Abstract

The article provides information about several of Atlantic-Canadian literature as well as presents a variety of themes that are being presented by authors in their works. It discusses the way Canada's East Coast and places within the region are characterized in the manuscripts in terms of its political, economic and cultural dynamics based on the postmodern era. In addition, it relates the development and growth in the of Canadian writers, as they continue to write about the national culture and tradition of the country.

This essat explores the themes of the writing of Newfoundland novelist Wayne Johnston. This shows in many ways the unearthing of parental secrets by using many of his own family memoirs. It shows how parents are often predefined by their past and how their parents and all before them raised children and developed families and family traditions. The family lines and the strength that they carry through all of the generations was discussed and that you see this best when you speak of old times and glance through books of memoirs of the days and years that have passed.
