Objective: To find out if motion sickness susceptibility (MSS) of vestibular migraine (VM) patients and migraine only (MO) patients can be reliably detected with a single simple question: "Can you read while travelling in a car without getting motion sick?"., Method: Ninety-two definite VM and 58 MO patients and 74 healthy control (HC) subjects were asked about their MSS and about being able to read while riding in a car without becoming motion sick. A Motion Sickness Susceptibility Questionnaire (MSSQ-Short) including childhood (MSA), adulthood (MSB) and total (MST) parts was also administered to all participants. ROC curves of MSSQ-Short were prepared for "not being able to read in a car" as the gold standard., Results: Mean MSA scores were significantly higher in both VM and MO patients than in HCs (p < 0.001), but their scores were not significantly different (p = 0.171). Mean MSB and MST scores were significantly higher in VM than in MO patients (p < 0.001) and both VM and MO patients had significantly higher scores than HCs (p < 0.001). MSA scores were significantly higher than MSB scores in MO patients (p < 0.001). All sections of the questionnaire were associated with high area-under-curve values for MSS detected by the question about being able to read in a car without becoming motion sick., Conclusion: We propose that all migraine patients could have the same level of MSS in childhood but MO patients are able to compensate over years, but VM patients are not. Objective: The aim of this study is to compare the balance ability, anxiety level and motion sickness susceptibility in Vestibular Migraine (VM) patients, migraineurs without history of vertigo (Migraine-only, MO) and healthy controls (HC). We tested the hypothesis that VM patients have worse balance performance and higher anxiety level and motion sickness than MO and HC group., Methods: This cross-sectional study included of 123 definite VM patients, 58 MO patients and 49 HCs. All subjects were evaluated with the Dynamic Gait Index (DGI), the modified Clinical Test of Sensory Integration and Balance (mCTSIB), the Motion Sickness Susceptibility Questionnaire Short-Form (MSSQ-Short), the Panic Agoraphobic Spectrum Self-Report version (PAS-SR) and the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI)., Results: The main balance outcomes indicated that DGI and mCTSIB scores were worse in VM than in MO patients and worse in MO patients than in HCs. Almost 50% of the VM patients fell in the most challenging mCTSIB conditions compared with 20% of MO patients and none of the HCs. VM patients had more marked motion sickness susceptibility, higher anxiety and DHI scores than MO patients and HCs. VM patients who fell had higher DHI and anxiety scores than those who did not., Conclusion: Balance problems, motion sickness, anxiety, and disability are more marked in VM patients than in MO patients and more marked in MO patients than in HCs. Objective: To investigate the effect of continuous lung ventilation with low tidal volume on oxidation parameters, such as thiol/disulphide homeostasis and albumin-adjusted ischemia-modified albumin (AAIMA), during cardiopulmonary bypass (CBP) in coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)., Methods: Seventy-four patients who underwent elective CABG with CPB were included in the study. Blood samples were taken in the preoperative period, 10 minutes after CPB, and six and 24 hours postoperatively. Patients were assigned to the continuous ventilation group (Group 1, n=37) and the non-ventilated group (Group 2, n=37). The clinical characteristics, thiol/disulphide homeostasis, ischemia-modified albumin (IMA), and AAIMA levels of the patients were compared., Results: A significant difference was found between the groups regarding native thiol, total thiol, and IMA levels at the postoperative 24th hour (P=0.030, P=0.031, and P=0.004, respectively). There was no difference between the groups in terms of AAIMA. AAIMA levels returned to preoperative levels in Groups 1 and 2, at the 6th and 24th postoperative hours, respectively. Length of hospital stay was significantly shorter in Group 1 (P<0.001) than in Group 2., Conclusion: Continuous ventilation during CPB caused an increase in native and total thiol levels, an earlier return of AAIMA levels, and shorter hospital stay. Continuous ventilation may reduce the negative effects of CPB on myocardium (Table 2, Figure 1, and Reference 31).

Background: In a previous study, we had evaluated short-term effects of interferon beta-1a (IFNB-1a) 44 μg s.c. three times per week treatment on serum levels of IFN-gamma (IFNG), IL-23, IL-17, IL-10, IL-9, IL-4 and TGF-beta (TGFB) and found a reduction only in IL-17 and IL-23 levels after 2 months of treatment., Methods: Using the same multiple sclerosis (MS) cohort, we assessed the predictive value of early cytokine level changes (difference between 2nd month and baseline levels as measured by ELISA) on the efficacy of long-term IFNB-1a treatment., Results: The alteration in IFNG levels of patients without any relapse was statistically lower than that of patients having one or more relapses (p = 0.019, Student's t-test). When patients with or without expanded disability severity scale (EDSS) progression were compared, none of the cytokine level changes showed a significant difference between groups. IL-17 and IL-23 level changes did not predict relapse and EDSS progression in IFNB-1a-treated MS patients., Conclusion: Our results show that the predictive power of early IFNG measurement on relapse occurrence may potentially extend a time span of several years.

Degree of increase in pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) and adaptive responses in right ventricular morphology and mechanics play an important role in the prognosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. Three dimensional echocardiography and deformation imaging are recent advancements in echocardiography that allow more through assessment of right ventricle. We aimed to investigate right ventricular geometry and mechanics in a stable COPD population living at moderately high altitude. A total of 26 stable COPD patients with variable disease severity were included to this study. Pulmonary function tests, six minutes walking test (6MWT) and two- and three-dimensional echocardiography were performed for evaluation and data collection. Both systolic (43.06 ± 11.79 mmHg) and mean (33.38 ± 9.75 mmHg) PAPs were significantly higher in COPD patients compared to controls (p < 0.05, p < 0.001; respectively). Right ventricular volumes were similar between groups, although right ventricular free wall thickness was significantly increased in COPD group. The number of subjects with a sub-normal (<40 %) right ventricular ejection fraction was significantly higher in COPD group (45.8 vs. 17.4 %, p < 0.05), and the mean right ventricular strain was significantly lower (-21.05 ± 3.80 vs. -24.14 ± 5.37; p < 0.05). Only mean PAP and body surface area were found as independent predictors for 6MWT distance. Increased PAP and reduced right ventricular contractility were found in COPD patients living at moderately high altitude, although right ventricular volumes were normal. Similar findings can be expected in other COPD patients with high PAP, since these findings probably represents the effect of increased PAP on right ventricular mechanics.

Venlafaxine is the first antidepressant that acts via inhibiting serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake. Hypertension is observed in doses exceeding 300 mg/day and is the most feared complication. We report a patient with accelerated hypertension after venlafaxine use observed at a dose of 150 mg/day. A 23-year-old patient with symptoms of insomnia, depression, anhedonia, fatigue admitted our clinic. Venlafaxine at a dose of 75 mg/day was initiated after he was diagnosed with major depressive disorder. After 5 months, venlafaxine dose was uptitrated to 150 mg/day due to inadequate response to drug. After using venlafaxine for ten months at the dose of 150 mg/day, he admitted our clinic with headache and epistaxis. He was hospitalized after his blood pressure was measured as 210/170 mmHg. No secondary causes for hypertension were found, and venlafaxine treatment was considered possible etiologic factor. After stopping venlafaxine treatment, his blood pressure was reverted back to normal limits. While mild elevation of blood pressure could be observed after venlafaxine treatment, this case shows that accelerated hypertension with a diastolic blood pressure rise above 120 mmHg could be observed at relatively low doses of venlafaxine. Close monitoring of blood pressure is necessary after initiation of treatment, as accelerated hypertension could cause endorgan damage with potentially catastrophic results.

Objectives: We aimed to evaluate the short- and mid-term results of patients with atrial septal defect (ASD) who were treated with percutaneous closure., Study Design: Seventy-nine patients with secundum ASD (54 female and 25 male; mean age 26.2±17.2; range 3 to 71] years) were included in this study. Patients were evaluated by transthoracic (TTE) and/or transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). Amplatzer septal occluder (ASO) was used in all patients. In 76 patients, the procedure was performed under local anesthesia with TTE, while in the other 3 patients, it was performed with general anesthesia with TEE. Patients were followed up at the 1st, 3rd, 6th and 12th months and annually thereafter. Mean follow-up time was 13.6±6.6 months., Results: Mean diameter of ASDs was 18.2±7.5 mm and 20.7±8.04 mm during balloon dilatation, and mean diameter of implanted devices was 22.7±8.5 mm. Procedural time was 40.2±12.6 minutes and fluoroscopy time was 10.9±4.1 minutes. The procedure was successfully performed in all patients (100%). One patient with cardiac tamponade died seven days after cardiac surgery. In two patients, the implanted devices embolized to the pulmonary circulation. Residual flow was found in three patients immediately after the procedure, without residual shunts one month after closure. Mild pericardial effusion in one patient and significant residual shunt due to device malposition in another were discovered during the follow-up at 1 and 6 months, respectively, after the procedure., Conclusion: Our findings showed that percutaneous closure of ASDs is successful in most patients with a low complication rate, and demonstrated that residual shunts do not develop in the majority of patients in the short- and mid-term.

Introduction: Pulmonary vasculature is affected in patients with chronic pulmonary obstructive disease (COPD). As a result of increased pulmonary resistance, right ventricular morphology and function are altered in COPD patients. High altitude and related hypoxia causes pulmonary vasoconstriction, thereby affecting the right ventricle. We aimed to investigate the combined effects of COPD and altitude-related chronic hypoxia on right ventricular morphology and function., Materials and Methods: Forty COPD patients living at high altitude (1768 m) and 41 COPD patients living at sea level were enrolled in the study. All participants were diagnosed as COPD by a pulmonary diseases specialist depending on symptoms, radiologic findings and pulmonary function test results. Detailed two-dimensional echocardiography was performed by a cardiologist at both study locations., Results: Oxygen saturation and mean pulmonary artery pressure were higher in the high altitude group. Right ventricular end diastolic diameter, end systolic diameter, height and end systolic area were significantly higher in the high altitude group compared to the sea level group. Parameters of systolic function, including tricuspid annular systolic excursion, systolic velocity of tricuspid annulus and right ventricular isovolumic acceleration were similar between groups, while fractional area change was significantly higher in the sea level groups compared to the high altitude group. Indices of diastolic function and myocardial performance index were similar between groups., Conclusion: An increase in mean pulmonary artery pressure and right ventricular dimensions are observed in COPD patients living at high altitude. Despite this increase, systolic and diastolic functions of the right ventricle, as well as global right ventricular performance are similar in COPD patients living at high altitude and sea level. Objective: Prolapse of mitral valve leaflets is a frequent disorder and the most common cause of severe mitral regurgitation in western countries. However, little is known about the effects of altitude on mitral valve prolapse. We studied the prevalence and echocardiographic characteristics of mitral valve prolapse at moderately high altitude and sea level., Methods: A total of 936 consecutive subjects who were admitted to 2 study institutions at Kars, Turkey (1750 m) and Istanbul, Turkey (7 m) were enrolled in this study to determine prevalence of mitral valve prolapse. Demographic and 2-dimensional echocardiographic characteristics of participants were recorded., Results: Prevalence of mitral valve prolapse was found to be significantly higher in people living at moderate altitude compared with those living at sea level (6.2% vs 2.0%; P = .007). Overall echocardiographic features regarding valve thickness (4.1 ± 0.80 mm vs 3.6 ± 0.66 mm; P = 0.169), maximal valve prolapse (4.6 ± 2.08 mm vs 3.9 ± 0.91 mm; P = .093), and frequency of mitral regurgitation (89% vs 73%; P = .65) were similar between groups, although anterior valve prolapse was seen more frequently at moderate altitude (50% vs 11%; P = .056) and posterior leaflet prolapse was significantly more frequent at sea level (66% vs 10%; P = .002)., Conclusions: Mitral valve prolapse is more frequently observed at moderately high altitudes. Therapeutic effect of interferon-β (IFN-β) treatment has been associated with modulation of the balance between Th1, Th17, Th2 and regulatory T (Treg) cells, whereas the impact of disease modifying drugs on Th9-immunity in multiple sclerosis (MS) has not been studied. To investigate the short-term effects of IFN-β treatment on cytokines in MS, we determined serum levels of IL-17, IL-23, IL-10, IL-4, IFN-γ, IL-9 and TGF-β in relapsing remitting MS patients before and 2 months after IFN-β treatment by ELISA. MS patients showed increased IL-17, IL-23 and IL-4 levels and decreased IL-9 levels as compared to healthy controls. IFN-β treatment only reduced IL-17 and IL-23 levels, whereas the levels of other cytokines remained unchanged. IFN-β treatment appears to exert its earliest therapeutic effect on Th17-immunity. A 50-year-old male patient with dilated cardiomyopathy was evaluated for cardiac resynchronization therapy. A transthoracic echocardiogram revealed a mass in close proximity to the coronary sinus ostium.The mass was considered to be a thrombus and found to have disappeared at the repeat echocardiogram performed following a month of anticoagulation therapy with warfarin. The effectiveness of available neuropsychiatric drugs in the era of an increasing number of patients is not sufficient, and the complexity of neuropsychiatric disease entities that are difficult to diagnose and therapeutically is increasing. Also, discoveries about the pathophysiology of neuropsychiatric diseases are promising, including those initiating a new round of innovations in the role of oxidative stress in the etiology of neuropsychiatric diseases. Oxidative stress is highly related to mental disorders, in the treatment of which the most frequently used are first- and second-generation antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, and antidepressants. Literature reports on the effect of neuropsychiatric drugs on oxidative stress are divergent. They are starting with those proving their protective effect and ending with those confirming disturbances in the oxidation–reduction balance. The presented publication reviews the state of knowledge on the role of oxidative stress in the most frequently used therapies for neuropsychiatric diseases using first- and second-generation antipsychotic drugs, i.e., haloperidol, clozapine, risperidone, olanzapine, quetiapine, or aripiprazole, mood stabilizers: lithium, carbamazepine, valproic acid, oxcarbazepine, and antidepressants: citalopram, sertraline, and venlafaxine, along with a brief pharmacological characteristic, preclinical and clinical studies effects. This study aimed to determine the strategies used by Turkish language teachers within the scope of vocabulary development activities within the framework of mother tongue education and to reveal whether the level of use of vocabulary teaching strategies by Turkish language teachers is affected by the factors of length of professional experience and gender. In line with the objectives of the research, the data of the study, which was conducted in the survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, were obtained online through Vocabulary Teaching Strategies Scale (VTSS) in 2022-2023 school year. The sample of the research includes 401 teachers who work as Turkish teachers in middle schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. As a result of the statistical analysis of the data obtained within the scope of the research, it was found that Turkish teachers used vocabulary teaching strategies at a moderate level; the length of professional experience affected the frequency of using vocabulary teaching strategies; and gender had no effect on teachers' use of vocabulary teaching strategies. The study also found that teachers used control strategies the most and guidance strategies the least, and that the frequency of using vocabulary teaching strategies was in the order of control > reinforcement > explanation > skill acquisition > teaching > guidance strategies. Based on these results, which were interpreted in the light of the literature, various suggestions were made for teachers and mother language education planners. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to investigate the effect of Quiver application on science learning in the preschool period. The study was designed as an experimental design from the nice research type. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 40 children in two kindergartens in the same school determined by random assignment. Five different checklists determined by the researchers were used as data collection tools. Pre-tests and post-tests were conducted just before and just after the interventions with the preprepared checklists. The data were analyzed using the nonparametric Mann-Whitney U test used in the analysis of quantitative data. As a general result of the research, it was concluded that the activity processes planned with augmented reality application created a significant difference compared to the activity processes planned with traditional methods and provided higher learning. Looking at the themes separately, there was a significant difference in favor of the experimental groups in the themes of the cycle of water and rain formation, the life cycle of plants, and the food chain, while there was no significant difference between the knowledge levels of the experimental and control groups in the themes of the life cycle of the frog and sea creatures. Dystroglycan is a ubiquitously expressed heterodimeric cell-surface laminin receptor with roles in cell adhesion, signalling, and membrane stabilisation. More recently, the transmembrane β-subunit of dystroglycan has been shown to localise to both the nuclear envelope and the nucleoplasm. This has led to the hypothesis that dystroglycan may have a structural role at the nuclear envelope analogous to its role at the plasma membrane. The biochemical fraction of myoblast cells clearly supports the presence of dystroglycan in the nucleus. Deletion of the dystroglycan protein by disruption of the DAG1 locus using CRISPR/Cas9 leads to changes in nuclear size but not overall morphology; moreover, the Young's modulus of dystroglycan-deleted nuclei, as determined by atomic force microscopy, is unaltered. Dystroglycan-disrupted myoblasts are also no more susceptible to nuclear stresses including chemical and mechanical, than normal myoblasts. Re-expression of dystroglycan in DAG1-disrupted myoblasts restores nuclear size without affecting other nuclear parameters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Saprolegniosis is a major concern in freshwater aquaculture, particularly hatcheries since it causes high mortality and economic losses. Various chemical compounds are used to treat the disease, but they are not recommended due to their hazard effects on fish, humans, and ecosystems. The current study assessed the potential anti-oomycetes activity of crude and aqueous extracts of clove (Syzygium aromaticum) and thyme (Thymus vulgaris) against Saprolegnia australis (S. australis) and Achylia bisexualis (A. bisexualis) in vitro and in vivo. Both herb aqueous stock solutions were eventually prepared using the decoction method. The minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of both herbs' aqueous extracts were determined using the agar plate diffusion method. The ability of both herb aqueous extracts to kill the selected water molds was tested at various time points of exposure. Based on in vitro results, two in vivo field trials were planned to assess the efficacy of crude clove and thyme, first on the fecundity and hatchability of fertilized grass carp eggs. The second trial was designed to assess the antifungal potential against fungal infection during artificial egg incubation. Additionally, two experiments were planned to determine the toxicity parameters of each crude herb in grass carp fingerlings. The second experiment assessed the anti-saprolegniosis activity of selected crude herbs in artificially infected fingerlings. The results showed that S. australis and A. bisexualis were significantly inhibited at a 10% concentration in clove (0.8g/100mL) and thyme (3.2g/100mL) aqueous solutions. However, both herb aqueous extracts had fungicidal properties and killed both fungi at a 50% concentration of their stock solutions (4 and 16g/100mL of clove and thyme, respectively). Incubated eggs exposed to concentrations of 2 and 8g/L clove and thyme, respectively, exhibited high fecundity and hatchability rates. Furthermore, clove and thyme at concentrations of 2 and 4g/L could protect incubated eggs and fry from attack by S. australis and A. bisexualis, respectively. Clove and thyme at concentrations of 0.2-0.25 and 0.5-0.8g/L provided a safe indefinite bath, but at a concentration of 0.5 and 1g/L caused anesthesia after 24 hours of exposure. To successfully treat the infected Ctenopharyngodon idella (C. idella) fingerlings, the most effective doses were 0.25-0.5g/L for clove and 0.5g/L for thyme. Finally, clove and thyme in both crude and aqueous forms could introduce safe, low-cost, environmentally friendly, and easy applications into freshwater hatcheries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: Immunoglobulin A vasculitis (IgAV) is the most common vasculitis of childhood, but its pathogenesis is largely unknown, despite evidence pointing to various environmental and genetic factors. We investigated the frequency of MEFV gene mutations that are considered in the pathogenesis and their effect on the clinical features of patients with IgAV. Methods: The study included 244 children diagnosed with IgAV, who underwent MEFV gene analyses. We recorded the demographic and clinical characteristics of the patients, along with their laboratory results. We grouped the patients based on the presence of MEFV gene mutations and MEFV variants. Results: At least one MEFV mutation was detected in 89 (36.5%) patients, with E148Q being the most common (n=31, 34.8%). Age at diagnosis and the frequency of hematuria and recurrence were significantly greater among patients with MEFV mutations (p=0.043, p=0.008, and p=0.009, respectively). Serum IgA levels were significantly higher in patients with the M694V mutation (p=0.040). Conclusion: The presence of MEFV mutations, particularly E148Q and M694V, could be associated with the development and clinical course of IgA vasculitis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Which peculiar uncertainties does democratic erosion (DE) pose to opposition actors? How have these uncertainties influenced the behavior of opposition actors during Turkey's autocratization since the early 2000s? What can we learn from this case regarding the links between DE and opposition behavior? The latter should be treated as an integral part of explaining DE—the gradual decline in the quality of multiple aspects of democracy under popularly elected governments. We argue that a contextual uncertainty, "regime uncertainty" (RU) challenged Turkish opposition actors, compounding the other and related uncertainties they faced such as institutional and strategic uncertainties and affecting their resilience against DE. RU concerns the ambivalence that DE's inherent qualities generate about what the regime is, or is becoming. The resulting intra-opposition divisions and indecisions raise the question of whether the primary context, frame and end of opposition politics should be issue- and party-based competitive politics or defending democracy against an imminent threat. Hence, RU generates recurring rifts over "normal" versus "extraordinary" politics. We analyze the Turkish experience and intra-opposition politics in four sub-periods (nascent DE, consolidation of erosive power, advanced DE, breakdown and post-breakdown opposition experimentation). Turkish opposition actors' RU perceptions and resulting behaviors evolved on highly non-linear paths. We offer novel analytical/theoretical tools and argue that the agency and capacity of oppositions to overcome RU in a country, alongside their ability to surmount other challenges, should be considered an integral part of democratic resilience against erosion. Objective: The exact effects of MEFV variants on inflammation are still under investigation, and reports on variants of unknown significance, particularly the E148Q variant, have been conflicting. Therefore, this study aims to investigate patients exhibiting E148Q heterozygosity, focusing on diagnoses and disease courses to assist physicians in interpreting the variant., Methods: Data of pediatric patients presenting to the Pediatric Rheumatology clinic between November 2016 and September 2023, exhibiting only E148Q heterozygosity in MEFV gene analysis, were extracted. Patients who were lost before 9 months of follow-up have been excluded to ensure the completion of initial diagnostic tests and evaluations., Results: Among the 119 patients with E148Q variant, the diagnoses were as follows: healthy, 51.3%; IgA vasculitis, 10.1%; Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF), 7.6%; Periodic fever, Aphtous stomatitis, Pharyngitis, Adenitis (PFAPA), 6.7%; and other diagnoses, 19.3%. IgA vasculitis patients experienced articular, gastrointestinal, and renal involvement at rates of 91.7%, 58.3%, and 16.7%, respectively. Complete response, partial response, and no response to colchicine were 37.5%, 12.5%, and 50%, respectively, in PFAPA patients. All FMF patients responded to colchicine treatment resulting in reduced mean FMF episode counts in 6 months from 3.22 ± 0.92 to 0.56 ± 0.52., Conclusions: The E148Q variant may amplify inflammation and modify disease courses. Patients with the E148Q variant experiencing typical FMF episodes should receive colchicine, but clinicians should exercise caution regarding alternative diagnoses. Additionally, the E148Q variant may increase acute phase reactants and disease severity in IgA vasculitis. Background: Individuals from different generations are interacting more and more today, and while each generation exists with its own characteristics, this situation causes intergenerational differences in every issue in social life. Considering the characteristics of different generations, it is predicted that individuals' views on genital cosmetic surgery may differ., Objective: This study was conducted to examine the views of women of different generations on genital cosmetic surgery and to determine their perspectives on genital cosmetic surgery., Methods: The population of the study consists of women from different generations. The sample of the study was formed using typical case sampling from purposive sampling methods. Data saturation was reached by conducting qualitative interviews with 15 women by selecting the snowball sampling method. Data were collected using a semi-structured individual interview form, and data analysis was performed using MAXQDA 2020., Results: The opinions of women of different generations about genital cosmetic surgery were analysed under four themes and 13 categories as "Perception of Beauty", "Perception of Health", "Perception of Society" and "Perception of Need". The opinions of women of different generations about genital cosmetic surgery differ. It is thought that these differences may be caused by factors such as psychosocial, economic, environment, media, technological developments and culture. Introduction: This study investigates the heritage language performance of Turkish- German returnees upon their reintegration into Turkey and explores the impact of external factors on their proficiency in the (re-)activated heritage language (HL). Methods: Data collection involved the participation of 28 Turkish heritage speakers and a control group of 28 monolingual speakers. The language proficiency of both groups was assessed through a cloze test and an error correction task with a focus on converbial constructions, evidentiality and direct object case marking in Turkish. A sociolinguistic background questionnaire was used to obtain information about their language experiences. The study focused on understanding the individual and group differences in returnee's heritage language performance. Additionally, random forest analysis was employed to investigate the relative influence of external factors on individual variability within the returnee group. Results and Discussion: The analysis of results revealed notable group differences between the returnees and the control group, emphasizing the unique linguistic challenges faced by those who returned to Turkey. Within the returnee group, there was considerable individual variability in heritage language performance. The subsequent exploration of individual variation highlighted the significant role of external factors. Notably, the length of residence in Germany, the age at which participants returned to Turkey, and the frequency of Turkish language use in their migration context emerged as significant predictors of the returnee participants' proficiency in their (re-)activated HL. Surprisingly, formal contact with the dominant German language did not exert a substantial impact on the returnees' language proficiency, suggesting the nuanced influence of various external factors on heritage language development. Much has changed since our last review of recent advances in neuro-otology 7 years ago. Unfortunately there are still not many practising neuro-otologists, so that most patients with vestibular problems need, in the first instance, to be evaluated and treated by neurologists whose special expertise is not neuro-otology. The areas we consider here are mostly those that almost any neurologist should be able to start managing: acute spontaneous vertigo in the Emergency Room—is it vestibular neuritis or posterior circulation stroke; recurrent spontaneous vertigo in the office—is it vestibular migraine or Meniere's disease and the most common vestibular problem of all—benign positional vertigo. Popular history products are increasingly and successfully used as a means to brand entertainment media. However, there is a significant gap in empirical researches which considers variables that affect popular history consumption. The current study builds on social identity theory, theory of curiosity, and parasocial interaction theory aims to identify the relationships amongst popular history consumption in written, visual, and social media, nationalism, conservatism, nostalgia, and curiosity. The current research is predictive correlational research. In terms of time, it is a crosssectional study. Study 1 indicates that the PHPS scale may become an important instrument in future research. Study 2 indicates that curiosity, nostalgia proneness, conservatism, and nationalism were the main predictors of popular history consumption in the media. Also, the research revealed that nationalism was shown to be an important mediator between conservatism and popular history consumption in media.
