- Abstract
Limited phase equilibria data exist for multicomponent systems encountered in the natural gas processing industry. To address this gap, bubble point measurements were performed for methane + propane + methanol; methane + propane + (2,2′-[ethane-1,2-diylbis(oxy)] di(ethan-1-ol) or triethylene glycol); methane + propane + methanol + triethylene glycol systems in the temperature range of 283.16 to 323.16 K and a pressure range of 0.78 to 13.79 MPa. A visual synthetic high-pressure cell comprising a sapphire tube of 33 cm3working volume was used. The new experimental P-T-xdata were modeled using the Cubic Plus Association (CPA) model and the Perturbed-Chain Statistical Associating Fluid Theory (PC-SAFT) model. Model correlations with the CPA model yielded better results than those with the PC-SAFT model, with a maximum absolute average relative deviation in pressure of 6.97% and 7.33%, respectively. The CPA model predictions based on binary parameters alone do not adequately describe phase behavior of multicomponent systems.

BACKGROUND: Young Indigenous people, particularly those involved in the child welfare system, those entrenched in substance use and those living with HIV or hepatitis C, are dying prematurely. We report mortality rates among young Indigenous people who use drugs in British Columbia and explore predictors of mortality over time. METHODS: We analyzed data collected every 6 months between 2003 and 2014 by the Cedar Project, a prospective cohort study involving young Indigenous people who use illicit drugs in Vancouver and Prince George, BC. We calculated age-standardized mortality ratios using Indigenous and Canadian reference populations. We identified predictors of mortality using time-dependent Cox proportional hazard regression. RESULTS: Among 610 participants, 40 died between 2003 and 2014, yielding a mortality rate of 670 per 100 000 person-years. Young Indigenous people who used drugs were 12.9 (95% confidence interval [CI] 9.2-17.5) times more likely to die than all Canadians the same age and were 7.8 (95% CI 5.6-10.6) times more likely to die than Indigenous people with Status in BC. Young women and those using drugs by injection were most affected. The leading causes of death were overdose (n = 15 [38%]), illness (n = 11 [28%]) and suicide (n = 5 [12%]). Predictors of mortality included having hepatitis C at baseline (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] 2.76, 95% CI 1.47-5.16), previous attempted suicide (adjusted HR 1.88, 95% CI 1.01-3.50) and recent overdose (adjusted HR 2.85, 95% CI 1.00-8.09). INTERPRETATION: Young Indigenous people using drugs in BC are dying at an alarming rate, particularly young women and those using injection drugs. These deaths likely reflect complex intersections of historical and present-day injustices, substance use and barriers to care., Indigenous leaders in Canada are concerned that their young people are dying prematurely, particularly those involved in the child welfare system, those entrenched in substance use and those living with [...]

- Abstract
The first official donor lung allocation system in the United States was initiated by the United Network of Organ Sharing in 1990. The initial policy for lung allocation was simple with donor lungs allocated based on ABO match and the amount of time the candidates accrued on the waiting list. Donor offers were first given to candidates’ donor service area. In March 2005, the implementation of the lung allocation score (LAS) was the major change in organ allocation. International adoption of the LAS-based allocation system can be seen worldwide.

- Abstract
This study examines changes made in instructional design and course delivery by two instructors at a mid-sized public university in response to the required migration from face-to-face to online teaching. One instructor had no online teaching experience while the other had over 15 years of experience. Institutional support successfully facilitated rapid migration from face-to-face to online teaching. For courses already taught online, steps were taken to further enhance student engagement and connectivity. It became evident during the transition that successful student-learning outcomes can be realised, even in courses not historically considered as good candidates for online instruction. This can be accomplished with quality course design and delivery, and instructors' flexibility to adapt to new scenarios while having a growth-oriented approach. Careful planning, and implementation of strategies that improve course delivery, based on student feedback, are also steps that can be taken to ensure successful migration from face-to-face to online teaching.

- Abstract
Tissue-resident macrophages (TRMs) are long-lived cells that maintain locally and can be phenotypically distinct from monocyte-derived macrophages. Whether TRMs and monocyte-derived macrophages have district roles under differing pathologies is not understood. Here, we showed that a substantial portion of the macrophages that accumulated during pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer in mice had expanded from TRMs. Pancreas TRMs had an extracellular matrix remodeling phenotype that was important for maintaining tissue homeostasis during inflammation. Loss of TRMs led to exacerbation of severe pancreatitis and death, due to impaired acinar cell survival and recovery. During pancreatitis, TRMs elicited protective effects by triggering the accumulation and activation of fibroblasts, which was necessary for initiating fibrosis as a wound healing response. The same TRM-driven fibrosis, however, drove pancreas cancer pathogenesis and progression. Together, these findings indicate that TRMs play divergent roles in the pathogenesis of pancreatitis and cancer through regulation of stromagenesis.

- Abstract
Human leucocyte antigen B*27 (HLA-B*27) is strongly associated with inflammatory diseases of the spine and pelvis (for example, ankylosing spondylitis (AS)) and the eye (that is, acute anterior uveitis (AAU))1. How HLA-B*27 facilitates disease remains unknown, but one possible mechanism could involve presentation of pathogenic peptides to CD8+T cells. Here we isolated orphan T cell receptors (TCRs) expressing a disease-associated public β-chain variable region–complementary-determining region 3β (BV9–CDR3β) motif2–4from blood and synovial fluid T cells from individuals with AS and from the eye in individuals with AAU. These TCRs showed consistent α-chain variable region (AV21) chain pairing and were clonally expanded in the joint and eye. We used HLA-B*27:05 yeast display peptide libraries to identify shared self-peptides and microbial peptides that activated the AS- and AAU-derived TCRs. Structural analysis revealed that TCR cross-reactivity for peptide–MHC was rooted in a shared binding motif present in both self-antigens and microbial antigens that engages the BV9–CDR3β TCRs. These findings support the hypothesis that microbial antigens and self-antigens could play a pathogenic role in HLA-B*27-associated disease.

- Abstract
Place is defined as a social or environmental area of residence with meaning to a patient. We hypothesize there is an association between place and the clinical outcomes of lung transplant recipients in the United States. In a retrospective cohort study of transplants between January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2019, in the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients, multivariable Cox regression models were used to test the association between place (through social and environmental factors) with readmission, lung rejection, and survival. Among 18,465 recipients, only 20% resided in the same county as the transplant center. Recipients from the most socially vulnerable counties when compared to the least vulnerable were more likely to have COPD as a native disease, Black or African American race, and travel long distances to reach a transplant center. Higher local life expectancy was associated with lower likelihood for readmission (odds ratio [OR] = 0.90, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.84, 0.98, p= .01). Higher social vulnerability was associated with a higher likelihood of lung rejection (OR = 1.37, [CI]: 1.07, 1.76, p= .01). There was no association of residence with posttransplant survival. Recipient place-based factors were associated with complications and processes of care after transplant and warrant further investigation.

The objective of this study is to determine whether violence in psychiatric patients is associated with brain dysfunction independent of substance abuse. Psychiatric inpatients with a history of violent behavior in the community were compared to nonviolent inpatients on several variables related to brain dysfunction. The two groups were similar in terms of demographics and psychiatric diagnosis. No significant differences were found in neuropsychological function, but violent patients were significantly more likely to have co-occurring substance abuse and nearly 4 times more likely to have a history of closed-head injury. Logistic regression revealed that the association between violence and head injury can be explained by comorbid substance abuse. Keywords: violence; major mental illness; neuropsychological testing; traumatic head injury; substance abuse

- Abstract
In this work measurements and modeling of new phase equilibria data for systems related to natural gas processing were performed. A high-pressure apparatus functioning in the static synthetic mode was used to measure P–T–xdata for the systems methane + methanol + 2,2′-[ethane-1,2-diylbis(oxy)] di(ethan-1-ol) (triethylene glycol (TEG)) (0.0333 methanol/0.9667 TEG wt fraction) and carbon dioxide + methanol + TEG (0.0333 methanol/0.9667 TEG wt fraction) at 303.16 and 323.15 K. Validation of the experimental technique was performed through measurement of P–T–xdata for methane + TEG, methane + methanol, and carbon dioxide + water + TEG (0.0350 water/0.9650 TEG wt fraction) test systems from T= 298.15 to 323.15 K. The data were modeled using the Peng–Robinson equation of state with the Wong Sandler mixing rules (PRWS), the Cubic Plus Association (CPA) model, and the Perturbed-Chain Statistical Associating Fluid Theory (PC-SAFT) model, and predictions were performed with the predictive Soave–Redlich–Kwong (PSRK) model. For the methane + methanol + TEG and carbon dioxide + methanol + TEG systems, the PRWS model correlation yielded the best fit to the experimental data compared to the PC-SAFT and CPA models with a maximum absolute average relative deviation in pressure (AARD(P)) not exceeding 0.0309.

- Abstract
Computing demands for large scientific experiments, such as the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC, will increase dramatically in the next decades. To complement the future performance increases of software running on central processing units (CPUs), explorations of coprocessor usage in data processing hold great potential and interest. Coprocessors are a class of computer processors that supplement CPUs, often improving the execution of certain functions due to architectural design choices. We explore the approach of Services for Optimized Network Inference on Coprocessors (SONIC) and study the deployment of this as-a-service approach in large-scale data processing. In the studies, we take a data processing workflow of the CMS experiment and run the main workflow on CPUs, while offloading several machine learning (ML) inference tasks onto either remote or local coprocessors, specifically graphics processing units (GPUs). With experiments performed at Google Cloud, the Purdue Tier-2 computing center, and combinations of the two, we demonstrate the acceleration of these ML algorithms individually on coprocessors and the corresponding throughput improvement for the entire workflow. This approach can be easily generalized to different types of coprocessors and deployed on local CPUs without decreasing the throughput performance. We emphasize that the SONIC approach enables high coprocessor usage and enables the portability to run workflows on different types of coprocessors.

* TOTAL HIP ARTHROPLASTY (THA) has been proven to decrease a patient's pain and improve function and quality of life. This procedure has been performed in the United States since 1960. Follow-up data suggest long-term success with a decreasing rate of complications and low rate of revision. * MORE THAN 168,000 THA procedures are performed in the United States every year. There is an 80% chance these hip replacements will last at least 20 years. * CURRENT IMPROVEMENTS in hip designs, surgical techniques, fixation methods, prophylactic therapies, preadmission education, and rehabilitation have contributed to improved patient outcomes. AORN J 78 (December 2003) 947-969., Since 2001, 17 manufacturers have produced and marketed 111 different cemented and cementless (ie, porous) femoral components and 56 different acetabular components for use in primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) [...]
