The article focuses on the possible utilization of mass spectrometry (MS) in understanding fossilomics to establish how extinct and ancient species developed over millions of years. It cites an experiment of an older dinosaur fossil using MS approach wherein strict controls were employed to prevent and detect contamination. The result of the experiment suggests that dinosaurs and birds are closely related and offer evidence that collagen can be identified in an 80-million-year-old fossils.
