The article profiles a seminar class on drawing at Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City. Professor Sue Ferguson Gussow teaches an advanced drawing seminar that combines aspects of critique, art-history instruction, and group therapy. Architecture students in the course choose to draw subjects in detail and study the process of drawing. The author suggests that Gussow expects hard work from students but the class environment is casual. Other topics include freehand drawing, the influence of color, the language of drawing, and academic reputation.
