Political information plays an increasingly prominent role in the media, who dedicate considerable extension and time to it on a regular basis for years. Government news become an issue of interest to citizens, consumers of this and other information. To do this, the media select and rank what is most newsworthy, even beyond what happens outside the borders of each nation. A clear example of this is the US Presidential Elections 2020, with wide media coverage worldwide. This research analyzes the informative treatment of these elections, that managed to place the US and the two presidential candidates, Donald Trump and Joe Biden, in the world epicenter, and, especially, in the international media, as is the case with the Spanish media. Specifically, we want to know how the coverage of this event has been on the front pages of the Spanish national press. Therefore, through the methodology of content analysis, in its quantitative and qualitative aspects, we analyze these pages in the main general information newspapers. What is the opinion held by the European press on the U.S. election campaign and the candidates running for president? What are the predominant issues that attract the attention of European print media? Does Europe detest Donald Trump? The objective of the present study is to analyze the perception European commentators had of the 2020 race for the White House. The media, the audience, and European governments were captivated more than ever before by how the U.S. election campaign unfolded, fixing their gaze on the contest between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Through a combined quantitative and qualitative methodology, a combination of content analysis and the application of framing theory (hitherto scarcely applied to opinion pieces), our research centers on exploring the views, opinions, and analyses published in eight leading newspapers from four European countries (France, Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom) as expressed in their editorials and opinion articles. This study observes how the televised presidential debates were commented on, interpreted, and assessed by commentators from the eight newspapers we selected. In this article, we trace shifting representations of a US-Mexico border region in national mainstream news media during the rise of Donald Trump. We argue that the border is an American concept-metaphor that circulates and reshapes in media in response to political actors. We compare articles published in 2015, 2016, and 2017 about the Texas borderlands where the majority of Central American asylum seekers arrived. Crucial to Trump's success, the narrow, racialized rendering of the border inadvertently provoked a wider array of representations in national news media but remained rooted in how Americans think about Others, sovereignty, and immigration. Our work contributes to scholarship that connects discursive regimes and statecraft with life in borderlands to lay bare underlying social tensions and potential violence. Analysis of concept-metaphors can open spaces for new articulations of key cultural domains and interrogate hidden assumptions about places, crucial during times of surging populism and nationalism. How populists engage with media of various types, and are treated by those media, are questions of international interest. In the United States, Donald Trump stands out for both his populism-inflected campaign style and his success at attracting media attention. This article examines how interactions between candidate communications, social media, partisan media, and news media combined to shape attention to Trump, Clinton, Cruz, and Sanders during the 2015–2016 American presidential primary elections. We identify six major components of the American media system and measure candidates' efforts to gain attention from them. Our results demonstrate that social media activity, in the form of retweets of candidate posts, provided a significant boost to news media coverage of Trump, but no comparable boost for other candidates. Furthermore, Trump tweeted more at times when he had recently garnered less of a relative advantage in news attention, suggesting he strategically used Twitter to trigger coverage. The purpose of this study was to compare the agenda-building influence of President Trump and CEOs in communicating about a number of political and social issues. Through a content analysis of the president's (N = 63) and business leaders' (N = 234) information subsidies and news coverage (N = 270), evidence was found repeatedly supporting the president's first, second, and third levels of agenda-building influence on news media content. In comparison, CEOs' agenda-building influence was found at the first and third levels, and this influence was not consistent across issues. Furthermore, an argument was made in light of the study's findings that direct communication by business leaders generally had a more significant impact on the media agenda than indirect messages from other organizational actors such as their companies or corporate spokespeople. Previous research has shown the importance of Donald Trump's Twitter activity, and that of his Twitter following, in spreading his message during the primary and general election campaigns of 2015–2016. However, we know little about how the publics who followed Trump and amplified his messages took shape. We take this case as an opportunity to theorize and test questions about the assembly of what we call "attentive publics" in social media. We situate our study in the context of current discussions of audience formation, attention flow, and hybridity in the United States' political media system. From this we derive propositions concerning how attentive publics aggregate around a particular object, in this case Trump himself, which we test using time series modeling. We also present an exploration of the possible role of automated accounts in these processes. On 8 November 2016, Donald Trump was elected President of the United States. During his campaign, Trump put on display long held sexist, racist, and bigoted views on women; people of color; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning/queer, intersex peoples, and Others. Media coverage in the U.S. and around the world was not limited to news cycles intended for adult audiences only. Scholastic News Kids Press Corps, a free online publication for and 'by kids' ages 10 to 14, joined the conversation in 2015. This article shares analysis of Scholastic News Kids Press Corps ' coverage of Trump's campaign, theorized through a critical, women of color feminist lens. Major themes that emerged include teaching children how to be unbiased reporters; the importance of being part of the political process and voting; social and policy issues; and Trump's disposition/sexism. While news content broached issues from varying perspectives, it often stopped short of providing critical reflections and historical context of the issues being reported. Possibilities are discussed for expanding how news media for and by children can be conceptualized, in addition to how educators can engage in critical media literacy with children across multiple age groups, including the early years. This thematic analysis of 510 news articles – spanning the leftist-rightist ideological spectrum – examines media rhetoric surrounding President Trump's 27 January 2017 Executive Order (EO) 13769 barring immigrants and refugees from U.S. resettlement. In this article, I examine how both liberal and conservative news media rhetoric reinforce respectability politics that create a hierarchy of victimhood for those affected by the EO. Interrogating U.S. civil society's discursive construction of the forced migrant, I expose expectations for appropriate roles for these communities seeking asylum, though these roles are often veiled by normative U.S. mythology. As this analysis illustrates, the news media articles' discursive erasure of Syrian, Iranian, Sudanese, Iraqi, Libyan, Somali, and Yemeni immigrants and refugees elide forced migrant self-representation and neglect the political/historical reasons for fleeing from their nations of origin. Based on the theories of media frames and their application to discourse analysis, the objective of this study is to identify the discursive strategies of American newspapers in the coverage of the 2016 primary elections. A large corpus of more than 3,000 articles published in six national papers between January and March 2016 is analysed using the textual statistical tools Iramuteq and TXM. Several semi-automated operations, based on lexical co-occurrence (notably hierarchical descendant classification and factorial analysis) enable a re-construction of semantic cues, revealing ideological postures, argumentative strategies and thematic disparities between the different newspapers. In the paper, we address the subjective interpretation schemes inherent to the way each media outlet presents the different candidates depending on their communication contract, with a final focus on the candidate Donald Trump. As news media face declining levels of trust, research has suggested that partisans may differ in their views of news media. Depending on their ideological positions, partisans may have different perceptions of how faithfully news media adhere to journalistic norms. This study explores the intersections of ideology, perceived ethical performance of news media, trust in news media, and news participatory behaviors. Our analyses of data from a national representative survey of 452 respondents show that liberals are more likely than conservatives to perceive that news media operate ethically. More important, we found that liberals trust news media more than conservatives because of this evaluation. Our results also suggest that participation in news is positively related to ethical performance evaluations, which partly account for different levels of participation between conservatives and liberals. The article explores the united front concept used by Chinese authorities to describe the overseas activities of the Communist Party of China. It highlights the threat posed by China's growing global influence to liberal democracies and the response by U.S. allies and partners to the situation. The relationship between China's overseas activities and the decline of traditional U.S. leadership under the administration of President Donald Trump is discussed. Russia is the only country in the G20 group of nations where Donald Trump is the preferred choice for the next President of the United States. This article examines a hypothesis that Trump owes his popularity in Russia to the way Russian media frames his image. The media content was analyzed by quantitative parameters and then, these parameters were further complimented with a discourse analysis which, in addition to examining the texts themselves, also appeals to the reality beyond the texts, including social and political circumstances that surround the issue. The results demonstrate that the discourse about Trump in the Russian media possesses all the necessary typological characteristics of propaganda.
