This study assessed the accuracy of high-risk human papillomavirus testing of BD Onclarity HPV (Onclarity) assay on vaginal self-collected FLOQSwab versus cervical samples to ensure similar accuracy to detect cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. Testing was performed on two automated platforms, BD Viper LT and BD COR, to evaluate the effect of machine and using two vaginal self-samples to analyze the influenceinfluenceinfluenceof collection, transport, and freezing-unfreezing on the results. A cervical sample and two self-samples were collected from 300 women. The first collected vaginal and the cervical sample were tested on BD Viper LT, and the second swab was frozen and subsequently tested on both automated systems. Test results on vaginal and cervical specimens were considered the index and comparator, respectively; colposcopy and histology were reference standards. Relative sensitivity for ≥CIN2 on vaginal samples analyzed versus the cervical sample was 1.01 (0.97-1.06), 1.01 (0.97-1.06), and 1.00 (0.95-1.05), for the first, second self-collected sample tested on BD VIPER LT, and second self-collected sample tested on BD COR, respectively. Relative specificity was 0.83 (0.73-0.94), 0.76 (0.67-0.87), and 0.82 (0.73-0.92) using the three different workflows. Cut-off offCut-offoptimization for human papillomavirus (HPV) positivity defined at Ct ≤38.3 for HPV16, ≤ 34.2 for HPV18, and ≤31.5 for all other types showed an increased relative specificityspecificityspecificitywith similar sensitivity. No significant difference was observed between self-samples tested with the two platforms and between first- and second-collected swabs. Here we present neuropathy estimates and describe their overlap in a large cohort of people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Methods In a large population of outpatient participants, DPN was assessed using vibration perception threshold, sural nerve function, touch, pain and thermal sensation. Definite DPN was defined by the Toronto Consensus Criteria. Painful DPN was defined by Douleur Neuropathique 4 Questions. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is associated with general- and diabetes-specific stress which has multiple adverse effects. Hence measuring stress is of great importance. An algometer measuring pressure pain sensitivity (PPS) has been shown to correlate to certain stress measures in adults. However, it has never been investigated in children and adolescents. The aim of our study was to examine associations between PPS and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), salivary cortisol and two questionnaires as well as to identify whether the algometer can be used as a clinical tool among children and adolescents with T1D. Eighty-three participants aged 6-18 years and diagnosed with T1D were included in this study with data from two study visits. Salivary cortisol, PPS and questionnaires were collected, measured, and answered on site. HbA1c was collected from medical files. We found correlations between PPS and HbA1c (rho = 0.35, P = 0.046), cortisol (rho = -0.25, P = 0.02) and Perceived Stress Scale (rho = -0.44, P = 0.02) in different subgroups based on age. Males scored higher in PPS than females (P < 0.001). We found PPS to be correlated to HbA1c but otherwise inconsistent in results. The project began in 2013 with a dual purpose: to promote more apple trees in the Danish landscape and to develop robust apple cultivars for organic growers. We collected 10.000 open-pollinated apple-seeds from 52 robust and tasty old Danish apple cultivars from our National apple gene-bank. Then we invited volunteers to sow the seeds in their private farms/gardens. More than 100 volunteered to the project in 2013. In 2019, we followed up on the trees. Approximately 50 volunteers had succeeded to grow about 2000 apple-seedlings. Since 2019, we are evaluating the robustness of the trees, disease tolerance (Apple scab (Venturia inaequalis), Apple mildew (Podosphaera leuchotricha), Apple canker (Neonectria ditissima) and Elsinoe fruit and leaf spot (Elsinoe piri)) and the quality of the fruits, as soon as the trees are fruiting. In 2020-23 we have selected for further investigations: 74 dessert apples, 17 ornamental apples, 6 cider apples, 1 columnar apple and 1 rootstock. In total 99 interesting new apples. The preliminary results of our screening of robustness and fruit quality are described.

Materials and Methods: Data were collected on all patients in Denmark undergoing radical cystectomy who were potential candidates for neoadjuvant chemotherapy from 2010 to 2015 (n = 851). A cohort before the implementation of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (Cohort 2010–12) was compared with a cohort after implementation (Cohort 2013–15). Patients in Cohort 2013–15 receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy (+NAC, n = 213) were compared with patients in Cohort 2013–15 not receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy (-NAC, n = 139). Pathological results after radical cystectomy and oncological outcomes were compared between the study cohorts. Overall survival, disease-free survival, and disease-specific survival were compared with Kaplan-Meier plots and with univariable and multivariable Cox regression. Kaplan-Meier estimates of overall survival were also performed separately for treating hospital and for pathological stage. Results: Pathological T0 (pT0) was more frequent in patients who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy: 34% versus 18% when comparing Cohort 2013–15 with Cohort 2010–12 (p < 0.001), and 46% versus 16% in +NAC compared with -NAC (p < 0.001). Overall survival, disease-free survival, and disease-specific survival at 5 years after cystectomy were not improved in Cohort 2013–15 compared with Cohort 2010–12 with adjusted hazard ratios of 1.11 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.87–1.43), 1.02 (95% CI: 0.81–1.29), and 1.06 (95% CI: 0.80–1.41), respectively. Can the mere expectation of drinking a sweeter beverage induce changes in taste perception and blood metabolism? Recent evidence has shown that sweetness perception can be altered by other senses, such as vision, audition, and olfaction. However, it is still unclear whether such crossmodal influences have a physiological basis. The present study examined how subjective mental states, such as the expectation of drinking a sweeter beverage due to colour and odour associations, may influence taste perception and metabolism. Twenty-seven healthy participants consumed two beverages containing identical sucrose and citric acid concentrations but altered in colour and aroma, namely a green, lemon-flavoured beverage and a red, strawberry-flavoured beverage. On average, the strawberry manipulation resulted in significantly higher sweetness ratings and lower sourness ratings compared to the lemon manipulation, although there were clear individual differences in the direction of sweetness enhancement. Blood glucose and insulin levels measured at −15, 0, 10, 20, 30, 45, 60 and 90 min after consumption showed no direct difference between the two beverage conditions. However, we found a significant indirect effect of perceived sweetness on insulin release, whereby consuming the beverage perceived to be sweeter resulted in higher overall levels of insulin release compared to the beverage that was less sweet. These results show a partial role of subjective sweetness perception influencing metabolism in accordance with an anticipatory budging model, suggesting that psychological intervention programs may be important for diabetes and metabolic syndrome management.

Background Approximately 15% of patients undergoing radical cystectomy (RC) develop benign ureteroenteric strictures. Of these strictures, the majority are located in the left ureter. To lower the rate of strictures, a retrosigmoid ileal conduit has been suggested. Objective To investigate the feasibility and safety of a retrosigmoid ileal conduit during robot-assisted RC in bladder cancer patients. Design, setting, and participants This randomized controlled trial included 303 patients from all five cystectomy centers in Denmark from May 2020 to August 2022. Participants were diagnosed with bladder cancer and scheduled for robot-assisted RC with an ileal conduit. Intervention Intervention group: a retrosigmoid ileal conduit was constructed using approximately 25 cm of the terminal ileum and tunneled behind the sigmoid where the left ureter was anastomosed from end to side. Control group: the conventional ileal conduit ad modum Bricker with individual end-to-side anastomoses. Outcome measurements and statistical analysis Patients were analyzed by the intention-to-treat approach. Complications within 90 d were categorized using the Clavien-Dindo grading system and compared using Fisher’s exact test. Wilcoxon’s test was used for pre- and postoperative renal function. Results and limitations Of the 149 patients randomized for the retrosigmoid ileal conduit (MOSAIC), a total of 137 (92%) patients received the allocated conduit. Postoperative complications were distributed equally between the two groups. The relative risk of Clavien-Dindo complications of grade ≥III was 1.12 (95% confidence interval: 0.96–1.31) in the intervention group compared with the control group. Conclusions The retrosigmoid ileal conduit with robot-assisted RC was technically feasible. Early postoperative complications were not significantly different when comparing the two groups. The Vaigat strait (Sullorsuaq) in West Greenland is well known for its susceptibility to landslides and historical landslide-generated tsunamis. Recent mapping of the seabed in the Vaigat strait has revealed several prehistoric giga-scale (volumes of 109 m3) tsunamigenic landslides. However, the timing of these giga-scale tsunamis is largely unconstrained, but they are assumed to have occurred after the last deglaciation. Here, we report on lake sediment core records from four coastal lakes located between 19 and 91 m above sea level (a.s.l.) on the Saqqaq foreland at the eastern end of the Vaigat strait. We use a multiproxy approach including X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and magnetic susceptibility core scanning along with a screening for marine diatoms to identify at least two tsunami deposits in two of the four sediment cores. Radiocarbon dating of aquatic macrofossils and bulk samples suggest that the tsunami events occurred at ca. 7.6 and 7.3 ka cal BP. Using a previously published relative sea level curve from Vaskebugt, Arveprinsen Ejland (Alluttoq), located 40 km southeast of Saqqaq, we infer wave runup heights of ca. 41–66 and 45–70 m, respectively, for the two tsunami events. These runup heights from prehistoric tsunamis are 1 to 2 orders of magnitude higher than the historic landslide-tsunami runup heights at Saqqaq which only reached an elevation of ca. 3 m in November 2000. While we found deposits from two tsunami events in the lake sediments, landforms from at least nine giga-scale landslides are present on the seafloor of Vaigat. We infer that these deposits probably represent the two most recent tsunamis identified in the Vaigat strait and that the older tsunamis must have happened between the last deglaciation and the oldest sediment in the lakes, i.e., between ca. 10.0 and 8.5 ka cal BP.

Studies examining the association between type 1 diabetes (T1D) and atopic diseases, i.e., atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis and asthma have yielded conflicting results due to different algorithms for classification, sample size issues and risk of referral bias of exposed cohorts with frequent contact to health care professionals. Using Danish national registries and well-established disease algorithms, we examined the bidirectional association between T1D and atopic diseases in childhood and adolescence using Cox Proportional Hazard regression compared to two different unexposed cohorts from a population of 1.5 million Danish children born from 1997 to 2018. We found no associations between T1D and atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, or asthma (defined after age five). However, in multivariable analysis we found an increased risk of persistent wheezing (defined as asthma medication before age five) after T1D with an adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) of 1.70 [1.17–2.45]. We also identified an increased risk of developing T1D after persistent wheezing with aHR of 1.24 [1.13–1.36]. This study highlights similar risks of atopic diseases in children with T1D and of T1D in children with atopic disease after age of five years versus healthy controls. Objectives Smartphone dispatch of volunteer responders for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is implemented worldwide. While basic life support courses prepare participants to provide CPR, the courses rarely address the possibility of meeting a family member or relative in crisis. This study aimed to examine volunteer responders' provision of support to relatives of cardiac arrest patients and how relatives experienced the interaction with volunteer responders. Design In this qualitative study, we conducted 16 semistructured interviews with volunteer responders and relatives of cardiac arrest patients. Setting Interviews were conducted face to face and by video and recorded and transcribed verbatim. Participants Volunteer responders dispatched to cardiac arrests and relatives of cardiac arrest patients were included in the study. Participants were included from all five regions of Denmark. Results A thematic analysis was performed with inspiration from Braun and Clarke. We identified three themes: (1) relatives' experiences of immediate relief at arrival of assistance, (2) volunteer responders' assessment of relatives' needs and (3) the advantage of being healthcare educated. Conclusions Relatives to out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients benefited from volunteer responders' presence and support and experienced the mere presence of volunteer responders as supportive. Healthcare-educated volunteer responders felt confident and skilled to provide care for relatives, while some non-healthcare-educated volunteer responders felt they lacked the proper training and knowledge to provide emotional support for relatives. Future basic life support courses should include a lesson on how to provide emotional support to relatives of cardiac arrest patients.

Background and aims: It is unclear to what extent genetic testing improves the ability to diagnose familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH). We investigated the percentage with FH among individuals referred to Danish lipid clinics, and evaluated the impact of genetic testing for a diagnosis of FH. Methods: From September 2020 through November 2021, all patients referred for possible FH to one of the 15 Danish lipid clinics were invited for study participation and >97% (n = 1488) accepted. The Dutch Lipid Clinical Network criteria were used to diagnose clinical FH. The decision of genetic testing for FH was based on local practice. Results: A total of 1243 individuals were referred, of whom 25.9% were diagnosed with genetic and/or clinical FH. In individuals genetically tested (n = 705), 21.7% had probable or definite clinical FH before testing, a percentage that increased to 36.9% after genetic testing. In individuals with unlikely and possible FH before genetic testing, 24.4% and 19.0%, respectively, had a causative pathogenic variant. Conclusions: In a Danish nationwide study, genetic testing increased a diagnosis of FH from 22% to 37% in patients referred with hypercholesterolaemia suspected of having FH. Importantly, approximately 20% with unlikely or possible FH, who without genetic testing would not have been considered having FH (and family screening would not have been undertaken), had a pathogenic FH variant. We therefore recommend a more widespread use of genetic testing for evaluation of a possible FH diagnosis and potential cascade screening.

Introduction: Smartphone technology is increasingly used to engage lay people as volunteer responders in resuscitation attempts. Attention has recently been drawn to how resuscitation attempts may impact bystanders. Attempting resuscitation in out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCA) may be an overwhelming experience and, in some cases, difficult to cope with. We developed a volunteer responder follow-up program to systematically measure the psychological and physical impact on volunteer responders dispatched for OHCAs. Methods and Results: The nationwide Danish volunteer responder program dispatches volunteer responders for presumed cardiac arrests. 90 min after notification of a potential nearby cardiac arrest, all volunteer responders receive a survey, and are asked to self-report their mental state of mind after the event. The volunteer responders are also asked to disclose any physical injury they sustained in relation to the event. Volunteer responders who report severe mental effects are offered a defusing conversation by a trained nurse. Between 1 September 2017 and 31 December 2022, the Danish volunteer responder program has alerted 177,866 volunteer responders for 10,819 presumed cardiac arrest alerts. Of 177,866 alerted volunteers responders, 62,711 accepted the alarm. In the same period, 7,317 cancelled their registration. From January 2019 to 31 December 31 2022, a total of 535 volunteer responders were offered a defusing consultation. Conclusion: The Danish volunteer responder follow-up program is carried out to assess the psychological and physical risks of responding to a suspected OHCA. We suggest a survey-based method for systematic screening of volunteer responders that allow volunteer responders to report any physical injury or need of psychological follow-up. The person providing defusing should be a trained and experienced healthcare professional.

While higher than normal glucose levels stimulate the ANS toward reduction, previous findings suggest an association between sensitivity to, or pain from, pressure at the chest bone (pressure or pain sensitivity, PPS) and activity of the ANS. A recent randomized controlled trial (RCT) of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) suggested that addition of an experimental, non-pharmacological intervention more effectively than conventional treatment lowered the levels of both PPS and HbA1c. Materials and analyses: We tested the null hypothesis that conventional treatment (n = 60) would reveal no association between baseline HbA1c and normalization of HbA1c in 6 months, related to change of PPS. We compared the changes of HbA1c in PPS reverters who experienced a minimum reduction of 15 units of PPS and in PPS non-reverters who experienced no reduction. Depending on the result, we tested the association in a second group of participants with addition of the experimental program (n = 52). Results: In the conventional group, PPS reverters experienced normalization of HbA1c that corrected the basal increase, thus disproving the null hypothesis. With the addition of the experimental program, PPS reverters experienced similar reduction. The reduction of HbA1c among reverters averaged 0.62 mmol/mol per mmol/mol increase of baseline HbA1c (P < 0.0001 compared to non-reverters). For baseline HbA1c ≥ 64 mmol/mol, reverters averaged 22% reduction of HbA1c (P < 0.01). Conclusion: In consecutive analyses of two different populations of individuals with T2DM, we demonstrated that the higher the baseline HbA1c, the greater the reduction of HbA1c but only in individuals with a concomitant reduction of sensitivity to PPS, suggesting a homeostatic effect of the autonomic nervous system on glucose metabolism. Background: In Denmark, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in pigs has been monitored since 1995 by phenotypic approaches using the same indicator bacteria. Emerging methodologies, such as metagenomics, may allow novel surveillance ways. Aim: This study aimed to assess the relevance of indicator bacteria (Escherichia coli and Enterococcus faecalis) for AMR surveillance in pigs, and the utility of metagenomics. Methods: We collated existing data on AMR and antimicrobial use (AMU) from the Danish surveillance programme and performed metagenomics sequencing on caecal samples that had been collected/stored through the programme during 1999-2004 and 2015-2018. We compared phenotypic and metagenomics results regarding AMR, and the correlation of both with AMU. Results: Via the relative abundance of AMR genes, metagenomics allowed to rank these genes as well as the AMRs they contributed to, by their level of occurrence. Across the two study periods, resistance to aminoglycosides, macrolides, tetracycline, and beta-lactams appeared prominent, while resistance to fosfomycin and quinolones appeared low. In 2015-2018 sulfonamide resistance shifted from a low occurrence category to an intermediate one. Resistance to glycopeptides consistently decreased during the entire study period. Outcomes of both phenotypic and metagenomics approaches appeared to positively correlate with AMU. Metagenomics further allowed to identify multiple time-lagged correlations between AMU and AMR, the most evident being that increased macrolide use in sow/piglets or fatteners led to increased macrolide resistance with a lag of 3-6 months. Conclusion: We validated the long-term usefulness of indicator bacteria and showed that metagenomics is a promising approach for AMR surveillance.

CONTEXT: Blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) is lower in type 1 diabetes (T1D) compared with nondiabetic controls. Hypoxia (low tissue oxygenation) is thought to be a risk factor for progression of diabetic complications, but it is unknown whether hypoxemia (low SpO2) is associated with diabetic complications. OBJECTIVE: To test if hypoxemia is associated with presence of diabetic complications in T1D. DESIGN, SETTING, AND METHODS: Cross-sectional study in persons with T1D divided by a previously suggested threshold in low (<96%) and high (≥96%) SpO2, measured in the supine position with pulse oximetry. Complications included albuminuria (2 of 3 consecutive measurements ≥30 mg/g), any diabetic retinopathy, neuropathy, and history of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Odds ratios were adjusted for age, diabetes duration, sex, smoking, physical activity, body mass index, systolic blood pressure, and blood hemoglobin. RESULTS: We included 659 persons, 23 (3.5%) with low and 636 (96.5%) with high SpO2. In total, 151 (23%) had albuminuria, 233 (36%) had retinopathy, 231 (35%) had neuropathy, and 72 (11%) had CVD. The adjusted odds ratio (95% CI, P value) for low vs high SpO2 was 3.4 (1.3-8.7, P = 0.01) for albuminuria, 2.8 (1.0-7.5, P = 0.04) for retinopathy, 5.8 (1.8-18.6, P < 0.01) for neuropathy, and nonsignificant for CVD (0.6 [0.2-2.4, P = 0.51]). CONCLUSIONS: SpO2 below 96% was associated with increased presence of albuminuria, retinopathy, and neuropathy in T1D, but not with CVD. Whether hypoxemia could be a target of intervention to prevent progression in microvascular disease in type 1 diabetes should be investigated.

Contact dermatitis because of use of diabetes devices is frequent in individuals with type 1 diabetes (TD1), especially in the pediatric age group, but the putative role of a constitutional impaired skin barrier in persons with TD1 is unclear. This study examined the skin barrier function by the measurement of natural moisturizing factor and free cytokines collected through skin tape strips, as well as biophysical markers and the skin microbiome, in persons with TD1 than to age- and sex-matched healthy controls. All measurements were done in nonlesional skin. We found that the skin barrier function was similar in children and adolescents with TD1 than to controls but found that the beta-diversity of skin microbiome at the buttock differed between the two groups. OBJECTIVE Diabetes devices that deliver insulin and measure blood glucose levels are cornerstones in modern treatment of type 1 diabetes. However, their use is frequently associated with the development of skin problems, particularly eczema and wounds. Proper skin care may prevent skin problems, yet evidence-based information from interventional studies is missing. Providing this information is the aim of this study. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS This cluster-controlled intervention study tested the efficacy of a basic skin care program (including use of lipid cream, removal, and avoidance of disinfection). A total of 170 children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes were included and assigned either to the intervention group (n = 112) or the control group (n = 58). Participants were seen quarterly the first year after device initiation, with clinical assessment and interview in an unblinded setting. RESULTS Eczema or wounds were observed in 33.6% of the intervention group compared with 46.6% of control participants (absolute difference, 12.9% [95% CI −28.7%, 2.9%]; P = 0.10). The adjusted odds of wound development were decreased by 71% in the intervention compared with control group (for wounds, odds ratio 0.29 [95% CI 0.12, 0.68]; P = 0.005). In total, only eight infections were seen, without a higher frequency in the intervention group, despite advice to omit disinfection. CONCLUSIONS These data indicate our basic skin care program partially prevented diabetes device–induced skin reactions. Irritant contact dermatitis (ICD) occurs frequently with the use of diabetes devices, but no guidelines for treatment exist. Since subsequent devices need intact skin for intended use, quick healing is crucial. Normal wound healing is expected to be 7-10 days. This was a single-center cross-over study that investigated the effectiveness of an occlusive hydrocolloid-based patch versus nonocclusive treatment of ICD. Participants were aged 6-20 years with active ICD caused by using diabetes device. First study period was patch treatment for 3 days. A control arm was initiated if a new ICD occurred within 30 days. ICD healed completely in 21% of the patch group but none in the controls. Itching was reported as an adverse event (AE) in both arms, but only one additional AE was noted in the patch arm: an infection at a different site from investigated. The hydrocolloid-based patch showed signs of faster healing of ICD with no additional AEs, but larger studies are needed.

The aim was to determine school performance and psychiatric comorbidity in children with childhood absence epilepsy (CAE). We reviewed the medical records in children with ICD-10 codes for idiopathic generalized epilepsy before 18 years of age, and pediatric neurologists confirmed the International League Against Epilepsy criteria for CAE were met. Control groups were the general pediatric population or children with non-neurological chronic disease. Outcomes were from nationwide and population-based registers on school performance and psychiatric comorbidity. We compared the mean grade point average using linear regression and estimated hazard ratios (HR) using Cox regression for the other outcomes. Analyses were adjusted for the child’s sex, and year of birth, and parental highest education, receipt of cash benefits or early disability pension. We included 114 children with CAE with a median age at onset of 5.9 years (interquartile range = 4.5–7.3 years). Compared with both population controls and non-neurological chronically ill children, children with CAE had increased hazard of special needs education (HR = 2.7, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.8–4.1, p < 0.0001), lower grade point average at 9th grade by 1.7 grade points (95% CI = -2.5 to -1.0, p < 0.001), increased ADHD medicine use (HR = 4.4, 95% CI = 2.7–7.2, p < 0.001), increased sleep medicine use (HR = 2.7, 95% CI = 1.7–4.3, p < 0.001), and increased psychiatry visits (HR = 2.1, 95% CI = 1.1–4.0, p = 0.03). Purpose of review Patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) play an important role in assessing so-called global airway disease caused by type-2 inflammation, not only in terms of patients’ perspective on symptoms and treatment/side-effect, but they can also serve as a measure of disease control, and not least as an indicator of possible coexisting comorbidity otherwise unrecognized. The objective of this review was to investigate any newly developed PROMs for global airway disease and to give an overview of the most commonly used PROMs in the management of global airway disease. Recent findings The Standard Tests for Asthma, Allergic Rhinitis and Rhinosinusitis (STARR-15) is a recently developed PROM aimed to raise clinicians’ awareness of coexisting type-2 inflammation disease. Strengths of the STARR-15 is that is quick and symptom-centered, i.e. items are not specifically aimed at a disease the patients might not be aware they have. The STARR-15 has, however, not yet been validated, so details of responsiveness and reproducibility are yet to be determined. Here in we report on the decarboxylative alkenylation between alkyl carboxylic acids and enol triflates. The reaction is mediated by a dual catalytic nickel and iridium system, operating under visible light irradiation. Two competing catalytic pathways, from the excited state iridium photocatalyst, are identified. One is energy transfer from the excited state, resulting in formation of an undesired enol ester. The desired pathway involves electron transfer, resulting in decarboxylation to ultimately give the target product. The use of a highly oxidizing iridium photocatalyst is essential to control the reactivity. A diverse array of enol triflates and alkyl carboxylic acids are investigated, providing both scope and limitations of the presented methodology.

Personas are models of users that incorporate motivations, wishes, and objectives; These models are employed in user-centred design to help design better user experiences and have recently been employed in adaptive systems to help tailor the personalized user experience. Designing with personas involves the production of descriptions of fictitious users, which are often based on data from real users. The majority of data-driven persona development performed today is based on qualitative data from a limited set of interviewees and transformed into personas using labour-intensive manual techniques. In this study, we propose a method that employs the modelling of user stereotypes to automate part of the persona creation process and addresses the drawbacks of the existing semi-automated methods for persona development. The description of the method is accompanied by an empirical comparison with a manual technique and a semi-automated alternative (multiple correspondence analysis). The results of the comparison show that manual techniques differ between human persona designers leading to different results. The proposed algorithm provides similar results based on parameter input, but was more rigorous and will find optimal clusters, while lowering the labour associated with finding the clusters in the dataset. The output of the method also represents the largest variances in the dataset identified by the multiple correspondence analysis.

Situated visualization is an emerging concept within visualization, in which data is visualized in situ, where it is relevant to people. The concept has gained interest from multiple research communities, including visualization, human-computer interaction (HCI) and augmented reality. This has led to a range of explorations and applications of the concept, however, this early work has focused on the operational aspect of situatedness leading to inconsistent adoption of the concept and terminology. First, we contribute a literature survey in which we analyze 44 papers that explicitly use the term "situated visualization" to provide an overview of the research area, how it defines situated visualization, common application areas and technology used, as well as type of data and type of visualizations. Our survey shows that research on situated visualization has focused on technology-centric approaches that foreground a spatial understanding of situatedness. Secondly, we contribute five perspectives on situatedness (space, time, place, activity, and community) that together expand on the prevalent notion of situatedness in the corpus. We draw from six case studies and prior theoretical developments in HCI. Each perspective develops a generative way of looking at and working with situatedness in design and research. We outline future directions, including considering technology, material and aesthetics, leveraging the perspectives for design, and methods for stronger engagement with target audiences. We conclude with opportunities to consolidate situated visualization research

In this paper, we present exemplarity as an alternative to the dominant evidence framework, and as the proper foundation for pedagogical reflection and action. This paper focuses attention on how exemplarity can serve to elicit and develop educational judgement. In other words, rather than evidence, teachers need good and bad examples of ways of acting and being to shape and sharpen their educational judgement. By turning to the exemplary approach, the space of reflection is widened, and educational judgement is challenged and provoked. The paper highlights how teacher judgement is formed through the challenge of examples

On December 15th 1952, at approximately 14:00 local time a mass of 5.9 × 106 m3 of permafrozen talus deposits failed in a landslide close to the Niiortuut mountain on the south coast of the Nuussuaq peninsula, central West Greenland. Between 1.8 and 4.5 × 106 m3 of the material entered the sea and generated a tsunami that propagated through the Vaigat strait (Sullorsuaq). Here we describe this catastrophic event for the first time by analysis of historical material supplemented by recent fieldwork and discuss the implications for the state of contemporary permafrozen slopes. The tsunami killed a fisherman working on the shore of southern Nuussuaq, 10 km south-east of the landslide. In the mining town of Qullissat, 30 km south of the landslide, it had a runup height of 2.2–2.7 m and caused minor material damage. Morphological evidence show that the basal surface of rupture was 80 m inside the permafrost cemented talus slope, whose degradation was a dynamic conditioning factor for the landslide. The 1952 Niiortuut landslide is the first historically recorded event of permafrost degradation induced landslide-tsunamis in the Arctic. We infer that the landslide and its cascading consequences occurred due to the early-twentieth century warming that started in the late 1910's in the Arctic. Warming is now increasingly affecting this region, as shown by an enhanced recent landslide activity., Part 1.

Here, we investigated this hypothesis using longitudinal data from a large global cohort of runners, providing unprecedented leverage for understanding how the temporal development in the pandemic pressure relates to well-being across countries.DesignProspective cohort study.SettingGlobal.ParticipantsWe used data from the worldwide Garmin-RUNSAFE cohort that recruited runners with a Garmin Connect account, which is used for storing running activities tracked by a Garmin device. A total of 7808 Garmin Connect users from 86 countries participated.Primary and secondary outcome measuresFrom 1 August 2019 (prepandemic) to 31 December 2020, participants completed surveys every second week that included the five-item WHO Well-Being Index (WHO-5). Pandemic pressure was proxied by the number of COVID-19-related deaths per country, retrieved from the Coronavirus Resource Centre at Johns Hopkins University. Panel data regression including individual- and time-fixed effects was used to study the association between country-level COVID-19-related deaths over the past 14 days and individual-level self-reported well-being over the past 14 days.ResultsThe 7808 participants completed a total of 125 409 WHO-5 records over the study period. Background: Infrequent deviants in a rapid sequence of sounds elicit a negative cortical potential over the frontocentral midline (mismatch negativity, MMN) followed by a positive deflection (P3a). Both cortical potentials are consistently attenuated in patients with schizophrenia (SZ), and, to a lesser degree, in patients with bipolar disorder (BP). Objective: Since it is unclear when MMN and P3a deficits arise relative to the emergence of symptoms, we examined whether MMN and P3a alterations are already detectable in children with familial high risk. Methods: Using 128-channel electroencephalography, we recorded auditory MMN and P3a evoked by a deviation in sound duration, frequency, or both in 51 children with familial high-risk for SZ (FHR-SZ), 41 children with familial high-risk for BP (FHR-BP), and 39 population-based children (PBC) at a mean age of 12.10. Results: MMN amplitude evoked by a duration deviant was larger in children with FHR-BP compared to PBC and FHR-SZ. P3a amplitude in response to a duration ∗ frequency deviant was larger in children with FHR-BP compared to children with FHR-SZ, but not compared to PBC. MMN- and P3a-peak latency did not differ between groups. Conclusions: At an age of around 12 years, children with FHR-BP display enhanced neural sensitivity to change detection of duration deviants, while FHR-SZ showed a normal response pattern. Longitudinal recordings in high-risk children during adolescence are required to elucidate the temporal trajectories of MMN and P3a responses and how they relate to the emergence of first clinical symptoms in SZ and BP.

Marine-terminating outlet glacier terminus traces, mapped from satellite and aerial imagery, have been used extensively in understanding how outlet glaciers adjust to climate change variability over a range of timescales. Numerous studies have digitized termini manually, but this process is labor intensive, and no consistent approach exists. A lack of coordination leads to duplication of efforts, particularly for Greenland, which is a major scientific research focus. At the same time, machine learning techniques are rapidly making progress in their ability to automate accurate extraction of glacier termini, with promising developments across a number of optical and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite sensors. These techniques rely on high-quality, manually digitized terminus traces to be used as training data for robust automatic traces. Here we present a database of manually digitized terminus traces for machine learning and scientific applications. These data have been collected, cleaned, assigned with appropriate metadata including image scenes, and compiled so they can be easily accessed by scientists. The TermPicks data set includes 39 060 individual terminus traces for 278 glaciers with a mean of 136 +/- 190 and median of 93 of traces per glacier. Across all glaciers, 32 567 dates have been digitized, of which 4467 have traces from more than one author, and there is a duplication rate of 17 %. We find a median error of similar to 100 m among manually traced termini. Most traces are obtained after 1999, when Landsat 7 was launched. We also provide an overview of an updated version of the Google Earth Engine Digitization Tool (GEEDiT), which has been developed specifically for future manual picking of the Greenland Ice Sheet.

To be more successful in preventing malnutrition for older adults living at home, there is a need for better methods to characterize their food behavior, as well as there is a need for health-supporting technologies focusing more on individualized contextual preferences. This study reveals how photos can be used to characterize older adults’ food-related behavior and preferences, and how photo elicitation can be used to design an eating environment in mixed reality for older solitary adults. This study is based on a sample of 22 older adults, who took in total 153 pictures of their meals, and a workshop using photo elicitation with 16 older adults in a community center. The findings revealed how photos can be used as a self-monitoring process to create meaningful and rich in-depth information on food-related behavior of older adults living at home. Photo elicitation can be used as a supplement to characterize older adults’ food-related behavior and preferences in a mixed reality environment. Background: We aimed to determine school performance and psychiatric comorbidity in juvenile absence epilepsy (JAE), juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME), and generalized tonic–clonic seizures (GTCS) alone. Methods: All children (< 18 years) fulfilled International League Against Epilepsy criteria after review of their medical records. Control groups were the pediatric background population or children with non-neurological chronic disease. Outcomes were on school performance and psychiatric comorbidity. We compared mean grade point averages using linear regression and estimated hazard ratios using Cox regression in the remaining analyses. We adjusted for the child’s sex, age, and year of birth; and parental highest education, receipt of cash benefits or early retirement. Results: We included 92 JAE, 190 JME, 27 GTCS alone, 15,084 non-neurological chronic disease controls, and population controls. JAE had two times increased hazard for special needs education compared with age-matched population controls (hazard ratio 2.2, 95% CI = 1.1‒4.6, p = 0.03); this was not seen in JME. Compared with population controls, both JAE and JME had lower grade point average in secondary and high school (JME: 9th grade: – 0.5 points, 95% CI = −0.9 to −0.06, p = 0.03; high school: – 0.6 points, 95% CI = −1.3 to −0.1, p = 0.04), and 8% fewer JME and 15% fewer JAE attended high school. Both JME and JAE had higher hazard for redeeming sleep medication compared with non-neurological chronic disease; additionally, JAE had increased hazard for ADHD medicine redemptions. Conclusions: Both JAE and JME had marginally poorer school performance; performance seemed worse in JAE than in JME. Both JAE and JME had increased use of sleep medication.

Results: We validated the medical record in 969 children with an ICD-10 code of IGE, and 431 children had IGE (115 childhood absence epilepsy, 97 juvenile absence epilepsy, 192 juvenile myoclonic epilepsy, 27 generalized tonic-clonic seizures alone). By combining ICD-10 codes with antiseizure prescription and age at epilepsy code registration, we found a PPV for childhood absence epilepsy at 44% (95% confidence interval [CI]=34%‒54%) and for juvenile absence epilepsy at 44% (95% CI=36%–52%). However, ethosuximide prescription, age at ethosuximide code registration before age 8 years and a combination of ICD-10 codes yielded a PPV of 59% (95% CI=42%‒75%) for childhood absence epilepsy but the sensitivity was only 17% (20/115 children identified). For juvenile myoclonic epilepsy the highest PPV was 68% (95% CI=62%‒74%) using the code G40.3F plus antiseizure prescription and age at epilepsy code registration after age 8 years, with sensitivity of 85% (164/192 children identified). For generalized tonic-clonic seizures alone the highest PPV was 31% (95% CI=15%‒51%) using G40.3G during 2006–2019 plus antiseizure prescription and age at code registration after age 5 years. Objective: People with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder are at increased risk of having comorbid somatic illness. This is partly due to lack of physical activity, which may originate from childhood. Sleep disturbances are associated with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. We aimed to assess physical activity and sleep in children at familial high risk of schizophrenia or bipolar disorder and population-based controls. Methods: This study is part of The Danish High Risk and Resilience Study - VIA 11. Children aged 11 born to parents with schizophrenia (FHR-SZ) (N = 133), bipolar disorder (FHR-BP) (N = 84), or controls (C) (N = 150) were assessed by accelerometry for an average of 6.9 days. Results: High-intensity physical activity was significantly lower in children at FHR-SZ and FHR-BP compared to controls, (mean hours per day for FHR-SZ: 0.29, SD 0.19, for FHR-BP: 0.27, SD 0.24, and for controls 0.38, SD 0.22, P = <.001). Sleep did not differ between the groups. Conclusion: Children at FHR-SZ or FHR-BP had less physical activity compared to controls. Our study highlights a research area that reveals a hitherto unexplored disadvantage of being born to parents with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. Further research is needed to enhance better understanding of causal pathways and consequences of reduced physical activity in children with FHR-SZ and FHR-BP.

Background: Children born to parents with severe mental illness have gained more attention during the last decades because of increasing evidence documenting that these children constitute a population with an increased risk of developing mental illness and other negative life outcomes. Because of high-quality research with cohorts of offspring with familial risk and increased knowledge about gene–environment interactions, early interventions and preventive strategies are now being developed all over the world. Adolescence is a period characterized by massive changes, both in terms of physical, neurologic, psychological, social, and behavioral aspects. It is also the period of life with the highest risk of experiencing onset of a mental disorder. Therefore, investigating the impact of various risk and resilience factors in adolescence is important. Methods: The Danish High-Risk and Resilience Study started data collection in 2012, where 522 7-year-old children were enrolled in the first wave of the study, the VIA 7 study. The cohort was identified through Danish registers based on diagnoses of the parents. A total of 202 children had a parent diagnosed with schizophrenia, 120 children had a parent diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and 200 children had parents without these diagnoses. At age 11 years, all children were assessed for the second time in the VIA 11 study, with a follow-up retention rate of 89%. A comprehensive assessment battery covering domains of psychopathology, neurocognition, social cognition and behavior, motor development and physical health, genetic analyses, attachment, stress, parental functioning, and home environment was carried out at each wave. Magnetic resonance imaging scans of the brain and electroencephalograms were included from age 11 years. BACKGROUND: The cause of atrioventricular block (AVB) remains unknown in approximately half of young patients with the diag-nosis. Although variants in several genes associated with cardiac conduction diseases have been identified, the contribution of genetic variants in younger patients with AVB is unknown. METHODS AND RESULTS: Using the Danish Pacemaker and Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) Registry, we identified all patients younger than 50 years receiving a pacemaker because of AVB in Denmark in the period from January 1, 1996 to December 31, 2015. From medical records, we identified patients with unknown cause of AVB at time of pacemaker implanta-tion. These patients were invited to a genetic screening using a panel of 102 genes associated with inherited cardiac diseases. We identified 471 living patients with AVB of unknown cause, of whom 226 (48%) accepted participation. Median age at the time of pacemaker implantation was 39 years (interquartile range, 32– 45 years), and 123 (54%) were men. We found pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants in genes associated with or possibly associated with AVB in 12 patients (5%). Most variants were found in the LMNA gene (n=5). LMNA variant carriers all had a family history of either AVB and/or sudden cardiac death. CONCLUSIONS: In young patients with AVB of unknown cause, we found a possible genetic cause in 1 out of 20 participating patients. Variants in the LMNA gene were most common and associated with a family history of AVB and/or sudden cardiac death, suggesting that genetic testing should be a part of the diagnostic workup in these patients to stratify risk and screen family members.

In this article, we introduce the special issue on entrepreneurship and embeddedness. We do so by providing a brief overview of existing research on the topic focused on three important conversations related to process, context and theoretical foundations. The overview highlights essential contributions from extant research and suggests that expansion and advancement in the research conversation can be accomplished by focusing on dynamic and multilayered conceptualizations of embeddedness and by broadening the theoretical foundations of our research. We also present and position the papers in the special issue within the conversations on process, context and theoretical foundations in entrepreneurship research on embeddedness.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an emerging pandemic and a critical threat to future treatment of even menial infectious diseases. AMR is transmitted between animals, humans and the environment e.g. through consumption of contaminated food. The risk to public health of consuming food AMR bacteria is difficult to assess, and the complexity of the problem renders most existing risk assessment frameworks of limited use for timely risk management. This study developed a rapid risk assessment tool: RRA-AMR-Food for regulators and policy-makers to evaluate whether any risk management is required when a new or critical important AMR-gene is detected in food. The tool consists of two risk criteria: risk of the food type, the risk of the AMR-gene, and two consequence levels: the short term individual risk and the long term community risk. The outcomes are two independent risk estimates: for short term risks and for long term risks, respectively. The RRA-AMR-Food is a practical and user-friendly tool for regulators based on scientific evidence and expertise. It simplifies a very complex system and is only useful for providing initial guidance for risk management and is not a comprehensive risk assessment tool. It may enable risk managers to identify high risk foods that need to be withdrawn from the market in order to protect consumers and public health.

[ES] El trabajo consiste en un estudio sobre las posibles opciones de suministrar calefacción y refrigeración simultáneamente para el campus universitario de Lyngby de la DTU (Danmarks Tekniske Universitet). El objetivo del trabajo es la selección de la capacidad óptima de la bomba de calor para la producción simultánea de calefacción y de refrigeración. En el caso estudiado se utiliza el sistema de refrigeración del campus como fuente de calor para la bomba de calor. El desarrollo del modelo termodinámico de la bomba de calor se realiza en el software Engineering Equation Solver a partir de los datos de funcionamiento de los sistemas de calefacción y de refrigeración utilizados actualmente. Además, se analizan las posibilidades de otras soluciones integradas de producción así como el uso de otras fuentes de calor para la bomba de calor que puedan estar disponibles en el entorno. Todo esto se lleva a cabo, además, con un estudio económico en el que se comparan los costes asociados a la utilización de la bomba de calor, en función de la capacidad finalmente seleccionada, con los costes de la utilización de los medios convencionales de producción de calefacción y refrigeración. En este estudio económico se tiene en cuenta la variación de la demanda de calefacción y de refrigeración así como la variación de la eficiencia de la bomba de calor fuera de condiciones de diseño. Además, la demanda de calefacción y de refrigeración que no pueda ser suministrada por la bomba de calor (por no tener suficiente capacidad) se seguirá suministrando por el método actual., [EN] This thesis investigates the possibility of installing a heat pump to produce heating and cooling simultaneously in order to supply part of the annual demand. In the development of this study, the possibility of using a single-stage cycle or a two-stage cycle is analysed, with ammonia being the refrigerant used. Both cycles have the same design input parameters. These include heating and cooling supply and return temperatures, among other technical parameters of thermodynamic cycles. . The analysis of the performance of both cycles is carried out in the EES (Engineering Equation Solver) software, where it is concluded that the two-stage cycle has better results, and will be used for the heat pump in the development of the optimization model. When the parameters to be used in the heat pump are known, an optimization model is developed using the GAMS (General Algebraic Modeling System) software, where the objective function is to obtain the minimum total annual cost of the production system. A linear model is developed, which results in the optimum capacities of the heat pump and possible storage tanks for subsequent heating and cooling supply. In addition to including the production of heating and cooling by means of the heat pump, there is the possibility of part of both productions being carried out by the production systems currently in operation on the campus. The optimization model uses the results obtained in EES as input parameters in addition to the hourly heating and cooling demands expected to be obtained during a year on campus. In addition to these values, other factors have been taken into account, such as investment and production costs.

The benefits of functional biodiversity (FB) for pest control are under debate among practitioners. L and little is known about farmers’ practices and motivations to foster FB. We assumed that the use of monitoring methods would help the farmers to better appreciate the benefits of functional biodiversityFB and thus implement favorable practices. Therefore, w We performed undertook a comprehensive approach strategy combining consisting of wide semi-directive interviews and participatory workshops to describe farmers’ practices and perception, and design monitoring methods adapted to their needs. Our findings provide empirical evidence that FB is associated with multiple services and dis-services. Additionally, and thatthe farmers’ experience and time are two important conditions for farmers’ involvement for FB. Four main attitudes towards the management of FB were characterized: wait-and-see, naturalist, regulation, and multifunctional. These attitudes provide a useful framework to design support tools and research programs in adequacy line with farmers’ needs

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to give a collective overview on all available data sources on bladder cancer patients in the Nordic countries including the amount of detail and coverage. METHODS: National representatives from five Nordic countries were asked to fill out a questionnaire on available information regarding bladder cancer patients from databases in their respective countries. Additional information was retrieved from descriptions of the relevant registries. RESULTS: : Information on overall survival was available in all countries whereas recurrence-free survival and cancer-specific survival were available for some but not all patients depending on treatment modality. CONCLUSIONS: Despite limitations, we found that it was possible to retrieve detailed information on diagnostics, treatment, and outcome for most aspects of bladder cancer in the Nordic countries on a population based, non-selected patient cohort.
