.002) and DFS (57.2 vs. 36.4 months, P = 0.010) and decreased the total rate of recurrence (50.1% vs. 59.2%, P = 0.025) and local recurrence (27.9% vs. 36.7%, P = 0.022) compared with AC. The multivariable analyses showed that NAC plus surgery modality was an independent predictor for improved OS (HR: 0.582, 95% CI: 0.467-0.786, P = 0.001)., Conclusion: NAC plus surgery prolonged OS and DFS, and significantly decreased the total rate of recurrence compared with surgery plus AC in patients with clinical stage II and III ESCC., (© 2023. Gastric peroral endoscopic myotomy (G-POME) is an emerging minimally invasive endoscopic technique involving the establishment of a submucosal tunnel around the pyloric sphincter. In 2013, Khashab et al used G-POME for the first time in the treatment of gastroparesis with enhanced therapeutic efficacy, providing a new direction for the treatment of gastroparesis. With the recent and rapid development of G-POME therapy technology, progress has been made in the treatment of gastroparesis and other upper digestive tract diseases, such as congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis and gastric sleeve stricture, with G-POME. Flexible multiplexing chips that permit reconfigurable multidimensional channel utilization are indispensable for revolutionary 6G terahertz communications, but the insufficient manipulation capability of terahertz waves prevents their practical implementation. Herein, we propose the first experimental demonstration of a flexible multiplexing chip for terahertz communication by revealing the unique mechanism of topological phase (TP) transition and perseveration in a heterogeneously coupled bilayer valley Hall topological photonic system. The synthetic and individual TPs operated in the coupled and decoupled states enable controllable on-chip modular TP transitions and subchannel switching. Two time-frequency interleaved subchannels support 10- and 12-Gbit/s QAM-16 high-speed data streams along corresponding paths over carriers of 120 and 130 GHz with 2.5- and 3-GHz bandwidths, respectively. Invisibility, a fascinating ability of hiding objects within environments, has attracted broad interest for a long time. However, current invisibility technologies are still restricted to stationary environments and narrow band. Here, we experimentally demonstrate a Chimera metasurface for multiterrain invisibility by synthesizing the natural camouflage traits of various poikilotherms. The metasurface achieves chameleon-like broadband in situ tunable microwave reflection mimicry of realistic water surface, shoal, beach/desert, grassland, and frozen ground from 8 to 12 GHz freely via the circuit-topology-transited mode evolution, while remaining optically transparent as an invisible glass frog. Additionally, the mechanic-driven Chimera metasurface without active electrothermal effect, owning a bearded dragon-like thermal acclimation, can decrease the maximum thermal imaging difference to 3.1 °C in tested realistic terrains, which cannot be recognized by human eyes. Two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors, such as transition metal dichalcogenides, have emerged as important candidate materials for next-generation chip-scale optoelectronic devices with the development of large-scale production techniques, such as chemical vapor deposition (CVD). However, 2D materials need to be transferred to other target substrates after growth, during which various micro- and nanoscale defects, such as nanobubbles, are inevitably generated. These nanodefects not only influence the uniformity of 2D semiconductors but also may significantly alter the local optoelectronic properties of the composed devices. Hence, super-resolution discrimination and characterization of nanodefects are highly demanded. Here, we report a near-field nanophotoluminescence (nano-PL) microscope that can quickly screen nanobubbles and investigate their impact on local excitonic properties of 2D semiconductors by directly visualize the PL emission distribution with a very high spatial resolution of ∼10 nm, far below the optical diffraction limit, and a high speed of 10 ms/point under ambient conditions. By using nano-PL microscopy to map the exciton and trion emission intensity distributions in transferred CVD-grown monolayer tungsten disulfide (1L-WS 2 ) flakes, it is found that the PL intensity decreases by 13.4% as the height of the nanobubble increases by every nanometer, which is mainly caused by the suppression of trion emission due to the strong doping effect from the substrate. In addition to the nanobubbles, other types of nanodefects, such as cracks, stacks, and grain boundaries, can also be characterized. The nano-PL method is proven to be a powerful tool for the nondestructive quality inspection of nanodefects as well as the super-resolution exploration of local optoelectronic properties of 2D materials.

Atomic and close-to-atom scale manufacturing is a promising avenue toward single-photon emitters, single-electron transistors, single-atom memory, and quantum-bit devices for future communication, computation, and sensing applications. Laser manufacturing is outstanding to this end for ease of beam manipulation, batch production, and no requirement for photomasks. It is, however, suffering from optical diffraction limits. Herein, we report a spatial resolution improved to the quantum limit by exploiting a threshold tracing and lock-in method, whereby the two-order gap between atomic point defect complexes and optical diffraction limit is surpassed, and a feature size of <5 nm is realized. The underlying physics is that the uncertainty of local atom thermal motion dominates electron excitation, rather than the power density slope of the incident laser. We show that the colour centre yield in hexagonal boron nitride is transformed from stochastic to deterministic, and the emission from individual sites becomes polychromatic to monochromatic. As a result, single colour centres in the regular array are deterministically created with a unity yield and high positional accuracy, serving as a step forward for integrated quantum technological applications., (© 2024. This study was completed to evaluate the relationship between tumor length and the prognosis of patients with pathological stage IA-IC esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC). Patients were identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program database (United States, 2006-2015). X-tile software and ROC analysis were mainly used to explore the best threshold of tumor length for dividing patients into different groups, and then propensity score matching (PSM) was used to balance other variables between groups. The primary outcome assessed was overall survival (OS). A total of 762 patients were identified, and 500 patients were left after PSM. Twenty millimeters were used as the threshold of tumor length. Patients with longer tumor lengths showed worse OS (median: 93 vs. 128 months; P = 0.006). Multivariable Cox regression analysis showed that longer tumor length was an independent risk factor (hazard ratio 1.512, 95% confidence interval, 1.158-1.974, P = 0.002). Tumor length has an impact on patients with pathological stage IA-IC EAC who undergo surgery alone. Actinomycins are known for their anti-tumor, antibacterial and antiviral activities, and in particular for the ability of actinomycin D as a clinical drug to treat a variety of cancers. In our ongoing work to obtain novel natural products from endophytic actinomycetes derived from traditional Chinese herbs, we identified the potential to produce actinomycins in YINM00002, a Kitasatospora strain derived from Polygonatum kingianum . According to genome mining, we isolated actinomycins D and V (1 and 2) and small amounts of 4-methyl-3-hydroxyanthranilic acid (4-MHA) derivates (3 and 4) from strain fermentation broth. The presence of actinrhater A (3) and actinrhater B (4) reveals a mysterious shunt pathway in the early stages of actinomycin D biosynthesis. Objective: To investigate the application value of computed tomography (CT) examination of lymph node short diameter in evaluating cardia-left gastric lymph node metastasis in thoracic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Methods: A total of 477 patients with primary thoracic ESCC who underwent surgical treatment in the Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2013 to December 2017 were collected. All of them underwent McKeown esophagectomy plus complete two-field or three-field lymph node dissection. Picture archiving and communication system were used to measure the largest cardia-left gastric lymph node short diameter in preoperative CT images. The postoperative pathological diagnosis results of cardia-left gastric lymph node were used as the gold standard. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the efficacy of CT lymph node short diameter in detecting the metastasis of cardia-left gastric lymph node in thoracic ESCC, and determine the optimal cut-off value. Results: The median short diameter of the largest cardia-left gastric lymph node was 4.1 mm in 477 patients, and the largest cardia-left gastric lymph node short diameter was less than 3 mm in 155 cases (32.5%). Sixty-eight patients had cardia-left gastric lymph node metastases, of which 38 had paracardial node metastases and 41 had left gastric node metastases. The lymph node ratios of paracardial node and left gastric node were 4.0% (60/1 511) and 3.3% (62/1 887), respectively. ROC curve analysis showed that the area under the curve of CT lymph node short diameter for evaluating cardia-left gastric lymph node metastasis was 0.941 (95% CI: 0.904-0.977; P <0.05). The optimal cut-off value of CT examination of the cardia-left gastric lymph node short diameter was 6 mm, and the corresponding sensitivity, specificity and accuracy were 85.3%, 91.7%, and 90.8%, respectively. Conclusion: CT examination of lymph node short diameter can be a good evaluation of cardia-left gastric lymph node metastasis in thoracic ESCC, and the optimal cut-off value is 6 mm.

Background: Congenital agenesis of the gallbladder (CAGB) is a rare condition often misdiagnosed as cholecystolithiasis, leading to unnecessary surgeries. Accurate diagnosis and surgical exploration are crucial in patients with suspected CAGB or atypical gallbladder stone symptoms. Preoperative imaging, such as magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP), plays a vital role in confirming the diagnosis. Careful intraoperative dissection is necessary to avoid iatrogenic injuries and misdiagnosis. Multidisciplinary consultations and collaboration, along with the use of various diagnostic methods, can minimize associated risks., Case Summary: We present the case of a 34-year-old female with suspected gallbladder stones, ultimately diagnosed with CAGB through surgical exploration. The patient underwent laparoscopic examination followed by open exploratory surgery, which confirmed absence of the gallbladder. Subsequent imaging studies supported the diagnosis. The patient received appropriate postoperative care and experienced a successful recovery., Conclusion: This case highlights the rarity of CAGB and the importance of considering this condition in the differential diagnosis of patients with gallbladder stone symptoms. Accurate diagnosis using preoperative imaging, such as MRCP, is crucial to prevent unnecessary surgeries. Surgeons should exercise caution and conduct meticulous dissection during surgery to avoid iatrogenic injuries and ensure accurate diagnosis. Multidisciplinary collaboration and utilization of various diagnostic methods are essential to minimize the risk of misdiagnosis. 3D printing of inorganic materials with nanoscale resolution offers a different materials processing pathway to explore devices with emergent functionalities. However, existing technologies typically involve photocurable resins that reduce material purity and degrade properties. We develop a general strategy for laser direct printing of inorganic nanomaterials, as exemplified by more than 10 semiconductors, metal oxides, metals, and their mixtures. Colloidal nanocrystals are used as building blocks and photochemically bonded through their native ligands. Without resins, this bonding process produces arbitrary three-dimensional (3D) structures with a large inorganic mass fraction (~90%) and high mechanical strength. The printed materials preserve the intrinsic properties of constituent nanocrystals and create structure-dictated functionalities, such as the broadband chiroptical responses with an anisotropic factor of ~0.24 for semiconducting cadmium chalcogenide nanohelical arrays.
