Surgeons face a significant challenge due to the heat generated during drilling, as excessive temperatures at the bone–tool interface can lead to irreversible damage to the regenerative soft tissue and result in thermal osteonecrosis. While previous studies have explored the use of machine learning to predict the temperature rise during bone drilling, this in vitro study introduces a comprehensive approach by combining the Response Surface Methodology (RSM) with advanced machine learning techniques. The main objective lies in the comprehensive evaluation and comparison of support vector machine (SVM) and random forest (RF) models specifically for the optimization of the bone drilling parameters to prevent thermal bone necrosis. A total of 27 experiments were conducted using a multi-level factorial method, with analysis performed via the Minitab software version 19.1. Performance metrics such as the mean squared error (MSE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), and coefficient of determination (R2) were used to assess model accuracy. The RF model emerged as the most effective, with R2 values of 94.2% for testing and 97.3% for training data, significantly outperforming other models in predicting temperature fluctuations. This study demonstrates the superior predictive capabilities of the RF model and offers a robust framework for the optimization of surgical procedures to mitigate the risk of thermal damage. With the growing availability of medical data and the enhanced performance of computers, new opportunities for data analysis in research are emerging. One of these modern approaches is machine learning (ML), an advanced form of statistics broadly defined as the application of complex algorithms. ML provides innovative methods for detecting patterns in complex datasets. This enables the identification of correlations or the prediction of specific events. These capabilities are especially valuable for multifactorial phenomena, such as those found in mental health and forensic psychiatry. ML also allows for the quantification of the quality of the emerging statistical model. The present study aims to examine various sociodemographic variables in order to detect differences in a sample of 370 offender patients and 370 non-offender patients, all with schizophrenia spectrum disorders, through discriminative model building using ML. In total, 48 variables were tested. Out of seven algorithms, gradient boosting emerged as the most suitable for the dataset. The discriminative model finally included three variables (regarding country of birth, residence status, and educational status) and yielded an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.65, meaning that the statistical discrimination of offender and non-offender patients based purely on the sociodemographic variables is rather poor. This paper proposes an advanced deep learning model that integrates the Diffusion-Transformer structure and parallel attention mechanism for the tasks of growth estimation and disease detection in jujube forests. Existing methods in forestry monitoring often fall short in meeting the practical needs of large-scale and highly complex forest areas due to limitations in data processing capabilities and feature extraction precision. In response to this challenge, this paper designs and conducts a series of benchmark tests and ablation experiments to systematically evaluate and verify the performance of the proposed model across key performance metrics such as precision, recall, accuracy, and F1-score. Experimental results demonstrate that compared to traditional machine learning models like Support Vector Machines and Random Forests, as well as common deep learning models such as AlexNet and ResNet, the model proposed in this paper achieves a precision of 95%, a recall of 92%, an accuracy of 93%, and an F1-score of 94% in the task of disease detection in jujube forests, showing similarly superior performance in growth estimation tasks as well. Furthermore, ablation experiments with different attention mechanisms and loss functions further validate the effectiveness of parallel attention and parallel loss function in enhancing the overall performance of the model. The shiitake mushroom has gained popularity in the last decade, ranking second in the world for mushrooms consumed, providing consumers with a wide variety of nutritional and healthy benefits. It is often not clear the origin of these mushrooms, so it becomes of great importance to the consumers. In this research, different machine learning algorithms were developed to determine the geographical origin of shiitake mushrooms (Lentinula edodes) consumed in Korea, based on experimental data reported in the literature (δ13C, δ15N, δ18O, δ34S, and origin). Regarding the origin of shiitake in three categories (Korean, Chinese, and mushrooms from Chinese inoculated sawdust blocks), the random forest model presents the highest accuracy value (0.940) and the highest kappa value (0.908) for the validation phase. To determine the origin of shiitake mushrooms in two categories (Korean and Chinese, including mushrooms from Chinese inoculated sawdust blocks in the latter ones), the support vector machine model is chosen as the best model due to the high accuracy (0.988) and kappa (0.975) values for the validation phase. Finally, to determine the origin in two categories (Korean and Chinese, but this time including the mushrooms from Chinese inoculated sawdust blocks in the Korean ones), the best model is the random forest due to its higher accuracy value (0.952) in the validation phase (kappa value of 0.869). The accuracy values in the testing phase for the best selected models are acceptable (between 0.839 and 0.964); therefore, the predictive capacity of the models could be acceptable for their use in real applications. This paper focuses on large-scale landslide susceptibility modelling in NW Croatia. The objective of this research was to provide new insight into stable and unstable area sampling strategies on a representative inventory of small and shallow landslides mainly occurring in soil and soft rock. Four strategies were tested for stable area sampling (random points, stable area polygon, stable polygon buffering and stable area centroid) in combination with four strategies for unstable area sampling (landslide polygon, smoothing digital terrain model derived landslide conditioning factors, polygon buffering and landslide centroid), resulting in eight sampling scenarios. Using Logistic Regression, Neural Network, Random Forest and Support Vector Machine algorithm, 32 models were derived and analysed. The main conclusions reveal that polygon sampling of unstable areas is an imperative in large-scale modelling, as well as that subjective and/or biased stable area sampling leads to misleading models. Moreover, Random Forest and Neural Network proved to be more favourable methods (0.804 and 0.805 AUC, respectively), but also showed extreme sensitivity to the tested sampling strategies. In the comprehensive comparison, the advantages and disadvantages of 32 derived models were analysed through quantitative and qualitative parameters to highlight their application to large-scale landslide zonation. The results yielded by this research are beneficial to the susceptibility modelling step in large-scale landslide susceptibility assessments as they enable the derivation of more reliable zonation maps applicable to spatial and urban planning systems. Carbon dioxide corrosion is a pervasive issue in pipelines and the petroleum industry, posing substantial risks to equipment safety and longevity. Accurate prediction of corrosion rates and severity is essential for effective material selection and equipment maintenance. This paper begins by addressing the limitations of traditional corrosion prediction methods and explores the application of machine learning algorithms in C O 2 corrosion prediction. Conventional models often fail to capture the complex interactions among multiple factors, resulting in suboptimal prediction accuracy, limited adaptability, and poor generalization. To overcome these limitations, this study systematically organized and analyzed the data, performed a correlation analysis of the data features, and examined the factors influencing corrosion. Subsequently, prediction models were developed using six algorithms: Random Forest (RF), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Gradient Boosting Decision Tree (GBDT), Support Vector Machine (SVM), XGBoost, and LightGBM. The results revealed that SVM exhibited the lowest performance on both training and test sets, while RF achieved the best results with R2 values of 0.92 for the training set and 0.88 for the test set. In the classification of corrosion severity, RF, LightGBM, SVM, and KNN were utilized, with RF demonstrating superior performance, achieving an accuracy of 99% and an F1-score of 0.99. This study highlights that machine learning algorithms, particularly Random Forest, offer substantial potential for predicting and classifying C O 2 corrosion. Color characteristics are a crucial indicator of green tea quality, particularly in needle-shaped green tea, and are predominantly evaluated through subjective sensory analysis. Thus, the necessity arises for an objective, precise, and efficient assessment methodology. In this study, 885 images from 157 samples, obtained through computer vision technology, were used to predict sensory evaluation results based on the color features of the images. Three machine learning methods, Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Decision Tree-based AdaBoost (DT-AdaBoost), were carried out to construct the color quality evaluation model. Notably, the DT-Adaboost model shows significant potential for application in evaluating tea quality, with a correct discrimination rate (CDR) of 98.50% and a relative percent deviation (RPD) of 14.827 in the 266 samples used to verify the accuracy of the model. This result indicates that the integration of computer vision with machine learning models presents an effective approach for assessing the color quality of needle-shaped green tea. This study compares the calculation of snow water equivalent (SWE) using machine learning algorithms with the conventional degree-day method. The study uses machine learning techniques such as LASSO, Random Forest, Support Vector Machines, and CatBoost. It proposes an innovative use of feature engineering (FE) to improve the accuracy and robustness of SWE predictions by machine learning intended for interpolation, extrapolation, or imputation of missing data. The performance of machine learning approaches is evaluated against the traditional degree-day method for predicting SWE. The study emphasizes and demonstrates gains when modeling is enhanced by transforming basic, raw data through feature engineering. The results, verified in a case study from the mountainous region of Slovakia, suggest that machine learning, particularly CatBoost with feature engineering, shows better results in SWE estimation in comparison with the degree-day method, although the authors present a refined application of the degree-day method by utilizing genetic algorithms. Nevertheless, the study finds that the degree-day method achieved accuracy with a Nash–Sutcliffe coefficient of efficiency NSE = 0.59, while the CatBoost technique enhanced with the proposed FE achieved an accuracy NSE = 0.86. Climate change is making water management increasingly difficult due to rising temperatures and unpredictable rainfall patterns, impacting crop water availability and irrigation needs. This study investigated the ability of machine learning and satellite remote sensing to monitor water status and physiology. The research focused on predicting different eco-physiological parameters in an irrigated peach orchard under Mediterranean conditions, utilizing multispectral reflectance data and machine learning algorithms (extreme gradient boosting, random forest, support vector regressor); ground data were acquired from 2021 to 2023 in the south of Italy. The random forest model outperformed in predicting net assimilation (R2 = 0.61), while the support vector machine performed best in predicting electron transport rate (R2 = 0.57), Fv/Fm ratio (R2 = 0.66) and stomatal conductance (R2 = 0.56). Random forest also proved to be the most effective in predicting stem water potential (R2 = 0.62). These findings highlighted the potential of integrating machine learning techniques with high-resolution satellite imagery to assist farmers in monitoring crop health and optimizing irrigation practices, thereby addressing the challenges determined by climate change. Cyber-security challenges are growing globally and are specifically targeting critical infrastructure. Conventional countermeasure practices are insufficient to provide proactive threat hunting. In this study, random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), multi-layer perceptron (MLP), AdaBoost, and hybrid models were applied for proactive threat hunting. By automating detection, the hybrid machine learning-based method improves threat hunting and frees up time to concentrate on high-risk warnings. These models are implemented on approach devices, access, and principal servers. The efficacy of several models, including hybrid approaches, is assessed. The findings of these studies are that the AdaBoost model provides the highest efficiency, with a 0.98 ROC area and 95.7% accuracy, detecting 146 threats with 29 false positives. Similarly, the random forest model achieved a 0.98 area under the ROC curve and a 95% overall accuracy, accurately identifying 132 threats and reducing false positives to 31. The hybrid model exhibited promise with a 0.89 ROC area and 94.9% accuracy, though it requires further refinement to lower its false positive rate. This research emphasizes the role of machine learning in improving cyber-security, particularly for critical infrastructure. Simple Summary: Our study aims to demonstrate and quantify the usefulness of three different AI models for lymph node involvement prediction in prostate cancer patients comparing the performance with current routinely used clinical nomograms. Knowing the lymph node involvement with accuracy and confidence can influence the type of surgical and therapeutic choice. PURPOSE: We aim to compare the performance of three different radiomics models (logistic regression (LR), random forest (RF), and support vector machine (SVM)) and clinical nomograms (Briganti, MSKCC, Yale, and Roach) for predicting lymph node involvement (LNI) in prostate cancer (PCa) patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The retrospective study includes 95 patients who underwent mp-MRI and radical prostatectomy for PCa with pelvic lymphadenectomy. Imaging data (intensity in T2, DWI, ADC, and PIRADS), clinical data (age and pre-MRI PSA), histological data (Gleason score, TNM staging, histological type, capsule invasion, seminal vesicle invasion, and neurovascular bundle involvement), and clinical nomograms (Yale, Roach, MSKCC, and Briganti) were collected for each patient. Manual segmentation of the index lesions was performed for each patient using an open-source program (3D SLICER). Radiomic features were extracted for each segmentation using the Pyradiomics library for each sequence (T2, DWI, and ADC). The features were then selected and used to train and test three different radiomics models (LR, RF, and SVM) independently using ChatGPT software (v 4o). The coefficient value of each feature was calculated (significant value for coefficient ≥ ±0.5). The predictive performance of the radiomics models and clinical nomograms was assessed using accuracy and area under the curve (AUC) (significant value for p ≤ 0.05). Thus, the diagnostic accuracy between the radiomics and clinical models were compared. RESULTS: This study identified 343 features per patient (330 radiomics features and 13 clinical features). The most significant features were T2_nodulofirstordervariance and T2_nodulofirstorderkurtosis. The highest predictive performance was achieved by the RF model with DWI (accuracy 86%, AUC 0.89) and ADC (accuracy 89%, AUC 0.67). Clinical nomograms demonstrated satisfactory but lower predictive performance compared to the RF model in the DWI sequences. CONCLUSIONS: Among the prediction models developed using integrated data (radiomics and semantics), RF shows slightly higher diagnostic accuracy in terms of AUC compared to clinical nomograms in PCa lymph node involvement prediction. CO2 emissions prediction plays a key role in atmospheric environment management and regional sustainable development. Taking the Four Provinces of Mountains and Rivers (Henan, Hebei, Shandong, and Shanxi) in China as an example, the Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average Model (ARIMA) and random forest importance analysis were used to calculate the future trend of the CO2 emission–influencing factors and obtain the main influencing factors. Based on the above, BP neural network (BPNN), support vector machine (SVR), and random forest (RF) models were used to predict the future apparent CO2 emissions of the four provinces. The results show that, in general, population, coal consumption, and per capita GDP are the main factors influencing CO2 emissions. The RF model has the best prediction performance; for instance, RMSE (81.86), R2 (0.905), and MAE (64.69). The prediction results show that the total apparent CO2 emissions of the Four Provinces of Mountains and Rivers will peak in 2028 (with a peak of about 4500 Mt). The apparent CO2 emissions of Henan, Hebei, and Shandong Province peaked in 2011 (with a peak of about 654 Mt), 2013 (with a peak of about 657 Mt), and 2020 (with a peak of about 1273 Mt), respectively. Shanxi is forecast to reach its peak (with a peak of about 2486 Mt) in 2029. The apparent CO2 emissions of all provinces showed an obvious downward trend after reaching their peak. Several machine learning (ML) techniques have demonstrated efficacy in precisely forecasting HIV risk and identifying the most eligible individuals for HIV testing in various countries. Nevertheless, there is a data gap on the utility of ML algorithms in strengthening HIV testing worldwide. This systematic review aimed to evaluate how effectively ML algorithms can enhance the efficiency and accuracy of HIV testing interventions and to identify key outcomes, successes, gaps, opportunities, and limitations in their implementation. This review was guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines. A comprehensive literature search was conducted via PubMed, Google Scholar, Web of Science, Science Direct, Scopus, and Gale OneFile databases. Out of the 845 identified articles, 51 studies were eligible. More than 75% of the articles included in this review were conducted in the Americas and various parts of Sub-Saharan Africa, and a few were from Europe, Asia, and Australia. The most common algorithms applied were logistic regression, deep learning, support vector machine, random forest, extreme gradient booster, decision tree, and the least absolute shrinkage selection operator model. The findings demonstrate that ML techniques exhibit higher accuracy in predicting HIV risk/testing compared to traditional approaches. Machine learning models enhance early prediction of HIV transmission, facilitate viable testing strategies to improve the efficiency of testing services, and optimize resource allocation, ultimately leading to improved HIV testing. This review points to the positive impact of ML in enhancing early prediction of HIV spread, optimizing HIV testing approaches, improving efficiency, and eventually enhancing the accuracy of HIV diagnosis. Hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, which include preeclampsia, eclampsia, and chronic hypertension, complicate approximately 10% of all pregnancies in the world, constituting one of the most serious causes of mortality and morbidity in gestation. To help predict the occurrence of hypertensive disorders, a study based on algorithms that help model this health problem using mathematical tools is proposed. This study proposes a fuzzy c-means (FCM) model based on the Takagi–Sugeno (T-S) type of fuzzy rule to predict hypertensive disorders in pregnancy. To test different modeling methodologies, cross-validation comparisons were made between random forest, decision tree, support vector machine, and T-S and FCM methods, which achieved 80.00%, 66.25%, 70.00%, and 90.00%, respectively. The evaluation consisted of calculating the true positive rate (TPR) over the true negative rate (TNR), with equal error rate (EER) curves achieving a percentage of 20%. The learning dataset consisted of a total of 371 pregnant women, of which 13.2% were diagnosed with a condition related to gestational hypertension. The dataset for this study was obtained from the Secretaría de Salud del Estado de Hidalgo (SSEH), México. A random sub-sampling technique was used to adjust the class distribution of the data set, and to eliminate the problem of unbalanced classes. The models were trained using a total of 98 samples. A wearable textile bra-tenna system based on dual-polarization sensors for breast cancer (BC) detection is presented in this paper. The core concept behind our work is to investigate which type of polarization is most effective for BC detection, using the combination of orthogonal polarization signals with machine learning (ML) techniques to enhance detection accuracy. The bra-tenna sensors have a bandwidth ranging from 2–12 GHz. To complement the proposed system, detection based on machine learning algorithms (MLAs) is developed and tested to enhance its functionality. Using scattered signals at different polarizations, the bra-tenna system uses MLAs to predict BC in its early stages. Classification techniques are highly effective for data classification, especially in the biomedical field. Two scenarios are considered: Scenario 1, where the system detects a tumor or non-tumor, and Scenario 2, where the system detects three classes of one, two, and non-tumors. This confirms that MLAs can detect tumors as small as 10 mm. ML techniques, including eight algorithms such as the Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), Gradient Boosting Methods (GBMs), Decision Tree (DT) classifier, Ada Boost (AD), CatBoost, Extreme Gradient Boosting (XG Boost), and Logistic Regression (LR), are applied to this balanced dataset. For optimal analysis of the BC, a performance evaluation is performed. Notably, SVM achieves outstanding performance in both scenarios, with metrics such as its F1 score, recall, accuracy, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, area under the ROC curve (AUC), and precision all exceeding 90%, helping doctors to effectively investigate BC. As a severe inflammatory response syndrome, sepsis presents complex challenges in predicting patient outcomes due to its unclear pathogenesis and the unstable discharge status of affected individuals. In this study, we develop a machine learning-based method for predicting the discharge status of sepsis patients, aiming to improve treatment decisions. To enhance the robustness of our analysis against outliers, we incorporate robust statistical methods, specifically the minimum covariance determinant technique. We utilize the random forest imputation method to effectively manage and impute missing data. For feature selection, we employ Lasso penalized logistic regression, which efficiently identifies significant predictors and reduces model complexity, setting the stage for the application of more complex predictive methods. Our predictive analysis incorporates multiple machine learning methods, including random forest, support vector machine, and XGBoost. We compare the prediction performance of these methods with Lasso penalized logistic regression to identify the most effective approach. Each method's performance is rigorously evaluated through ten iterations of 10-fold cross-validation to ensure robust and reliable results. High-resolution remote sensing platforms are crucial to map land use/cover (LULC) types. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology has been widely used in the northern hemisphere, addressing the challenges facing low- to medium-resolution satellite platforms. This study establishes the scalability of Sentinel-2 LULC classification with ground-linked UAV orthoimages to large African ecosystems, particularly the Burunge Wildlife Management Area in Tanzania. It involved UAV flights in 19 ground-surveyed plots followed by upscaling orthoimages to a 10 m × 10 m resolution to guide Sentinel-2 LULC classification. The results were compared with unguided Sentinel-2 using the best classifier (random forest, RFC) compared to support vector machines (SVMs) and maximum likelihood classification (MLC). The guided classification approach, with an overall accuracy (OA) of 94% and a kappa coefficient (k) of 0.92, outperformed the unguided classification approach (OA = 90%; k = 0.87). It registered grasslands (55.2%) as a major vegetated class, followed by woodlands (7.6%) and shrublands (4.7%). The unguided approach registered grasslands (43.3%), followed by shrublands (27.4%) and woodlands (1.7%). Powerful ground-linked UAV-based training samples and RFC improved the performance. The area size, heterogeneity, pre-UAV flight ground data, and UAV-based woody plant encroachment detection contribute to the study's novelty. In the process of lithology discrimination from a conventional well logging dataset, the imbalance in sample distribution restricts the accuracy of log identification, especially in the fine-scale reservoir intervals. Enhanced sampling balances the distribution of well logging samples of multiple lithologies, which is of great significance to precise fine-scale reservoir characterization. This study employed data over-sampling and under-sampling algorithms represented by the synthetic minority over-sampling technique (SMOTE), adaptive synthetic sampling (ADASYN), and edited nearest neighbors (ENN) to process well logging dataset. To achieve automatic and precise lithology discrimination on enhanced sampled well logging dataset, support vector machine (SVM), random forest (RF), and gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT) models were trained using cross-validation and grid search methods. Aimed to objectively evaluate the performance of different models on different sampling results from multiple perspectives, the lithology discrimination results were evaluated and compared based on the Jaccard index and F1 score. By comparing the predictions of eighteen lithology discrimination workflows, a new discrimination process containing ADASYN, ENN, and RF has the most precise lithology discrimination result. This process improves the discrimination accuracy of fine-scale reservoir interval lithology, has great generalization ability, and is feasible in a variety of different geological environments. The rapid development of the Internet has facilitated expression, sharing, and interaction on social networks, but some speech may contain harmful discrimination. Therefore, it is crucial to classify such speech. In this paper, we collected discriminatory data from Sina Weibo and propose the improved Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique (SMOTE) algorithm based on Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) to improve data quality and balance. And we propose a new integration method integrating Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Random Forest (RF). The experimental results demonstrate that the integrated model exhibits enhanced precision, recall, and F1 score by 6.0%, 5.4%, and 5.7%, respectively, in comparison with SVM alone. Moreover, it exhibits the best performance in comparison with other machine learning methods. Risk management in electronic component selection is crucial for ensuring inherent system quality dependability in aerospace equipment research and development (R&D). Metabolic perturbation has been associated with depression. An untargeted metabolomics approach using liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry was employed to detect and measure the rat serum metabolic changes following chronic social isolation (CSIS), an animal model of depression, and effective antidepressant fluoxetine (Flx) treatment. Univariate and multivariate statistics were used for metabolic data analysis and differentially expressed metabolites (DEMs) determination. Potential markers and predictive metabolites of CSIS-induced depressive-like behavior and Flx efficacy in CSIS were evaluated by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and machine learning (ML) algorithms, such as support vector machine with linear kernel (SVM–LK) and random forest (RF). Upregulated choline following CSIS may represent a potential marker of depressive-like behavior. Succinate, stachydrine, guanidinoacetate, kynurenic acid, and 7-methylguanine were revealed as potential markers of effective Flx treatment in CSIS rats. RF yielded better accuracy than SVM–LK (98.50% vs. 85.70%, respectively) in predicting Flx efficacy in CSIS vs. CSIS, however, it performed almost identically in classifying CSIS vs. control (75.83% and 75%, respectively). Detailed information on forest tree species is crucial to inform management and policy and support environmental and ecological research. Sentinel-2 imagery is useful for obtaining spatially explicit and frequent information on forest tree species due to its suitable spatial, spectral, and temporal resolutions. However, classification workflows often do not generalise well to time periods that are not seen by the model during the calibration phase. This study investigates the temporal transferability of dominant tree species classification. To this end, the Random Forest, Support Vector Machine, and Multilayer Perceptron algorithms were used to classify five tree species in Flanders (Belgium) with regularly spaced Sentinel-2 time series from 2018 to 2022. Cross-year single-year input scenarios were compared with same-year single-year input scenarios to quantify the temporal transferability of the five evaluated years. This resulted in a decrease in overall accuracy between 2.30 and 14.92 percentage points depending on the algorithm and evaluated year. Moreover, our results indicate that the cross-year classification performance could be improved by using multi-year training data, reducing the drop in overall accuracy. In some cases, gains in overall accuracy were even observed. This study highlights the importance of including interannual spectral variability during the training stage of tree species classification models to improve their ability to generalise in time. The distribution of forest-dominant tree species is crucial for ecosystem assessment. Remote sensing monitoring requires annual ground sample data, but consistent field surveys are challenging. This study addresses this by combining sample migration learning and machine learning for multi-year tree species classification in the Three Gorges Reservoir area in China. Using the continuous change detection and classification (CCDC) algorithm, sample data from 2023 were successfully migrated to 2018–2022, achieving high migration accuracy ( R 2 = 0.8303, RMSE = 4.64). Based on migrated samples, random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), and extreme gradient boosting (XGB) algorithms classified forest tree species with overall accuracies above 70% and Kappa coefficients above 0.6. Cardiovascular and neurological diseases are a major cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Such diseases require careful monitoring to effectively manage their progression. Artificial intelligence (AI) offers valuable tools for this purpose through its ability to analyse data and identify predictive patterns. This review evaluated the application of AI in cardiac and neurological diseases for their clinical impact on the general population. We reviewed studies on the application of AI in the neurological and cardiological fields. Our search was performed on the PubMed, Web of Science, Embase and Cochrane library databases. Of the initial 5862 studies, 23 studies met the inclusion criteria. The studies showed that the most commonly used algorithms in these clinical fields are Random Forest and Artificial Neural Network, followed by logistic regression and Support-Vector Machines. In addition, an ECG-AI algorithm based on convolutional neural networks has been developed and has been widely used in several studies for the detection of atrial fibrillation with good accuracy. A timely and accurately predicted grain yield can ensure regional and global food security. The scientific community is gradually advancing the prediction of regional-scale maize yield. However, the combination of various datasets while predicting the regional-scale maize yield using simple and accurate methods is still relatively rare. Here, we have used multi-source datasets (climate dataset, satellite dataset, and soil dataset), lasso algorithm, and machine learning methods (random forest, support vector, extreme gradient boosting, BP neural network, long short-term memory network, and K-nearest neighbor regression) to predict China's county-level maize yield. The use of multi-sourced datasets advanced the predicting accuracy of maize yield significantly compared to the single-sourced dataset. We found that the machine learning methods were superior to the lasso algorithm, while random forest, extreme gradient boosting, and support vector machine represented the most preferable methods for maize yield prediction in China (R2 ≥ 0.75, RMSE = 824–875 kg/ha, MAE = 626–651 kg/ha). The climate dataset contributed more to the prediction of maize yield, while the satellite dataset contributed to tracking the maize growth process. However, the methods' accuracies and the dominant variables affecting maize growth varied with agricultural regions across different geographic locations. Our research serves as an important effort to examine the feasibility of multi-source datasets and machine learning techniques for regional-scale maize yield prediction. In a study aimed at developing a rapid and nondestructive method for testing the quality of strawberries, spectral data from four strawberry varieties at different ripening stages were collected using a geophysical spectrometer, primarily focusing on the 350–1800 nm band. The spectra were preprocessed using Savitzky–Golay (SG) filtering, and characteristic bands were extracted using Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC) analysis. Models for predicting strawberry quality were built using random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), partial least squares (PLS), and Gaussian regression (GPR). The results indicated that the SVM model exhibited relatively high accuracy in predicting anthocyanin, hardness, and soluble solids content in strawberries. For the test set, the SVM model achieved R2 and RMSE values of 0.81, 0.87, and 0.89, and 0.04 mg/g, 0.33 kg/cm2, and 0.72%, respectively. Additionally, the PLS model demonstrated relatively high accuracy in predicting the titratable acid content of strawberries, achieving R2 and RMSE values of 0.85 and 0.03%, respectively, for the test set. Ice formation on aircraft surfaces poses significant safety risks, and current detection systems often struggle to provide accurate, real-time predictions. This paper presents the development and comprehensive evaluation of a smart ice control system using a suite of machine learning models. The system utilizes various sensors to detect temperature anomalies and signal potential ice formation. We trained and tested supervised learning models (Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machine, and Random Forest), unsupervised learning models (K-Means Clustering), and neural networks (Multilayer Perceptron) to predict and identify ice formation patterns. The experimental results demonstrate that our smart system, driven by machine learning, accurately predicts ice formation in real time, optimizes deicing processes, and enhances safety while reducing power consumption. Primary Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP) is a rare autoimmune disease characterised by the immune-mediated destruction of peripheral blood platelets in patients leading to low platelet counts and bleeding. The diagnosis and effective management of ITP are challenging because there is no established test to confirm the disease and no biomarker with which one can predict the response to treatment and outcome. In this work, we conduct a feasibility study to check if machine learning can be applied effectively for the diagnosis of ITP using routine blood tests and demographic data in a non-acute outpatient setting. Various ML models, including Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machine, k-Nearest Neighbor, Decision Tree and Random Forest, were applied to data from the UK Adult ITP Registry and a general haematology clinic. Two different approaches were investigated: a demographic-unaware and a demographic-aware one. We conduct extensive experiments to evaluate the predictive performance of these models and approaches, as well as their bias. The results revealed that Decision Tree and Random Forest models were both superior and fair, achieving nearly perfect predictive and fairness scores, with platelet count identified as the most significant variable. Models not provided with demographic information performed better in terms of predictive accuracy but showed lower fairness scores, illustrating a trade-off between predictive performance and fairness. Accurate and rapid estimation of soil organic matter (SOM) content is of great significance for advancing precision agriculture. Compared with traditional chemical methods, the hyperspectral estimation is superior in rapidly estimating SOM content. Soil grain size affects soil spectral reflectance, thereby affecting the accuracy of hyperspectral estimation. However, the appropriate soil grain size for the hyperspectral analysis is nearly unknown. This study propose a best hyperspectral estimation method for determining SOM content of farmland soil in the Ibinur Lake Irrigation Area (ILIA) of the northwest arid zones of China. The original spectral reflectance of the 20-mesh (0.85 mm) and 60-mesh (0.25 mm) sieved soil were obtained, and the feature wavebands were selected using five types of spectral transformations. Then, hyperspectral estimation models were constructed based on the partial least squares regression (PLSR), support vector machine (SVM), random forest (RF), and extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) models. Results show that the SOM content had relatively higher correlation coefficient with spectral reflectance of the 0.85 mm sieved soil than that of the 0.25 mm sieved soil. The transformation of original spectral reflectance of soil effectively enhanced the spectral characteristics related to SOM content. Soil grain size obviously affected spectral reflectance and the accuracy of hyperspectral estimation models. The overall stability and estimation accuracy of RF model was significantly higher compared with the PLSR, SVM, and XGBoost. Finally, the RF model combined with the root mean first-order differentiation (RMSFD) of spectral reflectance of the 0.85 mm sieved soil (R2 = 0.82, RMSE = 2.37, RPD = 2.27) was identified as the best method for estimating SOM content of farmland soil in the ILIA. Morse code recognition plays a very important role in the application of human–machine interaction. In this paper, based on the carbon nanotube (CNT) and polyurethane sponge (PUS) composite material, a flexible tactile CNT/PUS sensor with great piezoresistive characteristic is developed for detecting Morse code precisely. Thirty-six types of Morse code, including 26 letters (A–Z) and 10 numbers (0–9), are applied to the sensor. Each Morse code was repeated 60 times, and 2160 (36 × 60) groups of voltage time-sequential signals were collected to construct the dataset. Then, smoothing and normalization methods are used to preprocess and optimize the raw data. Based on that, the long short-term memory (LSTM) model with excellent feature extraction and self-adaptive ability is constructed to precisely recognize different types of Morse code detected by the sensor. The recognition accuracies of the 10-number Morse code, the 26-letter Morse code, and the whole 36-type Morse code are 99.17%, 95.37%, and 93.98%, respectively. Meanwhile, the Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP), and Random Forest (RF) models are built to distinguish the 36-type Morse code (letters of A–Z and numbers of 0–9) based on the same dataset and achieve the accuracies of 91.37%, 88.88%, 87.04%, and 90.97%, respectively, which are all lower than the accuracy of 93.98% based on the LSTM model. All the experimental results show that the CNT/PUS sensor can detect the Morse code's tactile feature precisely, and the LSTM model has a very efficient property in recognizing Morse code detected by the CNT/PUS sensor. One expanding area of bioinformatics is medical diagnosis through the categorization of biomedical characteristics. Automatic medical strategies to boost the diagnostic through machine learning (ML) methods are challenging. They require a formal examination of their performance to identify the best conditions that enhance the ML method. This work proposes variants of the Voting and Stacking (VC and SC) ensemble strategies based on diverse auto-tuning supervised machine learning techniques to increase the efficacy of traditional baseline classifiers for the automatic diagnosis of vertebral column orthopedic illnesses. The ensemble strategies are created by first combining a complete set of auto-tuned baseline classifiers based on different processes, such as geometric, probabilistic, logic, and optimization. Next, the three most promising classifiers are selected among k-Nearest Neighbors (kNN), Naïve Bayes (NB), Logistic Regression (LR), Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA), Quadratic Discriminant Analysis (QDA), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), and Decision Tree (DT). The grid-search K-Fold cross-validation strategy is applied to auto-tune the baseline classifier hyperparameters. The performances of the proposed ensemble strategies are independently compared with the auto-tuned baseline classifiers. A concise analysis evaluates accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and ROC-ACU metrics. The analysis also examines the misclassified disease elements to find the most and least reliable classifiers for this specific medical problem. The results show that the VC ensemble strategy provides an improvement comparable to that of the best baseline classifier (the kNN). Meanwhile, when all baseline classifiers are included in the SC ensemble, this strategy surpasses 95% in all the evaluated metrics, standing out as the most suitable option for classifying vertebral column diseases. The spectrophotometer method is costly, time-consuming, laborious, and destructive to the plant. Samples will be lost during the transportation process, and the method can only obtain sample point data. This poses a challenge to the estimation of chlorophyll content at the regional level. In this study, in order to improve the estimation accuracy, a new method of collaborative inversion of chlorophyll using Landsat 8 and Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI) is proposed. Specifically, the chlorophyll content data set is combined with the preprocessed two remote-sensing (RS) factors to construct three regression models using a support vector machine (SVM), BP neural network (BP) and random forest (RF), and the better model is selected for inversion. In addition, the ordinary Kriging (OK) method is used to interpolate the GEDI point attribute data into the surface attribute data for modeling. The results showed the following: (1) The chlorophyll model of a single plant was y = 0.1373x1.7654. (2) The optimal semi-variance function models of pai, pgap_theta and pgap_theta_a3 are exponential models. (3) The top three correlations between the two RS data and the chlorophyll content were B2_3_SM, B2_3_HO, B2_5_EN and pai, pgap_theta, pgap_theta_a3. (4) The combination of the Landsat 8 imagery and GEDI resulted in the highest modeling accuracy, and RF had the best performance, with R2, RMSE and P values of 0.94, 0.18 g/m2 and 83.32%, respectively. This study shows that it is reliable to use Landsat 8 images and GEDI to retrieve the chlorophyll content of Dendrocalamus giganteus (D. giganteus), revealing the potential of multi-source RS data in the inversion of forest ecological parameters. The operational complexities of the elastic tooth drum pepper harvester (ETDPH), characterized by variable drum loads that are challenging to recognize due to varying pepper densities, significantly impact pepper loss rates and mechanical damage. This study proposes a novel method integrating complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise (CEEMDAN), kernel principal component analysis (KPCA), and a support vector machine (SVM) to enhance drum load recognition. The method consists of three principal steps: the initial experiments with ETDPHs to identify the critical factors affecting drum load and to formulate classification criteria; the development of a CEEMDAN-KPCA-SVM model for ETDPH drum load recognition, where drum spindle torque signals are processed by CEEMDAN for decomposition and reconstruction, followed by feature extraction and dimensionality reduction via KPCA to refine the model's accuracy and training efficiency; and evaluation of the model's performance on real datasets, highlighting the improvements brought by CEEMDAN and KPCA, as well as comparative analysis with other machine learning models. The results describe four load conditions—no load (mass of pepper intake (MOPI) = 0 kg/s), low load (0 < MOPI ≤ 0.658 kg/s), normal load (0.658 < MOPI ≤ 1.725 kg/s), and high load (MOPI > 1.725 kg/s)—with the CEEMDAN-KPCA-SVM model achieving 100% accuracy on both training and test sets, outperforming the standalone SVM by 6% and 12.5%, respectively. Additionally, it reduced the training time to 2.88 s, a 10.9% decrease, and reduced the prediction time to 0.0001 s, a 63.6% decrease. Comparative evaluations confirmed the superiority of the CEEMDAN-KPCA-SVM model over random forest (RF) and gradient boosting machine (GBM) in classification tasks. The synergistic application of CEEMDAN and KPCA significantly improved the accuracy and operational efficiency of the SVM model, providing valuable insights for load recognition and adaptive control of ETDPH drum parameters. Torreya, with its dual roles in both food and medicine, has faced multiple challenges in its cultivation in Zhuji city due to frequent global climate disasters in recent years. Therefore, conducting a study on suitable zoning for Torreya habitats based on climatic, topographic, and soil factors is highly important. In this study, we utilized the latitude and longitude coordinates of Torreya distribution points and ecological factor raster data. We thoroughly analyzed the ecological environmental characteristics of the climate, topography, and soil at Torreya distribution points via both physical modeling and machine learning methods. Zhuji city was classified into suitable, moderately suitable, and unsuitable zones to determine regions conducive to Torreya growth. The results indicate that suitable zones for Torreya cultivation in Zhuji city are distributed mainly in mountainous and hilly areas, while unsuitable zones are found predominantly in central basins and northern river plain networks. Moderately suitable zones are located in transitional areas between suitable and unsuitable zones. Compared to climatic factors, soil and topographic factors more significantly restrict Torreya cultivation. Machine learning algorithms can also achieve suitability zoning with a more concise and efficient classification process. Influenza is a respiratory disease that causes annual epidemics during cold seasons. These epidemics increase pressure on healthcare systems, sometimes provoking their collapse. For this reason, a tool is needed to predict when an influenza epidemic will occur so that the healthcare system has time to prepare for it. This study therefore aims to develop a statistical model capable of predicting the onset of influenza epidemics in Catalonia, Spain. Influenza seasons from 2011 to 2017 were used for model training, and those from 2017 to 2018 were used for validation. Logistic regression, Support Vector Machine, and Random Forest models were used to predict the onset of the influenza epidemic. The logistic regression model was able to predict the start of influenza epidemics at least one week in advance, based on clinical diagnosis rates of various respiratory diseases and meteorological variables. This model achieved the best punctual estimates for two of three performance metrics. The most important variables in the model were the principal components of bronchiolitis rates and mean temperature. The onset of influenza epidemics can be predicted from clinical diagnosis rates of various respiratory diseases and meteorological variables. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality among nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) patients who undergo liver transplants. In the present study, machine learning algorithms were used to identify important risk factors for cardiovascular death and to develop a prediction model. The Standard Transplant Analysis and Research data were gathered from the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network. After cleaning and preprocessing, the dataset comprised 10,871 patients and 92 features. Recursive feature elimination (RFE) and select from model (SFM) were applied to select relevant features from the dataset and avoid overfitting. Multiple machine learning algorithms, including logistic regression, random forest, decision tree, and XGBoost, were used with RFE and SFM. Additionally, prediction models were developed using a support vector machine, Gaussian naïve Bayes, K-nearest neighbors, random forest, and XGBoost algorithms. Finally, SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) were used to increase interpretability. The findings showed that the best feature selection method was RFE with a random forest estimator, and the most critical features were recipient and donor blood type, body mass index, recipient and donor state of residence, serum creatinine, and year of transplantation. Furthermore, among all the outcomes, the XGBoost model had the highest performance, with an accuracy value of 0.6909 and an area under the curve value of 0.86. The findings also revealed a predictive relationship between features and cardiovascular death after liver transplant among NASH patients. Coordinated cyber-physical attacks (CCPAs) are dangerously stealthy and have considerable destructive effects against power grids. The problem of stealthy CCPA (SCCPA) localization, specifically identifying disconnected lines in attack, is a nonlinear multi-classification problem. To the best of our knowledge, only one paper has studied the problem; nevertheless, the total number of classifications is not appropriate. In the paper, we propose several methods to solve the problem of SCCPA localization. Firstly, considering the practical constraints and abiding by one of our previous studies, we elaborately determine the total number of classifications and design an approach for generating training and testing datasets. Secondly, we develop two algorithms to solve multiple classifications via the support vector machine (SVM) and random forest (RF), respectively. Similarly, we also present a one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1D-CNN) architecture. Finally, extensive simulations are carried out for IEEE 14-bus, 30-bus, and 118-bus power system, respectively, and we verify the effectiveness of our approaches in solving the problem of SCCPA localization. As one of the main external factors affecting the fire extinguishing accuracy of sprinkler systems, it is necessary to analyze and study random wind. However, in practical applications, there is little research on the impact of random wind on sprinkler fire extinguishing points. To address this issue, a new random wind acquisition system was constructed in this paper, and a method for predicting jet trajectory falling points in Random Forest (RF) under the influence of random wind was proposed, and compared with the commonly used prediction model Support Vector Machine (SVM). The method in this article reduces the error in the x direction of the 50 m prediction result from 2.11 m to 1.53 m, the error in the y direction from 0.64 m to 0.6 m, and the total mean absolute error (MAE) from 31.3 to 23.5. Simultaneously, predict the falling points of jet trajectory at different distances under the influence of random wind, to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method in practical applications. The experimental results show that the system and method proposed in this article can effectively improve the influence of random wind on the falling points of a jet trajectory. Accurately estimating forest aboveground biomass (AGB) is imperative for comprehending carbon cycling, calculating carbon budgets, and formulating sustainable forest management plans. Currently, random forest (RF) and other machine learning models are widely used to estimate forest AGB, as they can effectively handle nonlinear relationships. However, by constructing a global model using all the samples collected from a study area, these models fail to account for the spatial heterogeneity in the AGB and cannot correct the prediction biases, thereby constraining the estimation accuracy. To overcome these limitations, we proposed a novel approach termed geographical random forest and empirical Bayesian kriging (GRFEBK). This hybrid model combines the localized modeling capability of geographical random forest (GRF) with the bias correction strength of empirical Bayesian kriging (EBK). GRF adapts RF to account for the spatial heterogeneity of the AGB, while EBK utilizes the spatial autocorrelation of residuals to correct the prediction deviations. This study was conducted in Hainan Island, utilizing spectral bands, vegetation indices, tasseled cap components derived from Landsat-8 imagery, backscattering coefficients from ALOS-2 synthetic aperture radar, topographic features, and the forest canopy height as the explanatory variables. A total of 195 forest aboveground biomass (AGB) samples were collected for modeling and assessing the predictive accuracy. The results demonstrate that, among the tested models, including GRFEBK, RF, support vector machine (SVM), k-nearest neighbor (KNN), geographically weighted regression (GWR), GRF, and EBK, GRFEBK attains the highest R 2 (0.78) and the lowest RMSE (36.04 Mg/ha) and RRMSE (22.87%), significantly outperforming the conventional models and using GRF or EBK alone. These results demonstrate that by accounting for local non-stationarity in AGB and correcting prediction biases, GRFEBK achieves significantly higher accuracy than conventional RF and other models. While the results are promising, the computational cost of GRFEBK and its performance under varying geographical conditions warrant further investigation at larger scales to assess its broader applicability. Background: Drug safety relies on advanced methods for timely and accurate prediction of side effects. To tackle this requirement, this scoping review examines machine-learning approaches for predicting drug-related side effects with a particular focus on chemical, biological, and phenotypical features. Methods: This was a scoping review in which a comprehensive search was conducted in various databases from 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2023. Results: The results showed the widespread use of Random Forest, k-nearest neighbor, and support vector machine algorithms. Ensemble methods, particularly random forest, emphasized the significance of integrating chemical and biological features in predicting drug-related side effects. Conclusions: This review article emphasized the significance of considering a variety of features, datasets, and machine learning algorithms for predicting drug-related side effects. Ensemble methods and Random Forest showed the best performance and combining chemical and biological features improved prediction. The results suggested that machine learning techniques have some potential to improve drug development and trials. Simple Summary: Multiparametric MRI with radiomics features derived from T2WI and ADC maps distinguished non-tumor regions from significant cancer and predicted the Gleason score using support vector machine (SVM) and random forest (RF) classification methods with tuned hyperparameters, as well as recursive feature elimination (RFE) and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) feature selection methods. Successful application of a novel approach to machine learning incorporating recursive feature elimination combined with random forest and support vector classifiers allowed stratification of Gleeson scores in clinical cohorts at a sensitivity greater than 0.91. We developed a novel machine-learning algorithm to augment the clinical diagnosis of prostate cancer utilizing first and second-order texture analysis metrics in a novel application of machine-learning radiomics analysis. We successfully discriminated between significant prostate cancers versus non-tumor regions and provided accurate prediction between Gleason score cohorts with statistical sensitivity of 0.82, 0.81 and 0.91 in three separate pathology classifications. Tumor heterogeneity and prediction of the Gleason score were quantified using two feature selection approaches and two separate classifiers with tuned hyperparameters. There was a total of 71 patients analyzed in this study. Multiparametric MRI, incorporating T2WI and ADC maps, were used to derive radiomics features. Recursive feature elimination (RFE), the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO), and two classification approaches, incorporating a support vector machine (SVM) (with randomized search) and random forest (RF) (with grid search), were utilized to differentiate between non-tumor regions and significant cancer while also predicting the Gleason score. In T2WI images, the RFE feature selection approach combined with RF and SVM classifiers outperformed LASSO with SVM and RF classifiers. The best performance was achieved by combining LASSO and SVM into a model that used both T2WI and ADC images. This model had an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.91. Radiomic features computed from ADC and T2WI images were used to predict three groups of Gleason score using two kinds of feature selection methods (RFE and LASSO), RF and SVM classifier models with tuned hyperparameters. Using combined sequences (T2WI and ADC map images) and combined radiomics (1st and GLCM features), LASSO, with a feature selection method with RF, was able to predict G3 with the highest sensitivity at a level AUC of 0.92. The adequacy and efficacy of simple and hybrid machine learning and Computational Intelligence algorithms were evaluated for the classification of potential prostate cancer patients in two distinct categories, the high- and the low-risk group for PCa. The evaluation is based on randomly generated surrogate data for the biomarker PSA, considering that reported epidemiological data indicated that PSA values follow a lognormal distribution. In addition, four more biomarkers were considered, namely, PSAD (PSA density), PSAV (PSA velocity), PSA ratio, and Digital Rectal Exam evaluation (DRE), as well as patient age. Seven simple classification algorithms, namely, Decision Trees, Random Forests, Support Vector Machines, K-Nearest Neighbors, Logistic Regression, Naïve Bayes, and Artificial Neural Networks, were evaluated in terms of classification accuracy. In addition, three hybrid algorithms were developed and introduced in the present work, where Genetic Algorithms were utilized as a metaheuristic searching technique in order to optimize the training set, in terms of minimizing its size, to give optimal classification accuracy for the simple algorithms including K-Nearest Neighbors, a K-means clustering algorithm, and a genetic clustering algorithm. Results indicated that prostate cancer cases can be classified with high accuracy, even by the use of small training sets, with sizes that could be even smaller than 30% of the dataset. Numerous computer experiments indicated that the proposed training set minimization does not cause overfitting of the hybrid algorithms. Imaging hyperspectral technology is becoming popular in agriculture to provide detailed information on crop growth. In this work, we propose an estimation of rapeseed pod's water content model and identification of maturity levels (green, yellow, and full) model by using this technology. Four types of hyperspectral features are extracted—color, texture, spectral three-edge parameters, and spectral indices. By integrating these features, satisfactory results are achieved: the optimal feature combination is from spectral indices and three-edge parameters, with low RRMSE and RE for yellow maturity. Incorporating spectral indices significantly improved the pod's water content estimation, reducing RRMSE by up to 43.30% and 30.11% in the green and full maturity stages. Random forest and support vector machine with kernel method (SVM-KM) algorithms outperformed other statistical models, with SVM-KM achieving up to 96.90% accuracy in identifying maturity levels. To unveil the impact of each condition variable on the leaching efficiency index during the heap leaching process of rare earth ore and establish a prediction model for leaching conditions and efficiency, common parameters in the heap leaching process of rare earth ore were selected. In addition, the pilot-scale test data were collected over 50 days. Based on the collected data, the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) linear regression method was used for fitting analysis to determine each variable's influence on the change in leaching efficiency. The results indicated a linear relationship between the flow rate of the leaching solution and leaching efficiency. In contrast, no obvious linear relationship was observed between other condition variables and leaching efficiency. Spearman's rank correlation coefficient was calculated to analyze the nonlinear correlation between the abovementioned variables and the leaching efficiency index. The correlation coefficients were found to be −0.78, 0.88, −0.93, −0.53, 0.71, and −0.93 for ammonium content in the leaching agent, pH of the leaching agent, rare earth content, ammonium content in the leaching solution, pH of the leaching solution, and the flow rate of the leaching solution, respectively. This suggests that the flow rate of the leaching solution, rare earth content, and pH of the leaching agent significantly influence leaching efficiency, thus affecting the rare earth leaching efficiency index. Based on the correlation analysis results of leaching conditions and efficiency, a dataset with limited data trained by the common Ordinary Least Squares model, linear regression model, random forest model, and support vector machine regression model was selected to develop a prediction model for the leaching process data. The results indicated that the random forest model had the lowest mean square error of 7.47 among the four models and the coefficient of determination closest to 1 (0.99). This model can effectively analyze and predict condition variables' data and leaching efficiency index in the heap leaching process of rare earth ore, with a prediction accuracy exceeding 90%, thus providing intelligent guidance for the heap leaching process of rare earth ores. Non-neural machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) are used to predict system failures in industrial maintenance. However, only a few studies have assessed the effect of varying the amount of past data used to make a prediction and the extension in the future of the forecast. This study evaluates the impact of the size of the reading window and of the prediction window on the performances of models trained to forecast failures in three datasets of (1) an industrial wrapping machine working in discrete sessions, (2) an industrial blood refrigerator working continuously, and (3) a nitrogen generator working continuously. A binary classification task assigns the positive label to the prediction window based on the probability of a failure to occur in such an interval. Six algorithms (logistic regression, random forest, support vector machine, LSTM, ConvLSTM, and Transformers) are compared on multivariate time series. The dimension of the prediction windows plays a crucial role and the results highlight the effectiveness of DL approaches in classifying data with diverse time-dependent patterns preceding a failure and the effectiveness of ML approaches in classifying similar and repetitive patterns preceding a failure. Structured Query Language (SQL) injections pose a constant threat to web services, highlighting the need for efficient detection to address this vulnerability. This study compares machine learning algorithms for detecting SQL injections in web microservices trained using a public dataset of 22,764 records. Additionally, a software architecture based on the microservices approach was implemented, in which trained models and the web application were deployed to validate requests and detect attacks. A literature review was conducted to identify types of SQL injections and machine learning algorithms. The results of random forest, decision tree, and support vector machine were compared for detecting SQL injections. The findings show that random forest outperforms with a precision and accuracy of 99%, a recall of 97%, and an F1 score of 98%. In contrast, decision tree achieved a precision of 92%, a recall of 86%, and an F1 score of 97%. The health assessment of airborne lithium batteries is crucial for flight testing, ensuring the safety and reliability of aircraft power systems. This paper proposes a support vector machine-based algorithm for the health assessment of airborne lithium batteries, featuring a dynamic correction mechanism for the risk loss penalty parameter. The proposed approach systematically adjusts risk loss penalty parameters based on sample misjudgment ratios and incorporates fault identification corrections to meet the safety requirements of the airborne operation. The experimental results demonstrate the stability and reliability of the proposed algorithm in hyperplane deviation suppression as well as significant improvements in fault sample recall rates. When compared with traditional SVM and other baseline methods such as Random Forest and SVR, our method significantly outperformed these algorithms in terms of accuracy, recall rate, and precision rate. Ultra High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) has shown extraordinary performance in terms of strength and durability. However, having a cost-effective and sustainable UHPC mix design is a challenge in the construction sector. This study aims on building a predictable model that can help in determining the compressive strength of UHPC. The research focuses on applying multiple machine learning (ML) models and evaluating their performance in predicting the strength prediction of UHPC. Two reliable metrics are used to evaluate the performance of the model which are the coefficient of determination (R 2) and mean squared error (MSE). The parameters that are affecting the compressive strength of UHPC are fly ash percentage levels (FA%), superplasticizer content, water to binder ratio (w/b), and curing period. A total of 54 ML models were used, consisting of Linear Regression, Support Vector Machines (SVM), Neural Networks, and Random forests algorithms. Among these models, Random Forest proved to be the most effective in capturing the relationships in UHPC's behaviour with an R squared score of 0.8857. The Random Forest ML model is also used in this paper to conduct a parametric study that will help in obtaining the compressive strength of UHPC with higher content of FA%, which is not sufficiently studied in the literature. This research explores the optimization of firewall systems within private cloud environments, specifically focusing on a 30-day evaluation of the Omni-Secure Firewall. Employing a multi-metric approach, the study introduces an innovative effectiveness metric (E) that amalgamates precision, recall, and redundancy considerations. The evaluation spans various machine learning models, including random forest, support vector machines, neural networks, k-nearest neighbors, decision tree, stochastic gradient descent, naive Bayes, logistic regression, gradient boosting, and AdaBoost. Benchmarking against service level agreement (SLA) metrics showcases the Omni-Secure Firewall's commendable performance in meeting predefined targets. To improve the accuracy of signal recognition in delay-based optical reservoir computing (RC) systems, this paper proposes the use of nonlinear algorithms at the output layer to replace traditional linear algorithms for training and testing datasets and apply them to the identification of frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) LiDAR signals. This marks the inaugural use of the system for the identification of FMCW LiDAR signals. We elaborate on the fundamental principles of a delay-based optical RC system using an optical-injected distributed feedback laser (DFB) laser and discriminate four FMCW LiDAR signals through this setup. In the output layer, three distinct training algorithms—namely linear regression, support vector machine (SVM), and random forest—were employed to train the optical reservoir. Upon analyzing the experimental results, it was found that regardless of the size of the dataset, the recognition accuracy of the two nonlinear training algorithms was superior to that of the linear regression algorithm.
