Coal and gas outbursts classification has become more important than before due to the serious threat to the safety of coal production, in this paper, we proposed a novel combination model consists of feature decomposition and reconstruction, feature selection and feature extraction for classification of coal and gas outbursts. First, EMD is used to decompose the coal and gas outbursts index features into a number of different IMFS; Second, in order to find out the relevance of IMFS with regard to the features, a wrapper algorithm Boruta with the RF classifier is employed, and the IMFS which has high relevance with the feature are selected to form a new index feature, then the new obtained features construct new influencing factors that affect coal and gas outbursts; Furtherly, in order to eliminate the redundancy between the new generated features and the uncorrelation between the index features and outbursts, the LDA is used to extract the features with class differentiation. Finally, the SVM classifiers based on the optimal parameters by Bayesian optimisation algorithm is employed to evaluate the proposed feature extraction scheme. Experimental results show that the proposed comprehensive model can achieve significant performance in terms of classification accuracy and feature size compared to existing methods for coal and gas outbursts classification. China's current energy consumption is primarily fueled by coal, increasing coal mining with growing energy demand. Coal and gas outburst accidents are common problems in coal mining, and prediction methods are fundamental for preventing such accidents. The gas emission characteristics of boreholes are a combination of comprehensive coal properties and coal seam gas occurrence status; thus, the accurate prediction of gas emissions from boreholes is crucial for preventing such hazards. This paper presents a method for measuring the gas flow rate in continuous boreholes, which is used to predict outburst danger in front of the working face. The model was compared with field measurement data and found suitable for research. The effects of different initial gas pressures, different borehole radius, and different burial depths on gas emissions from boreholes were studied. The results showed that (1) initial gas pressure is the main influencing factor of gas gushing. The amount of gas emission during drilling and the attenuation of gas pressure are more sensitive to pressure. An increase in gas pressure considerably increases the amount of gas gushing out of drilling holes. (2) The increase in the drilling radius increases the generation of coal cuttings, the area of the drilling hole wall, and the degree of damage to the drilling hole wall. Consequently, the amount of gas gushing out of the drilling hole increases. (3) In situ stress occurs mainly because of the increase in gas pressure with an increase in burial depth and the increase in gas desorption caused by the increase in damage to the borehole wall. This study provides a new outburst prediction method, which involves identifying outburst hazards through the gas gushing out of the borehole. Coal and gas outburst (CGO) is a devastating disaster in the coal mining industry at the cost of human life. Considerable efforts have been done to eliminate this hazard, but CGO still occurs frequently. The geological structure is a critical factor influencing CGO, and it has recently been found that sudden change in coal property plays an important role in CGO. In this paper, the stress transmission, coal deformation, energy accumulation, and plastic damage when the roadway is excavated to the geological structure with the sudden change in coal property are analyzed by numerical method, based on Shoushan No.1 coal mine. It is found that the geological interface between soft coal and hard coal transfers the stress from soft coal to hard coal within a certain range, causing the occurrence of tectonic stress. The tectonic stress increases gradually with roadway excavation and finally superimposes with the peak stress. The coal deformation and elastic energy increase, leading to a high probability of CGO. When the heading face is closed to the geological structure, the coal damaged area is obviously increased no matter the roadway is excavated from hard coal to soft coal or from the opposite direction. Engineering trial shows that controlling the tunneling speed and pre-grouting to reinforce the geological anomaly area are effective methods to improve the safety of roadway excavation. Understanding the dynamics of mild explosive activity is a fundamental tool for hazard assessment at open conduit volcanoes. This is a particularly critical task for Etna volcano. Etna is in fact characterized by frequent, mild explosive activity, punctuated by lava flows and paroxysmal events ('lava fountains'), which, because of their greater impact, have been the main target for hazard studies, whereas more frequent Strombolian activity has been overlooked. As a result, their impact and associated hazards have been never quantified, despite the extensive monitoring and surveillance activities carried out on this volcano. In this paper, we analyze video recordings of a sequence of Strombolian explosions occurring at the summit craters of Mt. Etna, in Italy, in February 2020. Data were also integrated with a petrographic analysis of collected samples, and drone surveys were performed at the same time as the video recordings. We estimate the frequency of explosions (20–12 per min); particle exit speeds (1–50 m/s), and erupted mass (100–102 kg) of those explosions. A very regular, small-scale activity (marked by a single burst of gas breaking the magma free surface into bombs and lapilli fragments) was occasionally punctuated by larger explosions, (at least one every 5 min), with a longer duration, fed by larger magma volumes, and consisting of two to three distinct pulses followed by a stationary phase. We found that the repose times between explosions follows a log logistic distribution, which is in agreement with the behavior of open vent explosive activity. The four largest explosions of the sequence were analyzed in detail: they emitted particles with median diameters (Mdphi) ranging from −10.1 to −8.8 phi, with bimodal distributions. The strong disturbance of upward mining of the short-distance multiseam results in frequent fractures in the coal seam to be mined, jeopardizing the operation safety due to the instability of the surrounding rock of the overlying stope and risks of coal and gas outburst. A lucrative alternative is the downward mining of multiseam, which wide implementation is limited by the lack of reliable data on stress evolution characteristics. In this paper, the evolution, nonlinear interaction, and superposition characteristics of mining-induced stress after multiple pressure relief in the short-distance multi-seam were investigated by the numerical simulation and physical simulation, taking the endowment and mining technology characteristics of group B short-distance multiseam in Pan'er Coal Mine in Anhui Province of China as an example. The numerical and physical models of multiple (2—5 times) mining activities in pressure relief multiseam (with five main coal layers) under downward mining are constructed and implemented with the FLAC3D software and 1 : 100 scaling, respectively. The results showed that a pressure relief arch, which bears and transfers stresses, is formed on the coal seam's roof and floor. In downward mining, the local arch expands to the long arch, which bearing capacity within the influence range of multiple mining disturbances is weak, and the arch structure is prone to instability. If a coal pillar is left in the upper coal seam after its mining, the lower coal seam mining will switch from the large-scale low-stress area under the goaf to the small-scale high-stress area of nonlinear interaction of the multiple mining stresses with the stress under the coal pillar. The section of appropriate prediction index is of great importance for coal and gas outburst prediction. The quantity of gas emission is a key factor directly relating to the outburst risk of tunneling working face in the coal roadways. Therefore, accurately predicting the quantity of gas emission is necessary and critical to prevent and control outbursts. In this paper, using the sphere diffusion equation of coal particle gas and radial unsteady flow equations of coal seam gas to analysis gas flow of fallen coal and coal wall, and a dynamic prediction model of gas emission is established including key factors, research shows that: (1) in tunneling working face, the change rule of gas emission of the new model, in which mechanical state, physical properties of coal seam, roadway tunneling parameters, and gas adsorption parameters are considered, is the same as that of the conventional index, which indicates the feasibility of the new model; (2) The new model shows that the gas emission is positively correlated with the gas pressure, driving speed and permeability coefficient of coal seam, and negatively correlated with the uniaxial compressive strength of coal mass; (3) By comparing the old prediction model of gas emission, the predicted value of the new model is closer to the measured value, fluctuating within a smaller range, and has a higher accuracy after taking the gas emission of coal particle into account. In addition, the multiple characteristics of the coal body in front of the working face are comprehensively considered. Coal and gas outburst is one of the main disasters that seriously threaten workers' safety during coal production. Timely identification and evaluation of the potential outburst before tunneling helps to implement the targeted control measures. Nevertheless, the influencing factors of outburst are so complex that there is no suitable index system and evaluation method available yet. In this paper, a more reasonable and complete index system (three categories of factors and 16 indicators) for outburst risk is established, in which, the risk level is divided into three levels. Then, the triangular fuzzy numbers are adopted to quantify the indicators and the logarithmic fuzzy preference programming method to calculate the weight. The cloud distribution under finite interval processing is generated based on cloud numerical characters of each indicator. In addition, the risk level is determined according to the calculation results of multi-index comprehensive membership degree. Finally, the entire evaluation system is applied to two excavated coal roadways for experiments, which show that the finite interval cloud model delivers a more objective and reasonable risk assessment. Five potential outburst threat areas of 58 excavation cycles evaluated show different degrees of outburst dynamic appearance, indicating a good relationship between the evaluation results and the actual risk. This method effectively considers the fuzziness and randomness between indexes, and it is able to classify outburst risk effectively, providing insights for the scientific and accurate assessment of such risks in front of the driving face. Due to the severity and great harm of coal and gas outbursts accidents, outbursts prediction becomes very necessary; the paper presents a hybrid prediction model of feature extraction and pattern classification for coal and gas outbursts. First, discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is utilized as a preprocessing technique to decompose subseries and extract the features with different frequencies and the optimal feature components are retained; second, in order to eliminate the redundancy between the features and uncorrelation between features and outbursts, we use the fast independent component analysis (FICA) to obtain each independent component, obtaining the global information in the feature; then, the obtained features are input into linear discriminant analysis (LDA), under the guidance of class labels, then the local information in features is obtained; finally, the projected features are input into the deep extreme learning machine (DELM) classifier based on the optimal parameters by quantum particle swarm optimization (QPSO) for training and classification. The experimental results on the dataset of coal and gas outbursts show that compared with other models in the current prediction of coal and gas outbursts, this method has significant effect on various indicators. Tectonic coal in coal seams not only seriously restricts the development of coalbed methane (CBM), but also easily forms coal and gas outburst risk areas. Therefore, it is of great significance to effectively predict the tectonic coal in coal seams under the development scale. Currently, the prediction methods of tectonic coal include geological prediction and geophysical prediction. Due to the large scale of geological analysis and the low identifiability of geophysical response of thin coal seam, these two methods are difficult to meet the prediction requirements of tectonic coal in the development process. Therefore, this paper proposes a new method for predicting tectonic coal based on seismic–geological integrated analysis of main controlling factors. Firstly, the control factors of tectonic coal and their quantitative characterization are determined by geological analysis. Then, the characterization parameters of control factors are obtained by various seismic technologies. Finally, the main control factors are screened by grey correlation analysis, and the prediction model of tectonic coal distribution is established by using the main control factors, and applied in the Qinshui Basin. The results show that the structure, surrounding rock lithology and coal thickness are three kinds of geological factors controlling the development of tectonic coal and the control weight of each factor is different. Structure plays the most important role in controlling the development of tectonic coal, followed by coal thickness and surrounding rock lithology. The prediction error of two verification wells is less than 2%, which indicates that the method can provide effective guidance for coal structure evaluation in the process of CBM development and coal mining. Rock and gas outburst is one of the most significant natural hazards faced by the mining industry. In the last decade, this issue has appeared in firm rock mining (including copper ore mines) in addition to coal mining. A number of methods have been developed for coal mining to assess the hazard posed by gasogeodynamic phenomena, but in the case of copper ore mines, no studies have led to forecasts of this risk. To face the challenge, the authors decided to propose their own concept of risk assessment principles based on a threshold analysis of the phenomenon and a continuous analysis using fuzzy logic. A series of tests were performed to support the paper, investigating selected parameters which directly affect the risk. Vibrations caused by downhole operations often induce coal and gas outburst accidents in tectonic zone coal seams. To clarify how vibration affects the pore structure, gas desorption, and diffusion capacity of tectonic coal, isothermal adsorption-desorption experiments under different vibration frequencies were carried out. In this study, high-pressure mercury intrusion experiments and low-pressure liquid nitrogen adsorption experiments were conducted to determine the pore structures of tectonic coal before and after vibration. The pore distribution of vibration-affected tectonic coal, including local concentration, heterogeneity, and connectivity, was analyzed using multifractal theory. Further, a correlation analysis was performed between the desorption diffusion characteristic parameters and the pore fractal characteristic parameters to derive the intrinsic relationship between the pore fractal evolution characteristics and the desorption diffusion characteristics. The results showed that the vibration increased the pore volume of the tectonic coal, and the pore volume increased as the vibration frequency increased in the 50 Hz range. The pore structure of the vibration-affected tectonic coal showed multifractal characteristics, and the multifractal parameters affected the gas desorption and diffusion capacity by reflecting the density, uniformity, and connectivity of the pore distribution in the coal. The increases in the desorption amount (Q), initial desorption velocity (V0), initial diffusion coefficient (D0), and initial effective diffusion coefficient (De) of the tectonic coal due to vibration indicated that the gas desorption and diffusion capacity of the tectonic coal were improved at the initial desorption stage. Q, V0, D0, and De had significant positive correlations with pore volume and the Hurst index, and V0, D0, and De had negative correlations with the Hausdorff dimension. To a certain extent, vibration reduced the local density regarding the pore distribution in the coal. As a result, the pore size distribution was more uniform, and the pore connectivity was improved, thereby enhancing the gas desorption and diffusion capacity of the coal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Analyzing the causes of accidents, excavating accident paths, and applying accident prevention are important tasks in safety management. Focusing on coal and gas outburst accidents, this study examined the primary accident path and conducted applied research on the reasoning of the accident case. First, combined with the obtained accident causes, a coupling analysis of the causes of coal and gas outburst accidents was conducted. Second, using the method of data mining coupled with Apriori algorithm, the coupling relationship between each cause module of the coal and gas outburst accident was obtained, and consequently, a path map of the coal and gas outburst accident was drawn. Third, a Bayesian network model for the causes of coal and gas outburst accidents was established based on the accident path map and the probability of occurrence of each cause. Finally, considering the safety concept element (SC1) as an example, the Bayesian network model was used to conduct a sensitivity analysis of accident causes. Thereafter, considering the coal and gas outburst accident of the Sanjia Coal Mine in Guizhou Province as an example, probabilistic reasoning research on the cause of the accident was conducted. The application results showed that (1) under normal conditions, there are approximately 797,280 accident paths for coal and gas outbursts. Following data mining, 188 main accident paths were found. (2) Sensitivity analysis determined 19 factors that were sensitive to safety concept elements (SC1), of which the three most sensitive factors were (i) resource management system procedures (SM7), (ii) safety policy (SM1), and (iii) safety training system procedure (SM8). 13 paths exhibited a sensitivity ≥0.5%, of which 7 exhibited strong sensitivity. (3) The absolute accuracy rate of accident cause reasoning in the Sanjia Coal Mine in Guizhou Province was 71.43%, while the relative accuracy rate was close to 100%. Thus, it was concluded that: (1) the accident path mining method proposed in this paper is feasible for main accident path mining. (2) The Bayesian network model for the causes of coal and gas outburst accidents established in this study can be practically applied for the sensitivity analysis of accident causes and exhibits high reliability in the probabilistic reasoning of accident causes. The results of this study is expected to aid in the prevention of coal and gas outburst accidents, and provide reference and help for the path mining of other accident causes and the probabilistic reasoning of accident causes. The coalbed methane energy resources waste, environmental pollution and miner's health remain challenging problems in worldwide mining operations accompanied by coal-gas outbursts; thus, the safe and efficient yield of these resources plays a vital role in the world's energy market. The tectonic coal development is a significant geological feature of coal and gas outburst sites, and the study of coal and gas outburst mechanism should be based on more precise geological occurrence characteristics. In this paper, the geological characteristics of coal and gas outburst sites were analyzed. The failure law of coal body under the stratified occurrence of tectonic coal and raw coal seam with different thickness was studied. The mechanical equilibrium equation of non-synchronous deformation of tectonic coal and raw coal was constructed, the initiation criterion of coal and gas outburst was established based on the support body model, and a case study was carried out. The results show that with the thickness increase of the tectonic coal seam, the peak displacement of the driving face increases. The outburst start-up and development of coal and gas outburst, coal and gas extrusion outburst and coal and gas collapse outburst were deeply analyzed, as well as the internal reasons of the occurrence of coal-gas outburst portent are explained, based on the support body model. Mining protective coal seams is an effective approach for coal and gas outburst control, but a large amount of gangue is usually produced when mining a thin protective seam and dealing with the gangue can be a challenging task. In the paper, a novel integrated mining system by extracting two panels simultaneously was demonstrated in the 12th coal mine of the Pingdingshan coalfield: one panel was mined in the thin protective coal seam, and the other one was mined in the protected coal seam. The thickness of the protective seam was only 0.8 m, but the mining height reached 1.8 m, indicating that there was about 1 m thick roof stone being mined. An underground coal preparation plant was built, and the mixture of coal and gangue from the protective panel was sorted underground. The sorted coal was delivered to the surface stockpile, while the waste rock was directly backfilled into the gob of the panel in the protected coal seam. Thus, waste rock did not need to be lifted up to the surface, which can reduce material handing cost and minimise mining footprint on the surface. In order to prevent the migration of pressure relief gas into the working areas of the protective coal seam, the main reasons causing gas exceedance in the upper corner of U-shaped ventilation system were investigated, and then the Y-shaped ventilation system and various gas extraction boreholes were implemented to effectively control the pressure relief gas. Numerical models were developed to assess the effect of applying gob backfilling during the extraction of two panels in parallel. The results show that the gob backfilling can reduce the surface subsidence and horizontal movement, which is very helpful for the protection of ground water and surface infrastructures. The haulage roadway of the F15-22080 working face, No.8 mine is situated within a special non-uniform stress zone. In this area, the extraction-boreholes drilling process frequently triggers coal and gas outburst. Against this background, this study systematically conducted high-pressure gas adsorption experiments and high-pressure gas desorption experiments on coal samples collected from different stress zones and obtained their adsorption/desorption characteristics. Subsequently, coal pore structure characteristics at various scales were investigated by employing scanning electron microscopy, low-pressure N2 adsorption and low-pressure CO2 adsorption techniques and fractal analysis to assess the impact of varying stress levels. On this basis, a comprehensive analysis was carried out to explore the connections between stress, pore structure, adsorption/desorption traits, and the risk of outburst. The results indicate that, with increasing stress, the Protodyakonov coefficient f and the Langmuir pressure PL decrease, while the index of diffusion initial velocity of coal gas Δp and the Langmuir volume VL increase. The desorption amount and rate of gas also increase significantly. The total pore volume and specific surface area of micropores increase, while those of mesopores and macropores show an overall decreasing trend. The surface fractal dimension DF1 increases by 9%, the spatial fractal dimension DF2 decreases by 5.2%, and the volume fractal dimension DSIE increases by 1%. The induced stress leads to a decrease in the abundance of macropores and mesopores, with concurrent increase in micropores. The VL exhibits a linear increase with the DSIE, whereas the PL demonstrates a linear decrease with it. The initial desorption rate rises with the reduction of the DF2 and the increase of the DSIE. The influence of superimposed-stress on outburst stems from alterations in pore structure and adsorption–desorption capabilities. Gas outbursts pose a significant threat in the mining of deep low‐permeability coal seams. As mining depth increases, there is a rise in coal and gas dynamic disasters, rendering the gas outburst prevention technology from shallow mining areas unsuitable for deep coal seam exploitation. Addressing the challenges posed by deep, highly gassy coal seams, this study introduces a gas outburst prevention technology integrating destressing in the close distance underlying roadway with gas drainage. The article investigates the relevant technical parameters and assesses the feasibility of this approach. First, it establishes destressing model for the underlying roadway to derive an analytical solution for stress distribution in the coal seam. Second, appropriate technical parameters are designed considering the seepage characteristics of gas in the coal seam. Finally, the gas drainage technical scheme is implemented at Qujiang coal mine to verify its on‐site effectiveness. Field test results indicate an increase in gas permeability within the coal seam following destressing in the underlying roadway, accompanied by significant improvements in the efficiency of gas drainage and the advancement speed of the coal roadway. Specifically, the driving speed of the coal roadway has escalated from 40 m/month to 150 m/month. These outcomes demonstrate the potential of this technology as a promising approach for preventing gas outbursts in the challenging context of deep, low‐permeability coal seams, facilitating swift coal roadway excavation. The coal and gas outburst and rockburst coupling disaster is becoming increasingly serious due to deep mining. To clarify the mechanism inducing the outburst–rockburst coupling disaster, a true triaxial single-sided unloading mechanical test was conducted with the aid of a true triaxial solid–thermal–gas coupling test device, an industrial computed tomography (CT) system, and an acoustic emission system. Through this test, the mechanical characteristics, meso crushing characteristics, and acoustic characteristics in the disaster formation process were obtained. Additionally, the outburst–rockburst coupling instability disaster law was verified by numerical simulation. The results demonstrated that the stress unloading degree of the coal body was negatively correlated with the initial gas pressure in the outburst–rockburst coupling disaster. The time domain parameter count and energy of acoustic emission exhibited a "bimodal" distribution pattern in the instability stage. The rockburst would occur when the peak value was in a "low-count and high-energy" state, while coal and gas outburst would occur when the peak value was in a "high-count and low-energy" state. The meso slice revealed that gas degradation promoted the development of microcracks in the coal body, and the penetration of cracks resulted in the main cracks of structural instability during rockburst. The coal and gas outburst was mainly attributed to the "cross" shear failure pattern of the coal body. Addressing common challenges such as limited indicators, poor adaptability, and imprecise modeling in gas pre-warning systems for driving faces, this study proposes a hybrid predictive and pre-warning model grounded in time-series analysis. The aim is to tackle the effects of broad application across diverse mines and insufficient data on warning accuracy. Firstly, we introduce an adaptive normalization (AN) model for standardizing gas sequence data, prioritizing recent information to better capture the time-series characteristics of gas readings. Coupled with the Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) model, AN demonstrates superior forecasting performance compared to other standardization techniques. Next, Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition (EEMD) is used for feature extraction, guiding the selection of the Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) order. Minimal decomposition errors validate the efficacy of this approach. Furthermore, enhancements to the transformer framework are made to manage non-linearities, overcome gradient vanishing, and effectively analyze long time-series sequences. To boost versatility across different mining scenarios, the Optuna framework facilitates multiparameter optimization, with xgbRegressor employed for accurate error assessment. Predictive outputs are benchmarked against Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), GRU, Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), and Bidirectional LSTM (BiLSTM), where the hybrid model achieves an R-squared value of 0.980975 and a Mean Absolute Error (MAE) of 0.000149, highlighting its top performance. To cope with data scarcity, bootstrapping is applied to estimate the confidence intervals of the hybrid model. This work discussed the results from tests conducted to study the desorption and outburst characteristics of soft and hard coal under different gas conditions. The research found that gas type has a greater influence on the outburst and desorption characteristics of soft coal. Triaxial compression failure can improve the desorption rate of coal specimens, and the gas desorption rate of hard coal is more affected by triaxial compression failure. In the outburst experiments, the greater the test gas pressure, the greater the crush degree of the coal specimen, and the proportion of small-sized coal powder (<0.1 mm) increases but gradually stabilizes. Moreover, the acoustic emission (AE) signals during the outburst process were recorded, and the evolution law of gas pressure in the outburst carven was also analyzed. For the characteristics of high frequency and strong suddenness of dynamic disasters in deep coal mines, the traditional detection and evaluation techniques applied to shallow coal mine failed to accurately judge the risk degree of disasters. Therefore, it is of great significance to use advanced detection technologies and appropriate evaluation methods to improve the accuracy and efficiency of risk assessment in the process of coal mining. The present paper applies the rapid detection and multi-source dynamic detection technologies used in the field of mining with the purpose of improving the reliability of detection technologies for typical dynamic disaster. In this study, the data fusion technology was used to analyze data obtained from laboratory experiments, engineering survey, detection and historical data, so as to form the final dynamic and static indicators. Then, the new combined evaluation models with time series of coal and gas outburst as well as rock burst were established respectively to carry out the comprehensive risk evaluation using the least-squares method and the time-varying weight method. After the comprehensive analysis on the results of the above two evaluation models, the risk areas of the typical dynamic disasters were judged and classified. Finally, the evaluation models were coded to build an early-warning software platform that could achieve automatic evaluation and the actual 3D visualization of coal mining areas. The early-warning software platform was applied to risk assessment of dynamic disasters in Gengcun Coal Mine in Yima City, Henan Province, China. The results of the 6-month experiment showed that the risk assessment accuracy and reliability of the proposed evaluation models was 100% and 90% respectively, which indicates that the newly developed approach is reliable and can be recommended for applying in more coal mines to improve the process safety risk control. For deep coal mines, geological disturbances or mining activities can cause damage to coal and rock masses, easily inducing dynamic disasters such as rock bursts or coal and gas outbursts, which seriously threaten the safety production of coal mine. In this paper, first, the Liyazhuang Coal Mine introduced the SOS MS (Sensor Observation Service Microseismic) monitoring system from the Polish Research Institute and verified the accuracy of its positioning. Then, to study the characteristics of MS signals induced by different mining activities, based on the field monitoring results, the waveform and frequency spectrum characteristics of MS signals at different energy levels induced by different mining activities are analyzed, and the energy levels of MS signals caused by different mining activities are classified. Studies have shown that there are large differences in the waveform and spectral characteristics of MS signals at different energy levels. High-level energy seismic signals are characterized by large amplitudes, low frequencies, relatively concentrated distribution, long vibration duration, and slow attenuation. In addition, the relationship between mining activities and MS events is also statistically analyzed based on the spatial and temporal distribution of MS events with the advancement of working face, and the results show that the increase of vibration frequency and energy can be precursor information for roof pressure. With the advance of the working face, the MS energy has the characteristic of periodic distribution, which is consistent with the periodic weighting revealed by the working resistance of the support. Nowadays, there are many outburst prevention measures being applied on site, while this disaster still occurs from time to time. Therefore, to better improve the preventing outcome of them, this paper came forward with some principles, based on the mechanical theory of deep mining and damage evolution procedure concerning coal containing gas underneath the impact load. The primary conclusions were as follows: the stresses, strains, and associated widths in the three areas, namely fracture area, plastic area, and elastic area, in front of the working face were recalculated by considering stress-softening and dilatancy of coal mass. The damage evolution of gas-bearing coal mass under impact loading was displayed in the LS-DYNA numerical simulation as a process of compaction followed by destruction. The proposed principles could be split into two perspectives, one for the fracture area, specifically, to minimize the descending of the coal mass's strength in this area; another for the stress-concentration zone, namely, to abate the thrust due to extrusion and deformation, on the coal body which was located in the front area. According to those principles, a preliminary goal-reaching parameter was proposed and it was implemented for the evaluation of advanced drilling. Magma intrusion has an important influence on the physical and mechanical properties of coal and rock. In the area of magma intrusion, disasters such as gas outburst are prone to occur. Revealing its invasion law will be conducive to disaster management and energy development. For this purpose, changes in industrial analysis components of coal, mineral composition, major oxides, trace elements, and rare earth elements of coal under the thermal metamorphism of magma intrusion were analyzed. It is found that the moisture and volatile matter contents of the thermally affected coals in the mining face are generally lower than that of normal coals, while moisture and volatile matter contents are reduced towards to the magma intrusion contact. For example, the moisture and volatile matter of coal sample M01 decreased by 64.6% and 38.6% respectively compared with coal sample M05. During magma intrusion, some minerals remain on the surface of the coal body, resulting in changes in the mineral composition of the coal body. The decrease in carbon atom net spacing, the increase in crystallite aggregation and ductility, and aromaticity in thermally affected coals have a positive impact on the improvement of coal metamorphism. Due to the influences of magmatic intrusion, the variation rules of major oxides in coal are different, and the closer to the magmatic intrusion zone, the easier the major oxides are to be depleted. However, magma intrusion will not lead to the loss of all major oxides in thermally affected coals, such as content of CaO is 54.8%, which is higher than that of coal not affected by magmatic hydrothermal fluid. Most of the trace elements in the thermally affected coals of the No. 9 coal seam are depleted. The contents of rare earth elements are low on the whole coalbasis, with an average of 29.48 μg/g, and the distribution pattern towards to magmatic intrusion shows a wide and gentle "V" curve with left high and right low, showing the characteristics of enrichment of light rare earth elements. This study numerically examines the evolution of the stress and displacement fields of rock sur-rounding an oblique normal fault in the longwall working face of a mine. The aim is to determine the law of activation of an abnormal geological body containing coal and rock mass and to provide timely warnings of geological hazards, such as coal and gas bursts, rock bursts, and flooding during coal mining. A high-precision microseismic monitoring system was used to monitor the activation of and damage to the rock surrounding the mine. The results of numerical simulations coupled with those of microseismic monitoring showed that the coal and rock mass near the fault and goaf was situated in an area of high stress, with a high frequency and energy of microseismic events, wherein changes in the displacement of the roof were more significant when the working face was pushed to the fault layer. The combined analysis provides information on the activation of rock surrounding the coal mine and can be used to provide early warnings of mining accidents. China's coal mines have to extend to greater depths for the exploitation of more mineral resources, and they have suffered catastrophic mining-induced disasters, such as rockbursts, water inrushes, coal and gas outbursts, and roof fall accidents. The microseismic monitoring technique is a practical tool for mine safety management, which is extensively utilized in many Chinese coal mines. Microcracks of coal/rock masses are recorded as microseismicities in the field, and the potential mining-induced instabilities can be assessed by in-depth analysis of the microseismic parameters. This study provides a state-of-the-art review of the achievements and developments of the microseismic monitoring technique in coal mines. It also presents some prospects for improving the location accuracy of microseismicity, efficient and intelligent processing of the microseismic data, comprehensive assessment of coal/rock instabilities, and development of new microseismic monitoring equipment. The finite difference model and particle flow model were constructed to reproduce the process of coal and gas outburst in front of the tunnel. The reliability of the particle flow model was verified by studying the internal stress, gas pressure, and related parameters of gas and coal two-phase flow. Then the process of coal and gas outburst is described from a microscopic perspective. Coal and gas outburst is a dynamic disaster that poses a significant threat to coal mines. Energy analysis is an effective tool for understanding the mechanisms behind such outburst. The energy sources and dissipation during outbursts were explored using a multifunctional test system, and the energy transformation relationship was analyzed based on experimental results. Based on these, the crushing mechanism of outburst coal was further investigated. The results show that the adsorbed gas does not all participate in the work during an outburst. Thus, an effective desorption ratio was introduced to characterize quantitatively the percentage of volume of adsorbed gas involved in an outburst. The effective desorption ratios were calculated and found to be in the range of 5.07–13.36% under the test conditions and were primarily related to gas pressure and exhibited an exponential growth relationship. The energy of outbursts generally comes from gas expansion energy, which is 52.7 times that of the elastic strain energy. The gas expansion energy consists of adsorbed gas energy and free gas energy and accounts for 81.6–91.0% of the gas expansion energy, and it is the main energy source for continuous coal fragmentation and transport. The energy conversion of an outburst mainly occurs among gas expansion energy, coal crushing, and transport energy. The energy dissipation under high gas pressure conditions was found to be dominated by crushing energy, whereas under low gas pressure conditions, it was dominated by transport energy. The involvement of ground stress increased the breakage rate of the coal by 23%, whereas the breakage rate of the coal constantly increased with increase in gas pressure. The spatial distributions of the coal mass and crushing power in the roadway were consistent; however, the energy required in the initial stage of coal crushing was significantly larger than that in the middle and final stages. The release and consumption of energy during an outburst are processes of rapid decay from strong to weak. Finally, the processes of preparation, initiation, development, and termination of outbursts are described completely from the perspective of energy evolution, and the roles of ground stress and gas (free gas and adsorbed gas) during outbursts are clarified. The gas contained in coal plays a crucial role in triggering coal and gas outbursts. During an outburst, a large quantity of gas originally absorbed by coal is released from pulverized coal. The role this part of the gas plays in the process of coal and gas outbursts has not been clearly elucidated yet. Therefore, investigating the changes in gas desorption rate from coal particles of different sizes could provide some meaningful insights into the outburst process and improve our understanding of the outburst mechanism. First, combining the diffusivity of coal of different particle sizes and the distribution function of broken coal, we present a gas desorption model for fragmented gas-bearing coal that can quantify gas desorption from coal particles within a certain range of size. Second, the gas desorption rate ratio is defined as the ratio of the gas desorption rate from coal being crushed to that from coal before breaking. The desorption rate ratio is mainly determined by the desorption index (γ) and the granularity distribution index (α). Within the limit range of coal particle sizes, the ratio of effective diffusion coefficient for coal particles with different sizes is directly proportional to the reciprocal of the ratio of particle sizes. Under uniform particle size conditions before and after fragmentation, the gas desorption rate ratio is the square root of the reciprocal of the effective diffusion coefficient. Coal and gas outburst is a violent mechanical instability of gas-containing coal, and its mechanism is crucial for prevention of gas dynamic disasters. The macroscopic instability of gas-containing coal is the result of the expansion and connection of micro cracks driven by unloading induced tensile stress and gas pressure. This study is aimed at solving the problem of crack instability of gas-containing coal during mining unloading. To this end, first, the governing equations of unloading-induced tensile stress and gas pressure evolutions in cracks were built, and the dynamic evolutions and main controlling factors of tensile stress and gas pressure were revealed. Furthermore, the evaluation indexes of crack stability under tensile stress and shear stress were established, and the variation of crack stability during unloading was investigated. Finally, the phase diagram of crack failure mode was drawn, and the transformation of crack failure mode was analyzed. The results show that unloading-induced tensile stress is generated when θ > 54.73°, and it rises gradually with the increase of original stress, unloading rate, unloading time and crack size and dip angle. Overall, gas pressure in cracks increases first and then decreases during unloading. It increases gradually with the increase of initial gas pressure, gas desorption rate and original stress, while it decreases as the unloading rate gets higher (k from 10−4 to 10−2 s−1) and the dip angle gets larger (θ from 50 to 90°). With the increase of unloading ratio, the crack stability declines slowly first and then plunges rapidly until the crack finally becomes unstable. In addition, burial depth of coal seam, unloading rate, gas desorption rate and mechanical strength of coal have significant effects on this process. Different factors have important influences on the crack failure mode. With the increase of burial depth from 100 to 2000 m, the crack failure mode gradually transforms from tensile failure to shear failure, and the higher the unloading rate is, the more easily tensile failure occurs. With the increase of cohesion (0.1–2 MPa), the scope of the shear failure zone shrinks gradually, and the crack is less prone to shear failure. The desorption rate has a notable effect on the scope of the non-failure zone. Under a higher gas desorption rate, the scope of the non-failure zone becomes smaller, which is due to the greater gas pressure in crack for a given time. When rockbursts and coal and gas outbursts simultaneously occur in a coal mine, changes in gas adsorption (concentration of ambient methane) and displacement of coal and rock must occur. The co-associated minerals in coal reservoirs can affect the mechanical properties and methane adsorption capacity, which are commonly disregarded. It is important to construct compound molecular structure models of coal and rock and conduct molecular dynamic simulations to gain a microscopic understanding of underground disasters. In this work, the molecular structure models of anthracite and coking coal–rock compound models containing different contents of calcite and kaolinite were constructed, and the methane adsorption amount and mechanical properties considering temperature, pressure, and mineral contents were simulated and analysed. The results showed that the methane adsorption amount of the compound models increased rapidly, then increased moderately, and stabilized eventually with increasing adsorption pressure, and the Langmuir fitting findings were good. The saturation adsorption amount of methane in the coal models linearly decreased with increasing temperature, while the methane adsorption heat increased. The presence of minerals adsorbed a certain amount of methane, and the methane adsorption amount increased with increasing mineral contents. The mechanical properties of coal molecules changed when mineral molecules such as calcite and kaolinite were present, which had opposite contribution effects. The addition of kaolinite minerals to the coal molecular model always increased the bulk modulus and shear modulus, while the addition of calcite decreased the bulk modulus of the anthracite, causing an increase in the brittleness of the models. Hydraulic fracturing (HF) technology can safely and efficiently increase the permeability of coal seam, which is conducive to CBM exploration and prevent coal and gas outburst. However, conventional HF fractures tend to expand in the direction of maximum principal stress, which may be inconsistent with the direction of fracturing required by the project. Therefore, the increased direction of coal seam permeability is different from that expected. To solve these problems, PFC2D software simulation is used to study directional hydraulic fracturing (DHF), that is the combination of slotting and hydraulic fracturing. The effects of different slotting angles (q), different horizontal stress difference coefficients (K) and different injection pressures on DHF fracture propagation are analyzed. The results show that the DHF method can overcome the dominant effect of initial in-situ stress on the propagation direction of hydraulic fractures and control the propagation of fractures along and perpendicular to the slotting direction when q, K and liquid injection pressure are small. When the DHF fracture is connected with manual slotting, the pressure will shake violently, and the fracturing curve presents a multi-peak type. The increase and decrease of particle pressure around the fracturing hole reflect the process of pressure accumulation and fracture propagation at the fracture tip respectively. Compared with conventional HF, DHF can not only shorten the fracturing time but also make the fracture network more complex, which is more conducive to gas flow. Under the action of in-situ stress, the stress between slots will increase to exceed the maximum horizontal principal stress. Moreover, with the change in fracturing time, the local stress of the model will also change. Hydraulic fractures are always expanding to the area with large local stress. The gas pressure in front area of heading face is essential to dynamically evaluate coal and gas outburst during coal mining. In this work, a novel inversion model of gas pressure in front area of the heading face was established on premise of the hypothesis that a time-dependent zone of steady flow exists within newly exposed face. The key parameters in the inversion model were obtained based on the gas emission models and field data of gas emission rate in different times, which were used to calculate the volumes of gas emission from different sources. The results show that the percentage of gas emission from the heading face, coal wall and collapsed coal ranges from 7% to 47%, 47% to 82% and 2% to 11%, respectively. Based on the calculated volumes of gas emission and gas pressure inversion model, the gas pressure was obtained and transformed to the gas content. The absolute errors between the gas content tested and transformed in every hour is 0.4%–33%, which proved the rationality of gas pressure inversion model. Furthermore, the daily drifting footage, the radius of gas pressure boundary and the gas permeability coefficient of coal seam were confirmed to have a great effect on the result of gas pressure inversion. The inversion results verify that the speedy excavation can increase the risk of coal and gas outburst. Low-rank coal accounts for over half of China's proven coal reserves. The possibility of coal and gas outbursts in low-rank coal is higher, especially in the m·agmatic thermal evolution area. The complexity of coal's molecular structure is one of the reasons for problems during the process of mining operations. Different analysis techniques, including XRD, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy, were used to obtain the molecular characteristics of magmatic thermal evolution coal samples and normal coal samples, so that a comparative study could be carried out to investigate the influence of the magmatic thermal evolution effect on the molecular structure of low-rank coal. The ranges of the aromatic interlayer spacing (d002), average stacking heights (Lc) and stacking layer number (Nave) of the thermally evolved coal samples are 3.41–3.51 Å, 22.76–27.02 Å, and 6.68–7.70, respectively. The ranges of the full width at half maximum ratio (FD1/FG) and the peak integral intensity ratio (ID1/IG) are 2.16–2.19 and 1.55–1.84, respectively. Compared with the normal coal samples, those affected by magmatic thermal evolution have smaller d002, ID1/IG, and FD1/FG values, but larger Lc values. The results indicate that the thermally evolved coal samples have more ordered structures and more developed microcrystalline structure sizes than normal coal samples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Coal mining tends to face increasing stress and gas conditions when it extends to deeper levels. The mining-induced high stress and gas pressure concentrations often result in gasogeodynamic phenomena such as rock bursts and coal & gas outbursts. Over the last decades, these gasogeodynamic events have been observed more often in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin, Poland. With the increasing mining depth, these hazards not only become a serious safety risk but also represent a significant challenge for coal mining. In order to eliminate future hazards and improve safety in underground coal mines, it is necessary to apply particular methods for the prevention and mitigation of possible hazards during mining operations. Inaction or incorrect use of preventive measures may lead to gasogeodynamic events, which may result in accidents and material losses, thereby affecting the mine's economic performance. Several coal mines operated by Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa S.A. (JSW group), such as Pniówek, Budryk and Zofiówka coal mines have been identified as the area most prone to rock bursts as well as coal and gas outburst. Generally, the longwall panels often experience a high degree of these mining hazards. Therefore, the main aim of this research is to examine and optimise the possibility of application of prevention methods in order to reduce the frequency and scale of dangerous gasogeodynamic phenomena such as coal and gas outburst. As a main part, the field testing of the selected preventive methods that were conducted in the JSW coal mines. Based on the obtained results, the possibility of application of an optimal method for the prevention and control of coal and gas outburst in the geomining conditions of the JSW coal mines was discussed. A probabilistic risk assessment framework was developed to mathematically represent the complex engineering phenomena of rock bursts and gas outbursts for a heterogeneous coal seam. An innovative object-based non-conditional simulation approach was used to distribute lithological heterogeneity present in the coal seam to respect their geological origin. The changing mining conditions during longwall top coal caving mining (LTCC) were extracted from a coupled numerical model to provide statistically sufficient data for probabilistic analysis. The complex interdependencies among abutment stress, pore pressure, the volume of total gas emission and incremental energy release rate, their stochastic variations and uncertainty were realistically implemented in the GoldSim software, and 100,000 equally likely scenarios were simulated using the Monte Carlo method to determine the probability of rock bursts and gas outbursts. The results obtained from the analysis incorporate the variability in mechanical, elastic and reservoir properties of coal due to lithological heterogeneity and result in the probability of the occurrence of rock bursts, coal and gas outbursts, and safe mining conditions. The framework realistically represents the complex mining environment, is resilient and results are reliable. The framework is generic and can be suitably modified to be used in different underground mining scenarios, overcoming the limitations of earlier empirical indices used. To address the limitations of cement-based and polyurethane sealing materials, this paper presents a novel non-coagulant long-term sealing material. Firstly, the optimal material ratio was determined through experiments involving constant temperature and weightlessness. The optimum proportion of modifier to be added is obtained by constant temperature weight loss experiments. Secondly, microscopic analysis revealed that the modified component was effectively inserted into the group. To simulate the underground gas extraction conditions in coal mines, drainage and plugging experiments were designed. The results showed that the new material had a 100% plugging performance during the observation time, while the plugging performance of cement-based and polyurethane sealing materials significantly decreased under the same experimental conditions. Finally, the non-coagulant long-term sealing material was applied in the gas drainage experiment of tunnel 53,081 at Changping Coal Mine. Compared to the original cement-based sealing material, the gas extraction concentration of the borehole increased by 16.5%. The prediction of coal and gas outburst is very necessary for the prevention of gas disaster, so an outburst prediction model coupled with feature extraction and feature weighting using optimized classifier is proposed. First, Pearson correlation coefficient(PCC) and symmetric uncertainty(SU) are employed to measure the effective information in outburst sample data. Second, Kernel principal component analysis(KPCA) and linear discriminant analysis(LDA) methods are used to extract the exiting discriminate information, and the extracted linear and nonlinear feature information can effectively reflect significant information of outburst influencing factors. Third, the combination of gradient boost decision tree(GBDT) and grey relation analysis(GRA) is used to weight and fuse the extracted linear and nonlinear feature components, then form a new feature set as important discriminant information. Forth, the weighted and fused features of the coal and gas outburst influencing factors are used as the input of support vector machine(SVM) classifier with optimized parameters, it can classify outburst states, and the achieved classification accuracy can obtain 95%. Finally, the proposed model and the existing outburst classification models in literatures are used to predict outburst, then the experiment results verify the effectiveness of the proposed model and conclude that the performance of the proposed predication model are significant than present outburst prediction models. Low-index coal and gas outburst (LI-CGO) is difficult to predict, which seriously threatens the efficient mining of coal. To predict the LI-CGO, the Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm was used in this study. The Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm was used to optimize the parameters of the SVM algorithm. The results show that based on the training sets and test set in this study, the prediction accuracy of SVM is higher than that of Back Propagation Neural Network and Distance Discriminant Analysis. The prediction accuracy of the SVM model trained by the training set T2 with LI-CGO cases is higher than that of the SVM model trained by the training set T1 without LI-CGO cases. The prediction accuracy gets better when the SVM model is trained by the training set T3, made by adding the data of the other two coal mines (EH and SH) to the training set T2, that only contains the data of XP and PJ. Furthermore, the PSO-SVM model achieves a better predictive effect than the SVM model, with an accuracy rate of 90%. The research results can provide a method reference for the prediction of LI-CGO. Understanding the adsorbability and thermodynamic properties of tectonic coal (TC) is crucial to prevent coal and gas outbursts. Limited research has been conducted on the effects of mass ratios of TC because of its high brittleness and sampling difficulty. By investigating the adsorbability, adsorption heat, entropy, and Gibbs evolution during the adsorption of coal samples, it was revealed that the TC content affected directly the adsorption capacity, which increased at first and then decreased. For virgin coal (VC) and TC of equal quality (50% mass ratio), the adsorption quality, adsorption constant a, specific surface area Gibbs free energy, adsorption heat, and adsorption entropy reached their peaks, except the adsorption constant b, which reached the minimum value. Therefore, when TC accounted for 50%, appropriate measures should be applied to mitigate outbursts. Moreover, a comprehensive control model of several factors under various mass ratios of TC was proposed to describe the adsorption characteristics and corresponding thermodynamic property evolutions of TC and VC before coal–gas outburst. Tectonic coal seams are characterized by soft, low permeability and high gas outburst. The traditional gas control method is the intensive drilling and extraction in this seam, which is not only large in engineering quantity, high in cost, difficult to form holes and low in extraction efficiency, but also easy to induce coal and gas outburst, which is a difficult problem for global coal mine gas control. To solve this difficult problem, the controllable shockwave equipment developed by the author's team and successfully applied in the practice of permeability enhancement of coal seam, combined with the principles of shock vibration sound wave generation and shock wave attenuation and evolution in the rock stratum, a new idea of loading a controllable shock wave in the roof and floor of coal seam is proposed. The shock wave first attenuates and evolves into a high-strength sound wave in the roof and floor rock stratum, and then enters and loads into the coal seam to achieve the purpose of increasing permeability without damaging the physical properties of the tectonic coal seam and facilitating the opening of the original fractures. According to the new technical ideas, the implementation scheme and key parameters of the gas pre-extraction models in tectonic coal seam are designed, including the penetration drilling, roof and floor horizontal holes, shield tunneling and the high-strength acoustic wave of the working face, which provides a new technical approach to solve the problem of high efficiency and low cost gas extraction in the tectonic coal seam. With the increasing mining depth, the dynamic disaster of coal and gas outbursts in coal mines has become increasingly prominent, and the bursting liability of coal and rock mass in deep coal seam mining is a necessary condition for the occurrence of rock burst and an important index to measure the failure of coal and rock mass. Thermal damage leads to rock instability and failure, which seriously influences the safe and efficient operation of coal mines. To investigate the effect of thermal damage on the bursting liability of deep coals, the burst tendency index of standard coal was measured after subjecting it to thermal damage at different temperatures. The effects of different thermal damage temperatures on the uniaxial compressive strength index, dynamic failure duration, stiffness ratio index, effective impact energy index, residual energy index change rate, and impact energy velocity of the coal and the influence of the post-peak failure mode of the coal were evaluated. The results revealed that the uniaxial compressive strength of the coal generally decreased with increasing thermal damage temperature. At temperatures above 200 °C, the strength significantly decreased. The comprehensive impact property index indicated that, with increasing thermal impact temperature, the burst tendency first increased up to the peak value at 200 °C and then gradually decreased. With the increase in the thermal damage temperature, the burst tendency decreased and disappeared in the temperature range of 250–300 °C, and the failure mode of the coal changed from brittle failure to brittle plastic failure, and finally ductile failure. In order to explore the relationship between IEERG and outburst intensity and verify the feasibility of the former in predicting coal and gas outburst, a series tests with different gases and different gas pressures were conducted on the basis of self-developed coal and gas outburst simulation system and IEERG measuring instrument. The results show that with the increase of gas pressure, the IEERG increases gradually. Under the same gas pressure, the coal has the strongest adsorption capacity for CO2, followed by CH4 and N2. When the IEERG is less than 24.40 mJ·g−1, no outburst will occur. When the IEERG is greater than 24.40 mJ·g−1, weak outburst will occur. When the IEERG is greater than 34.72 mJ·g−1, strong outburst will occur. This shows that the magnitude of IEERG is closely related to the outburst. The larger the IEERG, the greater the possibility of outburst and the greater the intensity of outburst. It is feasible to predict the risk of outburst using IEERG, and it can be quantified. • Application problems of the Hodot's energy criterion were found. • The characterization methods of coal deformation energy and gas expansion energy were determined. • The influence mechanism of coal deformation energy on outburst was discussed. • A spatiotemporal evolution model of the release of outburst energy was proposed. Coal deformation energy and gas expansion energy are the main power sources for coal and gas outbursts (called outbursts for short). Although the combined effect hypothesis of the outbursts has been widely recognized, the contribution of the coal deformation energy to the outbursts is always despised compared with the gas expansion energy. In this paper, the famous energy criterion for outburst trigger proposed by Hodot was reviewed systematically. It was found that Hodot's energy criterion pays more attention to coal deformation energy and almost ignores gas expansion energy, different from the views in most literatures related to outburst energy. The characterization methods of coal deformation energy and gas expansion energy were summarized. Experimental results show that the deformation energy of tectonic coal with high outburst risk has a power function relationship with stress and the power exponent is between 1 and 2, indicating that the deformation properties of tectonic coal is between soil and elastomer. The releasing mode of the deformation energy of tectonic coal is different from that of intact coal, that is, the deformation energy of intact coal and tectonic coal mainly releases outward and dissipates inward respectively after they are damaged. The coal deformation energy was proved to have the same order of magnitude with the gas expansion energy, about 102 to 103 kJ/t. A new energy release model for whole process of outbursts was established to discuss the role of coal deformation energy in actual outbursts. It was finally determined that the pre-release of deformation energy of tectonic coal is the necessary condition for the accumulation of the free gas expansion energy and outburst trigger. The stress wave generated by impact or dynamic load will produce significant reflection and transmission at the rock coal or rock interface during the propagation process. This will produce dynamic effects such as dynamic tensile, stress superposition and mutation. These dynamic effects will lead to obvious vibration at the interfaces, which is a key factor leading to dynamic damage and the failure of coal and rock mass. In the process of underground engineering excavation, the dynamic damage of a series of layered rock masses is one of the important factors causing geological disasters. Based on the two–dimensional similar material simulation experiment, the coal and rock mass combined of five layers of fine sandstone, medium sandstone, coal, coarse sandstone and mudstone was taken as the research object, and single and multi-point excitation (synchronous/step-by-step) were used to test the time–history vibration curves of rock–coal and rock–rock interfaces under impact load. It was concluded that the change of extreme value of vibration amplitude presented two stages: first increase, and then attenuation. Most of them required 2.25 cycles to reach the peak value, and the dynamic attenuation of amplitude conformed to the law of exponential. Based on Fast Fourier transform (FFT), the spectrum structures of the amplitude–frequency of interface vibration were studied, and the two predominant frequencies were 48.9~53.7 Hz and 92.4 Hz, respectively. Based on the Hilbert-Huang transform and energy equation, 5~7 vibration modes (IMF) were obtained by decomposing the time–history curves. The three modes, IMF1, IMF2, and IMF3, contained high energy and were effective vibration modes. IMF2 accounted for the highest proportion and was the main vibration mode whose predominant frequencies were concentrated in 45.6~50.2 Hz. Therefore, IMF2 played a decisive role in the whole vibration process and had an important impact on the dynamic response, damage and failure of coal and rock mass. In real conditions, the actual predominant frequencies can be converted according to the size and mechanical properties of the coal and rock mass, and the vibration response characteristics of the interfaces between coal and rock mass under impact load were preliminarily revealed.
