Zusammenfassung Es wird über die klinische Anwendung von oral (28 Patienten) und parenteral (28 Patienten) appliziertem Cephradin (Cph.) berichtet, das Kinder im Alter von 2 Monaten bis zu 14 Jahren zur Behandlung leichterer bis schwerer bakterieller Infektionen erhielten. Erkrankungen, Untersuchungsmethoden und Bakteriologie werden besprochen. Die Nebenwirkungen (14% bei oraler, 7% bei parenteraler Applikation) waren leichter Art, nicht immer mit Sicherheit auf das Cph. zurückzuführen und machten keine Unterbrechung der Behandlung nötig. Es handelte sich um gastrointestinale Symptome, Leukozyturien und einen SGPT/OT-Anstieg. Der Behandlungserfolg nach Ausschluß von Infektionen mit resistenten Keimen war bei oraler Applikation (mittlere Dosis 74 mg/kg KG) in 81% der Fälle vorhanden, in 19% fraglich oder fehlend. Bei parenteraler Gabe (mittlere Dosis 89 mg/kg) konnte in 89% ein vorhandener, in 11% ein nur fraglicher Erfolg verzeichnet werden. Die möglichen Ursachen fraglicher oder fehlender Therapieresultate werden diskutiert, die Gesamt-Untersuchungsergebnisse mit anderen Veröffentlichungen verglichen.

Triturus vittatus(Jenyns, 1835) has been subdivided in 5 subspecies: in addition to the typicalsubspecies, ophryticusBerthold, 1846, excubitorWolterstorff, 1905, ciliciensisWolterstorff, 1906, and chuldaensisBodenheimer, 1926, have been proposed. While the rather peculiar ssp. ophryticusis considered to be valid, the analysis of characters recorded for the other subspecies shows that over the whole range of geographic distribution no population has been found which justifies the subspecific division suggested by various authors.

IT has been noted1,2that the radula (rasping tongue) of certain chitons, molluscs, are ferromagnetic. Examples of Polyplacophora in which the magnetism is reported to be caused by magnetite in the dentical caps are species of Cryptochiton, Chiton, Acanthopleura, and Mopalia1and Chaetopleura apiculata2.

THE Ein Feshkha area is a marshy stretch of the north-western coast of the Dead Sea. The fauna of the area, which has developed over a long period in total isolation, should have attracted zoologists, in view of the evolutionary problems as well as the special ecological aspects of a thermal–mineral–water fauna; but as no comprehensive account of these problems has so far appeared, the following points may be of interest.

THE presence of fishes of Erythrean origin in the Levant has been observed by several authors1–6. It has also been stated that these fishes must have traversed the Suez Canal and settled more or less finally in the Mediterranean. As this process of immigration of fishes into an entirely distinct region is going on continually, it may be of interest to list briefly those species which have been collected by workers of the Hebrew University and have so far been identified.
