Abstract

One of the conditions for human success in today's high-tech world is critical thinking. In this regard, the education of many countries, including Russian education, is actively seeking effective ways of its development. Integrated scientific disciplines have a great, but not yet sufficiently evaluated potential for the development of critical thinking, as they, firstly, are based on the methods of scientific cognition, and secondly, are aimed at an integrated consideration of problems from the perspective of different natural sciences. Therefore, the aim of the study was to identify ways to develop and diagnose critical thinking of students when studying integrated science disciplines. The work involved methods of analysis and synthesis of scientific and methodological research on the development of critical thinking, as well as teaching materials on integrated science disciplines. The analysis of sources made it possible to identify such significant components of critical thinking as creative, rational, logical, reflexive and metacognitive thinking. To develop these components, five key critical thinking skills have been identified on the basis of the assessment of the potential of integrated natural science disciplines: the ability to reach reasonable conclusions based on a chain of logical reasoning; the ability to model real objects, processes and phenomena; the ability to think with open mind, recognizing and evaluating the reliability of information; the ability to make hypotheses and propose ways to test them; the ability to generate ideas to solve a specific problem. The ways of forming these skills in the learning process have been defined. Assessment of students' critical thinking dynamics was carried out using a specially developed diagnostic toolkit in the form of a set of problem-situation tasks (STEM-cases - Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). The results of the testing allow us to conclude that the identification of key skills and their systematic formation allow us to effectively develop critical thinking when studying integrated science courses. Abstract

Many young science teachers who start their career in schools are dissatisfied with their work there, which leads to major problems on the governmental scale. Hypothesis states that one of the important factors influencing the level of adaptation for novice teachers is critical thinking. There were four main factors of critical thinking valuable for novice teachers established. They include: logic, rational, creative and reflective thinking. Diagnostic tools with scientific content and a young teacher survey were developed for each factor of critical thinking. On different stages of the study there were total of 470 students and science teachers participating. The result of the study conducted via different diagnostic tests supports given hypothesis. The development of each component of critical thinking is affected by activities that a novice teacher performs. Activities include selection of the study materials for classes, creation of questions and possible answers for student and etc. Reflexive thinking was revealed to have a dominant role in school activities performance and general satisfaction of teachers with work at school. Abstract

The article describes a study carried out to determine the factors influencing the formation of consumer attitudes towards the Yandex.Food aggregator. As a result of surveys conducted using online platforms, certain factors of three active components of the attitude were identified that have the greatest effect on the consumer student of UrFU when choosing a platform. The results obtained in the course of the study influenced the formation of recommendations, the observance of which will allow changing the attitude of the consumer towards the brand, gaining greater loyalty from existing consumers and attracting new ones. В статье описано исследование, проведенное в рамках определения факторов, влияющих на формирование отношения потребителя к агрегатору Яндекс.Еда. В результате опросов, проведенных с помощью онлайн-платформ, были выявлены определенные факторы трех активных компонентов отношения, которые оказывают наибольший эффект на потребителя-студента УрФУ при выборе платформы. Полученные в ходе исследования результаты повлияли на формирование рекомендаций, соблюдение которых позволит изменить отношение потребителя к бренду, добиться большей лояльности от существующих потребителей и привлечь новых.

Abstract

Ecology and biogeography of bivalve transmissible neoplasia (BTN) are underexplored due to its recent discovery and a challenging diagnostics. Blue mussels harbour two evolutionary lineages of BTN, MtrBTN1 and MtrBTN2, both derived from Mytilus trossulus. MtrBTN1 has been found only in M. trossulus from North Pacific. MtrBTN2 parasitizes different Mytilus spp. worldwide. BTN in M. trossulus in the Atlantic sector has never been studied. We looked for BTN in mussels from the Barents Sea using flow cytometry of cells, qPCR with primers specific to cancer-associated alleles and sequencing of mtDNA and nuclear loci. Both MtrBTN1 and MtrBTN2 were present in our material, though their prevalence was low (~0.4%). All cancers parasitized M. trossulus except one, MtrBTN1, which was found in a hybrid between M. trossulus and M. edulis. The mtDNA haplotypes found in both lineages were nearly identical to those known from the Northwest Pacific but not from elsewhere. Our results suggest that these two lineages may have arrived in the Barents Sea in recent decades with the maritime transport along the Northern Sea Route. A young evolutionary age of MtrBTN1 seems to indicate that it is an emerging disease in the process of niche expansion. Comparing the new and the published sequence data on tumour suppressor p53, we proved that the prevalence of BTN in mussels can reach epizootic levels. The finding of diverse recombinants between paternally and maternally inherited mtDNAs in somatic tissues of M. trossulus was an unexpected result of our study., (© 2023 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.)

27. Two lineages of bivalve transmissible neoplasia affect the blue mussel Mytilus trossulus Gould in the subarctic Sea of Okhotsk.

Abstract

There are increasing findings of the bivalve transmissible neoplasia derived from the Pacific mussel Mytilus trossulus ( Mtr BTN) in populations of different Mytilus species worldwide. The Subarctic is an area where this disease has not yet been sought despite the fact that Mytilus spp. are widespread there, and M. trossulus itself is a boreal species. We used flow cytometry of the hemolymph, hemocytology, and histology to diagnose disseminated neoplasia in a sample of M. trossulus from Magadan in the subarctic Sea of Okhotsk. Neoplasia was identified in 11 of 214 mussels studied. Using mtDNA COI sequencing, we revealed genotypes identical or nearly identical to known Mtr BTN ones in the hemolymph of most of the diseased mussels. Both Mtr BTN evolutionary lineages have been identified, the widespread Mtr BTN2, and Mtr BTN1, so far only known from M. trossulus in British Columbia on the other side of the Pacific from Magadan. In addition, Mtr BTN2 was represented by 2 common diverged mtDNA haplolineages. These conclusions were confirmed for selected cancerous mussels by molecular cloning of COI and additional nuclear and mtDNA genes. On the background of high genetic diversity, different cancers were similar in terms of ploidy (range 4.0-5.8 n) and nuclear-to-cell ratio. Abstract

Two lineages of bivalve transmissible neoplasia (BTN), BTN1 and BTN2, are known in blue mussels Mytilus. Both lineages derive from the Pacific mussel M. trossulus and are identified primarily by their unique genotypes of the nuclear gene EF1α. BTN1 is found in populations of M. trossulus from the Northeast Pacific, while BTN2 has been detected in populations of other Mytilus species worldwide but not in M. trossulus itself. Here we examined M. trossulus from the Sea of Japan (Northwest Pacific) for the presence of BTN. Using hemocytology and flow cytometry of the hemolymph, we confirmed the presence of disseminated neoplasia in our specimens. Cancerous mussels possessed the BTN2 EF1α genotype and two mitochondrial haplotypes with different recombinant control regions, similar to that of common BTN2 lineages. This is the first report of BTN2 in its original host species M. trossulus. A comparison of all available BTN and M. trossulus COI sequences suggests a common and recent origin of BTN2 diversity in populations of M. trossulus outside the Northeast Pacific, possibly in the Northwest Pacific.

29. A herpes-like virus in king crabs: Characterization and transmission under laboratory conditions.

Abstract

A herpes-like virus was found infecting the antennal gland and bladder epithelium in the blue king crab Paralithodes platypus from the eastern area of the Sea of Okhotsk. Electron microscopic analysis of antennal gland samples from blue king crabs with histologically confirmed signs of disease revealed virus particles, which were mostly hexagonal in shape and located primarily in the nucleus; these particles were rarely observed in the cytoplasm of infected cells. Most virus particles ranged in size from 115 to 125nm. Hemocytes of the red king crab Paralithodes camtschaticus in cell culture could be experimentally infected with virus from thawed antennal gland samples of the blue king crabs with histologically confirmed signs of viral infection. Clear signs of infection were observed in hemocyte cultures at 3-4days post-inoculation as small foci of highly vacuolated formations. These formations included several nuclei and were surrounded by a halo of small cytoplasmic bubbles containing actin and tubulin. As demonstrated by electron microscopic studies, no virus-like particles were found in the cells 1day post-inoculation, but particles become abundant at 7days post-inoculation. We developed a consensus primer PCR method for amplification of a region of the herpesviral DNA-directed DNA polymerase. Primers were designed to target sequences encoding highly conserved amino acid motifs covering a region of approximately 800bp. Thus, macroscopic, histological and ultra-structural examinations of blue king crabs infected with a virus and the molecular identification of the pathogen revealed the presence of herpesviruses. The frequency of the herpes-like viral infection in natural populations of blue king crabs in the Sea of Okhotsk ranged from 0% to 3% in different years., (Copyright © 2015 Elsevier Inc.
