The core and surface structure, and magnetism of mechano-synthesized LaFeO3 nanoparticles (30–40 nm), Eu3+-doped (La0.70Eu0.30FeO3), and Eu3+/Cr3+ co-doped (La0.70Eu0.30Fe0.95Cr0.05O3) are reported. Doping results in a transition from the O′-type to the O-type distorted structure. Traces of reactants, intermediate phases, and a small amount of Eu2+ ions were detected on the surfaces of the nanoparticles. The nanoparticles consist of antiferromagnetic cores flanked by ferromagnetic shells. The Eu3+ dopant ions enhance the magnetization values relative to those of the pristine nanoparticles and result in magnetic susceptibilities compatible with the presence of Eu3+ van Vleck paramagnetism of spin–orbit coupling constant (λ = 363 cm−1) and a low temperature Curie–Weiss like behavior associated with the minority Eu2+ ions. Anomalous temperature-dependent magnetic hardening due to competing magnetic anisotropy and magnetoelectric coupling effects together with a temperature-dependent dopant-sensitive exchange bias, caused by thermally activated spin reversals at the core of the nanoparticles, were observed. The objectives of this study were to evaluate (1) the performance of an automated health-monitoring system (AHMS) to identify cows with mastitis based on an alert system (health index score, HIS) that combines rumination time and physical activity; (2) the number of days between the first HIS alert and clinical diagnosis (CD) of mastitis by farm personnel; and (3) the daily rumination time, physical activity, and HIS patterns around CD. Holstein cows (n = 1,121; 451 nulliparous and 670 multiparous) were fitted with a neck-mounted electronic rumination and activity monitoring tag (HR Tags, SCR Dairy, Netanya, Israel.) from at least -21 to 80 d in milk (DIM). Raw data collected in 2-h periods were summarized per 24 h as daily rumination and activity. An HIS (0 to 100 arbitrary units) was calculated daily for individual cows with an algorithm that used rumination and activity. A positive HIS outcome was defined as an HIS of <86 units during at least 1 d from -5 to 2 d after CD. Blood concentrations of nonesterified fatty acids, β-hydroxybutyrate, total calcium, and haptoglobin were also determined in a subgroup of cows (n = 459) at -11 ± 3, -4 ± 3, 0, 3 ± 1, 7 ± 1, 14 ± 1, and 28 ± 1 DIM. The sensitivity of the HIS was 58% [95% confidence interval (CI): 49, 67] for all cases of clinical mastitis (n = 123), and 55% (95% CI: 46, 64; n = 114) and 89% (95% CI: 68, 100; n = 9) for cases of mastitis alone or concurrent with other health disorders, respectively. Among clinical cases, sensitivity was 80.7% (95% CI: 67, 97) for cases caused by Escherichia coli (n = 31) and ranged from 45 to 48% for cases caused by gram-positive bacteria (n = 39; Streptococcus agalactiae, Streptococcus dysgalactiae, Streptococcus uberis, Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., and Trueperella pyogenes), Staphylococcus aureus (n = 11), or cases with no bacterial growth (n = 25). Days between the first HIS <86 and CD were -0.6 (95% CI: -1.1, -0.2) for all cases of mastitis. Cows diagnosed with mastitis had alterations of their rumination, activity, HIS patterns, and reduced milk production around CD depending on the type of mastitis case. Cows with mastitis also had some alterations of their calcium and haptoglobin concentrations around calving. The AHMS used in this study was effective for identifying cows with clinical cases of mastitis caused by E. coli and cows with another disease occurring during an event of mastitis, but it was less effective in identifying cows with mastitis not caused by E. coli. For the first time, Frankincense resin (FR) has been carboxymethylated to produce CMFR - AuNPs and the conjugate was utilized for the Doxorubicin drug loading. The carboxymethylation of the carboxylic, phenolic, and hydroxyl functional groups of FR has been developed into carboxymethylated Frankincense resin (CMFR). A novel CMFR-AuNPs was synthesized using the developed CMFR as a stabilizing and reducing agent. The antibacterial, antioxidant, and in-vitro anticancer activities were investigated by using CMFR-AuNPs and CMFR - AuNPs@DOX. CMFR-AuNPs demonstrated antioxidative properties by quenching DPPH radicals effectively. CMFR-AuNPs and DOX@CMFR-AuNPs demonstrated strong antibacterial activity against K. pneumoniae, S. aureus, B. subtilis, and E. coli. The cell viability was tested for CMFR -AuNPs at various concentrations of Dox-loaded CMFR -AuNPs (CMFR-AuNPs + Dox1, CMFR-AuNPs + Dox 2, & CMFR-AuNPs + Dox 3). The highest inhibition was observed on MCF-7 and HeLa cell lines using CMFR-AuNPs + Dox 3, respectively. Various techniques such as UV, FTIR, TGA, XRD, SEM, EDAX and TEM were used to characterize the designed CMFR and CMFR-AuNPs. After carboxy methylation, the amorphous nature of FR changed to crystallinity, as reflected in the XRD spectra. The XRD spectrum of the CMFR- AuNPs showed FCC structure due to the involvement of hydroxyl and carboxylic functional groups of CMFR strongly bound with the AuNPs. TGA results revealed that the CMFR is thermally more stable than FR. TEM revealed that CMFR - AuNPs were well dispersed, spherical, and hexagonal with an average diameter of 7 to 10 nm, while the size of doxorubicin loaded (DOX@CMFR-AuNPs) AuNPs was 11 to 13 nm. Membrane fouling, a major challenge in desalination, is addressed in this study by investigating three different chemical cleaning protocols (A, B, and C) targeting fouled reverse osmosis (RO) membranes and microbial community composition. Cleaning protocols A and B involve different chemical treatments selected based on preliminary tests and literature review, while protocol C follows the manufacturer's standard recommendation. Membrane morphology, foulant composition, and microbial community variability in fouled, virgin, and cleaned membranes are studied. Effective biofilm removal is observed across all protocols using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), while spectroscopic techniques highlight interactions between foulants and membranes. Importantly, a critical gap in understanding how cleaning strategies influence microbial communities on membranes is addressed. Shifts in dominant bacterial phyla (Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Actinobacteria) after cleaning are identified through 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing. Cleaning A showed the best results in reducing microbial counts and restoring composition similar to virgin membranes. Additionally, chemical treatment increased dominance of resistant genera such as Staphylococcus , Bacillus , Citrobacter , and Burkholderia . This study emphasizes the necessity for tailored fouling cleaning strategies for RO membranes, with Cleaning A is a promising solution, paving the way for enhanced water purification technologies.

Objectives: To evaluate the impact of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) therapies on the incidence of pericardial effusion and its prognostic implications for patient survival., Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 60 patients diagnosed with PAH at a high-volume tertiary care center, treated with intravenous or subcutaneous prostanoids. Data were collected from 2015 to 2019, including echocardiographic assessments, right heart catheterization, World Health Organization functional class evaluations, six-minute walk distance tests, and biomarkers such as brain natriuretic peptide and N-terminal prohormone of brain natriuretic peptide. Follow-up was conducted at least 90 days post-treatment initiation., Results: Pericardial effusion was observed in 31.7% of patients before therapy. Patients with moderate to large effusions had a significantly higher mortality risk (HR = 1.92; 95% CI 1.1-44.78; p = 0.0044), while small effusions appeared protective (HR = 0.27; 95% CI 0.15-0.48; p = 0.006). Survival rates declined from 89% at one year to 71% at three years post-therapy, with effusion presence correlating with more severe PAH manifestations., Conclusions: Initial pericardial effusion severity is a critical predictor of mortality in PAH patients. Early assessment and stratified management of pericardial effusion are essential for optimizing therapeutic outcomes in PAH management. Herein, we present a novel microwave-assisted method for the synthesis of palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs) supported by Limonia acidissima Groff tree extract gum. The synthesized PdNPs were characterized using various analytical techniques, including FTIR, SEM, TEM, UV-visible, and powder XRD analyses. TEM and XRD analysis confirmed that the synthesized LAG-PdNPs are highly crystalline nature spherical shapes with an average size diameter of 7-9 nm. We employed these gum-capped PdNPs to investigate their peroxidase-like activity for colorimetric detection of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) and glucose. The oxidation of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) by H 2 O 2 , catalyzed by PdNPs, produces oxidation products quantified at 652 nm using spectrophotometry. The catalytic activity of PdNPs was optimized with respect to temperature and pH. This study investigates-for the first time-the synthesis of a novel Ca-rich biochar (N-Ca-B) and its potential use for phosphorus (P) recovery from both synthetic solutions (SS) and treated urban wastewater (TUW) in a continuous stirring tank reactor (CSTR) mode. The novel biochar was synthesized by pyrolysis at 900 °C of a mixture composed of three different materials: animal biomass (poultry manure; PM), lignocellulosic waste (date palm fronds; DPFs), and abundant mineral waste (waste marble powder; WMP). Characterization of N-Ca-B showed that it has good textural properties: well-developed porosity, and high specific surface area. Furthermore, high calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH) 2 ) and calcium oxides (CaO) nanoparticle loads were observed on the biochar surface. The dynamic CSTR assays indicated that the P recovery efficiency mainly depended on the biochar mass, P influent concentration, and, especially, the Ca content of the feeding solution. Owing to its richness in Ca cations, TUW exhibited the highest adsorbed P amount (109.2 mg g -1 ), i.e., about 14% larger than the SS. P recovery occurs through precipitation as hydroxyapatite, surface complexation, and electrostatic interactions with positively charged biochar particles. In real-world scenarios, CSTR systems can be applied as a tertiary treatment step in existing wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). This work reports the development of multifunctional or polymorphous surfaces using zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods, silica (SiO 2 ), and fluoropolymer functionalization in a sequential process. Firstly, zinc oxide nanorods were grown on activated carbon cloth (ACC) using a simple low-temperature synthesis process. ZnO nanorods-coated ACC substrate was applied to investigate the antimicrobial properties, and the results showed inhibition of 50% for Escherichia coli (E.coli) and 55% for Bacillus subtilis (B.subtilis) over 48 h of incubation time. Subsequent in-situ modification of silica nanoparticles like layer on ZnO nanorods-coated ACC surface was developed and used as an electrode for brackish water desalination in a capacitive deionization system. ZnO-SiO 2 modified ACC surface enhanced the desalination efficiency by 1.6 times, the salt removal rate (SRR) by threefold, and the durability (fouling prevention) for long-term usage compared to pristine ACC. Further modification of the ZnO-SiO 2 -ACC surface using fluoropolymer rendered the surface superhydrophobic and oleophilic. Vegetable (1.4 g/g) and crude oil (1.6 g/g) adsorption capacities were achieved for modified surface which was 70% enhancement compared with pristine ACC. Bio-based materials facilitate greener approach to engineering novel materials with multifunctional properties for various applications including water treatment. In this study, we extracted gliadin from wheat gluten using alcoholic solvent. The aggregation limitations of gliadin protein were overcome by functionalisation with metal oxides (MOs) TiO 2 , AgFe 2 O 3 and AgFe-TiO 2 prepared by chemical precipitations. The novel composites were characterised by scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-Ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetry analysis (TGA), Brunauer Emmet-Teller (BET), and zeta potential. The multifunctionality of MOs-gliadin composites was tested through toxic Escherichia coli (E. coli) inactivation and Co 2+ adsorption from water. The antibacterial results showed excellent inhibition under both dark and light conditions. The maximum Co 2+ uptake, 101 mg/g was reached with TiO 2 @gliadin after 24 h and best fitted the Langmuir isotherm model. The adsorption process followed pseudo-second order model with an equilibrium adsorption capacity, q e2 = 89.86 mg/g closer to the experimental data. Thermodynamic investigations indicated that ΔG ° =-9.677kJ/mol,ΔH°=-123kJ/mol,and ΔS°=0.490J.K/mol, respectively, suggesting that adsorption was spontaneous and endothermic. The regenerated TiO 2 @gliadin composite was still efficient after five consecutive cycles.
