When grapes are exposed to wildfire smoke, certain smoke-related volatile phenols (VPs) can be absorbed into the fruit, where they can be then converted into volatile-phenol (VP) glycosides through glycosylation. These volatile-phenol glycosides can be particularly problematic from a winemaking standpoint as they can be hydrolyzed, releasing volatile phenols, which can contribute to smoke-related off-flavors. Current methods for quantitating these volatile-phenol glycosides present several challenges, including the requirement of expensive capital equipment, limited accuracy due to the molecular complexity of the glycosides, and the utilization of harsh reagents. To address these challenges, we proposed an enzymatic hydrolysis method enabled by a tailored enzyme cocktail of novel glycosidases discovered through genome mining, and the generated VPs from VP glycosides can be quantitated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The enzyme cocktails displayed high activities and a broad substrate scope when using commercially available VP glycosides as the substrates for testing. When evaluated in an industrially relevant matrix of Cabernet Sauvignon wine and grapes, this enzymatic cocktail consistently achieved a comparable efficacy of acid hydrolysis. The proposed method offers a simple, safe, and affordable option for smoke taint analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Olive oil is a widely recognized and appreciated food commodity, its quality and health benefits can be compromised when the oil goes through oxidative processes that may occur during production and storage. This study aimed to investigate the effects of the olive genotype on polar phenolic content after seven months of storage. METHODS: Oil produced from eight different olive cultivars (Leccino, Leccio del Corno, Moraiolo, Frantoio, Bianchera, Pendolino, Maurino, and Caninese) grown in southern Tuscany, Italy, were subjected to chemical analysis such as free fatty acids, peroxide value, K232 and K268, phenolics and UPLC-DAD at the beginning of the trial (Control) and seven months later (Stored). RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: Free fatty acids, peroxide values, K232 and K268, significantly increased, suggesting heightened hydrolysis and oxidation after storage. A cultivar effect was observed, with Leccino, Moraiolo, and Pendolino showing less susceptibility to oxidation (low differences between Control and Stored). In contrast, others (Bianchera and Caninese) are more affected (higher differences between Control and Stored). Phenolics analysis supports this observation, revealing that samples with higher resistance to oxidation exhibit elevated levels of hydroxytyrosol, tyrosol, vanillic acid, caffeic acid, p-coumaric acid, and ferulic acid. Principal Component Analysis highlights that Bianchera and Caninese cultivars correlate with rutin, tyrosol, and pinoresinol. As this research delves into the intricate relationship between genotype diversity, phenolic composition, and oxidative stability, a nuanced understanding emerges, shedding light on how different cultivars may present varying compositions and concentrations of phenols, ultimately influencing the oils resistance to the oxidation that occurred during storage.

Cardiometabolic disorders (CMD) are a growing public health problem across the world. Among the known cardiometabolic risk factors are compounds that induce endocrine and metabolic dysfunctions, such as endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs). To date, how EDCs influence molecular programs and cardiometabolic risks has yet to be fully elucidated, especially considering the complexity contributed by species-, chemical-, and dose-specific effects. Moreover, different experimental and analytical methodologies employed by different studies pose challenges when comparing findings across studies. To explore the molecular mechanisms of EDCs in a systematic manner, we established a data-driven computational approach to meta-analyze 30 human, mouse, and rat liver transcriptomic datasets for 4 EDCs, namely bisphenol A (BPA), bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), tributyltin (TBT), and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). Our computational pipeline uniformly re-analyzed pre-processed quality-controlled microarray data and raw RNAseq data, derived differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and biological pathways, modeled gene regulatory networks and regulators, and determined CMD associations based on gene overlap analysis. Our approach revealed that DEHP and PFOA shared stable transcriptomic signatures that are enriched for genes associated with CMDs, suggesting similar mechanisms of action such as perturbations of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) signaling and liver gene network regulators VNN1 and ACOT2. In contrast, TBT exhibited highly divergent gene signatures, pathways, network regulators, and disease associations from the other EDCs. In addition, we found that the rat, mouse, and human BPA studies showed highly variable transcriptomic patterns, providing molecular support for the variability in BPA responses. Our work offers insights into the commonality and differences in the molecular mechanisms of various EDCs and establishes a streamlined data-driven workflow to compare molecular mechanisms of environmental substances to elucidate the underlying connections between chemical exposure and disease risks.

BackgroundSynthetic chemicals are increasingly being recognized for potential independent contributions to preterm birth (PTB) and low birth weight (LBW). Bisphenols, parabens, and triclosan are consumer product chemicals that act via similar mechanisms including estrogen, androgen, and thyroid disruption and oxidative stress. Multiple cohort studies have endeavored to examine effects on birth outcomes, and systematic reviews have been limited due to measurement of 1-2 spot samples during pregnancy and limited diversity of populations.ObjectiveTo study the effects of prenatal phenols and parabens on birth size and gestational age (GA) in 3,619 mother-infant pairs from 11 cohorts in the NIH Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes program.ResultsWhile many associations were modest and statistically imprecise, a 1-unit increase in log10 pregnancy averaged concentration of benzophenone-3 and methylparaben were associated with decreases in birthweight, birthweight adjusted for gestational age and SGA. Increases in the odds of being SGA were 29% (95% CI: 5%, 58%) and 32% (95% CI: 3%, 70%), respectively. Bisphenol S in third trimester was also associated with SGA (OR 1.52, 95% CI 1.08, 2.13). Associations of benzophenone-3 and methylparaben with PTB and LBW were null. In addition, a 1-unit increase in log10 pregnancy averaged concentration of 2,4-dichlorophenol was associated with 43% lower (95% CI: -67%, -2%) odds of low birthweight; the direction of effect was the same for the highly correlated 2,5-dichlorophenol, but with a smaller magnitude (-29%, 95% CI: -53%, 8%).DiscussionIn a large and diverse sample generally representative of the United States, benzophenone-3 and methylparaben were associated with lower birthweight as well as birthweight adjusted for gestational age and higher odds of SGA, while 2,4-dichlorophenol. These associations with smaller size at birth are concerning in light of the known consequences of intrauterine growth restriction for multiple important health outcomes emerging later in life.

BackgroundA growing body of literature investigated childhood exposure to environmental chemicals in association with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms, but limited studies considered urinary mixtures of multiple chemical classes. This study examined associations of concurrent exposure to non-persistent chemicals with ADHD symptoms in children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), developmental delay (DD), and typical development (TD).MethodsA total of 549 children aged 2-5 years from the Childhood Autism Risks from Genetics and Environment (CHARGE) case-control study were administered the Aberrant Behavior Checklist (ABC). This study focused on the ADHD/noncompliance subscale and its two subdomains (hyperactivity/impulsivity, inattention). Sixty-two chemicals from four classes (phenols/parabens, phthalates, organophosphate pesticides, trace elements) were quantified in child urine samples, and 43 chemicals detected in > 70% samples were used to investigate their associations with ADHD symptoms. Negative binomial regression was used for single-chemical analysis, and weighted quantile sum regression with repeated holdout validation was applied for mixture analysis for each chemical class and all chemicals. The mixture analyses were further stratified by diagnostic group.ResultsA phthalate metabolite mixture was associated with higher ADHD/noncompliance scores (median count ratio [CR] = 1.10; 2.5th, 97.5th percentile: 1.00, 1.21), especially hyperactivity/impulsivity (median CR = 1.09; 2.5th, 97.5th percentile: 1.00, 1.25). The possible contributors to these mixture effects were di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) metabolites and mono-2-heptyl phthalate (MHPP). These associations were likely driven by children with ASD as these were observed among children with ASD, but not among TD or those with DD. Additionally, among children with ASD, a mixture of all chemicals was associated with ADHD/noncompliance and hyperactivity/impulsivity, and possible contributors were 3,4-dihydroxy benzoic acid, DEHP metabolites, MHPP, mono-n-butyl phthalate, and cadmium.ConclusionsEarly childhood exposure to a phthalate mixture was associated with ADHD symptoms, particularly among children with ASD. While the diverse diagnostic profiles limited generalizability, our findings suggest a potential link between phthalate exposure and the comorbidity of ASD and ADHD.

The rate constants for the reaction of hydroperoxyl (or perhydroxyl) radical HOO˙ with fifteen phenols and ascorbyl palmitate were measured in acetonitrile at 37 °C by evaluating the effect that the antioxidants had on the rate of autoxidation of γ-terpinene. The HOO˙ radical represents an important reactive species that can be formed by protonation of superoxide anions (O2˙−) or by fragmentation of alkylperoxyl radicals (ROO˙) formed during the autoxidation of pro-aromatic derivatives like γ-terpinene. The phenols investigated in this study include natural compounds like phenolic acids (protocatechuic, caffeic and dihydrocaffeic acids), flavonoids (3-hydroxyflavone, pinobanksin, galangin, catechin, luteolin, quercetin, 6-methoxyluteolin), 4-methylcatechol and antioxidant additives ascorbyl palmitate and the a-tocopherol analogue 2,2,5,7,8-pentamethyl-6-chromanol. The rate constants for the reaction of HOO˙ with the above compounds (kinh) spanned from 1 × 103 M−1 s−1 for the unsubstituted phenol, to 7 × 104 and 9 × 104 M−1 s−1 for 4-methylcatechol and ascorbyl palmitate, respectively. As in a typical Evans–Polanyi plot, the log(kinh) was found to be inversely proportional to the bond dissociation enthalpy of the reactive OH. The comparison of the results with the data reported in the literature shows an unusual kinetic solvent effect that enlightens the unique behavior of HOO˙ and provides a rationale for the superior radical trapping ability of catechols and ascorbyl palmitate. Hydroesterification of alkynes is a crucial synthetic transformation, enabling the formation of esters directly with high atom economy. Recent advancements have centered on improving the reaction's selectivity, efficiency, and environmental sustainability, particularly through the innovation of ligands and catalysts, making the process more practical for industrial applications. Herein, we report a highly selective and efficient hydroesterification of alkynes using a novel recyclable ligand, accommodating a wide range of alkyne substrates as well as various alcohols and phenols. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions, affording the desired esters in high yields with excellent regioselectivities. A notable feature of this method is the recyclability of the ligand, which can be recovered and reused multiple times without significant loss of activity or selectivity. The present study aimed to enhance salicin and direct regeneration in willow (Salix safsaf Forssk) using the sodium nitroprusside (SNP) regulation of nitric oxide (NO) and vinasse for its nutrition effect in culture medium. Internodes of Salix safsaf were cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with benzyl adenine (BA) (0.25 mg L−1) and different concentrations of SNP (0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 mg L−1) or vinasse (0, 5, 10, and 20%) to examine shoot regeneration, antioxidant defense enzyme activity, total phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and salicine contents. The reported data revealed that application of SNP at 15 mg L−1 and vinasse at 10% induced a significant effect in vitro Salix safsaf shoot regeneration. To confirm that, nitric oxide is required for auxin-mediated activation of cell division in a dose-dependent manner. A concentration of 15 mg L−1 SNP promotes regeneration and salicin accumulation (3162.16 mg/100 g) during signaling action. On the other hand, the cross talk effect of nitric oxide and vinasse combination in Salix safsaf significantly induced a synergistic effect on direct propagation more than vinasse alone. SNP significantly stimulates salicylate accumulation in a dose-dependent manner, but the data on the association of vinasse and SNP on salicylate up-regulation showed a significant reduction in salicin accumulation when SNP was combined with 10% vinasse, which directly affected the signaling action of SNP as secondary product stimulators. Vinasse's phenolic compounds affect directly on the reduction activity of SNP to suppress its signaling action, or indirectly by inhibiting the sequence cascade of the SNP signaling transduction process to decrease the accumulation of salicin contents. Data confirmed that vinasse and SNP stimulated the antioxidant enzymes activity throw quenching the stimulated reactive oxygen species that produced via SNP. Results show that modified media with SNP administration at 15 mg L−1 and the combination of vinasse at 10% and SNP at 15 mg L−1 are recommended for modifying tissue culture media for induced direct regeneration and salicin accumulation in tissue culture applications, which will be very useful for commercial salicin overproduction as a biological active ingredient in willows. Background: Exposure to phenols has been linked in animal models and human populations to cardiac function alterations and cardiovascular diseases, although their effects on cardiac electrical properties in humans remains to be established. This study aimed to identify changes in electrocardiographic (ECG) parameters associated with environmental phenol exposure in adults of a midwestern large cohort known as the Fernald Community Cohort (FCC). Methods: During the day of the first comprehensive medical examination, urine samples were obtained, and electrocardiograms were recorded. Cross-sectional linear regression analyses were performed. Results: Bisphenol A (BPA) and bisphenol F (BPF) were both associated with a longer PR interval, an indication of delayed atrial-to-ventricle conduction, in females (p < 0.05) but not males. BPA combined with BPF was associated with an increase QRS duration, an indication of delayed ventricular activation, in females (P < 0.05) but not males. Higher triclocarban (TCC) level was associated with longer QTc interval, an indication of delayed ventricular repolarization, in males (P < 0.01) but not females. Body mass index (BMI) was associated with a significant increase in PR and QTc intervals and ventricular rate in females and in ventricular rate in males. In females, the combined effect of being in the top tertile for both BPA urinary concentration and BMI was an estimate of a 10% increase in PR interval. No associations were found with the other phenols. Conclusion: Higher exposure to some phenols was associated with alterations of cardiac electrical properties in a sex specific manner in the Fernald cohort. Flavonoids are known as valuable natural compounds and Chamomile is a rich source of flavonoids. The extraction efficiency of flavonoids is affected by various conditions. So it appears necessary to develop a practical method for the extraction of these compounds. In this study, we attempted to extract the phenolic compounds from chamomile using the surface capacity of titanium oxide nanoparticles (TiO2). UV and FT‐IR spectroscopy was used to determine the accuracy of the binding. The HPLC‐PDA technique was used for the quantification of phenolic compounds and the recovery test result was 84 %. Determining the antioxidant, phenolic, and flavonoid contents suggested that the developed method is successful for the extraction of phenolic compounds. The influential extraction parameters after optimization consisted of the pH of 7, extraction temperature of 25 °C, extraction time of 15 min, and TiO2 nanoparticle concentration of 4 mM. The in vitro cultures of Vachellia farnesiana (L) Wight & Arn. have demonstrated cytotoxic activity through callus extract on the HeLa cell line. Explants excised from in vitro-grown seedlings from seeds of two different locations were inoculated on Murashige and Skoog (MS) culture media containing various concentrations of N-6 benzyladenine (BA) or kinetin with 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D). Optimal efficiency in friable callus induction (100%) was achieved in leaf explants cultured on MS media containing 2.32 µM BA + 13.57 µM 2,4-D. Plant tissues (callus and leaf) were extracted and subjected to quantitative phytochemical analysis, revealing the highest total alkaloid and phenolic content in leaf extracts from Queretaro adult specimens (339.5 ± 20.9 mg atropine equivalents (AE) per g dry extract (DE) and 158.4 ± 12.5 mg gallic acid equivalents (GAE) per g DE, respectively). In contrast, callus cultures exhibited significantly higher total triterpene content (356–381 mg ursolic acid equivalents (UAE) per g DE) compared to leaf extracts (208–243 mg UAE/g DE). Both leaf and callus extracts displayed cytotoxic activity against the HeLa cell line, with a significantly lower half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) for leaf extracts (28–32 µg/mL) compared to callus cultures (43–66 µg/mL), suggesting that alkaloids were primarily responsible for the cytotoxic activity. Summary Plant polyphenols are the secondary metabolites of plants, with a wide variety of types and diverse structures. At present, many phenolic compounds and their derivatives have been isolated and identified from nature. Common plant polyphenolic compounds have a polyhydroxyl structure, most of which are found in the plants seen in daily life, and most of them have poor water solubility. Due to the existence of polyhydroxyl structure, most plant polyphenols have strong biological activities such as antioxidant, anti‐bacterial and anti‐inflammatory, anti‐cancer, regulation of blood glucose and blood lipid, and anti‐obesity, which are of great research value and broad application prospects. In addition, plant polyphenols have been widely used in food and have become a trendy research topic. Therefore, in this paper, the classifications of plant polyphenols, current status of their bioactivity research and their application in food were analysed, providing reference value for the research and utilisation of plant polyphenols. Many health problems including chronic diseases are closely associated with oxidative stress and inflammation. Tea has abundant phenolic compounds with various health benefits including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This review focuses on the present understanding of the impact of tea phenolic compounds on the expression of miRNAs, and elucidates the biochemical and molecular mechanisms underlying the transcriptional and post-transcriptional protective actions of tea phenolic compounds against oxidative stress- and/or inflammation-mediated diseases. Clinical studies showed that drinking tea or taking catechin supplement on a daily basis promoted the endogenous antioxidant defense system of the body while inhibiting inflammatory factors. The regulation of chronic diseases based on epigenetic mechanisms, and the epigenetic-based therapies involving different tea phenolic compounds, have been insufficiently studied. The molecular mechanisms and application strategies of miR-27 and miR-34 involved in oxidative stress response and miR-126 and miR-146 involved in inflammation process were preliminarily investigated. Some emerging evidence suggests that tea phenolic compounds may promote epigenetic changes, involving non-coding RNA regulation, DNA methylation, histone modification, ubiquitin and SUMO modifications. However, epigenetic mechanisms and epigenetic-based disease therapies involving phenolic compounds from different teas, and the potential cross-talks among the epigenetic events, remain understudied. Enantioselective transformation of ubiquitous C(sp3)−H bonds into three‐dimensional chiral scaffolds is of longstanding interest to synthetic chemists. Herein, an asymmetric paired electrolysis enables a highly efficient and sustainable approach to the enantioselective alkylation of sulfonylimines via C(sp3)−H functionalization. In this protocol, anodic oxidation for benzylic radical formation and Lewis acid‐catalyzed sulfonylimine reduction on the cathode were seamlessly cross‐coupled (up to 88 % yield). Enantioenriched chiral amines containing a tetrasubstituted carbon stereocenter are accessed with high enantioselectivity (up to 96 % ee). Mechanistic studies suggest that the amine generated in situ could serve as a base to deprotonate phenols and decrease the oxidation potential of the reaction, allowing phenols with lower potentials to be preferentially oxidized. Goji berry (Lycium barbarum L.) is a nutrient‐rich fruit and has received enormous interest for its health benefits. The beneficial effects of goji berry are linked to the absorption of bioactive compounds within the gastrointestinal digestion process and colon fermentation. Nonetheless, how certain bioactive compounds were released, and metabolism changed of the consumption of whole goji berries were still unclear. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate the digestion characteristics of key bioactive compounds in whole goji berries with an in vitro digestion model, and the effects of whole goji berries on the structure of gut microbiota were also investigated. Results showed that a significant release of carbohydrates during the digestion process, peaking within the first 15 min of the intestinal phase (421.4 ± 5.82 mg GE/g, dry weight, respectively), was observed, and the phenolic release reached the highest in the first 15 min of the gastric phase. Meanwhile, the bioaccessibilities of phenolic compounds and carbohydrates were determined to be 63.87% and 80.40%, respectively, after intestinal digestion. In addition, the undigested fractions of goji berries could be further fermented to produce short‐chain fatty acids, which decreased the colon pH value (from 7.38 to 6.71) as well as the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio. Moreover, the goji berries regulated the composition of gut microbiota by promoting beneficial bacteria such as Bacteroides, Parabacteroides, and Paraclostridium, whereas inhibiting the proliferation of harmful bacteria (e.g., Fusobacterium). Our results indicated that the goji berry exhibited significant bioactivity during the digestion and fermentation stage and might provide some new insights into the utilization of goji berries in healthy food processing. Summary This study explores using pitomba peel and seeds to obtain a natural extract with high antioxidant capacity, employing extraction techniques with eutectic solvents combined with agitation and temperature control. The analysis revealed that, for the extraction with pitomba peel residues, the average levels of phenolic compounds did not show significant differences except for the extraction with ethanol. In contrast, the extractions performed with pitomba seeds showed significant differences, with the combination of choline chloride with lactic acid and choline chloride with glycerol providing the highest phenolic compound values. For flavonoids, the highest amount was obtained with the extraction using L‐proline and levulinic acid for the pitomba peel and ethanol and choline chloride with levulinic acid for the pitomba seeds. The results of the DPPH and FRAP assays indicate that, for antioxidant activity, the highest DPPH value was achieved with the extraction of pitomba peel using choline chloride with glycerol. In contrast, for pitomba seeds, elevated values were found with choline chloride with glycerol and choline chloride with levulinic acid. In the FRAP assay, the averages between L‐proline with levulinic acid and choline chloride with glycerol were not significantly different, showing high values. For pitomba seeds, the averages between ethanol and choline chloride with glycerol were also not significantly different and showed the highest obtained values. The results demonstrate that the extracts obtained from pitomba residues are rich in valuable compounds for potential applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries. They highlight the significant levels of flavonoids extracted from pitomba peel and seeds and emphasise the effectiveness of deep eutectic solvents (DES), particularly choline chloride with glycerol, in the extraction process. Research has highlighted cascara's high antioxidant content, making it a functional and healthy drink choice. Sensory analysis has shown that cascara drinks exhibit dominant citric acid and black tea flavours with a strong sour aroma, appealing to consumers who enjoy coffee and tea. Furthermore, post‐harvest processing significantly influences the chemical composition of cascara beverages, with different processing methods resulting in varying levels of caffeine, total phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity. This innovation not only offers a refreshing drink but also shows the potential of cascara to be a valuable source of antioxidants with diverse flavour profiles and contributing to the global market. Five Australian seaweed species, Phyllosphora comosa, Ecklonia radiata, Durvillaea potatorum, Sargassum fallax, and Cystophora siliquosa, thrive along the country's shorelines. Some of these seaweeds have recognized health benefits but have not been fully investigated in terms of their bioactive components and mechanisms of action. We employed ultrasonication with 70% methanol to extract phenolic compounds from these seaweeds and investigated a range of bioactivities for these extracts, including anti‐inflammatory activity exploring urease inhibition, nitric oxide scavenging activity, protein denaturation inhibition, and protease inhibition. Anti‐diabetic activities were investigated using α‐amylase and α‐glucosidase inhibition assays. Anti‐proliferative and anti‐mitotic activities were evaluated using yeast‐cell and green‐gram models, respectively. Our findings showed that C. siliquosa inhibited nitric oxide, urease, and protease activities, with S. fallax, P. comosa, and E. radiata exhibiting substantial inhibition of protein denaturation. E. radiata displayed inhibitory effects on both α‐amylase and α‐glucosidase, whereas P. comosa targeted only the α‐glucosidase enzyme, indicating different mechanisms of anti‐diabetic activity. In these anti‐mitotic assays, C. siliquosa exhibited low cell viability and a significant anti‐proliferative effect, particularly within 24 h, while E. radiata demonstrated notable inhibition at 48 h. LC‐ESI‐QTOF‐MS/MS investigation identified 48 phenolic compounds, including 19 phenolic acids, 20 flavonoids, and 9 other polyphenols. The presence of these compounds in extracts correlated with observed biological activities. The visible light-promoted O-alkenylation of phenols and naphthols with terminal alkynes is achieved using 2,4,6-tris(4-fluorophenyl)pyrylium tetrafluoroborate (T(p-F)PPT) as a photocatalyst at room temperature without the need of any external ligand or additive. Apart from its excellent functional group tolerance, the protocol described herein represents an appealing alternative strategy to classical transition-metal catalysed hydroarylation reactions. Due to the growing safety and environmental concerns associated with biocides, phenolic-soy branched chain fatty acids (phenolic-soy BCFAs) are synthesized as new bio-based antimicrobial agents. Safety evaluation is essential before the wide adoption of these new antimicrobial products. This study was initiated to evaluate the safety of four phenolic-soy BCFAs (with phenol, thymol, carvacrol, or creosote branches). Methyl-branched iso-oleic acid, phenol, and creosote were included in the study as controls. In silico toxicity simulation tools predicted that the phenolic BCFAs had much higher toxicities to aquatic organisms than free phenolics did, while the opposite was predicted for rats. The developmental toxicity of four phenolic-soy BCFAs was assessed using an in vivo chicken embryonic assay. Results showed that creosote-soy BCFA had much lower mortality rates than creosote at the same dosages. Additionally, creosotesoy BCFA and methyl-branched iso-oleic acid induced minimal estrogenic activity in the concentration range of 10 nM - 1 μM. Carvacrol-soy BCFA treatments significantly increased (p < 0.05) oxidative stress levels with higher thiobarbituric acid reactive substances in the livers of chicken embryos. Juncus decipiens is a member of the Juncaceae family and has culinary, medicinal, and decorative properties. It is also used in traditional Chinese Medicines for many years that promotes diuresis for strangury and clears out heart fire. Bio‐oil formaldehyde resole (BFR) can be used as adhesive in plywood industry. However, the BFR has a lower thermal stability, and the reason is still unclear. Herein, the reactivities of four representative phenolic compounds in bio‐oil, including two ortho phenols (2‐methylphenol, 2‐methoxyphenol) and two para phenols (4‐methylphenol and 4‐methoxyphenol), as well as the thermal stabilities of the prepared resoles are investigated. The results show that the reactivity of an ortho phenol is higher than that of a para phenol. The resole prepared from a para phenol has a higher thermal stability than that of an ortho phenol. The resole of an ortho phenol decomposes even when heated at the low temperature of 100 °C. The resole of a methylphenol generally has a higher thermal stability than that of a methoxyphenol. A significant consequence of climate change is the rising incidence of wildfires. When wildfires occur close to wine grape (Vitis vinifera) production areas, smoke-derived volatile phenolic compounds can be taken up by the grape berries, negatively affecting the flavor and aroma profile of the resulting wine and compromising the production value of entire vineyards. Evidence for the permeation of smoke-associated compounds into grape berries has been provided through metabolomics; however, the basis for grapevines' response to smoke at the gene expression level has not been investigated in detail. To address this knowledge gap, we employed time-course RNA sequencing to observe gene expression-level changes in grape berries in response to smoke exposure. Significant increases in gene expression (and enrichment of gene ontologies) associated with detoxification of reactive compounds, maintenance of redox homeostasis, and cell wall fortification were observed in response to smoke. These findings suggest that the accumulation of volatile phenols from smoke exposure activates mechanisms that render smoke-derived compounds less reactive while simultaneously fortifying intracellular defense mechanisms. The results of this work lend a better understanding of the molecular basis for grapevines' response to smoke and provide insight into the origins of smoke-taint-associated flavor and aroma attributes in wine produced from smoke-exposed grapes. In this study, the fatty acid content, phenolic compounds, and antimicrobial activity of seed oils from Ege Özbaş (EO), Sarıbağlar 407 (S407) and Akhisar 98 (A98) tobacco plants grown in the Aegean region were investigated. The ozonation process altered fatty acid and phenolic compound compositions and affected antimicrobial activities against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria in the oils. Tobacco seed oils (TSOs) were extracted via cold pressing (CP) and Soxhlet extraction (SE). Fatty acids and phenolic compounds were analyzed using GC-FID and LC-MS/MS, respectively. Non-ozonated oils averaged 73% linoleic acid, 13% oleic acid, 9% palmitic acid, and 3% stearic acid, while ozonated oils contained 41% linoleic acid, 18% oleic acid, 22% palmitic acid, and 11% stearic acid. The presence of 33 phenolic compounds was investigated and 22 common phenolic compounds were detected in both ozonated and non-ozonated TSOs, including gallic acid, protocatechuic acid, chlorogenic acid, 3-hydroxybenzoic acid, (-)-epicatechin, 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid, caffeic acid, verbascoside, luteolin-7-glucoside, hesperidin, and rosmarinic acid. The increased antimicrobial activity of fatty acids and phenolic compounds following ozonation suggests the potential for developing creams to treat skin diseases and wounds caused by antibiotic-resistant pathogens, and to reduce the effects of aging skin wrinkles. Introduction: Salicylic acid (SA) is a phenolic compound widely found in plants. It plays a key role in exerting plant disease resistance. Panax vietnamensis Ha & Grushv., a valuable medicinal plant, contains high levels of phenolic compounds, which contribute significantly to the resilience of the plant against stress. However, the precise role of SA in regulating the synthesis of secondary metabolites in P.vietnamensis remains elusive. Methods: Two-year-old P. vietnamensis seedlings were treated with exogenous SA. We systematically assessed the changes in the physiological parameters of SA-treated P. vietnamensis leaves, employing transcriptome and metabolome analyses to elucidate the underlying mechanisms. Results: Our results revealed a significant improvement of the plant's antioxidant capacity at 6 h post-treatment. Furthermore, exogenous SA treatment promoted the biosynthesis of lignin and flavonoids such as rutin, coumarin, and cyanidin. In addition, it increased the levels of endogenous SA and jasmonic acid (JA), promoting the disease resistance of the plants. Thus, SA pretreatment enhanced the defense of P. vietnamensis against pathogens. Conclusions: Our study provided novel insights into the potential molecular mechanisms underlying SA-mediated biosynthesis of secondary metabolites. Potato black scurf caused by Rhizoctonia solani Kühn is widespread worldwide. The exploration and analysis of the infection mechanism of Rhizoctonia solani Kühn has important scientific significance to enhance the disease resistance of potato and other horticultural crops, and then break the restriction of fungal harm to agricultural production. The physiological and biochemical indexes and the expression levels of related genes were measured at 0, 1, 4, 8 and 16 days (T0, T1, T2, T3, T4) after inoculation with pathogenic bacteria. The results showed that the contents of L-phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL), peroxidase (POD), lignin, total phenols (TP), and flavonoids increased significantly in potato after infection by Rhizoctonia solani Kühn, with the contents of PAL and POD reaching a peak at 8 d and then decreasing, and the contents of lignin and total phenols changing most significantly, reaching the highest levels at day 8 (T3) and day 16 (T4), respectively. During the infestation, the content of eight phenolic compounds increased, and the genes responsible for the lignin synthesis pathway were upregulated. However, in the later stage of infestation, the expression of two genes (PAL PG0031457 and PG2021549, HCT PG0014959, and COMT PG0011266) was down-regulated. In the correlation analysis, gene expression levels of all the genes, except POD (PG0005062), CCoAOMT (PG0018688), and COMT (PG0011266), were found to be positively correlated with the contents of lignin, total phenols, flavonoids, PAL, POD, and eight phenolic substances. Background: In early 2020, COVID-19 pandemic has mobilized researchers in finding new remedies including repurposing of medicinal plant products focusing on direct-acting antiviral and host-directed therapies. In this study, we performed an in vitro investigation on the standardized Marantodes pumilum extract (SKF7®) focusing on anti-SARS-CoV-2 and anti-inflammatory activities. Methods: Anti-SARS-CoV-2 potential of the SKF7® was evaluated in SARS-CoV-2-infected Vero E6 cells and SARS-CoV-2-infected A549 cells by cytopathic effect-based assay and RT-qPCR, respectively. Target based assays were performed on the SKF7® against the S1-ACE2 interaction and 3CL protease activities. Anti-inflammatory activity of the SKF7® was evaluated by nitric oxide inhibitory and TLR2/TLR4 receptor blocker assays. Results: The SKF7® inhibited wild-type Wuhan (EC50 of 21.99 µg/mL) and omicron (EC50 of 16.29 µg/mL) SARS-CoV-2 infections in Vero-E6 cells. The SKF7® also inhibited the wild-type SARS-CoV-2 infection in A549 cells (EC50 value of 6.31 µg/mL). The SKF7® prominently inhibited 3CL protease activity. The SKF7® inhibited the LPS induced-TLR4 response with the EC50 of 16.19 µg/mL. Conclusions: In conclusion, our in vitro study highlighted anti-SARS-CoV-2 and anti-inflammatory potentials of the SKF7®. This study was carried out to investigate the effects of melatonin applications on postharvest quality changes of organic and conventionally grown plum fruit. Melatonin was applied in 0, 50, and 100 µmol L− 1 for organic and conventional samples. The fruits were stored at + 2.0 °C and 90% relative humidity for 28 days. During the storage period, the color, weight loss, firmness, Soluble solids concentration (SSC), titratable acidity (TA), pH, total antioxidant content, and total phenolics were evaluated at 7-day intervals. While no effect of melatonin applications on weight loss of organically grown plums was observed, it was determined that weight loss decreased as the dose of melatonin increased in conventionally grown plums. The lowest weight loss during storage was determined in conventionally grown plums treated with 100 µmolL− 1 melatonin. It was observed that the firmness values decreased as the storage period increased in both cultivation methods. The firmness decreased as the dose of melatonin application increased in organically grown plums, while the firmness increased as the dose of melatonin application increased in conventional cultivation. Melatonin application did not positively affect SSC, pH, and color values. However, it was determined that the mean TA values decreased as the dose of melatonin increased in both cultivation methods. When the total phenol content of organic and conventional plums was examined, it was determined that melatonin application decreased the number of phenolic compounds. The highest phenolic content was determined in the control samples. This study investigated the impact of two extraction methods, traditional hydrodistillation (TDH) and microwave-assisted hydrodistillation (MAH), on the essential oil yield and chemical profile of Lavandula angustifolia L., as well as the bioactive potential of the resulting wastewater. Essential oil composition was analyzed via GC–MS, revealing similar qualitative and quantitative profiles for both methods, with α-terpinolene and (–)borneol as major constituents. Wastewater analysis via LC–MS/MS and spectrophotometric assays demonstrated the presence of significant total phenolic content (3.29–1.78 mg GAE/g) and 32 individual phenolics (463.1 µg/kg for TDH; 479.33 µg/kg for MAH). These findings suggest that both essential oil and wastewater obtained by either method possess considerable bioactive potential, with the MAH method potentially offering advantages over TDH for essential oil extraction. Background: Bala is an important Ayurvedic drug used for the treatment of many diseases. Sida cordifolia (L.), Malvaceae family, is the genuine source drug of Bala as per Ayurvedic Pharmacopeia of India. The other species of Sida like Sida acuta, Sida rhombifolia, Sida alnifolia and Sida cordata are also used as adulterants or substitutes of Bala. The objective of the present study is to identify a scientifically validated substitute for Bala (Sida cordifolia) by detailed phytochemical evaluation of its allied species. Results: Preliminary analysis showed that all the selected species contain similar class of compounds like alkaloids, phenolics, flavonoids, etc. Quantitative estimation of major class of compounds such as total alkaloids, total phenolics and total flavonoids was done by spectrophotometric methods. Polyphenolic contents of selected species are almost comparable. In the case of alkaloids, variations have been observed among the species. Chemical profiles of selected species were compared by HPTLC and HPLC analysis. Major chemical constituents are found to be common for the selected species. HPLC profiles also showed similarity in their peak pattern. Conclusion: Based on the phytochemical studies, the species like S. alnifolia, S. acuta and S. rhombifolia contain almost similar types of phytochemicals. However, the chemical constituents of Sida cordata are found to be different from other allied species. The excessive production and use of plastics increase the release of micro‐ and nanoplastics (MNPs) into the environment. In recent years, research has focused on the occurrence of MNPs in air, soil and water. Nevertheless, there is still a lack of knowledge regarding MNPs in plants. To determine the load, translocation of MNPs and their effects on metabolism, pak choi, tomato, radish and asparagus have been exposed with fluorescent‐labelled poly(methyl methacrylate) or polystyrene (PS) MNPs. The entry of nanoparticles (NPs) of various sizes (100–500 nm) and surface modifications (unmodified, COOH or NH2) into plants has been demonstrated using confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM). The translocalization from root to shoot and the accumulation of NP in the intercellular spaces were regardless of the surface modification. In addition, metabolomics was used to evaluate metabolic changes induced by MNPs in pak choi. Changes in phenolic compounds, phytohormone derivatives and other classes of compounds known to be triggered by various environmental stresses have been identified. High-quality liquid biofuels can be produced from renewable lignin-derived phenolic compounds through an efficient hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) process in which the traditional catalysts usually include metal sites and acid sites that catalyze the hydrogenation and deoxygenation procedures respectively. This work presents a novel acid-free NixMoyN/C catalyst from the perspective of green chemistry providing a new pathway for HDO of lignin-derived phenolic compounds that involves hydrogenation deoxygenation and hydrogenolysis at the same time. A series of NixMoyN/C catalysts were prepared by varying the Ni :Mo molar ratio among which the Ni1Mo3N/C catalyst showed the best HDO performance. Guaiacol could be completely converted at 260 °C after 4 h with 95.8% cyclohexane selectivity. In addition a small amount of benzene could be obtained as a valuable fuel additive by-product by altering the conventional HDO reaction path. By shortening the reaction time benzene could be obtained as an intermediate product with a relative high selectivity. Based on the characterizations using XRD BET SEM TEM XPS H2-TPD and EPR, the results demonstrate that the multiple active components of the Ni1Mo3N/C catalyst allow it to efficiently catalyze the hydrogen activation and C--O bond cleavage even under acid-free conditions. The existence of the active phases of Ni Ni2Mo3N and β-Mo2C as well as the interaction between Ni and Mo metals together contributed toward efficient HDO performance. Not only for the various phenolic model compounds the feasibility of Ni1Mo3N/C catalysts for upgrading raw lignin oil was also demonstrated with the hydrocarbon content increasing from 5.7% to 88.4%. Notably arenes accounted for 18.2% of the hydrocarbon products which confirmed the occurrence of hydrogenolysis in the catalytic process. This work provides a novel route for the conversion of lignin-derived phenolic compounds to produce high-quality hydrocarbon liquid biofuels especially the direct production of arene components. ABSTRACT The leguminous chickpea is a good source of protein, but its yield potential is frequently constrained by biotic stresses, primarily Helicoverpa armigera, a major havoc for cultivation of the crop. To develop host plant resistance for minimizing the losses due to the pod borer, five kabuli parents with desired traits for pod borer tolerance were crossed in diallel mating design to produce 10 crosses which were analysed for traits related to pod borer and nutrition. Based on correlation studies, trichome density was found positively correlated with phenol content, but both the traits were negatively associated with number of damaged seeds. Therefore, the tolerant genotypes were identified on the basis of phenol content, trichome density, number of damaged seeds and field rating. Among parents ICC 12197 was found superior in terms of yield and borer tolerance features with an intermediate pest resistance susceptible rating in addition to higher Fe content. However, significant sca effects for higher phenol content and seed yield in ICC 11764 × ICC 14190 were recorded with reduced number of damaged seeds in addition to higher Fe and Zn content. It was observed that the specific combination involved good and poor combiners for each trait. The same cross also showed significant standard heterosis in desirable direction for phenol content, trichome density, number of damaged seeds and seed yield. Additionally, the ratio of σ2 GCA to σ2 SCA revealed nonadditive gene action in controlling the expression of phenol content, trichome density, number of damaged seeds and Fe and Zn content. Thus, breeder may focus efforts on desirable cross utilizing selection in further segregating generations for higher phenol content, trichome density and Fe and Zn content in addition to yield‐related traits while lesser number of damaged seeds per plant to concentrate for development of pod borer resilient high yielding kabuli genotypes to combat micronutrient deficiency. Unlike fossil fuels, biomass has oxygen amounts exceeding 10 wt%. Hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) is a crucial step in upgrading biomass to higher heating value liquid fuels. Oxygen removal has many challenges due to the complex chemistry and the high reactivity leading to irreversible catalyst deactivation. In this study, the focus is on the catalytic HDO of aromatic oxygen‐containing model compounds in biomass: phenols and cresols. In the current work, literature on catalytic HDO of phenols using molecular hydrogen is reviewed, with a focus on non‐nickel‐based mono‐ and bi‐metallic catalysts, as nickel‐based catalysts were reviewed elsewhere. In addition, the catalytic HDO of m‐cresol using molecular hydrogen is examined. This review also addresses the use of hydrogen donors for the HDO of phenols and cresols. The operating conditions, catalysts, products, and yields are summarized to find the catalyst with promising activity and high selectivity toward aromatics. A critical review of the reactions that successfully led to HDO is presented and research gaps related to the HDO of phenols and cresols are highlighted. An innovative Chardonnay wine flavored with black tea was prepared under optimal ultrasound conditions at 450.0 W for 22.6 min, and its physicochemical features, antioxidant power, total phenolic content, and volatile composition were systematically examined. A total of 165 phenolic and non-phenolic substances were characterized, including 27 newly formed phenolic substances and 10 non-phenolic substances that were not found in both black tea and Chardonnay wine. Catechin was found to be the phenolic compound with the largest amount detected, which was responsible for the potentiated antioxidant activities. The wine exhibited a profile of 44 volatile compounds, with 13 volatiles as odor-active compounds. Black tea infusion resulted in a decline in fruity, fermented and spicy aromas, but an increase in green and citrus odors, while ultrasound processing further intensified these odors. This study anticipated that ultrasound technology could hold promise for crafting flavored wines with heightened functionalities and appealing flavor profiles. Oleaster (Elaeagnus angustifolia L.) is a plant with high medicinal value and economic and nutritional importance, which has been used in traditional medicine for a long time. Oleaster contains phenolic compounds that have the ability to prevent a wide variety of diseases. In this study antioxidant capacity, total phenolic content, and total carbohydrate content were found as 108.70 ± 0.20 μg GAE/g of oleaster extract, 28.80 ± 0.01 μg TE/g of oleaster extract, and 15.40 ± 0.01 mg D‐glucose/g of oleaster extract, respectively. The oleaster extract was analyzed using the HPLC‐DAD system. The results showed rutin, caffeic acid, protocatechuic acid, and ferulic acid. The protective abilities of rutin, caffeic acid, protocatechuic acid, ferulic acid, and oleaster extract were tested against the oxidation of DNA. The mix of phenolic compounds (inhibited about 93.29% of the damage) and oleaster extract (inhibited about 94.14% of the damage) showed better protect DNA against oxidation than phenolic compounds. The results obtained from this study are guiding for new applications involving the physicochemical properties of oleaster extract with high antioxidant properties for food applications. Sapodilla (Manilkara zapota) is a climacteric fruit that ripens quickly and is highly perishable, making it difficult to commercialize. This study examined the effect of xanthan gum (Xan) enriched with oleic acid (ol) on chilling injury and postharvest quality of sapodilla fruit during 40 days of storage at 8 ± 1°C and 85%–90% relative humidity. The results showed that the treatments effectively controlled fruit browning, with the least browning observed in the Xan 0.1 and Xan 0.1 + Ol coatings. At the end of storage, all treatments except Xan 0.1 reduced lipid peroxidation and electrolyte leakage. Moreover, the fruit treated with Xan 0.1 + Ol also displayed the highest levels of phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and antioxidant activity. Additionally, the Xan 0.1 + Ol and Xan 0.1 treatments had the greatest activity of peroxidase (POD) and phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) enzymes. Xan 0.1 + Ol had the lowest activity of the polyphenol oxidase (PPO) enzyme. Overall, the application of the Xan 0.1 + Ol coating proved to be a beneficial edible treatment for minimizing cold-induced damage and improving the quality of stored sapodilla fruit. Summary Pine nuts (Araucaria angustifolia) are naturally distributed in South America and are increasingly being used as a food ingredient. This article aims to evaluate studies that have demonstrated the potential of pine nuts, their applicability in food products and biofilms using this raw material. Detailed search strategies were implemented in each of the selected databases. The results revealed that pine nuts are widely used as food ingredients due to their nutritional value and mild flavour, which allows for the development of different innovative product formulations. The analysis of the studies showed that pine nut seeds can be used as flour, pulp, shell, starch and extract and from these generate other new products. Pine nuts‐based products contain significant amounts of fibre, starch, antioxidants, phenolic compounds and proteins. As for the sensory aspects, the assessors showed good acceptance of the attributes. Incorporation into biofilms could also favour the future of sustainable and antioxidant packaging. Sea buckthorn has lipid‐lowering properties and is widely used in the development of functional foods. In this study, a probiotic (Lactobacillus plantarum, Lp10211) with cholesterol‐lowering potential and acid and bile salt resistant was screened for the fermentation of sea buckthorn juice. Changes in the active ingredients, such as sugars and phenolics, before and after fermentation, as well as their in vitro lipid‐lowering activities, were compared. The contents of reducing and total sugars decreased substantially after fermentation. Lp10211 primarily utilized fructose for growth and reproduction, with a utilization rate of 76.9%. The phenolic compound content of sea buckthorn juice increased by 37.06% after fermentation and protected the phenolic components from degradation (protocatechuic and p‐coumaric acids) and produced new polyphenol (shikimic acid). Enhanced inhibition of pancreatic lipase activity (95.42%) and cholesterol micellar solubility (59.15%) was evident. The antioxidant properties of the fermentation broth were improved. Notably, Lp10211 preserved the color and reversed browning in sea buckthorn juice. The collective findings indicate that fermentation of sea buckthorn juice by Lp10211 may enhance the functional components and lipid‐lowering activity of sea buckthorn, which may provide a new approach for the development of lipid‐lowering foods. A general Pd-catalyzed approach for the conversion of phenols into benzonitriles via aryl imidazolylsulfonates with a non-toxic cyanide source, potassium ferrocyanide, has been developed. Salient features of this method include low palladium precatalyst loadings (as low as 1.0 mol% total Pd), mild reaction conditions, and environmentally benign by-products compared to other (pseudo)halide aryl electrophiles. Tomato pomace (TP) is an underutilized source of bioactive compounds with potential application in the food sector. A factorial experiment was designed to compare three culinary techniques, Thermomix®, Roner®, and traditional pan-frying, for the preparation of tomato sauces, enriched or not with TP, applying two temperatures and two cooking times. A multivariate analysis was performed on all the results obtained for the metabolites. The addition of TP significantly increased the content of bioactive compounds, especially phenolic compounds. OPLS-DA models were generated using cooking technique, temperature, and time as discriminant factors. The cooking technique had a greater effect on the phenolic content than cooking temperature or time. Thermomix® released bioactive compounds from the tomato into the sauce to a similar extent as pan-frying. Roner® proved to be effective in preserving the volatile fraction of the sauce. The work aims to prepare a flour with grape pomace and incorporate it into the formulation of cookies for enriching them nutritionally. Flours showed a high concentration of phenolic compounds (272.9 mg of gallic acid equivalent (GAE).100 g−1), anthocyanins (78.4 mg.100 g−1) and antioxidant activity (38.4 µmol.g−1) through the ABTS method, as for macronutrients carbohydrates (55.9%), lipids (10.3%) and fibers (22.6%) were the ones that stood out the most. Cookies made with a blend of flours stood out against the same macronutrients as flours, with highly digestible proteins (75%), in addition they were microbiologically safe, with low hardness and fracturability (>90 N.s−1 and 40 N.mm−1 respectively). The dispersion of antibiotics in livestock farming represents a health concern worldwide, contributing to the spread of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria through animals, the environment, and humans. Phenolic compounds could be alternatives to antibiotics, once drawbacks such as their low water solubility, bioavailability, and reduced stability are overcome. Although nano- or micro-sized formulations could counter these shortcomings, they do not represent cost-effective options. In this study, three phenolic compounds, obtained from wood-processing manufacturers, were characterized, revealing suitable features such as their antioxidant activity, size, and chemical and colloidal stability for in-field applications. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of these colloidal suspensions was measured against six bacterial strains isolated from livestock. These particles showed different inhibition behaviors: Colloidal chestnut was effective against one of the most threatening antibiotic-resistant pathogens, i.e., S. aureus, but ineffective toward E. coli. Instead, colloidal pine showed a weak effect on S. aureus but specificity toward E. coli. Tetrahydroquinolines are key structures in a variety of natural products with diverse pharmacological utilities and other applications. A series of 3,4-diaryl-5,7-dimethoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolines were synthesized in good yield by reacting 3-aryl-5,7-dimethoxy-2,3-dihydroquinolin-4-ones with different Grignard reagents followed by the dehydration of the intermediate phenolic compounds. Subsequent reduction and deprotection were carried out to achieve the desired tetrahydroquinolone moiety. The lead compound 3c showed low micromolar inhibition of various cancer cell lines. Olive trees not only produce olives but also generate a substantial amount of waste and by-products, including leaves, pomace (the solid remains after pressing olives for oil), and wastewater from the olive oil-making process. The waste products, particularly the leaves, contain bioactive compounds, especially phenolic compounds, known for their health benefits, such as high antioxidant potential and the ability to reduce inflammation. These compounds have shown promise in preventing and treating cancer. This review, based on in vitro evidence, provides a detailed description and discussion of the mechanisms through which these compounds from olive leaves can prevent development, the ways they might act against cancer cells, and their potential to increase the sensitivity of tumor cells to conventional anticancer therapy. The possible synergistic effects of these compounds suggest that olive leaf extracts may offer a promising approach for cancer treatment, compared with isolated compounds, thus providing novel possibilities for cancer therapy.
