Overestimation of risk is one of the main problems in environmental risk assessments if only total concentration of organic pollutants is considered. In this study, we integrated bioavailability measurements into persistence testing of pollutants in soil to show that it is the key to have a more realistic environmental risk assessment (ERA). To this integration, two standardized methods were used: OECD 307, as persistence test, and ISO 16751: 2020, to bioavailability measurements based on 20 h extractions with a strong adsorbent (Tenax), using pyrene and carbamazepine as model test substances. Because the ISO method was initially designed for nonpolar compounds with log Kow > 3, a slight adaptation was necessary for carbamazepine (log Kow = 2.7), assuming this also as an extension of the applicability domain of the method. During the biodegradation of these compounds, the mineralization extents did not exceed 4 %, giving rise to transformation products. Therefore, the bioavailability measurements covered both the parent compound and the metabolites produced. In the case of pyrene, the partial transformation carried out by a specialized microbial inoculum accounted for, respectively, 32 % or 40 % of the initial concentration (4 mg kg−1) in unamended or compost-amended soil. Only 1 % was present as hydrophilic transformation products that were not trapped by Tenax, but partitioned into the water. The nonbioavailable residue increased in both soils after biodegradation. The distribution of chemicals in the different phases of the system was the key to assess more realistically the shifts in bioavailability during persistence testing. The same procedure was carried out for carbamazepine where an additional desorption study showed a slower desorption rate of the parent compound after incubation. We introduce a non-orthogonal configuration interaction approach to investigate nuclear quantum effects on energies and densities of confined fermionic nuclei. The Hamiltonian employed draws parallels between confined systems and many-electron atoms, where effective non-Coulombic potentials represent the interactions of the trapped particles. One advantage of this method is its generality, as it offers the potential to study the nuclear quantum effects of various confined species affected by effective isotropic or anisotropic potentials. As a first application, we analyze the quantum states of two 3He atoms encapsulated in C60. At the Hartree–Fock level, we observe the breaking of spin and spatial symmetries. To ensure wavefunctions with the correct symmetries, we mix the broken-symmetry Hartree–Fock states within the non-orthogonal configuration interaction expansion. Our proposed approach predicts singly and triply degenerate ground states for the singlet (para-3He2@C60) and triplet (ortho-3He2@C60) nuclear spin configurations, respectively. The ortho-3He2@C60 ground state is 5.69 cm−1 higher in energy than the para-3He2@C60 ground state. The nuclear densities obtained for these states exhibit the icosahedral symmetry of the C60 embedding potential. Importantly, our calculated energies for the lowest 85 states are in close agreement with perturbation theory results based on a harmonic oscillator plus rigid rotor model of 3He2@C60.

Introduction The industrial area of ​​construction in Colombia is an interesting sector of finance, as well as one of the tasks with the highest accident rate, according to the statistics carried out annually by the Colombian Insurance Institute, which from 2017 to the end of 2020 is the area with the most fatal accidents, while Uruguay refers to a work accident to any physical injury suffered by the collaborator due to the activities carried out by the collaborator. Resultados É claro que, embora a Colômbia seja forte em termos de segurança e saúde no trabalho, o número de acidentes na área industrial continua muito elevado: 6,4/100. Por outro lado, a percentagem de acidentes no Uruguai varia constantemente a cada ano, registra enormes 87 por cento nos últimos quatro anos.

This article is the result of the research project “Voices of obedience and resistance: intergenerational narratives of childhood”, and delves into the concern about the silencing, concealment, and ignorance of childhoods as subjects of moral judgment, agency, and resistance. In this sense, it proposes a reading of childhoods from intergenerational memory, with the intention of understanding the transformations in the ways of interpreting obedience and in the actions of resistance to said silencing, as well as the imposition of ways of life and thought. Through the ambiguous unfinished condition of certain of Michelangelo Buonarroti's works, this text explores his experiments with time and matter, taken as instruments of a conscious project. From an unknown ephemeral ice sculpture in the Palazzo Medici to his last work, the Rondanini Pietà, Michelangelo explores the limits of stone on a path that leads him from the perfection of polished marble to the abstraction of the rough block. A chronological record of his works reveals the infirmities of age, as if the sculptures were an extension of himself, from the adolescent face of the Vatican Pietà to the physical deformation of the series of Slaves in the tomb of Julius II. Centuries after his death, heritage dilemmas resound, such as the accommodation of the Rondanini in the Castello Sforzesco in Milan, which led to an initial project by the BBPR studio and a later relocation in which Álvaro Siza participated unsuccessfully, or the protection of the works of the Academy in Florence and the Pushkin Museum in Moscow during the Allied bombings of the Second World War by means of ephemeral systems that rescue the liminal condition of the works under construction. El proyecto “Dialogyca: formación en pensamiento analítico y conciencia crítica” retoma una línea establecida en proyectos anteriores, “Dialogyca en el mundo real y virtual” y “Dialogyca: los diálogos como punto de encuentro filológico entre lenguas y culturas”. La base reside en el trabajo realizado desde hace más de una década por el Grupo de estudios de Prosa hispánica Bajomedieval y Renacentista (eProMyR) del Instituto Universitario Menéndez Pidal, que ha considerado esencial, desde sus inicios, establecer relaciones de confluencia entre investigación, docencia y transferencia de conocimiento. This paper presents a set of undertaken actions for characterizing masonry arch bridges using data structure suitable for proper embedment in Digital Twins and Heritage Building Information Modelling (HBM). Interfaces in bridge maintenance are relentlessly and increasingly sophisticated. For both new and existing bridges, these interfaces are tending towards their ability to deal with different sources of information. Comprehensive digital twins of heritage masonry arch bridges may include several sources of information gathered from the real asset. Measurements can be taken using many different techniques ranging from contact to contactless and from non-destructive to moderately destructive samples. In addition, these twins may base upon different numerical models aimed at predicting and anticipating the present and future behaviors of the asset, respectively. Masonry arch bridges are known for their complex material and structural characteristics. Digitizing these masonry properties is key for effective simulation and analysis, often involving homogenization of diverse material properties. The design of comprehensive information constructs able to store and federate multiple data layers within a single entity is still challenging. Layers must be connected using vast scoped solutions such as knowledge graphs, integrating measurements, simulations and other information sources. In this particular case study on a masonry arch bridge located in Catalonia, Spain, in-situ Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) data is conceptualized for proper infusion within HBIM schemas. Digital Twins (DT) represent a technology that provides a way to encompass useful information of built assets for the sake of productivity enhancement in the AECO sector. Its adoption in the industry is still at early developmental stages. Significant strides have been made in establishing frameworks and workflows for effective DT implementation. This paper analyzes a case study in which a DT of a built bridge is developed during the particular episode of a load test, to understand how structural design can benefit (and potentially adapt) to the specific demands this innovative technology may generate. The bridge under twinning was already built and its design was neither determined nor influenced by the fact that load testing procedures were meant to be twinned. By identifying the link between the development of the DT of the bridge and its design, a conceptual diagram illustrates the key components to consider during the structural design phase. The main objective of this diagram is to present an encompassed vision of design that already accounts for the future existence of the DT of the asset, beyond the delivery of a BIM model. The implementation of the proposed diagram for the case study is described. Colombia ranked 52nd out of 113 countries in terms of affordability, availability, quality, and safety of food and natural resources, according to the Global Food Security Index (GFSI). This reality motivated the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences at CES University (Medellín, Colombia) to participate in the Learning Design and Education for Sustainable Development Bootcamp, designed by the Association for Learning Design and Education for Sustainable Development (ALDEDS) and delivered in collaboration with UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC), Manchester Metropolitan University, the American University of Sharjah and the Open University in the United Kingdom. Participation in the Bootcamp enabled the development of institutional strategies and the establishment of institutional capacity at the university, including qualified personnel experienced in replication, implementation instruments, and designed monitoring for the implementation of the ConSentido Project Development. The project aims to improve the quality of life in rural communities from Jericó (Antioquia, Colombia) through the implementation of sustainable practices in the use of natural resources and the strengthening of local populations' capacities. Students from the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences actively participate in this project, collaborating in the execution of actions and promoting sustainable development in the region. The achievement of the learning objective is structured through a progressive advancement of four learning outcomes, starting from the ability to analyse a real situation, prioritize, and design an educational intervention, and eventually reaching its implementation and evaluation. The 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole (BTD) unit is a prominent building block commonly used in various research areas such as optoelectronics and bioimaging. Despite its great versatility, the development of strategies to elaborate BTD has been largely neglected, including exploring its reactivity and understanding how regioselective functionalization can be used to tune the fluorescence emission. Previous focus has primarily been on C4- or C4,C7-substitutions. Here, a series of unsymmetrical mono – and disubstituted BTDs was synthesized and characterized for their photophysical properties. The reaction scope includes all six possible substituent patterns on the BTD benzoid ring (C4-, C5-, C4,C5-, C4,C6-, C4,C7- and C5,C6-substitution), which comprise arrangements that previously been synthetically challenging to access. By introducing a methoxy and/or a phenyl group we demonstrate that the emissive behavior of BTD derivatives strongly depends on the position of the substituent (s). We show that regioselective substitution on BTD can engender long-lived fluorescence and circumvent strong fluorescence quenching in polar protic solvents, which is a limitation of many previously described BTD derivatives.

Despite growing interest in 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole (BTD) as an integral component of many functional molecules, methods for the functionalization of its benzenoid ring have remained limited, and many even simply decorated BTDs have required de novo synthesis. We show that regioselective Ir-catalyzed C–H borylation allows access to versatile 5-boryl or 4,6-diboryl BTD building blocks, which undergo functionalization at the C4, C5, C6, and C7 positions. The optimization and regioselectivity of C–H borylation are discussed. A broad reaction scope is presented, encompassing ipso substitution at the C–B bond, the first examples of ortho-directed C–H functionalization of BTD, ring closing reactions to generate fused ring systems, as well as the generation and capture reactions of novel BTD-based heteroarynes. The regioselectivity of the latter is discussed with reference to the Aryne Distortion Model.

Photoluminescent materials have captivated the interest of scientists for hundreds of years. Nowadays photoluminescent materials find applications in a variety of fields as light harvesting materials, chemosensors, biological imaging agents, and more. This thesis explores the synthesis and photophysical properties of luminescent molecules derived from a central core structure of 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole. The use of a particular luminescent agent for a purpose is predicated on its specific properties. For example, bioimaging agents should not have their emission quenched in an aqueous environment. Chemosensors should have distinct spectral responses with and without analyte, and light harvesting materials should be photostable. To this end it is imperative to understand these properties, how they can be modified, and how to chemically synthesize these luminophores in efficient and simple ways. This thesis briefly describes some common steady-state and time-resolved luminescence measurements. Some historical context as to the discovery, known chemistry, and electronic transitions of 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole is then explored. The focus is then placed on the newly synthesized and characterized compounds. Aurated benzothiadiazole derivatives were prepared. Their steady-state and time-resolved luminescent properties were studied in solution and frozen matrices at 77 K. These compounds proved to be bright phosphors at room temperature in solution. This occurred as a function of the direct ligation of the AuI centre to the benzothiadiazole backbone. The role of the various ligands studied seemed minimal, and the luminescence was contingent on the direct connection of the heteroarene moiety to the AuI atom. New compounds based on 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole were synthesised thanks to a methodology based on Ir-catalysed C–H activation. This methodology has made it possible to introduce boronate functionalities at classically non-reactive positions on the benzothiadiazole backbone. The

Through all these works, we continue to reflect from the present on the idea of the open work, which channels our architectural reflections on architecture, materiality and time.

El objetivo principal de este proyecto es diseñar y dimensionar una planta dedicada a la producción de helado en Alovera (Guadalajara) que pueda producir anualmente 4.650.000 litros de helado. También se pretende llegar hasta el mayor número de consumidores de helado que sea posible y para ello, tanto la formulación como la presentación tendrán la finalidad de satisfacer los gustos y necesidades de este gran público. Además de asegurar estándares como la calidad y la seguridad alimentaria, también se pretende maximizar la eficiencia y la sostenibilidad del proceso aprovechando las nuevas tecnologías y técnicas de producción.

El 6G es la sexta generación de comunicaciones móviles ideada con el objetivo de superar las capacidades del 5G en términos de velocidad de transmisión, capacidad de red, eficiencia energética, latencia y fiabilidad. Sin embargo, en la actualidad todavía se encuentra en las primeras etapas de desarrollo. Esta nueva generación abrirá las puertas a la conectividad global entre los dispositivos, y al desarrollo de avances disruptivos en áreas como la medicina, educación, defensa e industria entre otros. Para soportar las enormes demandas de datos que se anticipan en el 6G y evitar la congestión del espectro utilizado por las generaciones actuales, se requerirá la asignación de nuevas bandas de frecuencia en el espectro radioeléctrico. Otra solución innovadora que se contempla es el uso de las comunicaciones ópticas inalámbricas. Este conjunto de tecnologías utiliza un amplio rango de frecuencias que se extienden desde los rayos ultravioleta hasta los infrarrojos. Entre sus principales ventajas, cabe destacar que no requieren de licencias específicas de uso y son prácticamente inmunes a las interferencias electromagnéticas. De entre todas ellas, se ha escogido la tecnología FSO como principal fuente de estudio en el TFG ya que se posiciona como una alternativa prometedora capaz de ofrecer altas tasas de transmisión, seguridad y confiabilidad para enlaces punto a punto bidireccionales. El presente trabajo de investigación tuvo como objetivo principal comprender las transformaciones en las prácticas pedagógicas que desarrolla una agente educativa mediante la implementación de la estrategia pedagógica “Juntos construyamos el camino hacia la paz” para promover la cultura de paz y mejorar la convivencia en el nivel de Infancia Temprana del Hogar Infantil Mi Tesoro Escondido en el municipio de Vianí Cundinamarca. Esta actividad investigativa presenta un enfoque cualitativo, con un diseño de Investigación Acción Educativa que, por medio de su espiral de ciclos, permitió realizar el diagnóstico, análisis, evaluación y reflexión de la práctica pedagógica. Las técnicas e instrumentos utilizados para la recolección de datos, fueron la autoobservación, el diario de campo y el grupo focal. La información acopiada fue analizada a través de una codificación abierta que proporciona hallazgos y resultados tales como; la importancia de transformar la práctica pedagógica, para promover la participación infantil, la motivación, el control de emociones y generar aprendizajes significativos en la primera infancia. A través de la reflexión crítica de la práctica se visibilizó una transformación significativa de las niñas y los niños en los procesos de enseñanza y aprendizaje. A su vez, la investigación permitió identificar que la transformación de la práctica pedagógica es posible mediante el análisis y reflexión crítica de la cotidianidad del aula. Para esto es importante tener en cuenta el contexto de la educación inicial, las necesidades, intereses, características propias y familiares de cada niña y niño.

Producción Científica, Metal-doped carbonaceous materials have garnered significant attention in recent years due to their versatile applications in various fields, including catalysis, energy storage, environmental remediation, electronics, and sensors, as well as reinforcement. This study investigates the synthesis and characterization of a composite material featuring a carbonaceous matrix doped with copper, focusing on the thermolysis of glycine as a precursor. The synthesis methodology involved utilizing glycine and copper acetate monohydrate in varying ratios, with the mixture subjected to heating in ceramic crucibles at temperatures ranging from 450 to 550 °C, with pyrolysis yields over the 5 to 39% interval. The pristine and Cu-doped samples obtained at 500 °C underwent characterization using a diverse array of techniques, including scanning and transmission electron microscopies, multi-elemental analysis by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, CHNS elemental analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, infrared and Raman spectroscopies, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, and terahertz time-domain spectroscopy, along with conductivity measurements. Under optimized conditions, copper (at 6.5%) was present primarily in the free metallic form, accompanied by traces of tenorite (CuO) and cuprite (Cu2O). The carbonaceous matrix exhibited a 6:1 ratio of graphitic carbon to a carbon-nitrogen compound with the formula C2H2N2O2, such as isomers of diazetidinedione, according to multi-elemental analysis results. Conductivity measurements disclosed a significant increase in conductivity compared to the product of glycine thermolysis, showcasing the enhanced electrical properties of the new composite. Additionally, terahertz measurements showed the potential of the material as a broadband absorber for the fabrication of terahertz devices and provided compelling evidence of a significant improvement in radiation absorption upon copper doping. One foundational assumption of trait-based ecology is that traits can predict species demography. However, the links between traits and demographic rates are, in general, not as strong as expected. These weak associations may be due to the use of traits that are distantly related to performance, and/or the lack of consideration of size-related variations in both traits and demographic rates. Here, we examined how wood traits were related to demographic rates in 19 tree species from a lowland forest in eastern Amazonia. We measured 11 wood traits (i.e. structural, anatomical and chemical traits) in sapling, juvenile and adult wood; and related them to growth and mortality rates (MR) at different ontogenetic stages. The links between wood traits and demographic rates changed during tree development. At the sapling stage, relative growth rates (RGR) were negatively related to wood specific gravity (WSG) and total parenchyma fractions, while MR decreased with radial parenchyma fractions, but increased with vessel lumen area (VA). Juvenile RGR were unrelated to wood traits, whereas juvenile MR were negatively related to WSG and axial parenchyma fractions. At the adult stage, RGR scaled with VA and wood potassium concentrations. Adult MR were not predicted by any trait. Overall, the strength of the trait-demography associations decreased at later ontogenetic stages. Our results indicate that the associations between traits and demographic rates can change as trees age. Also, wood chemical or anatomical traits may be better predictors of growth and MR than WSG. Our findings are important to expand our knowledge on tree life-history variations and community dynamics in tropical forests, by broadening our understanding on the links between wood traits and demography during tree development.

In this research, the aim is to identify the most prevalent diseases in the central area of ​​the municipality, which are caused by the feces of the birds present in said place. In addition, it seeks to establish preventive measures that contribute to reducing the impact of biological risk. This descriptive exploratory study aims to analyze the impact that the environmental problems in the central area of ​​the Municipality of Tibú, Norte de Santander, Colombia, have on the quality of life of its inhabitants, from the perspective of the latter and how they have faced the situation. The research is framed in a quantitative, field and descriptive level approach. To collect the necessary information, semi-structured interviews were carried out with the selected population. The analysis of these interviews was carried out using open coding of the Empirically Grounded Theory. The results obtained reveal that the environmental problem has caused serious damage to the quality of life of the residents of the sector, mainly affecting their physical environment, health, economy, customs and social relationships. Although the residents of the area organized and mobilized to confront the situation, they encountered obstacles such as the power of local companies, the lack of government support, and hopelessness in the absence of effective solutions. Este estudio exploratorio descriptivo tiene como objetivo analizar el impacto que la problemática ambiental en la zona céntrica del Municipio de Tibú, Norte de Santander, Colombia, tiene en la calidad de vida de sus habitantes, desde la perspectiva de estos últimos y cómo han enfrentado la situación. La investigación se enmarca en un enfoque cuantitativo, de campo y de nivel descriptivo. Para recopilar la información necesaria, se llevaron a cabo entrevistas semi-estructuradas aplicadas a la población seleccionada. El análisis de dichas entrevistas se realizó mediante codificación abierta de la Teoría Empíricamente Fundamentada. Los resultados obtenidos revelan que la problemática ambiental ha ocasionado graves perjuicios en la calidad de vida de los residentes del sector, afectando principalmente su entorno físico, salud, economía, costumbres y relaciones sociales. A pesar de que los habitantes de la zona se organizaron y movilizaron para hacer frente a la situación, se encontraron con obstáculos como el poder de las empresas locales, la falta de respaldo gubernamental y la desesperanza ante la ausencia de soluciones efectivas. En la fase final del estudio, se aborda la problemática ambiental como un problema social y se discuten las implicaciones que esto tiene en las políticas públicas.

This paper describes and analyzes how interventions by school conciliation agents and mediators reduces violence and contributes to the transformation of conflict management among children and adolescents. A case study was carried out in four schools in the municipalities of Villamaría, Palestina, Neira, and Chinchiná in department of Caldas, Colombia. This research drew on a conceptual approach to the categories of conflict resolution, peaceful coexistence in schools and a culture of peace. The authors conclude that the pedagogical practices of conciliation and mediation for conflict resolution in classroom settings provide educational actors with tools that counterbalance traditional punishment models while fostering respect and tolerance among students., O artigo descreve e analisa de que maneira a intervenção de conciliadores e mediadores escolares incide na diminuição da violência, contribuindo com a transformação da gestão dos conflitos de crianças e adolescentes. Para isso, realiza-se um estudo de caso em quatro instituições educativas dos municípios de Villamaría, Palestina, Neira e Chinchiná no departamento de Caldas, Colômbia e se apresenta uma aproximação conceitual das categorias de resolução de conflitos, convivência escolar e cultura e paz. This study describes both experimentally and theoretically an important hitherto undiscovered feature of the scattering of micron-sized spherical objects when illuminated with highly focused circularly polarized light. This is a regime of high experimental relevance which has not been described in full detail. The experiments are complemented with the analytical formulas explaining the field scattered directed toward the backward hemispace. In particular, it is proven that this field shows a very regular oscillatory dependency with the optical size. This phenomenon is typically hidden in the total scattered field, as the field is scattered much less toward the backward hemisphere than toward the forward one. These regular oscillations are measured experimentally. It is proven that, by analyzing them, it is possible to determine the index of refraction of isolated micron-sized particles, opening new paths for applications in sensing and metrology.

The dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 transmission are influenced by a variety of factors, including social restrictions and the emergence of distinct variants. In this study, we delve into the origins and dissemination of the Alpha, Delta, and Omicron variants of concern in Galicia, northwest Spain. For this, we leveraged genomic data collected by the EPICOVIGAL Consortium and from the GISAID database, along with mobility information from other Spanish regions and foreign countries. Our analysis indicates that initial introductions during the Alpha phase were predominantly from other Spanish regions and France. However, as the pandemic progressed, introductions from Portugal and the USA became increasingly significant. Notably, Galicia’s major coastal cities emerged as critical hubs for viral transmission, highlighting their role in sustaining and spreading the virus. This research emphasizes the critical role of regional connectivity in the spread of SARS-CoV-2 and offers essential insights for enhancing public health strategies and surveillance measures.

Analysis of the transcriptomes and chromatin accessibility of multiple developmental stages of the indirect-developing hemichordate Ptychodera flava. After the individual analysis of each sample, integration of ATACseq and RNAseq data was performed in order to reconstruct genetic and regulatory networks. These data were also compared to other species, what could shed light on deuterostome evolution.

Genetic analysis of 111 samples from ceviche cocktails and fish fillets used for ceviche, obtained from fish markets and processing plants in the Pacific zone of Panama were conducted to determine species composition, trace origin (native, nonnative or imported frozen species) and CITES species status. A total of 21 species were detected (20 fishes and one invertebrate): Coryphaena hippurus (dolphin fish), Pangasianodon hypophthalmus (basa), Trachinotus falcatus (pompano), Cyclopsetta querna (toothed flounder), Atheresthes stomias (arrow-tooth flounder), Lobotes pacificus (Pacific tripletail), Bagre panamensis (Chihuil sea-catfish), B. bagre (Coco sea-catfish), Ariopsis seemanni (Tete sea-catfish), Aspistor luniscutis (yellow sea-catfish), Centropomus viridis (white snook), C. undecimalis (Union snook), Sphyrae naensis (Mexican barracuda), Oreochromis niloticus (Nile tilapia), O. mossambicus (Mozambique tilapia), Cynoscion praedatorius (Boccone weakfish), Protonibea diacanthus (blackspotted croaker), Gadus chalcogrammus (Alaska pollock), Sphyrna lewini (scalloped hammerhead shark), Makaira nigricans (blue marlin) and Dosidicus gigas (giant Humbolt squid). Native species found in ceviche samples were reduced in numbers compared with imported and cultivated ones. Thus, the most common detected fish species was basa, followed by the Nile tilapia and the dolphin fish. This is a positive result in terms of sustainability of local fisheries, since basa is imported as frozen fish meat from Asia. The same applies for Nile tilapia, a cultivated freshwater species not captured from local fisheries. For the dolphin fish, despite being common and exploited in Pacific waters, previous studies suggest its fishery is sustainable in Panama waters. In terms of conservation status, one species cataloged by IUCN as vulnerable (VU), the blue marlin (M. nigricans) and one as critically endangered (CR), the scalloped hammerhead shark (S. lewini) were detected. The present paper is devoted to a study of the equilibrium configurations of slowly rotating anisotropic stars in the framework of general relativity. For that purpose, we provide the equations of structure where the rotation is treated to second order in the angular velocity. These equations extend those first derived by Hartle for slowly rotating isotropic stars. As an application of the new formalism, we study the rotational properties of Bowers-Liang fluid spheres. A result of particular interest is that the ellipticity and mass quadrupole moment are negative for certain highly anisotropic configurations, thus such systems are prolate rather than oblate. Many of the world's workers rely on digital platforms for their income. In Venezuela, a nation grappling with extreme inflation and where most of the workforce is self-employed, data production platforms for machine learning have emerged as a viable opportunity for many to earn a flexible income in US dollars. Platform workers are deeply interconnected within a vast network of firms and entities that act as intermediaries for wage payments in digital currencies and its subsequent conversion to the national currency, the bolivar. Past research on embeddedness has noted that being intertwined in multi-tiered socioeconomic networks of companies and individuals can offer significant rewards to social participants, while also connoting a particular set of limitations. This paper furnishes qualitative evidence regarding how this deep embeddedness impacts platform workers in Venezuela. Given the backdrop of a national crisis and rampant hyperinflation, the perks of receiving wages through various financial platforms include access to a more stable currency and the ability to save and invest outside the national financial system. However, relying on numerous digital and local intermediaries often diminishes income due to transaction fees. Moreover, this introduces heightened financial risks, particularly due to the unpredictable nature of cryptocurrencies as an investment. The over-reliance on external financial platforms erodes worker autonomy through power dynamics that lean in favor of the platforms that set the transaction rules and prices. These findings present a multifaceted perspective on deep embeddedness in platform labor, highlighting how the rewards of financial intermediation often come at a substantial cost for the workers in unstable situations, who are saddled with escalating financial risks.

Mustard is a condiment added to a variety of foodstuffs and a frequent cause of food allergy. A new strategy for the detection of mustard allergen in food products is presented. The methodology is based on liquid chromatography analysis coupled to mass spectrometry. Mustard allergen Sin a 1 was purified from yellow mustard seeds. Sin a 1 was detected with a total of five peptides showing a linear response (lowest LOD was 5ng). Sin a 1 was detected in mustard sauces and salty biscuit (19±3mg/kg) where mustard content is not specified. Sin a 1, used as an internal standard, allowed quantification of this mustard allergen in foods. A novel LC/MS/MS SRM-based method has been developed to detect and quantify the presence of mustard. The working conditions in which many social workers practice their profession make it very likely that they will experience high strain and burnout and low engagement. Previous research has identified different risk and protective factors of burnout and engagement. This article attempts to: (i) analyse the relationship of burnout and engagement with two job demands (role conflict and role clarity) and three personal resources (recovery experiences, problem-focused coping, and emotion-focused coping); (ii) examine whether these personal resources moderate the association of job demands with burnout and engagement. Participants were 448 Spanish graduate social workers. Hierarchical regression analyses showed that burnout was positively predicted by role conflict and emotion-focused coping, and was negatively predicted by role clarity and recovery experiences; overall, the inverse pattern of results was found for engagement. Furthermore, problem-focused coping and recovery moderated the association of role conflict with burnout; problem-focused coping also moderated the relationship of role conflict with engagement. Few studies have analyzed the existence of homogeneous groups (profiles) in burnout and engagement among professionals, and none in social workers. This study with 448 social workers from Spain mainly examined their profiles in burnout and engagement and the characteristics of each profile in relevant job-related variables. Cluster analyses yielded four distinct profiles: the first, Burned Out, showed high burnout and low engagement; the second, Engaged, exhibited the inverse pattern with low burnout and high engagement; the third, Both, displayed simultaneously high burnout and high engagement; the fourth, Neither, showed low burnout and low engagement. The profiles also differed greatly in work-related variables: job demands (i.e., workload and work-–family conflict), job resources (i.e., support from supervisor and coworkers), personal resources (i.e., psychological detachment and relaxation), and outcomes (i.e., intrinsic job satisfaction and intent to leave). Partindo das primeiras contribuições explícitas a partir da década de 1970, serão tratados os vínculos desta perspetiva com o serviço social. In this article an overview of the impact of the ecological approach on the subject and profession of social work will be carried out. Starting with the first explicit contributions in the 1970s, the links of this perspective to social work will be discussed. Next, we will contemplate the most complete elaborations from the 1980s, and then address their challenges and replicas, with emphasis on the eco-critical approach. The practice of teleworking is being consistently and unprecedently used across multiple work sectors, including the research one, yet the direct and mediated links of specific telework designs with productivity are unclear, and analyses at multiple levels missing. Accordingly, this study aims at exploring the mediating role of the climate for well-being and well-being outcomes in the relationship between multiple components of teleworking and scientific productivity, both at the individual and team level. Data were collected from 358 members of 48 Spanish European Research Council (ERC)granted teams. Analyses were conducted both at the individual and team level, after checking for the relevant aggregation indexes. Telework components of quantity, frequency, flexibility, and voluntariness were found to have direct and mediated significant relationships with scientific productivity, confirming the need to investigate telework with a closer focus on how it is designed and implemented in the different teams. Specifically, climate for well-being, eudaimonic wellbeing, and negative emotions were found to play a relevant role in mediating the relationship between some telework components (i.e., telework flexibility and voluntariness) and scientific productivity. Also, telework quantity and frequency were found to have, respectively, positive and negative relationship with scientific productivity. This paper summarizes the findings obtained during the development of information pipelines between a construction site and its corresponding digital twin. The case study is the construction of an office building in which independent information pipelines can track different aspects of the construction process and the aggregate result can assist managers in decision making in the form of a vaster entity: its digital twin. The digital twin prototype is designed as a recipient of information that mirror its physical building and its systems. The paper contributes with a real case in which these pipelines enable continuous monitoring and analysis of various basic parameters during construction. With a varied array of sensors installed, data was collected, organized and transmitted through a knowledge graph-based system to the digital twin dashboard. A dashboard is able to allocate many sources of data (from sensors, images or point clouds) but also, it helps visualizing data analysis that could help making informed decisions about the building during construction. The paper emphasizes the varied nature of data in construction sites as well as the importance of proper data channeling to enable multi-purpose, effective decision-making using the digital twin. Overall, the paper provides a real life insight that challenges massive implementation of digital twins within the existing construction sites for an office building. It also highlights its potential to improve productivity, resource efficiency, health and safety in construction environments. Background: This nationwide study aimed to estimate Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) prevalence in 7–9-year-old Italian children. Promoted by Italy's Ministry of Health and coordinated by the National Observatory for Autism at the National Institute of Health, it covered schools in northern (Lecco and Monza-Brianza), central (Rome and its province), and southern (Palermo and its province) regions from February 24, 2016, to February 23, 2018, using a multi-stage approach defined by the European Union's ASD network. Methods: Phase one identified ASD-diagnosed children in mainstream schools through local Ministry of Education (MoE) disability registries. Phase two had a subset of schools screen 7–9-year-olds using the Social Communication Questionnaire-Life version (SCQ-L). Those with SCQ-L scores of 15 + underwent clinical consultation for ASD symptoms, cognitive abilities, and life skills. To counter potential false negatives, 20% scoring 11–14 were randomly assessed via Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R). Results: MoE data revealed 9.8 per 1000 certified ASD children in the north, 12.2 in the central, and 10.3 in the south. In phase two, 35,823 SCQ-L questionnaires were distributed across 198 schools (northern: 11,190 in 49 schools, central: 13,628 in 87 schools, southern: 11,005 in 62 schools). Of SCQ-L respondents, 2.4% (n = 390) scored above the 15 cutoff. Among these, 100 had ASD diagnoses, and 50 had other diagnoses. Among 115 families assessed, 16.5% (n = 19) received ASD diagnoses. Conclusions: The estimated prevalence of ASD in Italy was 13.4 (11.3–16.0) per 1,000 children aged 7–9 years, with a male-to-female ratio of 4.4:1. It will guide national policies in enhancing services tailored to the specific needs of autistic children.

Purpose Within the Solve-RD project (https://solve-rd.eu/), the European Reference Network for Intellectual disability, TeleHealth, Autism and Congenital Anomalies aimed to investigate whether a reanalysis of exomes from unsolved cases based on ClinVar annotations could establish additional diagnoses. We present the results of the “ClinVar low-hanging fruit” reanalysis, reasons for the failure of previous analyses, and lessons learned. Methods Data from the first 3576 exomes (1522 probands and 2054 relatives) collected from European Reference Network for Intellectual disability, TeleHealth, Autism and Congenital Anomalies was reanalyzed by the Solve-RD consortium by evaluating for the presence of single-nucleotide variant, and small insertions and deletions already reported as (likely) pathogenic in ClinVar. Variants were filtered according to frequency, genotype, and mode of inheritance and reinterpreted. Results We identified causal variants in 59 cases (3.9%), 50 of them also raised by other approaches and 9 leading to new diagnoses, highlighting interpretation challenges: variants in genes not known to be involved in human disease at the time of the first analysis, misleading genotypes, or variants undetected by local pipelines (variants in off-target regions, low quality filters, low allelic balance, or high frequency). Conclusion The “ClinVar low-hanging fruit” analysis represents an effective, fast, and easy approach to recover causal variants from exome sequencing data, herewith contributing to the reduction of the diagnostic deadlock.

En Colombia las entidades privadas y públicas vinculan, por medio de la modalidad de contrato de prestación de servicios a los trabajadores, para que de manera independiente un contratista realice una actividad o servicio. En los últimos años la vinculación contractual, mediante esta modalidad, ha ido en ascenso, lo cual genera que en subterfugio estén concurriendo elementos esenciales para la existencia de un contrato laboral, con el fin de evadir las garantías a las que tiene derecho el trabajador mediante dicha contratación. Estos derechos son considerados ciertos e indiscutibles para la legislación laboral y no son susceptibles de ningún tipo de negociación por parte del empleador. El presente documento analiza el escenario actual y las normas que facultan la declaración de existencia de un contrato realidad en la modalidad de prestación de servicios. Estudia e investiga las normas y la jurisprudencia; al igual que, estima las circunstancias, consecuencias o perjuicios, de no cumplir con los requisitos; lo que amerita eliminar paulatinamente dicha figura. Lo anterior, al establecer las principales diferencias entre las modalidades actuales de contratación y la manera dolosa como algunos empleadores pretenden saltarse la norma estableciendo un contrato que no es coherente con la realidad. A su vez hace un estudio juicioso sobre el articulado que pretende ser aprobado en el legislativo en el periodo presidencial actual.

In recent years, many algorithmic strategies have been developed to exploit single-cell mutational profiles generated via sequencing experiments of cancer samples and return reliable models of cancer evolution. Here, we introduce the COB-tree algorithm, which summarizes the solutions explored by state-of-the-art methods for clonal tree inference, to return a unique consensus optimum branching tree. The method proves to be highly effective in detecting pairwise temporal relations between genomic events, as demonstrated by extensive tests on simulated datasets. We also provide a new method to visualize and quantitatively inspect the solution space of the inference methods, via Principal Coordinate Analysis. Finally, the application of our method to a single-cell dataset of patient-derived melanoma xenografts shows significant differences between the COB-tree solution and the maximum likelihood ones.

The productive application of motile microorganisms for degrading hydrophobic contaminants in soil is one of the most promising processes in modern remediation due to its sustainability and low cost. However, the incomplete biodegradation of the contaminants and the formation of the intermediary metabolites in the process may increase the toxicity in soil during bioremediation, and motile inoculants may mobilize the pollutants through biosorption. Therefore, controlling these factors should be a fundamental part of soil remediation approaches. The aim of this study was to evaluate the sources of risk associated with the cometabolism-based transformation of 14C-labeled pyrene by inoculated Pseudomonas putida G7 and identify ways to minimize risk. Our model scenario examined the increase in bioaccessibility to a distant source of contamination facilitated by sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) roots. A biochar trap for mobilized pollutant metabolites and bacteria has also been employed. The experimental design consisted of pots filled with a layer of sand with 14C-labeled pyrene (88 mg kg−1) as a contamination focus located several centimeters from the inoculation point. Half of the pots included a biochar layer at the bottom. The pots were incubated in a greenhouse with sunflower plants and P. putida G7 bacteria. Pots with sunflower plants showed a higher biodegradation of pyrene, its mobilization as metabolites through the percolate and the roots, and bacterial mobilization toward the source of contamination, also resulting in increased pyrene transformation. In addition, the biochar layer efficiently reduced the concentrations of pyrene metabolites collected in the leachates. Therefore, the combination of plants, motile bacteria and biochar safely reduced the risk caused by the biological transformation of pyrene.
