1. A multi-field couped model for controlling segregation in twin-roll casting

Abstract: So-called center and edge segregation are formed during twin-roll casting, which cannot be effectively eliminated in subsequent rolling and heat treatment, thus significantly diminishing the quality of final product. Numerous studies have been conducted on such segregations so far, unfortunately, without fully considering conservation of mass, momentum, energy and solute throughout the process, as well as synergy of thermodynamics and kinetics for interfacial migration. Accordingly, a two-phase Eulerian-Eulerian volume-averaged model is herein established to predict the segregation upon twin-roll casting for Al–Si alloys, which, for the first time, addresses effects due to the interfacial migration and the solute diffusion on the solute transfer process, and so-called correlation between thermodynamics and kinetics (i.e., thermo-kinetic correlation). On this basis, the model accurately predicts the flow field upon twin-roll casting, where, the increased casting speed leads to the descended kissing point, thus gradually causing the decreased vortex area and the increased cooling rate. Whereas, the increased heat transfer coefficient leads to the ascended kissing point, thus gradually causing the increased vortex area and the decreased cooling rate. In the modeling, the increased thermodynamic driving force for interfacial migration is always accompanied by the decreased kinetic energy barrier, and vice versa. Furthermore, the model also accurately predicts the segregation upon twin-roll casting, where, the thermodynamic driving force increases with the casting speed, thus decreasing the central segregation, whereas, the heat transfer coefficient increases, thus enhancing the generalized stability and in turn, effectively suppressing the edge segregation. By employing a strategy involving high driving force in the early stage and high generalized stability in the late stage, it was determined that the anticipated center and edge segregation could be effectively suppressed.

2. Genome-wide identification of CaWD40 proteins reveals the involvement of a novel complex (CaAN1-CaDYT1-CaWD40-91) in anthocyanin biosynthesis and genic male sterility in Capsicum annuum

Abstract: Abstract Background The WD40 domain, one of the most abundant in eukaryotic genomes, is widely involved in plant growth and development, secondary metabolic biosynthesis, and mediating responses to biotic and abiotic stresses. WD40 repeat (WD40) protein has been systematically studied in several model plants but has not been reported in the Capsicum annuum (pepper) genome. Results Herein, 269, 237, and 257 CaWD40 genes were identified in the Zunla, CM334, and Zhangshugang genomes, respectively. CaWD40 sequences from the Zunla genome were selected for subsequent analysis, including chromosomal localization, phylogenetic relationships, sequence characteristics, motif compositions, and expression profiling. CaWD40 proteins were unevenly distributed on 12 chromosomes, encompassing 19 tandem duplicate gene pairs. The 269 CaWD40s were divided into six main branches (A to F) with 17 different types of domain distribution. The CaWD40 gene family exhibited diverse expression patterns, and several genes were specifically expressed in flowers and seeds. Yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) and dual-luciferase assay indicated that CaWD40-91 could interact with CaAN1 and CaDYT1, suggesting its involvement in anthocyanin biosynthesis and male sterility in pepper. Conclusions In summary, we systematically characterized the phylogeny, classification, structure, and expression of the CaWD40 gene family in pepper. Our findings provide a valuable foundation for further functional investigations on WD40 genes in pepper.

Abstract: Abstract Using e + e − annihilation data sets corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.5 fb −1, collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.600 and 4.699 GeV, we report the first measurements of the absolute branching fractions B Λ c + → p K L 0 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0\right) $$ = (1.67 ± 0.06 ± 0.04)%, B Λ c + → p K L 0 π + π − $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}\right) $$ = (1.69 ± 0.10 ± 0.05)%, and B Λ c + → p K L 0 π 0 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0{\pi}^0\right) $$ = (2.02 ± 0.13 ± 0.05)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. No significant asymmetries with statistical significance are observed.

4. Large language multimodal models for new-onset type 2 diabetes prediction using five-year cohort electronic health records

Abstract: Abstract Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a prevalent health challenge faced by countries worldwide. In this study, we propose a novel large language multimodal models (LLMMs) framework incorporating multimodal data from clinical notes and laboratory results for diabetes risk prediction. We collected five years of electronic health records (EHRs) dating from 2017 to 2021 from a Taiwan hospital database. This dataset included 1,420,596 clinical notes, 387,392 laboratory results, and more than 1505 laboratory test items. Our method combined a text embedding encoder and multi-head attention layer to learn laboratory values, and utilized a deep neural network (DNN) module to merge blood features with chronic disease semantics into a latent space. In our experiments, we observed that integrating clinical notes with predictions based on textual laboratory values significantly enhanced the predictive capability of the unimodal model in the early detection of T2DM. Moreover, we achieved an area greater than 0.70 under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) for new-onset T2DM prediction, demonstrating the effectiveness of leveraging textual laboratory data for training and inference in LLMs and improving the accuracy of new-onset diabetes prediction.

5. Investigating the shared genetic architecture between depression and subcortical volumes

Abstract: Abstract Depression, a widespread and highly heritable mental health condition, profoundly affects millions of individuals worldwide. Neuroimaging studies have consistently revealed volumetric abnormalities in subcortical structures associated with depression. However, the genetic underpinnings shared between depression and subcortical volumes remain inadequately understood. Here, we investigate the extent of polygenic overlap using the bivariate causal mixture model (MiXeR), leveraging summary statistics from the largest genome-wide association studies for depression (N = 674,452) and 14 subcortical volumetric phenotypes (N = 33,224). Additionally, we identify shared genomic loci through conditional/conjunctional FDR analyses. MiXeR shows that subcortical volumetric traits share a substantial proportion of genetic variants with depression, with 44 distinct shared loci identified by subsequent conjunctional FDR analysis. These shared loci are predominantly located in intronic regions (58.7%) and non-coding RNA intronic regions (25.4%). The 269 protein-coding genes mapped by these shared loci exhibit specific developmental trajectories, with the expression level of 55 genes linked to both depression and subcortical volumes, and 30 genes linked to cognitive abilities and behavioral symptoms. These findings highlight a shared genetic architecture between depression and subcortical volumetric phenotypes, enriching our understanding of the neurobiological underpinnings of depression.

6. Dietary saccharin sodium supplementation improves the production performance of dairy goats without residue in milk in summer

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of dietary saccharin sodium supplementation on production performance, serum biochemical indicators, and rumen fermentation of dairy goats in summer. Twelve Guanzhong dairy goats with similar body weight, days in milk, and milk yield were randomly divided into two dietary treatments: (1) CON: basal diet; (2) SS: basal diet + 150 mg/kg saccharin sodium on the basis of dry matter. The experiment lasted 35 d, including 7 d for adaptation and 28 d for dietary treatments, sampling and data collection. Each dairy goat was housed individually in a clean separate pen with ad libitum access to diet and water. The goats fed SS diet had increased dry matter intake (DMI; P = 0.037), 4% fat corrected milk yield (P = 0.049), energy corrected milk yield (P = 0.037), milk protein yield (P = 0.031), and total solids yield (P = 0.036). Serum activity of aspartate aminotransferase (P = 0.047) and concentrations of 70-kDa heat shock protein (P = 0.090), malondialdehyde (P = 0.092), and total protein (P = 0.057) were lower in goats fed SS diet than those fed CON diet. Supplementation of saccharin sodium tended to increase activity of glutathione peroxidase in serum (P = 0.079). The concentrations of rumen total volatile fatty acid (P = 0.042) and butyrate (P = 0.038) were increased by saccharin sodium supplementation. Dietary supplementation of saccharin sodium increased the relative abundance of Lachnobacterium (P = 0.022), Pseudoramibacter (P = 0.022), Shuttleworthia (P = 0.025), and Syntrophococcus (P = 0.037), but reduced the relative abundance of Prevotella_1 (P = 0.037) and Lachnospiraceae_UCG_008 (P = 0.037) in rumen. Saccharin sodium was observed in feces and urine of goats fed diet supplemented with saccharin sodium, but saccharin sodium was undetectable in the milk of goats receiving SS diet. In conclusion, administration of saccharin sodium was effective in increasing fat and energy corrected milk yield by increasing DMI and improving rumen fermentation and antioxidant capacity of dairy goats in summer. In addition, saccharin sodium residue was undetectable in the milk.

Abstract: Abstract The processes h c → γP (P = η′, η, π 0) are studied with a sample of (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The decay h c → γη is observed for the first time with the significance of 9.0 σ, and the branching fraction is determined to be (3.77 ± 0.55 ± 0.13 ± 0.26) × 10 −4, while B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (h c → γη′) is measured to be (1.40 ± 0.11 ± 0.04 ± 0.10) × 10 −3, where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second systematic, and the third from the branching fraction of ψ(3686) → π 0 h c . The combination of these results allows for a precise determination of R h c = B h c → γη B h c → γ η ′ , $$ {R}_{h_c}=\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({h}_c\to {\pi}^0\gamma \eta \right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({h}_c\to {\pi}^0\gamma {\eta}^{\prime}\right)}, $$ which is calculated to be (27.0 ± 4.4 ± 1.0)%. The results are valuable for gaining a deeper understanding of η − η′ mixing, and its manifestation within quantum chromodynamics. No significant signal is found for the decay h c → γπ 0, and an upper limit is placed on its branching fraction of B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (h c → γπ 0) < 5.0 × 10 −5, at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: Abstract Anion exchange membrane water electrolysis (AEMWE) has seen rapid advancements over the past decade due to its promising role in green hydrogen production. Ensuring long-term functionality is as crucial as optimizing performance to achieve commercial viability and industrial integration. However, few studies have systematically discussed the degradation issues of this technology. Therefore, a thorough understanding of AEMWE degradation is needed to guide the design, assembly, operation, and maintenance of the device over its lifetime. To address this gap, this review systematically overviewed the heterogeneous degradation of AEMWE across different material and interface levels, focusing on several key components including catalysts, ionomers, membranes, and gas diffusion layers. The influences of these components and their interfaces on the catalytic efficiency, active site density, and mass and electron transfer capabilities were discussed. Moreover, the impacts of operation conditions, including temperature, electrolyte composition, and clamping pressure, on the stable operation of AEMWE were assessed. Accordingly, current mitigation strategies to resolve these degradation phenomena were rigorously evaluated. By offering insights into optimizing operations, designing materials, and improving assessment protocols for AEMWE, this work will contribute to enhancing its stability for large-scale hydrogen production.

Abstract: Abstract As major terrestrial carbon sinks, forests play an important role in mitigating climate change. The relationship between the seasonal uptake of carbon and its allocation to woody biomass remains poorly understood, leaving a significant gap in our capacity to predict carbon sequestration by forests. Here, we compare the intra-annual dynamics of carbon fluxes and wood formation across the Northern hemisphere, from carbon assimilation and the formation of non-structural carbon compounds to their incorporation in woody tissues. We show temporally coupled seasonal peaks of carbon assimilation (GPP) and wood cell differentiation, while the two processes are substantially decoupled during off-peak periods. Peaks of cambial activity occur substantially earlier compared to GPP, suggesting the buffer role of non-structural carbohydrates between the processes of carbon assimilation and allocation to wood. Our findings suggest that high-resolution seasonal data of ecosystem carbon fluxes, wood formation and the associated physiological processes may reduce uncertainties in carbon source-sink relationships at different spatial scales, from stand to ecosystem levels.

Abstract: Abstract Using e + e − collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies between 3.510 and 4.914 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 25 fb −1, we measure the Born cross sections for the process e + e − → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ at thirty-five energy points with a partial-reconstruction strategy. By fitting the dressed cross sections of e + e − → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ , evidence for ψ 4160 → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ $$ \psi (4160)\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda $$ is found for the first time with a significance of 4.4σ, including systematic uncertainties. No evidence for other possible resonances is found. In addition, the products of electronic partial width and branching fraction for all assumed resonances decaying into K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ are determined.

Abstract: Abstract With a sample of (10087 ± 44) × 106 J/ψ events accumulated with the BESIII detector, we analyze the decays η′ → π + π − l + l − (l = e, μ) via the process J/ψ → γη′. The branching fractions are measured to be B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (η′ → π + π − e + e − ) = (2.45 ± 0.02(stat.) ± 0.08(syst.)) × 10 −3 and B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (η′ → π + π − μ + μ − ) = (2.16 ± 0.12(stat.) ± 0.06(syst.)) × 10 −5, and the ratio is B η ′ → π + π − e + e − B η ′ → π + π − μ + μ − = 113.4 ± 0.9 stat . ± 3.7 syst . $$ \frac{\mathcal{B}\left({\eta}^{\prime}\to {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{e}^{+}{e}^{-}\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({\eta}^{\prime}\to {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)}=113.4\pm 0.9\left(\textrm{stat}.\right)\pm 3.7\left(\textrm{syst}.\right) $$ . In addition, by combining the η′ → π + π − e + e − and η′ → π + π − μ + μ − decays, the slope parameter of the electromagnetic transition form factor is measured to be b η′ = 1.30 ± 0.19 (GeV/c 2) −2, which is consistent with previous measurements from BESIII and theoretical predictions from the VMD model. The asymmetry in the angle between the π + π − and l + l − decay planes, which has the potential to reveal the CP-violation originating from an unconventional electric dipole transition, is also investigated. The asymmetry parameters are determined to be A CP η ′ → π + π − e + e − = − 0.21 ± 0.73 stat . ± 0.01 syst . % $$ {\mathcal{A}}_{CP}\left({\eta}^{\prime}\to {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{e}^{+}{e}^{-}\right)=\left(-0.21\pm 0.73\left(\textrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.01\left(\textrm{syst}.\right)\right)\% $$ and A CP η ′ → π + π − μ + μ − = 0.62 ± 4.71 stat . ± 0.08 syst . % $$ {\mathcal{A}}_{CP}\left({\eta}^{\prime}\to {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)=\left(0.62\pm 4.71\left(\textrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.08\left(\textrm{syst}.\right)\right)\% $$ , implying that no evidence of CP-violation is observed at the present statistics. Finally, an axion-like particle is searched for via the decay η′ → π + π − a, a → e + e − , and upper limits of the branching fractions are presented for the mass assumptions of the axion-like particle in the range of 0 − 500 MeV/c 2.

13. Large-scale 2D heterostructures from hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks and graphene with distinct Dirac and flat bands

Abstract: Abstract The current strategies for building 2D organic-inorganic heterojunctions involve mostly wet-chemistry processes or exfoliation and transfer, leading to interface contaminations, poor crystallizing, or limited size. Here we show a bottom-up procedure to fabricate 2D large-scale heterostructure with clean interface and highly-crystalline sheets. As a prototypical example, a well-ordered hydrogen-bonded organic framework is self-assembled on the highly-oriented-pyrolytic-graphite substrate. The organic framework adopts a honeycomb lattice with faulted/unfaulted halves in a unit cell, resemble to molecular “graphene”. Interestingly, the topmost layer of substrate is self-lifted by organic framework via strong interlayer coupling, to form effectively a floating organic framework/graphene heterostructure. The individual layer of heterostructure inherits its intrinsic property, exhibiting distinct Dirac bands of graphene and narrow bands of organic framework. Our results demonstrate a promising approach to fabricate 2D organic-inorganic heterostructure with large-scale uniformity and highly-crystalline via the self-lifting effect, which is generally applicable to most of van der Waals materials.

Abstract: Abstract We measured the Born cross sections for the process e + e − → ωη′ at 22 center-of-mass energies from 2.000 to 3.080 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. We observed a resonant structure with a statistical significance of 9.6σ. A Breit-Wigner fit determines its mass to be M R = (2153 ± 30 ± 31) MeV/c 2 and its width to be Γ R = (167 ± 77 ± 7) MeV, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.

15. Model based on the automated AI-driven CT quantification is effective for the diagnosis of refractory Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia

Abstract: Abstract The prediction of refractory Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (RMPP) remains a clinically significant challenge. This study aimed to develop an early predictive model utilizing artificial intelligence (AI)-derived quantitative assessment of lung lesion extent on initial computed tomography (CT) scans and clinical indicators for RMPP in pediatric inpatients. A retrospective cohort study was conducted on patients with M. pneumoniae pneumonia (MP) admitted to the Children’s Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, China from January 2019 to December 2020. An early prediction model was developed by stratifying the patients with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP) into two cohorts according to the presence or absence of refractory pneumonia. A retrospective cohort of 126 children diagnosed with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP) was utilized as a training set, with 85 cases classified as RMPP. Subsequently, a prospective cohort comprising 54 MPP cases, including 37 instances of RMPP, was assembled as a validation set to assess the performance of the predictive model for RMPP from January to December 2021. We defined a constant Φ which can combine the volume and CT value of pulmonary lesions and be further used to calculate the logarithm of Φ to the base of 2 (Log2Φ). A clinical-imaging prediction model was then constructed utilizing Log2Φ and clinical characteristics. Performance was evaluated by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). The clinical model demonstrated AUC values of 0.810 and 0.782, while the imaging model showed AUC values of 0.764 and 0.769 in the training and test sets, respectively. The clinical-imaging model, incorporating Log2Φ, temperature(T), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), preadmission fever duration (PFD), and preadmission macrolides therapy duration (PMTD), achieved the highest AUC values of 0.897 and 0.895 in the training and test sets, respectively. A prognostic model developed through automated quantification of lung disease on CT scans, in conjunction with clinical data in MPP may be utilized for the early identification of RMPP.

16. Identification and validation of a prognostic model based on four genes related to satellite nodules in hepatocellular carcinoma

Abstract: Abstract Satellite nodules is a key clinical characteristic which has prognostic value of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Currently, there is no gene-level predictive model for Satellite nodules in liver cancer. For the 377 HCC cases collected from the dataset of Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), their original pathological data were analyzed to extract information regarding satellite nodules status as well as other relevant pathological data. Then, this study employed statistical modeling for prognostic model establishment in TCGA, and validation in International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) cohorts and GSE76427. Through rigorous statistical analyses, 253 differential satellite nodules-related genes (SNRGs) were identified, and four key genes related to satellite nodules and prognosis were selected to construct a prognostic model. The high-risk group predicted by our model exhibited an unfavorable overall survival (OS) outlook and demonstrated an association with adverse worse clinical characteristics such as larger tumor size, higher alpha-fetoprotein, microvascular invasion and advanced stage. Moreover, the validation of the model's prognostic value in the ICGC and GSE76427 cohorts mirrored that of the TCGA cohort. Besides, the high-risk group also showed higher levels of resting Dendritic cells, M0 macrophages infiltration, alongside decreased levels of CD8+ T cells and γδT cells infiltration. The prognostic model based on SNRGs can reliability predict the OS of HCC and is likely to have predictive value of immunotherapy for HCC.

Abstract: Abstract The construction of a large-scale quantum internet requires quantum repeaters containing multiple entangled photon sources with identical wavelengths. Semiconductor quantum dots can generate entangled photon pairs deterministically with high fidelity. However, realizing wavelength-matched quantum-dot entangled photon sources faces two difficulties: the non-uniformity of emission wavelength and exciton fine-structure splitting induced fidelity reduction. Typically, these two factors are not independently tunable, making it challenging to achieve simultaneous improvement. In this work, we demonstrate wavelength-tunable entangled photon sources based on droplet-etched GaAs quantum dots through the combined use of AC and quantum-confined Stark effects. The emission wavelength can be tuned by ~1 meV while preserving an entanglement fidelity f exceeding 0.955(1) in the entire tuning range. Based on this hybrid tuning scheme, we finally demonstrate multiple wavelength-matched entangled photon sources with f > 0.919(3), paving the way towards robust and scalable on-demand entangled photon sources for quantum internet and integrated quantum optical circuits.

18. Evaporate-casting of curvature gradient graphene superstructures for ultra-high strength structural materials

Abstract: Abstract In contemporary manufacturing, the processing of structural materials plays a pivotal role in enabling the creation of robust, tailor-made, and precise components suitable for diverse industrial applications. Nonetheless, current material forming technologies face challenges due to internal stress and defects, resulting in a substantial decline in both mechanical properties and processing precision. We herein develop a processing strategy toward graphene superstructure with a curvature gradient, which allows us to fabricate robust structural materials with meticulously designed functional shapes. The structure consists of an arc-shaped assembly of graphene nanosheets positioned at co-axial curvature centers. During the dehydration-based evaporate-casting process, the assembly is tightened via capillary effect, inducing local bending. By precisely tuning the axis-center distance and tilt angle, we achieve accurate control over the shape of obtained structure. Notably, internal stress is harnessed to reinforce a designed mortise and tenon structure, resulting in a high joining strength of up to ~200 MPa. This innovative approach addresses the challenges faced by current material forming technologies and opens up more possibilities for the manufacturing of robust and precisely shaped components.

Abstract: Multistage thermomechanical treatment experiments were conducted on Cu–Ni–Co–Si–Mg alloy strip prepared by the Heating Cooling Combined Mold (HCCM) horizontal continuous casting-cold rolling process. Effects of various heat treatments on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and electrical conductivity of the alloy were studied. The strengthening mechanisms and factors influencing the performance of each process has been analyzed. The tensile strength, yield strength, and electrical conductivity of Cu–Ni–Co–Si–Mg alloy can reach 894 MPa, 855 MPa, and 47.1 %IACS after a third-stage of thermomechanical treatment (TTMT). The cold rolling in first-stage of thermomechanical treatment (FTMT) not only caused work hardening of the alloy but also promoted the precipitation of solute atoms and the growth of second phase particles, limiting the increase in strength. Second-stage of thermomechanical treatment (STMT) effectively hindered the excessive growth of second phase particles in FTMT but shortened recrystallization process. The superior performance of Cu–Ni–Co–Si–Mg alloy after TTMT was attributed to dispersive precipitation of Ni, Co, and Si elements as (Ni, Co) 2Si phases in the copper matrix, strengthening the interaction between the precipitates and dislocations. A short process of HCCM horizontal continuous casting-cold rolling-thermomechanical treatment was developed to produce a high strength and highly electrically conductive Cu–Ni–Co–Si alloy strip used in lead frames.

Abstract: Lightweight refractory high-entropy alloy (LRHEA) is one of potential structural materials in aerospace industry for its excellent high-temperature comprehensive properties and low density. In this work, a new high-throughput method to develop LRHEAs was proposed. The equimolar HfNbTaTiZr alloy was immersed with melting pure aluminum for a given time, and a thick layer with composition gradient was obtained. Further characterizations of the layer result in relations between composition and nanohardness or Young's modulus, which facilitate the selection of the optimal composition with desired properties. Finally, three LRHEAs were designed and casted into bulk samples with arc-melting method. The alloys show superhigh Vickers hardness of 8.29–9.56 GPa and low densities of 6.27–7.08 g/cm3, showing great potentials in applications as wear-resistant materials. The high-throughput method developed here may also accelerate the development of new LRHEAs.

Abstract: Abstract Objective This cross‐sectional study aimed to determine the epidemiology of olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions related to COVID‐19 in China. Methods This study was conducted by 45 tertiary Grade‐A hospitals in China. Online and offline questionnaire data were obtained from patients infected with COVID‐19 between December 28, 2022, and February 21, 2023. The collected information included basic demographics, medical history, smoking and drinking history, vaccination history, changes in olfactory and gustatory functions before and after infection, and other postinfection symptoms, as well as the duration and improvement status of olfactory and gustatory disorders. Results Complete questionnaires were obtained from 35,566 subjects. The overall incidence of olfactory and taste dysfunction was 67.75%. Being female or being a cigarette smoker increased the likelihood of developing olfactory and taste dysfunction. Having received four doses of the vaccine or having good oral health or being a alcohol drinker decreased the risk of such dysfunction. Before infection, the average olfactory and taste VAS scores were 8.41 and 8.51, respectively; after infection, they decreased to 3.69 and 4.29 and recovered to 5.83 and 6.55 by the time of the survey. The median duration of dysosmia and dysgeusia was 15 and 12 days, respectively, with 0.5% of patients having symptoms lasting for more than 28 days. The overall self‐reported improvement rate was 59.16%. Recovery was higher in males, never smokers, those who received two or three vaccine doses, and those that had never experienced dental health issues, or chronic accompanying symptoms. Conclusions The incidence of dysosmia and dysgeusia following infection with the SARS‐CoV‐2 virus is high in China. Incidence and prognosis are influenced by several factors, including sex, SARS‐CoV‐2 vaccination, history of head‐facial trauma, nasal and oral health status, smoking and drinking history, and the persistence of accompanying symptoms.

Abstract: Abstract Objective This study aims to investigate the clinical and pathological characteristics, treatment approaches, and prognosis of gallbladder neuroendocrine carcinoma (GB-NEC). Methods Retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 37 patients with GB-NEC admitted to Shanxi Cancer Hospital from January 2010 to June 2023. The study included an examination of their general information, treatment regimens, and overall prognosis. Results Twelve cases, either due to distant metastasis or other reasons, did not undergo surgical treatment and received palliative chemotherapy (Group 1). Two cases underwent simple cholecystectomy (Group 2); four patients underwent palliative tumor resection surgery (Group 3), and nineteen patients underwent radical resection surgery (Group 4). Among the 37 GB-NEC patients, the average pre-surgery CA19-9 level was 113.29 ± 138.45 U/mL, and the median overall survival time was 19 months (range 7.89–30.11 months). Of these, 28 cases (75.7%) received systemic treatment, 25 cases (67.6%) underwent surgical intervention, and 16 cases (64.0%) received postoperative adjuvant treatment, including combined radiochemotherapy or chemotherapy alone. The median overall survival time was 4 months (0.61–7.40 months) for Group 1 (n = 12), 8 months for Group 2 (n = 2), 21 months (14.67–43.33 months) for Group 3 (n = 4), and 19 months (range 7.89–30.11 months) for Group 4 (n = 19). A significant difference in median overall survival time was observed between Group 1 and Group 4 (P = 0.004). Conclusion Surgery remains the primary treatment for GB-NEC, with radical resection potentially offering greater benefits to patient survival compared to other therapeutic options. Postoperative adjuvant therapy has the potential to extend patient survival, although the overall prognosis remains challenging.

Abstract: Lean strategy, aimed at optimizing resources, minimizing energy usage, and achieving zero waste in the production process, has been increasingly embraced to reduce systemwide costs in manufacturing. However, practitioners in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) often lack the necessary expertize to implement lean strategies successfully. This study systematically examines the impact of lean strategy on the financial performance of Chinese SMEs. Specifically, we categorize lean strategy into two components: inventory leanness and operational leanness. We introduce a novel measure, the empirical production leanness indicator (EPLI), to quantify systematic production practices aimed at waste reduction. Drawing on a large sample of SMEs, our empirical findings suggest that both inventory leanness and operational leanness exhibit an inverted U-shaped relationship with an SME’s financial performance. In conclusion, this study contributes to the lean literature and offers significant practical implications for SMEs seeking to benefit from adopting lean strategies.

Abstract: Abstract Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a severe type of the non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). NASH is a growing global health concern due to its increasing morbidity, lack of well-defined biomarkers and lack of clinically effective treatments. Using metabolomic analysis, the most significantly changed active lipid sphingosine d18:1 [So(d18:1)] is selected from NASH patients. So(d18:1) inhibits macrophage HIF-2α as a direct inhibitor and promotes the inflammatory factors secretion. Male macrophage-specific HIF-2α knockout and overexpression mice verified the protective effect of HIF-2α on NASH progression. Importantly, the HIF-2α stabilizer FG-4592 alleviates liver inflammation and fibrosis in NASH, which indicated that macrophage HIF-2α is a potential drug target for NASH treatment. Overall, this study confirms that So(d18:1) promotes NASH and clarifies that So(d18:1) inhibits the transcriptional activity of HIF-2α in liver macrophages by suppressing the interaction of HIF-2α with ARNT, suggesting that macrophage HIF-2α may be a potential target for the treatment of NASH.

Abstract: RuO2 has been considered a potential alternative to commercial IrO2 for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) due to its superior intrinsic activity. However, its inherent structure dissolution in acidic environments restricts its commercial applications. In this study, we report a novel Pd-doped ruthenium oxide (Pd–RuO2) nanosheet catalyst that exhibits improved activity and stability through a synergistic effect of Pd modulation of Ru electronic structure and the two-dimensional structure. The catalyst exhibits excellent performance, achieving an overpotential of only 204 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm−2. Impressively, after undergoing 8000 cycles of cyclic voltammetry testing, the overpotential merely decreased by 5 mV. The PEM electrolyzer with Pd0.08Ru0.92O2 as an anode catalyst survived an almost 130 h operation at 200 mA cm−2. To elucidate the underlying mechanisms responsible for the enhanced stability, we conducted an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis, which reveals that the electron transfer from Pd to Ru effectively circumvents the over-oxidation of Ru, thus playing a crucial role in enhancing the catalyst's stability. Furthermore, density functional theory (DFT) calculations provide compelling evidence that the introduction of Pd into RuO2 effectively modulates electron correlations and facilitates the electron transfer from Pd to Ru, thereby preventing the over-oxidation of Ru. Additionally, the application of the two-dimensional structure effectively inhibited the aggregation and growth of nanoparticles, further bolstering the structural integrity of the catalyst.

Abstract: Solar photovoltaic (PV) electricity offers a promising solution for the increasing demand for clean and sustainable energy, particularly in developing countries like Ghana. Power utility operators maintain power quality as their utmost priority per benchmarks established by regulators. Some researchers argue that increasing variable renewable sources in the grid compromises its stability, leading to poor power quality. This paper aims to evaluate the suitability of reactive power management (technical aspect) in a solar PV microgrid in meeting regulators' power quality benchmarks. It also presents the economics associated with reactive power management. The study uses Python optimisation algorithms to achieve the technical objective. The net present value (NPV), profitability index (PI) and discounted payback period (DPP) are the econometrics used to assess the economic viability of reactive power management in this study. The results show that optimising reactive power in microgrids reduces power losses, increasing the utility's energy sales. An annual energy savings of 1,985,600 MWh was made due to the reactive power optimisation, leading to significant economic returns for the microgrid. The NPV, PI and DPP calculated from the study were GHS 12,528,583,512, 10,404.3, and one year, respectively. Therefore, it suggests reactive power optimisation to microgrid and grid operators as a viable solution to meet regulators' benchmarks.

Abstract: Phase transformations are feasible approaches for tailoring microstructures to achieve desired mechanical properties. However, the direct link between phase transformations and mechanical properties remains poorly studied. Here, using the theory of generalized stability (GS), we theoretically and experimentally correlate the bainitic transformation with the mechanical property of bainitic streels from a thermo-kinetic perspective. We established a quantitative relationship between the thermodynamic driving force and the yield strength, and explored the underlying physical correlation between the GS and the ductility. It is demonstrated that the thermodynamics-kinetics trade-off in the bainitic transformation inherently leads to the mutually exclusive relation between the yield strength and the uniform elongation. Specifically, a higher driving force generally results in an increased yield strength, while a larger GS tends to yield improved uniform elongation. Our findings provide fundamental insights into the relationship between the thermo-kinetics of bainitic transformation and mechanical properties, offering potential guidance for designing bainitic transformations to directly achieve superior mechanical performances.

Abstract: The key to inrush water control engineering in coal mine lies in forming a water-resistant barrier through the pouring of aggregate, which achieves flow interception and reduction. In order to quantitatively describe the spatiotemporal evolution mechanism of aggregate accumulation, an analytical calculation method is proposed to divide the process of aggregate settling and stacking into the process of particle layers superposition with a certain thickness and theoretical formulas for the entire process from settlement to pile after aggregate pouring in a dynamic water environment about critical parameters (horizontal displacement of particle xd, dynamic repose angle ψ, flow velocity in the topping zone U, critical flow velocity for aggregate retention Ucr) are proposed. Based on this, a prediction model about the growth of aggregate accumulation is constructed. The distribution characteristics of the flow field and the differences in aggregate accumulation morphology during the pouring period are studied with CFD-DEM, and the rationality of the prediction model is verified. The study reveals that spatially, the location of the main sedimentary domain during the initial interception phase can be divided into three regions, depending on whether the initial flow velocity Us exceeds the incipient flow velocity for particles Uc or the critical flow velocity for aggregate retention Ucr. That is considered ineffective pouring if the main sedimentary domain lies in region ③. Temporally, the growth process of aggregate accumulation can be summarized into three stages: a height rapid increase stage, a synchronous growth stage in height and length, and a stage with only horizontal elongation. The presence of the first stage is determined by the initial flow velocity, while the duration of the first stage is predominantly governed by the pouring conditions (particle size, pouring rate). A critical criterion for pore clogging and aggregate retention is derived based on sediment transport rate and incipient flow velocity from sediment dynamics. The numerical simulation experimental results indicate that the prediction model effectively characterizes the growth law of aggregate accumulation because the relative error between the theoretical calculation values and the simulated experiment values is less than 10% after the aggregate stacking stabilizes.

Abstract: Objective Yishu fault zone geothermal field and central Shandong uplift geothermal field are typical geothermal fields in south central Shandong Province. In order to investigated the distribution characteristics and mechanisms of fluorine enrichment in the geothermal water of the this area, Methods hydrochemical diagrams, geochemical simulations and principal component analysis were employed. Results The results show that the geothermal water in the study area is mainly Na-Ca-Cl-, Na-Ca-SO4-Cl- and Na-Cl-SO4-type water, dominated by weakly alkaline water. The predominant cation is the sodium ion, with fluorine concentration between 0.38 and 4.5 mg/L. Sodium-rich and weakly alkaline environments are faciliated to the enrichment of fluorine in the geothermal water. The fluorine concentration has significant positive correlations with the Na+, Cl- and TDS concentrations in the geothermal water. In addition, it has significant positive correlations with K+ and SO42- concentrations and significant negative correlations with Mg2+ and HCO3- concentrations in the geothermal water in the Yishu fault zone. The cation exchange effect in the geothermal water of the central Shandong uplift zone is stronger than that in the Yishu fault zone, and the reaction strength of Na+ is significantly stronger than that of Mg2+. The geothermal field of the central Shandong uplift and Yishu fault zones are both fracturing types. The thermal storage lithologies are limestone, limestone in the thermal alteration zone and ansanite in the broken belt, with strong water-rock interactions. The provenance of fluorine in the geothermal water is the dissolution reprecipitation of fluorine-containing minerals, and the fluorine concentration in the geothermal water is further increased by cation exchange and other water-rock interactions. High temperature and sodium-rich have a great influence on fluorine enrichment. Conclusion This research provides a reference for the exploitation and utilization of geothermal resources.

Abstract: Abstract Using e + e − collision data collected at the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.33 fb −1, we determine the absolute branching fractions of fifteen hadronic D s + $$ {D}_s^{+} $$ decays with a double-tag technique. In particular, we make precise measurements of the branching fractions B D s + → K + K − π + = 5.49 ± 0.04 ± 0.07 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}^{+}{K}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)=\left(5.49\pm 0.04\pm 0.07\right)\% $$ , B D s + → K S 0 K + = 1.50 ± 0.01 ± 0.01 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}_S^0{K}^{+}\right)=\left(1.50\pm 0.01\pm 0.01\right)\% $$ and B D s + → K + K − π + π 0 = 5.50 ± 0.05 ± 0.11 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}^{+}{K}^{-}{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^0\right)=\left(5.50\pm 0.05\pm 0.11\right)\% $$ , where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. The CP asymmetries in these decays are also measured and all are found to be compatible with zero.

Abstract: Abstract Drug-eluting stents are a commonly used treatment for coronary artery disease. However, the coatings used in drug-eluting stents have some limitations such as poor biocompatibility and drug loading capacity. In recent years, self-assembly methods have emerged as a promising alternative for stent coatings. Self-assembled coatings employ biomaterials and offer several advantages over traditional coatings, including thinner thickness, stronger binding capacity, and better biocompatibility. This review discusses the latest research on self-assembled biomaterial-based coatings for drug-eluting stents. We explore how layer-by-layer coatings and composite coating films have been utilized to load and release drugs with high drug loading capacity and biocompatibility, as well as how they promote endothelial adhesion and growth. Additionally, we examine how self-assembled coatings have been used to release active molecules for anti-coagulation and deliver gene therapy. Moreover, we discuss the potential of self-assembled coatings for future development, including intelligent targeted drug delivery, bionic stent coatings, and 3D printed stent coatings. These advancements have the potential to further improve the effectiveness of drug-eluting stents in treating coronary artery disease.

33. Synergetic regulation of SEI mechanics and crystallographic orientation for stable lithium metal pouch cells

Abstract: Abstract The advancement of Li-metal batteries is significantly impeded by the presence of unstable solid electrolyte interphase and Li dendrites upon cycling. Herein, we present an innovative approach to address these issues through the synergetic regulation of solid electrolyte interphase mechanics and Li crystallography using yttrium fluoride/polymethyl methacrylate composite layer. Specifically, we demonstrate the in-situ generation of Y-doped lithium metal through the reaction of composite layer with Li metal, which reduces the surface energy of the (200) plane, and tunes the preferential crystallographic orientation to (200) plane from conventional (110) plane during Li plating. These changes effectively passivate Li metal, thereby significantly reducing undesired side reactions between Li and electrolytes by 4 times. Meanwhile, the composite layer with suitable modulus (~1.02 GPa) can enhance mechanical stability and maintain structural stability of SEI. Consequently, a 4.2 Ah pouch cell with high energy density of 468 Wh kg−1 and remarkable capacity stability of 0.08% decay/cycle is demonstrated under harsh condition, such as high-areal-capacity cathode (6 mAh cm−2), lean electrolyte (1.98 g Ah−1), and high current density (3 mA cm−2). Our findings highlight the potential of reactive composite layer as a promising strategy for the development of stable Li-metal batteries.

34. Identification of differentially expressed ER stress-related genes and their association with pulmonary arterial hypertension

Abstract: Abstract Background Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a complex and progressive illness that has a multifaceted origin, significant fatality rates, and profound effects on health. The pathogenesis of PAH is poorly defined due to the insufficient understanding of the combined impact of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and immune infiltration, both of which play vital roles in PAH development. This study aims to identify potential ER stress-related biomarkers in PAH and investigate their involvement in immune infiltration. Methods The GEO database was used to download gene expression profiles. Genes associated with ER stress were obtained from the MSigDB database. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), GO, KEGG, and protein-protein interaction (PPI) were utilized to conduct screening of hub genes and explore potential molecular mechanisms. Furthermore, the investigation also delved into the presence of immune cells in PAH tissues and the correlation between hub genes and the immune system. Finally, we validated the diagnostic value and expression levels of the hub genes in PAH using subject-workup characterization curves and real-time quantitative PCR. Results In the PAH and control groups, a total of 31 genes related to ER stress were found to be differentially expressed. The enrichment analysis revealed that these genes were primarily enriched in reacting to stress in the endoplasmic reticulum, dealing with unfolded proteins, transporting proteins, and processing proteins within the endoplasmic reticulum. EIF2S1, NPLOC4, SEC61B, SYVN1, and DERL1 were identified as the top 5 hub genes in the PPI network. Immune infiltration analysis revealed that these hub genes were closely related to immune cells. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves revealed that the hub genes exhibited excellent diagnostic efficacy for PAH. The levels of SEC61B, NPLOC4, and EIF2S1 expression were in agreement with the findings of bioinformatics analysis in the PAH group. Conclusions Potential biomarkers that could be utilized are SEC61B, NPLOC4, and EIF2S1, as identified in this study. The infiltration of immune cells was crucial to the development and advancement of PAH. This study provided new potential therapeutic targets for PAH.

Abstract: Abstract Using (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected by the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 3.686 GeV, we search for the first time for two nonleptonic hyperon decays that change strangeness by two units, Ω − → Σ0 π − and Ω − → nK − . No significant signal is observed. The upper limits on their decay branching fractions are determined to be B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Ω − → Σ0 π − ) < 5.4 × 10 −4 and B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Ω − → nK − ) < 2.4 × 10 −4 at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: Abstract Using 24.1 fb −1 of e + e − collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the Born cross sections and effective form factors of the e + e − → Σ + Σ ¯ − $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {\Sigma}^{+}{\overline{\Sigma}}^{-} $$ reaction are measured. The measurements are performed at center-of-mass energies ranging from 3.510 to 4.951 GeV. No significant evidence for the decay of the charmonium(-like) states, ψ(3770), ψ(4040), ψ(4160), Y(4230), Y(4360), ψ(4415), and Y(4660), into a Σ + Σ ¯ − $$ {\Sigma}^{+}{\overline{\Sigma}}^{-} $$ final state is observed. Consequently, upper limits for the products of the branching fractions and the electronic partial widths at the 90% confidence level are reported for these decays.

37. Clean recycling of spent nickel-based single-crystal superalloy by molten magnesium

Abstract: Nickel-based single-crystal superalloys are designed for extreme conditions due to their superior corrosion and creep resistance properties. However, these pose challenges in the subsequent recycling after reaching their end-of-life. Molten magnesium (Mg) can rapidly corrode the stable spent nickel-based superalloys and selectively dissolve nickel (Ni). This waste-free process represents an effective method for recycling spent superalloys and accomplishing metal regeneration. This study investigates the mechanism of selectively dissolving Ni from DD5, a nickel-based single-crystal superalloy, by optimizing process temperature, time, and Mg content in an inert atmosphere. Vacuum distillation was employed to separate the resulting Mg, residual superalloy (i.e., the material left post-extraction), and Ni-rich alloy (i.e., the metal product selectively extracted). The findings revealed that the residual superalloy after selective Ni dissolution is characterized by a porous skeleton structure with pore sizes predominantly ranging from 2 to 30 nm and a low compressive strength which is 1/10 of the original DD5 superalloy.

Abstract: As major forming elements of γ′ strengthening phase, Al and Ti are critical for achieving superior properties of Ni-based superalloy. However, Al + Ti over 6 wt% leads to poor printability and cracking during additive manufacturing. In this work, the printability and properties of a nickel-based superalloy with Al + Ti reaching 7 wt% is synchronously improved via alloying minor Sc, the mechanism behind that is revealed by investigating the effects of Sc on the grain size, precipitation, and tensile fracture behavior of that nickel-based superalloy. This work provides a promising alternative method for optimizing the performance of superalloys prepared by additive manufacturing.

39. The pRb/RBL2-E2F1/4-GCN5 axis regulates cancer stem cell formation and G0 phase entry/exit by paracrine mechanisms

Abstract: Abstract The lethality, chemoresistance and metastatic characteristics of cancers are associated with phenotypically plastic cancer stem cells (CSCs). How the non-cell autonomous signalling pathways and cell-autonomous transcriptional machinery orchestrate the stem cell-like characteristics of CSCs is still poorly understood. Here we use a quantitative proteomic approach for identifying secreted proteins of CSCs in pancreatic cancer. We uncover that the cell-autonomous E2F1/4-pRb/RBL2 axis balances non-cell-autonomous signalling in healthy ductal cells but becomes deregulated upon KRAS mutation. E2F1 and E2F4 induce whereas pRb/RBL2 reduce WNT ligand expression (e.g. WNT7A, WNT7B, WNT10A, WNT4) thereby regulating self-renewal, chemoresistance and invasiveness of CSCs in both PDAC and breast cancer, and fibroblast proliferation. Screening for epigenetic enzymes identifies GCN5 as a regulator of CSCs that deposits H3K9ac onto WNT promoters and enhancers. Collectively, paracrine signalling pathways are controlled by the E2F-GCN5-RB axis in diverse cancers and this could be a therapeutic target for eliminating CSCs.

40. VSEM-SAMMI: An Explainable Multimodal Learning Approach to Predict User-Generated Image Helpfulness and Product Sales

Abstract: Abstract Using user-generated content (UGC) is of utmost importance for e-commerce platforms to extract valuable commercial information. In this paper, we propose an explainable multimodal learning approach named the visual–semantic embedding model with a self-attention mechanism for multimodal interaction (VSEM-SAMMI) to predict user-generated image (UGI) helpfulness and product sales. Focusing on SHEIN (i.e. a fast-fashion retailer), we collect the images posted by consumers, along with product and portrait characteristics. Moreover, we use VSEM-SAMMI, which adopts a self-attention mechanism to enforce attention weights between image and text, to extract features from UGI then use machine learning algorithms to predict UGI helpfulness and product sales. We explain features using a caption generation model and test the predictive power of embeddings and portrait characteristics. The results indicate that when predicting commercial information, embeddings are more informative than product and portrait characteristics. Combining VSEM-SAMMI with light gradient boosting (LightGBM) yields a mean squared error (MSE) of 0.208 for UGI helpfulness prediction and 0.184 for product sales prediction. Our study offers valuable insights for e-commerce platforms, enhances feature extraction from UGI through image–text joint embeddings for UGI helpfulness and product sales prediction, and pioneers a caption generation model for interpreting image embeddings in the e-commerce domain.

We demonstrated that DDP triggered ferroptosis in NPC cells, and it inhibited tumor growth via inducing ferroptosis in xenograft model. CAFs secreted high level of FGF5, thus inhibiting DDP-induced ferroptosis in NPC cells. Mechanistically, FGF5 secreted by CAFs directly bound to FGFR2 in NPC cells, leading to the activation of Keap1/Nrf2/HO-1 signaling. Rescued experiments indicated that FGFR2 overexpression inhibited DDP-induced ferroptosis, and CAFs protected against DDP-induced ferroptosis via FGF5/FGFR2 axis in NPC cells. In vivo data further showed the protective effects of FGF5 on DDP-triggered ferroptosis in NPC xenograft model. In conclusion, CAFs inhibited ferroptosis to decrease DDP sensitivity in NPC through secreting FGF5 and activating downstream FGFR2/Nrf2 signaling. The therapeutic strategy targeting FGF5/FGFR2 axis from CAFs might augment DDP sensitivity, thus decreasing the side effects of DDP in NPC treatment.

Abstract: Abstract Using (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, the decay of ψ(3686) → Ω − K + Ξ ¯ 0 $$ {\varOmega}^{-}{K}^{+}{\overline{\Xi}}^0 $$ + c.c. is observed for the first time. The branching fraction of this decay is measured to be B ψ 3686 → Ω − K + Ξ ¯ 0 + c . c . $$ {\mathcal{B}}_{\psi (3686)\to {\varOmega}^{-}{K}^{+}{\overline{\Xi}}^0+\textrm{c}.\textrm{c}.} $$ = (2.78 ± 0.40 ± 0.18) × 10 −6, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Possible baryon excited states are searched for in this decay, but no evident intermediate state is observed with the current sample size.

Abstract: Abstract Brainbow is a genetic cell-labeling technique that allows random colorization of multiple cells and real-time visualization of cell fate within a tissue, providing valuable insights into understanding complex biological processes. However, fluorescent proteins (FPs) in Brainbow have distinct excitation spectra with peak difference greater than 35 nm, which requires sequential imaging under multiple excitations and thus leads to long acquisition times. In addition, they are not easily used together with other fluorophores due to severe spectral bleed-through. Here, we report the development of a single-wavelength excitable Brainbow, UFObow, incorporating three newly developed blue-excitable FPs. We have demonstrated that UFObow enables not only tracking the growth dynamics of tumor cells in vivo but also mapping spatial distribution of immune cells within a sub-cubic centimeter tissue, revealing cell heterogeneity. This provides a powerful means to explore complex biology in a simultaneous imaging manner at a single-cell resolution in organs or in vivo.

Abstract: IntroductionThe primary objective of our study was to evaluate the first use of a novel intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) catheter in human subjects. This study aimed to assess its practicality, image clarity, and guidance role during electrophysiology procedures.MethodsTwo patients underwent procedures using the novel ICE catheter. Post-procedure evaluations were conducted by four operators, who assessed the imaging quality and overall performance of the catheter. Anatomical and blood test results were also analyzed to determine the safety and impact on internal cardiac structures.ResultsBoth patients were discharged one day after the procedure without any complications. The novel ICE catheter provided comparable imaging quality to existing commercial catheters. The catheter's advanced design allowed for detailed imaging at short distances, essential for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. Moreover, it successfully navigated complex anatomical structures like the atrial septum and left atrial appendage.DiscussionThese preliminary studies indicate that the novel ICE catheter achieves a level of safety and effectiveness comparable to previously available commercial catheters. The findings highlight its potential to meet current clinical needs, particularly in sophisticated anatomic interventions. Despite the prolonged thrombin time after anticoagulant administration, both types of ICE catheters were non-damaging to cardiac structures during routine operations. The study underscores the importance of using trans-septal large inner diameter sheaths to minimize complications when advancing the catheter into the left atrium.

Abstract: Plant-associated microbial communities are crucial for plant growth and health. However, assembly mechanisms of microbial communities and microbial interaction patterns remain elusive across vary degrees of pathogen-induced diseases. By using 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing technology, we investigated the impact of wildfire disease on the microbial composition and interaction network in plant three different compartments. The results showed that pathogen infection significantly affect the phyllosphere and rhizosphere microbial community. We found that the primary sources of microbial communities in healthy and mildly infected plants were from the phyllosphere and hydroponic solution community. Mutual exchanges between phyllosphere and rhizosphere communities were observed, but microbial species migration from the leaf to the root was rarely observed in severely infected plants. Moreover, wildfire disease reduced the diversity and network complexity of plant microbial communities. Interactions among pathogenic bacterial members suggested that Caulobacter and Bosea might be crucial “pathogen antagonists” inhibiting the spread of wildfire disease. Our study provides deep insights into plant pathoecology, which is helpful for the development of novel strategies for phyllosphere disease prediction or prevention.

46. Experimental study on the mass transfer and microscopic distribution characteristics of remaining oil and CO2 during water-miscible CO2 flooding

Abstract: Accurate understanding and quantitative characterization of the microscopic distribution and mobilization mechanisms of remaining oil are crucial for further enhancing oil recovery during CO2 flooding. In this study, miscible CO2 flooding experiments after water flooding were performed to investigate the mass transfer and microscopic distribution characteristics of remaining oil and CO2 using micro-computed tomography technique. Additionally, the distribution characteristics of multiphase fluids (oil, water and CO2) in the pores were comprehensively investigated. Furthermore, the mass transfer effects during the miscible CO2 flooding process, as well as the CO2 sequestration ratio (SR) and sequestration factor (SF) were systematically examined. The experimental results show that the ultimate oil recovery factor after miscible CO2 flooding were 80.9 %, 70.7 %, and 64.7 %, respectively. During the water flooding stage, the produced oil mainly consisted of light hydrocarbons (C5–C16), followed by medium hydrocarbons (C17–C27). The remaining oil was mainly in cluster and network pattern, followed by multiple and oil film pattern. After miscible CO2 flooding, the produced gas mainly consisted of CO2 and CH4, with a significant increase in the mass fraction of light hydrocarbons (C5–C16) in the produced oil. The remaining oil was mainly in multiple and singlet pattern, followed by network and film pattern, with a small portion in cluster pattern. The higher the displacement rate, the smaller the SR, but most of the injected CO2 (SR > 70 %) was retained in the porous media, demonstrating the feasibility of CO2 geological sequestration during the miscible flooding process.

Abstract: To reduce the distortion effects of traveling wavefronts for fault location in distribution networks, a novel fault traveling wave detection method employing Robust Local Mean Decomposition (RLMD), Teager Energy Operator (TEO) and Incremental Difference Ratio (IDR) is proposed. According to the dispersion characteristic of traveling waves with multi-branch lines, the sampled faulty traveling wave signal is filtered using the RLMD method, then the TEO is used to determine the first half-wave time interval of the fault traveling wave. Finally, the IDR is proposed to detect the initial moment of the faulty traveling wave. And according to the fault traveling wave transmission path of multi-branch lines, the complex multi-branch line fault location problem is transformed into a three-terminal fault location problem. The fault traveling wave location method is proposed based on the three-terminal fault matrix, which achieves the fault location through the gradual reduction of the fault area range. Simulation and experiment results indicate that the method proposed in this paper can effectively calculate the arrival time of faulty traveling waves, and is more suitable for fault detection in multi-branch distribution lines compared to existing methods. The new proposed faulty location method can achieve reliable location to reduce location errors.

Abstract: Understanding and managing soil organic carbon stocks (SOCS) are integral to ensuring environmental sustainability and the health of terrestrial ecosystems. The information of soil bulk density (BD) is important in accurately determining SOCS while it is often missing in the soil database. Using 3,504 soil profiles (14,170 soil samples) that represented diverse regions across China, we investigated the effectiveness of various pedotransfer functions (PTFs), including traditional PTFs, machine learning (ML), and ensemble model (EM), in predicting BD. The results showed that refitting the parameter(s) in traditional PTFs was essential for BD prediction (coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.299–0.432, root mean squared error (RMSE) of 0.156–0.162 g cm−3, Lin’s concordance coefficient (LCCC) of 0.428–0.605). Compared to traditional PTFs, ML can greatly improve the model performance for BD prediction with R2 of 0.425–0.616, RMSE of 0.129–0.158 g cm−3 and LCCC of 0.622–0.765. Our results also showed that EM can further improve BD prediction by ensembling four ML models (R2 = 0.630, RMSE = 0.126 g cm−3, LCCC = 0.775). Using the EM model, we filled the missing BD (1207 soil profiles with 3,112 soil samples) in our database and built the SOC stock database (4,275 soil profiles with 17,282 soil samples). This study can be a good reference for gap-filling the missing BD depending on the data availability, thus contribute to a deeper understanding in soil C related climate change mitigation, ecological balance preservation and environmental sustainability promotion.

50. Salvia miltiorrhiza stem-leaf of total phenolic acid conversion products alleviate myocardial ischemia by regulating metabolic profiles, intestinal microbiota and metabolites

Abstract: Myocardial ischemia (MI) is a significant contributor to ischemic heart diseases like angina pectoris and myocardial infarction. Reactive oxygen species produced during MI can trigger lipid peroxidation, damaging cell structure and function. Salvia miltiorrhiza (SM) has been widely used clinically in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. However, in the process of rooting, the aboveground parts of this plant are usually discarded by tons. To make better use of these plant resources, the phenolic acids extracted and purified from the aerial part of SM were studied and chemically transformed, and the potential protective effect and possible mechanism of salvianolic acids containing a higher content of salvianolic acid A on MI were obtained. The transformed products of SM stem-leaves total phenolic acids with 8.16 % salvianolic acid A showed a better protective effect on the isoproterenol (ISO)-induced acute MI injury rat model. It can improve ST segment changes and has good antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant effects. In addition, the dysbiosis of gut microbiota and the related metabolic levels of short chain fatty acids (SCFAs), phenylalanine and glycerophospholipids were improved. This was achieved by reducing the abundance of Bacteroides, Faecalibaculum, and L-phenylalanine levels. In addition, the abundance of probiotics in Butyricoccus, Roseburia, and norank_f_Eubacterium_coprostanoligenes_group, as well as the contents of propionic acid and isobutyric acid, LPCs and PCs were increased. In conclusion, total phenolic acids of SM stem-leaves showed protective effects against ISO-induced rats, especially the strongest effect after conversion, which is a new option for the prevention and treatment of MI.
