Novel PS composites were prepared by adding lamellar hybrid made up of octa(γ-chloroaminopropyl) POSS and surfactant. TEM images show that the nanofillers are dispersed well in the composites. Cone calorimeter tests show that the values of peak HRR of the composites with 1 wt%, 3 wt%, 5 wt% and 10 wt% of nanofillers are 469.3 kW/m2, 492.9 kW/m2, 511.4 kW/m2 and 477.3 kW/m2, respectively. Comparied to PS, the relative decreases are 51.4%, 49.0%, 47.1%, 50.6%, respectively. The CO release rate and CO concentration are also decreased dramatically. TGA test shows the influences on the decomposition temperature and char residue of the composites by different filler contents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
