The Libraries of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) have initiated a process of creation of a house brand to project a solid and unified global image. The first step was the design of a logo following the UAB corporate identity manual in order to give uniformity to the brand, regardless of the dissemination channel. This task has been achieved updating the Libraries Service web, grouping the existing social networks and standardizing the documentation generated. This has contributed to a more cohesive communication and also to give coherence to the contents. The following steps will focus on the development of branding strategies in order to provide the UAB Libraries with an identity as well as winning the confidence and loyalty of the university community. Academic digital libraries are getting more benefit from the Web possibilities to help with teaching, learning and research activities. Because of it, more and more people use the services that they offer. Therefore, it is very important that the academic digital libraries provide a good service in order to satisfy the users’ expectations. The aim of this paper is to present a decision support system assisting the staff of the academic digital libraries to make decisions in order to meet the users’ needs and, in such a way, to increase the number of users utilizing them. To do so, the decision support system is composed of several decision rules which generate recommendations according to both objective and subjective criteria to improve the quality of the services offered by the academic digital libraries. Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to obtain more accurate matching between the request and the release of web service. Design/methodology/approach - This paper adopts Levenshtein distance algorithm to calculate the name similarity between publishing service and request service, employs cosine theorem to compute the text similarity, and uses semantic distance to count the input-output similarity, then filters out the low similarity and bad reputation services to structure the candidate service set. Findings - The qualitative and quantitative analysis of the scheme is given in this paper. The experimental results show that the multi-level matching filtering algorithm can obviously improve the recall ratio and precision ratio of web service discovery. Memorials to the dead on the world wide web are increasing in number and variety. Each venue comes with its own advantages and drawbacks. This paper is a first exploration of how the formats of three frequently used venues (web cemeteries, webrings and social networking sites) affect the experience of web memorialisation – both for those who created the memorials and their visitors. Although all web memorials can benefit the bereaved, format affects: control over the narrative, number and type of visitors, and the ways that visitors interact with the site and each other. It is hoped that the issues raised in this paper will be considered both in the design of new sites and in guiding the bereaved to existing venues that best meet their needs. Extension Master Gardener (EMG) volunteers are key to effective dissemination of horticultural information to the public. The goal of this workshop was to identity techniques to increase the capacity and effectiveness of EMG volunteers. The workshop focused on projects and tools that reduce the administrative burden of managing volunteers, increase the scope of issues that volunteers arc prepared to address, and pool volunteer efforts and resources across county lines. Two online systems for managing and reporting EMG volunteer activities were described. Both systems arc intuitive, user-friendly, and updated without the assistance of web managers. Regional web-based, advanced training on specific topics was used to expand educational messages of EMG volunteers and eliminate the costs associated with face to-face training. Presentations were made using distance learning technologies and resources were shared online. Hosting agents tailored hands-on supporting activities to meet local needs. Volunteers expanded extension outreach by answering noncommercial landscape and garden telephone questions. Many of the administrative, logistical, and resource burdens associated with the EMG helpline phone service were overcome by working across county lines, standardizing training, centralizing supporting resources, and clustering volunteers into regional telephone helpline offices. Other projects and tools presented in the workshop focused on the need to affirm and/or foster the volunteers' connection with the university and the outreach mission of Cooperative Extension. Abstract: Reaching a high level of consensus among experts is critical in group decision making problems. Usually, it is the moderator task to assure that the consensus process is carried out properly and, if possible, to offer recommendations to the expert in order to change their opinions and narrow their differences. In this paper we present an implemented web based consensus support system that is able to help, or even replace, the moderator in a consensus process where experts are allowed to provide their preferences using one of many types (fuzzy, linguistic and multi-granular linguistic) of incomplete preference relations. This system is based on both consistency and consensus measures and it has been designed to provide advice to the experts to increase group consensus level while maintaining the individual consistency of each expert. The consistency measures are characterized by and computed using uninorm operators. When appropriate, the system also helps experts to reduce the incompleteness of their preference relations. The web interface allows to carry out distributed consensus processes and thus, experts do not necessarily need to physically meet together. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The emergence of information technology in the library sector has developed new ways of communication between users and librarians, while promoting the transit from "user-consumer" to "user-creator." This new technique of acting is based on the concept of architecture of participation, which derives from the 2.0 philosophy, and generates the user's active involvement in the creation and organization of content. The increase of information flow, from the user to the library, allows constantly the updating and re-evaluation of library services to best meet the information needs of the user community. The article deals with the challenges and opportunities that this context presents in today's information services. Ecology Express is an ASP (Application Service Provider) service, focused on delivering environment and energy related information. The year 2009 marks the 10th anniversary of the service. Majority of the customers are corporations, with its membership comprised approximately 400 companies and 2,000 individuals. Since the establishment of the service, various improvements have been made, such as completeness and immediacy of information and usability, by trial and error. As part of these efforts, the site was renewed dramatically for the third time in September 2008. Increasing Web usage requires Web accessibility, use of Web including people with disabilities and older people. W3C, which is known as a de facto Web standard developer, is preparing WCAG 2.0, a Web content accessibility guidelines. WCAG 2.0 is expected to become W3C Recommendation in 2007 and will be a worldwide accessibility standard. The current boom of the Web is associated with the revenues originated from on-line advertising. While search-based advertising is dominant, the association of ads with a Web page (during user navigation) is becoming increasingly important. In this work, we study the problem of associating ads with a Web page, referred to as content-targeted advertising, from a computer science perspective. We assume that we have access to the text of the Web page, the keywords declared by an advertiser, and a text associated with the advertiser's business. Using no other information and operating in fully automatic fashion, we propose ten strategies for solving the problem and evaluate their effectiveness. Our methods indicate that a matching strategy that takes into account the semantics of the problem (referred to as AAK for "ads and keywords") can yield gains in average precision figures of 60% compared to a trivial vector-based strategy. Further, a more sophisticated impedance coupling strategy, which expands the text of the Web page to reduce vocabulary impedance, with regard to an advertisement, can yield extra gains in average precision of 50%. This article presents information on an interinstitutional project called Information System of the Agricultural Sector of the Cauca Valley (SISAV). It has been developed considering the needs of the Agricultural Sector based on having integral, truthful and updated information available for the agricultural development of the Department of the Cauca Valley. It accounts with the support of 21 organizations of the sector in its quality of managers, members and cooperators of the actions that the SISAV carries out.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) announced in 2001 that it would make available over the web for free the teaching materials of all the courses taught at MIT. In 2003 the number of courses from virtually exceeded 500. First the author describes the process leading to the Open Course Ware (OCW); studies on how MIT created and provided online education financially viable and sustainable way, and in terms of the program objectives, and studies on e-learning prospect, marketing research, business models, so on. This paper presents a Web based system for the automatic capture of Arabic fonts. The system is based on an algorithm, which incorporates various features including the detection of boundary, discovering corner and break points, and fitting the curve. The work done, in this paper, fully automate the process and produces best optimal results.
