The article discusses research which analyzed the propeller-rudder interaction by computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Topics discussed include the importance of the interaction between the propeller wake and the rudder for the improvement of the ship design, the numerical model based on the integration of the unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) and the evolution of the tip vortex.

The article discusses the use of the numerical solution of the Reynold Averaged Navier-Stokes equations to evaluate the hydrodynamic performances of the high-speed catamarans. The wave patterns, wave profiles, surface pressure and velocity fields were evaluated and compared with the demihull configuration. The pressure and viscous resistance coefficients, and interference factors were compared with the Reynolds number. The calculated resistance coefficients were also verified and validated.

The article presents an experimental and numerical analysis of the roll decay motion of a patrol boat of the Italian Navy. The study analysed the roll motion coefficients at different Froude and Reynolds numbers. Experimental sea trials were conducted on the ship Comandante Bettica in the Mediterranean Sea, while model scale trials were done in the towing tank at INDEAN. Numerical analysis was done through unsteady RANS solver. Results showed agreement between experimental and numerical data at medium Froude number.
