In this paper, we explain how defunct organizations influence the communities they leave behind through ongoing processes of communal memory work, a twofold social process through which members of collectives develop shared memories of a defunct organization and behaviorally engage with its mnemonic traces. We explore how individuals' shared construal of their environment shapes their emotional orientation towards their past, which in turn gives rise to particular forms of memory work. We further show how communal memory work influences changes in an organization's role in a community's identity and members' construal of their environment. We develop our theory through an analysis of a case study of South Bend, Indiana, in the 54 years following the closure of the Studebaker Corporation's automotive factory in 1963. Objective: To evaluate the effect of different adhesives and veneering resins on the shear bond strength (SBS) of polyetheretherketone (PEEK). Methods: A total of 138 PEEK specimens were randomly divided into 6 groups according to adhesive material application: Control (C, no application), Adhese Universal (A) (Ivoclar Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein), Gluma Bond Universal (G) (Heraeus Kulzer, South Bend, IN, USA), G-PremioBOND (P) (GC Corporation, Tokyo, Japan), Single Bond Universal (S) (3M, Saint Paul, MN, USA) and visio.link (V) (Bredent, Senden, Germany). Each adhesive group was divided into two subgroups according to the type of veneering material: Estenia direct composite (D) and Gradia Plus indirect composite (IN) (both GC Corporation). After the veneering process, the specimens were aged by thermal cycling. Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests were used for SBS analysis (P < 0.05). Results: The highest SBS results were obtained in the VIN group, followed by the VD, PD, GIN, AIN, AD, SIN, SD, PIN, GD, CIN and CD groups, respectively (P = 0.001). There were no significant differences in terms of the type of veneering composite when the same adhesive was applied (P > 0.05), except for Gluma Bond Universal (P = 0.009). All the adhesives tested showed clinically acceptable SBS results. Conclusion: Visio.link offered the highest adhesion to PEEK, whereas the tested universal adhesives may be used as an alternative to visio.link in clinical settings. This paper examines the working philosophy of a university-community collaborative program—the Robinson Community Learning Center (RCLC), a multifaceted community service center located in the Northeast Neighborhood of South Bend, Indiana, in the United States. This program's multitude of educational and social services includes individualized academic tutoring programs, violence prevention programs, computer classes, exercise classes, health services, and entrepreneurship classes. The invigoration of the Northeast Neighborhood that has occurred consequent to the RCLC's opening appears to be related to not only the significant financial and human resources garnered by its sponsoring higher education and community partners, but also by the shared philosophy of action that guides its everyday work. This philosophy, which is informed by Catholic social teaching, the African American Prophetic Christian tradition, and critical perspectives on social change, is especially evident in the leadership of the RCLC. This paper, then, describes the RCLC's philosophy of action and situates this philosophy in the broader discussion of higher education-community collaboration and critically prophetic action. The quality of the urban environment is crucial for societal well-being. Yet, measuring and tracking the quality of urban environment, their evolution, and spatial disparities is difficult due to the amount of on-the-ground data needed to capture these patterns. The growing availability of street view images presents new prospects in identifying urban features. However, the reliability and consistency of these methods across different locations and time remains largely unexplored. We aim to develop a comprehensive index of urban quality and change at the street segment level using Google Street View (GSV) imagery. We focus on eight object classes that indicate urban decay or contribute to an unsightly urban space, such as potholes, graffiti, garbage, tents, barred or broken windows, discolored or dilapidated façades, weeds, and utility markings. We train an object detection model on a dataset of images from different cities and assess the performance of these urban indices. We evaluate the effectiveness of this method in various urban contexts over time and discuss its potential for urban planning and public policy. We demonstrate the use of these indices in three applications: the Tenderloin in San Francisco, the Doctores and Historic Center neighborhoods in Mexico City, and South Bend, Indiana. Since the adoption of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), there is wider and more public interest in business growth in Mexico and trade expansion between the United States and Mexico. We examine the use of government-based and funded incentives for business development, location, and expansion - potential benefits for businesses in either country. There are distinct differences between the roles of government in attracting and subsidizing businesses in Mexico and the United States, particularly in the level of government involved and the relative emphasis on attracting foreign investment as opposed to the expansion of existing businesses. The experience of Latino(a) undergraduates at Notre Dame was the focus of this study. In general, the students had a positive experience at the university, but one that included challenges, including physical separation from family and familiar community. Family and spiritual supports were more important to the Latino(a) students as they coped with difficulties they encountered at the university, than for a comparable sample of Anglo students attending Notre Dame. This article examines the attitudinal clusters associated with interpersonal violence, intergroup violence within a society, and international violence. Some personality theorists believe in the myth of a violent personality. This ideal-type of person would resort to, or approve of violence to core with others in all kinds of situations. Assertion is made that violence is learned as people come to accept violence as a justifiable solution to some problems and not others. The article reviews data on students of University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, gathered just after the withdrawal of the U.S. from Vietnam and the beginning of the Watergate scandal. Questionnaires were administered to all students taking the required introductory courses in sociology. The findings indicate that those who score highest on parental restrictions, trust in political leaders, physical or emotional instability, and are action-oriented were likeliest to score highest on international violence. The variable of foreign aid, which has a negative correlation, plays an important part in the explained variance of international violence.
