This article focuses on the co-production of the short film "Sweet and Sour," by the Shanghai Animation Film Studio and the People's Republic of Animation (PRA) formed by Australian writer-director Eddie White. PRA is composed of young filmmakers based in Adelaide. The film is about a dog discovering the China's culture through exploration of Chinatown in an imaginary Western city.

The article reviews the motion picture "Wrong Side of the Road," directed by Ned Lander and starring rock bands Us Mob and No Fixed Address.

The article focuses on the Yunnan New Film Project produced by Lola Zhang. Zhang drew 10 young female directors from a range of creative fields and brought them to Yunnan Province, China to direct 10 films. Two of the Yunnan films mentioned were "The Case (Xiangzi)" by documentary filmmaker Wang Fen, which is a tale of repressed small town desires, and "The Park (Gongyuan)" by writer Yin Lichuan, which is a tale of parent-child alienation and generational conflict.

The article features Song Zhiyong and a group of fellow farmers whose story became an inspiration to people across China. It states while others were enjoying the Chinese New Year, these people journeyed from their village of Dong Balipu in Yutian County to Hebei Province in China to assist with relief efforts in the country's snow-bound south. The title "Outstanding Volunteer "on Song Zhiyong and "Excellent Volunteers" on Zhiyong's fellow farmers were bestowed by China's Red Cross.

The article features Australian director Brian Wallace of the Red Gate Gallery in Beijing, China. He moved to Beijing in the 1980s where he befriended many artists. They started to hold exhibitions, parties and cocktails for the exhibition's openings. The Red Gate opened in July 1991 with exhibitions from 5 Chinese artists when he made his first sale and opened its second branch in Beijing's "798" in December 2005. The Red Gate Gallery's survival is attributed to the quality of Chinese work and to Brian's commitment.

The author talks about China's progress over the last 30 years to 2008. According to him, the country has changed beyond recognition and the quality of lives of most Chinese people has improved dramatically. He suggests that this development has made the country disconnected from its recent past and believes that this could lead to the ideals of the earlier era being lost.
