Evaluating tool design guidelines with SWAN.

With the growth of the human population, the need for food resources increases, so the pressure on living marine resources also increases. In addition to this aspect, the Black Sea ecosystem during recent decades suffered changes that determined the deterioration of all components of the marine ecosystem, which had direct impact on decreasing the biological diversity and productivity, affecting the quality of life and ecological balance. The species Alosa immaculata (Bennet, 1835) - Pontic shad is of high commercial value and with an important role in the livelihoods of many local communities across the Black Sea coast. However, the status of Pontic shad fisheries is unknown, mainly because is a status of data-poor fish stocks. Thus, growth parameters were determined in a total of 783 individuals with a biomass of 194.5 kg from 9 fishing points of the Romanian Black Sea Coast. For the estimated parameters of length-weight relation the combined data and sexes have been used, coefficient of determination (r²) was 0.794 and b value 2.879. Turbot is one of the most valuable fish species in the Black Sea commercial fishery. The serious, dramatic depletion of the turbot stock and catches that began in the 1980s was caused by overfishing and poor ecological conditions. The state of the turbot stock began to improve in the northwestern part of the Black Sea in 2016. Landings were at their 30-year maximum in this part of the sea. Catches per unit effort (CPUEs) have been at a stable, high level there for the last few years. Average turbot weight and length have also been increasing. The Stock Synthesis (SS3) framework was used in the stock assessment. According to SS3 analysis, fishing mortality (F) reached the minimum level of 0.29 in 2018. The cumulative SPR (Spawner Potential Rate) index was 0.27, which approximately equaled SPRMSY = 0.25. Thus, currently the turbot stock is mostly moderately exploited at a level close to the management target in the northwestern part of the Black Sea. However, the entire Black Sea population has not fully recovered yet.

Importance of the topic. The patients with purulent-inflammatory processes of soft tissues are the most common category of surgical patients, since the effectiveness of their treatment decreases due to the development of microorganism resistance to antibiotics and antiseptics. The aim of research was to study the clinical efficacy of topical application of miramistin-metronidazole combination immobilized on sodium salt of carboxymethyl cellulose in the treatment of purulent-inflammatory processes of soft tissues.Materials and methods. The study included 60 patients with purulent-inflammatory diseases of soft tissues. They were divided into 2 groups, 30 people in each group. All patients were exposed to partial surgical treatment of the purulent focus. In the first group, the treatment consisted of local application of dioxomethyltetrahydropyrimidine ointment with the antibiotic chloramphenicol, and in the second group with miramistin-metronidazole combination immobilized on the sodium salt of carboxymethylcellulose. The course of the wound process was assessed by the dynamics of the local wound temperature, the percentage of reduction of the wound size and volume and the rate of its healing; the terms of edema and purulent discharge elimination, the onset of the appearance of mature granulations and epithelialization of wounds, the cessation of the microflora growth in wounds, the average number of inpatient days were also registered. Results. Measurements of the local wound temperature demonstrated that the inflammatory process in patients of the first group lasted for 10 days, and in patients of the second group for 5-6 days. Prior to discharge from the hospital, the wound area was 16.1% and the volume of wounds was 14% less in patients of the second group compared with similar findings in patients of the first group. The edema of the tissues surrounding the wound eliminated within 1.5 days, and the exudation from the wound stopped 2 days earlier in patients of the second group. Granulation in the wound appeared 2 days, and marginal epithelialization 1 day earlier in patients of the second group. With bacterial culturing of the wound discharge, the growth ceased 1 day earlier in patients of the second group compared to patients in the first group. Such dynamics of the course of the wound process led to a 3 bed-day decrease in the hospital stay of patients of the second group.Conclusion. Local treatment of purulent-inflammatory diseases of soft tissues with miramistin-metronidazole combination allowed optimizing the course of the wound process, reducing duration of inpatient stay.

WKD3Lists2 created lists of regionally relevant commercial fish and shellfish species (and higher order taxa) for the use of Article 8 reporting by EU member states under Descriptor 3 of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD). The regional taxa lists were based on landings data from the Fisheries Dependent Information data base (FDI) provided by EU member states and compiled by the Joint Research Centre (JRC). The taxonomy of landings data was consolidated by regional experts and the consolidated data were combined to obtain absolute and proportional landing weights and values for each (sub)re-gion, which were used to apply dual (weight and vale) selection thresholds to compile (sub)re-gional D3-taxa-lists. Regional D3-taxa-lists were produced for two MSFD regions (Baltic Sea & Black Sea) and eight MSFD subregions: The Greater North Sea, Celtic Seas, the Bay of Biscay and Iberian Coast, Mac-aronesia, Western Mediterranean, the Ionian Sea & Central Mediterranean, the Adriatic Sea and the Aegean-Levantine Sea. To exclude taxa with very low landing weights or value from the final lists, two types of thresh-olds (cumulative and minimum) with differing cut-off values were evaluated (90%, 95%, 98% and 99% for cumulative and 0.1% and 1% for minimum thresholds). Depending on the cut-off value, the number of taxa included varied substantially and in most (sub)regions the application of thresholds reduced the initial number of taxa by more than 50%. WKD3Lists2 did not recommend any threshold type or cut-off value to be applied generically in all (sub)regions, but identified trade-offs between inclusiveness and parsimony of relevant con-tent i.e. higher cut-off values will lead to longer lists including many taxa with relatively low landings weights/values. In some (sub)regions, thresholds with lower cut-off values (90% to 95%) were considered feasible by regional experts (Mediterranean subregions, Bay of Biscay and Iberian Coast, Macaronesia), whereas in other MSFD (sub)regions cut-off values in the range of 98-99% were considered as appropriate (Baltic Sea, Greater North Sea, Celtic Seas). The regional D3-taxa lists by WKD3Lists2 were created without considering the availability of data or assessments i.e. many species are included, for which no assessment information is avail-able. WKD3Lists2 decided on this approach because a representative selection of commercially targeted taxa was considered to indicate knowledge and data gaps in current data collection and assessment schemes. Regional species lists shall be used by EU member states for the national reporting of D3. Stocks and species from the regional lists shall be considered by member states, and additional stocks/species can be added where appropriate (e.g. those stocks/species of national or local of importance that do not appear on the regional lists). x WKD3Lists2 discussed and compiled recommendations on how Member States can complement the regional lists of D3-taxa. A key recommendation is to maintain taxa reported in 2018 under D3, even if they are not part of the regional D3-taxa list for 2024. Wherever possible, Member States should report on stock level. Swift is an open-source programming language and Apple's recommended choice for app development. Given the global widespread use of Apple devices, the ability to analyze Swift programs has significant impact on millions of users. Although static analysis frameworks exist for various computing platforms, there is a lack of comparable tools for Swift. While LLVM and Clang support some analyses for Swift, they are either primarily dynamic analyses or not suitable for deeper analyses of Swift programs such as taint tracking. Moreover, other existing tools for Swift only help enforce code styles and best practices. In this paper, we present SWAN, an open-source framework that allows robust program analyses of Swift programs using IBM's T.J. Watson Libraries for Analysis (WALA). To provide a wide range of analyses for Swift, SWAN leverages the well-established libraries in WALA. SWAN is publicly available at https://github.com/themaplelab/swan. In the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision (ICD-10) two opposing principles are combined and mixed: atheoreticity that is necessary for the natural classification and commitment to nosology. Implementation of these principles requires a two-stage qualification. The first stage should be narrative detailed syndromological qualifications with identification of psychotic level of disorders. As for the second stage, the qualification should be nosological, based on complete clinical analysis, which is far from being possible to realize at once. ICD-10, specifically brought to nosological certainty, may remain the natural foundation for nosological qualification. Implementation of the syndromic qualification at the first stage will allow to consider nosological features of each syndrome at the second stage and to expand the list of criteria in different clusters. Such a suggestion opens the prospect for subsequent revisions of the ICD and allows to direct our efforts and those of practitioners to the unified channel, where the statistical goals would not be implemented at the expense of the research ones.

Sex ratio, morphometric characteristics, age and growth for Pontic shad from Romanian Black Sea Coast were examined. A total of 2.133 individuals were caught between March 2012 and September 2013. Female : male sex ratio was 0.62. According to the age reading, distribution varied form II to V year. The von Bertalanffy equation and growth performance index were determined by ESP software in Pontic shad. The asymptotic length (L∞ = L infinity) of Pontic shad generated by the ELEFAN I method, after introducing total length data for the two years of study, was 41.5. The natural mortality instantaneous coefficient (M) of the entire Pontic shad population, calculated according to Pauly’s empirical equation, using the growth parameters of the Von Bertalanffy formula and the mean annual temperature of the two study years of 13°C, recorded the following values: M = 0.585 in 2012 and M = 0.639 in 2013. According with the resultants, it is recommended to perform a sustainable fishing which allows the capture of legal-sized of fish.

Relevance. Purulent complications occur in 35-45% of patients with surgical diseases, lethality rate from these conditions achieves 25%. The purpose of the study. To investigate the wound process while treating the purulent wounds with immobilized forms of miramistin and benzalkonium chloride in gel of sodium salt of carboxymetylcellulose. Materials and methods. There were analysed results of experimental study of the wound process on 108 male Wistar rats. Experimental animals were divided into 3 groups, each group included 36 rats. In a comparison group ‘Levomekol’ ointment was used for treatment. In the first experimental group treatment was done by the ointment with the following composition: 0,01% solution of miramistin — 100 g, metronidazol –1,0 g, sodium salt of carboxymetylcellulose — 4,0 g, while in the second experimental group ointment composition included benzalkonium chloride 0,02 g, metronidazol — 1,0 g, sodium salt of carboxymetylcellulose — 4,0 g, purified water — up to 100,0 g. The wound process was evaluated by planimetric, microbiological and histological methods of investigation. Results and its discussion. The reduction of wound area in the first experimental group was higher than in a comparison group on the 3rd day of the experiment by 9,7%, on the 5th day — by 7,6%, on the 10th and 15th days — by 10,5%, while in the second experimental group the change was 37,2%, 27,3%, 13,8% and 6,9% respectively. In the first experimental group microbial contamination of the wound was less than in a comparison group by 5,8х106, on the 5th day — by 3,1х105, on the 10th day — by 6,1х104, while in the second experimental group on the 3rd day there were no differences, on the 5th day — by 6,3х105, on the 10th day — 1,1х104. Histological investigations of the wound biopsies on the 10th day of experiment showed that in a comparison group the bottom of the wound was covered by granulation tissue without signs of epithelization, there was full coverage of the wound with a newly formed epithelium in experimental groups. Conclusions. The use of prolonged quaternary ammonium antiseptics in treatment of purulent wounds is pathogenetically justified and efficient.

Azov shad ( Alosa tanaica , Grimm 1901) is a marine anadromous species, which migrates for spawning from sea into fresh water lakes and rivers. It winters in the sea and appears close to shore in spring when the water temperature reaches the value of approximately 6 degrees Celsius. The paper presents the biological parameters such as length and weight class structure, age, sex ratio and degree of maturation of the commercial fish Azov shad belonging to the family Clupeidae . The investigations were performed during 2014 on fish caught along the entire Romanian coast from Sulina to Vama Veche. The study of the behaviour of Azov shad (reproduction, migration, feeding) is important to understand the impact on populations and to find sustainable solutions to manage these aspects. The preference for certain areas of distribution, for feeding and breeding was determined by analysing samples collected by passive fishing (shad gillnets set in all fishing points across the Romanian Coast). The main aim of this research is to identify the current state of Azov shad population along the Black Sea Coast considering that its biology and conservation are less known. Â

Background Bipolar disorder (BD) is a common and highly heritable disorder of mood. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified several independent susceptibility loci. In order to extract more biological information from GWAS data, multi-locus approaches represent powerful tools since they utilize knowledge about biological processes to integrate functional sets of genes at strongly to moderately associated loci. Methods We conducted gene set enrichment analyses (GSEA) using 2.3 million single-nucleotide polymorphisms, 397 Reactome pathways and 24,025 patients with BD and controls. RNA expression of implicated individual genes and gene sets were examined in post-mortem brains across lifespan. Results Two pathways showed a significant enrichment after correction for multiple comparisons in the GSEA: GRB2 events in ERBB2 signaling, for which 6 of 21 genes were BD associated (P FDR = 0.0377), and NCAM signaling for neurite out-growth, for which 11 out of 62 genes were BD associated (P FDR = 0.0451). Most pathway genes showed peaks of RNA co-expression during fetal development and infancy and mapped to neocortical areas and parts of the limbic system. Limitations Pathway associations were technically reproduced by two methods, although they were not formally replicated in independent samples. Gene expression was explored in controls but not in patients. Conclusions Pathway analysis in large GWAS data of BD and follow-up of gene expression patterns in healthy brains provide support for an involvement of neurodevelopmental processes in the etiology of this neuropsychiatric disease. Future studies are required to further evaluate the relevance of the implicated genes on pathway functioning and clinical aspects of BD.

Bipolar disorder (BD) is a highly heritable neuropsychiatric disease characterized by recurrent episodes of mania and depression. BD shows substantial clinical and genetic overlap with other psychiatric disorders, in particular schizophrenia (SCZ). The genes underlying this etiological overlap remain largely unknown. A recent SCZ genome wide association study (GWAS) by the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium identified 128 independent genome-wide significant single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). The present study investigated whether these SCZ-associated SNPs also contribute to BD development through the performance of association testing in a large BD GWAS dataset (9747 patients, 14278 controls). After re-imputation and correction for sample overlap, 22 of 107 investigated SCZ SNPs showed nominal association with BD. The number of shared SCZ-BD SNPs was significantly higher than expected (p = 1.46x10-8). This provides further evidence that SCZ-associated loci contribute to the development of BD. Two SNPs remained significant after Bonferroni correction. The most strongly associated SNP was located near TRANK1, which is a reported genome-wide significant risk gene for BD. Pathway analyses for all shared SCZ-BD SNPs revealed 25 nominally enriched gene-sets, which showed partial overlap in terms of the underlying genes. The enriched gene-sets included calcium- and glutamate signaling, neuropathic pain signaling in dorsal horn neurons, and calmodulin binding. The present data provide further insights into shared risk loci and disease-associated pathways for BD and SCZ. This may suggest new research directions for the treatment and prevention of these two major psychiatric disorders.
