Abstract We study holographic entropy inequalities and their structural properties by making use of a judicious grouping of terms into certain multipartite information quantities. This allows us to recast cumbersome entropic expressions into much simpler ones which share interestingly rigid structures. By performing a systematic search over some of these structures, we are able to discover more than 1800 novel entropy inequalities for six parties, thereby demonstrating that these recastings provide a fruitful generating technique for uncovering new holographic entropy inequalities. In attempting to interpret the corresponding sign-definite quantities as correlation measures, we also obtain a no-go result: the superbalance property of holographic entropy inequalities turns out to preclude them from being monotonic under partial tracing. In the process, we also comment on the geometrical significance of multipartite information quantities and present various structural relations amongst them.

Abstract Introduction Type 2 diabetes is a major public health issue in Mexico due to its high prevalence and its projection for the coming years for this disease. Findings on multidisciplinary care related to chronic diseases have proven effective, based on measurement of patient-centered outcomes, The Center of Comprehensive Care for Patients with Diabetes (CAIPaDi) is a multidisciplinary program focused on reducing diabetes complications. This case study aims to illustrate the results of implementing health outcomes measurements and demonstrate the beneficial effects of establishing a comprehensive model of care through a patient-centered approach. Methods A descriptive analysis of the comprehensive care indicators of patients with type 2 diabetes treated in the CAIPaDi program between 2013 and 2023 was conducted. The results were structured according to the standard set of outcomes for diabetes proposed by the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurements (ICHOM). Results The baseline and prospective registration of consultations was completed for five years, complying with 25 of the 26 indicators of the ICHOM set. Abstract Plasmatic uric acid (UA) has been inconsistently associated with diabetic retinopathy (DR). Specific sight-threatening stages of DR have not been studied for their association with UA. Cross-sectional, comparative study. Between 2014 and 2018 we recruited 210 Mexican individuals > 18 years-old with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Clinical, ophthalmological and biochemical assessment was performed with standardized funduscopic examination. Certified readers classified DR stages. The association between DR and UA was assessed by multiple logistic regression analysis, calculating odds ratios (OR) and 95% CI, after adjustment for covariates. BackgroundNutritional diagnosis involves identifying a nutritional problem, its cause, and the signs that indicate it to guide appropriate treatment. Few studies report on the most prevalent nutritional diagnoses in people living with type 2 diabetes (T2D).ObjectiveTo define nutritional diagnoses across different domains and their association with metabolic, anthropometric, and dietary parameters in individuals with T2D.MethodsA personalized nutritional intervention was conducted using the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) model, which encompasses assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and evaluation, utilizing standardized terminology from the Nutrition Care Process Terminology (NCPT). Two dietitians, trained and standardized in applying the NCP and NCPT, performed patient assessments and established the diagnoses. Patients over 18 years old with a diagnosis of T2D for less than 5 years were included.ResultsData from 2,050 patients were analyzed, of whom 55.3% were women, and 44.7% were men, with a median age of 57 and 54 years, respectively. The most prevalent nutritional diagnosis was excessive energy and carbohydrate intake. Diagnoses were distributed across domains: Intake (55.9%), Behavioral/Environmental (32.7%), Clinical (10.2%), and 1.2% without nutritional diagnosis. La salinidad es un problema en zonas agrícolas al comprometer el crecimiento de los cultivos. Las variedades modernas de chile se adaptan poco a esta condición; por lo que la búsqueda de variabilidad en plantas de chile silvestre ayudaría para crear variedades mejoradas. El objetivo fue determinar los efectos de la salinidad y la distribución de la variación fenotípica entre poblaciones, entre y dentro de familias, y estimar la proporción de esta variación fenotípica que tiene una base genética. Se probaron tres tratamientos (0, 25 y 50 mM NaCl) en seis poblaciones de chile silvestre del Noroeste de México. Se observaron diferencias significativas entre tratamientos para todos los caracteres. La salinidad redujo todos los rasgos con excepción de grosor de hoja; fue mayor con 50 mM, siendo la materia seca de raíz (45.2%), hojas (38.7%), área foliar (37.6%), biomasa total (33.7%) los rasgos más sensibles. La mayor variación fenotípica se distribuyó dentro de familias. El mayor coeficiente de variación fue en peso seco de raíz (40%). Las poblaciones mantuvieron variación en todos los rasgos excepto en altura de planta; Presa Oviachic fue superior en peso seco de planta, raíz, tallo y hojas, área foliar, número de hojas y diámetro de tallo; Mazocahui en grosor de hoja; Lo de Vega y Yecorato en lecturas SPAD. Los niveles de NaCl influyeron en la expresión fenotípica de los rasgos estudiados. La variabilidad detectada en las poblaciones resulta promisoria para iniciar un proceso de domesticación en chile silvestre.

Infographics have been recognised as effective visual tools for concise and accessible communication of data and information in various higher education disciplines, particularly in medical education. However, there is a lack of research on their impact on professional skills, difficulty levels, motivation, and overall satisfaction in health science students. Thus, the present study aimed to analyse the knowledge and usage of graphical resources among health science students and evaluate their competencies, the level of challenge they encountered, and their motivation and satisfaction after completing an infographic creation activity. The InfoHealth educational innovation project, conducted by five teachers from the Faculty of Medicine, served as the context for this study, with 143 students voluntarily participating. The intervention involved students working in groups of 2–3 and selecting their own topics for the infographics while receiving instruction, online guidance, and feedback from teachers. A questionnaire was administered to assess students’ perception of skill development and satisfaction with the activity. The findings revealed that schemes were the most recognized and used graphical summaries, compared to synoptic tables and Venn diagrams. The activity led to an increase in professional skills acquisition, motivation, and satisfaction, positively impacting students’ interest in evidence-based practice and reinforcing their knowledge. This study highlights the potential of infographics as a pedagogical tool for competency development and student engagement in health science education, suggesting the need for further research comparing infographics with traditional study methods and involving multidisciplinary teams to promote essential skills for future clinical practice.

Abstract The biochemical pathway for propionic acid (PA) production is an interesting alternative that can include the utilization of biomass as feedstock. This study evaluated the utilization of Agave bagasse (AB), a lignocellulosic residue, to produce PA by Propionibacterium acidipropinici in batch systems (125 mL‐hermetic bottles and 1000 mL‐bioreactor). The process included a steam explosion pretreatment at 142°C for 15 min and enzymatic hydrolysis, where solid loading (2.75% and 5% in pretreatment and 2.5%, 3.75%, and 5% in enzymatic hydrolysis) was evaluated. Furthermore, the enzymatic concentrations of 18.3 filter paper unit (FPU)/gAB (1×) of Cellic® CTec2 and 1.5× and 3× were tested. The yields of total carbohydrates (TC) obtained at the two solid loadings tested in the pretreatment were statistically similar, but the 3x enzymatic concentration enhanced the yields of TC, glucose, and xylose (0.23 ± 0.01, 0.15 ± 0.01 and 0.03 ± 0.01 g/gAB, respectively). The hydrolysates obtained under these conditions were evaluated as carbon sources for PA production, obtaining a productivity of 0.069 ± 0.006 g/L h and a yield product/substrate of 0.44 gPA/gTC. The control of pH in the culture reduced the fermentation time in the bioreactor by 52% compared with the hermetic bottles without pH control. The potential of hydrolysates as carbon sources for PA production was evidenced, as approximately 50% of the initial carbon was converted to this product. The observed yield product/substrate was similar to those reported from hydrolysates of diverse biomass types, pretreatments, or enzymatic cocktails and the same or related microorganisms. However, the system studied has advantages, such as not requiring the addition of chemical or detoxification stage, and lower temperature and time compared to other pretreatments.

Abstract Chemoresistance is a common problem in ovarian cancer (OvCa) treatment, where resistant cells, in response to chemotherapy, secrete small extracellular vesicles (sEVs), known as chemo‐sEVs, that transfer resistance to recipient cells. sEVs are formed as intraluminal vesicles (ILVs) within multivesicular endosomes (MVEs), whose trafficking is regulated by Ras‐associated binding (RAB) GTPases that mediate sEVs secretion or lysosomal degradation. A decrease in lysosomal function can promote sEVs secretion, but the relationship between MVEs trafficking pathways and sEVs secretion in OvCa chemoresistance is unclear. Here, we show that A2780cis cisplatin (CCDP) resistant OvCa cells had an increased number of MVEs and ILVs structures, higher levels of Endosomal Sorting Complex Required for Transport (ESCRTs) machinery components, and RAB27A compared to A2780 CDDP‐sensitive OvCa cells. CDDP promoted the secretion of chemo‐sEVs in A2780cis cells, enriched in DNA damage response proteins. A2780cis cells exhibited poor lysosomal function with reduced levels of RAB7, essential in MVEs‐Lysosomal trafficking. The silencing of RAB27A in A2780cis cells prevents the Chemo‐EVs secretion, reduces its chemoresistance and restores lysosomal function and levels of RAB7, switching them into an A2780‐like cellular phenotype. Enhancing lysosomal function with rapamycin reduced chemo‐sEVs secretion. Our results suggest that adjusting the balance between secretory MVEs and lysosomal MVEs trafficking could be a promising strategy for overcoming CDDP chemoresistance in OvCa.

Mining and quarrying were important economic activities in Europe in past centuries, but during the 20th century, raw materials became vital to societal development. Mining has been subject to fluctuations related to wars, economic crises, and advances in environmental rights. A series of events led some European countries, such as Spain, to assume a leading position in the market for certain raw materials, such as tungsten. However, most of Europe’s mines have been abandoned. This paper considers several postindustrial heritage sites that can used to illustrate how metal and stone were extracted in past centuries. Such sites have become a tourist attraction in the context of heritage in some countries. This area in western Spain, which contains ancestral quarries that helped build the architectural heritage of UNESCO World Heritage Cities and artisanal mines that contributed to building the economy of an extremely poor population, has a story to tell. All these mines and quarries can be used to explain the cultural heritage of the area as part of a postindustrial heritage landscape.

Abstract Prognostic scales may help to optimize the use of hospital resources, which may be of prime interest in the context of a fast spreading pandemics. Nonetheless, such tools are underdeveloped in the context of COVID-19. In the present article we asked whether accurate prognostic scales could be developed to optimize the use of hospital resources. We retrospectively studied 467 files of hospitalized patients after COVID-19. The odds ratios for 16 different biomarkers were calculated, those that were significantly associated were screened by a Pearson’s correlation, and such index was used to establish the mathematical function for each marker. Alfabetización Financiera y Fragilidad Financiera en México El objetivo de esta investigación es analizar la relación entre la fragilidad financiera de los mexicanos y las siguientes variables: alfabetización financiera, ahorro, tenencia de activos, shocks financieros, educación financiera e inclusión financiera. También se identifican las características socioeconómicas y demográficas asociadas a la fragilidad financiera. Se utiliza un modelo Probit dicotómico estimado con datos de la Encuesta Nacional de Inclusión Financiera, 2021. Los resultados muestran que la alfabetización financiera, el ahorro (formal e informal), la educación financiera y la tenencia de activos se relacionan negativamente con la probabilidad de ser financieramente frágil. Los altos ingresos y la tenencia de ahorros formales e informales son los predictores más robustos de fragilidad financiera, con un efecto marginal de -9.40%, -5.34% y -5.27%, respectivamente. La probabilidad de ser financieramente frágil está relacionada con bajos ingresos y bajo nivel educativo, así como haber experimentado sobreendeudamiento en el último año. Los hallazgos pueden ser de utilidad para el diseño de estrategias de educación financiera que brinden a la población capacitación y de esta forma protección contra la disminución de ingresos.

ABSTRACTType 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic disease that affects a person's general well-being. Current evidence sets an association between psychological well-being and controlled metabolic parameters. People newly diagnosed with T2DM show higher prevalence of depression and anxiety symptoms. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) has effectively improved psychological adjustment, but most studies do not specifically address recently diagnosed people nor usually include long-term follow-up measures.Objective We sought to assess changes in psychological variables in people with newly diagnosed diabetes who received a cognitive–behavioral intervention, within a comprehensive care program.Method 1208 adults with T2DM (≤5 years) who attended a national health institute in Mexico received a cognitive–behavioral intervention aimed at improving quality of life and reducing emotional distress that often interferes with diabetes control, as well as evaluating cognitive and emotional resources and social support. Measures of quality of life, diabetes-related distress, anxiety and depression questionnaires were compared at pre-test, post-test and follow up using Friedman's ANOVAs. Multiple logistic regression models evaluated glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and triglycerides control at post-test and follow up.Results Questionnaire measures and metabolic variables significantly decreased symptomatology at post-test and these changes maintained at follow-up. Significant associations were found between quality-of-life scores and HbA1c and triglycerides levels in post-test and follow-up. Diabetes-related distress scores increased the odds of having adequate HbA1c control at post-test.Conclusion This study contributes to the evidence on the importance of considering psychological factors as part of comprehensive diabetes care to improve quality of life and emotional burden and facilitate the achievement of metabolic goals.

Se analizó la estructura poblacional de Centropages furcatus asociada a estructuras hidrográficas a finales de la primavera de 2004. La distribución de los diferentes estadios de copepoditos de C. furcatus fue analizada a partir de las muestras de zooplancton obtenidas con una red bongo. En la bahía de La Paz, la hidrografía y la velocidad geostrófica relativa al fondo revelaron la presencia de un giro ciclónico en la cuenca Alfonso y un frente termohalino cerca de Boca Grande. La distribución de la concentración de clorofila a integrada verticalmente mostró valores máximos en el centro del giro y en la región del frente, lo que evidenció que ambas estructuras hidrográficas favorecen la productividad biológica debido al flujo de nutrientes hacia la capa eufótica en el giro y a la acumulación de nutrientes en el frente termohalino. Los resultados mostraron que la variación espacial de C. furcatus estuvo influenciada por ambas estructuras hidrográficas. En el giro ciclónico se observó una distribución diferencial por etapa de desarrollo, con mayor densidad poblacional de los primeros estadios de copepoditos en el centro del giro, como consecuencia de la alta concentración de clorofila a por el enriquecimiento de nutrientes en la capa eufótica, debido al bombeo de Ekman. La densidad poblacional de copépodos fue mayor en el frente termohalino que en el interior del giro ciclónico, debido a que el frente actúa como una zona reproductiva de la especie que mantiene una densidad poblacional estable para los adultos de la bahía y del golfo de California.

A sensory diagnostic of organic coffee from Otomí-Tepehua zone of Hidalgo state was carried out, which were subjected to 4 types of roasting: Medium roasting, Intense roasting, Very Intense roasting, and Artisanal roasting using a mud “comal.” Also, a Blend was made (Medium, Intense, and Very Intense toasted coffee in 1:1:1 ratio). Sensory analysis was made using the verbal methods Check-All-That-Apply (CATA) and Flash profile. It was used 44 sensory attributes in CATA method, from which 10 had significant differences (p > .05). Flash profile method grouped the coffee samples according to their descriptor similarity mentioned by the consumers, and a nine-point hedonic test was also carried out. Both methods described all the coffee samples with similar sensory profiles, the results suggested that the Blend made a sensory profile similar to Artisanal roasting coffee. Nevertheless, the consumers differed in preference due to the intensity of the attributes was different of coffee roasting.

Abstract We find a new on-shell replica wormhole in a computation of the generating functional of JT gravity coupled to matter. We show that this saddle has lower action than the disconnected one, and that it is stable under restriction to real Lorentzian sections, but can be unstable otherwise. The behavior of the classical generating functional thus may be strongly dependent on the signature of allowed perturbations. As part of our analysis, we give an LM-style construction for computing the on-shell action of replicated manifolds even as the number of boundaries approaches zero, including a type of one-step replica symmetry breaking that is necessary to capture the contribution of the new saddle. Our results are robust against quantum corrections; in fact, we find evidence that such corrections may sometimes stabilize this new saddle.

Abstract The holographic entropy cone characterizes the relations between entanglement entropies for a spatial partitioning of the boundary spacetime of a holographic CFT in any state describing a classical bulk geometry. We argue that the holographic entropy cone, for an arbitrary number of parties, can be reconstructed from more fundamental data determined solely by subadditivity of quantum entropy. We formulate certain conjectures about graph models of holographic entanglement, for which we provide strong evidence, and rigorously prove that they all imply that such a reconstruction is possible. Our conjectures (except only for the weakest) further imply that the necessary data is remarkably simple. In essence, all one needs to know to reconstruct the holographic entropy cone, is a certain subset of the extreme rays of this simpler “subadditivity cone”, namely those which can be realized in holography. This recasting of the bewildering entanglement structure of geometric states into primal building blocks paves the way to distilling the essence of holography for the emergence of a classical bulk spacetime.

Background: The implementation of the “Step by Step” educational program to reduce diabetic foot events has reported favorable results in several countries. Objective: To describe the implementation process of the program to reduce diabetic foot amputations in Mexico and the application of essential indicators for monitoring. Materials and methods: From June 2018 to October 2022, basic and advanced courses on the prevention and treatment of diabetic foot were taught. Health professionals attended and reported the actions they carried out 1 year later. In a clinical center, the essential indicators were recorded during 5 years of follow-up in foot care. Results: Ninety-two health-care professionals were trained in face-toface mode and 638 in virtual mode. Fifty-two replicas of courses were reported, with a record of 1,379 attendees. Sixteen sites sent their actions, being the most frequent the review of > 80% of patients, standardization of evaluation procedures and registration of indicators in files, courses for nursing staff and patients, and preparation of didactic material. In the Center of Comprehensive Care for the Patient with Diabetes, 14 indicators were implemented, and in 5 years no diabetic foot amputation has been reported. Conclusion: It is feasible to implement an educational strategy for the prevention of timely care of the diabetic foot to reduce the rate of amputations in our environment.

Antecedentes: Los datos sobre discapacidad visual (DV) en pacientes con diabetes son necesarios para orientar los recursos económicos y humanos que disminuyan su prevalencia. Objetivo: Estimar la prevalencia de DV relacionada con retinopatía diabética en pacientes con diabetes tipo 2 en un entorno hospitalario. Material y métodos: Estudio transversal realizado de 2014 a 2019 en una consulta externa de oftalmología. Cualquier DV se definió como agudeza visual corregida con agujero estenopeico en el ojo con mejor visión (≥ 0.24 logMAR). Se evaluó la presencia de retinopatía diabética, edema macular diabético (EMD) y cataratas. Resultados: Se incluyeron 840 pacientes; la mediana de duración de la diabetes fue de 15 años. La prevalencia de DV fue de 30 %. Se encontró retinopatía diabética en 62 % (30 % tenía retinopatía diabética que amenazaba la visión [RDAV]); 17 %, EMD y 3 %, cataratas. La razón de momios para DV moderada o de mayor gravedad fue de 9.02 para RDAV (p < 0.001), 5.89 para EMD referible (p = 0.001) y 2.51 para catarata (p = 0.006). Conclusión: Treinta por ciento de los participantes tenía algún grado de DV. La DV moderada o de mayor gravedad mostró una fuerte asociación con RDAV y EMD referible.

Background: Populations of Capsicum annuum var. glabriusculum are found in a wide portion of the Mexican territory, and it is ancestor of many cultivated forms relevant for the Mexican diet. Questions: What are the proportions of phenotypic and genetic variation distributed among its sampled regions, populations and within populations. How does the climate correlates to the population’s phenotypic variation. Species: Capsicum annuum var. glabriusculum. Study sites and years: 24 populations form three regions were sampled: Northwest, states of Sonora and Sinaloa; South: Oaxaca and Southeast Tabasco and Yucatán, in Mexico. The experiment was performed between years 2016 to 2018. Methods: Fruits from single plants were collected in wild populations. Plants were grown in a greenhouse. Nested ANOVAS were performed to estimate phenotypic and genetic variance components for different spatial scales. Climate correlation was estimated through univariate and multivariate methods. Results: 49.8 % of phenotypic variation was detected within families, 11.1 % among families (within populations), 21.3 % among populations and 17.6 % among regions. The genetic basis of phenotypic variation was 50.1% on average, for this genetic variation 34.2 % was found among regions, 39.4% among populations and 26.3 % within populations. Climate factors generated different patterns of correlations for vegetative, foliar and reproductive traits. Conclusions: Northwest plants were shorth, with small leaves and large fruits, Southeast plants were tall, with large leaves and small fruits, South plants developed intermediate phenotypic traits. Climate explained a large proportion of phenotypic differentiation.

This study aimed to investigate the influence of head position on the electromyographical activity of the core muscles during the prone plank exercise. Twenty healthy participants were enrolled in this study. Muscle activation was registered using surface electromyography in the rectus abdominis, external oblique, internal oblique, and the lumbar portion of erector spinae. Three plank conditions were randomly evaluated, varying the position of the cranio-cervical segment during the plank performance (neutral, flexion and extension). The activation of each individual examined muscle and the overall core muscle activity (Total Intensity), as well as the ratings of perceived exertion were analysed with statistical significance set at p < 0.05. Flexion revealed significantly higher Total Intensity values compared to neutral and extension (p < 0.001; effect size (ES) > 0.90). The rectus abdominis presented larger activation in flexion compared to the other variations (p < 0.05; ES > 0.70). Flexion elicited a greater response for both sides of external oblique when compared to neutral and extension, and also for both sides of internal oblique compared to the other conditions (p < 0.05; ES > 0.70). Both flexion and extension reported higher exertion rating values compared to neutral (p < 0.05; ES > 0.90). Head position influenced the electromyographical activation of core musculature, showing highest values when performing the plank in a head flexion.

Highlights REVIVAL is a multicenter, open-label, randomized, controlled study to compare the standard low doses of intravenous dexamethasone with weight-adjusted low doses of intranasal dexamethasone. Intranasal dexamethasone can reach the respiratory tract more effectively than intravenous administration. Intranasal dexamethasone can reach the central nervous system in therapeutic concentrations, even at low doses. REVIVAL aims to reduce central failures and sequelae by controlling not only systemic inflammation but also neuroinflammation.

La migración venezolana es uno de los hechos migratorios más importantes en América Latina en la última década. Millones de personas salieron de Venezuela, siendo Colombia su principal destino. Esto significa un desafío para la integración, donde las mujeres han sido quienes han estado en una mayor condición de precariedad. Esta investigación tiene por objetivo determinar cómo han cambiado las condiciones de vida de las mujeres venezolanas migrantes en Colombia en el contexto de la pandemia. Este trabajo se realiza a partir de una metodología mixta que utiliza datos de la Gran Encuesta Integrada de Hogares, febrero y diciembre de 2020, el reporte GIFMM Colombia: Evaluación Conjunta de Necesidades ante Covid-19 de Junio del 2020, y entrevistas semiestructuradas a catorce mujeres en Bogotá, Medellín, Cali y Barranquilla. A partir de esta información se infiere que la condición migrante venezolana y de género son factores que condicionan fuertemente el acceso al empleo, salud y vivienda digna, siendo las mujeres en situación migratoria irregular las más afectadas antes y durante la pandemia. Además, que la dependencia a las redes de apoyo, los eventos de xenofobia y las afectaciones a la salud mental son aspectos clave para comprender las dificultades que experimentan las migrantes en la nueva normalidad.

Antecedentes: Abies hidalgensis es una especie endémica del estado de Hidalgo, México, adscrita en la Lista Roja de la IUCN en la categoría VuD2, que se ha confundido con A. guatemalensis en algunas poblaciones donde hay extracción de madera en rollo reportada como A. religiosa, lo que genera duda sobre las o la especie que se distribuyen y aprovechan en el estado de Hidalgo. Preguntas y / o Hipótesis: ¿Qué especie o especies del género Abies se distribuyen y aprovechan en Hidalgo, México?,¿Cuál es la distribución geográfica de A. hidalgensis? Especies de estudio: Abies hidalgensis, A. religiosa. Sitio y años de estudio: Municipios de Acaxochitlán, Acoculco, Agua Blanca de Iturbide, Epazoyucan, Mineral del Monte, Pachuca, Singuilucan, Tenango de Doria, Tepeapulco y Zimapán, en el estado de Hidalgo. Años 2015 a 2017. Métodos: Se analizaron 18 caracteres morfológicos mediante análisis de funciones discriminantes. Se estimó la diferenciación genética a partir del análisis de tres microsatélites nucleares desarrollados para A. guatemalensis. Resultados: Abies hidalgensis se distribuye al sureste y Abies religiosa en la zona centro-sur de Hidalgo. Los caracteres morfológicos distintivos son: canales resiníferos, forma del ápice, y caracteres morfológicos asociados a los conos ovulados y las semillas. Los estudios genéticos indican que Abies sp. muestra mayor divergencia y diversidad genética con respecto a A. hidalgensis y A. religiosa. El coeficiente de endogamia es mayor en A. religiosa. Conclusiones: En el estado Hidalgo se distribuyen dos especies del género Abies.

Abstract Agricultural wastes are an environmental and economic problem that countries must strive to solve as soon as possible. White-rot fungi can take advantage of these wastes through an efficient process involving the bioconversion of lignocellulosic materials. Therefore, this work has used pine needles (Pinus pseudostrobus) and nutshells (Carya illinoinensis), relevant wastes in Mexico, as substrates for growing three fungal strains (Ganoderma lucidum, Lentinula edodes, and Pleurotus ostreatus) on PDA plates supplemented with these materials. Besides, the capacity to produce lignocellulolytic enzymes by these three fungi through solid-state fermentation has been evaluated using pine needles and nutshells along with barley straw. The relevant results suggest that nutshells are a potential substrate for growing G. lucidum (mycelial growth rate of 0.758 cm d-1). Albeit pine needles waste has allowed G. lucidum growth (0.402 cm d-1), L. edodes and P. ostreatus growth on PDA supplemented plates were not observed. Further to this, nutshells or pine needles combined with barley straw were used as substrates through solid-state fermentation to produce lignocellulolytic enzymes (cellulase, xylanase, and laccase). G. lucidum presented the highest cellulase productivity (3.03 ± 0.34 IU/gdm·d) using nutshells and barley straw (BS_NS) as substrates, while it was half using pine needles and barley straw (BS_PN) (1.35 ± 0.20 IU/gdm·d). The results were similar for xylanase productivity because G. lucidum produced 4.80 ± 0.61 IU/gdm·d using BS_PN, slightly higher than the BS_NS (3.79 ± 0.29 IU/gdm·). Finally, nutshells might be a suitable substrate for the growth of white-rot fungi, mainly the G. lucidum strain, making it an ecological alternative for future biotechnological applications.

Abstract Quantum states with geometric duals are known to satisfy a stricter set of entropy inequalities than those obeyed by general quantum systems. The set of allowed entropies derived using the Ryu-Takayanagi (RT) formula defines the Holographic Entropy Cone (HEC). These inequalities are no longer satisfied once general quantum corrections are included by employing the Quantum Extremal Surface (QES) prescription. Nevertheless, the structure of the QES formula allows for a controlled study of how quantum contributions from bulk entropies interplay with HEC inequalities. In this paper, we initiate an exploration of this problem by relating bulk entropy constraints to boundary entropy inequalities. In particular, we show that requiring the bulk entropies to satisfy the HEC implies that the boundary entropies also satisfy the HEC. Further, we also show that requiring the bulk entropies to obey monogamy of mutual information (MMI) implies the boundary entropies also obey MMI.

Reportamos el redescubriento del murciélago cara rayada mayor (Vampyrodes major) en el estado de Tabasco, México, después de 60 años. Los registros se basan en dos individuos capturados con redes de niebla dentro del área natural protegida Cañón del Usumacinta, municipio de Tenosique. Éstos registros confirman su procedencia en el estado y representan los registros más recientes en la región sureste de México.

Macroautophagy and the ubiquitin proteasome system work as an interconnected network in the maintenance of cellular homeostasis. Indeed, efficient activation of macroautophagy upon nutritional deprivation is sustained by degradation of preexisting proteins by the proteasome. However, the specific substrates that are degraded by the proteasome in order to activate macroautophagy are currently unknown. By quantitative proteomic analysis we identified several proteins downregulated in response to starvation independently of ATG5 expression. Among them, the most significant was HERPUD1, an ER membrane protein with low expression and known to be degraded by the proteasome under normal conditions. Contrary, under ER stress, levels of HERPUD1 increased rapidly due to a blockage in its proteasomal degradation. Thus, we explored whether HERPUD1 stability could work as a negative regulator of autophagy. In this work, we expressed a version of HERPUD1 with its ubiquitin-like domain (UBL) deleted, which is known to be crucial for its proteasome degradation. In comparison to HERPUD1-WT, we found the UBL-deleted version caused a negative role on basal and induced macroautophagy. Unexpectedly, we found stabilized HERPUD1 promotes ER remodeling independent of unfolded protein response activation observing an increase in stacked-tubular structures resembling previously described tubular ER rearrangements. Importantly, a phosphomimetic S59D mutation within the UBL mimics the phenotype observed with the UBL-deleted version including an increase in HERPUD1 stability and ER remodeling together with a negative role on autophagy. Moreover, we found UBL-deleted version and HERPUD1-S59D trigger an increase in cellular size, whereas HERPUD1-S59D also causes an increased in nuclear size. Interestingly, ER remodeling by the deletion of the UBL and the phosphomimetic S59D version led to an increase in the number and function of lysosomes. In addition, the UBL-deleted version and phosphomimetic S59D version established a tight ER-lysosomal network with the presence of extended patches of ER-lysosomal membrane-contact sites condition that reveals an increase of cell survival under stress conditions. Altogether, we propose stabilized HERPUD1 downregulates macroautophagy favoring instead a closed interplay between the ER and lysosomes with consequences in drug-cell stress survival.

Latest advances in the field of cancer immunotherapy have developed the (Chimeric Antigen Receptor) CAR-T cell therapy. This therapy was first used in hematological malignancies which obtained promising results; therefore, the use of CAR-T cells has become a popular approach for treating non-solid tumors. CAR-T cells consist of T-lymphocytes that are engineered to express an artificial receptor against any surface antigen of our choice giving us the capacity of offering precise and personalized treatment. This leaded to the development of CAR-T cells for treating solid tumors with the hope of obtaining the same result; however, their use in solid tumor and their efficacy have not achieved the expected results. The reason of these results is because solid tumors have some peculiarities that are not present in hematological malignancies. In this review we explain how CAR-T cells are made, their mechanism of action, adverse effect and how solid tumors can evade their action, and also we summarize their use in colorectal cancer and peritoneal carcinomatosis.

Aparte de las actividades vinculadas a la docencia, la investigación formativa es otro de los grandes ejes asociados a la educación superior a nivel global: semilleros de investigación, trabajos de grado, proyectos de aula, entre otros aspectos son relevantes para pensar este aspecto que marca el devenir universitario. En este sentido, este documento tiene por objetivo generar una reflexión acerca de la forma y contenido como se han implementado los procesos de investigación formativa en Colombia. Para alcanzarlo, se parte de un análisis documental, en el que se analiza la producción científica acerca del problema aquí esbozado para después plantear algunas reflexiones sobre este proceso en las Instituciones de Educación Superior (IES) colombianas. En su estructura, este artículo está dividido en tres bloques: El primero se dedica a establecer un panorama de la investigación en Colombia a partir de datos sociales y económicos. El segundo pretende establecer cuáles son aquellos aspectos de investigación asociados a las IES en Colombia; como consecuencia, las categorías asociadas a las líneas de investigación, estatus del profesor, inversión en investigación, entre otros aspectos son constitutivos de este apartado. Finalmente, las reflexiones acerca de la investigación formativa aplicada a Colombia se presentan a manera de conclusiones, donde se destaca la manera difusa con la que se define este tipo de investigación en Colombia, la necesidad de un nuevo planteamiento del uso de recursos y métodos por parte de los profesores y lo cerrado que pueden llegar a ser los espacios de investigación formativa en las IES.

Early-onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC; age younger than 50 years) incidence has been steadily increasing in recent decades worldwide. The need for new biomarkers for EOCRC prevention strategies is undeniable. In this study, we aimed to explore whether an aging factor, such as telomere length (TL), could be a useful tool in EOCRC screening. The absolute leukocyte TL from 87 microsatellite stable EOCRC patients and 109 healthy controls (HC) with the same range of age, was quantified by Real Time Quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). Then, leukocyte whole-exome sequencing (WES) was performed to study the status of the genes involved in TL maintenance (hTERT, TERC, DKC1, TERF1, TERF2, TERF2IP, TINF2, ACD, and POT1) in 70 sporadic EOCRC cases from the original cohort. We observed that TL was significantly shorter in EOCRC patients than in healthy individuals (EOCRC mean: 122 kb vs. HC mean: 296 kb; p < 0.001), suggesting that telomeric shortening could be associated with EOCRC susceptibility. In addition, we found a significant association between several SNPs of hTERT (rs79662648), POT1 (rs76436625, rs10263573, rs3815221, rs7794637, rs7784168, rs4383910, and rs7782354), TERF2 (rs251796 and rs344152214), and TERF2IP (rs7205764) genes and the risk of developing EOCRC. We consider that the measurement of germline TL and the status analysis of telomere maintenance related genes polymorphisms at early ages could be non-invasive methods that could facilitate the early identification of individuals at risk of developing EOCRC.

Objetivo: estudiar la percepción ambiental de la contaminación del arroyo urbano El Riito, localizado en Tonalá, Chiapas, y la problemática entre dos comunidades que viven en torno a él. Metodología: se analizó información de tipo cuantitativo y cualitativo de los habitantes que han vivido alrededor del arroyo durante rangos de entre 13 y 23 años de residencia. Resultados: se demostró que el espacio y el tiempo de residencia influyen en la percepción de los pobladores sobre la contaminación; también la falta de participación y desvinculación institucional para remediar el problema en dicha microcuenca. Limitaciones: el sismo que ocurrió en octubre de 2017 pudo influir en la baja participación de los funcionarios públicos locales y de algunos ciudadanos en las entrevistas. Valor: la investigación aporta información sobre la interacción social en torno al arroyo urbano, la percepción de la calidad del agua y sus efectos en la salud. Además, se propone el concepto de arroyo urbano aplicado a una zona poco estudiada de Chiapas. Conclusión: la percepción de la contaminación es diferente entre las poblaciones de Tonalá y Paredón, lo que se relaciona con el tiempo de residencia y la cercanía al arroyo, a lo cual se suma la desvinculación entre los gestores del agua y la población de la microcuenca.

Background and aims: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is one of the major public health concerns. The current lifestyle and advances in technology resulted in the development of a virtual mode of professional healthcare, which is an effective alternative method of management of patients. This study aimed to assess the feasibility of implementation of a virtual comprehensive care programme during the COVID-19 pandemic, patients’ acceptance and the changes in self-care behaviours, metabolic parameters and emotional factors. Methods: The programme employed in this study included nine health interventions in 1 day. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the mode of interventions, including questionnaires, patient evaluations and a satisfaction survey, was modified to the virtual form in 2020. This study assessed the changes in self-care behaviours, metabolic parameters and emotional factors and compared the data pertaining to patients who received virtual healthcare in 2020 with those who received face-to-face modality of medical care in 2019. Results: During June to November 2020, 130 patients received healthcare by means of the virtual modality. The change in modality of healthcare was feasible and 75% of the patients displayed good acceptance of the same. En este trabajo se aborda el tema de la distribución de cine independiente en nuestro país, a través del caso de estudio del documental mexicano Vatreni y su relativo éxito en los circuitos de exhibición europeos en contraste con su escasa exhibición en los canales de distribución mexicanos. Con base en investigación documental y de campo, se esboza una propuesta tendiente a mejorar el intrincado periplo de la distribución y exhibición de cine independiente en México. The WIND-bos spar Floating Offshore Wind Turbine is studied both experimentally and numerically. The experimental model of the moored WIND-bos platform is presented, and the different numerical models that have been developed to analyze the hydrodynamics of the platform are described. The results provide a detailed comparison of numerical and experimental motion responses of the floating structure in regular and irregular waves. The numerical study includes frequency domain results from spectral analysis, weakly nonlinear time-domain results from a validated in-house code, and coupled time-domain results from commercial software. The importance of damping calibration is put in evidence, whereas damping ratios are calculated iteratively in the coupled time-domain simulations, and nonlinear damping force is considered within the developed numerical scheme. The results compare well and also show that the novel concept has a good motion performance in general.

The selling price is one of the essential variables in decision making for fishers regarding the catching of a fishing resource. In the case of the Pacific Mexican lobster fishery, the price uncertainty at the beginning of the season translates into the suboptimal utilization of this resource. This work aims to predict the export price of Mexican red lobster (Panulirus) in a fishing season using demand-related market variables including price, main competitors, main buyers, and product quantities exported/imported in the market. We used the monthly export price from 2006 to 2018 for the main importer, China. As a method for price forecasting, artificial neural networks (ANNs), with and without exogenous variables (NARX, NAR), were used as an autoregressive model, while the same information was analyzed with an ARIMAX model for comparative purposes. It was found that ANNs are a useful tool that yielded better predictive power when forecasting Mexican lobster export prices compared to ARIMAX models. The predictive power was evaluated by comparing the mean square errors (MSE) of 15 models. The MSE of ANNs (73.07) was lower than that of the four ARIMAX models (88.1). It is concluded that neural networks are a valuable tool for accurately predicting prices relative to real values, an aspect of great interest for application in fishery resource management.

We introduce a novel model of multipartite entanglement based on topological links, generalizing the graph/hypergraph entropy cone program. We demonstrate that there exist link representations of entropy vectors which provably cannot be represented by graphs or hypergraphs. Furthermore, we show that the contraction map proof method generalizes to the topological setting, though now requiring oracular solutions to well-known but difficult problems in knot theory.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) X protein (HBx) is a viral regulatory and multifunctional protein. It is well-known that the canonical HBx reading frame bears two phylogenetically conserved internal in-frame translational initiation codons at Met2 and Met3, thus possibly generating divergent N-terminal smaller isoforms during translation. Here, we demonstrate that the three distinct HBx isoforms are generated from the ectopically expressed HBV HBx gene, named XF (full-length), XM (medium-length), and XS (short-length); they display different subcellular localizations when expressed individually in cultured hepatoma cells. Particularly, the smallest HBx isoform, XS, displayed a predominantly cytoplasmic localization. To study HBx proteins during viral replication, we performed site-directed mutagenesis to target the individual or combinatorial expression of the HBx isoforms within the HBV viral backbone (full viral genome). Our results indicate that of all HBx isoforms, only the smallest HBx isoform, XS, can restore WT levels of HBV replication, and bind to the viral mini chromosome, thereby establishing an active chromatin state, highlighting its crucial activities during HBV replication. Intriguingly, we found that sequences of HBV HBx genotype H are devoid of the conserved Met3 position, and therefore HBV genotype H infection is naturally silent for the expression of the HBx XS isoform. Finally, we found that the HBx XM (medium-length) isoform shares significant sequence similarity with the N-terminus domain of the COMMD8 protein, a member of the copper metabolism MURR1 domain-containing (COMMD) protein family. This novel finding might facilitate studies on the phylogenetic origin of the HBV X protein. The identification and functional characterization of its isoforms will shift the paradigm by changing the concept of HBx from being a unique, canonical, and multifunctional protein toward the occurrence of different HBx isoforms, carrying out different overlapping functions at different subcellular localizations during HBV genome replication. Significantly, our current work unveils new crucial HBV targets to study for potential antiviral research, and human virus pathogenesis.
