Chemerin is a protein bearing chemotaxis and anti-inflammation functions. Truncation of C-terminal region of chemerin precursor, prochemerin, regulates its activity. A reliable structure may help us understand the mechanism of such regulation. We model the full length prochemerin with a mixed strategy, that the cystatin-fold domain near the N-terminus is based on homology modeling of a template of cystatin, while the region near the C-terminus is built with ab initio modeling, involving docking, energy minimization, and molecular dynamics simulation. The resulted structure shows that the C-terminal region hinders residues Glu143 and Asp144 from interacting other molecules. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

The current study has investigated the relationship between the inflammatory status, oxidative stress and antioxidant parameters of persons with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Material and Methods: All subjects' patients, and healthy controls, followed by estimation levels of adiponectin (ADP), protein carbonyls (PC), Malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT). And show the differences of concentration in all participants. Finally, investigate the Pearson's correlation (r) between these parameters. Results: there were increased significant variations in comparison between patients and healthy group in ADP, MDA, PC (P<0.01), whereas CAT, SOD (P<0.01), was remarkable lower in RA persons as compared to the healthy control. There was positive significant correlation between ADP with PC (r=0.27), and CAT (r=0.34). While moderate positive correlation was found between ADP with SOD (r=0.19). A negative correlation was observed with MDA (r= -0.04). The association of MDA with the other studied parameters showed a positive relationship between MDA with PC (r=0.12), while a negative correlation was found with SOD (r=-0.15). Conclusion: there were increased in the levels of oxidative stress in persons affected by RA demonstrated by elevated serum MDA, and PC that have resulted to alterations in the concentrations of some antioxidants, such as CAT, and SOD. In addition, there was an increasing in concentration of ADP. Regarding to the correlation there is positively correlated between ADP with PC, SOD, and CAT. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common disorder that affects the function of a woman's ovaries and often is a companied with irregular ovulation or failure to ovulate. Several theories have been put forward to explain. The cause of polycystic ovary syndrome is unknown. The present study was carried out in comprises clinical, hormonal associated with those PCOS. The role of vaspin, prolactin, and sex hormones (luteinizing hormone "LH," follicle-stimulating hormone "FSH," testosterone, and estradiol "E2") in PCOS pathogenesis will be investigated in this study. Was collected sixty (60) patients of women with PCOS, and thirty (30) healthy women(control group)were included in this study(subdivided into two subgroups (underweight and obesity) according to the BMI) in order to evaluate the role of vaspin, prolactin, LH, FSH", testosterone and E2in PCOS. This study revealed a significant elevation in all hormones that included in the study in the two patients subgroups in comparing with the two control subgroups. In conclusion sex hormones takes a part in the onset of PCOS where there is increasing in aromatization of androgens to estrogens, resulting in permanent estrogen overproduction, stimulates ovarian stromal hyperplasia. Hormones are important for initiating and sustaining male reproductive function, and endocrine dysfunction is more common in infertile males than in fertile males when SF parameters are abnormal. The objectives of this research were to determine the levels of gonadotropins sex hormones including luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and testosterone in oligospermic patients, as well as their impact on spermatogenesis regulation in Iraqi men. A total of 100 persons were collected blood and SF samples. (50 oligospermia infertile patients (OZ) and 50 normospermia fertile males as healthy control (NZ)) to determine SF analysis and serum hormone assay using ELISA kits by measured at a wavelength of 450 nm with a microplate reader. The results showed a high significant different in the reproductive hormone's levels in serum for FSH, LH than Testosterone between OZ and NZ man and decrease in SF parameters (morphology, motility and count) for OZ than NZ man.
