As part of the proposal to DOE-NP for the Center for Accelerator Target Science (CATS) initiative, one of the objectives was to develop an inventory of existing targets that will serve as a pool available to the community. Targets collections have been recovered from Yale University due to the closing of their Tandem Accelerator Facility. In addition, accumulated targets from target preparation in the Physics Division over several decades have also been assembled with the intent of providing them to whomever would have a use for them. Space has now become available to compile, catalogue and house these collections. Thus, the Argonne Target Library has been established and its progress and outlook will be discussed in detail. Resource sharing is a common practice for many libraries around the world; for example, in cataloging, in systems sharing and in the exchange and donation of items. Material exchange (books, journals, maps etc.) is a co-operative method between geographically adjacent libraries owning thematically irrelevant material or material available in multiple copies that can be donated to other libraries. This way, libraries with smaller collections and fewer resources can acquire material for free. The National Library of Greece (NLG), in order to promote the proportional distribution of items between members of the National Library Network (NLN), designed, developed, and put the “Exchanges and Donations Service” in a pilot operation, so as to support Greek libraries enrich their collections. At the same time, the goal is to cultivate a spirit of sharing between NLN libraries and strengthen their cooperation. NLG, among other libraries, will constantly supply the National Exchange Service with thousands of new titles from the Legal Deposit, ensuring that libraries collections will be enriched equally. All Greek public libraries that participate in the service will be able to provide and receive items for free. The current work will present the Exchange Service, which resulted from the cooperation of NLG, the Libraries and Information Centers of Panteion University and Harokopio University of Athens and the Library of the Eugenides Foundation. The history of the cooperation that led to the development of the Exchange Service, its purpose and objectives will also be described. Finally, the operating policy of the service and the re-quirements of participation will be addressed.

This paper is aimed at addressing the need for a more in-depth empirical investigation of exploring the link between the application of Innovation Management Tools (IMT) and Innovation Market Success (IMS) and what leverage is exerted by IMT in relation to other success factors of innovation such as Innovation Culture/Mindset, R&D-Budgeting, Goal Orientation, Cooperation. The central research question is: what is the importance and the role of IMT in relation to other antecedents of innovation market success? Based on Structural Equation Modelling and in the context of our sample (n = 354 medium-sized enterprises) the results of the present study reveal that the current understanding of the role of innovation management tools needs to be reconsidered. Their importance is overemphasized in existing studies as long as other important antecedents of innovation success - measured by the explained variance of the dependent variable IMS - are ignored. The article discusses the digital transformation of media collections in the library. Research that illustrates how processing collection over media, obstacles faced by the Library Service of the Province of South Sumatra. The study used a qualitative descriptive method with the aim of getting a more detailed description of the processing of collections over media. Data collection techniques in the study were carried out by observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews with the head of the library, the head of conservation, the media transfer section, and librarians. The results of the study showed that the processing of media transfer collections consisted of three stages after the media transfer. The main obstacle in processing the transfer of media is the lack of human resources that are competent in the field of media transfer besides that, inadequate facilities due to lack of available budget. Digitizing the library may help library and the users to step toward the sustainable future, because digital libraries are the future. Intellectual capital theory (IC) theory, which asserts that organisational value is for the most part created with intangible, knowledge-based resources, has become a prevalent way to approach the notion of business viability. Most IC research leans on the classical tripod of IC components, laid down by the first-generation researchers in the field. This tripod divides the value-generating knowledge assets into human capital, structural capital and relational capital; or, more simply put the value vested in an organisation's personnel, internal structures and processes, and relationships. Even though this conceptualization has been challenged by some, it still remains the cornerstone of the IC-based view of the firm, and it is astutely followed by most researchers in this field. However, various large-scale technological, socio-political, and institutional changes have fundamentally changed the business environment and worklife in recent years. In this paper we argue that these changes call for a critical examination of the relevance of the classical conceptualizations of IC. It may be necessary to update the understanding concerning not only the most essential knowledge resources, but also the structure of IC and the way in which IC is related with new relevant organisational capabilities and aspects of organisational performance. The aim of this theoretical paper is to provide an overview of some of the most essential recent worklife trends that are likely to impact how IC should be understood: digitalization, remote work, gig work, open innovation, crowdsourcing, strive towards sustainability and resilience. Based on these, the paper puts forth a set of propositions concerning the needed novel perspectives for IC. In addition to constructing a novel theoretical framework and propositions for IC research, the paper functions as an introduction to the mini track on Futurizing the Intellectual Capital Theory and provides a common framework on which mini track participants can base their dialogue. Optical Music Recognition (OMR) is a well-established research field focused on the task of reading musical notation from images of music scores. In the standard OMR workflow, layout analysis is a critical component for identifying relevant parts of the image, such as staff lines, text, or notes. State-of-the-art approaches to this task are based on machine learning, which entails having to label a training corpus, an error-prone, laborious, and expensive task that must be performed by experts. In this paper, we propose a novel few-shot strategy for building robust models by utilizing only partial annotations, therefore requiring minimal human effort. Specifically, we introduce a masking layer and an oversampling technique to train models using a small set of annotated patches from the training images. Our proposal enables achieving high performance even with scarce training data, as demonstrated by experiments on four benchmark datasets. The results indicate that this approach achieves performance values comparable to models trained with a fully annotated corpus, but, in this case, requiring the annotation of only between 20% and 39% of this data. The Tiger Tales Oral History Digital Exhibit began in 2018 as an effort to promote Forsyth Library's selfservice video studio and Special Collections. The project is a marriage of the creative technologies of the library's Learning Commons Media Lab paired with images from its archives to capture the stories of Tiger alumni, students, faculty, and staff spanning generations about their time at Fort Hays State. Forsyth's Outreach Team adds their talents to the project recruiting interview subjects, often in collaboration with the FHSU Foundation and Alumni Office. Over its five-year history, these connections have served to gather first-hand stories from as early as the mid-1930s, and the collection continues to grow. These oral histories serve as unique primary sources complementing the research materials available to our community. The shortage of workforce in the construction industry has placed a demand on engineering and construction firms to attract and retain even more workers. The competition for qualified skilled workers within the construction sector and from other industries has impacted the labor turnover in the industry. The repeated cycle of training new hires due to labor turnover may affect organizational and project performance. Construction firms should seek tactical human resources initiatives to attract new hires, develop old hires' skills, and retain talent in their workforce. This study investigates the differences in human dimensions of individuals engaged on construction job sites. The aim of this paper is to identify distinctive human dimensions of skilled trades workers, essentially required for job transition within the construction industry. This study adopted HEXACO personality inventory, Emotional Intelligence, and Q-DiSC behavioral diagnostics to determine personality trait differences and peculiarities between 133 project managers working for general contracting firms and 88 Specialty field leaders in the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning trades. The data collected from the 221 construction professionals were analyzed using the independent t-test to evaluate the statistically significant differences in the means of personality traits between the groups. Sincerity, Fairness, Greed-Avoidance, Fearfulness, Prudence, Inquisitiveness, and Social Awareness, among other measures, were significantly different between the groups. The differences recognized between the groups in this study can afford employees a better perspective of the traits common to the new jobs for smooth job role transition within the construction sector. Time, cost, quality, safety, and client satisfaction are among the metrics that have been used over time to measure project performance in the construction industry. Most of these performance indicators are task/result-oriented which depend on the contribution and competence of construction workers and professionals. Nevertheless, the construction industry faces a labor gap due to the scarcity of skilled workforce and aging workers. Adequate measures must be put in place to meet the demands of the construction industry. Talent development and retention can be leveraged to ensure access to the skills needed for better project performance and improved productivity of the sector at large. Hence, the aim of this paper is to recognize distinctive skill sets associated with top-performing workers. This study utilized performance data based on the supervisor's rating of 88 field leaders working for Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors to identify performance characteristics peculiar to top performers. In this study, a field leader functions as a liaison between a construction project manager and a construction crew to ensure the assigned tasks are executed, and such a person may be a foreman, superintendent, or field executive. Using Principal Component Analysis, a single performance construct was developed from 22 performance criteria to assess the performance and grouping of the field leaders into two categories. From the analysis, 18.75% of the respondents were identified to be top-performing field leaders (FLs). An Independent sample t-test was carried out to determine the mean difference and statistical differences between the two groups based on the performance criteria. The topperforming field leaders outclassed the other field leaders in Performance criteria related to technical, leadership and communication, and overall job performance skills. The findings of this study can be used to devise strategic talent development initiatives and training targeted towards the development of traits associated with top performers in potential high-performing workers for better results. The Materials Processing course at Northeastern University enrolls both Master's level students with a concentration in Materials and undergraduates who select the course as an elective for their combined BS/MS degree. For the term project, students work in teams to research and write a journal-quality review article detailing the state of the art for a particular process. This study aimed to assess students' information literacy (IL) skills as demonstrated in this term project to identify IL skills with which graduate and upper-level undergraduate students may need more support. A secondary goal was to examine any differences in information between the undergraduate and graduate students, many of whom speak English as a second language. A customized version of the VALUE rubric for Information Literacy was used to assess a sample of 25 term projects from two semesters spanning 2021-2022. A Mechanical Engineering faculty member rated half the criteria that required more subject matter expertise. An Engineering Librarian rated the other half of the criteria which are more research oriented. This method resulted in substantial time savings and increased expertise in overall ratings. Results indicate the students in aggregate were most skilled in choosing sources related to the research question and selecting those sources based on multiple criteria. Students were least skilled in the proper citation of sources and in communicating and synthesizing literature information into a coherent argument. Two outcomes that were strongly related to high report grades were being able to properly paraphrase literature information as well as properly synthesize it into an argument. These last two outcomes were particularly weak for teams consisting solely or primarily of graduate students. It is recommended that undergraduate students receive reinforcement of library research skills, while graduate students require additional instruction in paraphrasing, synthesis of ideas, and ethical attribution. Given the size of digital library collections and the inconsistencies in their genre‐related bibliographic metadata, as digital libraries grow and their contents are opened for computational analysis, finding materials of interest becomes a major challenge. This challenge increases for sub‐genres and other categories of text data that are less distinct from the whole. This project pilots machine learning methods and word feature analysis for identifying Black Fantastic genre texts within the HathiTrust Digital Library. These texts are sometimes referred to as "Afrofuturism" but more commonly today described as "Black Fantastic," in which African Diaspora artists and creators engage with the intersections of race and technology in their works with a primary focus on world‐building. Black Fantastic texts pose a challenge to genre classification, as they incorporate aspects of science fiction and fantasy with typical characteristics of African Diaspora‐produced literature. This paper presents and reports on results from a pilot predictive modeling process to computationally identify Black Fantastic texts using curated word feature sets for each class of data: general English‐language fiction, Black‐authored fiction, and Black Fantastic fiction. Interior design department required experience-based learning through a bank of material samples. The material samples in the physical material library come in various categories and different types. The situation of covid-19 pandemic has enforced rapid growth of transformation on digital technology. Digital material libraries came up as a solution for such a situation. Digital samples of interior materials also can be stored and accessed easily with an internet connection. Otherwise, there are things to be considered due to crucial points in relation to senses experiences such as tactility and smell senses in which students need touch and feel the texture of the materials to explore and understand them better. A qualitative method with a comparative study approach is conducted in this research to investigate which elements of image taking could bring a close impression to the real object. By using this approach an in-depth comparison study will be done in the Interior Design department laboratory of BINUS University to reveal the advantages and disadvantages of images taken by two types of equipment: 2D flat scanner and digital camera. Purpose: The purpose of this systematic literature review is to display an overview of the progresses and advancements made in the field of neuroeconomics by describing the concept, the field of research, and the tools and measures that are applied. By doing so, the authors show how the acknowledgeable interdisciplinary field influenced the study of applied economics (neuroeconomics and the decision-making process) in recent years. Methodology: A systematic literature review was performed where the authors present the evolution of the field and present the current state of the art of this interdisciplinary field to understand the phenomenon of decision-making, more specifically, applied to (neuro)economic processes, mind/emotional triggers, and chemical/emotional outcomes. This analysis was conducted with the database B-ON. 55 articles remained purposeful for the present research after the authors checked for relevance. Results: Neuroeconomics, as a subfield of economics (general field of research) and applied neuroscience, analyses the human brain, from the stance of decision-makers, their thought processes (rational and emotional), and behavior (Alós-Ferrer, 2018). The focus of the area is to study and develop a comprehensive understanding of how and to what extent a decision affects the brain and future decision choices in terms of nature and perception of risk (Baechler & Germain, 2018; Karmarkar & Plassmann, 2019; Landry & Webb, 2021). Originality: Neuroscience contributes to the understanding of the human mind with the use of specific tools/measures. More, this field has evolved to be applied to other areas of research that contribute to a successful and worthwhile discussion. In this sense, neuroeconomics is a rapidly evolving interdisciplinary field that applies neurosciencebased tools/techniques to the research field of economics. However, there is a lack of guidance and introductory research. Since there isn’t any requirement to contribute to this field, newcomers should receive additional support to produce high-quality work that encourages the development of the field. This study aims at measuring the correlation between information needs of patrons and the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) Library collection. The survey was carried out targeting students from a doctoral course in Scientific and Technological Education especially, analyzing the listing of sources and literature of UFSC doctoral theses submitted in 2012. The postgraduate program was selected for its multidisciplinary nature. Theses were chosen for analysis because they are original studies and represent an innovative contribution. Also, they are available at the library collection and general public can access them both in printed or online format. The goal of this examination was to identify the matching between the literature used at research and the current library collection, to determine the proportion of electronic respectively online resources compared to printed material and their relationship to publication year, resource language and citation patterns. Concerning the used literature, when they were identified as online, was also verified if its content belongs to the library collection or if the access was provided by CAPES Portal. That is a scientific information portal maintained by the Brazilian federal govern. It collects and makes available to institutions of higher education and research in Brazil the best international scientific production. The methods used in this study will be implemented into the library's workflows in order to ensure the continual optimization of the collection development policy at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina Library. Collection development policies for university special collections and archives guide archival appraisal, which is the process by which archivists determine the value of an item. Much has been written about appraisal theory, but little is known about archivists' actual appraisal practice and how collection policy guides such practice. The object of this paper is to explore the appraisal practices of archivists by examining collection development policies. As a preliminary examination, this study analyzed the collection development policies of seven Texas tier‐one institutions. The most common component of the policies was a statement on the types of items collected or excluded. The study also found that the language used for these formats varied considerably with no standardization. The policies themselves also varied widely in detail. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Quality of Experience (QoE) concept for video content used for entertainment differs significantly from the QoE of surveillance video used for recognition tasks. Consequently, the latter requires specific reference video database sets for research. In this paper, such a database is described. The paper reports the process of preparing test video sequences and related subjective scores. It also presents methods used to form visual sequences and collections of accompanying subjective scores. Librarians working in academic libraries are often exhorted to advance the cause of open access through their daily work with scholars and students in the institution. For experienced librarians as well as those new to the profession, there may be some confusion about how to carry out this work. There may be a lack of understanding about potential roles in a changing vision of scholarly communication that includes advocacy for openness as well as a responsibility for participation in local, national and global efforts. Librarian roles may not have changed to incorporate new models of scholarly communication. Library leaders may be using a level of rhetoric that may not resonate with the actual experience of librarians in their work in reference, instruction, collection development, or liaison work with teaching faculty. Librarians, often seeing themselves as members of a service profession seek to make available and provide services around the traditional library collections desired by institutional faculty and students. Incentives may not exist to produce the kinds of changes to collections or services that are held up as the future vision of the library. Also, whether they hold professional staff or faculty appointments, librarians endeavor to publish their own research in the established corpus of scholarly literature of library and information science (LIS). Librarians may not be invested in changing their own publishing behavior to match the messages they are asked to convey about open access to those in other disciplines. In library schools, LIS educators may not be integrating scholarly communication topics of relevance to future public services librarians into their curricula. The focus may be on digitization efforts and less on the types of services that librarians offer every day to faculty and students in reference encounters, liaison work, instruction or collection development work. After more than a decade of open access advocacy in libraries, it may be time to focus on the practical side and to move toward the promulgation of specific actions that are likely to produce real and positive result. Librarians working on the front lines will benefit from a better understanding of the type of contributions they can make. It emphasizes the library's primary aim of making its collections available to everyone in Switzerland and abroad. A lists of several topics that have defined, corresponding to the questions most often asked, including geography, economics, history and education are also presented.

With the advance of hardware systems and communication technologies, the design of self-controlled submerged devices and their connection in an Internet of Underwater Things (IoUT) is becoming possible. Deployed over long periods of times, these devices can only dedicate a small portion of their energy to underwater acoustic (UWA) communication. As a result, the communication packets should be extremely small with minimum overhead for preamble signals and pilot symbols. On the other hand, the operation of the IoUT in shallow water requires good equalization performance to manage the expected long intersymbol interference (ISI). In this paper, we propose a novel scheme to allow equalization albeit the short training sequence versus long UWA channel. Our approach relies on the generalized Gaussian message passing (GAMP) scheme to operate a novel semiblind equalization. Specifically, we formulate the joint channel estimation and decoding (JCED) problem as a factor graph and perform equalization by passing messages within units of a turbo equalizer. Extensive numerical simulation and results from a field experiment show that our approach outperforms state-of-the-art benchmarks in terms of the communication system’s capability to perform well with a small number of pilot symbols. This paper aims to assess the overall service quality of an academic library in Thailand in delivering its services. An analysis of the importance ranking of the service quality items and dimensions is also done. A survey is conducted among undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty members as the library users. A user-based service quality tool developed by Parasuraman et al., the SERVQUAL model, is used to do the assessment, with modifications to the dimensions to fit library settings. The gap differences between the desired expectation level and the perceived level of each service quality item are examined, supported by the analysis of means (ANOM). Zone of tolerance is used to see which service quality items exceed, fall, or in the range of user's acceptable level of service. Finally, the dimensions are ranked according to their importance, where library as a place ranks first and collection and access ranks the least important. This is the first time an effort has been done to assess the academic library and it is hoped this paper can be a guideline for the library to improve its services. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Libraries and eBooks providers are working together to update and define new business models more efficient and effective to purchase eBooks. In a global market increasingly competitive , new technologies and economic realities are forcing textbook publishers and wholesalers to make significant changes in their business models . This report discusses digital lending platforms and business models with which e-book providers are working as well as the methods and the ways in which libraries can purchase electronic books , the different models available and access the potential advantages and disadvantages of each , best practices , workflows , licensing, and key points in the management of resources for managing e-book collections . In this environment, the e-book providers try to find models that are attractive purchase for libraries while trying to protect content from piracy and other produce , or at least protect their source of income . As a result , there are a variety of options available to libraries wishing to create collections of electronic books through digital lending platforms . The purpose of this paper is to analyze the business models of digital publishing and access to published materials from libraries digitally through digital lending platforms , focusing on identifying key challenges , share experiences, and prioritize areas of action.

The Norwegian Polar Institute was founded in 1948, but can trace its roots back to the first decade of the 20th century. "Norway's Svalbard and Arctic Ocean Survey", as the institute was called from 1928 to -48, already had a library in 1930. A central part of today's NPI library is the polar history book collection. These books are available to the public. In 2012 the institute's historian suggested the creation of a monthly book café event in the library. This has been a regularly scheduled activity since April 2012. At each monthly evening gathering an invited speaker presents a book with a polar connection, of his/her own choice. After a break there are questions and comments from the audience. Wine is sold at cost. Between 20 and 80 people attend each event. This has proven to be a pleasant and successful outreach to the community of Tromsø, particularly those interested in polar literature and history. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper presents the results of the research into the implementation of multisearch engines at Polish libraries. Multisearch (integrated search) enables library users to gather information of various types or formats, from various sources. Search results can be displayed in one set and sorted in a given order. Thanks to the one-stop service users can search a wide content of the library own and external licensed or open collections through a single search box. The research was conducted at the libraries th at have bought one of the multisearch programs: EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS), Primo or SUMMON and provide one -stop search from their homepages. The survey conducted in April 2013 was accompanied by interviews with the software providers. Additional analys is of library homepages as regards to presentation of information for end-users has been provided. Possibilities of and differences in search results when searching on - and off - site have been discussed. Finally, similar search was conducted in WorldWideScience.org and Google Scholar. The results can further be used by librarians in the process of making decision whether to by any tool or which one to select to provide an integrated search of the collection available from the library.

In days of global economic distress, libraries implementing a GIS service, must ensure that users will be able to make the greatest possible use of its capabilities and functions. Based on the above framework, the goal of this study is to broadly explore the collection development policies of libraries with geographical collections and GIS services worldwide, outlining the main characteristics of the geospatial collection policies and providing some examples of how these characteristics are reflected in available to users, services. The research questions formed in this context are: 1) What are the main features of geospatial collection development policies? 2) Do geospatial collection development policies include features that reflect the adjustment of libraries to the rapid growth of open geospatial data? 3) Do the existence geospatial collection policies reflect the adjustment of libraries to limited financial means the last few years? To achieve this, we relied on a survey we undertook from May to August 2011 and in which we searched websites of academic libraries in Universities which inter alia operate those departments whose curricula are based in the use of geospatial information and GIS. Out of 331 academic libraries investigated worldwide, 136 libraries were detected with GIS services as indicated on their websites. Out of these, only 24 worldwide had on their website information regarding geospatial collection development policies. Thus, we focused our research on policies provided by these 24 libraries on their websites, listed the characteristics mentioned by each of these policies and group them together so to isolate what was common to all and highlight those referred to specific cases. Our survey revealed that many libraries include geospatial data to the same written policies as those of map collections while other university libraries facing geospatial data as a unique collection.Information relating to format, metadata, and originality are some of those that have been included in many libraries’ policies and are related to the specification of the open data that will be incorporated into the local collection. Libraries seem to participate in collaborative schemes to proceed to advantageous agreements. Given the increasing demand for GIS services and collections in libraries, librarians should use every outreach tool available to reach potential audiences, and the collection development policy is one of this.

Environmental physics is defined as the branch of physics concerned with the measurement and analysis of interactions between organisms and their environment. Most commonly, the organisms are plants and animals, and the environment is the atmospheric or soil environment in which they are surrounded. Currently, within the context of updating and improving the education process, special importance is attached to the possibility of applying innovative methods at all stages of education. Environmental physics is one of the main academic disciplines in the ecosystemic areas of training at universities. The success of the study of environmental physics science sections is based on the search and use of modern methods and means in organising the educational process in the form of a kind of information and developmental environment that contributes to the acquisition of new knowledge in the subject area, the formation of professional competencies and an active life position. The paper presents the results and analysis of the work on the implementation of the elements of the Flipped classroom model based on blended learning technology, which involves students independently performing a certain amount of work through the use of distance learning management system modules (LMS Moodle) as part of the study of environmental physics at the Yelabuga Institute of Kazan Federal University. The structure of distance modules and their functionality within the context of organising students' independent work are described. The use of the developed distance modules, containing the necessary teaching, controlling and auxiliary elements, creates ample opportunities for the implementation of the "Flipped classroom" methodology, the organisation of effective independent work in the process of studying an environmental physics course. Independent business owners often prefer informal information sources to formal ones such as library collections. Part of these preferences is rational because contextual and application‐oriented information is usually available from informal sources, which are theoretically the best matches for this kind of information. This suggests that, in addition to outreach strategies, efforts to integrate informal sources of business‐relevant information can improve public libraries' ability to support independent business owners' information needs. The Historic Collection of the Library of the University of Barcelona has approximately 150.000 copies of editions printed between 1465 and 1800. Most of them come from the collections of convents seized by the State in 1835, due to the suppression of religious orders decreed by the Mendizábal government. The creation of a Provenance Database of the Historic Collection of the Library of the University of Barcelona will be made available to researchers and librarians and provide an indispensable tool for the reconstruction of the bibliographic collections of Barcelona’s former convents libraries. Their role in the cultural history of the city is fundamental as some of them functioned as public libraries. The poster justifies the need of this database and shows a prototype of it.

This conference session consisted of four presentations, of which slides are available for three. Trish Rosseel spoke about the 2008 BC Digitization Symposium, including the Final Report's recommendations for advancing the initiative. Marc Saunders spoke about the Prince George Newspaper Digitization Project, an ongoing project to digitize the historical newspapers of Prince George. Kate Russell spoke about the Vancouver Public Library's collection of digitized BC city directories. Slides are not available for the fourth presenter, Gabriel Schroedter, who spoke about the Historic Video Archives Digitization Project at Vivo Media Arts.

As a result of the Plan de Actuación 2005-2008 the Prado Museum has created the Centro de Estudios (Research Centre) in the Casón del Buen Retiro. In March, 2009 the Centre has opened its doors and a new Area that groups the Services of Library, Archive and Documentation has begun to work. The Area looks for the integration of all the documentary services of the Museum trying to improve the management of the collections and the users’ attention. A project that allows the confluence of the information generated by the Museum from all the areas has begun to be designed. A new web site has also been launched, with a lot of information before not available (catalogue of library, information about the collection, etc) and a new reading room has been opened for the consultation of all the documentary materials. Among the immediate future projects it can be found the digitalization of rare materials of the library (manuscripts, old books…), the development of a new search interface for the database of works of art and the implementation of new software for the Archive.

This working paper about preservation and conservation of bibliographic materials, emphasizes all the special considerations that are important in planning to prevent disasters in collection of academic libraries. When materials aren't available due to deterioration, missing pages, disconnected covers, or other problems, it can be frustrating for users and librarians alike. We must know the answer that can care for the collection from the outset, while also guiding staff on making needed repairs. In Preservation and Conservation, the experts show library administrators and decision makers the optimal collection preservation techniques, what it takes to set up a conservation work area, and safe ways to mount a small exhibit at the library. We analyse the biological attack in books and numbers of journals which date of publication is XVIIIth century. We have also considered the effects of the variation of temperature and humidity that could produce the deterioration of the paper and the covers. We must analyse the benefits and problems of digitising different types of materials; the long-term viability of digital media; issues of access to digital surrogate documents as opposed to the original medium; and the challenges in the digital context of bibliographical control, cataloguing, metadata, distribution and copyright protection.

This presentation looks at the role of ebooks at Royal Roads University Library, free ebook collections available on the web, and how other libraries handle free ebook collections. It includes results of a library survey and discussion and conclusions.

Gambling Research Exchange (GREO) is an independent Knowledge Translation and Exchange (KTE) organization that aims to reduce harm from gambling. GREO curates and maintains a digital library of credible gambling information, most of which is grey literature. Several stakeholder groups use this library, including policy makers, researchers, treatment providers, regulators, and gambling operators. In order to meet knowledge needs, GREO both manages and produces grey literature, and maintains a research data repository for use by the gambling studies community. In keeping with the Open Science movement, the goal of the library is to provide timely and relevant evidence in formats accessible to diverse audiences, which can be used to inform decision-making, research, treatment, and policy direction. This paper documents how GREO's digital library reorganized its search interface and document types and adopted accessible terminology so that complex research findings could extend beyond the academic community to broader audiences. Beginning in 2017, we assessed the existing library's terminology and document types for accessibility and credibility. The first step was to rename the library from "Knowledge Repository" to "Evidence Centre", a term that resonated more with non-academic audiences. Similarly, in 2018, we renamed the "Grey Literature" collection to "Specialized Resources" so that it is readily understood. Since the collection had grown considerably, we divided the single "Grey Literature" resource type into ten searchable categories to help direct users to the most appropriate resource formats. Examples include white papers, reports, visual tools, and instructional resources. A recent change in our funding model necessitated a further transition from a focus on Ontario, Canada to international audiences. Using examples drawn from a recent focus on gambling in Great Britain, this paper demonstrates how the GREO Evidence Centre has become increasingly accessible to wider audiences since 2017 to more effectively address their information needs. Wichita State University is known for its advances in STEM research for many decades, but there were few inventions patented by WSU. In recent years, commercialization of the results of applied research, especially bioengineering, became a university focus; the number of WSU owned patents increased significantly. WSU initiated several initiatives to support university inventors. These included the development of the Innovation Campus and WSU Venture. The Wichita State University Libraries decided to join these efforts by not only providing information to inventors as a Patent and Trademark Resource Center but to archive and increase awareness of their patents. To increase the visibility of the work of WSU inventors, Wichita State University librarians created a collection of Wichita State Patents in the university's institutional repository SOAR: Shocker Open Access Repository (Wichita State University Patents, 2016). Patent records within SOAR are unique compared to those previously established. This paper details our preparation for this project, such as learning best practices, patent databases, vocabulary and classification, development of guidelines, steps in creation and maintenance of the collection, and its usage. Of late, the number of fire cases in Malaysia has been steadily increasing at a very alarming rate. One way to reduce the ability of fire ignition or spreading is by coating or doping the wood with a layer of fire-protected coating, or an insulating barrier, which is also known as Flame Retardant Coatings (FRCs). In this study, titania (TiO2) is coated onto the surface of the wood to act as an FRC. The synthesis of TiO2 was carried out by using the sol-gel method, while the coating process was done by the dip-coating method. FESEM images show that the surface of the wood has been fully covered by titania nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) in size range of 24 – 45 nm. From the TGA results, it was shown that the thermal stability of the wood has increased from 300 to 320 °C, with just by a merely coated layer of TiO2 NPs. Flammability testing was carried out by a flame burner also shows that the coated wood is capable of reducing the flammability of the wood, where the coated wood required a longer time to be burned out. The flame spread test indicated that the coated samples managed to reduce the spreading of the flame, as compared to the uncoated sample. These initial results show the potential of the TiO2 NPs as a good flame-retardant material. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
