While emerging technologies has substantially improved the way traffic signals operated, most agencies still rely on the traditional approach of retiming, which is typically initiated by “trigger” events (e.g., signal retiming occurs due to citizen calls, a major change in land use or roadway geometry, sustained oversaturation, and safety concerns). The approach of using triggers can work effectively for small agencies, however, such an approach may not be sustainable for agencies that operate a high number of corridors. Additionally, agencies are often limited in terms of their budget to retime signals. Therefore, strategic selection of corridors is important to effectively utilize existing resources. Recently data-driven methods for prioritization of corridors for retiming were proposed. However, these methods either rely on datasets that are not widely available or only account for corridor performance (e.g., speed) without considering other relevant factors that can be important during prioritization. Further, most prior attempts estimated corridor performance based on the simple average performance of individual intersections. Such an approach may distort the results for corridors with largely dispersed intersection performance. To overcome these challenges, this study proposes a novel ranking approach based on data that is available to most agencies and incorporates normalized corridor delay, corridor travel time reliability, annual average daily traffic, and time since the last retiming. The proposed method was applied to 120 corridors (consisting of 756 signals) across the State of Ohio in the US. It was found that ranking results are highly aligned with agency representatives’ expectations, as most of the highly ranked corridors have already been identified by agency representatives for future retiming projects. Moreover, the before-and-after analysis from recent retiming studies on highly ranked corridors revealed substantial benefits, confirming the effectiveness of the proposed ranking method. The proposed ranking and prioritization method discussed in this paper could be beneficial for agencies with a large number of corridors and limited budget and resources so that they can effectively prioritize their corridors for future signal retiming projects.

Objectives: Staff at violence against women (VAW) organizations provide essential services for survivors of violence. The increase in VAW during the COVID-19 pandemic placed additional pressures on VAW staff. We investigated the impacts of the pandemic on the mental health of VAW staff in the Greater Toronto Area to inform recommendations for policy and practice. Methods: We conducted a community-based, mixed-methods study on the processes, experiences, and outcomes of adapting VAW programming during the pandemic using a sequential explanatory approach. Throughout 2021, we conducted a survey of direct support and leadership staff who worked on VAW services (“VAW staff”) followed by semi-structured interviews with VAW staff purposively sampled from the survey. We descriptively analyzed quantitative survey data on the mental health of 127 VAW staff. We then applied thematic analysis to qualitative data from 18 interviews with VAW staff. We used the qualitative data to support interpretation and enrich the quantitative findings regarding staff mental health. Results: In the survey, 81% of leadership and 61% of direct support staff indicated that their work was more distressing during the pandemic. Participants reported moderate symptoms of vicarious trauma and mild symptoms of anxiety and depression. We generated three themes from the qualitative data to help explain these findings: (1) challenges related to changing work environments; (2) distress over not meeting client needs; and (3) difficulties in adapting self-care strategies in response to pandemic stressors. Conclusion: VAW organizations require increased resources and flexible funding to hire and retain more staff to respond to higher and more complex caseloads during public health emergencies. With more structural supports in place, VAW organizations could create more time and space to develop their trauma-informed organizational practices: for example, establishing a culture of connection and learning among staff virtually and in-person and facilitating a range of self-care opportunities.

In the REVIVED-BCIS2 (Revascularization for Ischemic Ventricular Dysfunction) trial, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) did not reduce the incidence of death or hospitalization for heart failure (HHF).

Introduction: This prospective, single-arm, crossover pharmacodynamic study assessed the effect of Bayer®low-dose enteric-coated aspirin 81 mg tablets (LD EC-ASA) (Bayer AG, Leverkusen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) compared to Vazalore®low-dose phospholipid-aspirin liquid-filled 81 mg capsules (LD PL-ASA) (PLx Pharma Inc., Sparta, NJ, USA) on platelet reactivity with respect to aspirin reaction units (ARU). Methods: Forty-seven healthy volunteers were recruited. Platelet function was evaluated with the VerifyNow™ ARU assay (Werfen, Bedford, MA, USA) and assessed post-initiation of Bayer®LD EC-ASA daily for 14 days, with a washout period of 28 days, followed by Vazalore®LD PL-ASA daily for 14 days, again followed by ARU testing. Results: Participants on LD EC-ASA had a mean ARU score of 426, with 19.1% of participants having an ARU > 550; patients on LD PL-ASA derived a mean ARU score of 435, with 14.9% achieving an ARU > 550. There were no significant differences in aspirin resistance (ARU > 550) according to the formulation (Bayer®LD EC-ASA vs. Vazalore®LD PL-ASA) used. Aspirin resistance was independent of ethnicity regardless of the formulation used. In addition, there were no significant associations between body surface area (BSA) and Bayer®LD EC-ASA ARU value (pvalue 0.788) or Vazalore®LD PL-ASA ARU value (pvalue 0.477). No patients experienced any serious adverse events or treatment-emergent adverse events. Conclusions: There were no significant differences in aspirin resistance between Bayer®LD EC-ASA and Vazalore®LD PL-ASA. This dedicated pharmacodynamic study could potentially be informative and applicable for Trinidadian patients on dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT). Further studies are required to confirm these exploratory findings. Trial Registration: ClinicalTrials.gov identifier, NCT06228820, prospectively registered 1/18/2024.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained supraventricular arrhythmia encountered in clinical practice. Due to the higher prevalence of rheumatic fever in several regions of India, rheumatic heart disease (RHD) is the most common etiological factor of AF.Aims and Objectives: The objective of the study was to study clinical features, electrocardiographic (ECG) and echocardiographic (ECHO) findings, complications, and incidence of AF in rheumatic mitral valve disease (R-MVD).Methods: It is an observational cross-sectional study of 40 indoor patients in a Tertiary Care Hospital in Vadodara, Gujarat, carried over a period of a year. Clinical data including symptoms, signs, systemic examination, and relevant investigations were studied.Results: 67.5% (n= 27) of patients having AF were below the age of 50 years with higher incidence among females (72.50%) as compared to males (27.5%). Fifteen (37.5%) had mitral stenosis (MS) and 13 (32.5%) had MS with regurgitation. Most of the patients 35 (87.5%) presented with breathlessness, followed by palpitation 28 (70%). The most commonly heard murmur was mid-diastolic (65%, n= 26), followed by pansystolic murmur (40%, n= 16) at the apex. Out of 40 patients, 15 (37.5%) had evidence of left ventricular hypertrophy on ECG, whereas only 5 (12.5%) had right ventricular hypertrophy. Four out of five patients with the evidence of cardioembolic stroke had left atrium (LA) size >45 mm which suggests an increased risk of embolic stroke with increased LA size. Only 3 (7.5%) patients had a visible LA clot in LA on two-dimensional ECHO, whereas only one patient had vegetation on valves. Twenty-seven out of 30 patients treated with diltiazem show good response. Heart failure was the most common complication affecting 85% (n= 34) of the patients with AF with R-MVD. Four (10%) patients out of 40 expired including 1 (25%) of the four pregnant patients, suggesting higher mortality among pregnant females due to superimposed physiological changes occurring during pregnancy.Conclusion: In developing countries like India, RHD is a major cause of AF affecting the younger population and more commonly females. Most of the patients in our study presented with breathlessness and palpitation. LA size was directly proportional to the risk of cardioembolic stroke and most of the patients developed heart failure as a complication.

ABSTRACTIn the diagnosis of cardiac disorders Heart sound has a major role, and early detection is crucial to safeguard the patients. Computerized strategies of heart sound classification advocate intensive and more exact results in a quick and better manner. Using a hybrid optimization-controlled deep learning strategy this paper proposed an automatic heart sound classification module. The parameter tuning of the Deep Neural Network (DNN) classifier in a satisfactory manner is the importance of this research which depends on the Hybrid Sneaky optimization algorithm. The developed sneaky optimization algorithm inherits the traits of questing and societal search agents. Moreover, input data from the Phonocardiogram (PCG) database undergoes the process of feature extraction which extract the important features, like statistical, Heart Rate Variability (HRV), and to enhance the performance of this model, the features of Mel frequency Cepstral coefficients (MFCC) are assisted. The developed Sneaky optimization-based DNN classifier’s performance is determined in respect of the metrics, namely precision, accuracy, specificity, and sensitivity, which are around 97%, 96.98%, 97%, and 96.9%, respectively.

Quantum photonic integrated circuits, composed of linear-optical elements, offer an efficient way for encoding and processing quantum information on-chip. At their core, these circuits rely on reconfigurable phase shifters, typically constructed from classical components such as thermo- or electro-optical materials, while quantum solid-state emitters such as quantum dots are limited to acting as single-photon sources. Here, we demonstrate the potential of quantum dots as reconfigurable phase shifters. We use numerical models based on established literature parameters to show that circuits utilizing these emitters enable high-fidelity operation and are scalable. Despite the inherent imperfections associated with quantum dots, such as imperfect coupling, dephasing, or spectral diffusion, we show that circuits based on these emitters may be optimized such that these do not significantly impact the unitary infidelity. Specifically, they do not increase the infidelity by more than 0.001 in circuits with up to 10 modes, compared to those affected only by standard nanophotonic losses and routing errors. For example, we achieve fidelities of 0.9998 in quantum-dot-based circuits enacting controlled-phase and – not gates without any redundancies. These findings demonstrate the feasibility of quantum emitter-driven quantum information processing and pave the way for cryogenically-compatible, fast, and low-loss reconfigurable quantum photonic circuits.

AbstractIn India, the polarization of growth towards urban areas leads to a considerable rise in multifamily, high-rise residential projects. Hence, incorporating sustainability in high-rise residential construction is one of the key aims of sustainable urban development. This study presents a comprehensive framework for the sustainability assessment of high-rise residential projects in India, addressing economic, environmental and social dimensions throughout the project’s life cycle. The proposed framework comprises 44 attributes, 11 criteria and three dimensions of sustainability based on an extensive literature review, Indian government policies and guidelines for environmental clearance of residential projects and India’s commonly adopted green building rating systems. The present study has identified 12 economically favourable sustainability attributes which can be helpful to encourage developers to implement them. Further, the analytic hierarchy process was used to evaluate the weights of identified sustainability attributes, criteria and dimensions based on experts’ opinions. The developed sustainability assessment framework provides a blueprint for promoting sustainable practices in high-rise residential construction. It can also be used to develop a sustainability assessment tool for high-rise residential projects.

Millimeter-wave (mmWave) radar sensors are emerging as valid alternatives to cameras for the pervasive contactless monitoring of people in indoor spaces. However, commercial mmWave radars feature a limited range (up to 6–8 m) and are subject to occlusion, which may constitute a significant drawback in large, crowded rooms characterized by a challenging multipath environment. Thus, covering large indoor spaces requires multiple radars with known relative position and orientation and algorithms to combine their outputs. In this work, we present ORACLE, an autonomous system that: 1) integrates automatic relative position and orientation estimation from multiple radar devices by exploiting the trajectories of people moving freely in the radars’ common fields of view and 2) fuses the tracking information from multiple radars to obtain a unified tracking among all sensors. Our implementation and experimental evaluation of ORACLE results in median errors of 0.12 m and 0.03° for radar location and orientation estimates, respectively. Fused tracking improves the mean target tracking accuracy by 27% and the mean tracking error is 23 cm in the most challenging case of three moving targets. Finally, ORACLE does not show significant performance reduction when the fusion rate is reduced to up to 1/5 of the frame rate of the single radar sensors, thus being amenable to a lightweight implementation on a resource-constrained fusion center (FC).

Reinforced polymers structures are widely used to fabricate intricate end-use parts due to their high durability, material-corrosion stability, low cost, and less weight. While extensive studies have focused on optimizing the compressive performance of fibre-reinforced structures; however, only a few have emphasised on compressive strength-based studies for reinforced multi-material structures to improve multi-functionality of end-use products. The study presents the universal compression strength-based predictive model employing material jetting technique which significantly optimizes the compressive performance of reinforced-thermoset structures precisely governing the material distribution of polymers controlling filler shape, filler volume concentration, and filler position considering full factorial Design of Experiments approach. Numerous prefabricating factors and fabricating constraints are considered to improve the accuracy of the model and identify complex correlations that are not apparent through empirical model. The compressive strength-prediction model is developed using machine learning algorithms where the Genetic Algorithm optimizes the compressive strength outcomes. The implementation of elliptical-reinforced filler networks, characterised by a Filler Aspect Ratio of 0.2938 and a Filler Volume Concentration of 30%, enhances the compressive strength by 146.41%. FESEM is employed to characterize the microstructural morphology at the interface of multi-material specimens. This study exhibits the replacement of metal stud gear with an elliptical-reinforced polymer stud gear in the Panther 1650 Series All Geared Lathe Machine, achieving a total of 2 million revolutions. The optical 3D measurement technique is used to visualise and examine residual stresses using displacement fields.

Derivative trading, started in mid-2000, has become an integral and significant part of Indian stock market. The tremendous increase in trading volume in Indian stock market has reflected into high volatility in the option prices. The pricing of options is very complex aspect of applied finance and has been subject of extensive research. Black–Scholes option model is a scientific pricing model which is applied for determining the fair price for option contracts. This article examines if Black–Scholes option pricing model (BSOPM) is a good indicator of option pricing in Indian context. The literature review highlights that various studies have been conducted on BSOPM in various stock exchange across the world with mixed outcome on its relevance and applicability. This article is an empirical study to test the relevance of BSOPM for which 10 most popular industry’s stock listed on National Stock Exchange have been taken. Then the BSOPM has been applied using volatility and risk-free rate. Furthermore, t-test has been used to test the hypothesis and determine the significant relationship between BS model values and actual model values. This study concludes that BSOPM involves significant degree of mispricing. Hence, this model alone cannot be adopted as an indicator for option pricing. The variation from market price is synchronised with respect to moneyness and time to maturity of the option.

This work deals with the multiobjective optimization of control factors of a switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive for an electric vehicle (EV) application using an optimization algorithm with reduced computation effort. In motor operation using conventional torque sharing function (TSF), input control parameters must be optimized to achieve desired drive response. These control factors are sensitive to motor operating speed and load condition. The sensitivity analysis of control factors, followed by the effect of operating conditions, is utilized to compose the objective function using response surface method. Response surface model (RSM) combined with a multiobjective genetic algorithm (MOGA) is implemented to obtain the optimum value of control variables with faster computation to meet the minimum torque ripple and maximum torque per ampere criterion. The low computation method computes the optimum result for varying operating applications without continuously calculating the desired objective and evaluates the result based on the fitted model. The input reference torque to TSF also plays a vital role in reducing the torque ripple. Therefore, torque loop is established to track TSF reference torque accurately. Experimental and simulation results validate performance of presented combined technique to optimize TSF input parameters.

This report introduces a novel optofluidic platform based on piezo-microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology, capable of identifying subtle variations in the fluid concentration. The system utilizes piezoelectric micromachined ultrasound transducers (PMUTs) as receivers to capture sound waves produced by nanosecond photoacoustic (PA) pulses emanating from a fluid target housed in PDMS microchannels. Additionally, a dedicated low-noise single-channel amplifier has been developed to extract the minute analog voltage signals from the PMUTs, given the inherently weak ultrasound signals generated by fluid targets. The PMUTs’ proficiency in detecting changes in fluid concentration under both static and time-varying conditions has been documented and verified, confirming the platform’s efficacy in monitoring fluid concentrations.

We consider the localization of a mobile mmw client in a large indoor environment using multilayer perceptron neural networks (NNs). Instead of training and deploying a single deep model, we proceed by choosing among multiple tiny NNs trained in a self-supervised manner. The main challenge is then to determine and switch to the best NN among the available ones, as an incorrect NN will fail to localize the client. In order to preserve the localization accuracy, we propose two switching schemes: one based on the innovation measured by a Kalman filter, and one based on the statistical distribution of the training data. We analyze the proposed schemes via simulations, showing that our approach outperforms both geometric localization schemes and the use of a single NN.

The present paper examines the month of year effect in the Indian capital markets. For the purpose of the study the data of Nifty 50 and five sectoral indices namely, Nifty Bank, Nifty Financial Services, Nifty FMCG, Nifty IT and Nifty Services has been considered for a period of ten years from 2009 to 2019. The methods used to test the efficiency of the markets are OLS Regression and three volatility models. The volatility models considered for the present study are GARCH (1, 1), TGARCH (1, 1) and EGARCH (1, 1). The results of the study indicate the presence of calendar effects in the Indian markets. The study found March effect to be significant in Nifty 50 and all the sectoral indices except for the IT sector where January effect is significant. In the volatility model the month of January is significant only for the IT sector whereas April returns are significant for all the other indices.

The DNA methyltransferase inhibitors azacitidine and decitabine for individuals with myelodysplastic syndromes or chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia are available in parenteral form. Oral therapy with similar exposure for these diseases would offer potential treatment benefits. We aimed to compare the safety and pharmacokinetics of oral decitabine plus the cytidine deaminase inhibitor cedazuridine versus intravenous decitabine.

ABSTRACTWater is an essential resource. An understanding of catchment water balance is crucial to ensure water availability in the region. Hydrological models are credible tools for water balance assessment of a region. These models are data intensive. The traditional hydrological modeling approach relies on station-based observed data. The availability of sufficient long-term consistent observed data is often limited. On the other hand, climate reanalysis data for a long timeperiod is available from multiple data sources. This study estimates runoff characteristics for Lower Tapi River Basin in western India, with the help of a Soil Conservation Service Curve Number method. The catchment water balance in terms of runoff, baseflow, and recharge at sub-basin scale is worked out with the help of station-based and climate reanalysis datasets. The model output are calibrated against observed river gauging data. A reasonable fit between model-simulated and observed runoff is obtained in terms of duration and magnitude of runoff peak. Tested model is applied to future climate scenarios. The simulations show an increase in surface runoff, recharge, baseflow and total runoff for future time period. Results reveal that climate changes have significant impact on hydrology of the basin.

Radiation-induced defects can alter the crystal structure of materials consequently inducing lattice strain, which can be quantified by examining the full width at half-maximum (FWHM) values of X-ray diffraction (XRD) peaks. In this study, an experimental sample of the alpha manganese was simulated first principally using the LCAO basis set and SGGA-PBE XC functionals. The optimized simulation results were found to be close to the experimental results, with an underestimation error of ∼2.21 %. The same simulation model was then extended to investigate the FWHM variation of XRD peaks as a function of increasing isotropic strain, which is one of the consequences of radiation-induced defects. The study found that the FWHM values increased with increasing isotropic strain, indicating the presence of radiation-induced defects, and resulting lattice strain. To validate the simulation results, we further used the model to simulate high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) diffraction profiles, which were experimentally matched with alpha manganese FFTs identified using HRTEM. The study presents a comprehensive approach to understanding the effects of radiation damage on materials, particularly the unique properties of the alpha manganese structure as a function of isotropic strain. The findings can help develop better models for simulating radiation-induced defects and their effects on materials, which could have significant implications for various technological applications, including developing nuclear reactor core materials.

Background: Cyproheptadine is an easily available over-the-counter first-generation antihistaminic that is often used as an appetite stimulant. Although it is usually a safe drug, rare instances of drug-induced liver injury may occur. Case presentation: We report a case of cholestatic liver injury secondary to cyproheptadine in a young pharmacy student with chronic hepatitis B and review the literature of cyproheptadine-induced liver injury. Conclusion: Although cyproheptadine is largely a safe drug, its potential for significant liver toxicity cannot be ignored.

Kidney stone disease, also known as nephrolithiasis or urolithiasis, is a disorder in which urinary solutes precipitate to form aggregates of crystalline material in the urinary space. The incidence of nephrolithiasis has been increasing, and the demographics have been evolving. Once viewed as a limited disease with intermittent exacerbations that are simply managed by urologists, nephrolithiasis is now recognized as a complex condition requiring thorough evaluation and multifaceted care. Kidney stones are frequently manifestations of underlying systemic medical conditions such as the metabolic syndrome, genetic disorders, or endocrinopathies. Analysis of urine chemistries and stone composition provide a window into pathogenesis and direct ancillary studies to uncover underlying diseases. These studies allow providers to devise individualized strategies to limit future stone events. Given its complexity, kidney stone disease is best addressed by a team led by nephrologists and urologists with input from multiple other health professionals including dietitians, endocrinologists, interventional radiologists, and endocrine surgeons. In this installment of AJKD’s Core Curriculum in Nephrology, we provide a case-based overview of nephrolithiasis, divided by the individual stone types. The reader will gain a pragmatic understanding of the pathophysiology, evaluation, and management of this condition.

IMPORTANCE: Systematic data on the association between anticancer therapies and thromboembolic events (TEEs) in patients with COVID-19 are lacking. OBJECTIVE: To assess the association between anticancer therapy exposure within 3 months prior to COVID-19 and TEEs following COVID-19 diagnosis in patients with cancer. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This registry-based retrospective cohort study included patients who were hospitalized and had active cancer and laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection. Data were accrued from March 2020 to December 2021 and analyzed from December 2021 to October 2022. EXPOSURE: Treatments of interest (TOIs) (endocrine therapy, vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitors/tyrosine kinase inhibitors [VEGFis/TKIs], immunomodulators [IMiDs], immune checkpoint inhibitors [ICIs], chemotherapy) vs reference (no systemic therapy) in 3 months prior to COVID-19. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES: Main outcomes were (1) venous thromboembolism (VTE) and (2) arterial thromboembolism (ATE). Secondary outcome was severity of COVID-19 (rates of intensive care unit admission, mechanical ventilation, 30-day all-cause mortality following TEEs in TOI vs reference group) at 30-day follow-up. RESULTS: Of 4988 hospitalized patients with cancer (median [IQR] age, 69 [59-78] years; 2608 [52%] male), 1869 had received 1 or more TOIs. Incidence of VTE was higher in all TOI groups: endocrine therapy, 7%; VEGFis/TKIs, 10%; IMiDs, 8%; ICIs, 12%; and chemotherapy, 10%, compared with patients not receiving systemic therapies (6%). In multivariable log-binomial regression analyses, relative risk of VTE (adjusted risk ratio [aRR], 1.33; 95% CI, 1.04-1.69) but not ATE (aRR, 0.81; 95% CI, 0.56-1.16) was significantly higher in those exposed to all TOIs pooled together vs those with no exposure. Among individual drugs, ICIs were significantly associated with VTE (aRR, 1.45; 95% CI, 1.01-2.07). Also noted were significant associations between VTE and active and progressing cancer (aRR, 1.43; 95% CI, 1.01-2.03), history of VTE (aRR, 3.10; 95% CI, 2.38-4.04), and high-risk site of cancer (aRR, 1.42; 95% CI, 1.14-1.75). Black patients had a higher risk of TEEs (aRR, 1.24; 95% CI, 1.03-1.50) than White patients. Patients with TEEs had high intensive care unit admission (46%) and mechanical ventilation (31%) rates. Relative risk of death in patients with TEEs was higher in those exposed to TOIs vs not (aRR, 1.12; 95% CI, 0.91-1.38) and was significantly associated with poor performance status (aRR, 1.77; 95% CI, 1.30-2.40) and active/progressing cancer (aRR, 1.55; 95% CI, 1.13-2.13). CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: In this cohort study, relative risk of developing VTE was high among patients receiving TOIs and varied by the type of therapy, underlying risk factors, and demographics, such as race and ethnicity. These findings highlight the need for close monitoring and perhaps personalized thromboprophylaxis to prevent morbidity and mortality associated with COVID-19–related thromboembolism in patients with cancer.

Background: Social media is an important tool for networking, recruitment, and promoting clinical practice. No study has specifically assessed which FPRS practitioners have professional social media accounts, how they utilize them, and what barriers or resources exist to their use.Objectives: This study aims to examine differences in social media use based on provider demographics and practice setting, and identify resources and barriers to professional social media use.Methods: This cross-sectional analysis was an anonymous survey sent to AAFPRS members. Data collected included demographics, practice setting, resources, and barriers encountered to use of professional social media.Results: Most facial plastic surgeons (80%) use professional social media, notably Instagram and Facebook, and mostly post patient photos and stories (67.9%). Social media is more commonly utilized in private practice (56% vs 23%, P= .0016), where there are less institutional barriers (10% vs 40%, P= .02) and more resources available (82.5% vs 12.5%, P= .01).Conclusions: Social media is widely used in FPRS. Working in private practice is associated with increased availability of resources for support, and a reduction in institutional barriers to maintaining a social media presence. With this understanding, facial plastic surgeons can be better equipped for networking, marketing, and promoting the field of FPRS.

Abstract:A hybrid piece of prose interspersed with blank pages, which details the feud between rival poets Pishtaq and Muqarnas in the spring of 1518. The town mayor serves as match officiant, settling on a "3:3" format: three exchanges of three-line poems, where the first line of each poem was "set" by the officiant. Pishtaq's poems were met with applause, whereas Muqarnas' were received less favorably. The exact winner of this match is to this day unknown.

Democracy has become an accepted lexicon among ruling elites and the general public through the twentieth century. However, there are also doubts about its strength in the current century. Looking at survey data, this article attempts a first-cut analysis of citizens’ commitment to democracy. Taking an elected government as the primary principle of democracy, do citizens make concessions to non-elected decision-making processes? This article focuses on the five countries of South Asia to answer this question and arrives at the conclusion that there is often a large gap between a broader acceptance of democratic government as a principle and the more nuanced acceptance of democratic government as a necessary element of democracy.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to the role of bonding and bridging social capital of women entrepreneurs in dealing with the business crisis induced by the COVID-19 pandemic. Design/methodology/approach: A total of 24 women entrepreneurs from Deoria district from the state of Uttar Pradesh in India are selected through the snowball sampling technique. Out of these 24 female entrepreneurs, 14 belong to some network and 10 are not a part of any network. A qualitative methodology based upon in-depth personal interviews is used to get insights about the personal views of the female entrepreneurs on the role played by their bonding and bridging social capital to deal with the problems during the current business crisis. Findings: Contrary to the general belief that women-owned businesses succumb easily to business crises and respond to reduce risks, the findings suggest that women business owners confidently faced the adverse business conditions. The bonding social capital of women entrepreneurs provided emotional support and motivation through internal interactions and responsibility sharing, and business networks (bridging capital) facilitated identification of new opportunities. The respondents emphatically mentioned the role of peer entrepreneurs as sources of information and resources. Originality/value: To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first study in the Indian context that seeks to investigate the role of bonding and bridging social capital during the business crisis induced by the current pandemic using qualitative data generated through in-depth interviews.
