Abstract

The onset and the development of the concept of exchange force in quantum physics are historically reconstructed, starting from Heisenberg's seminal contributions in 1926 and going through the great developments in nuclear physics, which allowed the emergence of the idea of force mediating virtual quanta. Although most of such work was performed in Europe, the last and decisive effort in this long path was carried out by Japanese scientists in the 1930s. This is the main focus of the present work, which retraces the achievements of Yukawa and Tomonaga, whose results and mutual interactions are carefully analyzed and related to those of European physicists., Comment: 37 pages, no figures, Springer Nature style, submitted for publication

Abstract

The video game industry is one of the driving engines of digital development. The environmental impact from this industry is represented by the intensive mining of minerals. On top of that, it was estimated that video game development would be responsible for 0.04% of global emissions. The ISO 29110 standard was specifically designed with the aim of making the various production processes, centered in the production and management of software and hardware resources, more sustainable by targeting small businesses. The objective of this paper is the experimental application of the ISO 29110 standard to the company CINIC GAMES s.r.l., located in Florence (ITA). The norm is a useful life cycle management standard, which can be applied to smaller organizations in order to introduce the of environmental sustainability and circular economy into their production process. Abstract

Innovative developments concerning battery technology are deeply changing our lives, from transportation to stationary applications used to store energy. Batteries are composed of materials whose production may cause adverse environmental impacts. In case the demand for these materials outpaces supply, scarcity may become a relevant problem and impact the price and feasibility of large-scale adoption of battery-powered vehicles. This paper presents the technological innovations applied to battery storage management systems. We analyzed BaxEnergy, a proactive company which aims to deliver innovative solutions to renewable energy stakeholders for complete data analysis and optimization of their power plants. BaxEnergy links multiple plants together to form a larger and interlinked system, called power-grid. BaxEnergy continuously look for new clients in order to undertake new project and becoming an even more important business reality. Abstract

Many topics in modern physics are currently included in the curricula of the last year of high school in many countries, as for example in Italy. A consistent part of the curriculum should be devoted to the special theory of relativity. A particularly interesting phenomenon in this framework is the so-called Terrellâ€"Penrose effect (TPE), which the students may find especially intriguing in view of its association with the name of one of the 2020 Nobel Prize winners. Although it is not possible to rigorously analyse this optical effect at the high school level, we show that is possible to tackle the topic anyway, during some of the in-depth lectures on modern physics that can be organized for high school students in our area. In particular, we found that this physical context can be useful for stimulating young students to use goniometric relations. Since trigonometry is a very important topic in mathematics, being always present in the written test for the final graduation exam, it is useful to show how it can be fruitfully used to tackle physical problems. The aim of this paper is to summarize our lecture on the TPE effect in the classroom, where we consider the case of a rod moving at high constant velocity, oriented with different angles with respect to the observer, and the case of a uniformly accelerated body (in the Newtonian approximation). Abstract

Two species of freshwater Parastacidae (Cherax quadricarinatus and Cherax destructor) are used for breeding in several country and to date also in Italy in one aquaculture plant located near Catania (Sicily). Although they are Australian, they seem to have some of the peculiar properties that make it important, strategic and highly appreciated species for aquaculture facilities in Italy. In fact, they mature early, have multiple reproductive cycles in a year, females can lay over a thousand eggs in a single brood and seem to tolerate wide ranges of temperature (Haubrock et al., 2021). Several authors have studied the Cherax genus from different points of view: diseases, moulting phases and the immune responses under stress conditions (Mac Loughlin et al., 2016; Sacristán et al., 2016; Foysal et al., 2020). To date, even if it is known the economic value of these species, the nutritional properties for human were not yet evaluated. The economic expenses behind the maintenance of an aquaculture facilities must certainly be justified by: i) maintenance of species that can guarantee a competitive product on the market; ii) their good nutritional levels as well as for the organoleptic characteristics. Our study, conducted as part of a project “POFEAMP 02/INA/17’ (02/INA/17, PO-FEAMP 2014-2020”, represents for the first time a preliminary evaluation of some macronutrient parameters important to know the nutritional properties of these animals. For this reason, some parameters, as the level of total protein, cholesterol, triglyceride, glucose and lactate dehydrogenase in two Cherax species, Cherax quadricarinatus and Cherax destructor were evaluated in haemolymph and in muscle tissue. These results can be useful both for evaluating the good health of these animals kept in aquaculture facilities and for evaluating better their nutritional properties. In the future, these Cherax species could increase their consumption and allow their greater presence in dietary habits.
