University senior management teams are reacting to an evolving trend of identifying and eliminating institutional racism in universities along the North Atlantic Rim. They are tasked with designing and constructing processes for the implementation of remedial antiracist policies, in conjunction with minority employee interest groups, in a putatively inclusive but also hegemonically White environment. Evidence is presented from an international academic survey of non-managerial university minorities, comprising mainly academics and conducted in 2021. This reveals a trend whereby Sara Ahmed's model of performativity and non-performativity in antiracism is shown to be contingent upon the reputational interests of university senior management, as predicted in Derrick Bell's convergence theory. This article presents a new synthesized model to explain and predict the trend of non-performativity in university antiracist practices, and then identifies further strands of research that might focus on closing the convergence gap to make antiracism leadership more substantive. In June 2017, a quartet of states led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE launched an unprecedented, wide-ranging, and biting blockade of Qatar. After the initial shock, which included emptying supermarket shelves and even fears of escalation, the Qatari state swiftly and successfully secured suppliers for goods principally from Turkey and Iran. The quartet long believed that Qatar's foreign policies heedlessly undermined the stability and security of their states. A combination of such long-term simmering issues and immediate factors like the role of a pliant President Trump meant that these states rolled the dice. At best, they hoped that Qatar would capitulate under such tremendous pressure. At worst, they believed Qatar's activities would be circumscribed, and it would be slowly financially bled. While Gulf politics can pivot quickly, there are no signs that this crisis will abate. Without serious pressure, probably from a US President, it will likely be measured in years not months. Null alleles of all three genes (α, β and γ) coding for the major serum protein of Drosophila larvae, larval serum protein 1, have been characterized at the protein level and by analysis of their RNA and DNA. Each allele completely lacks one polypeptide chain. β shows an unaltered gene but reduced levels of RNA, α shows restriction-fragment-length polymorphism and shows low levels of transcript, while γ′ is a deletion. Immunological data, amino acid composition, and coordinate control during development suggest that the α, β and γ subunits of the major protein of Drosophila larval serum (LSP-1) are coded for by genes which evolved by replications of an ancestral gene followed by mutation. In order to test this hypothesis, and to study the relationship of these genes with that coding for the second major larval serum protein (LSP-2), we compared the one and two-dimensional peptide maps of all four larval serum protein subunits. One-dimensional maps generated by three different proteases showed many similarities among these proteins. Two-dimensional peptide mapping of the methionine-containing tryptic peptides showed that half of these peptides are common to all four larval serum protein subunits, and that about two-thirds are common to the three LSP-1 subunits. These observations show that the LSP-1 subunits are more closely related to each other than any is to LSP-2, and supported the initial suggestion that the proteins are homologous. Because the genes for the LSP-1 subunits are each located on a different chromosome, the LSP-I subunits are a suitable system for investigating the evolution and dispersal of related genes, and trans control in eukaryotes. The messenger RNAs for the four subunits of larval serum proteins (LSPs) 1 and 2 were purified from third instar fat body total RNA by fractionating oligo(dT)-selected RNAs on the basis of size. Translations of RNA fractions in vitro showed that the LSP mRNAs were free of other fat body messenger activities, but they could not be complete]y resolved from each other. The molecular weights of the LSP mRNAs, estimated from their electrophoretic mobilities in 50% formamide/1.4% agarose gels, ranged from 1.0 × 106 to 1.35 × 106. Larval serum protein 1 is the major haemolymph protein just before puparium formation in Drosophila melanogaster. It has been purified and characterised as a family of hexamers (molecular weight 450 000-480 000) of three immunologically related polypeptides (molecular weight 75 00081 000).
