Discussion over the years regarding the quality of newly graduated engineers in Brazil has concluded that there are gaps between learning and market expectations. Analyzing the current scenario, the Ministry of Education (MEC) has approved new national curriculum guidelines that emphasize skills development and the adoption of active methodologies. The aim is to develop students as protagonists of their own learning. One of these methodologies is game-based learning (GBL), which utilizes games for educational purposes to integrate theory and practice. GBL simulates reality and presents concepts in a playful way, resulting in greater student engagement and interest. However, research shows that a lack of knowledge and difficulty accessing such games are barriers to implementing this methodology. Previous research has focused on the development of serious game metadata (SGM), the establishment of controlled vocabularies, and the identification of educational games targeting production engineering (PE). The authors of the present paper developed a database focused on the disciplines and content covered in production engineering courses. The paper describes the database and its aims to: (a) increase the use of games in the teaching-learning process; (b) make the process more effective; and (c) prepare better professionals. The introduction of ICT into education in educational settings has become increasingly common. Among these, the research and development of educational support robots have attracted attention. Conventional robots provide academic support through button operation by the learner. However, it has been reported that excessive requests for academic support can be problematic in environments in which learners can freely request academic support. To solve this problem, we developed a perplexion estimation method that estimates the state of perplexion from the learner's facial expression. When educational support is provided using the proposed method, the robot can autonomously provide academic support. Simulation experiments demonstrated that the perplexion estimation method has the potential to accurately estimate the learner's state. However, there is still no dedicated model for educational support robots that utilizes the perplexion estimation method. Therefore, this paper proposes an apprenticeship promotion model that integrates a learning support method based on cognitive apprenticeship theory and our perplexion estimation method. We then verified the learning effects of the robot equipped with the proposed model on the learner through participant experiments. The experimental results suggest that the robot equipped with the proposed model not only provides the same learning effect to university students as a conventional robot, but also can autonomously provide academic support at the optimal timing. As online education continues to proliferate that there is a need to understand how institutions can better support faculty in the transition to online education. Building on work that has suggested the importance of learning spaces for faculty to engage in discussion and reflection on their move to online education, this paper employs Bakhtin's notion of ideological becoming to provide a theoretically grounded understanding of how the design of such spaces can better facilitate this move. The paper reveals how learning spaces designed to develop critical awareness empower faculty to navigate discourses of online education, enabling them to build on their existing knowledge and skills as educators. The findings reveal how engaging faculty in critical dialogue can enable a cumulative shift in thinking from discussions dominated by authoritative discourses of online education that create an initial confusion between performance and pedagogy to the development of critical awareness that enables them to challenge dominant discourses and reconnect with the self as an experienced educator. Purpose and problems: The purpose of this article is to investigate some challenges for working teachers and to present selected issues that are not always known and understood, but which concern one of the key problems of education: the profession of teaching. Research methods: In this article, the "teacher" aspect is examined in a comparative context: from the perspective of social, economic and political conditions. For this purpose, methods of comparative analysis relating to a number of indicators and information from an international perspective are used (based on a critical choice of data from different studies). This helps clarify some relationships that can be found. Structure of the article: The article consists of three parts. The first part focusses on inclusive education (here limited mainly to the inclusion of culturally and linguistically diverse students). The second addresses the financing of education and the work of the teacher (with a focus on student performance against this background), whilst the third part covers issues such as digital transformation and scientific capital. Research findings and their impact on the development of educational sciences: The information and theses presented herein allow one to look at the teaching profession in a way that is less pedagogical and more political or social. Results/recommendations: Firstly, the paper shows that many teachers are not well-prepared to teach students from different ethnic backgrounds, speaking foreign languages etc. A second, somewhat more widely discussed point is that teachers generally earn less than workers with similar education. Furthermore, in some cases, it is not always more funding for education or higher salaries for teachers that result in better student performance. Entrepreneurial education is considered one of the most important sources for encouraging entrepreneurship and promoting entrepreneurial behaviors among young people. The objective of this paper is to provide an overview of the convergence of policies and strategies for the promotion and development of entrepreneurial education in Romania and the member states of the European Union. The convergence between Romania and the European Union in terms of the development of entrepreneurship education was analyzed by comparing the relevant elements for the promotion and development of entrepreneurship education in Romania with a series of aspects that emerge from the strategies and documents adopted at the level of the European Union and the member states. The conclusions of the study indicate that Western European countries are more interested in the development of educational programs capable of developing the skills necessary for an active business environment. Because intercultural communication has become one of the most demanded skills in the current digitalized world, many educational institutions aspire to graduate students who possess intercultural skills and are able to successfully communicate with people from diverse cultures. However, intercultural communication has not received much attention in the Lebanese context, especially in schools. To this end, this paper examined the Lebanese high school directors' perceptions of intercultural communication. As pragmatists, the researchers employed quantitative and qualitative methods to better understand the problem under investigation. Using a snowball sampling, they surveyed the perceptions of 55 Lebanese director.s in private and public high schools and interviewed two informants in the Center for Educational Research and Development. The collected data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Then, the derived conclusions were compared to ensure trust worthiness of the findings. Major findings showed that though intercultural communication is a learning outcome in most schools, it is mostly taught at the knowledge level in the foreign language classrooms. Assessment of this outcome was neither systematic nor consistent. It was also shown that directors in private schools tended to be more informed than those in the public sector. Within the European Commission's Digital Education Action Plan (2021–2027) and the DigCompEdu framework, our research focuses on the competence area of teachers' assessment practices and needs. We designed a 24-item online questionnaire for Romanian higher education teachers who are using digital technologies for assessing students' learning, learning outcomes and practical skills. The present paper analyzes how the 60 respondents from Romanian universities evaluate their own digital competence and how they are using digital assessment, but also what training needs they have in these regards. This study, carried out in May–June 2022, therefore attempts to identify the main concerns, challenges and obstacles higher education teachers encounter when designing and using digital assessment. Our findings indicate the importance of empowering teachers through continuous learning, embracing flexible hybrid models and reimagining assessment strategies for digital literacy. The ANOVA analysis reveals variations among three groups categorized by self-reported digital competencies in their utilization of digital tools. Responsible knowledge-sharing, AI literacy and adaptive curriculum design emerged as critical imperatives. Our study advocates for a transformative shift towards AI-based pedagogy, emphasizing personalized learning that aligns with teachers' competencies and specific assessment needs while adhering to fundamental teaching principles. This paper aims to identify secondary teachers' perspectives regarding educational supervision as well as the role of the inspector in convincing teachers of his/her applied supervisory method. The previous viewpoint has given way to a new one that believes in the developmental supervision method, as this new method stems from the supervisor's ability to anticipate the future and stay current on educational developments in the professional development field. This includes the ability to forecast future educational needs for the organization and the administrative direction of education. In addition, the developmental supervision method comprises the presentation of educational innovations and their incorporation into study programs, content, practices, and means, as well as the target audience. The public education policy of an individual country determines, among other things, the ways of documenting the educational process and children's outcomes. This paper explores the opinion of preschool teachers about documenting children's development. The sample included preschool teachers from two systems, or two different curricular approaches. One exists in the Republic of Croatia (curriculum based on the competence framework) and other in Bosnia and Herzegovina (curriculum based on normative outcomes). The measuring instrument Questionnaire of Preschool Teachers' Opinions on Monitoring the Psycho-physical Status of Children (a= .847), was constructed for research purposes. The Questionnaire was based on relevant literature and insights into existing educational practices. On a dichotomously structured 4-level scale, preschool teachers estimated that the most important purpose of documenting children's development is the planning of developmental incentives (M=3.63; SD= 0.495). They agree that monitoring should be continuous throughout the entire academic year (M=3.53; SD= 0.666). Likewise, preschool teachers are less inclined to one-time assessments of a children's psycho-physical status, considering "a testing" unlikely to provide a realistic image of their development (M=1.88; SD=0.797). No correlation was found between preschool teachers' age, length of service, and level of education. Using the t-test of independent samples, a mild/weak, but statistically significant difference in the preschool teachers' assessment between the subsamples was determined. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: One of the most critical changes to academic library services in the last decade has been the development and implementation of research data services (RDS). This paper seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of conceptual models for the RDS space. Design/methodology/approach: An extensive and comprehensive review of the literature on conceptual models for RDS is performed. Findings: Various conceptual models for RDS provide a compelling tool for guiding and evaluating RDS development and implementation within academic libraries. The existing cloud sharing system of educational resources is in the form of centralized management, which has the problems of small number of concurrent users and low score of resource retrieval results and cannot meet the current needs of implicit educational resource sharing. Therefore, a cloud sharing system of college implicit educational resources based on service architecture is proposed. At present, the sharing of educational resources mainly includes network teaching, distance education, and other methods. These schemes alleviate the sharing problem of educational data resources to a certain extent. However, the sharing and rational integrated utilization of educational application software are still under exploration, and there is no mature solution at present. At present, there is a lack of unified planning for the construction of the educational resource database of the management cadre college, and there are problems such as repeated construction, complex quantity, and nonstandard form, which directly leads to the failure of effective dissemination of resource information in the network distance education system, which is an urgent problem to be solved in the distance education system of the management cadre college. This paper first understands some domestic and foreign standardization and development of educational resources. Then, it introduces the ontology theory and the basic theory of metadata. At present, the construction of educational resource database in colleges and universities in China lacks unified planning, and there are problems such as repeated construction, complex quantity, and nonstandard form, which makes the resource information in the network distance education system unable to be shared and disseminated effectively. In order to improve the utilization of online educational resources and share the data of resource databases with different structures, a metadata management platform model of educational resources is designed. As a new architecture idea, service-oriented architecture can package existing assets and reuse existing assets. It can also minimize the impact of demand changes. This paper puts forward the process of metadata management under the service architecture and independently develops a metadata management platform suitable for the development and use of service mode. This paper challenges the view that internationalisation of higher education is a 'global public good' by examining the growing tension between centres and peripheries in higher education. We argue for the need to develop new conceptual frameworks of internationalisation that recognise the uneven landscape of higher education, and that take greater account of the local (socio-political and geographic) contexts in which institutions are situated. Drawing on a recent study of universities in the less explored Eastern regions of Russia, this paper shows how Klemenčič's integrated approach to higher education internationalisation provides a useful conceptual framework for exploring and potentially guiding the internationalisation process in higher education institutions in the periphery. Developing an evidence-base for educational provision can be an arduous journey. To facilitate consistent and accurate implementation of promising approaches, research efforts need to answer questions relating to theoretical coherence, efficacy, effectiveness, cost, ease of use, and acceptability. An evidence-building framework can help us to think critically about the current state of evidence and plan a long-term research programme. In this conceptual paper, we draw attention to an evidence-building framework from medical and psychosocial science that conceptualises the phases and challenges along this journey. We have adapted this framework to help researchers and other education practitioners conceptualise how to review, synthesise, generate and communicate evidence in education. This framework facilitates a questions-to-methods approach in our journey to evidence, dissolving the idea that some research and analysis methods are superior to others. We argue that this evidence building framework can help us to distinguish between key terms in education, such as evidence-informed and evidence-based practice, as well as teacher enquiry and research--helping to distinguish the roles of researchers and practitioners. Background: Cognitive and implicit biases negatively impact clinicians' decision-making capacity and can have devastating consequences for safe, effective, and equitable healthcare provision. Internationally, health care clinicians play a critical role in identifying and overcoming these biases. To be workforce ready, it is important that educators proactively prepare all pre-registration healthcare students for real world practice. However, it is unknown how and to what extent health professional educators incorporate bias training into curricula. To address this gap, this scoping review aims to explore what approaches to teaching cognitive and implicit bias, for entry to practice students, have been studied, and what are the evidence gaps that remain. Methods: This scoping review was guided by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology. Databases were searched in May 2022 and included CINAHL, Cochrane, JBI, Medline, ERIC, Embase, and PsycINFO. The Population, Concept and Context framework was used to guide keyword and index terms used for search criteria and data extraction by two independent reviewers. Quantitative and qualitative studies published in English exploring pedagogical approaches and/or educational techniques, strategies, teaching tools to reduce the influence of bias in health clinicians' decision making were sought to be included in this review. Results are presented numerically and thematically in a table accompanied by a narrative summary. Results: Of the 732 articles identified, 13 met the aim of this study. Most publications originated from the United States (n=9). Educational practice in medicine accounted for most studies (n=8), followed by nursing and midwifery (n=2). A guiding philosophy or conceptual framework for content development was not indicated in most papers. Educational content was mainly provided via face-to-face (lecture/tutorial) delivery (n=10). Reflection was the most common strategy used for assessment of learning (n=6). Cognitive biases were mainly taught in a single session (n=5); implicit biases were taught via a mix of single (n=4) and multiple sessions (n=4). Conclusions: A range of pedagogical strategies were employed; most commonly, these were face-to-face, class-based activities such as lectures and tutorials. Assessments of student learning were primarily based on tests and personal reflection. There was limited use of real-world settings to educate students about or build skills in biases and their mitigation. There may be a valuable opportunity in exploring approaches to building these skills in the real-world settings that will be the workplaces of our future healthcare workers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The research paper elaborates on the main concepts and terminology of strategic planning in education, including all the steps of building a strategic plan with mission and vision statements. Furthermore, it analyses and compares some successful strategic planning case studies in education by identifying the strengths and some weaknesses. The final results of this inquiry serve as recommendations for positive changes and reforms in North Macedonian education. Furthermore, this research paper emphasizes the importance of the SMART strategic goals for improving education, articulated via the mission and vision statements. It is quite interesting that internationally accredited educational organizations like NOVA IS of Skopje have more successful improvement plans based on shared values and goals via their mission and vision. The implementation of their strategic plans is closely monitored and evaluated. Moreover, some successful educational reforms happened in Finland, Singapore, and Victoria, Australia, and their ministries of education are dedicated and accountable to aligning their mission and vision with all public schools in these countries. On the contrary, although the Ministry of Education of North Macedonia has clearly published the mission and vision statements, there is still a huge gap in the reality of implementation of those in all public schools, and rarely any school has a shared mission and vision on their web page. Browsing around, one primary school in North Macedonia, "Jan Amos Komenski" has recently started sharing their school's mission and vision, values, and goals with the community which is a positive change toward SMART reforms. The introduction of the BANI (Brittle, Anxious, Nonlinear, Incomprehensible) framework as a response to the volatile and unpredictable nature of contemporary environments has further emphasized the need for innovative approaches to education. This paper explores the innovative development of educational systems within the BANI environment, focusing on the integration of emerging technologies, pedagogical strategies, and learner-centred approaches. The paper begins by providing a comprehensive overview of the BANI framework and its implications for educational systems. It highlights the key characteristics of the BANI envi-ronment, including its inherent brittleness, anxiety-inducing nature, nonlinearity, and incomprehensibility. The formal model of interaction between projects and the BANI environment can assess innovation project value for future optimisation. Furthermore, it elucidates the potential consequences of neglecting to adapt educational systems to these volatile conditions, emphasizing the importance of innovation in education. Drawing upon recent research and theoretical frameworks, the paper explores various innovative approaches to educational development in the BANI environment. It discusses the integration of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augmented reality, into teaching and learn-ing processes. Moreover, it investigates the implementation of learner-centred development strategies that foster critical thinking, problem-solving skills, creativity, and adaptability. Through a comparative analysis of policy texts from UN organisations and scholarly work since the 1990s this paper examines how mothers are portrayed in simplistic terms, as educated thus beneficial for their daughters' schooling, or deprived of education causing detriment to their daughters' future prospects. Drawing on semi-structured interviews with mothers from rural Pakistan, these global comparisons are brought into conversation with local narratives showing how mothers' aspirations facilitate daughters' educational opportunities. It is argued that mothers' subjectivities have a potential to inform global policy discourses for investigating the aspirational and transformational potential of mothers in contexts of material and social constraint. The vocational experiences and skills of young adolescents could be infused into formal education by identifying career competencies to be taught within the academic curriculum. Such curriculum practices that embed educational and career pathways must also include the perspectives of students and the community, particularly those from marginalised groups. Drawing on data from 111 teachers, principals, carers and students, this paper presents research undertaken to co-design career education lesson plans within an infused model of the curriculum for early Middle Year students from regional, rural, and remote Australia. The lesson plans and activities were designed to allow for meaningful self-reflection and goal-setting that could be seamlessly infused into the formal curriculum and help embed early-stage career education. The paper concludes by projecting opportunities and challenges for seamless curriculum integration, while pertinent to the Australian context, can also be read with broader relevance to other educational systems and schools. This paper reports on the design and development of educational games and materials that utilize affordable e-textile technology. The researchers employed a design-based approach whereby preschool children used three e-textile materials in two cycles to inform on the development of interactive materials from ordinary objects and bodily interactive games. The study's data were collected and analyzed according to the designbased research framework through iterative cycles of interviewing, video recording, and note-taking. The paper describes the characteristics, pros, and cons of e-textiles and what to consider when using them to create interactive educational materials for preschool-aged children. Purpose: Changing the present behavior of individuals toward a more sustainable lifestyle is a complex task requiring a well-established strategy and institutional commitment. The purpose of this paper is to understand the strategic steps, as proposed by Steg and Vlek (2009), that has been mostly focused on by higher education institutions (HEIs) in the past decade (2010–2020) to foster pro-environmental behavior (PEB) of students. Design/methodology/approach: A literature review was conducted following the approach given by Denyer and Tranfield (2009). Subsequently, the results of 147 articles from 22 journals were discussed using the seven-element system proposed by Lozano et al. (2013). Findings: In the past decade, HEIs have increased their efforts to improve their understanding of the determinants of PEB of students and methods to foster PEB. However, the results indicated that the classification was similar to previous studies, with HEIs focused mainly on assessing students in terms of personal factors (assessment and reporting category), understanding the relationships among psychological determinants and their influence on student behavior (research category) and planning educational interventions (education category). Originality/value: This is the first study that reviewed the role of HEIs in fostering PEBs of students using the approach proposed by Lozano et al. What are the factors hindering educational development among Muslims in India in general and the newly born Telangana state in particular, is the key sociological question confronting the educationists and policymakers? The current paper based on empirical study provides an anthropological perspective to understand a number of socio-cultural factors responsible for lower retention and higher dropout rates among Muslims in public schools across the class and gender lines. It highlights that with positive state interventions, the enrolment and retention levels of Muslim working-class children have increased enormously besides a significant improvement in the same among Muslim girls also. Thus the paper argues that a relaxation in school protocols facilitates Muslim children integrating the academic demands and socio-cultural obligations they deem necessary while addressing culturally sensitive issues in curriculum and pedagogic practices foster attitudinal changes together which contribute immensely to the educational advancement among them. Teaching children to read is one of the most fundamental goals of early years and primary education worldwide, and as such has attracted a large amount of research from a range of academic disciplines. The aims of this paper are: (a) to provide a new critical examination of research evidence relevant to effective teaching of phonics and reading in the context of national curricula internationally; (b) to report new empirical findings relating to phonics teaching in England; and (c) examine some implications for policy and practice. The paper reports new empirical findings from two sources: (1) a systematic qualitative meta‐synthesis of 55 experimental trials that included longitudinal designs; (2) a survey of 2205 teachers. The paper concludes that phonics and reading teaching in primary schools in England has changed significantly for the first time in modern history, and that compared to other English dominant regions England represents an outlier. The most robust research evidence, from randomised control trials with longitudinal designs, shows that the approach to phonics and reading teaching in England is not sufficiently underpinned by research evidence. It is recommended that national curriculum policy is changed and that the locus of political control over curriculum, pedagogy and assessment should be re‐evaluated. This paper charts the development of one of Ireland's first comprehensive schools located in Carraroe in County Galway. Through a systematic, historical analysis of Department of Education and diocesan correspondence, this article provides a unique insight into how official policy was reconciled at ground level. The analysis exposes the ambiguity of previous studies surrounding the role of the church hierarchy in educational reform during the 1960s and seeks to clearly identify key personnel involved in consolidating policy concerning the comprehensive school scheme. Underpinning this narrative, is the deliberate exclusion, by both church and state, of local school authorities from policy decision-making regarding the comprehensive school in Carraroe. In particular, this paper illustrates how a paradigm shift in Department of Education negotiation tactics provided the government with an effective means for introducing new educational policy measures in the future. The expanding role of the Chinese language in international communications has become increasingly prominent as China's comprehensive national power continues to grow, leading to a significant rise in the number of Chinese language learners. Since online teaching is not limited by time and space, its application is widespread. For beginners in the Chinese language, the Chinese characters are both a priority and a challenge. The "Chinese Character Classification," also known as the "Six Writings," is the earliest systematic theory of Chinese character structures, and teaching Chinese characters in categories based on the "Chinese Character Classification" is a method that fits the cognition of beginners. In order to teach Chinese characters in a targeted approach, based on the collection and analysis of the common errors of Chinese characters among beginners, this paper proposes that (a) the intuitive method can be applied to teach pictographic characters, indicative characters, and associative compound characters in online teaching; (b) the inductive-deductive method of "basic characters to new characters" can be applied for the teaching of pictophonetic characters and associative compound characters; (c) the learning of character patterns should be approached in a whole-part-whole process, while importance should be attached to the suggestion of the frequency effect with a view to facilitating the online learning of Chinese characters for beginners. This paper presents the results of a pedagogical experiment on the development of media literacy in children of primary school age (7–10 years) in different conditions: at home, at home and school, only at school. Parents who took part in the programme "Media Literacy for parents" were involved in this study. The purpose of the paper was to analyse the effectiveness of media literacy tools in primary school children used in different conditions. The study was conducted through a mixed method, using a questionnaire on media literacy and interviews with parents. The level of media literacy development of younger schoolchildren in the group where the techniques were used at home and school is statistically higher than in children from the group where the techniques were used only at school. The interview results confirmed the need for recommendations for parents and the effectiveness of parental mediation in the development of their children's media literacy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With some of the propositions from the literature on 'policy enactments' as a backdrop, this paper addresses the circulation of a research policy innovation and its effects on the knowledge territory of an unlikely profession. Specifically, I show how the Research Excellence Frameworks' impact policy in the UK was an object first managed by policymakers but later released as an object of concern for professional academics, including philosophers. I follow 'impact' through texts, events and testimonies about its doings with a special interest in its creation, its polemical encounter with philosophers, its management and issues about its definition and the assessment criteria used and experienced by philosophers. I conclude with some remarks on the effects that the circulation and writing of impact case studies had on producing a social valorisation and attachment to impact, even amongst philosophers. This paper examines Bauhaus School (1919–1933) innovation and relevance today. The School is a landmark in the history of design as a discipline and the development of design education. The School was also a workplace, commercialising Bauhaus-designed products. While drawing global interest in its innovations, the School faced resistance in Germany because it challenged conventions. This problem raises the questions: How did the School-workplace generate innovations amid the calamity of post-war Germany, and what is the significance of the Bauhaus for post-pandemic education and workplaces one hundred years on? The concept of 'transgression' is used to understand innovation at the Bauhaus School-workplace. Haraway discusses transgressive practices that disrupt established knowledges, moving ways of thinking and doing in new directions. Analysis of workplace learning research reveals that three interfacing dimensions make up innovation: (1) workplace environments, (2) the culture-order that facilitates innovation, and (3) learning in practice in authentic settings. This qualitative case study reports on how Bauhaus innovation emerged at the intersection of these key dimensions. There are surprising commonalities between the Bauhaus approach to innovation in challenging times and contemporary thinking about supporting innovation which are relevant to education, particularly STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) education, and workplaces in a world affected by the COVID 19 pandemic. Thus, encouraging people who challenge boundaries, rules or 'the way things are' can support innovation. This paper addresses a gap in workplace learning research on interrelated dimensions of innovation which the Bauhaus recognized. The study also offers an innovative approach to the examination of innovation across time and space whereas most contemporary studies of innovation focus on the present. This paper evaluates an Environmental Education programme where the barriers and opportunities for professional development, access to specialist resources, provision through technology and partnership are considered within the context of Wales and the demands of a new curriculum. The findings reflect on the first three years of an education programme that uses a Theory of Change framework to plan for learning with 9–11 year olds in Wales, UK. Drawing on qualitative individual and group interviews with teachers and pupils across six schools, the successes and challenges of this framework are presented. I suggest that combining a Theory of Change framework with a Capability Approach—focussing on values and agency—offers a more useful planning tool for curriculums developing strategies where teacher agency is encouraged—compared to using one approach alone. Research and writing are integral to academic identity; however, professionals identifying as Learning Developers form an international practitioner community with limited expectations for publishing. Inhabiting the liminal space between academic and professional roles, they have only recently begun to develop their own disciplinary scholarship. In this paper, the authors – Learning Developers who have transitioned from discipline-based to LD-based writing – argue that Learning Development (LD) struggles to be perceived as a distinctive academic field because it has not yet sufficiently written itself into existence. They propose a model for writing as liberatory practice that facilitates scholarly conversations and co-creation of an academic field. Through collective autoethnography, the authors build on their own positionality in LD in order to outline a framework for knowledge production, and demonstrate that scholars in emerging disciplines need encouragement and support to unlock their practitioner knowledge and articulate what makes them a unique scholarly field. This research paper examines the educational development that took place during the period of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم and the Rashidun Caliphs. By analyzing historical accounts, primary sources, and scholarly works, the study explores the initiatives and practices to promote education and knowledge acquisition in early Islamic society. The research highlights the Prophet Muhammad's صلى الله عليه وسلم emphasis on the pursuit of knowledge and his role as a teacher, mentor, and inspirer of learning. His focus on establishment of educational institutions such as the "Suffah" and the encouragement of companions to seek and disseminate knowledge from the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. Furthermore, the paper focuses the educational policies and reforms implemented by the Rashidun Caliphs, including the establishment of schools, libraries, and centers of learning. The study also examines the inclusiveness of the educational system, which provided opportunities for both men and women to engage in learning. Moreover, the research highlights the integration of moral and ethical teachings within the educational curriculum, aiming to develop well-rounded individuals who exemplify virtuous conduct. Purpose: This article examines the educational decision-making of hearing parents for their deaf children born during a period (1970–1990s) before the introduction of new-born hearing screening in New South Wales, where the study was conducted, and prior to the now near-universal adoption of cochlear implants in Australia. Design/methodology/approach: We present findings from an oral history study in which parents were invited to recall how they planned for the education of their deaf children. Findings: We propose that these oral histories shed light on how the concept, early intervention – a child development principle that became axiomatic from about the 1960s – significantly shaped the conduct of parents of deaf children, constituting both hope and burden, and intensifying a focus on early decision-making. They also illustrate ways in which parenting was shaped by two key structural shifts, one, being the increasing enrolment of deaf children in mainstream rather than separate classrooms and the other being the transformation of deafness itself by developments in hearing assistance technology. Originality/value: The paper contributes to a sociological/historical literature of "parenting for education" that almost entirely lacks deaf perspectives and a specialist literature of parental decision-making for deaf children that is almost entirely focussed on the post cochlear implant generation. The paper is distinctive in its treatment of the concept of "early intervention" as a historical phenomenon rather than a "common sense" truth, and proposes that parents of deaf children were at the leading edge of late-20th and early-21st century parenting intensification. This paper reviews the trajectory of Japanese immigrants who emigrated to Peru in the first half of the 20th century and then to the United States during World War II. Although this little-known history has yet to be told much, these people experienced three different cultures and languages at the time and overcame many problems in different countries. The trajectory of their lives gives us food for thought about people trying to move to and settle in a new environment. This paper aims to provide an overview of their transnational migration and subsequent routes of adjustment in U.S. society and to explore the educational strategies under which those who moved as children developed. In this paper, they are referred to as Japanese Latin Americans because while more than 80% of those brought to the U.S. from Latin America were Japanese or Nikkei from Peru, they also included people from other countries. In many cases, Japanese Latin Americans moved with their families, and their children experienced different school education environments. In some cases, this was due to educational policies in each country, making it difficult to adapt to a new environment, especially when the language and culture differed. These cases are not unique to Japanese Latin Americans but are similar to the challenges people face on the move. In the case of Japanese Latin Americans, however, there is a particularity in their migration route. These include not only the differences between the countries of Japan, Peru, and the United States but also the differences between the respective communities, as seen in the migration of the Nikkei community in Peru and the United States. Therefore, this paper's research task is to find out how these migrations affected the construction of the cultural identity of Nikkei Latin Americans and under what kind of educational strategies they received their education. In this paper, the concept of "educational strategy" in Shimizu and Shimizu's "Newcomers and Education" will be used. There needs to be more prior research on the education of Japanese Latin Americans after living in internment camps. However, efforts to evoke the testimonies and memories of those days have been made, especially in recent years. They will be examined using their testimonies, a qualitative survey of the target group of Japanese Latin Americans who have been published as historical research presentations, and previous studies in which their testimonies are found. In recent years, the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) has shifted to outcomes-based accreditation standards for higher education construction programs, allowing greater customization of educational strategies. Past research efforts have analyzed the demands of industry and strategies used in academia, but these studies occurred before the shift to outcomes-based accreditation. This paper presents an updated analysis of construction industry needs and academic priorities and aims to provide insight into the status of industry and academia in the context of this outcomes-based focus. Thematic analysis of five years of direct evaluations of student performance during industry internships provides insight into industry demands. Parallel analysis of construction education research publications from a corresponding time period is leveraged to understand developments within the academic research community. Results suggest that both sectors recognize the need for experiential learning and software competencies among construction graduates. However, differences in trends were observed with a greater industry focus on personal attributes and a greater academic emphasis on sustainability learning competencies. The contribution of this paper is in providing an up-to-date evaluation of industry and academic trends in order to guide subsequent developments in construction education while addressing the needs of industry.
