For the second time in four months, prison guards foiled an attempt to smuggle a cellphone into a prison by carrier pigeon, the authorities said Friday. A pigeon wearing a makeshift backpack was intercepted just outside the walls of the Danilo Pinheiro prison near the city of Sorocaba, according to the Sao Paulo State Prison Affairs Department.
