- Abstract
This book offers clear, detailed guidance on all aspects of prognostic evaluation in patients who have been involved in a serious accident with neurological consequences or have been diagnosed with a severe neurological illness. It covers the full range of disorders of the central and the peripheral nervous system, not only providing very accurate prognostic estimates but also addressing relevant clinical issues, differential diagnosis, and the role of imaging. The book is practically oriented and designed for use on a daily basis when assessing prognosis and discussing the outcome with patients, their families, and other interested parties. It will support patient–doctor partnerships by ensuring that the most professional answers can be given to patients'and doctors'questions and by promoting realistic expectations of the effect of medical interventions. In addition, it will enable doctors, lawyers, and other professionals to understand relevant issues when an estimate of prognosisand life expectancy is the subject of legal dispute.

- Abstract
Fifty shades of noir: Nazi sadists, occult killers, and underground BDSM bars are all part of a paranormal investigator's job description When Dr. Owen Orient is asked to investigate a young man's sudden disappearance, he reluctantly agrees. What begins as a missing-person case quickly morphs into murder, and before long, Orient is thrust into an international manhunt that takes him from Manhattan's S&M underground to the heart of Egypt's Great Pyramid of Giza. After years of dedicated study in Tibet, Dr. Orient has honed his telepathic skills to become a formidable psychic investigator. But he finds himself the target of a powerful Nazi cult and becomes involved with a beautiful woman whose concept of sexual loyalty is slippery at best. With the help of his assistant, Sordi, Dr. Orient faces hostile cops, psycho Nazis wielding massive occult powers, and a hot war in Egypt in a case that races from drug and sex parties at a fabulous Hamptons mansion to the secrets of the ancient world. But will this adventure of a lifetime steal his soul?

- Abstract
From Tangiers to the Vatican, Dr. Orient breaks deep cover to track an ancient evil After skipping the country to escape a crazed voodoo killer, Dr. Orient finds himself in exile in Tangiers—and still on the run from the CIA, which wants to use his psychic abilities against mankind. Low on money, he agrees to act as the interpreter for Maya Rand, a beautiful art expert who takes him to an archaeological site in Marrakech reputed to be the tomb of Imhotep. Within days, Orient is under occult attack and involved in a murder. On the run again, it's up to him to break a hieroglyphic code and prevent an ancient curse from rising once again. In The Seth Papers, Dr. Orient's adventure takes him from Tangiers to Casablanca to Rome, where he uncovers an unholy plot to sacrifice the Pope and unleash hell on the Vatican.

- Abstract
A black magic commune operating out of a storefront in New York's East Village... A high-fashion model's terrifyingly bizarre death in a luxury Manhattan apartment... A dignified doctor whose magnificent traveling companions are young women afflicted with a strange, terminal blood disease... When Doctor Owen Orient, a prominent New York physician, decided to renounce his practice and all the material comforts he had become accustomed to, his goal was to find a simpler, more meaningful existence for himself. But Orient was not like ordinary men. For years, he had been studying the secrets of the Occult and, though he sought simplicity now, found himself drawn more and more deeply into a horrifying series of events that challenged his scientific rationality, his occult powers, and the instincts and emotions that guided his manhood. The puzzle that began in a Manhattan black magic commune, eventually drew Orient to Tangier, Marrakech, and Rome, to a confrontation with an ancient ravening evil—a battle in which telepathy, telekinesis, and even sex become weapons in a frenzied struggle to the death—and beyond...

- Abstract
With unprecedented use of local and national sources, Lauria-Santiago presents a more complex portrait of El Salvador than has ever been ventured before. Using thoroughly researched regional case studies, Lauria-Santiago uncovers an astonishing variety of patterns in land use, labor, and the organization of production. He finds a diverse, commercially active peasantry that was deeply involved with local and national networks of power. An Agrarian Republic challenges the accepted vision of Central America in the nineteenth century and critiques the'liberal oligarchic hegemony'model of El Salvador. Detailed discussions of Ladino victories and successful Indian resistance give a perspective on Ladinization that does not rely on a polarized understanding of ethnic identity.

- Abstract
Clusters of workstations/PCs connected by o?-the-shelf networks have become popular as a platform for cost-e?ective parallel computing. Hardware and so- ware technological advances have made this network-based parallel computing platform feasible. A large number of research groups from academia and industry are working to enhance the capabilities of such a platform, thereby improving its cost-e?ectiveness and usability. These developments are facilitating the mig- tion of many existing applications as well as the development of new applications on this platform. Continuing in the tradition of the two previously successful workshops, this 3rd Workshop on Communication, Architecture and Applications for Netwo- based Parallel Computing (CANPC'99) has brought together researchers and practitioners working in architecture, system software, applications and perf- mance evaluation to discuss state-of-the-art solutions for network-based parallel computing systems. This workshop has become an excellent forum for timely dissemination of ideas and healthy interaction on topics at the cutting edge in cluster computing technology. Each submitted paper underwent a rigorous review process, and was assigned to at least 3 reviewers, including at least 2 program committee members. Each paper received at least 2 reviews, most received 3 and some even had 4 reviews.

- Abstract
During the 1980s, El Salvador's violent civil war captured the world's attention. In the years since, the country has undergone dramatic changes. Landscapes of Struggle offers a broad, interdisciplinary assessment of El Salvador from the late nineteenth century to the present, focusing on the ways local politics have shaped the development of the nation. Proceeding chronologically, these essays-by historians, political scientists, sociologists, and anthropologists-explore the political, social, and cultural dynamics governing the Salvadoran experience, including the crucial roles of land, the military, and ethnicity; the effects of the civil war; and recent transformations, such as the growth of a large Salvadoran diaspora in the United States. Taken together, they provide a fully realized portrait of El Salvador's troublesome past, transformative present, and uncertain future.

Now Lauria is determined to regain the trust of the Alashi, and, with the help of her blood-sister Tamar, liberate those she once returned to captivity. - Abstract
From the acclaimed author of Fires of the Faithful comes the tale of an impetuous young woman, freeborn in a world of slavery and magic. Twenty-year-old Lauria is the favorite aide to Kyros, a powerful military officer. On his authority, she is messenger, observer, and spy. But now she is entrusted with a mission more dangerous than any that have come before....After years of relative peace, word has come to Kyros's compound that the bandit tribe known as the Alashi is planning an offensive. It is up to Lauria to infiltrate the Alashi by posing as an escaped slave—a charge that requires she serve in the household of a neighboring officer. From there, she will stage an escape and continue on in her guise as a runaway. But posing as a slave—a virgin concubine, no less—may prove the least of her troubles. For even if she does escape and the Alashi do accept her, how can this freeborn woman convince them she is slave, not spy? And, worse, what if her own views are gradually changing, calling everything she believes about her world into question?

“There is, in the best of us, a search for the truth, to serve the living and dead alike...Jax Miller is one of those people and Hell in the Heartland is one of those books.”—Robert Graysmith, New York Times bestselling author of ZodiacAs seen in Marie Claire's'Best True Crime Books of 2020'• HuffPost • OK! Magazine • CrimeReads • LitHub's'Best New Summer Books'S-Town meets I'll Be Gone in the Dark in this stranger-than-fiction cold case from rural Oklahoma that has stumped authorities for two decades, concerning the disappearance of two teenage girls and the much larger mystery of murder, possible police cover-up, and an unimaginable truth...On December 30, 1999, in rural Oklahoma, sixteen-year-old Ashley Freeman and her best friend, Lauria Bible, were having a sleepover. The next morning, the Freeman family trailer was in flames and both girls were missing. While rumors of drug debts, revenge, and police corruption abounded in the years that followed, the case remained unsolved and the girls were never found. In 2015, crime writer Jax Miller--who had been haunted by the case--decided to travel to Oklahoma to find out what really happened on that winter night in 1999, and why the story was still simmering more than fifteen years later. What she found was more than she could have ever bargained for: evidence of jaw-dropping levels of police negligence, entire communities ravaged by methamphetamine addiction, and a series of interconnected murders with an ominously familiar pattern. These forgotten towns were wild, lawless, and home to some very dark secrets.

- Abstract
Comical, offbeat, poignant, and fresh, The Best Plays of 2014 presents six of the most original plays of the year in a single volume – selected by renowned editor Lawrence Harbison.• The Country House, a comedy about a deeply dramatic family, by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Donald Margulies.• Dinner with the Boys, an offbeat, dark comedy by Dan Lauria about some old-time wise guys who want to have a good Italian meal and a few laughs – and tie up some loose ends before dessert.• Mala Hierba by Tanya Saracho, inspired by Latin American culture, which pits human yearnings against the power of culturally predetermined obligations.• Based on real events, Our Lady of Kibeho by Katori Hall was hailed as the “most important new play of the year!” by Terry Teachout of The Wall Street Journal.• When January Feels Like Summer by Cori Thomas presents five lives colliding as a feeling of change hums in the air during one strangely warm winter in Central Harlem.• Year of the Rooster (New York Times Critics'Pick) by Eric Dufault a fiercely comic play about cockfighting, connections, and clawing your way to the top.
