Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at Sichuan University in Chengdu, China, explores the co-infection of Candida albicans and Staphylococcus aureus, which often leads to higher mortality rates. The researchers established a mouse model of subcutaneous infection to study the inflammation induced by co-infection. They found that S. aureus wraps around C. albicans and promotes its growth, while neutrophils primarily rely on phagocytosis to kill S. aureus. The study highlights the potential of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) as therapeutic targets for the treatment of co-infections. [Extracted from the article]
