Imines are important intermediates for synthesizing various fine chemicals, with the disadvantage of requiring the use of expensive metal-containing catalysts. We report that the dehydrogenative cross-coupling of phenylmethanol and benzylamine (or aniline) directly forms the corresponding imine with a yield of up to 98%, and water as the sole by-product, in the presence of a stoichiometric base, using carbon nanostructures as the "green" metal-free carbon catalysts with high spin concentrations, which is synthesized by C(sp2)-C(sp3) free radical coupling reactions. The catalytic mechanism is attributed to the unpaired electrons of carbon catalysts to reduce O2 to O2·-, which triggers the oxidative coupling reaction to form imines, whereas the holes in the carbon catalysts receive electrons from the amine to restore the spin states. This is supported by density functional theory calculations. This work will open up an avenue for synthesizing carbon catalysts and offer great potential for industrial applications.

Here, we report curvature‐induced electron spin catalysis by using solid carbon spheres as catalysts, which were synthesized using positive curvature molecular hexabromocyclopentadiene as a precursor molecule, following a radical coupling mechanism. The curvature spin of carbon is regarded as an overlapping state of σ‐ and π‐radical, which is identified by the inverse Laplace transform of pulse‐electron paramagnetic resonance. The growth mechanism of carbon spheres abiding by Kroto's model, is supported by the density functional theory study of thermodynamics and kinetics calculations. The solid carbon spheres present excellent catalytic behaviour of oxidation coupling of amines to form corresponding imines with the conversion of >99 %, selectivity of 98.7 %, and yield of 97.7 %, which is attributed to the predominantly curvature‐induced electron spin catalysis of carbon, supported by the calculation of oxygen adsorption energy. To ensure privacy and security of healthcare wireless medical sensor networks (HWMSNs), several concrete constructions of efficient certificateless aggregate signature (CLAS) scheme without bilinear pairing were proposed in the last few years. However, many previous constructions of CLAS scheme were found to be impractical, which either fail to meet the claimed security or contain design flaws. For example, in some of the previous proposals, any adversary can forge a valid signature on any new message. In this paper, we first demonstrate some security issues and design flaws in the previous proposals of CLAS scheme. As follows, to further address the above deficiencies, a new construction of CLAS scheme with improved security is presented, and the formal security proof is given using Forking Lemma in the random oracle model, assuming that the discrete logarithm problem is hard. Compared with the previous CLAS schemes, our construction has similar computational costs, and it provides better security guarantees. Therefore, compared with the existing solutions, our proposal with strong security and high computational efficiency is more suitable for use in HWMSNs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Detection of specific gas components under various working conditions has emerged through great efforts, such as exploring novel materials and well-designed device structures trying to break the sensing limitations. However, the sensing mechanisms have not been thoroughly studied, i.e., the chemical structural properties of active sensing materials and their interaction with gas molecules. Magnetic resonance, commonly observed in nuclei and electrons when exposed to an external magnetic field, has the potential to offer abundant structural and interaction information without any damage. In this review, we first provide a concise introduction to the fundamental concept of magnetic resonance, followed by wide-ranging advancements in magnetic resonance-based techniques for investigating gas sensors, encompassing the determination of the structure of sensing materials and the elucidation of sensing mechanisms. Although a large number of provably secure cryptographic primitives have been proposed in the literature, many of these schemes might be broken in practice because of various leakage attacks. Therefore, the leakage resilience should be considered in designing these primitives. However, in identity-based cryptography, most of the existing leakage-resilient identity-based encryption (IBE) schemes suffer some limitations: they either resist the leakage attacks in the selective identity security model or achieve the chosen-ciphertext attack (CCA) security based on a non-static assumption. In this paper, an IBE scheme with adaptive leakage-resilient CCA security is proposed, and its security is rigorously proved in the random oracle model under a classic static complexity assumption, e.g. decisional bilinear Diffie–Hellman assumption. In our construction, all elements of ciphertext are randomly distributed in the adversary's view. Hence, the adversary cannot obtain any useful information of the user's private key from the given ciphertexts. Moreover, a unique property of our construction is that the leakage parameter is independent of the plaintext space, which contributes a better leakage rate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Secret key leakage has become a security threat in computer systems, and it is crucial that cryptographic schemes should resist various leakage attacks, including the continuous leakage attacks. In the literature, some research progresses have been made in designing leakage resistant cryptographic primitives, but there are still some remaining issues unsolved, e.g. the upper bound of the permitted leakage is fixed. In actual applications, the leakage requirements may vary; thus, the leakage parameter with fixed size is not sufficient against various leakage attacks. In this paper, we introduce some novel idea of designing a continuous leakage-amplified public-key encryption scheme with security against chosen-ciphertext attacks. In our construction, the leakage parameter can have an arbitrary length, i.e. the length of the permitted leakage can be flexibly adjusted according to the specific leakage requirements. In this work, the ultrasound-assisted hydrothermal synthesis method offers a facile method to synthesize highly efficient photoluminescence sulfur quantum dots (SQDs). Impressively, a switchable fluorescent "on-off-on" sensor was developed using the acquired SQDs, which are capable of sequentially detecting iron ions (Fe 3+ ) and ascorbic acid (AA) with exceptional sensitivity and selectivity. Meanwhile, SQDs and Fe 3+ formed complexes through coordination, causing the fluorescence quenching of SQDs because of the static quenching effect. Upon the addition of AA into the SQDs/Fe 3+ system, a redox-reaction-mediated mechanism leads to the recovery of fluorescence. The fluorescence intensity of SQDs exhibits a linear relationship with the concentrations of Fe 3+ and AA in the ranges 5-30 and 20-100 μM, respectively. Notably, the detection limits achieved are 14.31 nM for Fe 3+ and 0.64 μM for AA. Moreover, the chemosensor was successfully employed for monitoring Fe 3+ in real water samples and AA in fruits. These results demonstrate the excellent analysis and detection capabilities of SQDs in the complex environment.
