Background: Although previous studies have linked professional autonomy to nurses' job performance, research lacks how job satisfaction and organizational commitment mediate this relationship. Addressing this gap is essential for improving nursing practice outcomes. This study aims to determine the mediating effect of job satisfaction and organizational commitment in this relationship among Iranian nurses. Methods: This descriptive-correlational study was conducted in Urmia teaching hospitals from October 2022 to June 2023. Four hundred twenty nurses were recruited using quota sampling. Eligible participants were selected non-randomly from predetermined numbers at four hospitals, and recruitment continued until the required sample size was achieved. Data were collected using demographic questionnaires, the Varjus Professional Autonomy Scale, the Porter Organizational Commitment Questionnaire, the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire, and the Paterson Job Performance Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS ver. 23 and SmartPLS ver. 3. Results: Professional autonomy had a positive, direct, and strong effect on nurses' job performance (β = 0.708, t-value = 9.867, p < 0.001). Professional autonomy had a positive, direct, strong impact on job satisfaction (β = 0.854, t-value = 39.736, p < 0.001) and a positive, minor, and direct effect on organizational commitment (β = 0.199, t-value = 3.150, p = 0.000). Professional autonomy positively affects job performance through job satisfaction (β = 0.4016, 95% CI: 0.3280, 0.4736) and organizational commitment (β = 0.7582, 95% CI: 0.6088, 0.9086). Conclusions: Healthcare managers should promote nurses' autonomy and job satisfaction to enhance their performance. They can improve working conditions by offering competitive salaries, simplifying promotion processes, and involving nurses in decisions related to patient care. Additionally, essential steps to consider are supporting nursing autonomy, organizing educational classes, and implementing strategies such as stress reduction programs, reducing workloads, addressing nursing shortages, and decreasing working hours. In the context of increasing urbanization, understanding the influence of urban spatial layouts on microclimatic conditions has become crucial, particularly in high-density reclaimed areas like those in the Macao Peninsula, where optimizing thermal comfort is essential for enhancing residents' quality of life and promoting sustainable urban development. For this study, we assessed high-density reclaimed plots on the Macao Peninsula for a detailed case study. We conducted on-site measurements along with simulations using ENVI-met software, comparing datasets to ensure model accuracy and reliability. Through careful adjustment of simulation parameters to accurately reflect real-world conditions, we found that building layout and size have a significant effect on the Physiologically Equivalent Temperature (PET). Notably, in the unique climate of the Lingnan area, courtyard layouts demonstrably block external heat and wind, fostering a significantly more comfortable internal microclimate. This design strategy provides not only generous public space for fostering community activities and stronger social bonds, but also creates a visually appealing and cohesive aesthetic. This research seeks to improve resident comfort, optimize urban energy efficiency, and promote sustainable urban development principles. Background: One of the crises recently affecting human society is an emerging pandemic that has had a significant psychological impact on healthcare workers. Studies have shown that staff experience psychological disorders such as anxiety, depression, and insomnia when exposed to crises. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the association between health anxiety and the sleep quality of healthcare workers during crisis conditions. Methods: This cross-sectional, correlational descriptive-analytical study was conducted from late February 2019 to late March 2020. Using convenient sampling, 382 healthcare workers from medical universities in Golestan province participated in the survey. Data were collected via an internet link shared with participants through WhatsApp working groups. The instruments used in this research included demographic information, sleep quality, and health anxiety inventories. The data were analyzed using SPSS-21 with descriptive and analytical statistics. Results: Of the participants, 77.2% were women, 65.4% were single, 60.7% were nurses, and 64.4% had a bachelor's degree. The results revealed that 72.7% of the staff experienced moderate to high levels of anxiety. Regarding sleep quality, 28.3% (n = 108) of healthcare workers reported good sleep quality, while 71.7% (n = 274) reported poor sleep quality. Additionally, the results indicated a significant correlation between health anxiety scores and sleep quality scores (r = 0.129, P = 0.01). Conclusions: The results of this study showed that the critical conditions caused by emerging diseases have led to health anxiety among healthcare workers, negatively affecting their sleep quality. Purpose: The purpose of this concept delineation was to differentiate similar concepts impacting nurse well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic, including: compassion fatigue, burnout, moral injury, secondary traumatic stress, and second victim. Methods: A total of 63 articles were reviewed for concept delineation. Morse's (1995) approach to concept delineation was utilized to analyse the articles. Results: Concepts were described interchangeably but were found to present themselves in a sequence. A nurse may experience moral injury, leading to a second victim experience, synonymous with secondary traumatic stress, then compassion fatigue and/or burnout that can be acute or chronic in nature. An Occupational Trauma Conceptual Model was created to depict how these concepts interact based on concept delineation findings. Conclusion: Nurses are experiencing long-lasting occupational trauma and future intervention research should centre on optimizing nurse well-being to ensure the sustainability of nursing profession. Purpose: The library is one of the critical foundations of informing and educating the public, and it should fulfil its function in the community, which is disseminating knowledge effectively. The library must have a dynamic space and an appropriate atmosphere to do this. Also, librarians should assist clients outside of stressful work environments. This study aimed to examine the association between organizational climate and job burnout in the hospital and college libraries of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. Design/methodology/approach: This study is a cross-sectional survey. The population includes all librarians working in the college and hospital libraries of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. Two questionnaires, including organizational climate "ClimateQUAL" and job burnout "Maslach and Jackson", were applied to collect data. It was hypothesized that there is a correlation between the organizational climate and the burnout of librarians. Findings: The findings revealed that the organizational climate and job burnout are not in a favourable situation, with average scores of 4.70 and 2.50, respectively. Furthermore, there is a significant statistical relationship between organizational climate and job burnout (p-value<0.001). Originality/value: Knowledge of the significant relationship between the organizational climate and job burnout in medical libraries may encourage policymakers to make more efforts to provide their staff with a better climate and less burnout. Regarding that it is crucial to enhance the existing condition in medical libraries, the findings of the present study suggest that policymakers should be conscious of improving the current condition, which could lead to promoting patrons' satisfaction and productivity in the mentioned libraries. Objectives: This paper utilizes an ontological approach to conduct a qualitative literature review in order to investigate the emotional impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on nurses internationally. After identifying common themes in the literature review, primary research is conducted to investigate the emotional impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on nurses working in Bermuda´s only acute healthcare facility. Methods: The literature review used the FRAMEWORK approach (Richie and Spencer, 1994, as cited in Hackett et al. (2018) to select a total of 16 papers for review, each of them qualitative primary research, aside from one paper reviewing international literature. Within the second part of this paper, investigating the experience of nurses in Bermuda, a grounded theory approach was utilised to collect primary data. Convenience sampling was used to recruit subjects to participate in one-on-one semi-structured interviews. Data saturation was achieved after 9 interviews. The FRAMEWORK method was utilised to analyse the interview transcripts, and identify, organise and collate themes. Results: The literature review highlights that nurses have strong emotional responses to caring for patients during the Covid-19 pandemic. Specific responses include: higher stress levels at work due to higher, more challenging workload, and a reliance on clinical leaders to assuage this stress. Stigma experienced outside of work lead to feelings of anxiety and isolation. Despite this, there was a common theme that nurses felt a satisfaction within their role to ´play their part´ in the pandemic. The primary research conducted in Bermuda demonstrates that there was an initial fear of Covid-19, receding as the pandemic developed. Much anxiety was due to a perceived lack of knowledge about the disease, lack of a coherent strategy, and inadequate equipment to protect staff, and properly care for patients. An increased level of cooperation amongst staff, and mutual support amongst nurses was noted, as was social stigma leading to feelings of isolation and anxiety. Social interactions and holistic activities were identified as primary resources to alleviate stress and uncertainty. Conclusions: Nurses in Bermuda elicited many of the same emotional responses as their international colleagues, as a result of caring for patients during the pandemic. These manifested as a result of higher, more challenging workload, and uncertainty about preparedness plan and quickly changing situations within the working environment. Objective: Exploring the challenges experienced by the pre-hospital emergency personnel to prevent the secondary injuries and provide more effective services to children can be helpful. This study aims to explain the safety challenges of children in the pre-hospital emergencies. Methods: This qualitative study, which was conducted with the content analysis approach, was a semistructured, and in-depth data collection process with the field notes for pre-hospital emergency personnel in Dezful city in 2022. Sampling was done in a targeted and available manner. The sampling process continued until the data saturation was reached. The trustworthiness of data was improved by reviewing and revising the data, experience and expertise of the interviewer, review of research participants and researchers. The research data, including interview texts and field notes, were divided into the semantic units, and then summarized by compression, and then abstracted in the order of subclasses, main classes, and finally themes. Results: Qualitative data analysis of interviews and notes led to the extraction of eight themes, which expressed the nature of children's safety challenges in the pre-hospital emergency: the lack of pre-hospital equipment for children, physical and mental characteristics of children, the lack of safety of vehicles for children, the lack of clinical skills of personnel for children, anxiety and non-cooperation of parents, operational and legal problems, the lack of attention to professional responsibility and high work pressure in children's missions. Conclusion: This study's results showed that identifying children's safety challenges for pre-hospital emergency personnel can help better understand the care needs of this age group and help managers plan in order to reduce children's safety challenges in the pre-hospitalmissions. Background: One of the main causes of injury and death in children under 5 years of age is accidents. Lack of awareness about preventive measures against these accidents and having a belief that these accidents are inevitable are major issues in Iran. This study aims to investigate and categorize the interventions recommended for preventing accidents in children under 5 years of age. Materials and Methods: This scoping review was conducted in 2023. A search was conducted for the related studies in databases including Scopus, ISI, MEDLINE, Embase, Proquest, Cochrane Library, Emerald, MagIran, IranDoc, MoH thesis database and MoH articles database using the keywords "incident", "accident," "emergency," "injury," "disaster," "road traffic," "child," "intervention," "preparedness," and "prevention." The search was conducted on studies published in English or Persian, from 2000 to 2023. To assess the quality of the selected articles, the critical appraisal skills program (CASP) checklist was used. The data were analyzed using content analysis method in MAXQDA software, version 20. Results: The initial search yielded 1495 articles. After removing duplicates and irrelevant articles, and reading abstracts, and full texts, 41 studies (3 theses and 38 articles) were selected for the review. We produced 234 codes, 45 for interventions to prevent man-made disasters, 157 for interventions to prevent domestic accidents, 18 for interventions to prevent burn and electrical accidents and 14 for interventions to prevent traffic accidents. Conclusion: To prevent accidents in children under five years of age, there is a need for comprehensive efforts. Proper education for parents, teaching children about safe behaviors, installing appropriate safety equipment, and paying attention to the living environment of children can help reduce accidents in these children. Objective: This study aimed to understand the health of workers exposed to occupational noise and explore the influencing factors related to workers' health, especially the impact of noise on workers' hearing. This work can provide a basis for formulating relevant measures for occupational noise prevention and control in the future. Methods: On the basis of the key occupational disease monitoring project in Chongqing, China, in 2021, the data of 1125 workers exposed to occupational noise were analyzed. Data included demographic information, occupational history, clinical physical examination information, and noise detection information of the working environment. Chi-square test and multifactorial logistic regression were used for statistical analysis. Results: The prevalence rates of abnormal electrocardiogram (ECG), blood pressure (BP), and pure tone audiometry (PTA) were 21.9% (246/1125), 27.8% (313/1125), and 18.0% (202/1125), respectively. Male workers accounted for 78.8%. Compared with male workers, female workers had a lower prevalence of abnormal PTA (OR = 0.28, 95% CI = 0.16–0.50). Workers working in medium enterprises had a lower prevalence of abnormal BP than workers in micro enterprises (OR = 0.36, 95% CI = 0.19–0.66). The prevalence of abnormal BP and PTA of workers increased with age. After adjusting for age, sex, and body mass index, the prevalence of abnormal ECG of mining workers was higher than that of manufacturing workers (OR = 1.54, 95% CI = 1.07–2.24), and the prevalence of abnormal PTA had a rising trend with the increase in noise exposure value. Conclusion: Noise-exposed workers have a high prevalence of abnormal ECG, BP, and PTA, and factors such as age, enterprise size, and workplace noise exposure are correlated with the aberrant health of workers. Governments, enterprises, and individuals need to attach great importance to the possible adverse effects of noise. Background and aims: The consequences of medical errors can be severe, with even seemingly simple mistakes potentially leading to extended hospital stays, health complications, disability, or even death for one or more individuals. Consequently, this review study was conducted to elucidate the dimensions and components influencing the prediction and reduction of human error, utilizing the systematic human error prediction approach (SHERPA). Methods: This review study involved an electronic search for relevant scientific documents in both Persian and English, using keywords such as "SHERPA technique," "human error prediction," and "human errors in hospitals." A total of six studies were ultimately reviewed. Results: The results indicated that most errors in healthcare settings were related to the type of "action", while the fewest errors occurred in the category of "selection". In assessing risk severity across all studies, errors categorized as having unacceptable risk levels were the least frequent, whereas those with undesirable risk severity were the most common. Conclusion: The SHERPA technique is an effective method for identifying human errors in the medical field, as it accurately determines the causes, consequences, and risk levels associated with potential errors. Given that performance errors accounted for the highest portion of incidents and had the greatest prevalence of both unacceptable and undesirable risk, prioritizing these errors in the development of control programs is essential. Compassion fatigue is the cost of caring for others in emotional pain where the helping professional absorbs the trauma of those they help and cannot detach emotionally at the end of the day. Stressful and perceived unsupportive work environments may leave the caregiver at a heightened risk for compassion fatigue. To study the level of compassion fatigue and compassion satisfaction experienced by mental health nurses. A descriptive, cross-sectional, electronic survey design was utilized. The Professional Quality of Life Scale-5 was used. The study was conducted at a large, urban hospital that exclusively treats patients with mental health and addiction issues located in Ontario, Canada. The sample included all nurses who were listed on the hospital's Email list. All nurses who are displayed on this list are mental health nurses. Analyses were conducted to assess for differences between the characteristics and the subscales of professional quality of life. One hundred and forty-eight mental health nurses completed a questionnaire. The response rate was 21%. Seventy-six percent reported moderate levels of burnout, 59% reported moderate levels of secondary traumatic stress, and 21% reported high levels of compassion satisfaction. Predictors were seen for the characteristics of gender, ethnicity, marital status, area, exposure to violence and support felt. Compassion fatigue has clear implications. Organizations willing to invest in reducing it, have the potential to improve patient outcomes and the well-being of nurses. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic caused many challenges in healthcare. A quarantine and treatment centre was established to cope with surging a. Healthcare workers (HCWs) who were deployed here may experience burnout. This paper aims to assess the prevalence of burnout and quality of life (QOL) among the Ministry of Health Malaysia HCWs who worked in a quarantine and treatment centre in Malaysia and determine the predictive factors of burnout. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. The study population was all HCWs deployed in the quarantine centre between September 2021 and December 2021. The World Health Organization QOL Assessment (WHOQOL-BREF) and the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI) were utilised and distributed online. Result: A total of 377 responses were collected. 31.6% experienced personal burnout, 23.1% had work-related burnout, and 18.3% reported patient-related burnout. The QOL domain scores ranged from 66.7 (IQR=25) to 75.0 (IQR=33.3). Those ≥ 40 years old and served ≥6 years had significantly higher QOL than their younger counterparts. Significant predictors of personal and patient-related burnout were those <40 years old and higher education level, while the significant predictors of work-related burnout were those with 1 - 5 years of service. Conclusion: HCWs stationed in the quarantine centre during the COVID-19 pandemic experienced some burnout and lower QOL than the normal population. Younger workers with fewer years of service tend to have higher burnout and lower QOL scores. Hence, attention should be placed on these groups to receive continuous and relevant assistance. Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, some patients who were transported to the operating room for emergency surgery had COVID-19; operating room nurses should be in direct contact with these patients in a small and closed space of the operating room. This can lead to unpleasant experiences for these people. Accordingly, this study was conducted to understand the experience of operating room nurses during the surgery of COVID-19 patients. Methods: This qualitative study is a descriptive phenomenological study. Sampling was done purposefully and participants were selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data of this study was obtained through semi-structured interviews with 12 participants and analyzed using the Colaizzi method. Results: Four main themes and 13 sub-themes were presented in this study: (1) feeling heroic (being a savior, self-sacrificing). (2) Exacerbating burnout (emotional exhaustion, feeling of incompetence, physical overtiredness). (3) Psychiatric crisis (destructive anxiety, horror of death, worrying about being a carrier, drastic feeling of pity). (4) Feeling the need for support (need for professional support, need for emotional support, need for social support). Conclusion: The results of this study show that operating room nurses experienced conflicting feelings during surgery on patients with COVID-19. So the feeling of being a hero was a heartwarming experience, but the aggravation of job burnout and mental crisis was unpleasant for them. BACKGROUND: Occupational burnout is one of the most important consequences of the coronavirus disease pandemic, associated with psychological well-being, quality of care, and intention to leave the nursing profession. This is a major health problem with serious adverse consequences not only for nurses but also for patients and healthcare systems. OBJECTIVE: To assess burnout and its associated factors in nurses who worked in teaching hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic in Iran. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted on nurses of two COVID-19 referral hospitals in Tehran, Iran. Data were collected using the sociodemographic form and Maslach burnout inventory-human service survey (MBI-HSS) questionnaire. Data were evaluated using SPSS software version 26. RESULTS: A total of 264 participants, 52.7% (n = 139) were males and the mean of them age was 34.41±9.71 years. Almost 50% of nurses experienced burnout, in each dimension. Emotional exhaustion was associated significantly with job retention intention (P = 0.01) and depersonalization was significantly associated with gender (P = 0.02), age (P = 0.01), educational level (P = 0.004), work shifts (P = 0.006), and job retention intention (P = 0.02). In addition, personal accomplishment score was significantly associated with age (P = 0.002), marital status (P = 0.03), educational level (P = 0.03), work shift (P = 0.04) and job retention intention (P = 0.01). CONCLUSION: The burnout rate in the COVID-19 era is high among nurses associated with improper care. Psychosocial support is needed to improve mental well-being among health care workers during unpredictable conditions like pandemics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Occupational stress affects health professionals; however, no literature was found on the middle-range theory for this outcome in health professionals. Methods: Methodological study for the theoretical validation of a nursing diagnosis using the theoretical framework of Walker and Avant and the Betty Neuman systems models. The research was conducted in five stages: comprehension of the system model; selection and review of studies; development of the conceptual–theoretical–empirical structure; elaboration of a diagram and proposition of a nursing diagnosis; and evaluation of the empirical adequacy of the theory and validity of the system model. These steps were conducted using a scoping review and a sample of 138 articles selected in the Scopus, Web of Science, MEDLINE/PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, LILACS, Science Direct, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar databases. A data extraction instrument was developed, and study variables (attributes, antecedents, and clinical consequences) were analyzed using descriptive statistics (absolute and relative frequencies) and presented in tables. Results: The middle-range theory comprised 16 concepts, 20 propositions, and one diagram. A total of 15 related factors, 29 defining characteristics, six at-risk populations, and one associated condition were indicated to propose the nursing diagnosis for occupational stress. Aim: To investigate the association between paramedics' salutogenic health and their intentions to stay in their profession. Design: A cross‐sectional survey. Methods: Paramedics from eight purposively selected organizations participated in this study (n = 433). The data were collected in 2022 with the Salutogenic Health Indicator Scale and validated single questions that assessed work ability, recovery and self‐rated stress. Intention to stay was measured using two questions about the intention to leave prehospital emergency medical service work and leave the nursing sector completely during the next 2 years. Data were analysed using logistic regression and statistical significance tests. Results: Men had higher mean salutogenic health scores than women. No significant differences in salutogenic health were observed across work experience or occupational groups. Paramedics intending to stay in their profession exhibited higher salutogenic health scores than those intending to leave. In the logistic regression models, increasing levels of salutogenic health and work ability were associated with intention to stay in the profession. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, a user thermal comfort criterion based on predicted mean vote (PMV) values is introduced to realize the optimal operation of an improved energy hub (IEH) while considering thermal inertia and user thermal behavior. A three-layer optimization model based on user thermal comfort is constructed which fully considers user thermal comfort demand, IEH operating costs, and energy network constraints. Moreover, since IEH optimization considering user thermal comfort is a multi-objective bilevel optimization (MNBO) problem, this paper proposes an improved multilayer nested quantum genetic algorithm (IMNQGA) to solve it. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed optimization model and algorithm is verified through the analysis of the four modes. The examples show that the proposed optimal control method can reduce the system's operating costs and improve energy efficiency while satisfying user thermal comfort demand. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Heat waves are increasingly frequent in Europe, especially in South European countries during the summer season. The intensity and frequency of these heat waves have increased significantly in recent years. Spain, as one of the southern European countries most affected by these recurring heat waves, particularly experiences this phenomenon in touristic cities such as Cordoba. The aim of this study was to perform an experimental assessment of outdoor thermal comfort in a typical three-hour tourist walkable path of the historical center of Cordoba. The experimental study was carried out in the three-hour period of higher temperatures from 16:30 to 19:30 h CEST (UTC+2) on a normal summer day (6 July 2023), a day with a heat wave (28 June 2023) and a day with a higher heat intensity, called a super heat wave (10 August 2023). Environmental conditions such as a radiant temperature, ambient temperature, wet bulb temperature, air velocity and relative humidity were measured at three different heights corresponding to 0.1 (ankles), 0.7 (abdomen) and 1.7 (head) m. The results show extremely high levels of heat stress in all bioclimatic indices throughout the route. Cumulative heat stress ranged from "very hot" conditions at the beginning of the route to becoming "highly sweltering" at the end of the route. The average temperature excess over the thermal comfort threshold was very high and increased with the heat intensity. In addition, a correlation analysis was carried out between the bioclimatic indices studied, with the UTCI index standing out for its strong correlation with other thermal comfort indices. The findings emphasize the need for interventions to improve the urban environment and promote better outdoor thermal comfort for city dwellers through measures such as green infrastructure, UHI mitigation and increasing public awareness. Introduction. It has been a long time since the emergence of COVID -19 in China and its spread worldwide. Vaccines are a promising solution to overcome COVID -19 infection. Still, vaccine hesitancy is the only barrier to controlling the pandemic, as thinking about its side effects induces psychological exhaustion. There is still a lack of research targeting the mental health of Physical Therapists (PTs), especially during the late stage of the COVID -19 pandemic, so the study's main aim was to identify the prevalence of anxiety, depression and insomnia and identify risk factors that influence anxiety and depression. Methods. A cross-sectional online survey via anonymous questionnaires and questions about socio-demographic information was launched on social media in the second half of February 2021. Results. Prevalence of anxiety, depression, and insomnia was 42.7%, 50.10%, and 89.30%, respectively, among physical therapists. Common factors that induce anxiety and depression were having children and needing psychological support. Other risk factors for anxiety only were working in a quarantine hospital, being infected with COVID -19, self-isolation after return from the hospital, and hesitance about vaccine effectiveness. Treating COVID -19 patients and having a family member who had died from COVID -19 were risk factors for depression. Consulting a psychiatrist reduced this risk of depression. Conclusions. Elevated mental health disturbances triggered the alarm for urgent psychological rehabilitation to prevent the failure of health care systems in this critical period. Background: Nurses play an essential role in responding to severe viral disease which bring considerable challenges to their personal and professional well‐being. This subsequently can affect the delivery of care and healthcare systems' organisational capacity to respond. Understanding nurses' experiences of these challenges will help inform healthcare policies. Aim: To explore the experiences and coping strategies of nurses caring for patients during severe viral disease pandemics. Design: A mixed‐methods systematic review informed by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology. Methods: A mixed‐methods systematic review. Five electronic databases Medline, CINAHL, PsychInfo, ASSIA and Scopus were searched on 4th April 2021. Results were reported in accordance with PRISMA. The findings were analysed and reported in the context of the Self‐Regulatory Common‐Sense Model. Results: In total, 71 peer‐review primary research articles describing nurses' experiences of caring for patients during SARS, MERS, Swine flu H1N1, Avian influenza or SARS‐CoV‐2 / COVID‐19 published in English from 2003 to 2021 were included. We found links between nurses' perception of the health threats, their emotional reactions, and coping strategies. Perceived health threats were influenced by organisational factors including frequent changes in clinical guidelines and workplace protocols, onerous workloads and working hours, unavailability of PPE, and lack of knowledge and training in pandemic management. These impacted nurses' physical, psychological and social well‐being. Nurses also reported helpful and unhelpful coping strategies to manage the health threats. Conclusions: It is vital for stakeholders, policymakers, government and healthcare institutions to recognise and monitor the wider impact on healthcare workers from health emergencies. In addition, support to develop and implement effective systems and individual mechanisms to offset the anticipated impact pre and post pandemics/epidemics is needed. Our findings can inform those strategies for similar future health emergencies. Relevance to Clinical Practice: Nurses are often the first point of contact in providing direct care to patients, hence they are at high risk of being infected. The findings from this review can help managers and policymakers in developing programmes to enhance resilience in the nursing workforce. Aims: To examine the level of resilience and burnout among British nurses during the second wave of the COVID‐19 pandemic and the influence of personal, social and organisational factors on nurses' resilience and burnout. Background: Nurses experienced excessive workload and emotional demands over a prolonged period during the COVID‐19 pandemic which may have led to exhaustion. Little research has examined the correlation between the pandemic variables, nurses' resilience and burnout during the second wave of the COVID‐19 pandemic. Design: This study utilised a descriptive, cross‐sectional research design. Methods: A cross‐sectional and self‐report survey involved 111 staff nurses, who completed a self‐administrated questionnaire between January and April 2021. A STORBE checklist was used to report the study results. Findings: The study found that nurses experienced a high level of burnout and low to moderate levels of resilience. The study revealed significant negative relationships between the level of burnout and perceived organisational support and nurses' resilience. The impact of the COVID‐19 pandemic on nurses' social roles and their worries about patient safety were positively correlated with burnout. The perceived organisational support, the impact of the COVID‐19 pandemic on nurses' social roles and the level of resilience were significant factors for burnout. Conclusions: Nurses experienced a high level of burnout during the second wave of the COVID‐19 pandemic, which may be influenced by how they felt their organisations supported them. Nurses' feelings that the pandemic affected their social roles were associated with increasing their burnout. Relevance to Clinical Practice: Strategies should be developed to address staff burnout and resilience. Nurse managers and educators should play leadership roles in creating professional training to include competencies and psychological preparedness for disasters and to implement strategies to increase the organisational commitments to staff safety and well‐being. Background: With its abrupt and huge health and socio-economic consequences, the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has led to a uniquely demanding, intensely stressful, and even traumatic period. Healthcare workers (HCW), especially nurses, were exposed to mental health challenges during those challenging times. Objectives: Review the current literature on mental health problems among nurses caring for COVID-19 patients. Methods: This is a narrative review and critical evaluation of relevant publications. Results: Nurses experienced higher levels of stress, burnout, anxiety, depression, frustration, stigma, and depersonalization compared to other HCW. Factors that increased this symptomatology included concerns about infection or infection of family members, inadequate staff protective equipment, extended working hours, insufficient information, a reduced sense of security, and post-traumatic stress disorder. The factors that improved the psychopathology included a general positive attitude, job satisfaction, adequate information and education, harmonious group relationships, post-traumatic development, emotional intelligence, psychological counseling, mindfulness-based stress reduction, stable leadership, guidance, and moral and practical administrative support. Conclusions: Recent studies clearly show that nurses, especially women, are the most vulnerable subgroup among HCW and are particularly prone to mental health impacts during the COVID-19 pandemic. The documented mental health vulnerability of frontline nursing staff during the COVID-19 pandemic requires preventive nursing management actions to increase resilience and to develop relevant defense mechanisms. Due to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, healthcare workers worldwide faced major challenges in the form of psychological stress. The aim of this systematic literature review and meta-analysis is to identify mental health consequences and associated work-related factors in healthcare workers during a pandemic and to quantify the influence of associated work-related factors on mental health consequences. A systematic literature search according to PRISMA was conducted on 5 August 2021 using the databases PubMed Central and APA PsychInfo. The included studies investigated the mental health consequences and associated work-related factors in healthcare workers in a pandemic. In addition, we performed a risk of bias analysis to assess the study quality of the included studies using the JBI checklists. Random-effect models and pooled effect estimators were used for the meta-analysis. The Chi2 and I2 statistics were used to identify the statistical heterogeneity. Additional sensitivity analysis was performed. From a total of 3,910 publications, 43 studies met the inclusion criteria. These studies provided 15 stress consequences and 20 stress factors. The most frequently reported stress factors were 'contact with COVID-19 patients', 'no education or training in handling infectious diseases' and 'insufficient protective equipment'. Anxiety, stress, and depression were the most common outcomes identified. Analyses showed an increase in anxiety scores among HCWs who cared for COVID-19 patients, as well as a rise in depressive symptoms due to inadequate or no personal protective equipment. In this review, various pandemic-associated stress factors and stress consequences of healthcare workers were observed. During the COVID-19 pandemic, health workers' workload is increasing, with the risk of burnout. Several instruments for assessing burnout have been developed since the concept was coined in the 1970s. It is important to map and describe the application of burnout instruments for health workers in the current COVID-19 pandemic situation. This article aimed to map and describe what instruments are used and variations of their application to research burnout in health workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. This scoping review searched articles systematically through 7 databases (PubMed, Clinical Key, Scopus, EBSCOhost, APA PsycINFO, Science Direct, and Wiley Online Library). Articles were screened and analyzed following the Arksey and O'Malley framework. From 507 results, 31 peer-reviewed articles were selected. These studies involved 33,879 participants from various health professions. Generally, the research instrument is still dominated by Maslach Burnout Inventory. Applications of burnout measurements vary widely because there is no consensus on the concept of burnout assessment. Inconsistency in burnout-measuring tools can be seen as providing flexibility and alternatives, but at the same time, it is a gap that challenges researchers to develop more comprehensive instruments, especially for the burnout phenomenon in health workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. BACKGROUND: Nurses, as the largest working group in the hospital, experience many problems, conflicts, and stressors in the workplace and family especially after the widespread distribution of coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19). OBJECTIVE: The perceived conflict and burnout among nurses, as well as the correlation between these two variables and the associated factors, were the main subjects of this study. METHODS: This cross-sectional study involved 256 nurses from three COVID-19 referral hospitals in northwest Iran. Participants completed demographic, work-family conflict (WFC), and burnout questionnaires. The nonparametric tests including Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis, and Spearman correlation coefficient were applied to statistical analysis. RESULTS: The overall score of conflict was 55.3 (12.7). The time dimension received the highest score 11.4 (2.9). In terms of intensity 27.6 (8.7) and frequency 27.6(8.8), nurses had the most burnout in the lack of personal accomplishment dimension. All aspects of WFC, emotional exhaustion, and depersonalization characteristics of burnout had statistically significant positive correlations (p < 0.01). The ward, hospital and employment status variables were associated with WFC (p < 0.05). The association between taking the crisis management course and the severity of depersonalization, and the frequency of lack of personal accomplishment was confirmed (p < 0.01). Additionally, the frequency and severity of emotional exhaustion were associated with employment status and work experiences (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The findings showed that nurses had WFC and burnout rates that were above average. Regarding the negative effects of these two phenomena on health, and also nurse's clinical practices, rearranging work conditions and providing better organizational support seem necessary. This present study examines how work overload affects cybersecurity behavior, considering job stress as a mediator and corporate ethics as a moderator. Using a time-lagged survey design, 377 South Korean employees were surveyed. The results of SEM analysis (structural equation model) show that work overload leads to higher job stress, which in turn worsens cybersecurity behavior. High levels of corporate ethics buffer this negative relationship. This research fill gaps in the existing literature by linking work overload, job stress, and corporate ethics to cybersecurity behavior, offering valuable insights for both theory and practice. INTRODUCTION: Working through the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed Health Care Workers to physical and psychological risks that can result in a broad range of mental health problems, including burnout. The aim of the present study was to investigate factors affecting burnout in Iranian Health Care Workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Identifying the principal factors affecting burnout will assist efforts to prepare for, and, prevent harm, to staff participating in future healthcare emergencies. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A systematic review of scientific literature using the PRISMA guideline was completed, and included literature published from January 2020 until December 2021. The articles related to burnout in Iranian Health Care Workers during COVID-19 were obtained through Google Scholar, SID, Magiran Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science databases using related keywords. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the obtained data. RESULTS: 203 articles were identified through an initial search and finally, 14 studies were entered into the analysis. Based on the literature review, the principal factors affecting burnout were divided into 2 main themes and 4 subthemes. The themes included human factors, and organizational factors, and the subthemes included individual characteristics, psychosocial factors, occupational conditions, and training. CONCLUSIONS: Individual and psychosocial characteristics have important effects on burnout among Health Care Workers and this can cause negative flow-on effects on the quality of life of these workers, and the quality of medical services. The prevalence of burnout is relatively higher among medical practitioners and nurses, and it is important to enhance coping resources and health education activities that support the resilience of these clinicians in the challenging and stressful context of a pandemic. Background: Burnout prevalence and its consequences on healthcare workers during the Omicron wave are not well investigated in Sudan. This study aims to assess the prevalence of burnout and its associated factors among doctors and nurses during the omicron wave in COVID-19 isolation centres in Khartoum, Sudan. Method: This cross-sectional survey study was conducted at multiple COVID-19 isolation centres in Khartoum state during the omicron wave of Coronavirus Disease 2019 between 20th February 2022 and 10th April 2022. A total of 306 doctors and nurses filled out the questionnaire, with a response rate of 64.8℅. They were recruited from 5 isolation centers scattered in the three cities of Khartoum Metropolis. The level of burnout was assessed using an online semi-structured questionnaire based on the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used for continuous variables and frequencies with percentages for categorical variables. The Chi-square test and Fisher exact test were used to identify variables associated with burnout. Logistic regression was used to determine the factors associated with burnout, and the p-value of ≤.05 is considered statistically significant. Results: The prevalence of burnout was 45.7%. Doctors were more likely to have burnout than nurses (OR: 2.01, CI 95% 1.24–3.27; p = 0.005). Also, married healthcare workers were more likely to suffer burnout than single healthcare workers (OR: 3.89, CI 95% 1.41–12.5; P = 0.013). The number of household members (p = 0.035) was associated with burnout among participants. Conclusion: There is a high prevalence of burnout among healthcare workers in Khartoum Isolation Centers, which is more apparent among doctors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Medical errors are numerous in medical activities. Considering the sensitivity and importance of the medical group's professions, the emergence of an apparently simple error can cause the death of an individual or even a group of individuals. The present study aims the evaluation and reduction of human error using a system human error reduction and prediction approach System Human Error Reduction and Prediction Approach (SHERPA) in the nurses of Baqiyatallah hospital's chemotherapy ward in 2019. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in the chemotherapy ward using the SHERPA technique. Then, the duties were determined in detail using Hierarchical Task Analysis (HTA). The errors were identified using the SHERPA checklist, and the risk outcomes and intensities were finally evaluated. Results: Based on the study findings, there are 109 possible errors for 48 sub-duties. The most frequent errors fall in the functional area (54%) and the least frequent errors pertain to the area of selection (3%). Conclusions: In order to reduce the errors and increase the quality of the services and safety of the patients, errors can be identified by using the SHERPA technique; after identifying these errors, using this technique, it is possible to prevent the recurrence of the identified errors by careful planning. Considering the fact that the most frequent error was found in the functional domain, modern protocols can be codified in this area, and standards can be observed for putting the problems of this section atop of the priority list and reducing the errors and increasing safety of the patients. Introduction: Exposure to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has caused many physical and psychological effects on front-line healthcare workers (HCWs). This study aimed to assess the relationship between the exposure risk to COVID-19 disease and burnout in prehospital emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Methods: In this correlational study, 335 prehospital EMTs were selected by random sampling method from the 49 stations of emergency medical services in the northwest of Iran. Data were collected using a questionnaire developed by the world health organization for the risk assessment and management of exposure of health care workers to COVID-19. Moreover, Pines burnout measure was used for the assessment of participants' burnout. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 13. Results: Results showed that 30.7 % of prehospital EMTs had a high burnout score against COVID-19 disease. The prehospital EMTs who had a high occupational exposure risk experienced a high risk of burnout (P = 0.03). The results of the linear regression analysis showed that prehospital EMTs who had a low exposure risk of COVID-19 had a low burnout score (β = -9.30; P < 0.001), and those who had less than 10 years of work experience showed less burnout (β = -10.54; P < 0.001). Conclusion: According to the results, the exposure risk to COVID-19 increases the prehospital EMT's burnout. As a result, reducing the exposure risk to COVID-19 by providing adequate access to personal protective equipment (PPE), development of training and following standards and protocols can be effective in controlling burnout in HCWs. The main objective of this study is to know the current state of thermal discomfort and its changes in the coming decades in one of the semi-arid climates of Iran. This study is very important considering the importance and direct impact of climate change and global warming on human health and can help adopt preventive policies to face them properly. Thermal discomfort changes were assessed by the temperature-humid index (THI) and effective temperature (ET) in Arak City as a representative of the semi-arid climate of Iran. The modeling was done using the CanESM2 general circulation model. The statistical downscaling model (SDSM) software was used to downscale the model data in the period of 2011 to 2099 with three different scenarios of optimistic (RCP 2.6), intermediate (RCP 4.5), and pessimistic (RCP 8.5). The results showed that based on all three scenarios, the values of THI in January, February, and May in the coming decades will be higher than the base values (1976–2005), which will indicate an increase in thermal discomfort in these months. The pattern of changes based on the ET index was almost similar to the THI except in the optimistic scenario in all periods. In this scenario, there is a slight downward trend from 8.1% in the base period to 1.9%, 4.3%, and 3.7% in the decades 2011 to 2040, 2041 to 2070, and 2071 to 2099, respectively. In general, the increasing temperature in the study area based on all three scenarios will cause major changes in thermal comfort, so that thermal discomfort increases not only in hot seasons, but also in other seasons. BACKGROUND: As a result of the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, compliance with isolation measures has become challenging. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the individual workload perception and compliance with isolation measures of nurses working in the emergency service and critical care unit during the COVID-19 outbreak. METHODS: This descriptive correlational study was carried out in the emergency service and critical care unit of a public hospital between April 20 and May 20, 2021. A total of 153 nurses working in the emergency service and critical care unit who agreed to participate in the study were included in the study. RESULTS: Nurses from a state hospital's emergency department and critical care unit (n = 153) were included in the study sample. The impression of overall individual workload by nurses and compliance with isolation (r = 0.153; p < 0.05) had a positive, weak, and significant relationship. The Isolation Measures Compliance Scale resulted in a mean score of 70.70±5.35. The mean score on the Individual Workload Scale for nurses was moderate (3.22±0.54). CONCLUSION: The low perception of individual workload of nurses working in the emergency service and critical care unit during the COVID-19 pandemic increased the compliance with isolation measures. The aims of this study were to investigate the prevalence and influencing factors of irritable bowel syndrome among nurses in order to update the epidemiological data. A questionnaire survey was administered to 1,325 clinical nurses. We used a questionnaire for demographic information, the IBS Severity Scoring System, the IBS Quality of Life questionnaire, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory to conduct our survey. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to detect factors influencing irritable bowel syndrome among nurses. The prevalence of irritable bowel syndrome was 13.3%, and the severity of symptoms was mostly moderate. The IBS Quality of Life score was significantly reduced (p < .001). Various foods that caused abdominal pain (egg and dairy products [OR = 4.80], greasy food [OR = 5.80], spicy food [OR = 2.66], raw and cold food [OR = 2.43]), a family history of gastrointestinal diseases (OR = 1.64, 95% CI [1.038, 2.587]), drinking weak green tea (OR = 1.71, 95% CI [1.143, 2.552]), mild depression (OR = 1.78, 95% CI [1.005, 3.156]), and the personal accomplishment dimension of occupational burnout (OR = 2.52, 95% CI [1.039, 6.114]) had important effects on nurses suffering from irritable bowel syndrome. On the contrary, exercising 1-2 hours per week (OR = 0.53, 95% CI [0.327, 0.859]) had a protective effect.
