We describe the present status of the computing system in the Belle experiment at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ asymmetric-energy collider. So far, we have logged more than 160 fb$^{-1}$ of data, corresponding to the world's largest data sample of 170M $B\bar{B}$ pairs at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ energy region. A large amount of event data has to be processed to produce an analysis event sample in a timely fashion. In addition, Monte Carlo events have to be created to control systematic errors accurately. This requires stable and efficient usage of computing resources. Here we review our computing model and then describe how we efficiently proceed DST/MC productions in our system., Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures, talk given at ACAT03, Tsukuba, KEK, December 1-5, Japan

The invariance of the standard model (SM) under the CPT transformation predicts equality of particle and antiparticle masses. This prediction is tested by measuring the mass difference between the top quark and antiquark (Δmt=mt−mt) that are produced in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8TeV, using events with a muon or an electron and at least four jets in the final state. The analysis is based on data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.6fb−1collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, and yields a value of Δmt=−0.15 ±0.19 (stat)±0.09 (syst)GeV, which is consistent with the SM expectation. This result is significantly more precise than previously reported measurements.

The RCA procedure is robust. A. RCA does not introduce technical variability. Each individual plasmid DNA was run as four independent replicates for both conditions (with or without RCA). The technical reproducibility of the variant frequency call was evaluated by calculating the standard deviation within the four replicates. Value are plotted for each individual position of the reference sequence, for the two plasmids sequenced. Data are directly extracted from mpileup analysis applying a VarScan p-value threshold of 0.001. Left panels: plasmid 1, right panels: plasmid 2, top panels: crude plasmid DNA (no RCA amplification), bottom panels: RCA amplified plasmid DNA. B. Origin of the nonspecific RCA products. The sequences surrounding the unique position for which a large difference was observed between the crude plasmid DNAs and the RCA products were aligned. The sequence obtained from contaminating NTC reads is shown. The common (between the two plasmids) non-accurate position is boxed (“G” in the NTC, “A” in the two plasmids). This region is part of the plasmid DNA origin of replication. (PPTX 178 kb)

RCA enriches circular versus linear templates. A. Principle of circular DNA enrichment. A single priming event will generate several concatenated copies of a circular template. At the opposite, a single copy will be amplified if the template DNA is linear. B. The RCA amplified material is mostly mtDNA. Digestion of the mouse DNA RCA product with the SpeI restriction endonuclease results in the expected mtDNA digestion product with only low amount of undigested DNA left. SpeI restriction digest is expected to result in four fragments for the B6D2F1 strain (7’398, 3’759, 3’105, and 2’035 bp) and five fragments for the NMRI strain (7’398, 3’105, 2’150, 2’037, and 1609 bp). Ladder sizes imprecision is in accordance with the Agilent Genomic DNA ScreenTape specifications. (PPTX 133 kb)

Mouse SNV frequencies are homogenous within the 88 position analyzed. A. Individual SNV frequency. For the 12 mouse mtDNA mixture ratios tested, the frequencies measured for each SNV (88 in total) were plotted and summarized as a boxplot. The boxplot whiskers highlight the extreme values (min and max). Note that the scale is different for each plot. The eight positions showing the highest frequency underestimation are highlighted in blue. These data were used to build the Fig. 4. The raw data are available from the Additional file 7. B. The eight SNV with underestimated frequency are located into two dense clusters. For each 88 SNV, the deviation from the theoretical frequency was calculated and plotted versus their position in the mitochondrial genome. The eight positions showing a systematic frequency underestimation highlighted in A. are also shown in blue. They cluster into two very short genomic regions. (PPTX 484 kb)

Measurements are reported of differential cross sections for the production of a W boson, which decays into a muon and a neutrino, in association with jets, as a function of several variables, including the transverse momenta (pT) and pseudorapidities of the four leading jets, the scalar sum of jet transverse momenta (HT), and the difference in azimuthal angle between the directions of each jet and the muon. The data sample of pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV was collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb−1. The measured cross sections are compared to predictions from Monte Carlo generators, MADGRAPH + PYTHIA and SHERPA, and to next-to-leading-order calculations from BLACKHAT + SHERPA. The differential cross sections are found to be in agreement with the predictions, apart from the pT distributions of the leading jets at high pT values, the distributions of the HT at high-HT and low jet multiplicity, and the distribution of the difference in azimuthal angle between the leading jet and the muon at low values. The razor approach to search for R–parity conserving supersymmetric particles is described in detail. Two analyses are considered: an inclusive search for new heavy particle pairs decaying to final states with at least two jets and missing transverse energy, and a dedicated search for final states with at least one jet originating from a bottom quark. For both the inclusive study and the study requiring a bottom-quark jet, the data are examined in exclusive final states corresponding to all-hadronic, single-lepton, and dilepton events. The study is based on the data set of proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2011, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb−1. The study consists of a shape analysis performed in the plane of two kinematic variables, denoted MR and R2, that correspond to the mass and transverse energy flow, respectively, of pair-produced, heavy, new-physics particles. The data are found to be compatible with the background model, defined by studying event simulations and data control samples. Exclusion limits for squark and gluino production are derived in the context of the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model (CMSSM) and also for simplified-model spectra (SMS). Within the CMSSM parameter space considered, squark and gluino masses up to 1350 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level, depending on the model parameters. For SMS scenarios, the direct production of pairs of top or bottom squarks is excluded for masses as high as 400 GeV. ISSN:1550-7998 ISSN:0556-2821 ISSN:1550-2368

High Energy Physics::Experiment - Abstract
Measurements of the inclusive jet cross section with the anti-kT clustering algorithm are presented for two radius parameters, R=0.5 and 0.7. They are based on data from LHC proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb−1 collected with the CMS detector in 2011. The ratio of these two measurements is obtained as a function of the rapidity and transverse momentum of the jets. Significant discrepancies are found comparing the data to leading-order simulations and to fixed-order calculations at next-to-leading order, corrected for nonperturbative effects, whereas simulations with next-to-leading-order matrix elements matched to parton showers describe the data best., Physical Review D, 90 (7), ISSN:1550-7998, ISSN:0556-2821, ISSN:1550-2368

Event-shape variables, which are sensitive to perturbative and nonperturbative aspects of quantum chromodynamic (QCD) interactions, are studied in multijet events recorded in proton-proton collisions at s√=7 TeV. Events are selected with at least one jet with transverse momentum p T > 110 GeV and pseudorapidity |η| < 2.4, in a data sample corresponding to integrated luminosities of up to 5 fb−1. A search for supersymmetry through the direct pair production of top squarks, with Higgs (H) or Z bosons in the decay chain, is performed using a data sample of proton–proton collisions at √s = 8TeV collected in 2012 with the CMS detector at the LHC. The sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb−1. The search is performed using a selection of events containing leptons and bottom-quark jets. No evidence for a significant excess of events over the standard model background prediction is observed. The results are interpreted in the context of simplified supersymmetric models with pair production of a heavier top-squark mass eigenstate decaying to a lighter top-squark mass eigenstate t1 via either t2 -> Ht1 or t2 -> Zt1 , followed in both cases by t1 -> tx1 0, where x1 0 is an undetected, stable, lightest supersymmetric particle. The interpretation is performed in the region where the mass difference between the t1 and t1 0 states is approximately equal to the top-quark mass (mt1 - mx1 0 ≈ mt), which is not probed by searches for direct t1 squark pair production. The analysis excludes top squarks with masses mt2 < 575GeV and mt1 < 400GeVat a 95% confidence level., Physics Letters B, 736, ISSN:0370-2693, ISSN:0031-9163, ISSN:1873-2445

The ratio of the top-quark branching fractions R = B(t --> Wb)/B(t --> Wq), where the denominator includes the sum over all down-type quarks (q = b, s, d), is measured in the t (t) over bar dilepton final state with proton-proton collision data at root s = 8 TeV from an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb(-1), collected with the CMS detector. In order to quantify the purity of the signal sample, the cross section is measured by fitting the observed jet multiplicity, thereby constraining the signal and background contributions. By counting the number of b jets per event, an unconstrained value of R = 1.014 +/- 0.003 (stat.) +/- 0.032 (syst.) is measured, in a good agreement with current precision measurements in electroweak and flavour sectors. A lower limit R > 0.955 at the 95% confidence level is obtained after requiring R 0.975 is set at 95% confidence level. The result is combined with a previous CMS measurement of the t-channel single-top-quark cross section to determine the top-quark total decay width, Gamma(t) = 1.36 +/- 0.02 (stat.)(-0.11)(+0.14) (syst.) High Energy Physics::Experiment - Abstract
The first search at the LHC for the extinction of QCD jet production is presented, using data collected with the CMS detector corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 10.7 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. The extinction model studied in this analysis is motivated by the search for signatures of strong gravity at the TeV scale (terascale gravity) and assumes the existence of string couplings in the strong-coupling limit. In this limit, the string model predicts the suppression of all high-transverse-momentum standard model processes, including jet production, beyond a certain energy scale. To test this prediction, the measured transverse-momentum spectrum is compared to the theoretical prediction of the standard model. No significant deficit of events is found at high transverse momentum. A 95% confidence level lower limit of 3.3 TeV is set on the extinction mass scale. ISSN:1550-7998 ISSN:0556-2821 ISSN:1550-2368

- Abstract
Measurements are reported of the WZ and ZZ production cross sections in proton-proton collisions at s√=8 TeV in final states where one Z boson decays to b-tagged jets. The other gauge boson, either W or Z, is detected through its leptonic decay (either W→eν, μν or Z→e+e−, μ+μ−, or νν¯¯¯). The results are based on data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 18.9 fb−1 collected with the CMS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The measured cross sections, σ(pp→WZ)=30.7±9.3(stat.)±7.1(syst.)±4.1(th.)±1.0(lum.)pb and σ(pp→ZZ)=6.5±1.7(stat.)±1.0(syst.)±0.9(th.)±0.2(lum.)pb, are consistent with next-to-leading order quantum chromodynamics calculations. A search for new resonances decaying to WW, ZZ, or WZ is presented. Final states are considered in which one of the vector bosons decays leptonically and the other hadronically. Results are based on data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb−1 recorded in proton-proton collisions at s√ = 8 TeV with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. Techniques aiming at identifying jet substructures are used to analyze signal events in which the hadronization products from the decay of highly boosted W or Z bosons are contained within a single reconstructed jet. Upper limits on the production of generic WW, ZZ, or WZ resonances are set as a function of the resonance mass and width. We increase the sensitivity of the analysis by statistically combining the results of this search with a complementary study of the all-hadronic final state. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set on the bulk graviton production cross section in the range from 700 to 10 fb for resonance masses between 600 and 2500 GeV, respectively. These limits on the bulk graviton model are the most stringent to date in the diboson final state. ISSN:1126-6708 ISSN:1029-8479

The production cross section for a W boson and two b jets is measured using proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV in a data sample collected with the CMS experiment at the LHC corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb-1. The W+bb- events are selected in the W→μν decay mode by requiring a muon with transverse momentum pT > 25 GeV and pseudorapidity |η| < 2.1, and exactly two b-tagged jets with pT > 25 GeV and |η| < 2.4. The measured W+bb- production cross section in the fiducial region, calculated at the level of final-state particles, is σ(pp→W+bb-)×B(W→μν)=0.50.05(stat.) 0.09(syst.)±0.06(theo.)±0.01(lum.) pb, in agreement with the standard model prediction. In addition, kinematic distributions of the W+bb- system are in agreement with the predictions of a simulation using MadGraph and pythia. ISSN:0370-2693 ISSN:0031-9163 ISSN:1873-2445

The central component of the CMS detector is the largest silicon tracker ever built. The precise alignment of this complex device is a formidable challenge, and only achievable with a significant extension of the technologies routinely used for tracking detectors in the past. This article describes the full-scale alignment procedure as it is used during LHC operations. Among the specific features of the method are the simultaneous determination of up to 200 000 alignment parameters with tracks, the measurement of individual sensor curvature parameters, the control of systematic misalignment effects, and the implementation of the whole procedure in a multi-processor environment for high execution speed. Overall, the achieved statistical accuracy on the module alignment is found to be significantly better than 10μm., Journal of Instrumentation, 9, ISSN:1748-0221

A search is performed for pair-produced spin-3/2 excited top quarks (t∗t¯∗), each decaying to a top quark and a gluon. The search uses data collected with the CMS detector from pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of s√ = 8 TeV, selecting events that have a single isolated muon or electron, an imbalance in transverse momentum, and at least six jets, of which one must be compatible with originating from the fragmentation of a b quark. The data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb−1, show no significant excess over standard model predictions, and provide a lower limit of 803 GeV at 95% confidence on the mass of the spin-3/2 t* quark in an extension of the Randall-Sundrum model, assuming a 100% branching fraction of its decay into a top quark and a gluon. This is the first search for a spin-3/2 excited top quark performed at the LHC. ISSN:1126-6708 ISSN:1029-8479

A measurement of the triple-differential cross section, d3σ/(dpγTdηγdηjet), in photon + jets final states using a data sample from proton-proton collisions at s√ = 7 TeV is presented. This sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.14 fb−1 collected by the CMS detector at the LHC. Photons and jets are reconstructed within a pseudorapidity range of |η| < 2.5, and are required to have transverse momenta in the range 40 < pjetT < 300 GeV and pjetT > 30 GeV, respectively. The measurements are compared to theoretical predictions from the sherpa leading-order QCD Monte Carlo event generator and the next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculation from jetphox. The predictions are found to be consistent with the data over most of the examined kinematic region. ISSN:1126-6708 ISSN:1029-8479

- Abstract
A study of color coherence effects in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7TeV is presented. The data used in the analysis were collected in 2010 with the CMS detector at the LHC and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb−1. Events are selected that contain at least three jets and where the two jets with the largest transverse momentum exhibit a back-to-back topology. The measured angular correlation between the second- and third-leading jet is shown to be sensitive to color coherence effects, and is compared to the predictions of Monte Carlo models with various implementations of color coherence. None of the models describe the data satisfactorily., The European Physical Journal C, 74 (6), ISSN:1434-6044, ISSN:1434-6052

The properties of a Higgs boson candidate are measured in the H→ZZ→4ℓ decay channel, with ℓ=e, μ, using data from pp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.1 fb−1 at the center-of-mass energy of √s=7 TeV and 19.7 fb−1 at √s=8 TeV, recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC. The new boson is observed as a narrow resonance with a local significance of 6.8 standard deviations, a measured mass of 125.6±0.4(stat)±0.2(syst) GeV, and a total width ≤3.4 GeV at the 95% confidence level. The production cross section of the new boson times its branching fraction to four leptons is measured to be 0.93+0.26−0.23(stat)+0.13−0.09(syst) times that predicted by the standard model. Its spin-parity properties are found to be consistent with the expectations for the standard-model Higgs boson. - Abstract
A measurement of total and fiducial inclusive W and Z boson production cross sections in pp collisions at √s=8 TeV is presented. Electron and muon final states are analyzed in a data sample collected with the CMS detector corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 18.2±0.5 pb−1. The measured total inclusive cross sections times branching fractions are σ(pp→WX)×B(W→ℓν)=12.21±0.03(stat)±0.24(syst)±0.32(lum) nb and σ(pp→ZX)×B(Z→ℓ+ℓ−)=1.15±0.01(stat)±0.02(syst)±0.03(lum) nb for the dilepton mass in the range of 60—120 GeV. The measured values agree with next-to-next-to-leading-order QCD cross section calculations. Ratios of cross sections are reported with a precision of 2%. - Abstract
A search for flavor-changing neutral currents in top-quark decays t → Zq is performed in events produced from the decay chain t¯t → Zq + Wb, where both vector bosons decay leptonically, producing a final state with three leptons (electrons or muons). A data set collected with the CMS detector at the LHC is used, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. No excess is seen in the observed number of events relative to the standard model prediction; thus, no evidence for flavor-changing neutral currents in top-quark decays is found. A combination with a previous search at 7 TeV excludes a t → Zq branching fraction greater than 0.05% at the 95% confidence level., Physical Review Letters, 112 (17), ISSN:0031-9007, ISSN:1079-7114

Results are presented from a search for the production of a heavy gauge boson W′ decaying into a top and a bottom quark, using a data set collected by the CMS experiment at s√ = 8 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb−1. Various models of W′-boson production are studied by allowing for an arbitrary combination of left- and right-handed couplings. The analysis is based on the detection of events with a lepton (e, μ), jets, and missing transverse energy in the final state. No evidence for W′-boson production is found and 95% confidence level upper limits on the production cross section times branching fraction are obtained. For W′ bosons with purely right-handed couplings, and for those with left-handed couplings assuming no interference effects, the observed 95% confidence level limit is M(W′) > 2.05 TeV. For W′ bosons with purely left-handed couplings, including interference effects, the observed 95% confidence level limit is M(W′) > 1.84 TeV. The results presented in this paper are the most stringent limits published to date. ISSN:1126-6708 ISSN:1029-8479

A search for baryon number violation (BNV) in top-quark decays is performed using pp collisions produced by the LHC at s=8 TeV. The top-quark decay considered in this search results in one light lepton (muon or electron), two jets, but no neutrino in the final state. Data used for the analysis were collected by the CMS detector and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb-1. The event selection is optimized for top quarks produced in pairs, with one undergoing the BNV decay and the other the standard model hadronic decay to three jets. No significant excess of events over the expected yield from standard model processes is observed. The upper limits at 95% confidence level on the branching fraction of the BNV top-quark decay are calculated to be 0.0016 and 0.0017 for the muon and the electron channels, respectively. Assuming lepton universality, an upper limit of 0.0015 results from the combination of the two channels. These limits are the first that have been obtained on a BNV process involving the top quark. The tt¯ charge asymmetry in proton-proton collisions at s√ = 7 TeV is measured using the dilepton decay channel (ee, eμ, or μμ). The data correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb−1, collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The tt and lepton charge asymmetries, defined as the differences in absolute values of the rapidities between the reconstructed top quarks and antiquarks and of the pseudorapidities between the positive and negative leptons, respectively, are measured to be A C = −0.010 ± 0.017 (stat.) ± 0.008 (syst.) and AlepC = 0.009 ± 0.010 (stat.) ± 0.006 (syst.). The lepton charge asymmetry is also measured as a function of the invariant mass, rapidity, and transverse momentum of the tt¯ system. All measurements are consistent with the expectations of the standard model., Journal of High Energy Physics, 2014, ISSN:1126-6708, ISSN:1029-8479

Azimuthal dihadron correlations of charged particles have been measured in PbPb collisions at sNN−−−−√ = 2.76TeV by the CMS collaboration, using data from the 2011 LHC heavy-ion run. The data set includes a sample of ultra-central (0-0.2% centrality) PbPb events collected using a trigger based on total transverse energy in the hadron forward calorimeters and the total multiplicity of pixel clusters in the silicon pixel tracker. A total of about 1.8 million ultra-central events were recorded, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 120 μb − 1. The observed correlations in ultra-central PbPb events are expected to be particularly sensitive to initial-state fluctuations. The single-particle anisotropy Fourier harmonics, from v 2 to v 6, are extracted as a function of particle transverse momentum. At higher transverse momentum, the v 2 harmonic becomes significantly smaller than the higher-order v n (n ≥ 3). The p T-averaged v 2 and v 3 are found to be equal within 2%, while higher-order v n decrease as n increases. The breakdown of factorization of dihadron correlations into single-particle azimuthal anisotropies is observed. This effect is found to be most prominent in the ultra-central PbPb collisions, where the initial-state fluctuations play a dominant role. A comparison of the factorization data to hydrodynamic predictions with event-by-event fluctuating initial conditions is also presented. ISSN:1126-6708 ISSN:1029-8479

A search is performed for a massive new vector-like quark T, with charge 2/3, that is pair produced together with its antiparticle in proton–proton collisions. The data were collected by the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider in 2012 at s=8TeV and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.5fb−1. The T quark is assumed to decay into three different final states, bW, tZ, and tH. The search is carried out using events with at least one isolated lepton. No deviations from standard model expectations are observed, and lower limits are set on the T quark mass at 95% confidence level. The lower limit lies between 687 and 782 GeV for all possible values of the branching fractions into the three different final states assuming strong production. These limits are the most stringent constraints to date on the existence of such a quark. ISSN:0370-2693 ISSN:0031-9163 ISSN:1873-2445

Measurements are presented of the associated production of a W boson and a charm-quark jet (W + c) in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. The analysis is conducted with a data sample corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 5 fb−1, collected by the CMS detector at the LHC. W boson candidates are identified by their decay into a charged lepton (muon or electron) and a neutrino. The W + c measurements are performed for charm-quark jets in the kinematic region pjetT > 25 GeV, |ηjet| < 2.5, for two different thresholds for the transverse momentum of the lepton from the W-boson decay, and in the pseudorapidity range |ηℓ| < 2.1. Hadronic and inclusive semileptonic decays of charm hadrons are used to measure the following total cross sections: σ(pp → W + c + X) × B(W → ℓν) = 107.7 ± 3.3 (stat.) ± 6.9 (syst.) pb (pℓT > 25 GeV) and σ(pp → W + c + X)×B(W → ℓν) = 84.1 ± 2.0 (stat.) ± 4.9 (syst.) pb (pℓT > 35 GeV), and the cross section ratios σ(pp → W+ + c¯¯ + X)/σ(pp → W− + c + X) = 0.954 ± 0.025 (stat.) ± 0.004 (syst.) (pℓT > 25 GeV) and σ(pp → W+ + c¯¯ + X)/σ(pp → W− + c + X) = 0.938 ± 0.019 (stat.) ± 0.006 (syst.) (pℓT > 35 GeV). Cross sections and cross section ratios are also measured differentially with respect to the absolute value of the pseudorapidity of the lepton from the W-boson decay. These are the first measurements from the LHC directly sensitive to the strange quark and antiquark content of the proton. Results are compared with theoretical predictions and are consistent with the predictions based on global fits of parton distribution functions. ISSN:1126-6708 ISSN:1029-8479

The top-antitop quark (tt¯) production cross section is measured in proton-proton collisions at s√ = 8 TeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.3 fb−1. The measurement is performed by analysing events with a pair of electrons or muons, or one electron and one muon, and at least two jets, one of which is identified as originating from hadronisation of a bottom quark. The measured cross section is 239 ± 2 (stat.) ± 11 (syst.) ± 6 (lum.) pb, for an assumed top-quark mass of 172.5 GeV, in agreement with the prediction of the standard model.

The jet fragmentation function of inclusive jets with transverse momentum pT above 100GeV/c in PbPb collisions has been measured using reconstructed charged particles with pT above 1GeV/c in a cone of radius 0.3 around the jet axis. A data sample of PbPb collisions collected in 2011 at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of √sNN=2.76TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 150μb−1 is used. The results for PbPb collisions as a function of collision centrality and jet transverse momentum are compared to reference distributions based on pp data collected at the same center-of-mass energy in 2013, with an integrated luminosity of 5.3pb−1. A centrality-dependent modification of the fragmentation function is found. For the most central collisions, a significant enhancement is observed in the PbPb/pp fragmentation function ratio for charged particles with pT less than 3GeV/c. This enhancement is observed for all jet pT bins studied., Physical Review C, 90 (2), ISSN:0556-2813, ISSN:1089-490X

The mass of the top quark is measured using a sample of tt¯ candidate events with at least six jets in the final state. The sample is selected from data collected with the CMS detector in pp collisions at s√=7 TeV in 2011 and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3.54 fb−1. The mass is reconstructed for each event employing a kinematic fit of the jets to a tt¯ hypothesis. The top-quark mass is measured to be 173.49±0.69(stat.)±1.21(syst.) GeV. - Abstract
A search for physics beyond the standard model in events with at least three leptons is presented. The data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions with center-of-mass energy √s = 8 TeV, was collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC during 2012. The data are divided into exclusive categories based on the number of leptons and their flavor, the presence or absence of an opposite-sign, same-flavor lepton pair (OSSF), the invariant mass of the OSSF pair, the presence or absence of a tagged bottom-quark jet, the number of identified hadronically decaying τ leptons, and the magnitude of the missing transverse energy and of the scalar sum of jet transverse momenta. The numbers of observed events are found to be consistent with the expected numbers from standard model processes, and limits are placed on new-physics scenarios that yield multilepton final states. In particular, scenarios that predict Higgs boson production in the context of supersymmetric decay chains are examined. We also place a 95% confidence level upper limit of 1.3% on the branching fraction for the decay of a top quark to a charm quark and a Higgs boson (t → cH), which translates to a bound on the left- and right-handed top-charm flavor-violating Higgs Yukawa couplings, λHtc and λHct, respectively, of √|λHtc|2+|λHct|2 < 0.21., Physical Review D, 90 (3), ISSN:1550-7998, ISSN:0556-2821, ISSN:1550-2368

The first measurement of jet shapes, defined as the fractional transverse momentum radial distribution, for inclusive jets produced in heavy-ion collisions is presented. Data samples of PbPb and pp collisions, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 150 mu b(-1) and 5.3 pb(-1) respectively, were collected at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. The jets are reconstructed with the anti-k(T) algorithm with a distance parameter R = 0.3, and the jet shapes are measured for charged particles with transverse momentum P-T > 1 GeV/c. The jet shapes measured in PbPb collisions in different collision centralities are compared to reference distributions based on the pp data. A centrality-dependent modification of the jet shapes is observed in the more central PbPb collisions, indicating a redistribution of the energy inside the jet cone. This measurement provides information about the parton shower mechanism in the hot and dense medium produced in heavy-ion collisions., Physics Letters B, 730, ISSN:0370-2693, ISSN:0031-9163, ISSN:1873-2445

A peaking structure in the J/ψφ mass spectrum near threshold is observed in B ±→J/ψφK± decays, produced in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The data sample, selected on the basis of the dimuon decay mode of the J/ψ, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.2 fb-1. Fitting the structure to an S-wave relativistic Breit-Wigner lineshape above a three-body phase-space nonresonant component gives a signal statistical significance exceeding five standard deviations. The fitted mass and width values are m = 4148.0 ± 2.4 (stat.) ± 6.3 (syst.)MeV and Γ=28-11 +15(stat.)±19(syst.)MeV, respectively. Evidence for an additional peaking structure at higher J/ψφ mass is also reported., Physics Letters B, 734, ISSN:0370-2693, ISSN:0031-9163, ISSN:1873-2445
