Abstract

The article presents information about French artist Louis de Carmontelle and discusses his artistic styles and themes. Born in 1717 in France, Carmontelle imbued himself in the French society of the times and his drawings bear an impression of the same. He was famous for his transparent drawings for which he used water color, gouache, and a special gum. He also wrote art criticism, staged plays, and did portrait painting.
