Generative AI is expected to fundamentally change the process and practices of innovation but structured insights on how the technology can be used to enhance knowledge work for innovation purposes is still largely lacking. A more detailed discussion of the new division of labor between human and AI and the capabilities that are employed in the shared innovation space of human and AI is needed. Against this background, the goal of this research in progress is to gain deeper understanding of how the integration of AI and human capabilities impacts the processes and practices of innovation teams. Preliminary findings from an initial data collection with 38 participants from 19 organizations indicates that the use of generative AI impacts the formation of innovation teams as well as the knowledge process.
