Background: Ameloblastoma is the most prevalent odontogenic tumor of the jaw, with a significant recurrence rate. It was conventionally classified radiographically as unilocular or multilocular. As 3D images become more common, there is a need to reassess this classification. This study aimed to conduct a multi-planar assessment of ameloblastoma using CT images, reclassify the lesions based on locularity, and correlate the locularity with imaging characteristics and recurrence., Methods: Panoramic radiographs and CT images of histopathologically confirmed 255 ameloblastoma patients were included. The analysis encompassed imaging features including locularity, expansion, thinning, cortical perforation, and root resorption. Image characteristics associated with recurrence rate were examined, and image features were assessed based on locularity., Results: On panoramic radiographs, most ameloblastomas (68.6%) were classified as multilocular, while 31.4% were unilocular. The CT scan demonstrated that 46.3% of the ameloblastomas were pseudo-multilocular, 29.4% were unilocular, and 24.3% were multilocular. Multilocular cases on panoramic radiographs often appeared as pseudo-multilocular on CT. Cortical perforation, root resorption, and size were significantly correlated with CT locularity types (p < 0.05). The recurrence rate was 14.11%, and the risk of recurrence was substantially reduced by mandibulectomy and a larger tumor size. No other variables were significantly related to recurrence., Conclusion: An accurate diagnosis of ameloblastoma and surgical planning to reduce the recurrence rate are contingent upon the use of three-dimensional imaging modalities, such as CT., Competing Interests: Declarations. Chlorinated ethenes are prevalent contaminants in industrial wastewater that detrimentally affect human health. As elevated tetrachloroethene (PCE) concentrations (18.0-18.7 mg/L) have been observed in the groundwater of an industrial area near the ocean in Incheon, South Korea, effective remedies are required to degrade these contaminants. However, the effects of saline-fresh water mixing on microbial biodegradation and contaminant attenuation are not well known. To characterize the groundwater contamination and in situ biodegradation during salt water intrusion mixing dynamics, compound-specific isotope analysis (CSIA) data combined with hydrogeochemical and microbial data were employed to delineate the contaminant sources and the degradation processes of chlorinated ethenes in groundwater near the sea. The presence of degradation by-products indicated the occurrence of biodegradation. The highest PCE concentration (18.7 mg/L) and the most depleted δ 13 C (-28.7 ‰) and δ 37 Cl (-1.2 ‰) in PCE were observed in groundwater at well NDMW-13, revealing a potential source of contamination. Slightly enriched δ 13 C (-26.2 to -25.0 ‰) in PCE compared with that of source zone (-28.7 to -26.0 ‰) and organohalide-respiring bacteria (OHRB), as well as chlorinated ethene degraders, were observed in other wells (NDMW-9, NDMW-10, NDMW-11, and NDMW-12), providing confirmatory evidence for the biodegradation of chlorinated ethenes. The CSIA and microbial data results indicate only a minor amount of natural attenuation in the source zone area. Chlorinated ethenes in the plume boundary zone are close to the sea and affected by saline-fresh water mixing; therefore, the microbial community structures slightly differ from those in the source zone. Conventional chemotherapy- and radiotherapy-induced cancer senescence, which is characterized by poor proliferation, drug resistance, and senescence-associated secretory phenotype, has gained attention as contributing to cancer relapse and the development of an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. However, the association between cancer senescence and anti-tumor immunity is not fully understood. Here, we demonstrate that senescent cancer cells increase the level of PD-L1 by promoting its transcription and glycosylation. We identify ribophorin 1 as a key regulator of PD-L1 glycosylation during cancer senescence. Ribophorin 1 depletion reduces this elevated level of PD-L1 through the ER-lysosome-associated degradation pathway, thereby increasing the susceptibility of senescent cancer cells to T-cell-mediated killing. Consistently, ribophorin 1 depletion suppresses tumor growth by decreasing PD-L1 levels and boosting cytotoxic T lymphocyte activity in male mice. Moreover, ribophorin 1-targeted or anti-PD-1 therapy reduces the number of senescent cancer cells in irradiated tumors and suppresses cancer recurrence through the activation of cytotoxic T lymphocytes. These results provide crucial insights into how senescent cancer cells can escape T-cell immunity following cancer treatment and thereby contribute to cancer recurrence. Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a lethal malignancy with limited therapeutic options. Cisplatin is a primary chemotherapeutic agent utilized in combination with other drugs or radiotherapy for PDAC treatment. However, the severe side effects of cisplatin often necessitate discontinuation of therapy and drug resistance in tumor cells poses significant clinical challenges. Therefore, the development of effective therapeutic strategies is imperative. The present study investigated whether repositioning of the antipsychotic drug aripiprazole could sensitize the anticancer activity of cisplatin in pancreatic cancer at doses calculated by the combination index. The findings indicated that aripiprazole combined with cisplatin to suppress pancreatic cancer cell growth. Notably, the combination notably increased the expression of apoptosis markers, including cleaved caspase‑3, compared with cisplatin alone. Additionally, this combination effectively decreased XIAP and MCL‑1 expression via mitochondrial membrane potential change as revealed by JC‑1 assay, thereby inducing apoptosis. Furthermore, in fluid shear stress assay, the combination of aripiprazole and cisplatin notably inhibited cell adhesion and tumor spheroid formation. Mechanistically, phospho‑kinase array profiles showed that the enhanced anticancer efficacy of the combination treatment could be attributed to the inhibition of STAT3 signaling, which led to a significant reduction in tumor growth in a pancreatic cancer animal model. The results showed that the repositioning of aripiprazole inhibits cancer cell growth by blocking the STAT3 signaling pathway and effectively enhancing cisplatin‑induced apoptosis, thereby suggesting that the combination of aripiprazole and cisplatin may be a potent chemotherapeutic strategy for the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

Objectives: This study aimed to harmonize panoramic radiograph images from different equipment in a single institution to display similar styles., Methods: A total of 15,624 panoramic images were acquired using two different equipment: 8079 images from Rayscan Alpha Plus (R-unit) and 7545 images from Pax-i plus (P-unit). Among these, 222 image pairs (444 images) from the same patients comprised the test dataset to harmonize the P-unit images with the R-unit image style using CycleGAN. Objective evaluations included Frechet Inception Distance (FID) and Learned Perceptual Image Patch Similarity (LPIPS) assessments. Additionally, expert evaluation was conducted by two oral and maxillofacial radiologists on transformed P-unit and R-unit images. The statistical analysis of LPIPS employed a Student's t-test., Results: The FID and mean LPIPS values of the transformed P-unit images (7.362, 0.488) were lower than those of the original P-unit images (8.380, 0.519), with a significant difference in LPIPS (p < 0.05). The experts evaluated 43.3-46.7% of the transformed P-unit images as R-unit images, 20.0-28.3% as P-units, and 28.3-33.3% as undetermined images., Conclusions: CycleGAN has the potential to harmonize panoramic radiograph image styles. The structural modification of hole-transporting materials (HTMs) is an effective strategy for enhancing photovoltaic performance in perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, a series of dithienopyran (DTP)-based HTMs (Me-H, Ph-H, CF3-H, CF3-mF, and CF3-oF) is designed and synthesized by substituting different functional groups on the DTP unit and are used fabricating PSCs. In comparison with Me-H having two methyl substituents on the dithienopyrano ring, the Ph-H having two phenyl substituents on the ring exhibits higher PCEs. Notably, the incorporation of trifluoromethyl groups in CF3-H endows the molecule with a larger dipole moment, deeper HOMO energy level, better film morphology, closer molecular stacking, more efficient defect-passivation, enhanced hydrophobicity, and better photovoltaic performance when compared with the Ph-H counterpart. Furthermore, the HTMs of CF3-mF and CF3-oF, which feature fluorine-substituted triphenylamine, demonstrated excellent film-forming properties, more suitable energy levels, enhanced charge mobility, and improved passivation of the buried interface between HTMs and perovskite. As a result, PSCs employing CF3-mF and CF3-oF gave impressive PCEs of 23.41 and 24.13%, respectively. In addition, the large-area (1.00 cm 2 ) PSCs based on CF3-oF achieved a PCE of 22.31%. Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) exhibits an altered metabolic profile compared to normal pancreatic tissue. However, studies on actual pancreatic tissues are limited. Untargeted metabolomics analysis was conducted on 54 pairs of tumor and matched normal tissues. Taurine levels were validated via immunohistochemistry (IHC) on separate PDAC and normal tissues. Bioinformatics analysis of transcriptomics and proteomics data evaluated genes associated with taurine metabolism. Identified taurine-associated gene was validated through gene modulation. Clinical implications were evaluated using patient data. Metabolomics analysis showed a 2.51-fold increase in taurine in PDAC compared to normal tissues (n=54). IHC confirmed this in independent samples (n=99 PDAC, 19 normal). Bioinformatics identified 2-aminoethanethiol dioxygenase (ADO) as a key gene modulating taurine metabolism. IHC on a tissue microarray (39 PDAC, 10 normal) confirmed elevated ADO in PDAC. The ADO-Taurine axis correlated with PDAC recurrence and disease-free survival. ADO knockdown reduced cancer cell proliferation and tumor growth in a mouse xenograft model. The MEK-related signaling pathway is suggested to be modulated by ADO-Taurine metabolism. Our multi-omics investigation revealed elevated taurine synthesis mediated by ADO upregulation in PDAC. The ADO-Taurine axis may serve as a biomarker for PDAC prognosis and a therapeutic target.

Using the e^{+}e^{-} collision data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, at center-of-mass energies from the threshold to 4.95 GeV, we present precise measurements of the cross section for the process e^{+}e^{-}→D&#95;{s}^{+}D&#95;{s}^{-} using a single-tag method. The resulting cross section line shape exhibits several new structures, thereby offering an input for a future coupled-channel analysis and model tests, which are critical to understand vector charmonium-like states with masses between 4 and 5 GeV.

Background : Accurate determination of the natural head position (NHP) is essential in orthognathic surgery for optimal surgical planning and improved patient outcomes. However, traditional methods encounter reproducibility issues and rely on external devices or patient cooperation, potentially leading to inaccuracies in the surgical plan. Methods : To address these limitations, we developed a geometric deep learning network (NHP-Net) to automatically reproduce NHP from CT scans. A dataset of 150 orthognathic surgery patients was utilized. Three-dimensional skull meshes were converted into point clouds and normalized to fit within a unit sphere. NHP-Net was trained to predict a 3 × 3 rotation matrix to align the CT-acquired posture with the NHP. Experiments were conducted to determine optimal point cloud sizes and loss functions. Performance was evaluated using mean absolute error (MAE) for roll, pitch, and yaw angles, as well as a rotation error (RE) metric. Results : NHP-Net achieved the lowest RE of 1.918° ± 1.099° and demonstrated significantly lower MAEs in roll and pitch angles compared to other deep learning models ( p < 0.05). These findings indicate that NHP-Net can accurately align CT-acquired postures to the NHP, enhancing the precision of surgical planning. Conclusions : By effectively improving the accuracy and efficiency of NHP reproduction, NHP-Net reduces the workload of surgeons, supports more precise orthognathic surgical interventions, and ultimately contributes to better patient outcomes.

In this paper, a sub-1dB Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) with several gain modes, including amplification and attenuation modes required for the fifth and fourth generations (5G/4G) of mobile network applications, is proposed. Its current consumption is adaptive for every gain mode and varies to lower currents for lower amplifications due to the importance of current consumption for mobile network applications. The proposed LNA features an innovative architecture with a three-core input structure supporting multi-gain modes, achieving high gain and ultra-low noise performance. Additionally, the design integrates a cascade switching mechanism to ensure fast transitions between the gain modes and maintain operational stability. A reconfigurable input structure is introduced to support multiple input stages, enabling the proposed LNA to be compatible with both 5G and 4G applications. The proposed design demonstrates the implementation of seven distinct gain modes with a maximum current consumption of 11.68 mA, achieving proper input matching in each gain mode. The LNA delivers a maximum gain of 20.4 dB with a noise figure of 0.73 dB. Moreover, the most stringent mode switching condition achieved, the ON time, is as short as 1.295 µs, and the gain mode transition speed is an impressive 0.874 µs, ensuring extremely fast mode transitions. Associations were examined between sociodemographic characteristics of a US online survey sample of caregiver/adolescent dyads ( n  = 533) and food intake during independent eating occasions. Caregivers reported sociodemographic characteristics for dyads. Adolescents reported daily intake frequency of sugar-sweetened beverages, junk foods, sugary foods, fast food, and fruits and vegetables during independent eating occasions. Logistic regression analysis showed increased odds of sugar-sweetened beverage intake by White vs. Asian counterparts, decreased odds of sugary food intake by age (12 vs. 11-year-olds) and increased odds of sugary food intake by weight status (overweight/obesity vs. normal weight). Understanding these relationships may inform future intervention development.

We report the precise measurements of the cross section of e^{+}e^{-}→hadrons at center-of-mass energies from 3.645 to 3.871 GeV. We thereby perform the most precise study of the cross sections and find a complex system composed of three resonances of R(3760), R(3780), and R(3810). For the first time, we measure the R(3810) electronic width to be (19.4±7.4±12.1)  eV. For the R(3760) resonance, we measure the mass to be (3751.9±3.8±2.8)  MeV/c^{2}, the total width to be (32.8±5.8±8.7)  MeV, and the electronic width to be (184±75±86)  eV. For the R(3780) resonance, we measure its mass to be (3778.7±0.5±0.3)  MeV/c^{2}, total width to be (20.3±0.8±1.7)  MeV, and electronic width to be (265±67±83)  eV. Forty-seven years ago, the ψ(3770) resonance was discovered, and was subsequently interpreted as the 1^{3}D&#95;{1}-wave dominant state of charmonium. However, our analysis of the total-hadron cross sections indicates that the ψ(3770) is not a single state, but a complex system composed of the R(3760), R(3780), and R(3810) resonances. Among these, we interpret the R(3780) is a resonance dominated by the 1^{3}D&#95;{1} charmonium state.

Introduction and Objectives: The short-term mortality of severe alcoholic-associated hepatitis (SAH) is high, but there are no effective treatments to improve short-term mortality other than corticosteroids. This study investigated the effects of adding rifaximin to standard treatment in patients with SAH., Material and Methods: In this randomized controlled open-label trial, patients with SAH (Maddrey's discriminant function≥32) were randomized to the rifaximin or control group. Patients were simultaneously treated with corticosteroid or pentoxifylline as standard treatment for 4 weeks. Randomization was stratified by SAH treatment., Results: A total of 50 patients were enrolled in this study (29 in the control group and 21 in the rifaximin group). The mean Model for End-stage Liver Disease (MELD) scores were 24.4 and 27.5 in the control and rifaximin groups, respectively (P = 0.106). There were no significant differences in 6-month Liver Transplantation (LT)-free survival rate between the two groups (P = 0.502). When stratified by SAH treatment, there was no significant difference in 6-month LT-free survival rate between the control and rifaximin treatment groups (P = 0.186 in the corticosteroid group and P = 0.548 in the pentoxifylline group). There were no significant differences in the occurrence of liver-related complications between the two groups (all Ps>0.05). The MELD score was the only independent factor for 6-month LT-free survival (hazard ratio 1.188, 95 % confidence interval 1.094-1.289, P<0.001), and rifaximin was not., Conclusions: In patients with SAH, adding rifaximin to corticosteroid or pentoxifylline had no survival benefit and no preventive effect on the development of liver-related complications. Surgical resection is the best-known approach for breast cancer treatment. However, post-operative metastases increase the rate of death. The potential effect of anesthetic drugs on long-term tumor growth, risk of metastasis, and recurrence after surgery has been investigated in cancer patients. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Therefore, we aimed to elucidate the anti-metastatic effect of lidocaine combined with common anesthetics and its mechanisms of action on lung metastasis in breast cancer models. The combination of lidocaine with propofol or sevoflurane inhibited the growth of TNBC cells compared to treatment alone. In addition, the combination effectively inhibited cancer cell migration and invasion. It suppressed tumor growth and increased the survival rate in breast 4 T1 orthotopic models. More importantly, it inhibited lung metastasis and recurrence compared with groups treated with a single anesthetic. In co-culture with TAMs and TNBC cells, lidocaine not only reduced M2-tumor-associated macrophages (TAM) that were increased by sevoflurane or propofol but also increased M1 macrophage polarization, impeding tumor growth in TNBC. Also, we found that the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) derived from TAMs increased EMT signaling in TNBC cells, and that lidocaine affected cancer cells as well as M2-TAMs, inducing M2 to M1 reprogramming and decreasing TGF-β/Smads-mediated EMT signaling in TNBC cells, leading to inhibition of cancer metastasis and recurrence. The retinoid-related orphan receptor gamma-t (RORγt), a member of the nuclear receptor superfamily, functions as a ligand-dependent transcription factor. As a pivotal modulator in the development and functionality of T-helper 17 (Th17) cells, RORγt plays a crucial role in immune response regulation. Inverse agonists targeting RORγt demonstrate significant potential in modulating Th17 cell activity, offering a promising avenue for the development of therapeutics aimed at treating autoimmune diseases associated with Th17 dysregulation. GSK2981278 is a potent RORγt inverse agonist, but a drawback of GSK2981278 is its low pharmacokinetic profile, leading to a clinical failure. We have explored detailed structure-activity relationship of GSK2981278 trying to improve metabolic stability while maintaining RORγt activity. As a result, a novel series of sulfonamide derivatives was discovered as potent RORγt inverse agonists with improved drug-like properties. b14 had greatly improved In Vitro metabolic stability (T 1/2  = 36.2 min) compared to GSK2981278 (T 1/2  = 0.8 min). Brassica napus is an important oil crop in China and has a great demand for nitrogen nutrients. Cationic amino acid transporters (CAT) play a key role in amino acid absorption and transport in plants. However, the CATs family has not been reported in B. napus so far. In this study, genome-wide analysis identified 22 CAT members in the B. napus genome. Based on phylogenetic and synteny analysis, BnaCATs were classified into four groups (Group I-Group IV). The members in the same subgroups showed similar physiochemical characteristics and intron/exon and motif patterns. By evaluating cis -elements in the promoter regions, we identified some cis -elements related to hormones, stress and plant development. Darwin's evolutionary analysis indicated that BnaCATs might have experienced strong purifying selection pressure. The BnaCAT family may have undergone gene expansion; the chromosomal location of BnaCATs indicated that whole-genome replication or segmental replication may play a major driving role. Differential expression patterns of BnaCATs under nitrate limitation, phosphate shortage, potassium shortage, cadmium toxicity, ammonium excess and salt stress conditions indicated that they were responsive to different nutrient stresses. In summary, these findings provide a comprehensive survey of the BnaCAT family and lay a foundation for the further functional analysis of family members.

The synthetical methodology for the [Cu(dmp) 2 ] 2+/1+ (dmp = 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline; neocuproine) complexes has been systematically investigated by using various copper precursors, including CuCl 2 , Cu(NO 3 ) 2 , and Cu(ClO 4 ) 2 . After an anion exchange to trifluoromethanesulfonimide (TFSI), the tetra-coordinated Cu II (dmp) 2 (TFSI) 2 -Cu(ClO 4 ) 2 (7.43%) outperformed the penta-coordinated Cu II (dmp) 2 (TFSI)(NO 3 )-Cu(NO 3 ) 2 (4.30%) and Cu II (dmp) 2 (TFSI)(Cl)-CuCl 2 . Polymeric chalcogenides, including a conducting copolymeric electrode of PEDOT-PEDTT [PEDOT = poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene); PEDTT = poly(3,4-ethylenedithiothiophene)] and a coordination polymeric electrode of silver bezeneselenolate ([Ag 2 (SePh) 2 ] n ; mithrene), are introduced as the electrocatalysts for [Cu(dmp) 2 ] 2+/1+ for the first time. After optimization, dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on carbon cloth (CC)/AgSePh-30 (10.18%) showed superior electrocatalytic ability compared to the benchmark CC/Pt (7.43%) due to numerous active sites provided by electron-donating Se atoms, high film roughness, and bottom-up 2D charge transfer routes. The DSSC based on CC/PEDTT-50 (10.38%) also outperformed CC/Pt due to numerous active sites provided by electron-donating S atoms and proper energy band structure. This work sheds light on the future design and synthesis in Cu-complex mediators and functional polymeric chalcogenides for high-performance DSSCs.

Exploring the challenges posed by uncertainties in numerical modeling for hazardous material storage, this study introduces methodologies to improve monitoring networks for detecting subsurface leakages. The proposed approaches were applied to the Korea CO 2 Storage Environmental Management (K-COSEM) test site, undergoing calibration, validation and uncertainty analysis through hydraulic and controlled-CO 2 release tests. The calibration phase involved inter-well tracer and multi-well pumping tests, leveraging the Parameter ESTimation (PEST) model to determine the aquifer flow and solute transport properties of the K-COSEM site. To tackle uncertainties with limited observation data, we adopted Latin Hypercube simulation. Our uncertainty analysis confirmed model accuracy in simulating observed CO 2 breakthrough curves. Simulation-optimization modeling is extensively used to identify optimal remediation designs. However, verifying these optimal solutions often remains unclear. In this study, we determine optimal groundwater remediation strategies using simulation-optimization modeling and assess the effectiveness of previous remediation efforts by validating optimized results through 14 years of long-term monitoring of trichloroethylene (TCE) contamination. The study site is the Road Administrative Office (RAO) in Wonju, Korea, where significant TCE contamination has occurred, and long-term in-situ remediation and monitoring have been conducted. We employ MODFLOW for simulating groundwater flow and MT3D for modeling dissolved TCE concentration distribution. The Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm-II (NSGA-II) is applied to derive optimal groundwater remediation designs. Initial simulation results effectively predicted long-term TCE contamination trends and the impact of short-term in-situ remediation. Our evaluation involved comparing these optimal designs with field test outcomes, leading to the integration of continuous intensive pump-and-treat with in-situ remediation strategies. By comparing various modeling scenarios against long-term TCE contamination trends, we confirmed the effectiveness of previous remediation efforts and demonstrated that the optimal remediation design substantially minimized TCE concentrations at the main source zone. Bispecific antibodies represent a significant advancement in therapeutic antibody engineering, offering the ability to simultaneously target two distinct antigens. This dual-targeting capability enhances therapeutic efficacy, especially in complex diseases, such as cancer and autoimmune disorders, where drug resistance and incomplete target coverage are prevalent challenges. Bispecific antibodies facilitate immune cell engagement and disrupt multiple signaling pathways, providing a more comprehensive treatment approach than traditional monoclonal antibodies. However, the intricate structure of bispecific antibodies introduces unique pharmacokinetic challenges, including issues related to their absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion, which can significantly affect their efficacy and safety. This review provides an in-depth analysis of the structural design, mechanisms of action, and pharmacokinetics of the currently approved bispecific antibodies. It also highlights the engineering innovations that have been implemented to overcome these challenges, such as Fc modifications and advanced dimerization techniques, which enhance the stability and half-life of bispecific antibodies. Significant progress has been made in bispecific antibody technology; however, further research is necessary to broaden their clinical applications, enhance their safety profiles, and optimize their incorporation into combination therapies. Continuous advancements in this field are expected to enable bispecific antibodies to provide more precise and effective therapeutic strategies for a range of complex diseases, ultimately improving patient outcomes and advancing precision medicine.

The aim of this study is to propose and evaluate a novel method for measuring the central ray direction and detecting the rotation centre of panoramic radiography using the panorama phantom. To determine the central ray direction, 2 points passing through the same x-coordinate in a panoramic radiograph were identified and connected. The angles formed by the central ray with the midline and the angle to the arch form were measured using mathematical calculations. Further, by analysing the continuous changes in the central ray obtained in this manner, the movement of the rotation centre was detected and visualized. The angle between the central ray and the midline exhibited a progressive decrease from the anterior to the posterior direction. With regards to the arch form, the angle of the central ray exhibited an increasing pattern as it moved from the anterior to the posterior direction, culminating in its peak value at the lower second premolar cusp region, followed by a consistent decrease. The rotation centre approximately started from the distolateral aspect of the coronoid process and then anteromedially moved to the midline in a curved line passing between the mandibular notch and coronoid process. The e^{+}e^{-}→D&#95;{s}^{+}D&#95;{s1}(2536)^{-} and e^{+}e^{-}→D&#95;{s}^{+}D&#95;{s2}^{*}(2573)^{-} processes are studied using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies from 4.530 to 4.946 GeV. The absolute branching fractions of D&#95;{s1}(2536)^{-}→D[over ¯]^{*0}K^{-} and D&#95;{s2}^{*}(2573)^{-}→D[over ¯]^{0}K^{-} are measured for the first time to be (35.9±4.8±3.5)% and (37.4±3.1±4.6)%, respectively. The e^{+}e^{-}→D&#95;{s}^{+}D&#95;{s1}(2536)^{-} and e^{+}e^{-}→D&#95;{s}^{+}D&#95;{s2}^{*}(2573)^{-} cross sections are measured, and a resonant structure at around 4.6 GeV with a width of 50 MeV is observed in both processes with a statistical significance of 7.2σ and 15σ, respectively. The state is observed for the first time in e^{+}e^{-}→D&#95;{s}^{+}D&#95;{s2}^{*}(2573)^{-} and could be the Y(4626) found by the Belle oration in the D&#95;{s}^{+}D&#95;{s1}(2536)^{-} final state, since they have similar masses and widths. There is also evidence for a structure at around 4.75 GeV in both processes.

The aim of this study was to propose a novel method to identify individuals by recognizing dentition change, along with human identification process using deep learning. Recent and past images of adults aged 20-49 years with more than two dental panoramic radiographs (DPRs) were assumed as postmortem (PM) and antemortem (AM) images, respectively. The dataset contained 1,029 paired PM-AM DPRs from 2000 to 2020. After constructing a database of AM dentition, the degree of similarity was calculated and sorted in descending order. The matched rank of AM identical to an unknown PM was measured by extracting candidate groups (CGs). The percentage of rank was calculated as the success rate, and similarity scores were compared based on imaging time intervals. The matched AM images were ranked in the CG with success rates of 83.2%, 72.1%, and 59.4% in the imaging time interval for extracting the top 20.0%, 10.0%, and 5.0%, respectively. The success rates depended on sex, and were higher for women than for men: the success rates for the extraction of the top 20.0%, 10.0%, and 5.0% were 97.2%, 81.1%, and 66.5%, respectively, for women and 71.3%, 64.0%, and 52.0%, respectively, for men. The similarity score differed significantly between groups based on the imaging time interval of 17.7 years. Background: The persistent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had direct and indirect effects on mortality, making it essential to analyze excess mortality to fully understand the impact of the pandemic. In this study, we constructed a mathematical model using number of deaths from Statistics Korea and analyzed excess mortality between 2020 and 2022 according to age, sex, and dominant severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 variant period., Methods: Number of all-cause deaths between 2010 and 2022 were obtained from the annual cause-of-death statistics provided by Statistics Korea. COVID-19 mortality data were acquired from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency. A multivariate linear regression model with seasonal effect, stratified by sex and age, was used to estimate the number of deaths in the absence of COVID-19. The estimated excess mortality rate was calculated., Results: Excess mortality was not significant between January 2020 and October 2021. However, it started to increase monthly from November 2021 and reached its highest point during the omicron-dominant period. Specifically, in March and April 2022, during the omicron BA.1/BA.2-dominant period, the estimated median values for excess mortality were the highest at 17,634 and 11,379, respectively. Both COVID-19-related deaths and excess mortality increased with age. A notable increase in excess mortality was observed in individuals aged ≥ 65 years. In the context of excess mortality per 100,000 population based on the estimated median values in March 2022, the highest numbers were found among males and females aged ≥ 85 years at 1,048 and 910, respectively., Conclusion: This study revealed that the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic coupled with its high transmissibility not only increased COVID-19-related deaths but also had a significant impact on overall mortality rates, especially in the elderly. Hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs) and dermal papilla cells (DPCs) are crucial in the biogenesis and maintenance of hair follicles (HFs). This study demonstrated that a fragment derived from aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase-interacting multifunctional protein1 (AIMP1) secreted from HFSCs activated DPCs and maintained HF homeostasis. A histological analysis revealed that AIMP1 levels in HF decreased with hair loss. Hair regrowth in AIMP1-induced mice was faster than in non-induced mice. Deletion mapping revealed 41 amino acids (TN41, aa 6-46) as the active region of AIMP1. The N-terminal peptide fragment of AIMP1 generated by MMP1 was secreted from Wnt-treated HFSCs to activate DPCs. TN41 activated Akt and ERK, increased β-catenin, and enhanced DPC activation. TN41 promoted hair shaft elongation in cultured human HFs and improved the hair-inducing activity of cultured DPC spheroids. Background: Fabry disease is an X-linked lysosomal storage disease caused by the impairment of α-galactosidase A. The complex intronic haplotype (CIH) variants, located in promoter and intronic regulatory lesions, has been found in patients with classical forms of Fabry disease. We present a case of Fabry disease in female monozygotic twins exhibiting the CIH mutation and classical manifestations., Case Presentation: A 61-year-old woman with a history of stroke, carotid artery occlusion, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and chronic kidney disease was referred to the nephrology clinic for management of her chronic kidney disease. Her monozygotic twin sister also presented with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, atrial flutter, carotid stenosis, and proteinuria. Clinical symptoms and a comprehensive family history strongly suggested the presence of Fabry disease. Genetic analysis revealed the presence of 5 variants within a complex intronic haplotype (CIH): c.-10 C > T, c.369 + 990 C > A, c.370 - 81&#95;370-77delCAGCC, c.640-16 A > G, and c.1000-22 C > T. We conducted a review of the patient's previous kidney biopsy findings, which demonstrated the presence of lamellated inclusion bodies in electron microscopy. Remarkably, both the monozygotic twin sister and her son exhibited the same genetic mutation. Enzyme replacement therapy was initiated for the patient. Her kidney function decreased throughout a thorough 2-year follow-up period, while there was a slight decrease in the left ventricular mass index., Conclusions: This is the first reported case of female monozygotic twins with the CIH variants representing cardiac, cerebrovascular, and renal manifestations suggestive of Fabry disease., (© 2024. Background: /purpose In cases where oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) invades the jawbone, clinicians frequently observe abnormal attenuation on computed tomography (CT) and pathologic signal intensity (SI) on magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the affected underlying bone marrow. This study introduced a concept of "underlying bone change" to examine its association with clinicopathological features and prognosis of OSCC, as well as its correlation with medullary invasion., Materials and Methods: We enrolled 93 consecutive patients diagnosed with OSCC, who underwent mandibulectomy between 2010 and 2016. CT and MR images, along with electronic medical records, were reviewed to evaluate correlations between underlying bone changes, clinicopathological features, five-year overall survival, and medullary invasion., Results: Of the 93 patients, 69 (74.2%) exhibited underlying bone sclerosis on CT, and 74 (79.6%) displayed pathological SI on MR images. These underlying bone changes correlated with the T stage and recurrence, but not with overall survival.Medullary invasion, observed in 61 (65.6%) patients, was strongly associated with T and TNM stages and was linked to poorer overall survival.The underlying bone changes on CT and MR images were positively associated with medullary invasion; however, no significant differences were found in the occurrence of underlying bone changes between the subtypes based on the extent of medullary invasion., Conclusion: Underlying bone changes on CT and MR images can provide valuable insights into the aggressiveness of bone invasion by OSCC. Objectives: Simulations are increasingly being offered as part of the educational experience of healthcare students. We used a Health Management Scenario Simulation system to create a course. This study aimed to evaluate learning gains before and after the course., Methods: Based on the learning strategies of framing, simulation, and debriefing, the Health Management Scenario Simulation course lasted 4 weeks and was conducted online. Learning gain was assessed using a comparative self-assessment questionnaire administered electronically at the beginning and end of the course. We organized focus group interviews and collected quantitative data after students completed the simulations and the questionnaire. These data were subjected to descriptive statistical analysis and thematic grouping using frequency counting., Results: There were 195 health management students enrolled in the course. In total, 265 anonymously completed questionnaires were received, 141 (72.31%) on the pre-simulation and 124 (63.59%) on the post-simulation. All questionnaire item gain values were positive, except the item "I can identify common health risk factors," which showed no change. The skills domain showed the highest learning gain, ranging from 16 to 22%. Six students participated in the focus-group study. The main themes that emerged from students' reflections were learner-centeredness, competencies, and career development., Conclusion: Students acquired health management skills through the simulation, which contributed to the development of basic attitudes and skills in their professional careers. Objectives: This study aimed to develop an evidence-based clinical imaging guideline for teeth suspected with vertical root fractures., Methods: An adaptation methodology based on the Korean Clinical Imaging Guidelines (K-CIG) was used in the guideline development process. After searching for guidelines using major databases such as Ovid-Medline, Elsevier-Embase, National Guideline Clearinghouse, and Guideline International Network, as well as domestic databases such as KoreaMed, KMbase, and KoMGI, two reviewers analyzed the retrieved articles. The retrieved articles were included in this review using well-established inclusion criteria., Results: Twenty articles were identified through an online search, of which three were selected for guideline development. Based on these three guidelines, this study developed specific recommendations concerning the optimal imaging modality for diagnosing teeth suspected of vertical root fractures., Conclusions: Periapical radiography is the preferred method for assessing teeth with mastication-related pain and suspected vertical root fractures. However, if intraoral radiographs do not provide sufficient information about root fractures, a small FOV CBCT may be considered. Background/aims: Potassium channel tetramerization domain containing 17 (KCTD17) protein, an adaptor for the cullin3 (Cul3) ubiquitin ligase complex, has been implicated in various human diseases; however, its role in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains elusive. Here, we aimed to elucidate the clinical features of KCTD17, and investigate the mechanisms by which KCTD17 affects HCC progression., Methods: We analyzed transcriptomic data from patients with HCC. Hepatocyte-specific KCTD17 deficient mice were treated with diethylnitrosamine (DEN) to assess its effect on HCC progression. Additionally, we tested KCTD17-directed antisense oligonucleotides for their therapeutic potential in vivo., Results: Our investigation revealed the upregulation of KCTD17 expression in both tumors from patients with HCC and mouse models of HCC, in comparison to non-tumor controls. We identified the leucine zipper-like transcriptional regulator 1 (Lztr1) protein, a previously identified Ras destabilizer, as a substrate for KCTD17-Cul3 complex. KCTD17-mediated Lztr1 degradation led to Ras stabilization, resulting in increased proliferation, migration, and wound healing in liver cancer cells. Hepatocyte-specific KCTD17 deficient mice or liver cancer xenograft models were less susceptible to carcinogenesis or tumor growth. Similarly, treatment with KCTD17-directed antisense oligonucleotides (ASO) in a mouse model of HCC markedly lowered tumor volume as well as Ras protein levels, compared to those in control ASO-treated mice., Conclusion: KCTD17 induces the stabilization of Ras and downstream signaling pathways and HCC progression and may represent a novel therapeutic target for HCC.

Background/objectives: The tumor microenvironment (TME) has emerged as a significant prognostic factor. This study aimed to identify prognostic factors by combining clinicopathologic parameters and the TME biomarkers in patients who underwent surgery following neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) for locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC)., Methods: CD8 + T cells, CXCR3, CXCL10, and α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) were analyzed via immunohistochemical staining. We also incorporated AI-powered digital pathology to assess the spatial TME. The associations between these biomarkers, clinicopathologic parameters, and survival outcomes were evaluated., Results: CD8 + T cell expression, CXCR3 expression in tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs), and immune phenotypes were correlated. LARC patients with a high expression of CD8 + T cells, CXCR3 in TILs, and an inflamed phenotype had a significantly better prognosis than their counterparts did. In the multivariate analysis, the expression of CD8 + T cells and the inflamed/immune-excluded phenotype were significant tumor immune microenvironment (TiME) biomarkers for recurrence-free survival (RFS) but not for overall survival (OS). Notably, patients with the immune-desert phenotype had a poor prognosis regardless of pathologic stage, even if postoperative chemotherapy was administered ( p < 0.001)., Conclusions: CD8 + T cells and AI-powered immune phenotypes, alongside clinical factors, can guide personalized treatment in LARC patients receiving nCRT. A therapeutic strategy to modify the TiME after nCRT could help reduce recurrence after surgery.

Reactive capture of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) offers an electrified pathway to produce renewable carbon monoxide (CO), which can then be upgraded into long-chain hydrocarbons and fuels. Previous reactive capture systems relied on hydroxide- or amine-based capture solutions. However, selectivity for CO remains low (<50%) for hydroxide-based systems and conventional amines are prone to oxygen (O 2 ) degradation. Here, we develop a reactive capture strategy using potassium glycinate (K-GLY), an amino acid salt (AAS) capture solution applicable to O 2 -rich CO 2 -lean conditions. By employing a single-atom catalyst, engineering the capture solution, and elevating the operating temperature and pressure, we increase the availability of dissolved in-situ CO 2 and achieve CO production with 64% Faradaic efficiency (FE) at 50 mA cm -2 . We report a measured CO energy efficiency (EE) of 31% and an energy intensity of 40 GJ t CO -1 , exceeding the best hydroxide- and amine-based reactive capture reports. The J/ψ, ψ(3686)→Σ^{0}Σ[over ¯]^{0} processes and subsequent decays are studied using the world's largest J/ψ and ψ(3686) data samples collected with the BESIII detector. The parity-violating decay parameters of the decays Σ^{0}→Λγ and Σ[over ¯]^{0}→Λ[over ¯]γ, α&#95;{Σ^{0}}=-0.0017±0.0021±0.0018 and α[over ¯]&#95;{Σ^{0}}=0.0021±0.0020±0.0022, are measured for the first time. The strong CP symmetry is tested in the decays of the Σ^{0} hyperons for the first time by measuring the asymmetry A&#95;{CP}^{Σ}=α&#95;{Σ^{0}}+α[over ¯]&#95;{Σ^{0}}=(0.4±2.9±1.3)×10^{-3}. The weak CP test is performed in the subsequent decays of their daughter particles Λ and Λ[over ¯]. Also for the first time, the transverse polarizations of the Σ^{0} hyperons in J/ψ and ψ(3686) decays are observed with opposite directions, and the ratios between the S-wave and D-wave contributions of the J/ψ, ψ(3686)→Σ^{0}Σ[over ¯]^{0} decays are obtained. These results are crucial to understand the decay dynamics of the charmonium states and the production mechanism of the Σ^{0}-Σ[over ¯]^{0} pairs.

Introduction: The low sensitivity of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) renders it unsuitable as a stand-alone marker for early hepatocellular carcinoma (eHCC) surveillance. Therefore, additional blood-based biomarkers with enhanced sensitivities are required., Objectives: In light of the metabolic changes that are distinctive to eHCC development, the current study presents a panel of serum metabolites that may serve as noninvasive diagnostic indicators for patients with eHCC., Methods: Serum samples obtained from normal control (NC), cirrhosis, and eHCC patients were analyzed by four different metabolomic platforms. A meta-analysis of very early-stage HCC transcriptomic datasets retrieved from public sources supports the integrated interpretation with metabolic changes., Results: A total of 94 metabolites were significantly correlated with a progressive disease status. Integrated analysis of the significant metabolites and differentially expressed genes from meta-analysis emphasized metabolic pathways including bile acid biosynthesis, phenylalanine and tyrosine metabolism, and butanoate metabolism. The 11 metabolites associated with these pathways were compiled into a metabolite panel for use as diagnostic signatures. With an accuracy of 81.8%, compared with 45.4% for a model trained solely on AFP, the model enhanced its ability to differentiate between the three groups by incorporating a metabolite panel and AFP. Upon examining the trained models using receiver operating characteristic curves, the AFP and metabolite panel combined model exhibited greater area under the curve values in comparisons between NC and eHCC (1.000 versus 0.810) and cirrhosis and eHCC (0.926 versus 0.556). Exploring the level of intraspecific diversity in taxa experienced radiation is helpful to understanding speciation and biodiversity assembly. Gentiana section Chondrophyllae sensu lato encompasses more than 180 species and occupies more a half of species in the genus. In this study, we collected samples across the range of three species ( Gentiana aristata , G. crassuloides and G. haynaldii ) in section Chondrophyllae s.l., and recovered the intra-species variation by comparing with closely related taxon. Using 25 newly sequenced plastid genomes together with previously published data, we compared structural differences, quantified the variations in plastome size, and measured nucleotide diversity in various regions. Our results showed that the plastome size variation in the three Chondrophyllae species ranged from 285 to 628 bp, and the size variation in LSC, IR and SSC ranged from 236 to 898 bp, 52 to 393 bp and 135 to 356 bp, respectively. Nucleotide diversity of plastome or any of the four regions was much higher than the control species. The average nucleotide diversity in plastomes of the three species ranged from 0.0010 to 0.0023 in protein coding genes, and from 0.0023 to 0.0061 in intergenic regions. More repeat sequence variations were detected within the three Chondrophyllae species than the control species. Various plastid sequence matrixes resulted in different backbone topology in two target species, showed uncertainty in phylogenetic relationship based inference. Energy metabolism exerts profound impacts on flesh quality. Niacin can be transformed into nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), which is indispensable to energy metabolism. To investigate whether niacin deficiency could affect energy metabolism and flesh quality, six diets with graded levels of 0.49, 9.30, 21.30, 33.30, 45.30 and 57.30 mg/kg niacin were fed to grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) for 63 days. The results showed that niacin deficiency declined flesh quality by changing amino acid and fatty acid profiles, decreasing shear force, increasing cooking loss and accelerating pH decline. The accelerated pH decline might be associated with enhanced glycolysis as evident by increased hexokinase (HK), pyruvate kinase (PK) and lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) activities, and mitochondrial dysfunction as evident by destroyed mitochondrial morphology, impaired respiratory chain complex I and antioxidant ability. Purpose: This study aimed to propose a methodological approach for reducing the radiation dose in pediatric conebeam computed tomography (CBCT), focusing exclusively on balancing image quality with dose optimization., Materials and Methods: The dose-area product (DAP) for exposure was reduced using copper-plate attenuation of an X-ray source. The thickness of copper (Cu) was increased from 0 to 2.2 mm, and 10 different DAP levels were used. The QUART DVT&#95;AP phantom and pediatric radiologic dentiform were scanned under the respective DAP levels. The contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), image homogeneity, and modulation transfer function (MTF) were analyzed using the QUART DVT&#95;AP phantom. An expert evaluation (overall image grade, appropriateness of field of view, artifacts, noise, and resolution) was conducted using pediatric dentiform images. The critical DAP level was determined based on phantom and dentiform analysis results., Results: CNR and image homogeneity decreased as the DAP was reduced; however, there was an inflection point of image homogeneity at Cu 1.6 mm (DAP=138.00 mGy·cm 2 ), where the value started increasing. The MTF showed constant values as the DAP decreased. The expert evaluation of overall image grades showed "no diagnostic value" for dentiform images with Cu 1.9-2.2 mm (DAP=78.00-103.33 mGy·cm 2 ). The images with Cu 0-1.6 mm (DAP=138.00-1697.67 mGy·cm 2 ) had a "good," "moderate," or "poor but interpretable" grade., Conclusion: Reducing DAP beyond a 1.6-mm Cu thickness degraded CBCT image quality. Objectives: This study evaluated the performance of four large language model (LLM)-based chatbots by comparing their test results with those of dental students on an oral and maxillofacial radiology examination., Methods: ChatGPT, ChatGPT Plus, Bard, and Bing Chat were tested on 52 questions from regular dental college examinations. These questions were categorized into three educational content areas: basic knowledge, imaging and equipment, and image interpretation. They were also classified as multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and short-answer questions (SAQs). The accuracy rates of the chatbots were compared with the performance of students, and further analysis was conducted based on the educational content and question type., Results: The students' overall accuracy rate was 81.2%, while that of the chatbots varied: 50.0% for ChatGPT, 65.4% for ChatGPT Plus, 50.0% for Bard, and 63.5% for Bing Chat. ChatGPT Plus achieved a higher accuracy rate for basic knowledge than the students (93.8% vs. 78.7%). However, all chatbots performed poorly in image interpretation, with accuracy rates below 35.0%. All chatbots scored less than 60.0% on MCQs, but performed better on SAQs., Conclusions: The performance of chatbots in oral and maxillofacial radiology was unsatisfactory. Further training using specific, relevant data derived solely from reliable sources is required. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is known to be lethal disease. However, its prognosis remains poor, primarily because the precise oncogenic mechanisms underlying HCC progression remain elusive, thus hampering effective treatment. Here, we aimed to identify the potential oncogenes in HCC and elucidate the underlying mechanisms of their action. To identify potential candidate genes, an integrative analysis of eight publicly available genomic datasets was performed, and the functional implications of the identified genes were assessed in vitro and in vivo. Sortilin 1 (SORT1) was identified as a potential candidate oncogene in HCC, and its overexpression in HCC cells was confirmed by analyzing spatial transcriptomic and single-cell data. Silencing SORT1 in Huh-7 and Hep3B cells significantly reduced HCC progression in vitro and in vivo. Functional analyses of oncogenic pathways revealed that SORT1 expression regulated the Notch signaling pathway activation and CD133 expression. Furthermore, analysis of epigenetic regulation of the candidate gene and its clinical implications using The Cancer Genome Atlas Liver Hepatocellular Carcinoma (TCGA LIHC) and our HCC cohort (AJOU&#95;HCC cohort) data demonstrated an inverse correlation between the methylation status of the SORT1 promoter region, specifically at the cg16988986 site, and SORT1 mRNA expression, indicating the epigenetic regulation of SORT1 in HCC. In addition, the distinct methylation status of cg16988986 was significantly associated with patient survival. In conclusion, SORT1 plays a pivotal role in HCC by activating the Notch signaling pathway and increasing CD133 expression. Exploiting the inherent compatibility of DNA-based data storage with living cells, various cellular recording approaches have been developed for recording and retrieving biologically relevant signals in otherwise inaccessible locations, such as inside the body. This review provides an overview of the current state of engineered cellular memory systems, highlighting their design principles, advantages, and limitations. We examine various technologies, including CRISPR-Cas systems, recombinases, retrons, and DNA methylation, that enable these recording systems. Additionally, we discuss potential strategies for improving recording accuracy, scalability, and durability to address current limitations in the field. This emerging modality of biological measurement will be key to gaining novel insights into diverse biological processes and fostering the development of various biotechnological applications, from environmental sensing to disease monitoring and beyond.

Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies ranging from 3.80 to 4.95 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20  fb^{-1}, a measurement of Born cross sections for the e^{+}e^{-}→D^{0}D[over ¯]^{0} and D^{+}D^{-} processes is presented with unprecedented precision. Many clear peaks in the line shape of e^{+}e^{-}→D^{0}D[over ¯]^{0} and D^{+}D^{-} around the mass range of G(3900), ψ(4040), ψ(4160), Y(4260), and ψ(4415), etc., are foreseen. These results offer crucial experimental insights into the nature of hadron production in the open-charm region.

Type 1 fimbria, the short hair-like appendage assembled on the bacterial surface, plays a pivotal role in adhesion and invasion in Edwardsiella piscicida . The type III secretion system (T3SS), another bacterial surface appendage, facilitates E. piscicida 's replication in vivo by delivering effectors into host cells. Our previous research demonstrated that E. piscicida T3SS protein EseJ inhibits adhesion and invasion of E. piscicida by suppressing type 1 fimbria. However, how EseJ suppresses type 1 fimbria remains elusive. In this study, a lacI -like operator (nt -245 to -1 of fimA ) upstream of type 1 fimbrial operon in E. piscicida was identified, and EseJ inhibits type 1 fimbria through the lacI -like operator. Moreover, through DNA pull-down and electrophoretic mobility shift assay, an AraC-type T3SS regulator, EsrC, was screened and verified to bind to nt -145 to -126 and nt -50 to -1 of fimA , suppressing type 1 fimbria. EseJ is almost abolished upon the depletion of EsrC. EsrC and EseJ impede type 1 fimbria expression. Intriguingly, nutrition and microbiota-derived indole activate type 1 fimbria through downregulating T3SS, alleviating EsrC or EseJ's inhibitory effect on lacI -like operator of type 1 fimbrial operon. By this study, it is revealed that upon entering the gastrointestinal tract, rich nutrients and indole downregulate T3SS and thereof upregulate type 1 fimbria, stimulating efficient adhesion and invasion; upon being internalized into epithelium, the limit in indole and nutrition switches on T3SS and thereof switches off type 1 fimbria, facilitating effector delivery to guarantee E. piscicida 's survival/replication in vivo .IMPORTANCEIn this work, we identified the lacI -like operator of type 1 fimbrial operon in E. piscicida , which was suppressed by the repressors-T3SS protein EseJ and EsrC. We unveiled that E. piscicida upregulates type 1 fimbria upon sensing rich nutrition and the microbiota-derived indole, thereof promoting the adhesion of E. piscicida . The increase of indole and nutrition promotes type 1 fimbria by downregulating T3SS. Background & Objective: Epilepsy has long been associated with stigma and misconceptions. In response, the Korean Epilepsy Society initiated the Epilepsy Renaming project in 2008 to replace the stigmatizing term with a neutral and scientifically grounded name, "cerebroelectric disorder". This study explores the impact of changing terminology on the public discourse surrounding epilepsy., Methods: Online news articles from distinct time periods (2001-2003, 2011-2014, 2017-2018, and 2020-2022) were analyzed using text data analysis techniques, including Latent Dirichlet Allocation topic modeling, frequency analysis, and sentiment analysis. The inclusion of data from 2017 to 2018 allowed for an examination of discourse trends independent of the COVID-19 pandemic's influence. Correlation of words in each period was visualized via network maps. Migraine was set as control term to highlight changes in perception devoid of significant stigma intervention efforts., Results: The analysis revealed a significant shift in terminology preference, with cerebroelectric disorder gradually replacing epilepsy in news articles. The discourse surrounding epilepsy evolved over time from focusing on healthcare and economic aspects to patient-centered discussions, emphasizing the daily lives of individuals with epilepsy. This shift towards more empathetic and less stigmatized language was contrasted against the discourse on migraine, highlighting the specific impact of the terminological change on epilepsy's perception., Conclusion: The adoption of the neutral term "cerebroelectric disorder" in South Korea has influenced the discourse surrounding epilepsy, leading to more patient-centered discussions and a reduction in stigma. Solid-state batteries (SSBs) have the potential to revolutionize the current energy storage sector. A significant portion of the current development of electric vehicles and the electrification of various appliances relies on Lithium (Li)-ion batteries. However, future energy demands will require the development of stronger and more reliable batteries. This report presents a novel solid state electrolyte (SSE) composed of a self-healing composite solid polymer electrolyte (CSPE) matrix and aluminum-doped (Li 0.33 La 0.56 ) 1.005 Ti 0.99 Al 0.01 O 3 (A-LLTO) nanofillers. The CSPE contains Jeffamine ED-2003 monomer, Benzene-1,3,5-tricarbaldehyde (BTC) crosslinker dissolved in a 1:1 ratio of Dimethylformamide (DMF) to LiPF 6 , and a certain amount (x) of A-LLTO nanofillers (x = 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5%). A CSPE containing x-amount of A-LLTO fillers (referred to as CAL-x%) demonstrates excellent ion-conducting properties and stable battery performance. The CAL-10% demonstrates 1.1 × 10 -3  S cm -1 of ionic conductivity at room temperature (RT). A-LLTO nanofillers dispersed uniformly within the polymer matrix form a percolation network, which is believed to improve ionic conductivity and the diffusion of Li + ions. The CR-2032 cell, consisting of LiFePO 4 (LFP)║CAL-10%║Li, at RT offers an initial discharge capacity of ≈165 mAh g -1 at 0.1C rate for 120 cycles with 98.85% coulombic efficiency (C.E.)., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)
