We describe here how the recent Wagner's approach for applying reinforcement learning to construct examples in graph theory can be used in the search for critical graphs for small Ramsey numbers. We illustrate this application by providing lower bounds for the small Ramsey numbers $R(K_{2,5}, K_{3,5})$, $R(B_3, B_6)$ and $R(B_4, B_5)$ and by improving the lower known bound for $R(W_5, W_7)$., Comment: 6 pages

3. On the Second-Order Wiener Ratios of Iterated Line Graphs

Abstract

The Wiener index W(G) of a graph G is the sum of distances between all unordered pairs of its vertices. Dobrynin and Mel'nikov [in: Distance in Molecular Graphs - Theory, 2012, p. 85-121] propose the study of estimates for extremal values of the ratio R_k(G) = W(L^k(G))/W(G) where L^k(G) denotes the k-th iterated line graph of G. Hri\v{n}\'akov\'a, Knor and \v{S}krekovski [Art Discrete Appl. Math. 1 (2018) #P1.09] prove that for each k>2, the path P_n has the smallest value of the ratio R_k among all trees of large order n, and they conjecture that the same holds for the case k=2. We give a counterexample of every order n>21 to this conjecture.

6. On Hosoya's dormants and sprouts

Abstract

In a recent series of papers, Hosoya drew the attention to a particular aspect of constructing cospectral graphs by using coalescences: that cospectral graphs can be constructed by attaching multiple copies of a rooted graph in different ways to subsets of vertices of an underlying graph. Our principal focus is to address the expectations and questions raised in Hosoya's papers with regards to this construction. We give an explicit formula for the characteristic polynomial of such multiple coalescences, from which we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for their cospectrality. We enumerate such cospectral multiple coalescences for a few families of underlying graphs, and show the infinitude of cospectral multiple coalescences having paths as underlying graphs, which were deemed rare by Hosoya., Comment: 20 pages, 10 figures

Abstract

OBJECTIVES: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has profoundly impacted residency and fellowship training and education. However, how and to what extent the COVID-19 pandemic in Lebanon compromised the daily involvement of trainees on the clinical and ethical levels is currently unknown, which this study will shed light on. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional survey (30 questions) targeting medical residents delivering healthcare services in Lebanon. Residents from different specialties were included in the study to assess the effect of the pandemic on their education and the ethical obstacles they faced when dealing with patients. RESULTS: A total of 221 postgraduate medical students participated in our study. Results showed that about half of the residents (52.1%) were only able to do a basic physical examination rather than a full examination as a mandatory requirement in the residency curriculum. The majority (60%) agreed that the doctor–patient relationship is contravened. In addition, almost all residents suffered from fear and emotional distress that affected their education (83.7%). CONCLUSION: The findings of this study identify the effect of COVID-19 on residents' training, which affects treatment outcomes and greatly impacts the mental well-being of both healthcare workers and patients. Abstract

This research examines two neglected areas in international advertising campaigns: (1) the impact of managers' cultural orientations on agency selection and (2) the relationships between managers' perceptions of factors of media selection and agency selection. Data were generated from a mail survey to American advertising executives whose firms sell consumer durable goods in overseas markets. The findings reveal: (1) culturally-oriented managers, more than non-culturally oriented managers, use foreign advertising agencies and (2) managers' perceptions of general and specific factors of media selection do not influence their selection of advertising agencies. 29. Improving the media mix: how promotional products enhance advertising impact.

Abstract

Many traditional forms of advertising are losing ground to alternative media. Such a trend represents opportunities for the promotional products medium. However, the effectiveness of promotional products in comparison to other advertising alternatives has not been widely empirically tested. This experiment examines responses to advertising media by employing two sets of seven randomly assigned conditions at two major U.S. universities. The findings revealed statistically significant effective improvements in contrast to television advertising when promotional products were used in credibility perceptions, attitudes towards the advertisement and the product, and behavioural intents such as purchasing intent and referral intent. Additionally, positive effects were observed when promotional products were used in conjunction with television and print advertising compared with television and print advertising alone. Abstract

Bilan d’une année expérimentale Cette première année d’échanges a mobilisé plus de 200 participants et quelque 25 intervenants différents. Biologie, chimie, hydrologie, génétique, médecine, sociologie, géographie… Toutes les disciplines ont été mobilisées au cours des neuf tables rondes organisées entre septembre 2021 et novembre 2022. Au moment d’en faire le bilan, les participants ont souligné la qualité et la sérénité des échanges qu’ils ont pu avoir. Les responsables d’enseignement du Lycée de la Mer ont également tenu à souligner qu’elles avaient été une ressource précieuse pour les étudiants. Ils y ont beaucoup appris, en lien avec les problématiques qu’ils affronteront dans leur parcours professionnel. Les comptes-rendus jouent également pleinement leur rôle en permettant de capitaliser sur les présentations et discussions. Ces tables-rondes remplissent donc pleinement les buts qui leur ont été donnés : transmission de connaissances sur les recherches scientifiques et techniques concernant les coquillages et leur milieu, renforcement des échanges entre conchyliculteurs et chercheurs autour des projets en cours, afin qu’ils prennent en compte la réalité des territoires et des métiers, et que, tous ensemble, nous construisons une filière plus résiliente face au changement climatique et ses conséquences. C’est donc avec plaisir qu’elles se poursuivront en 2023. Le CRCM et l’IFREMER Ce qu’il faut retenir Comment mieux anticiper un avenir incertain ? Les intervenants de cette dernière table-ronde de l’année 2022 ont multiplié les pistes de réponse. Ainsi, Camille Grosjean du Cépralmar a détaillé la méthodologie du futur observatoire de l’économie conchylicole en Occitanie. Fabrice Grillon-Gaborit a pour sa part insisté sur différents projets du contrat de filière conchylicole en cours : écloserie, nurserie, mise à l’abri, application sur smartphone, analyse des apports en eau douce… Enfin, deux étudiants de master de biologie quantitative ont présenté les premières briques d’une méthode de détection rapide et peu coûteuse de Vibrio Aestuarianus.

Abstract

Shorter production lifecycles, new challenges due to the advancing globalization, and increasing demand for individualized products are only some of the general conditions that internationally operating manufacturing companies have to face. Therefore, adaptable production systems are required which can be changed to the current requirements of the production process. In this article, a modular visual assistance system is presented which can be integrated in different production systems and environments. For a successful integration of the assistance system a calibration is indispensable, thus a calibration method for one component of the assistance system is discussed in detail. In order to control the system, a visual data flow programming tool is used in combination with MQTT as a standard communication protocol. By doing so, the programming effort of the system is reduced and new components can easily be added to the system by creating new flows.

Abstract

In diesem Beitrag wird ein Ansatz zur Verbesserung der Positionsbestimmung einer 3D-Kamera vorgestellt, welche auf der Verwendung von Referenzmessungen und deren Verrechnung mittels der K-Nächsten Nachbarn-Methode (KNN) sowie einer Gewichtungsfunktion basiert. Damit konnte der Fehler bei der Positionsbestimmung der ausgewählten 3D-Kamera von 15-40 mm auf 1-3 mm reduziert werden. Grundlage für das Konzept war dabei die genaue Untersuchung der Ursachen für Messungenauigkeiten des Kamerasystems, wobei vor allem Abhängigkeiten mit der Entfernung des betrachteten Objekts sowie dem Neigungswinkel der optischen Achse der Kamera bezüglich der Objektoberfläche bzw. Oberflächennormalen festgestellt wurden. Untersucht und Validiert wurde der Ansatz anhand von Messungen mit LEGO-Bauteilen, welche in verschiedenen Positionen und Orientierungen im Sichtfeld der Kamera plaziert wurden. Die Referenzmessungen für die spätere Korrektur der Positionsdaten wurden mit einem Industrieroboter in Form von taktilen Messungen vorgenommen., This paper presents an approach to improve the position determination of a 3D camera, which is based on the use of reference measurements and their compensation by means of the k-nearest neighbour method and a weighting function. This reduced the error in the position determination of the selected 3D camera from 15-40 mm to 1-3 mm. The concept was based on a detailed investigation of the causes for measurement inaccuracies of the camera system, whereby above all dependencies with the distance of the observed object as well as the tilt angle of the optical axis of the camera with respect to the normal vector of the object surface were determined. The approach was investigated and validated using measurements with LEGO components placed in different positions and orientations in the camera's field of view. Abstract

Bei der Verwendung moderner Robotersysteme ist insbesondere der Einsatz von ausgewählter Sensorik ein wesentlicher Bestandteil. Sie befähigen Industrieroboter auch komplexe Produktionsaufgaben zu absolvieren und die Anwendungsfel-der zu erweitern. [1] Dabei ist es möglich, zum einen das Roboterverhalten auf Basis der Sensorik zu adaptieren und zum anderen die Umgebung zu identifizieren [2]. Sollen Objekte im 3D-Raum mittels 2D-Sensoren, wie z. B. Laserlinien-sensoren, vermessen werden, ermöglicht die Montage dieser an einem Roboter die noch fehlende Dimension zu erzeugen. Dazu wird allerdings sowohl eine Vermessung von externen Sensoren zum Roboter als auch eine Synchronisierung der Sensordaten mit den Roboterdaten notwendig. Neben der 3D-Position einer abzufahrenden Kontur ist für die Bahnpla-nung eines Roboters zudem die Identifikation einer geeigneten Orientierung im Raum notwendig. Insbesondere bei der Bearbeitung von Freiformflächen bietet sich im Zuge der Bahnplanung die Verwendung einer Spline-Interpolation an. Dieser Beitrag beschäftigt sich in diesem Zusammenhang mit der automatisierten Graterkennung und adaptiven Bahn-planung im Rahmen der Bearbeitung eines keramischen Bauteils., When using modern robot systems, the use of selected sensor technology is a particularly important component. They enable industrial robots to complete even complex production tasks and expand the fields of application. [1] It is possible to adapt the robot behavior on the basis of the sensor technology and to identify the environment [2]. If objects in 3D space are to be measured by means of 2D sensors, such as laser line sensors, mounting these on a robot makes it possible to create the dimension that is still missing. However, this requires both a measurement from external sensors to the robot and a synchronization of the sensor data with the robot data. In addition to the 3D position of a contour to be traced, the identification of a suitable orientation in space is also necessary for the path planning of a robot. Especially when pro-cessing free-form surfaces, the use of a spline interpolation is useful in the course of path planning.
