Emmerson Mnangagwa replaced Robert Mugabe as Zimbabwe’s President following a military coup in 2017. Under Mugabe, Zimbabwe and China have had close ties since the colonial period. When Zimbabwe suffered serious economic and political upheaval in the late 1990s and the subsequent imposition of sanctions by the West, Mugabe propounded the country’s ‘Look East’ policy that eventually turned out to be ‘Look China’ policy. Against this backdrop, Mnangagwa came to the fore with the promise to reengage with Zimbabwe’s traditional partners. This paper examines Zimbabwe’s engagement with the West vis-à-vis China in the post-Mugabe era. It further seeks to answer the following questions: How successful is Zimbabwe in its reengagement with the West? Does Mnangagwa still enjoy cordial relations with China? The study is descriptive and analytical in nature, and concludes that considering the negligible engagement with the West, it is safe to say that Zimbabwe continues to heavily rely upon China for its political and economic development [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CHINA-United States relations ,INTERNATIONAL markets ,INTERNATIONAL trade - Abstract
Hong Kong is a highly developed and incredibly dense territory with one of the world’s largest trade-to-GDP ratios in the world. The region has a long history of representation on major international markets and is located close to their largest trading partner, China. As such, Hong Kong is of inherent interest to the many theories of international trade. This paper observed that trade between Hong Kong and China satisfies many of the assumptions made by Heckscher-Ohlin Theory and therefore warrants validation. With data sourced from World Integrated Trade Solution (WITS) and the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OCE), the predicted outcomes of the Heckscher-Ohlin theorem were tested against real outcomes in Hong Kong. The test revealed that Hong Kong’s largest exports to both China and the United States were capital intensive. It is concluded that Hong Kong’s trade with China may be explained by relative factor abundance, while the that trade between Hong Kong and the US is likely to be explained by different determinants. DEBT ,DEMOCRACY ,COLLECTIONS - Abstract
Based on a comprehensive collection of facts, this paper conceptually outlines and graphically visualizes five powerful political-economic change drivers that are bound to shape the world in the medium term. These "megacycle trends" include: (1) Liberal democracies under attack; (2) Fight against multiethnicity and multiculturality; (3) Increase in global debt; (4) Emergence of a multicentric world; and (5) Slowing of China's rise. To succeed, it is of crucial importance for a powerful group of innovative leaders around the world to understand, shape, and leverage these inflective global supertrends together with inspired and aligned followers. A writer much ahead of her time, Pearl S Buck spent her childhood and early years of youth in China, and her writings about the East helped it in developing cultural ties with the West. Buck dealt with many multicultural issues, including race, immigration, women, and minority rights. She was a political activist who had a deep insight and understanding of world politics particularly American politics, and very well gauged the need to bring about a radical change in the global political scenario. Her works explicitly deal with these issues, which, in the 1990s and beyond, became focal points around which the philosophical discourse on multiculturalism was constructed. She believed in "cultural competence"--"the ability of a person to effectively interact, work, and develop meaningful relationships with people of various cultural backgrounds." This paper presents a multicultural reading of Buck's oeuvre and her work as a cultural and social activist. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Domestic violence is a severe human rights predicament that transcends cultural, economic, social and religious ranks. It affects human dignity and health, and has long-term socioeconomic consequences. This paper examines domestic violence issues from the Ghanaian and Chinese perspectives, while highlighting the relationship between domestic violence and human rights. Ghana's government has enacted the Domestic Violence Act 732 (2007) to help fight this menace, while China has enacted the 2016 anti-domestic violence law. This was purposely enacted to protect the victims through full legal measures, while specifically ensuring protection orders and a written notice method that warrants early mediation from employers, government officials, social workers, and law enforcement authorities. This paper unravels the numerous factors behind domestic violence and recommends that China and Ghana should effectively fight against domestic violence by adopting an efficient approach to expose the menace of domestic violence. WESTERN countries ,COVID-19 pandemic ,INTERNATIONAL relations ,DISEASE outbreaks - Abstract
Year 2020 will be a watershed in world politics given the continuing repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic. The outbreak of this pandemic and its impact seem to suggest the arrival of a new world order. The role of China in the outbreak of this disease has been a subject of discussion, although the World Health Organization (WHO) has given it a clean chit. However, the Western world continues to suspect China's role in the outbreak. This suspicion has drawn a new fault line between the US and China. This new world order, which will be built on a struggle for dominance in international affairs, will have two major poles, with leadership held by two countries: the US (current superpower) and China (emerging superpower). Cold War power politics will resurface, with Asia as the epicenter. Bipolarity concept will arise again in world politics. Ideas like D-10, G-7 extension, Quad grouping and Five Eyes networking seem to bolster this bipolarity idea. Given this background, this paper seeks to examine the relevance of India's space program in South East Asia. South East Asia, which is a part of the Indo-Pacific, is going to witness new developments of this new world order. In this light, the aim of this paper is to gain a better understanding of India's space program and its potential applications in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) area. HIGHER education ,GENDER inequality ,CONFUCIANISM ,UNIVERSITIES & colleges - Abstract
This study endeavors to investigate the factors influencing women's career progression in the context of higher education within Vietnamese society. The societal landscape of Vietnam has been significantly shaped by the enduring influence of Confucianism, originating from China's dominance over the region for several centuries, while simultaneously undergoing rapid societal transformations. The objective of this study is to examine the barriers and enablers that impact women's advancement in higher education in Vietnam, and to establish the interrelationships among these factors through the development of a conceptual diagram. This framework was expected to offer insights into the intricate dynamics between these factors. Moreover, practical tips and strategies are proposed to assist women in navigating their career paths within the academic context. The intended outcomes of this study would not only contribute to the body of knowledge by providing updated insights but also serve as a good resource for women and policymakers involved in promoting gender equality. SUPPLY chains ,SEAFOOD ,SUPPLY chain disruptions - Abstract
The study aims to assess the factors that influence the choice of cold chain transportation modes for seafood exports from Vietnam to China. We propose a Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) framework using three different modes of transportation as alternatives and seven criteria for competitive evaluation. A Best-Worst Method (BWM) is utilized to evaluate the most and the least important criteria in seafood exports and the most suitable mode of transport of seafood from Vietnam to China, considering a period in which supply chain disruptions, port congestion, and low reliability of the transport network seem to be the new normal. The findings reveal that, among the three modes of transport (air, sea, and land), land transport is prioritized for exporting seafood from Vietnam to China. Furthermore, in terms of transport seafood via road, it is found that 'equipment' and 'facility' are prioritized. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
