Abstract

Tetrakis(thiadiazole)porphyrazine is a macrocycle similar to phthalocyanine which is synthesized from the corresponding divalent magnesium derivative. It can also be used in the synthesis of the divalent copper derivative. Infrared spectroscopy identified solvated and unsolvated species. The absorption spectrum of the compound is compared with that of other phthalocyanine chromophores.

Abstract

Ruthenium phthalocyanine (PcRu)2 reacts with dioxygen under different conditions to yield a solid amorphous oxygen-containing aggregate, HO-((Pc)RuO)n-H. Large-angle X-ray scattering technique reveals the structure of this cofacially assembled ruthenoxane substance. Infra-red, resonance Raman, EPR, and magnetic susceptibility studies throw more light on its structure and electronic state. Its stability as a solid and in a solution of H2SO4 is discussed. The relationship between its structure and electrical conductivity is detailed.

Abstract

The synthesis, chemical physical characterization, and electrical conductivity properties of the species (PcFe)(sub 2)C(I3)0.66, obtained by doping of (PcFe)(sub 2)C, suggests a relationship between structure and electrical conductivity. Powder diffraction patterns of (PcFe)(sub 2)C(I3)0.66 indicate isomorphism with PcNiL and other saltlike I(sub 2) doped linearly elongated metal phthalocyanine derivatives. Mossbauer, EPR, and IR spectra shows the presence of Fe(IV) an the formation of the phthalocyanine pi-cation radical.

Abstract

The oxidation-reduction reaction of mixed-ligand single-atom bridged Fe-Fe and Re-Ru mu-nitrido dimers with I2 was investigated. Both species formed monopositively charged Fe-Fe and Fe-Ru mu-nitrido dimers with I5(sup -) neutralizing ions. The crystal structure of the (THF)(TPP)Fe-N-FePc(H2O) (I5)2THF was also studied via x-ray spectroscopy. It revealed the existence of a linear Fe-N-Fe bond system in the nitrido dimeric cation and the I5(sup -) V-shaped group.

Abstract

Pc2Ti and PC2 are oxidized by I2 and nitric acid, and the resultant compounds are analyzed for their electrical and structural properties using X-ray and spectroscopy techniques. The X-ray structure of PC2TiI2, formed by PC3Ti oxidation by I3, shows anisotropic Ti and I variations while the P2 molecule is isotropically refined. New PC complexes have better electrical conductivity than their precursors.

Abstract

Previous studies using EXAFS and LAXS techniques have established that solid amorphous ruthenium phthalocyanine derived from DMSO, pyridine and isoquinoline adducts is dimeric and has chained, aggregate-forming dimers, short intradimer Ru-Ru and long interdimer bond distances. These studies also claim that the Ru-Ru interdimer distance has a value of 2.40 angstroms. However, recent EXAFS findings revealed that very short Ru-Ru interdimer contacts have a value of 3.52 angstroms.

Abstract

A multicentric study was conducted by the European Musculoskeletal Oncology Society on 113 cases of resection for tumors of the major long bones and reconstruction with massive allografts, as intercalary diaphyseal or for arthrodesis. The follow-up was at least 12 months. There was a 14% incidence of infection, with a higher frequency (18.5%) in intercalary grafts as compared to arthrodeses (7%). Fracture of the graft occurred in 15.5% of the cases with a prevalence in the humerus (28.5%) as compared to the tibia (21.4%) and femur (14.7%). Fracture constantly occurred after osteosynthesis with screws, in 16% of the cases after osteosynthesis with a plate, and in 12.5% of the cases after osteosynthesis with an intramedullary nail. It was observed in 32% of the grafts preserved at -30 degrees, in 17% of those irradiated, and in 7% and 7.6% of those preserved at -180 degrees and -80 degrees, respectively. Delayed union and non-union was observed in 57% of the cases: 63% in intercalary grafts, 48% in arthrodeses. Final results after treatment of complications were excellent and good in 63% of the entire series. The results should, however, be evaluated after 3 years, as during this period of time important transformation phenomena of the graft occur. Complications are observed in 75% of the cases, but they may be reduced if planning is correct and surgery is accurate. Each complication may be dealt with and resolved without high risks for preservation of the limb.
