The human brain has its own microbiome, consisting of bacteria, viruses, and fungi, which has the potential to reverse symptoms of neurodegenerative diseases like dementia. Research has shown that certain pathogens, such as the herpes simplex virus and bacteria associated with gum disease, are prevalent in the brains of people with dementia. The brain's microbiome may play a role in other neurological conditions as well, such as Parkinson's disease. Potential treatments include antiviral medications and vaccines, which have shown promise in reducing the risk of developing dementia. However, there is still much to learn about the brain's microbiome and its impact on health. [Extracted from the article]
