Microseismic monitoring has been used in geo-energy related activities, such as shale-gas exploitation, mining, deep geothermal exploitation, geotechnical and structural engineering, for detecting and locating fractures, rock failures and micro-earthquakes. The success of microseismic monitoring depends on reliable detection and location of the recorded microseismicity. Multichannel coherence migration (MCM) is a detection and location waveform migration-based approach which does not require phase picking, identification and association and performs well on noisy data. Its caveat is a high computational cost, which impedes its application of MCM on large data sets or for real-time monitoring. To address this issue, we propose an improved approach, the multichannel coherence migration grid search (MCMgs), by introducing an adaptive grid optimization technique. Based on results from synthetic and real data, we show that MCMgs reduces the computation time up to 64 times. In addition, MCMgs generates multiple maximum coherence values with various grid sizes instead of a single (maximum) coherence value that links to a single gridpoint and size, thus resulting in more accurate locations. Our simulation results on different deployment geometries demonstrate that MCMgs is effective even with a small number of recordings available—a minimum of seven. We conduct a sensitivity analysis to assess how the detectability of events is affected by the spatial arrangement of the deployed monitoring array. If a limited number of seismometers are available for deployment, our analysis favours a patch array deployment geometry. We show that 12 seismometers deployed at a patch array geometry can have similar detection and localization capability as a large rectangular array of more than 100 seismometers but at a much lower computational and deployment cost. - Abstract
Background: The extent to which health care systems have adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic to provide necessary cardiac diagnostic services is unknown. Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the impact of the pandemic on cardiac testing practices, volumes and types of diagnostic services, and perceived psychological stress to health care providers worldwide. Methods: The International Atomic Energy Agency conducted a worldwide survey assessing alterations from baseline in cardiovascular diagnostic care at the pandemic's onset and 1 year later. Multivariable regression was used to determine factors associated with procedure volume recovery. Results: Surveys were submitted from 669 centers in 107 countries. Worldwide reduction in cardiac procedure volumes of 64% from March 2019 to April 2020 recovered by April 2021 in high- and upper middle-income countries (recovery rates of 108% and 99%) but remained depressed in lower middle- and low-income countries (46% and 30% recovery). Although stress testing was used 12% less frequently in 2021 than in 2019, coronary computed tomographic angiography was used 14% more, a trend also seen for other advanced cardiac imaging modalities (positron emission tomography and magnetic resonance; 22%-25% increases). Pandemic-related psychological stress was estimated to have affected nearly 40% of staff, impacting patient care at 78% of sites. In multivariable regression, only lower-income status and physicians’ psychological stress were significant in predicting recovery of cardiac testing. Conclusions: Cardiac diagnostic testing has yet to recover to prepandemic levels in lower-income countries. Worldwide, the decrease in standard stress testing is offset by greater use of advanced cardiac imaging modalities. Pandemic-related psychological stress among providers is widespread and associated with poor recovery of cardiac testing.

The authors aim to present the mechanism for the protection of the environment through misdemeanor law in Belgrade for the period from 2017 to 2022, analyzing its effectiveness in broad terms. The five-year period covered by this study is determined as a period in which certain trends can be recognized and followed, both in terms of the structure of prohibited behaviors directed against the environment and regarding the activities undertaken by competent administrative authorities and misdemeanor courts as a form of formal response. The study begins with the concept of the environment defined in the Environmental Protection Law. The study analyzes those misdemeanors whose commission changes and/or can change the states and conditions in the environment. The effectiveness of protection through misdemeanor law is analyzed in three aspects. First, the scope of the prescribed offenses is considered. On the other hand, the complete absence of prescribing certain actions directed against the environment as misdemeanors is observed. Further, the quality of the misdemeanor provisions themselves is considered, especially in terms of their sufficient specificity to ensure their straightforward application by administrative and judicial authorities. Finally, the outcomes of misdemeanor proceedings related to offenses against the environment are analyzed. Aiming to further dispel the myth of "environmental crimes" as victimless crimes, the authors cite and explain the effects of the most common misdemeanors on both the environment and human life and health.

Rate coefficients for electron impact dissociation of the N2 molecule under the influence of crossed radio-frequency (RF) electric and magnetic fields were calculated for field frequencies of 13.56, 100 and 200 MHz and for root mean square values of the reduced electric field strength of 300 and 500 Td. The root mean square values of the reduced magnetic field were varied from 0 to 2000 Hx. Тhe effects of the strength of the RF fields and their frequency on the rates for the dissociation to neutral fragments and for the dissociative ionization are discussed. The temporal evolution of the rate coefficients during one period of the RF field is shown and discussed.

The systemic administration of glucocorticoids has not only strong beneficial anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects but also numerous adverse health effects. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the stereological and ultrastructural characteristics and distribution of gastrin-producing G cells in rat antral mucosa after 12 days of intraperitoneal administration of 2 mg/kg dexamethasone (DEX). In both groups of rats (DEX and control), the G cells were located at the base of the antral mucosal crypts, but in the DEX-treated rats, they were also found near the gastric lumen and showed an altered morphology compared to the basal cells. There were significant differences in the number of G cells per unit area and unit volume of antral mucosa between the groups studied. In the DEX-treated rats, the modified morphology and position of the antral G cells within the gastric units indicate their modified activity and possible impaired regulation of gastric acid production.

Dexamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticoid commonly used in both human and veterinary medicine. Prolonged treatment with dexamethasone can lead to serious metabolic side effects such as insulin resistance and diabetes. In this study, the morphological, immunohistochemical, and ultrastructural changes in the rat pancreatic islets were investigated after dexamethasone treatment (2 mg/kg, intraperitoneally for 12 days). The results showed that the volume density, mean diameter and profile area of islets were significantly increased in dexamethasone-treated animals. The volume density, profile area and mass of B-cells increased, whereas the volume density of A-and D-cells decreased, as did the number of A-cells per mm 2 of islet. Mild insulin immunopositivity of the centrally located B-cells together with altered ultrastructural features indicated their loss of function. The results of the present study suggest adverse effects of dexamethasone on pancreatic endocrine function that may ultimately seriously affect glucose homeostasis.

Colorectal cancer is one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. It is the most common malignancy and there is a need for new approaches in therapies. Surgery, radiation and chemotherapy are the key components of colon cancer treatment. Besides common chemotherapy, alternative therapies are being studied to increase treatment effectiveness and reduce side effects. In this article, colorectal carcinoma cells were treated with chemotherapeutics and relative gene expression was investigated for the genes coding cytoskeleton proteins: CDH1, CTNNB1 and CDH2; for redox status genes: GPX1, GPX2, GPX3, GPX4, TXNRD1, GSTP1, NFE2L2, NFKB1, HIF1A; and for apoptosis genes: CASP3, CASP8, CASP9, FAS, BCL-2 and BAX. The results of our research showed that some concentrations of chemotherapeutics increased the expression of certain genes. Molecular alterations that lead to colorectal cancer can determine appropriate and effective treatment - chemotherapeutics, as well as the design of direct therapeutic targets.

Oligometastatic disease is defined as an intermediate state between localized and widespread metastatic disease. Oligometastatic prostate cancer is generally defined by the presence of five or fewer metastatic sites on imaging. In the era of precision and personalized cancer care, the introduction of more sensitive imaging technologies and the availability of safe and effective localized non-or minimally invasive treatment options, have led to an increase in the incidence and clinical interest in oligometastatic prostate cancer. In addition, the therapeutic paradigm for oligometastatic prostate cancer is evolving toward a more aggressive approach. Retrospective studies have shown that in the metastatic setting, treatments such as radical prostatectomy and local or metastasis-directed radiation therapy can be performed with minimal risk of toxicity and may enhance clinical outcomes. As there is insufficient data to draw reliable conclusions about their impact on survival, aggressive approaches in the treatment of oligometastatic prostate cancer should be considered only in the context of prospective clinical trials, with the patient informed of the limited evidence of benefit. The current inconsistent approach of detecting and treating oligometastatic prostate cancer patients will need to be standardized in order for future clinical studies to be properly performed and, more importantly, compared. These crucial conditions will reveal if oligometastasis diagnosis and therapy should be included in the standard clinical practice of prostate cancer patients.

This scientific paper deals with religious Orthodox holidays and their significance within Serbian culture. The facts that celebration of religious holidays has been very widespread in recent years and that they have been receiving extensive media coverage are indicative of their considerable social importance and topicality. Religious holidays are an inalienable part of the Serbian national heritage, and the UNESCO has even declared slavas to be part of global immaterial cultural heritage. Religious holidays have always had the mission of socializing social groups, as well as individuals. The Orthodox approach to religion has never pretended to abolish or replace before-Christian holidays and rituals with Christian ones. It merely enriched them, drawing on them and endowing them with novel, Christian raiment. This is the very reason why the Orthodox tradition is exceptionally rich in symbiotic layers of the rustic and the Christian. Many old, before-Christian holidays have been preserved thus, acquiring new functions, while the Orthodox Christianity introduced elements of the Eternal, without interfering much with the ingrained habits of community life of earlier eras.

Introduction. Schwannoma, also known as neurilemmoma, is a rare but one of the most common tumors of the peripheral nerves. It originates from Schwann cells of the peripheral nerve sheaths. Schwannoma mostly occurs in adults between 20 to 70 years of age. The regions where the tumor most commonly occurs are the head and neck, but it can occur almost anywhere in the body or the organs. Schwannomas are usually up to 2.5 cm in size but may grow to 4–5 cm. In this study, the rare case of large schwannoma of the median nerve in the distal part of the forearm is presented. Case report. A 46-year-old male patient was referred to a plastic surgeon with a diagnosis of lipoma on the anterior side of the distal third of the left forearm. Ultra-sound and magnetic resonance imaging were done, and the surgery was performed after that. An encapsulated tumor of the median nerve was found, and the tumor was completely removed without nerve damage. Histological analysis showed a benign schwannoma of cellular type and biphasic shape. In the postoperative course, there was transient paresthesia. One year after surgery, no tumor recurrence nor neurological deficit was recorded. Conclusion. Schwannoma is the most common benign tumor of peripheral nerves. Schwannomas over 5 cm in size are extremely rare. Appropriate physical examination, pre-operative imaging studies, and histological verification are required for the final diagnosis. The method of choice in treating large schwannomas is complete surgical excision.

A new process for mine water purification has been proposed, based on biosorption followed by burning the loaded biosorbents. Wheat straw and sawdust of trees are convenient as biosorbents in the proposed process. Biosorption was performed in two stages: a cross-flow regime between the mine water and the biosorbent. The achieved copper adsorption degree was > 95%. Based on the mine water volume and its chemical composition, the estimated amount of the biosorbent was 60.000 t/year. The cogenerative mode of the loaded biosorbent combustion was considered for green energy production. For the recovery of metals concentrated in the ash, they must be processed separately. Several possibilities for ash processing were proposed and discussed. For an annual volume of mine water and the copper content in it, the mass and energy balances of the process were estimated, giving some economic data on the process efficiency. The analysis of the revenues and costs, based only on the energy value produced by the combustion of the biosorbent, has shown that the process can economically be viable regardless of the value of the recovered metal.

Introduction. Marjolin’s ulcer is a skin malignancy that occurs on a scar or chronic wound. It most commonly occurs on a burn scar. Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common type of this tumor in more than 90% of cases. The rate of this rare malignant transformation is 1–2%. Marjolin’s ulcer is more aggressive than other skin cancers. Wide excision is the treatment of choice. Recurrences are common. We present a large exophytic carcinoma of the lower leg as a rare form of this tumor ac-cording to the size and type together with reconstruction results. Case report. A 52-year-old man was presented with a large exophytic tumor on the left lower leg. The tumor was located at the site of the previous gunshot in-jury. The latent period was 22 years. Tumor size was 14 × 12 cm. Wide excision was performed (2-cm surgical margin), including the deep fascia, and the defect was closed by a split-thickness skin graft from the opposite thigh. Histology showed well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. There were no regional or distant metastases. One year after surgery, there was no recurrence of the tumor. Conclusion. Early diagnosis of Marjolin’s ulcer and wide excision are mandatory. Surgical margins for excision should be 2 cm, and excision should include deep fascia. Multiple and repeated biopsies of chronic wounds are advised. There is no consensus on the staging of Marjolin’s ulcer and lymph node dissection.

Introduction. Hemangiopericytoma is a rare tumour derived from the pericytes, contractile spindle cells that surround the capillaries and postcapillary venules. The tumour is found equally among males and females. Case report. We reported a case of a 63-year-old female who presented a giant painful mass on her right shoulder that occurred one year before admission. Limited range of motion and a sense of tingling along the affected arm was present also. An irregular, oval-shaped mass, dark red in colour, with signs of necrosis, was 14 cm in maximum diameter. Routine laboratory analysis showed results within the range of referenced values. Lung X-ray and ultrasonographic examination of the abdomen showed no signs of secondary tumour deposits, and no osteomuscular lesions in the affected region. Ultrasonographic examination of the neck and right axillary region showed no signs of regional metastases. The surgical excision of the entire tumour was performed, with the associated subcutaneous tissue and a part of fascia underneath. Results of the histopathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis of hemangiopericytoma. The specimen showed no signs or elements of the neoplastic tissue on the edges of the resection lines. Three years after the operation, there were no signs of tumour relapses, regional or systemic metastases. Conclusion. Considering that there are no official clinical guides and protocols for hemangiopericytoma management, as well as the occurrence of cutaneous and subcutaneous heman-giopericytomas is exceptionally rare, more extensive research in this field and more described cases are needed to gain a better understanding of the issue.

Cancer survivors often face adverse effects of treatment, which have a significant impact on morbidity and mortality. Normal-tissue side effects following radiotherapy (RT), as one of therapeutic modalities, are common and may seriously affect quality of life which is especially important in long-term prostate cancer (PC) survivors. Upgrading in our knowledge in radiation biology have led to the better understanding that genetics plays a significant role in determining a patient's predisposition to developing late RT toxicity, leading to the new field of research called "radiogenomics". With the evolution of DNA sequencing technologies and genomic analysis, radiogenomics made an appearance as a state-of-the-art science in the field of personalized medicine with the goal of detection the genetic determinants RT adverse reactions. A single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) - based assay could be used to predict the risk of RT side effects along with clinical features and treatment factors. Several SNPs have been identified that are associated with late radiation-induced morbidity in PC patients. Most importantly, these SNPs make up genes expressed in the tissues that are likely at the root of these symptoms, including the bladder, rectum, and small intestine, which are most exposed in PC RT. Furthermore, genome-wide association studies are likely to lead to an increasing number of genetic polymorphisms that can predict long-term RT complications. Finally, radiogenomics attempts to predict which PC patients will show radiosensitivity, so that radiation oncologists, as well as surgeons, can change treatment accordingly in order to reduce side effects or increase the RT effectiveness.

BACKGROUND: The extent to which health care systems have adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic to provide necessary cardiac diagnostic services is unknown.OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to determine the impact of the pandemic on cardiac testing practices, volumes and types of diagnostic services, and perceived psychological stress to health care providers worldwide.METHODS: The International Atomic Energy Agency conducted a worldwide survey assessing alterations from baseline in cardiovascular diagnostic care at the pandemic's onset and 1 year later. Multivariable regression was used to determine factors associated with procedure volume recovery.RESULTS: Surveys were submitted from 669 centers in 107 countries. In multivariable regression, only lower-income status and physicians' psychological stress were significant in predicting recovery of cardiac testing.CONCLUSIONS: Cardiac diagnostic testing has yet to recover to prepandemic levels in lower-income countries. Worldwide, the decrease in standard stress testing is offset by greater use of advanced cardiac imaging modalities. Pandemic-related psychological stress among providers is widespread and associated with poor recovery of cardiac testing.

- Abstract
Intravascular hemolysis is a central feature of congenital and acquired hemolytic anemias, complement disorders, infectious diseases, and toxemias. Massive and/or chronic hemolysis is followed by the induction of inflammation, very often with severe damage of organs, which enhances the morbidity and mortality of hemolytic diseases. Galectin-3 (Gal-3) is a β-galactoside-binding lectin that modulates the functions of many immune cells, thus affecting inflammatory processes. Gal-3 is also one of the main regulators of fibrosis. The role of Gal-3 in the development of different kidney and liver diseases and the potential of therapeutic Gal-3 inhibition have been demonstrated. Therefore, the objective of this review is to discuss the possible effects of Gal-3 on the process of kidney and liver damage induced by intravascular hemolysis, as well as to shed light on the potential therapeutic targeting of Gal-3 in intravascular hemolysis., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflicts of interest. - Abstract
This detailed review focuses on retroperitoneal undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS), a particularly aggressive soft-tissue sarcoma that poses unique diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to its rarity and complex presentation. By documenting a new case of retroperitoneal UPS and conducting a comprehensive review of all known cases, this article aims to expand the existing body of knowledge on the epidemiology, molecular pathogenesis, and treatment strategies associated with this rare disease. The complexity of diagnosing UPS is emphasized given that it rarely occurs in the retroperitoneal space and its histological and molecular complexity often complicates its recognition. This review highlights the need for specialized diagnostic approaches, including advanced imaging techniques and histopathological studies, to accurately diagnose and stage the disease. In terms of treatment, this paper advocates a multidisciplinary approach that combines surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy and tailors it to individual patients to optimize treatment outcomes. This review highlights case studies that illustrate the effectiveness of surgical intervention in the treatment of these tumors and emphasize the importance of achieving clear surgical margins to prevent recurrence. Furthermore, this review discusses the potential of new molecular targets and the need for innovative therapies that could bring new hope to patients affected by this challenging sarcoma.

The growing availability of smart meter data has facilitated the development of energy-saving services like demand response, personalized energy feedback, and non-intrusive-load-monitoring applications, all of which heavily rely on advanced machine learning algorithms trained on energy consumption datasets. To ensure the accuracy and reliability of these services, real-world smart meter data collection is crucial. The Plegma dataset described in this paper addresses this need bfy providing whole- house aggregate loads and appliance-level consumption measurements at 10-second intervals from 13 different households over a period of one year. It also includes environmental data such as humidity and temperature, building characteristics, demographic information, and user practice routines to enable quantitative as well as qualitative analysis. Plegma is the first high-frequency electricity measurements dataset in Greece, capturing the consumption behavior of people in the Mediterranean area who use devices not commonly included in other datasets, such as AC and electric-water boilers. The dataset comprises 218 million readings from 88 installed meters and sensors. The collected data are available in CSV format., (© 2024. The Author(s).)

- Abstract
Vitamin K refers to a group of vitamins that play an important role in blood coagulation and regulation of bone and vascular metabolism. However, vitamin K
3 may give severe side effects in animal and humans when improperly added to food and feed due to its toxicity. Here, an electrochemical biosensor, based on the YaiB NADPH-dependent quinone reductase from Lactococcus lactis (YaiB), was developed to achieve rapid and redox probe-free detection of vitamin K3 . First, the ability of the carbon electrode to distinguish between 1,4-benzoquinone and hydroquinone was demonstrated. Then, we engineered YaiB to work as a bioreceptor immobilized at the electrode and its sensitivity and specificity to reduce vitamin K3 were demonstrated. Finally, to demonstrate the practical potential of the biosensor, we tested it directly in spiked milk samples, achieving 15-minute quantification of the vitamin K3 . The limit of detection was 0.87 µM and 4.1 µM in buffer and milk, respectively., Competing Interests: Declaration of Competing Interest The authors declare that they have no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper., (Copyright © 2023 Elsevier Ltd. - Abstract
This case report details a rare instance of a perforated jejunal gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) in a 76-year-old female patient. The patient presented with acute abdominal pain and distension without any changes in bowel habits or episodes of nausea and vomiting. Initial diagnostics, including abdominal plain radiography and ultrasonography, were inconclusive; however, a computed tomography (CT) scan revealed pneumoperitoneum and an irregular fluid collection suggestive of small intestine perforations. Surgical intervention uncovered a 35 mm jejunal GIST with a 10 mm perforation. Histopathological examination confirmed a mixed cell type GIST with high malignancy potential, further substantiated by immunohistochemistry markers CD117, DOG1, and vimentin. Molecular analysis illuminated the role of key oncogenes, primarily KIT and PDGFRA mutations, emphasizing the importance of molecular diagnostics in GIST management. Despite the severity of the presentation, the patient's postoperative recovery was favorable, highlighting the effectiveness of prompt surgical and multidisciplinary approaches in managing complex GIST cases.

- Abstract
This is the first investigation to perform an unsupervised cluster analysis of activities performed by individuals with lower limb amputation (ILLAs) and individuals without gait impairment, in free-living conditions. Eight individuals with no gait impairments and four ILLAs wore a thigh-based accelerometer and walked on an improvised route across a variety of terrains in the vicinity of their homes. Their physical activity data were clustered to extract 'unique' groupings in a low-dimension feature space in an unsupervised learning approach, and an algorithm was created to automatically distinguish such activities. After testing three dimensionality reduction methods-namely, principal component analysis (PCA), t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding (tSNE), and uniform manifold approximation and projection (UMAP)-we selected tSNE due to its performance and stable outputs. Cluster formation of activities via DBSCAN only occurred after the data were reduced to two dimensions via tSNE and contained only samples for a single individual. Additionally, through analysis of the t-SNE plots, appreciable clusters in walking-based activities were only apparent with ground walking and stair ambulation. Through a combination of density-based clustering and analysis of cluster distance and density, a novel algorithm inspired by the t-SNE plots, resulting in three proposed and validated hypotheses, was able to identify cluster formations that arose from ground walking and stair ambulation. Low dimensional clustering of activities has thus been found feasible when analyzing individual sets of data and can currently recognize stair and ground walking ambulation.

- Abstract
Appendiceal signet ring cell carcinoma (ASRCC) is a rare and aggressive form of appendiceal cancer, often presenting with nonspecific symptoms that overlap with acute appendicitis. Early diagnosis and appropriate management are crucial for improving patient outcomes in these rare malignancies. This case report and literature review aims to raise awareness among clinicians about ASRCC of the appendix as a cause of acute appendicitis and highlight the importance of considering this diagnosis in patients with atypical presentations or unexpected histopathological findings. We present a 65-year-old female patient with ASRCC who underwent successful surgical treatment and remains disease-free at the one-year follow-up. It also highlights the necessity of early detection and appropriate treatment in order to improve patient outcomes. In addition, a comprehensive literature review is provided, discussing the clinical presentation, histopathological characteristics, potential pathogenesis, treatment options, and prognosis of ASRCC.

- Abstract
With the massive, worldwide, smart metering roll-out, both energy suppliers and users are starting to tap into the potential of higher resolution energy readings for accurate billing, improved demand response, improved tariffs better tuned to users and the grid, and empowering end-users to know how much their individual appliances contribute to their electricity bills via nonintrusive load monitoring (NILM). A number of NILM approaches, based on machine learning (ML), have been proposed over the years, focusing on improving the NILM model performance. However, the trustworthiness of the NILM model itself has hardly been addressed. It is important to explain the underlying model and its reasoning to understand why the model underperforms in order to satisfy user curiosity and to enable model improvement. This can be done by leveraging naturally interpretable or explainable models as well as explainability tools. This paper adopts a naturally interpretable decision tree (DT)-based approach for a NILM multiclass classifier. Furthermore, this paper leverages explainability tools to determine local and global feature importance, and design a methodology that informs feature selection for each appliance class, which can determine how well a trained model will predict an appliance on any unseen test data, minimising testing time on target datasets. We explain how one or more appliances can negatively impact classification of other appliances and predict appliance and model performance of the REFIT-data trained models on unseen data of the same house and on unseen houses on the UK-DALE dataset. Experimental results confirm that models trained with the explainability-informed local feature importance can improve toaster classification performance from 65% to 80%. Additionally, instead of one five-classifier approach incorporating all five appliances, a three-classifier approach comprising a kettle, microwave, and dishwasher and a two-classifier comprising a toaster and washing machine improves classification performance for the dishwasher from 72% to 94% and the washing machine from 56% to 80%.

- Abstract
This study presents a new two compartmental model with, recently defined General fractional derivative. We review that concept of General fractional derivative and use the kernel function that generalizes the classical Caputo derivative in a mathematically consistent way. Next we use this model to study the release of antibiotic gentamicin in poly (vinyl alcohol)/gentamicin(PVA/Gent) hydrogel aimed for wound dressing in medical treatment of deep chronical wounds. The PVA/Gent hydrogel was prepared by physical cross linking of poly (vinyl alcohol) dispersion using freezing-thawing method, and then was swollen in gentamicin solution at 37 °C during 48 h. The concentration of released gentamicin was determined using a high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometer. The advantage of this model is the existence of new parameters in the definition of fractional derivative, as compared with classical fractional compartmental models. The model proposed here in the special case reduces to the classical (integer order) linear two compartmental model as well as classical fractional order two compartmental model since it has more parameters that are determined from the experimental results., (© 2022. - Abstract
Slope instabilities caused by heavy rainfall, man-made activity or earthquakes can be characterised by seismic events. To minimise mortality and infrastructure damage, a good understanding of seismic signal properties characterising slope failures is therefore crucial to classify seismic events recorded from continuous recordings effectively. However, there are limited contributions towards understanding the importance of feature selection for the classification of seismic signals from continuous noisy recordings from multiple channels/sensors. This paper first proposes a novel multi-channel event-detection scheme based on Neyman-Pearson lemma and Multi-channel Coherency Migration (MCM) on the stacked signal across multi-channels. Furthermore, this paper adapts graph-based feature weight optimisation as feature selection, exploiting the signal's physical characteristics, to improve signal classification. Specifically, we alternatively optimise the feature weight and classification label with graph smoothness and semidefinite programming (SDP). Experimental results show that with expert interpretation, compared with the conventional short-time average/long-time average (STA/LTA) detection approach, our detection method identified 614 more seismic events in five days. Furthermore, feature selection, especially via graph-based feature weight optimisation, provides more focused feature sets with less than half of the original number of features, at the same time enhancing the classification performance; for example, with feature selection, the Graph Laplacian Regularisation classifier (GLR) raised the rockfall and slide quake sensitivities to 92% and 88% from 89% and 85%, respectively.

- Abstract
This paper proposes energy-efficient solutions for the smart light-emitting diode (LED) lighting system, which provides minimal energy consumption while simultaneously satisfying illuminance requirements of the users in a typical office space. In addition to artificial light from dimmable LED lamps, natural daylight coming from external sources, such as windows, is considered as a source of illumination in an indoor environment. In order to reduce total energy consumption, the smart LED system has the possibility to dim LED lamps, resulting in reduced LED output power. Additionally, various LED lamps' functionality, such as semi-angle of the half illuminance and LED tilting, are introduced as an additional parameter to be optimized to achieve greater energy saving of the designed system. In order to properly exploit external lighting, the idea to reduce overall daylight intensity at a users' location is realized by the option to dim the windows with a shading factor. Based on the users' requirements for a minimal and desired level of illumination, the proposed optimization problems can be solved by implementing different optimization algorithms. The obtained solutions are able to give instructions to a smart LED system to manage and control system parameters (LEDs dimming levels, semi-angles of the half illuminance, orientation of LEDs, the shading factor) in order to design total illumination, which ensures minimal energy consumption and users' satisfaction related to illuminance requirements.

- Abstract
Background and Objectives: Mounting evidence implicates oxidative damage in prostate carcinogenesis, contributing to modifications of macromolecules that drive cellular malignant transformation. Functional single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of enzymes involved in redox homeostasis can disrupt pro-oxidant-antioxidant balance, leading to accumulation of reactive oxygen species and oxidative damage. We investigated the potential role of genetic polymorphisms of antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase 1 ( GPX1 rs1050450) and superoxide dismutase 2 ( SOD2 rs4880) and regulatory antioxidant protein nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 ( Nrf2 rs6721961) in the susceptibility to prostate cancer development (PC) and prognosis. Materials and Methods: We conducted a case-control study consisting of 235 patients with PC and 240 controls. Gene polymorphisms were determined by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and polymerase chain reaction with confronting two-pair primers (PCR-CTTP) methods. Multiple risk models were composed to inspect the separate and mutual effect of multiple genes and in combination with acquired contributory factors on the risk of PC development. Results: Independently, carriers of at least one SOD2*C allele had increased risk of PC development, which was significantly further amplified in advanced statistical models. When tested in combination, individuals with both SOD2*C allele and Nrf2*C/C genotype were also at increased risk of PC development, which was augmented when combined with acquired contributory factors. During the mean 75 ± 25 months of follow-up, investigated gene polymorphisms did not affect overall survival. Conclusion: Our results suggest that these gene polymorphisms could be used as risk biomarkers of PC evolution.

- Abstract
This pilot study aimed to investigate the implementation of supervised classifiers and a neural network for the recognition of activities carried out by Individuals with Lower Limb Amputation (ILLAs), as well as individuals without gait impairment, in free living conditions. Eight individuals with no gait impairments and four ILLAs wore a thigh-based accelerometer and walked on an improvised route in the vicinity of their homes across a variety of terrains. Various machine learning classifiers were trained and tested for recognition of walking activities. Additional investigations were made regarding the detail of the activity label versus classifier accuracy and whether the classifiers were capable of being trained exclusively on non-impaired individuals' data and could recognize physical activities carried out by ILLAs. At a basic level of label detail, Support Vector Machines (SVM) and Long-Short Term Memory (LSTM) networks were able to acquire 77-78% mean classification accuracy, which fell with increased label detail. Classifiers trained on individuals without gait impairment could not recognize activities carried out by ILLAs. This investigation presents the groundwork for a HAR system capable of recognizing a variety of walking activities, both for individuals with no gait impairments and ILLAs.
