Universities are a formative scenario that transforms reality and their actions must go beyond commitment and citizen solidarity. The objective of this review article is to present a study on the conceptualization, definition and education in values, and an analysis of the theoretical-methodological referents of University Social Responsibility. Systematic literature review and bibliometric analyses were carried out in the programs VOSviewer version 1.6.19 and Connected Papers. The results show that strengthening the sense of identity and belonging of the competent professional committed to academic, economic, social and environmental actions, with respect to the place where he/she studies, lives and works, is fundamental to achieve transformations in order to improve the quality of citizenship education. In conclusion, it is necessary to continue stimulating the apprehension of the value of university social responsibility in higher education institutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The shore line is the limit that separates the public water domain from the property of individuals, the criterion for its delimitation is stated by law, both in Argentina and in other countries of the world. But its practical analysis remains a matter of current discussion. In this paper, a geomorphological interpretation of the established criterion is proposed as well as a methodology for its delimitation. To achieve this, different international, national, provincial and papers on shore line works were analyzed, which allowed to establish a criterion adjusted to the natural form of the channel and to cartographically define the shore line by using products of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). If the waterfront is delimited on the basis of natural facts, its indubitable mark on the ground will be close to what actually belongs to the public water domain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article reports the results of the systematization of the experience named My ideas in three minutes, an activity implemented in the Maternal School course of the Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education at Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga, Colombia. The One minute paper technique was used to encourage students to reflect on their future role as teachers, by composing texts containing the analysis of their experiences and practices. Those documents were collected and analyzed, using Nvivo program, based on the following categories: identity as teachers and conceptual appropriation. However, during the process, some categories emerged, such as, appreciations about the educational system and others related to writing. The conclusions point out the potential of this technique for a reflexive exercise to be carried out in an agile way; besides, it promotes in the students the habit of constantly questioning themselves, making it possible for them to be more self-critical. FORCED migration , *DIFFERENTIATION (Sociology) , *MINORS , *POSSIBILITY , *GENOCIDE - Abstract
After the subjugation operated by the military campaigns of 1878-1885, the native population of northern Patagonia (Mapuche-tehuelche) suffered forced relocation, the breakdown of socio-political and family units, the erasure of the identity of hundreds of minors and the declamation of the extinction of the indigenous cultural and social world. From this genocidal process, the agency of indigenous individuals and collectives was conditioned within the framework of the construction of a new society that was defined as "without Indians". From then on, this became a condition for their possibilities of accessing land, as well as a principle of stigmatization and social differentiation. This paper focuses in addressing a particular instance of the agency of this population: the National Aboriginal Association. This organization stood out for its self-recognition as aboriginal and for its supra-community, trans-territorial and national structure. The ANA was active in a key period defining a political strategy that defended the indigenous producer, encouraged processes of communalization and articulation of the agency of the original peoples with other political actors, both in northern Patagonia and in the national context. INSTITUTIONAL care of children , *EMOTIONAL experience , *MEDICAL prescriptions , *MOTHERHOOD , *PSYCHIATRIC hospitals - Abstract
This paper aims to address some consequences of immigration in relation to the exercise of motherhood between 1900 and 1930 in Buenos Aires. Through a case study we explore the experiences of a migrant mother who decided, under particular circumstances, to place her children in children's homes. Far from being an exception, this case expresses the experiences of other women who were diagnosed with various mental illnesses in which a deviation in "affectivity" and behavior towards the family nucleus with emphasis on the children appears as a symptom. Through the interweaving of sources that include medical records of the Asilo de Alienadas de Lomas de Zamora and files of minors of the Sociedad de Beneficencia, this article proposes to account for both the emotional prescriptions within the medical discourse in relation to the exercise of motherhood, as well as the emotional experiences of women who went through the path of medicalization and confinement. In the children's files it is possible to trace evidence of their experiences but also the agency, the motivations and the meaning of motherhood and care that a mother deployed in a context of vulnerability produced by migration. In this paper we analyse the expectations regarding university studies and career choice of first-generation university students and graduates. Our interest in this particular population is due to the fact that they are atypical cases. The theoretical perspective is the relationship with knowledge and dispositionalist and contextualist sociology. The methodology is qualitative and we used in-depth interviews with a sample of 35 students from three degree courses at the National University of La Plata. The families and the school experience were central in the construction of expectations, while the choice of career was defined on the basis of the transit through secondary school, in the university experience itself as well as in other non-school environments. TRANSGENDER people , *GAY men , *POLICE brutality , *PHYSICIANS , *MODERNIZATION (Social science) , *HOMOSEXUALITY - Abstract
The emergence of gay pride politics in Argentina takes places in the 1960s and 1970s in the context of the tensions between medical and criminological discourses on homosexuality, which respectively proposed that homosexuality was an immorality that should be criminally punished or an illness that could be treated. The conclusion is that, faced with an increase in police violence, maricas, gay men and transgender people tactically appropriated medical discourses, identifying themselves as sick and allying with medical doctors in their attempts to decriminalize sexual inversion. Then, in the context of the climate of cultural modernization, they would use the pretensions of scientific objectivity of medicine to demand the de-pathologization of homosexuality, abandoning the discourse of victimization, narrating their experiences as joyful, and mobilizing their base through the category of pride. The paper is based on the historiographic analysis of an extensive corpus of mass-circulation press, political organizations' material, medical treatises and first-person documents. This paper intends to analyze an episode in the life of Ignatian cult objects that had been used to house churches and schools of the order in the River Plate territory. Our protagonists will be images and objects of worship that once had a special significance due to their centrality in composing the liturgy and their proximity to the sacred. Despite their heterogeneity, all these objects, made of rich metals, had formed a River Plate Jesuitical material culture that had exalted the identity of the order. From a perspective focused on material culture, we will analyze how, once the process of managing temporalities began, these objects traveled an unsuspected path that altered their biographies, their symbolic meanings, and their valuations as sacred goods. From then on, desacralized and defunctionalized, these pieces went through processes of embargoes, commodification and disputes over their possession until their subsequent disappearance. Recomposing these paths will allow us to demonstrate the importance that these objects had in composing worship and liturgy followed by historical processes that led to one of the largest looting and diasporas of artistic heritage in the 18th century within the framework of its growing desecration. This paper analyzes the experiences of participation in the strike carried out by students of Unit 071 of the National Pedagogical University of Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, Mexico. From a reflective approach, the historical memory of the process is recovered from documentary analysis, records of assemblies and marches, as well interviews with students and leaders of the movement. The information was grouped into two blocks: From the pandemic to the student strike. Subjectivation and existential plot; in which the vicissitudes of organization and actions carried out are exposed; and, The word must be worth, which discusses the network of actions, synergies, meetings and disagreements between students to undertake negotiations with educational and governmental authorities. The confluence of other social movements, the mobilization and taking of the streets, contributed to the strike's resolution, which inaugurated an unprecedented experience of struggle and resistance for these students. Starting from a question about the "diasporic" position of certain authors of cultural criticism in Latin America, always halfway between academic affiliation and a kind of fractious position regarding their increasingly bureaucratized practices of knowledge administration, this paper proposes a reading of three representative texts by the Brazilian-Argentine critic Raul Antelo: Crítica acéfala, Archifilologías latinoamericanas. Lecturas tras el agotamiento and A ruinologia. These strange and problematic texts seem to be articulated from a position that not only (post)critically revises the foundations of more conventional criticism, but also moves toward the behavior of the most radical bids of artistic conceptualism; in other words, in them criticism becomes an act: intervention. And therein lies its forceful emergence in the framework of contemporary literary and cultural studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper shares the first reflections of an agroecology experience carried out by women - rural and urban-from the department of Valle Viejo, Catamarca, who became food producers in the context of the pandemic. The turning point was the arrival of the Rural Women Program in 2020, through which many women joined it, learning how to work the land and new paradigms linked to agroecology; firstly, out of necessity, then as a possible option. As social researchers, we are interested in analyzing that particular spatial and historical experience that does not admit copying from another. In this case, women force us to enrich existing theoretical corpus on agroecology from a situated experience that has little to do with what has already been written. Finally, the contribution that we will share comes from an ongoing research, and it is intended to show the multifactoriality of the space that occupies us, the dialogues emerged and the possibilities of carrying out a collaborative work in the production of new knowledge. The agribusiness model involved the expansion of crops and the application of a technological package that has generated the use of millions of liters of agrochemicals, which exposes rural populations to simultaneous or sequenced exposure to products, which seriously affect health and the environment. These externalities are reflected in the bodyterritory of women who inhabit and/or transit rural spaces, and suffer from daily land dispossession, labor exploitation and deterioration of their health as a result of the drift of agrochemicals. In this paper I intend to make visible the struggle of women, teachers, who gave birth to the Federal Network of Teachers for Life in San Andrés de Giles (Buenos Aires province) in 2017; an environmental group that denounces these problems, promotes actions to protect the environment and the rights of students and rural families. The methodology includes the analysis of journalistic sources, fieldwork and the development of semi-structured interviews in the territory of San Andrés de Giles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Orphic studies specialists have recently been fortunate due to Giulia Rossetto's discovery of an unknown hexameter text within a palimpsest, which had Arabic script on its surface. This text stands out for its artificial literary language, typical of the epic tradition, and the presence of direct speech. Its archaic style is characterized by the reuse of Homeric formulas and echoes phrases from various texts, such as the Rhapsodies, Nonnus' Dionysiaca, and the Orphic Hymns (Rossetto, 2021). The intertextual links between the Sinai hexameters and these texts, especially the direction of their influence, are yet to be established. This paper will detail the codex's condition, describe the text's material features, summarize its content, and explore the academic discussion it has ignited. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

TORTURE , *WAR on Terrorism, 2001-2009 , *EXCEPTIONALISM (Political science) , *MIND & body , *NECESSITY (Philosophy) , *AMBIVALENCE , *AMERICAN exceptionalism , *SOCIAL marginality , *KINSHIP - Abstract
This paper examines the affective, emotional, and ideological questions raised by the practice of evidentiary torture (basanos) as necessity (anangkê). It proposes that competing ideas about its truth-value in Athenian forensic oratory reflect a degree of ambivalence sufficient to indicate that the Athenians (can) recognize the inherent unreliability of the slave's tormented body and mind to reveal the truth. In Prometheus Bound, the torture of Prometheus is dramatized as brutal coercion by Zeus' authoritarian state and set against the 'coercion' exercised by the bonds of kinship and emotional attachment. As such it engenders unbending anger on both sides and fails to coerce Prometheus to speak. The juxtaposition of the two genres establishes the unreliability of torture for extracting information along with a recognition that the criteria of exclusion for rendering bodies torturable are arbitrary, as are the rights they help maintain in the interest of Athenian exceptionalism. Fully embracing these recognitions would necessitate a new politics of care and fundamental reorganization of the civic community to expand 'kinship' and the bonds that compel mutual recognition and political inclusion. The paper closes by turning to the use of torture by the CIA in the context of the American war on terror to elucidate the persistence of discourses of necessity in contemporary politics of righteous anger and brings forth similar misrecognitions in the interest of American exceptionalism. This study is an exploratory review about teaching practices at Argentinean public universities published between 2010 and 2019. The sample was constituted by 20 papers. The methodology was qualitative based on content analysis in three axes: work methodology, teaching practices description and characterization of the public university. The results showed a predominance of qualitative methodology, in particular of narrative approach. The aim of studies was teaching practices themselves in most of the papers, followed by directly related issues and, finally, in a few papers teaching practices were part of the aim of the study. Almost all of the papers collected data on public universities, but only a small number included the analysis of the university context in their studies. The results are discussed based on the particularities of university education in the local context. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper studies the mechanization of agriculture in the rural regions of the Rio de la Plata during the First Globalization (1880-1916). Uruguay and Argentina developed an important growth and diversification of their agricultural production during this period. This growth accompanied the great livestock dynamism that both economies had achieved since the first decades of the 19th century. We analyze the process by dispensing national approaches. A geo-referenced database is constructed at a micro-regional level to identify the location of the main agricultural production areas and to trace their evolution throughout the period. A clustering analysis is also carried out to explore the spatial heterogeneity that characterized the River Plate agriculture and provide elements for its interpretation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The forms in which Environmental Education (EE) is included in the curriculum are a long-standing concern in the Latin American didactic field. In this paper we analyse the current curricular designs for the Basic Secondary School in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Although in hierarchically superior regulations (Provincial Education Law and General Framework of Curricular Policy), EE is based on critical and ethnographic perspectives, it has an uneven transversal presence in the curricular designs. Some subjects present an empty EE curriculum, while others show fragmentary and contradictory perspectives. Only in Social Sciences, Geography and Citizenship Building is there a critical and ethnographic vision, linked to contemporary environmental conflicts. From Geography we recovered the experiential dimension and the enjoyment of the environment as a contribution to the pedagogies of environmental conflict and to the ongoing implementation the new national EE regulations. The problems linked to the training trajectories of those who enter the university are not limited to social issues, personal history or the mere transition between levels, but have strong institutional conditioning factors. This paper questions the devices that national universities have designed to regulate access to the level. The objective is to present a mapping of these devices in the national universities in Argentina built from a comparative perspective. A survey of institutional regulations was carried out, as well as information available on the official website of the institutions. After the construction of a systematized data matrix, trends are identified from a cross-sectional reading of the constructed map. There is a high presence of regulatory devices for admission in national universities, with variable characteristics regarding their mode of organization, curricular components, duration and planned evaluation methodology. The research covered several dimensions related to the transformations in daily and school life, produced by the measures of isolation and preventive and compulsory social distancing. In this paper, we will focus on those repercussions linked to the subjective from the perspective of adults when they talk about their children. In this sense, we share interpretations from a virtual survey carried out by 1280 families from different parts of the national territory, administered in the middle of 2021. At the same time, descriptive references to schooling in households are offered and relationships are articulated to work on the psychosocial effects that the emergency measures imposed, modifying family, school, social, and labour daily life. The qualitative analysis of the open-ended responses is made from a sociopsychogenetic perspective, allowing articulation of subjective, social, and cognitive aspects interpreted from a historical and relational perspective. The article addresses the role of tourist movement in defining Salta (Argentina) as a tourist place. To achieve that goal, specific practices of displacement by tourists who hire guided tours were observed. As a preliminary study, the paper discusses traditional approaches to guided tours as highly standardized and prescribed experiences. Likewise, it highlights the active participation of the different actors taking part in these tours. In a broader sense, the paper aims at contributing to the understanding of tourist places considering tourist movement and to acknowledge the practices that shape it. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper compares two anti-modern readings of Plato and the Platonic tradition, both complementary and opposite, that of Joseph de Maistre (1753-1821) and that of Joris-Karl Huysmans (1848-1907). These appropriations, which respectively open and closes the nineteenth century, express the rise and decline of the "romantic Platonism." De Maistre quotes, comments on, translates and rewrites Plato's dialogues, as well as various texts from the ancient Neoplatonism and the modern Platonic tradition. On the other hand, Huysmans's texts, particularly À rebours (1884), the most representative novel of decadent aesthetics, express the crisis of romantic Platonism, as shown by its nihilism, the figure of the simulacrum and the modification of the androgynous topic. Thus, Platonism and its crisis explore historical temporality, from revolutionary acceleration to fin-de-siècle decadence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper we try to analyze some recent and ongoing changes that are taking place in the Uruguayan higher education system. Based on a system historically conditioned by the presence of a single public university, we try to briefly review the changes at this educational level in recent years, hand in hand with different national governments. In a regional scenario of increasing privatization from which Uruguay was apparently on the sidelines at times, we examine the characteristics of some changes that are taking place now and may constitute advances in a certain wave of privatization. We use contributions from the educational field, higher education and public policies and we conclude the text problematizing how novel these changes are and their possible impact given certain national characteristics. In this paper we address the methodology and some results of an applied research project aimed at revalorization of Maya language (maayat'aan); most of the participants are students, whose families have interrupted the Maya language transmission. We draw on the premises of a reflexive workshop and the methodology of personal networks, which enable the family memory reconstruction, autobiographical work, and the creation of intersubjective bonds between peers. We present the cases of three participants that allow to observe three particular processes, through which the language revalorization occurs on the subjective level. On the intersubjective level, sharing stories, feelings, and ideas allows to transit "from solitary individual existence to community social existence" (Kaplún, 1988, p. 60). This is manifested in the creation, by the project participants, of a juvenile group that fosters the Maya language. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

At the end of the 50s, Franz Fanon asks about the binding relationship between certain phenomena of power, identity, gender and resistance, and their forms of simplification/manipulation for the transmission of coloniality. Taking his "Unveiling" political category as a theoretical loan, this paper will try to offer some readings regarding Schools, and the ways they operate, understand and manage diverse and diversity as well. The 50th anniversary of the creation of the National Institute of Statistics and Census (1968-2018) is a first-rate chance of rethinking the ways in which official data have contributed to the conformation of national state in Argentina during the 20th Century. Hence, this paper reconstructs the case of a centralised statistical bureaucracy that produced the necessary information to make a planning for the "Nueva Argentina." Thus, this presents the both bureaucratic and institutional trajectories of three government agents who managed national census bodies: Accountant Juan Miguel Vaccaro (1944-1945), Engineer Enrique Catarineu Grau (1946-1949) and Lawyer José María Rivera (1950-1955). The paper wants to study three different management styles as a way of thinking statistical agencies in Argentina, between 1944 and 1955, analysing the relationships between specialised bureaucracy and their military and political mentors. The Movimiento Nacionalista Tacuara was the most relevant organisation of the nationalist right in the 1960s in Argentina. Its members defended radical nationalism and developed an anti-leftist and anti-Semitic repertoire of action. In addition, they formed a hybrid ideological corpus, which fused local elements with others from Europe. Interwar fascisms were fundamental in this process. In this paper, I address the appropriations of Falangism made by the Tacuara activism. In general, the existing studies about Tacuara recognize the centrality of Falangism, corporatism and the notions of 'National Syndicalist State' and 'hispanidad'. However, the appropriations they made of these elements and the way in which they were re-signified in the light of local contexts have not yet been tackled. To shed light on the circulation of ideas between Argentina and Spain, I adopt a transnational perspective. I use as sources various Tacuara and Guardia Restauradora Nacionalista bulletins, reports produced by the intelligence services of the province of Buenos Aires, and oral history interviews conducted with former activists. In this paper we present our reflections from the development of a postgraduate course on teaching practices at the university, in which the contributions of the attending teachers evidenced the essential articulation of didactics with other fields of knowledge, in order to understand the problems that teaching raises in the present. Issues such as the relationship of teaching with technology, with the ways of learning of young people, affectivity as a component of teaching, attention to diversity and the working conditions of teachers are presented as topics recurring, which although they are not new, have acquired other connotations that make them more complex. This made us think in the sense of considering a "didactics from or towards the edges", focusing on the contributions of those other fields to this discipline that offer greater richness to the analysis of teaching. This paper results from the intersection of two research projects devoted to teacher education processes at a University in Argentina. It wonders about the role of unpaid teaching assistants, specifically in the English Teaching Education Program, in order to explore the value that pre-service teachers recognize in those experiences. Framed under qualitative research and influenced by narrative inquiry, the methodological design includes two recursive steps with focus groups, document analysis, and autoethnographic records. This study uses the resulting polyphony to produce contents that not only narrate the virtues of inhabiting intermediate spaces but also point in the direction of mentorship and guided practice as fruitful instances in the construction of the teacher self in these contexts. The present study emerges from the need to study the factors that influenced the conformation of the role and media representation of the new or modern first ladies in Chile, especially Rosa Markmann -who held the position between 1946 and 1952-. In this investigation, the trans-Andean Eva Perón (Argentine first lady between 1945 and 1952) emerges as a key figure. Although Rosa and Evita did not know each other personally, we believe that the flow of press and ideas between the two countries may have influenced, or at least encouraged in some way, the Chilean first lady becoming a pioneer in terms of new characteristics that he gave to the role. In this paper we analyze three examples that aim to illustrate the idea raised as they reflect coincidences in their actions, however in all three cases, Eva was a pioneer and had great media coverage: in the field of social assistance, the two changed the traditional role of the first ladies in their respective countries, taking a step from charity towards a broad and organized social action policy; in the political field they coincided in their struggle to obtain the feminine vote; and in the field of international relations, they made trips abroad that were not without controversy and that reflect the global political tensions of the moment. Finally, we conclude that to study the role, its characteristics and mutations, not only should a look be taken at national factors, but it is always important to look at possible foreign influences since countries are and have always been part of the political, economic and world culture. The aim of this paper is to analyze the female images and representations outlined in "Mi niñez", an autobiography by the Salta artist Carmen Rosa San Miguel de Aranda. We will account for the values that the writer attributes to the women in her narrative and the relationship of this moral repertoire with the context of production of her work. We start from the premise that this life story contributes to the definition of the writer's identity, while highlighting the agreements and tensions between the latter and the canonized female models that constituted the Salta culture of the early twentieth century. The aim of this paper is to reconstruct the social reproduction strategies of a horticulturist family from Bolivia in the Santa Rosa-Toay metropolitan area. A particular territoriality is present in a context where obstacles, opportunities, global processes and local singularities coexist for the development of this productive and domestic unit that seeks to obtain capital (conceptually classified by Pierre Bourdieu as economic, cultural, social and symbolic). At the same time, the social practices analyzed have characteristics of family farming and demonstrate their potential to contribute to the achievement of food sovereignty. Likewise, the peri-urban area selected in the center of Argentina, an edge space subjected to significant transformations caused by the capitalist system, also has its correlation in the adopted strategies. In this way, the spacetime aspect includes the Santa Rosa-Toay metropolitan area, between the years 2002 and 2022. The qualitative methodology is chosen for its interpretative nature of the complex social world. In addition, dialogues are established between various theoretical contributions, what is observed and information from in-depth interviews, cartography, news, documentaries and data from governmental agencies. The study of the distribution of species is increasingly more necessary to understand the extinction of mega mammals that occurred during the late Pleistocene and early Holocene periods. Spatial analysis procedures, such as cartographic modelling and multicriteria evaluation techniques, allow for the finding of spatial correspondences between geographic, environmental, faunal and human variables, to investigate the causes of these losses. From a conceptual approach, this paper analyses the characteristics of the interdisciplinary approach between Geography and Palaeontology, the role of spatial models in scientific realism, rationalist causality processes, and the possibilities of quantitative techniques in systemic spatial analysis, taking the case of the ground sloth Scelidotherium leptocephalum (Mylodontidae, Xenarthra). It concludes with a proposal for cartographic modelling as a logical construction of application in which the spatial dimension takes a central place of inquiry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Agricultural activity increases productivity and profitability while increasing environmental costs. However, if the sustainability of ecosystems is altered, they will become degraded systems and will eventually stop providing services. This insufficiency will generate a reduction in the inherent capacity of ecosystems to sustain not only economic activity but also other human activities. The aim of this paper is to assess the incidence of agriculturization on the provision of ecosystem services in the Environmental Units of Tandil, for the periods 1989-2004 and 2004-2019. Sustainability indicators adapted from the AgroEcoIndex Software were used to determine which are the landscape areas where the application of criteria related to environmental management is crucial. In particular, the state of provision of biodiversity conservation services and the quality of soil and water is assessed. The indicators used show a worsening in the provision of these services by 29% and 11.48% accordingly in the period under study. It is essential to determine priority conservation areas, to incorporate good agricultural practices and to diversify control techniques beyond exclusively chemical control. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In Argentina, after the 2001 crisis, there was high economic growth, which resulted, among other improvements, in a significant decrease in the proportion of poor households in the 2001-2010 intercensal period - measured by the indicator of unsatisfied basic needs (UBN). The aim of this paper is to analyze the incidence of UBN on different types of households - using the variable "household types", composed of thirteen household types - as well as the changes in the relative share of each household type during the sharp decline in UBN between the 2001 and 2010 census years. To account for spatial inequality in the concentration of households and poverty in the territory, the variables are disaggregated at the provincial level and by districts/departments/communes. The results obtained show the importance of considering changes in the composition of household types in the analysis of the incidence of poverty. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CONSERVATION of natural resources , *ETHNOBOTANY , *VERNACULAR architecture , *PLANT conservation , *PLANT species , *NATURAL resources - Abstract
The use of natural resources in the highland region of Jujuy province, Argentina, is highly represented in various activities and practices. In this context, plant species have great relevance and roles in vernacular architectures and evidence a whole cultural conception, ways of connecting with the environment and exploitation logics. This paper aims at reflecting upon public policies related to the conservation of plant species in the Quebrada and Jujuy Puna. To achieve this, the role of plants in local constructive culture was characterized and state policies that have regulated these resources over time were reviewed. The ethnobotany classic methodology was used, with an intensive field work and ethnographic approach. Results show that the articulation of local and state criteria are the two necessary elements to guarantee the conservation of natural resources and the continuity of practices associated with them. It is necessary to reformulate the current regulations, which are restrictive and marginalizing of local traditions, and issue new regulations that control sustainable use respecting and promoting the traditional practices that characterize the region, in particular those related to the constructive culture. Greater San Miguel de Tucumán (GSMT) is an intermediate city in the province of Tucumán, which is fragmented, with informal settlements that are affected by exclusion, stigmatization and marginalization. This context deepens their conditions of vulnerability and prevents them from participating in the processes of production of the hegemonic discourses that circulate throughout them. Thus, this paper aims at analyzing the symbolic boundaries that constitute a key role to understand the modalities operating when setting and sustaining inequality conditions, paying as much attention as when analyzing material aspects. To this end, the Diagonal Norte neighborhood is taken as a case study, which is considered a slum located in the municipality of Yerba Buena, where private neighborhoods are mostly placed. On the one hand, the purpose is to systematize and analyze news publications where the neighborhood is mentioned and, on the other hand, to carry out interviews to neighbors. The data obtained allow us to point out different modalities in the construction of social representations about the neighborhood and the circulation of different discourses, according to the relationship they have with the logics of sustaining or transforming inequality conditions. In fragment 44 of On Truth, Antiphon seriously criticizes the law and the Athenian judicial practice as a means that promotes hatred and the commission of injustices. As a result, a large number of scholars consider that he rejects the value of legal institutions. Based on a review of Antiphon's thought, this paper aims to analyze the possibility that conflict resolution institutions may be beneficial rather than having a completely negative meaning linked to hatred and injustice. Two passages in Curtius Rufus' Historiae can be read within the context of a tradition in Roman historiography of including speeches by foreign enemies to voice critical views of Roman imperialism. In this paper, Darius' pre-battle speech at Gaugamela (4.14.9-26) and the Scythian ambassador's speech before Alexander (7.8.12-30) will be analyzed to show that behind an apparent rebuke of Alexander the Great emerges a strong criticism of Rome's imperial expansion. Most of the literature about Revista Moderna (1898-1903) and Revista Moderna de México (1903-1911) assumes that both publications integrate a single editorial project because of its affiliation with the Latin American modernism, particularly with that of the second generation, which presented a more decadent aspect. Although some scholars have noted the differences between the two formats, the petit revue and the North American styled magazine, the truth is that Revista Moderna de México has been reviewed in very similar terms to its predecessor, that is, as a literary, elitist and minority magazine, representative of a group with a specific literary positioning. In this paper, I will examine some of the devices that the editors of Revista Moderna de México used to articulate this transformation not only of format, but also of discursive positioning, mediated by the political and publishing market conditions from that time. This study pretends to draw attention to the set of negotiations and resistance that some agents of the literary field carried out through their professionalization process and their search for an alleged autonomy regarding other recognition figures during the transition from the 19th century to the 20th century. The major histocompatibility complex (MHC) in chickens (Gallus gallus) is located on the 16th micro chromosome, of the avian genome. As in other species, it has a strong association with genetic resistance to diseases. This multigenic feature is particularly desired for the selection of this species, in particular because of its relationship with animal welfare. In the last decade the Vaca Muerta area has been renowned, as a logistics epicenter in Añelo that is located 100 kms from Neuquén Capital. The volume of gas and oil reservoirs in the area puts feminist studies in the region on alert regarding the segregations that activity entails in the bodies of women who are directly affected by the impacts of hydrocarbon activity. In this sense, it is intended to make visible the claims that they carry out and account for some conditions. This paper aims to analyze certain disagreements between the productivist notion of business development that concentrates the extraction of hydrocarbons and the social demands around better conditions of urbanity or transfer in Añelo. There are poor living conditions, ignorance of pre-existing indigenous peoples and few environmental precautions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent years, the Metropolitan Area of Mendoza (MAM) is among the Argentine cities that have grown the most in relation to its population increase. Different research works on this topic area agree on pointing out that over the last three decades the Great Mendoza area has shown an extensive and dispersed urban growth pattern which is producing a marked process of spatial fragmentation. This work aims at analyzing the spatial production modalities that explain the expansion of the MAM during the period 1990-2020, trying to reflect on the social processes related to them and the challenges that these changes imply for the study of the new ways of inhabiting the urban space. To this end, the first part presents an analysis of the mutations in the peri-urban landscape of Gran Mendoza, secondly there is a further analysis over the changes in the built environment in its central area. Thirdly, there is a review of the political and social factors that have been relevant for the current dynamism of the city. Finally, the paper presents the questions and analytical dilemmas facing the urban research regarding the approach to the different life fields that unfold through the metropolitan space of Mendoza. The community-based modality is consolidating as a way of organizing tourism in rural areas, although its conceptualization and implementation is diverse. The State has a relevant role in the promotion, planning and extension of tour-ism in a territory. For this reason, we are interested in analyzing how the notions of community tourism are constructed -and regulated- from public policies based on regulatory frameworks. Thus, this paper analyzes the course of the institutionalization of community tourism in Argentina based on its existing national and provincial legislation. As a result, we observe a diversity of ways to define rural tourism and the participation of communities based on what is meant by rural tourism and which sectors of the communities are involved. The energy transition process is reflected in the transformation of landscapes. The progressive incorporation of increasingly more modern energy technologies opens debates in European countries related to their landscape integration and the social perception. In Argentina, the energy landscapes have not been relevant enough as to be a subject of analysis in the academic field. Based on the lack of antecedents, this exploratory paper aims at considering the landscape as a geographical analysis category about the past and present use of wind energy. The objective is to study the patrimonial worthiness and the socio-environmental challenges, as the result of the transformation of the landscapes, by the materialization of the energy transition. To achieve this, it applies a qualitative methodology and different space-time analysis scales. The work reconstructs the heritage legacy of the wind from old low-power facilities for milling, water pumping and electricity production that are revalued by society. It also makes a preliminary analysis of the emerging wind landscapes after the start-up of large wind farms in certain regions of the country. The new landscapes created by the installation of wind turbines produce very diverse reactions in communities, ranging from acceptance to social rejection, including neutrality or indifference. The importance of the 'affective turn' in classical studies is well acknowledged, as it can be perceived through the many interdisciplinary works that have been published in the area during these last decades. Taking into account the challenges and difficulties involving the historical analysis of feelings, this paper intends to account for the contributions that have been made in the last years on the study of emotions in Antiquity. By specially focusing on classical Greece, we seek to offer a wide theoretical framework that could be useful for those willing to embark in this promising field of academic research. The study of paralinguistics, i.e. the ways of communicating without the use of language, whether conscious, intentional and voluntary or otherwise, is an essential component of any attempt to reconstruct, understand and interpret the systems of cultural, societal, institutional, moral and inter-personal communication in modern and ancient societies. Three specific aspects of paralinguistics, as they are described in Attic oratory, are examined in this paper: face and facial organs (such as mouth and nose), hands, and gait. It is argued that the references to paralinguistics aim to win over the audience in the lawcourt or in political conventions by arousing emotions and by sustaining a war between the speaker's opponents and the Athenian community, whose cultural values and beliefs the opponents are presented as violating. EPIC poetry , *SYMPATHY , *COMPASSION , *EMOTIONS , *EMPATHY , *GRIEF , *POETICS - Abstract
This paper explores aspects of what I shall call pity or compassion in Homer (especially Iliad 24) and Aristotle (especially the Rhetoric), but nothing very much hangs on the precise terminology. The phenomena covered by terms such as "compassion", "sympathy", "empathy", and "pity" (and their analogues, where they exist, in other languages) constitute a family in which resemblances are often really rather close in practice (even if particular members of the group pass in and out of fashion and take on a range of different connotations at different periods and in different contexts). In concentrating on the theory and practice of literature, I am not offering a synthetic account of ancient Greek pity; instead I focus, in the main, on just two authors, Homer and Aristotle, and proceed primarily by means of a confrontation between the representation of pity in the final book of the Iliad and the theorization of that emotion in Aristotle's Rhetoric and Poetics. I begin with Homer, but immediately bring the Homeric narrative into relation with Aristotle's account of pity in the Rhetoric. This will lead to some thoughts on the nature of pity and compassion in Homer in general, before we return to the contrast between Homer and Aristotle (with emphasis on the Poetics), a contrast that is in some ways underscored by certain differences between Aristotle and Plato on the emotional effects of epic and tragic poetry. A particular focus will be Aristotle's linkage of pity with the kind of thing that one would fear were it likely to happen to oneself, by contrast with the connection in Homer and Plato between pity for others and the experience of grief, both one's own and that of others.
