The sharing economy affords new opportunities to the global tourism industry, accelerating the development of tourism at a striking rate. This paper examines productivity of the bed and breakfast (B&B) industry and how to improve the performance of the B&B industry in a sharing economy. A modified global Malmquist index using slack-based measures is developed to measure productivity, and benchmark selection models using technology forecasting are proposed to improve future performance. The future technology is forecasted by averaging the frontier shifts (technology changes) in previous periods. This study challenges the implicit assumption that the technology will be stationary in traditional benchmarking, and suggests that how the information of frontier shifts derived from Malmquist index can be used to forecast future technology in a rational manner. The empirical results inform that there is a productivity growth in the B&B industry in a sharing economy, and the main driver of the growth is technology progress rather than performance improvement. In particular, a counterintuitive but interesting result is that the B&B industry experienced a slight productivity growth after the outbreak of COVID-19. The benchmarks in 2021 and 2022 are forecasted to improve the performance of the B&B industry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the continuous scaling-up process of the separating system, a mechanism exists that transforms the behavior of the flow field, resulting in deviations from the original model and conclusions. The paper examined the effects of the scale up of a fluidized bed by CFD. It was observed that increasing the diameter reduces the amplitude of axial density fluctuations. Similarly, increasing the static height increases the amplitude. Moreover, increasing the static bed height enhances the visibility of the cyclic flow structure of gas and solid phases. The flow structure in large bed diameters is disrupted. The impact of changing the bed diameter on bed density is more significant than the static height. As the bed diameter increases, the bubble disturbance decreases and the aggregation phase gradually disappears while the proportion of the emulsified phase keeps increasing. This study will guide and assist in the future application of separated fluidized beds in industry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present work deals with the use of stirred bead milling process to tune the hydroxyapatite particles size adjusting the process conditions. Our goal is to find the optimal parameters to obtain particulate suspensions within a 0.2–1.5 μm particle size range. This size range is preferable to produce spherical feedstock for powder bed fusion technologies through the atomization process. A Darvan C dispersant agent dosage of 2.1 mg m−2 (active component) to the specific surface of the ceramic was found, through stability and rheological analyses, to be the most outstanding dosage for stabilizing the dispersion. Milling chamber, bead wear, and energy consumption were evaluated and minimized, finding the most efficient operating parameter setting for the process. For the studied material, the use of a fast stirrer speed, smaller grinding media size, and higher solids concentration increased the energy efficiency. This work confirmed the presented laboratory-scale milling process as a promising method to study the processing of hydroxyapatite-filled slurries, as a first-step product, on the manufacture of hydroxyapatite microspheres for the powder bed fusion industry. The domestic manufacturing footprint of the bedding industry in the United States is growing as mattress makers continue to open and expand factories in the country. The impact of the third antidumping petition against mattresses from a dozen countries is still uncertain, but imports from those countries have significantly decreased since the petition was filed. Many mattress producers from Mexico, Italy, and other countries included in the complaint have set up factories in the United States to avoid potential tariffs. However, the mattress industry as a whole is facing challenges, with sluggish sales and a stagnant housing market hindering recovery. Despite the current difficulties, industry executives remain hopeful for a turnaround in the near future. [Extracted from the article]

The article discusses the use of highly integrated performance measures by senior management teams and its impact on decision-making. While integrated performance measures can provide a better understanding of how activities are related to firm value, they may restrict the capacity of a senior management group to benefit from diversity and different perspectives. The study specifically focuses on innovation ambidexterity, which refers to the ability of firms to produce both radical and incremental innovations simultaneously. The research findings suggest that highly integrated performance measures combined with lower task conflict among senior management may lead to lower innovation ambidexterity. On the other hand, the use of broad scope performance measures combined with task conflict can create more opportunities for engaging with divergent points of view. Managers are advised to regularly question the assumptions underlying the integration of measures and create face-to-face opportunities for discussion to foster a supportive environment for innovation ambidexterity. The summer Las Vegas Market for home furnishings and mattresses was characterized by a sluggish and challenging environment. Retailers were seeking assistance with door swings and margins, and mattress makers responded with solutions such as lower prices, flexible payment terms, and promotions. To attract more customers, companies like Kluft and King Koil are increasing their digital advertising efforts. Other strategies include offering extended payment terms, strengthening marketing materials, and introducing new product lines. The challenging retail climate is attributed to factors such as inflation, higher interest rates, and lower housing starts, as well as the upcoming presidential election. [Extracted from the article]

CONSUMER behavior ,BEDDING industry - Abstract
The lines between brick-and-mortar and direct-to-consumer (DTC) bedding purveyors are becoming increasingly blurred, according to a panel of DTC specialists at Furniture Today's Bedding Conference. The relationship between these two types of retailers is growing more symbiotic, with examples such as Ashley Home's acquisition of Resident. DTC specialists are recognizing the importance of having a brick-and-mortar presence, as approximately 52% of consumers prefer to try before buying. In return, DTC players provide value to their store partners through highly qualified customers and access to consumer data. Despite challenges, there is optimism for synergistic growth between DTC marketers and brick-and-mortar stores. [Extracted from the article]
