In this paper we report the results obtained when implementing Activities related to the visualization of geometric representations in paper-and-pencil and technological environments with students1 grade 11. This is a qualitative research supported by both the representation theory and the visualization of mathematical objects using technological aid. We discuss how the use of technology promotes learning mathematical concepts through the analysis of static and dynamic geometric figures. Our results show that the technological tool contributes to the visualization of geometric representations arisen from working with Activities; however, paper-and-pencil as a working tool becomes necessary to give rise to conjectures about the meaning of abstract concepts linked to these representations. In this paper we analyze and discuss students' performance in a CAS environment related to the simplification of rational expressions. Results indicate that if students have more initial paper-and-pencil techniques, the CAS environment spurs them to deeper theoretical reflections than for students who have fewer techniques. Attention to mathematics teacher noticing is growing in our mathematics education communities. For this study, I intended to examine prospective K-8 teacher noticing across multiple contexts outside of the classroom (e.g. science museum, nature walk); however, stories about identities were particularly salient through our conversations and reflections in learning to notice children's mathematical practices. In this paper I explore how identity narratives (e.g. gender, race, age) interact with developing teacher noticing. Scholar desertion is one of the main problems in the context of the IES (Superior Educative Institutions) in Mexico. Currently, some trends look for aiming with proper solutions providing a balance using Information Technology. In fact, nowadays there are sophisticated computer sciences capable of identifying and prevent the academic desertion by means of using predictive algorithms which allow being aware about the requirements and needs of the students. In this sense, the present paper proposes a new methodology to reduce the students desertion using the advantages of the data mining theory jointly with advanced artificial intelligence techniques such that, fuzzy logic. Such methodology aims to detect in a suitable moment, when a student tends to leave their studies. The design and some relative works are detailed in order to emphasize the relevance of this promising research area. Despite several researches in autonomous agents important theoretical aspects of multi-agent coordination has been largely untreatable. Multiple cooperating situated agents support the promise of improved performance and increase the task allocation problems in cooperative environments. We present a general structure for coordinating heterogeneous situated agents that allows both autonomy of each agent as well as explicit coordination of them. Such situated agents are embodied for taking into account their situation to solve any action. Indeed, organizational features have been used as metaphor to achieve highest levels of interactions in an agent system. Then, a decision algorithm has been developed to perform a match between the situated agent knowledge and the requirements of an action. Recently, Auyero and Swistun (2008) demonstrated how the "work of confusion" of powerful agents is crucial for understanding the acquiescence of the powerless. In this paper I pick up their thread, explaining how social movement organizations (SMOs) contest this work of confusion, how the state and banks create confusion when a SMO is contesting their claims, and how SMOs use confusion to motivate and maintain their membership. The argument is based on ethnographic evidence of ten months of observation and 79 interviews with Chilean social housing mortgage debtors, many of whom have collectively defaulted since 2007. I find that the bank's false threats of foreclosures are believed largely because the SMOs do not systematically inform non-members and because one of the organizations reproduces the myth of foreclosures to maintain its membership. This leads uninformed and scared debtors to renegotiate debts in extremely unfavorable conditions. Yet since non-members trust their neighbors more than the bank, they do not respond to false threats when they are informed. Additionally, the SMOs' demonstration to debtors about how they had been tricked into unfair conditions and responsibility induces feelings of injustice and motivation for resistance. Finally, I describe how SMOs confuse members to motivate participation, especially with with false expectations of benefits for members only that aim to avoid free-riding. The squatter movement is one of the actors in the urban arena in several European cities, playing a leading role in the contestation to large urban regeneration plans and local policies. It has been stated that there are different types of squatting (Pruijt, 2003), which in turn may represent diverse models of contestation. Where the movement was carried out during the last two decades (e. g. Spanish cities), its development has taken place along with the raise of housing prices and high rates of real estate's construction. Whereas, in European cities which saw the origins of this movement in the early seventies, (e. g. Amsterdam or Milan) it was part of a wider oppositional movement which carried out the most important cycle of protest of the XX century. Nevertheless, the bulk of the research about urban mobilization has focused on well established and defined organizations. This paper aims to identify the set of variables proposed by the literature which favour or prevent the emergence of the squatter movement. It concludes that prevailing approaches pose inconveniences due to a normative concept of urban movements and because of underestimating their political nature, which have consequences on the empirical research. In this article we report on the procedures high school students used to relate the symbolic language of spreadsheets (Excel) to that used in traditional paper and pencil method. The word algebraic rate problem discussed herein is part of a series of problems implemented in the classroom with the proposal of helping students learn the algebraic language. This essay takes as point of departure the socially constructed character of both racial and sexual identities and categories. It proposes that the psychoanalytic study of race will not be properly carried out as long as race remains conceptualized as a feature of always already sexual bodies and identities. Abstract In this article we report on the strategies utilized by high school students for solving word algebraic rate problems. The proposal of this study is to contribute with theoretical and empirical elements to the classification of the problems proposed by Guzmᮬ Bednarz & Hitt (2003). The results of our study show that the order of difficulty encountered in the process of solution by the students for solving problems coincides with the expectations of those researchers.
