A finite-time adaptive neural network position tracking control method is considered for the fractional-order chaotic permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) via command filtered backstepping in this paper. Firstly, a neural network with a fractional-order parametric update law is utilized to cope with the nonlinear and unknown functions. Then the command filtered technique is introduced to address the repeated derivative problem in backstepping. In addition, a novel finite-time control method is proposed by employing the fractional-order terminal sliding manifolds, designing the error compensation mechanism and the new virtual control laws. To reduce the influence of the permanent magnet (PM) installation error on the electromagnetic characteristics of the outer rotor permanent magnet synchronous motor (OPMSM), the rotor structure of the OPMSM is optimized in this paper. The optimization method of adding auxiliary teeth on the surface of the rotor core is studied, and the influence of different auxiliary teeth heights on the electromagnetic performance of OPMSM is analyzed. It is found that adding auxiliary teeth with suitable height can greatly reduce the installation error of the PM, increase the mechanical stability of the motor, and ensure that the electromagnetic characteristics of the motor remain at a good level. Firstly, the topology and parameters of the motor proposed in this paper are introduced and analyzed. Secondly, the influence of PM installation error on the electromagnetic performance of the motor is analyzed based on the finite element method (FEM), and the necessity of eliminating PM installation error is demonstrated. Then, the parametric scanning method is used to analyze the influence of auxiliary teeth height change on the electromagnetic performance of the motor, and the selection standard of the optimal auxiliary teeth height is determined. At present, low-speed high-torque permanent magnet motors are widely used in the sampling industry, manufacturing industry and energy industry. However, the research on low-speed high-torque permanent magnet motors is far from enough. The primary difficulty in the initial design of low-speed high-torque permanent magnet motors is the selection of pole–slot ratio. The pole–slot ratio has a great influence on the electromagnetic performance such as torque ripple and the maximum output torque of low-speed motors. Choosing the appropriate pole–slot ratio scheme can make the design of a low-speed motor more efficient. In addition, the optimization design of the motor is also a necessary process. At present, there are many studies on optimization algorithms. However, the research on sample point sampling and surrogate model fitting is not enough. Choosing the appropriate sample point sampling method and surrogate model fitting method can help one obtain a more accurate surrogate model, which lays a foundation for the optimization of the motor. Based on the above analysis, this paper first selects four representative pole–slot ratio schemes for comprehensive comparison of their electromagnetic performances. Secondly, two sample point sampling methods and three surrogate model fitting methods are combined to obtain six surrogate models, and the accuracy of the six surrogate models is compared and analyzed. Finally, a 37kW,160rpm prototype is made, and the comparison of the surrogate model optimization prediction results, the finite element simulation calculation results and the measured results is carried out to further prove the accuracy of the selected surrogate model. Because the magnetic properties of an amorphous alloy (AA) obviously change with the change of temperature, a finite element simulation method for a motor, considering the effect of temperature, is proposed in this paper. In the early design stage of the high-speed permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), the simulation of motor performance is mainly based on the magnetic performance test data at room temperature provided by the material's manufacturer. However, the influence of the temperature rise during the actual operation of the motor will lead to large errors between the simulation results and the measured results. Therefore, it is of great practical significance to measure the magnetic properties of the AA at different temperatures and use them for simulation purposes. In this paper, the magnetization characteristics and iron loss characteristics of the AA and silicon steel (ST100) used for comparison are measured at different temperatures, and the iron loss separation of the two materials at different temperatures is completed, and the hysteresis loss coefficient and eddy current loss coefficient at different temperatures are obtained. On this basis, the performance simulation of a motor model is carried out. The more accurate simulation method proposed in this paper can provide a reference for the design of AA motors in industry. This paper investigates the digital redesign of proportional integral (PI) controllers implemented under a delay of one sampling period. The usual digital redesign based on state matching cannot be directly applied here. The digital control gains are obtained by means of linear matrix inequalities that minimize the H ∞ norm associated with an error signal defined as the difference between the closed-loop system with continuous-time controller and the closed-loop system with the discrete-time controller implemented under the delay. Three synthesis conditions are given, exploring extra matrix variables and suitable matrix structures to provide more efficient redesigns that can deal even with large control delays in the implementation of the redesigned controller. As a contribution, the proposed conditions provide a theoretical guarantee that digital PIs, operating under delay, will perform very close to originally designed continuous-time PIs. A numerical example illustrates the efficiency of the proposed conditions, and a practical application for permanent magnet synchronous motor speed regulation shows good experimental results, illustrating the viability of the proposal. The single axis linear displacement measurement system of CMM is composed of grating ruler, servo motor and linear motion mechanism. Although the measuring accuracy of grating ruler is high, the accuracy of servo motor and linear motion mechanism is low. Therefore, the complex structure limits the measurement accuracy of the linear displacement measurement system. This paper introduces a novel linear displacement measurement system named magnetic levitation ruler. According to the working principle of grating ruler and the characteristics of magnetic levitation technology, the magnetic circuit design and structural design of magnetic levitation ruler are completed in this paper. The mover core of the magnetic levitation ruler is in the stable working magnetic field provided by the stator yoke. The horizontal control coil wound on the mover core can obtain more stable ampere force to improve the control accuracy of the mover core displacement. Therefore, the mover core can be moved in step mode, and the length of each step is fixed. Each step is the minimum scale of the magnetic levitation ruler. Therefore, the mover core can implement displacement measurement while moving in a linear motion. This paper analyzes the working principle of levitation, horizontal motion, and displacement measurement of magnetic levitation ruler, and determines the structural materials and parameters of magnetic levitation ruler with the help of finite element analysis software. The simulation results show that the levitation force of the magnetic levitation ruler is proportional to the current passing through the levitation coils, and the thrust of the horizontal control coil is less disturbed by the magnetic field. Compared with the linear displacement measurement system with rotational servo motor or permanent magnet synchronous linear motor as the core, the magnetic levitation ruler has stable magnetic field, strong controllability, high integration, and is easier to achieve high-precision control. In response to the challenges in mobile robot path tracking using model predictive control, where the predictive model weakens the controller’s ability to respond to sudden changes in the reference path curvature and heading, this paper proposes a composite control strategy suitable for agricultural robots. The strategy combines the maximum torque per ampere control and an Extended State Observer (ESO). The paper initially establishes a mathematical model for a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) considering aggregated disturbances. It designs a position tracking controller based on a non-singular terminal sliding mode and convergence law. This controller, employing a non-cascaded structure, replaces traditional position and velocity loop controllers and is proven to be stable with finite-time convergence through Lyapunov’s theorem. To enhance the system’s disturbance rejection capabilities further, the paper introduces an ESO to estimate system disturbances and applies it for feedforward compensation. The paper concludes by providing stability proof for the overall PMSM servo system in agricultural robots. Finally, the paper conducts simulations and experimental verifications based on the designed controller, demonstrating that the controller exhibits excellent path tracking performance, fast convergence, and robustness against external disturbances. In several applications, the accuracy and robust performance of the control method for the speed of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) is critical. Model uncertainties, caused by inaccurate model identification, decrease the accuracy of PMSM control. To solve this problem, this paper presents a super robust control structure for the speed control of PMSMs. In the proposed method, the model uncertainties with Lipschitz condition together with disturbances are considered during the PMSM modeling, and their effects are handled using a robust state feedback control. To be more specific, the Lyapunov stability proof is performed in such a way that the model uncertainty effects are eliminated. Before that, the Lyapunov stability criteria have been selected in such a way that the Hꝏ conditions are considered and guaranteed. This issue helps to eliminate the effects of the disturbances. In addition, this paper considers another option to make the whole control structure robust against sudden load changes. To solve this problem, a fuzzy adaptive sliding mode observer (FASMO) is presented to determine the load torque and use it in the control signal generation. In this observer, the switched gain of the sliding mode observer (SMO) is adapted using a fuzzy system to eliminate the chattering phenomena and increase the estimation accuracy. In fact, the proposed method is called super robust because it resists model uncertainties, disturbances, and sudden load changes during three stages by robust state feedback control, Hꝏ criterion, and load estimator, respectively. High-speed interior permanent magnet (IPM) motors require highly reliable rotors. Some measures must be adopted to improve rotor safety, but its electromagnetic performance is seriously affected. It is a challenge to achieve excellent electromagnetic characteristics while satisfying mechanical strength. This paper presents an electromagnetic optimization design of high-speed IPM motors considering rotor stress. Firstly, the permanent magnet (PM) is segmented by adding stiffeners to improve stress distribution. The effects of the bridge and stiffener thickness on the rotor stress and electromagnetic performance are analyzed. Secondly, an electromagnetic optimization model is built based on a three-segment PM rotor structure, aiming for maximum efficiency and minimum rotor core losses. Then, the initial design and optimized scheme are compared, the results show that the efficiency, safety and temperature performance of the motor are improved. Finally, a 140 kW, 18,000 rpm prototype is manufactured and tested. The above analysis provides a valuable reference for the design and widespread application of high-speed IPM motors. To improve the accuracy of the sensorless control system for permanent magnet synchronous motors, this paper proposes the based on fractional order integral sliding mode theory in the model reference adaptive system observer. The purpose of this approach is to enhance the robustness of the system. Furthermore, this paper introduces the second-order sliding mode reaching law to suppress chattering phenomena and improve the control accuracy of the observer. This paper presents a review of the most common power converters and torque ripple minimisation approaches for switched reluctance motors (SRMs). Unlike conventional three-phase AC motors, namely squirrel cage induction motors and permanent magnet synchronous motors, which require a typical three-phase inverter for operation, the switched reluctance motor requires a different topology power converter for reliable and efficient operation. In addition, due to the non-linear, discrete nature of SRM torque production, torque ripple is severely pronounced, which is undesirable in servo applications like electric vehicles. Hence, deploying a proper torque control function for smooth and quiet motor operation is crucial. This paper sheds light over the most popular SRM power converters as well as torque ripple minimisation methods, and it suggests an optimal SRM drive topology for EV applications. There is not only thrust but also normal force between the primary and secondary components for the single‐side flat plate permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM). The normal force will fluctuate periodically, which will cause friction perturbation and finally affect the positioning accuracy of linear feed system. For the single‐side flat plate PMLSM, the variation law of normal force ripple under the coupling effect of multiple effects is studied, and the method of primary component segmental design to suppress it is proposed. Firstly, the influence of the cogging effect, the end effect and the armature reaction on the normal force ripple is analysed. Meanwhile the mathematical model of normal force ripple is established. Secondly, the PMLSM with segmental primary component is introduced and its suppression mechanism to the normal force ripple is expounded. On this basis, a scheme combining the non‐integer pole slot matching with the primary component segmental design is proposed to further suppress the normal force ripple. Finally, an 18‐slot 96/5‐pole prototype is taken as an example to carry out the finite element simulation and experimental test, of which the results verify the research theory in this paper. Sustainable development in the 21st century faces significant challenges due to finite reserves of fossil fuels and environmental pollution. In the context of new energy electric vehicles (NEEVs), the wide-bandgap semiconductor known as the silicon carbide-metal oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (SiC MOSFET) and the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) have emerged as advantageous sources. However, the use of these components gives rise to electromagnetic interference (EMI) issues, which impede the achievement of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards in the motor drive control system. This paper aims to elucidate the generation mechanism, propagation path, and test infrastructure of EMI. Furthermore, it proposes a system-level conducted EMI equivalent circuit model for the motor drive control system, encompassing the power battery pack, busbar cable, LISN, three-phase inverter, and PMSM. Building upon this foundation, the principles for suppressing and optimizing EMI noise are discussed. The paper concludes with the validation of simulations and experimental results, which demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. A sensorless control method of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) based on adaptive super-twisting algorithm sliding mode observer (STASMO) is proposed in this paper. The traditional sliding mode observer (SMO) algorithm has the problem of inherent high-frequency chattering due to the use of switching function. The phase delay will be caused by using low-pass filter to deal with the problem of high-frequency buffeting. In this paper, the chattering of the system is effectively suppressed by combining the super-twisting algorithm and the SMO algorithm. The chattering suppression ability of the algorithm is further improved by adding an adaptive coefficient associated with speed in front of the higher-order integral term of the observer. At the same time, the speed and rotor position information are extracted by normalized phase-locked loop (PLL), which avoids the use of low-pass filter and phase compensation module. In order to overcome the influence of the change of motor parameters on the control system, an online estimation method of motor parameters is proposed. The values of stator resistance and stator inductance are estimated online in real time, and the estimated values are fed back to the SMO, which improves the system performance and estimation accuracy. Through simulations and experiments, it is proved that the proposed algorithm can effectively suppress high-frequency chattering, effectively improve the estimation performance of PMSM sensorless control system, and obtain more accurate speed and rotor position information. At present, a large number of inefficient induction motors (IMs) are still being used in various industrial fields, resulting in a huge waste of energy. Obviously, it is expensive to replace all these machines with high-efficiency motors. Therefore, this paper will investigate the method of low-cost modification of inefficient IMs and propose a low-cost permanent magnetization remanufacturing (PMR) method that can make full use of the original structure of IMs. The PMR method converts the IM's rotor into a permanent magnet (PM) rotor by directly milling slots in the original rotor and embedding PMs, thus improving the efficiency of the original motor to meet the IE4 standard. Firstly, this paper proposes the PMR process of IM, and based on this process, a Y2-132M1-6 IM is designed for remanufacturing, and the performance of the motor before and after the PMR is compared through finite-element analysis. Then, this paper researches the factors that may affect the starting performance and rated performance of the motor in the PMR design. Finally, based on the PMR design scheme, the Y2-132M1-6 IM is remanufactured into an experimental prototype. In this paper, an inter-turn short-circuit fault of a permanent magnet synchronous motor in an electromechanical actuator is analyzed, and a fault diagnosis method based on transfer learning with a VGG16 convolution network is proposed. First, a 2D finite element model of an inter-turn short circuit fault of a permanent magnet synchronous motor was established in ANSOFT Maxwell, and then a simulation experiment analysis was completed. A three-phase current was chosen as a fault characteristic signal. Second, a fault diagnosis method with a VGG16 deep convolutional neural network and based on transfer learning was designed, and the fine tuning of the hyperparameters of the fault diagnosis model was completed by using grid search and cross verification methods. Finally, based on the transfer learning VGG16 model established in this paper, the inter-turn short circuit fault of a permanent magnetic synchronous machine (PMSM) was diagnosed and verified. The experimental results showed that the proposed convolutional network model based on transfer learning can identify faults effectively and accurately, and has a good engineering guidance significance. Fault diagnosis and fault tolerant (FT) control of electric drive systems have been extensively studied by many researchers. Naturally, one would like to use fault diagnosis information to improve FT control to achieve good post-fault performance while it is safe to do so. In this paper, a novel FT control method is proposed for permanent magnet synchronous motor with inter-turn short circuit fault. Given fault severity, the proposed FT control can reduce torque ripple while keeping reasonable torque output. This paper presents a Markov chain random carrier frequency modulation (MRCFM) technique for suppressing sideband vibro-acoustic responses caused by discontinuous pulse-width modulation (DPWM) in permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) for new energy vehicles. Firstly, the spectral and order distributions of the sideband current harmonics and radial electromagnetic forces introduced by DPWM are characterized and identified. Then, the principle and implementation method of three-state Markov chain random number generation are proposed, and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is chosen to quickly find the key parameters of transition probability and random gain. A Simulink and JMAG multi-physics field co-simulation model is built to simulate and predict the suppression effect of the MRCFM method on the sideband vibro-acoustic response. Finally, a 12-slot-10-pole PMSM test platform is built for experimental testing. The results show that the sideband current harmonics and vibro-acoustic response are effectively suppressed after the optimization of Markov chain algorithm. This paper deals with the application of the Model Predictive Control (MPC) algorithm to the sensorless control of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM). The proposed estimation strategy, based on the unscented Kalman filter (UKF), uses only the measurement of the motor current for the online estimation of speed, rotor position and load torque. Information about the system state is fed into the MPC algorithm. The results verify the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed sensorless control technique. To demonstrate its real-world applicability, implementation in low-speed direct drive astronomy telescope mount systems is investigated. The outcomes of the implementation are thoroughly examined, leading to insightful conclusions drawn from the observed results. Through rigorous theoretical analysis and extensive simulation studies, this paper establishes a solid foundation for the proposed sensorless control technique. The results obtained from simulation studies and real-world applications underscore the efficacy and versatility of the proposed approach, offering valuable insights for the advancement of sensorless control strategies in motor applications. In order to ease the structure and manufacturing process of the variable reluctance (VR) resolver, the three-phase symmetrical single-layer winding commonly used in the stator winding of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) is applied to the VR resolver in this paper. The proposed resolver has the same winding direction and number of turns on all teeth. And the non-overlapping distribution of the three-phase windings of the resolver is ensured. For this novel resolver, the resolver-to-digital conversion (RDC) method references the ultra-high-frequency (UHF) signal injection method used when a PMSM is powered off and restarted. Instead of the need for the orthogonal envelope RDC required by conventional resolvers, the absolute position of the rotor can be obtained. In this paper, the prototype of the proposed resolver and the peripheral circuits are fabricated and compared with the position detected by the optical encoder, and the validity of the proposed resolver and the accuracy of the RDC are verified by the results of the comparison experiments. An Improved Speed Loop (ISL) and Extended State Observer (ESO) strategy based on Model Predictive Control (MPC) of the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) is proposed in this paper. Firstly, considering the impact of load torque sudden changes on speed tracking performance, a reduced-order Luenberger observer is utilized to observe the load torque and combine with model prediction to form ISL. Secondly, the ESO is utilized to estimate the lumped disturbance and feedforward compensated to the improved speed loop, which improves the system's anti-interference performance. Then, a cost function that introduces the current tracking error at the switching point is constructed, reducing the current ripple. Finally, the experiments show that compared with the traditional PI speed control, the proposed strategy reduces the speed overshoot over a wide range of speeds, improves the speed tracking performance, and has superior dynamic performance and anti-disturbance performance under different operating conditions. Permanent magnet motors (PMMs) have emerged as key components in numerous industrial applications due to their high efficiency, compact size, and robust performance characteristics. However, to attain optimal performance in PMM drives, accurately predicting and mitigating core losses is paramount. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive review of advancements and methodologies for enhancing the performance of PMM drives by integrating equivalent circuit models (ECMs) that account for core losses. Firstly, the significance of core losses in motor drives is underscored, alongside a survey of research endeavors dedicated to core loss reduction. Notably, emphasis is placed on mathematical models offering both swift computation and reasonable accuracy. Subsequently, the paper delves into the development of ECMs, focusing on approaches adept at capturing core loss effects across diverse operating conditions. Moreover, this paper explores the utilization of these improved ECMs in the design and control of PMMs to achieve enhanced performance. By integrating core loss considerations into design and control strategies, PMM drives can optimize efficiency, torque production, and overall system performance. In summary, this paper may consolidate the current state-of-the-art techniques for enhancing PMM performance through the integration of core-loss-aware ECMs. It highlights key research directions and opportunities for further advancements in this critical area, aiming to foster the development of more efficient and reliable PMM-based systems for a wide range of industrial applications. Recently, due to the price fluctuation and supply instability of rare earth mineral resources, there has been a lot of development of electric motors using non-rare-earth permanent magnets. As a result, motors using Dy-free permanent magnets and ferrite permanent magnets are being researched, and, in particular, ferrite permanent magnets often utilize spoke-type structures, which are magnetic flux concentrators, to compensate for their low coercivity and residual flux density. However, in general, spoke-type PMSMs do not use much reluctance torque, so double-layer spoke-type PMSMs have been studied for their more efficient design. Unlike general spoke-type PMSMs, double-layer spoke-type PMSMs can utilize high reluctance torque by increasing the difference between d-axis and q-axis reluctance. However, as the difference in magnetic resistance increases, vibration and noise are generated, which adversely affects the mechanical part and shortens the life of the motor. Although this problem seemed to be solved by applying core skew in the previous study, it was confirmed that the axial force caused by the axial leakage flux occurred in the maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) control section and the torque ripple was increased. Therefore, in this paper, a model that can apply symmetrical core skew and reduce axial force is proposed. First, the causes of the axial force generated in previous studies were analyzed. In this paper, we propose a novel method to estimate the electrical angular ve- locity, the electrical angle, and the currents of the permanent magnet synchronous motor. A recurrent neural network learning algorithm is first developed to estimate the states of the permanent magnet synchronous motor. Then, an event-triggered state observer is designed for the recurrent neural network. This state observer robustly estimates state variables of the permanent magnet synchronous motor. A sufficient condition in terms of a convex optimization problem for the existence of the event-triggered state observer is established. In contrast with the abundance of state estimation methods based on time-triggered state observers where the measurements are always continuously available, the ones in this paper are updated when an event-triggered condition holds. Therefore, it lessens the stress on communication resources while can still maintain an estimation performance. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the merit of the proposed method. In order to reduce the cogging torque of a symmetrical V-type line-start permanent magnet synchronous (LSPMS) motor, this paper proposes a multi-objective optimization method based on the combination of design parameter stratification and response surface methodology (RSM). The optimal solution to the RSM model is acquired using the max–min ant algorithm. The permanent magnet width, pole opening angle, stator slot width, rotor axial length, and rotor tooth width are selected as optimization variables. The cogging torque and average torque are the optimization objectives. Finite element method (FEM) results show that the cogging torque is reduced by 71.5%, the torque ripple is reduced by 65.6%, and the average torque is improved by 12%. In order to fully utilize the control degrees of freedom of a multi-three-phase-star smooth-pole permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), this paper first develops a modeling approach using a new matrix transformation method. The proposed transformation produces decoupled and independent star windings, removing the inductive couplings and preserving the model and torque control's consistency as the number of phases increases. The model, together with a new vector control scheme, is superior for studying the effect of the winding phase angle shift on motor performance. Based on a numerical simulation, this paper focuses on the quality analysis of phase currents, non-sequential currents, and torque ripple with different phase angles for double- and triple-star PMSM drives. The direct-drive type high-torque-density motor is one of the most promising solutions of electric propulsion for aircraft. The cogging torque of the direct-drive motor causes torque ripple, vibration, and noise, which seriously affect the stability and reliability of the electric propulsion system for aircraft. In this paper, a novel direct-drive type high-torque-density dual-rotor radial flux permanent magnet synchronous motor (DRPMSM) is proposed, and its cogging torque is weakened by permanent magnet shape design and pole-arc coefficient combination. An eccentric and chamfered permanent magnet shape is proposed, and the influence of eccentric distance and chamfer angle on cogging torque is clarified. Through the pole-arc coefficient combination design of the inner and outer rotors of the DRPMSM, the cogging torques of the inner and outer rotor are phase reversed, thus further reducing the total cogging torque of the DRPMSM. By employing the response surface method, a mathematical model is established for the cogging torque of the DRPMSM in relation to the pole-arc coefficients, chamfer angle, and eccentric distance of the permanent magnets. The parameters that minimize the cogging torque of the DRPMSM are obtained using a genetic algorithm. A prototype is manufactured according to the optimized parameters, and experimental results validate the correctness of the theoretical analysis and the effectiveness of the optimization design method. The contactless transmission between the conductor rotor and the permanent magnet (PM) rotor of an adjustable permanent magnet coupler (APMC) provides the device with significant tolerance for alignment errors, making the performance estimation complicated and inaccurate. The first proposal of an edge coefficient in this paper helps to describe the edge effect with better accuracy. Accurate equivalent magnetic circuit (EMC) models of the APMC are established for each region. Models of magnetic flux, magnetic resistance, and eddy current density are established by defining the equivalent dimensional parameters of the eddy current circuit. Furthermore, the concept of magnetic inductance is proposed for the first time, parameterizing eddy currents that are difficult to describe with physical models and achieving the modeling of the dynamic eddy current circuit. The magnetic resistance is subdivided into two parts corresponding to the output and slip according to the power relationship. Furthermore, eddy current loss and dynamic torque models are further derived. The method proposed in this paper enables the APMC to be modeled and calculated in a completely new way. The correctness and accuracy of the model have been fully demonstrated using finite element simulation and an experimental prototype. The rotor loss of rare earth permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) affects the efficiency and reliability of the motor and is an important research direction of rare earth permanent magnet synchronous motors. In this paper, the influence of rotational speed on the loss of the rotor core and the permanent magnet is analyzed through the analysis of the motor magnetic field and rotor loss calculation. Specifically, with the increase in rotational speed, the weak magnetic current increases, the amplitude of flux density change in the rotor core decreases, and the loss of the rotor core also decreases. The greater the influence of the harmonic current magnetic field on the outside of the rotor, the greater the loss. The core loss on the rotor is mainly distributed on the outside of the rotor. For further engineering applications, this paper analyzes the loss composition of three kinds of motors with different rotor structures and judges the optimal scheme based on the minimum loss. Finally, the correctness of this research is verified by comparing the experimental and simulation results of two kinds of motors with different rotor structures. In order to improve the position high-precision synchronization performance of multi-motor synchronous control, a multi-motor position synchronization control method based on non-singular fast terminal sliding mode control (NFTSMC) combined with an improved deviation coupling control structure (Improved Deviation Coupling Control(IDCC), NFTSMC+IDCC). Firstly, this paper designs a sliding mode controller using a non-singular fast terminal sliding mode surface with a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) as the control object. Secondly, the deviation coupling is improved to enhance the coupling between multiple motors and achieve position synchronization. Finally, the simulation results show that the total error of multi-motor position synchronization under NFTSMC control is 0.553r in the simulation of multi-motor synchronization control under the same working conditions, which is 2.873r and 1.772r less than that of SMC and FTSMC in terms of speed error, and the anti-disturbance performance is 83.68% and 76.22% higher than that of both of them, respectively. In the subsequent simulation of the improved multi-motor position synchronization structure, the total error of the multi-motor position is in the range of 0.56r-0.58r at three speeds, which is much smaller than the synchronization error under the Ring Coupling Control (RCC) structure and Deviation Coupling Control (DCC) structure, showing a better The synchronization error is much smaller than that of the RCC structure and DCC structure, which shows better position synchronization performance. Therefore, the multi-motor position synchronization control method proposed in this paper has a good position synchronization effect and achieves the control effect of small displacement error and fast convergence of the multi-motor position synchronization control system after being disturbed, the control performance is significantly improved. The traditional electromagnetic–thermal bidirectional coupling model (EMTBCM) of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) requires a long time to solve, and the temperature-induced torque change is not accounted for in the finite element (FE) numerical calculation of the EM field. This paper presents a precise and efficient EMTBC reduced-order solution model. The specific methods are as follows: First, a torque control technology based on the current injection method is proposed for determining the effect of temperature on the properties of EM materials and EM torque in an EM field, and the accuracy of the FE numerical calculation model is improved. Second, we use the improved EM field finite element numerical calculation model (FEMNCM) to analyze the correlation between the EM loss, the temperature, and the load, and we replace the FEMNCM with the EM field reduction model using the least-squares method. Then, we analyze the law of the PMSM's internal temperature distribution. We choose the GA-BP algorithm with as few samples as possible and a high accuracy and stability to build the regression prediction model of the temperature field. We use this regression prediction model to replace the complex temperature field calculation. After analyzing the EMTBCM solution strategy, the original complex EMTBC numerical calculation model is substituted with iterations of the magnetic field reduction model and the temperature field regression prediction model. The FE numerical calculation is then used to validate the reduced-order model. The proposed model is validated through numerical simulations. At present, the induction motor (IM), synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM), ferrite-assisted synchronous reluctance motor (ferrite-assisted SynRM) and interior permanent magnet motor (IPM) are research hotspots, but comprehensive comparative research on the four motors is still rare. This paper mainly compares the four motors from the aspects of electromagnetic performance, material cost and temperature distribution. Firstly, the volume of the four motors is ensured to be the same. The influence of the rotor design parameters of the SynRM, ferrite-assisted SynRM and IPM on the electromagnetic properties of the machine is analyzed. Secondly, based on the effects of each parameter, the overall design parameters of the four motors are determined. The electromagnetic performance, material cost and temperature of the four motors are compared and discussed. Finally, the comparison results are summarized, and the advantages of the four motors are analyzed. This paper presents a comprehensive investigation of the optimal design of an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) for electric vehicles (EVs), utilizing the hybrid artificial bee colony algorithm–support vector machine (HAS) algorithm. The performance of the drive motor is a crucial determinant of the overall vehicle performance, particularly in EVs that rely solely on a motor for propulsion. In this context, interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs) offer a compelling choice due to their high torque density, wide speed range, superior efficiency, and robustness. However, accurate analysis of the nonlinear characteristics of IPMSMs necessitates finite element analysis, which can be time-consuming. Therefore, research into methods for deriving an optimal model with minimal computation is of significant importance. The HAS is a powerful multimodal optimization technique that is capable of exploring several optimal solutions. It enhances the navigation capability by combining the artificial bee colony algorithm (ABC) with the kernel support vector machine (KSVM). Specifically, the algorithm improves the search ability by optimizing the movement of bees in each region generated by the KSVM. Furthermore, hybridization with the Nelder–Mead method ensures accurate and quick convergence at pointers discovered in the ABC. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, this study compared its performance with a conventional algorithm in two mathematical test functions, verifying its remarkable performance. Finally, the HAS algorithm was applied to the optimal design of the IPMSM for EVs. The traditional radial flux PMSM and axial flux PMSM have an effective air gap on only one side, between the stator and rotor, and only the effective air gap generates electromagnetic torque. There are defects in the magnetic-field utilization, and it is difficult to improve the torque density. Therefore, this paper proposes an axial–radial-flux permanent-magnet synchronous motor (ARF-PMSM), which combines radial flux with axial flux, to be used in an elevator-traction machine-drive motor. The characteristics of the ARF-PMSM are that the stator core is made of a soft magnetic composite material and the winding is annular. The motor has three effective air gaps, which can achieve high torque density without increasing the overall dimensions. In this paper, the mechanical structure and operation mechanism of the ARF-PMSM are introduced, and the characteristics of its magnetic circuit structure are analyzed by using the equivalent magnetic circuit method. The torque characteristics and other electromagnetic characteristics of the ARF-PMSM, the traditional surface-mounted PMSM, and the spoke-type PMSM are compared and analyzed using the finite element method. The research results show that the proposed motor has high torque density, which provides a new design idea in the form of a high-torque-density PMSM for use in elevator-traction machines. This paper delves into a comprehensive study of a wide-speed-range sensorless control approach for surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motors (SPMSMs). In the low-speed range, a novel high-frequency pulse voltage injection (HFPVI) method is introduced for rotor position estimation, which does not depend on motor saliency and is well-suited for SPMSMs. This method incorporates a second-order generalized integrator (SOGI) and a new modulation signal to enhance the accuracy of rotor position estimation. For medium-to-high speeds, an improved super-twisting sliding mode observer (STSMO) utilizing a continuous hyperbolic tangent function is proposed to mitigate chattering. Additionally, a new phase-locked loop (NPLL) is introduced to accurately obtain the rotor position. Furthermore, this paper designs an exponential weighted switching function to facilitate a smooth transition of the motor from the low-speed domain to the medium- and high-speed domains. The effectiveness and superiority of the proposed methods are validated through simulations and experiments conducted on an RTU-BOX platform. The rotor position estimation errors of the proposed new HFPVI method and the improved STSMO method under various operating conditions are both approximately 0.05 rad (2.8 elc·deg), and the SPMSM can switch smoothly from the low-speed range to the medium- and high-speed ranges. Targeting the problems of traditional particle swarm algorithm easily falling into local optimum and low recognition accuracy, an adaptive learning co-evolutionary variational particle swarm optimization algorithm (ALCEVPSO) is proposed in this paper to identify the parameters of permanent magnet synchronous wind generator (PMSWG). At first, an adaptive learning strategy is adopted for the inertia weights of the PSO, and the global optimization seeking ability of the PSO is improved. After that, multiple swarm co-evolution strategies are introduced to share the best positions within sub-populations, and by this method, the algorithm’s falling into local optimality is avoided. Finally, Cauchy Gaussian mixed variants are introduced, and the population diversity is enriched. The proposed method has the advantages of strong optimization ability and high search accuracy compared with the traditional particle swarm algorithm, which is shown by simulated and experimental results. The characteristics of nonlinear and strong coupling of a bearingless permanent magnet synchronous motor (BPMSM) greatly affect the improvement of its control performance. In the traditional decoupling control of least squares support vector machine (LSSVM) inverse system, the kernel function parameter σ and regularization parameter c are determined according to the empirical value, but not the nonoptimal value, so large error exists in the decoupling control. Therefore, this paper proposes a decoupling control method of LSSVM inverse system based on improved grey wolf optimization algorithm (IGWO). Firstly, the working principle of the BPMSM is described, and the mathematical model is derived. Secondly, the reversibility of the BPMSM is analyzed, and the σ and c of LSSVM are optimized by IGWO, before establishing a generalized inverse system for decoupling control. Thirdly, the simulation tests of the speed regulation and anti-interference are carried out, which show that the decoupling performance of the proposed method is better than the traditional LSSVM inverse system method. Finally, the dynamic experiments, static experiments, and anti-interference experiments are carried out. This study aims to achieve the co-optimization of thrust force and thrust fluctuation using a long secondary double-sided linear flux switching permanent magnet motor (LSDLFSPM). Firstly, the motor model is constructed and derived using a theoretical approach. Subsequently, the motor parameters are subjected to sensitivity analysis using the Taguchi method to identify the significant influencing factors. Based on the screening results, the Response Surface Method (RSM) is employed to construct the test space and derive regression equations for thrust force and thrust fluctuation. The Multi-Objective Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm (MOGOA) is then utilized to iteratively optimize the regression equation for optimal parameter sizes. This paper investigates the efficiency optimization problem in the drive system of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) based on the iron loss resistance model. Initially, an efficiency calculation method is proposed, utilizing the direct current (DC) side power based on the iron loss motor model as the input power. This approach determines the system's input power by measuring DC side voltage and current, accounting for the impacts of temperature, magnetic saturation, and inverter nonlinearity. It avoids the need for intricate nonlinear loss modeling of the inverter, thereby simplifying the computational requirements for system efficiency. Simultaneously, the d-q axis equivalent equations based on the iron loss motor model are employed to calculate the system's output power, enhancing the accuracy of the system efficiency calculation. An improved discrete gradient descent algorithm is presented based on this system efficiency calculation model, accelerating the search for the optimal current angle and improving its accuracy. In comparison to existing methods, this approach exhibits adaptive step size and provides more precise and higher efficiency calculations, resulting in faster search speeds. In this review article, we focus on the relationship between permanent magnets and the electric motor, as this relationship has not been covered in a review paper before. With the increasing focus on battery research, other parts of the electric system have been neglected. To make electrification a smooth transition, as has been promised by governing bodies, we need to understand and improve the electric motor and its main component, the magnet. Today's review papers cover only the engineering perspective of the electric motor or the material-science perspective of the magnetic material, but not both together, which is a crucial part of understanding the needs of electric-motor design and the possibilities that a magnet can give them. We review the road that leads to today's state-of-the-art in electric motors and magnet design and give possible future roads to tackle the obstacles ahead and reach the goals of a fully electric transportation system. With new technologies now available, like additive manufacturing and artificial intelligence, electric motor designers have not yet exploited the possibilities the new freedom of design brings. New out-of-the-box designs will have to emerge to realize the full potential of the new technology. We also focus on the rare-earth crisis and how future price fluctuations can be avoided. Repetitive control (RC) has been widely used in many fields due to its excellent ability to suppress periodic disturbances. However, when the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) operates at variable speeds, the speed loop sampling frequency is usually not equal to an integer multiple of the fundamental frequency of speed ripple, which prevents disturbances from being completely suppressed. In addition, the open-loop gain of the motor control system with RC is too large at certain frequencies, resulting in excessive speed overshoot during startup and loading. To solve these two problems, this paper proposes a fractional order repetitive control (FORC) strategy with dynamically adjustable gain. A fractional order delay link is introduced to make up for the shortcomings of the conventional repetitive controller (CRC) in its ability to suppress periodic speed ripples when the sampling frequency is not an integer multiple of the fundamental frequency of the motor. Then, to weaken the speed overshoot caused by RC, a nonlinear function fal(e,α,δ) is added in the front of the FORC to dynamically adjust the FORC gain. In this paper, a pole-changing (PC) flux reversal permanent magnet (FRPM) motor is proposed for obtaining a wide speed range. According to the general air-gap field modulation theory, the permanent magnet (PM) magnetic field is modulated into a series of harmonics with different pole numbers by rotor teeth. By introducing an especial PM arrangement, two groups of working harmonics with different pole-pair numbers are generated in the proposed 12-7 PC-FRPM motor due to the modulation of rotor teeth. Based on the calculated slot pitch angles of these harmonics, two winding connections can be obtained for PC operation to achieve two operating modes. Accurate temperature prediction is vital for the canned permanent magnet synchronous motor (CPMSM) used in the vacuum pump, as it experiences severe heating. In this paper, a novel motor temperature calculation method is proposed, which takes into account the temperature impact on the heat transfer capacity. In contrast to existing electromagnetic-thermal coupled calculation methods, which solely address the temperature effect on the motor electromagnetic field, the proposed method comprehensively considers its impact on motor losses, permanent magnet magnetic properties, thermal conductivity, and heat dissipation ability of motor components, resulting in a motor temperature simulation that closely resembles the actual physical process. To verify the reliability of the proposed temperature calculation method, a 1.5 kW CPMSM was chosen as the research subject. The method was used to analyze the temperature distribution characteristics of the motor and assess the impact of ambient temperature on motor temperature rise. Furthermore, a prototype was fabricated, and an experimental platform was established to test the motor temperature. The results demonstrate good agreement between the calculated results obtained using the proposed method and the experimental data. This research not only provides a theoretical foundation for optimizing the design of the CPMSM but also provides valuable insights into its operational safety and reliability. The chain drive system represents a critical subsystem within the scraper conveyor. This paper proposes a joint simulation model for the drive system of the scraper conveyor, driven by the permanent magnet synchronous motor, in order to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the dynamic characteristics of the chain drive system during the operational process. Firstly, the dynamic simulation model for the mining scraper conveyor's chain drive system was established in ADAMS, taking into account its structural characteristics. Then, the mathematical model of the permanent magnet synchronous motor was established using the coordinate transformation theory, and the speed controller based on vector control was designed by using the theory related to sliding mode control. The coupling relationship between the chain drive system of the scraper conveyor and the permanent magnet synchronous motor drive system was investigated. Finally, a joint simulation model of the mechanical system and motor control system was created using ADAMS (View 2019) and MATLAB/Simulink (2020a). The dynamic characteristics of the chain drive system were analyzed, and the three typical working conditions of no load, half load, and rated load were considered. The results show that the contact force between the flat ring and the sprocket undergoes an initial increase, followed by a decrease, and finally another increase. As the load increases from no load to full load, there is a marked increase in the contact force between the loaded side chainrings. Due to the polygon effect, both the speed curve of the permanent magnet drive motor and the contact force curve between the ring chains exhibit periodic fluctuations. To tackle the slow response and insufficient interference resistance exhibited by permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) under traditional field-oriented control (FOC). This paper proposes an integral sliding mode controller (SMC) to improve the speed loop, and adaptive law is also developed using a nonlinear smooth function to eliminate the chattering phenomenon of the sliding mode control. Meanwhile, an extended state observer is designed to estimate and compensate for the disturbances caused by wind speed uncertainty and system's internal disturbances. Then, model predictive control (MPC) is employed for the current loop to eliminate the overshoot and achieve fast tracking. Finally, a step-by-step model reference adaptive scheme (MRAS) is proposed to identify the parameters and eliminate the internal disturbances in addressing parameter perturbation in the motor during operation. The simulation results demonstrate that the enhanced system exhibits almost no overshoot, superior steady-state performance, quick dynamic response, and resistance to both internal and external disturbances, ultimately validating the efficacy of the approach. To address the problem of traditional speed loop controllers being unable to achieve rapid system convergence in the face of complex external operating conditions, this paper designs a new nonsingular fast terminal sliding mode control algorithm (NNFTSMC) for PMSM with a super twisting sliding mode perturbation observer (STSMO). Firstly, the mathematical models of PMSM for ideal case and parametric composite uptake are established. Secondly, a new non-singular fast terminal sliding mode control surface (NNFTSM) is proposed to design the PMSM speed-loop controller, which is also paired with the STSMO to observe the total system perturbation in real time and compensate the perturbation to the speed-loop NNFTSMC controller to form a new composite controller of NNFTSMC+STSMO.
