2. Classroom Assessment That Tailor Instruction and Direct Learning: A Validation Study

- Abstract
We report the validity of a test instrument that assesses the arithmetic ability of primary students by (a) describing the theoretical model of arithmetic ability assessment using Wilson's (2004) four building blocks of constructing measures and (b) providing empirical evidence for the validation study. The instrument consists of 21 multiple-choice questions that hierarchically evaluate arithmetic intended learning outcomes (ILOs) on arithmetic ability, hierarchically, based on Bloom's cognitive taxonomy for 138 primary three grade students. The theoretical model describes students' arithmetic ability on three distinct levels: solid, developing, and basic. At each level, the model describes the characteristics of the tasks that the students can answer correctly. The analysis shows that the difficulty of the items followed the expected order in the theoretical construct map, where the difficulty of each designed item aligned with the cognitive level of the student, the item difficulty distribution aligned with the structure of the person construct map, and word problems required higher cognitive abilities than the calculation problems did. The findings, however, pointed out that more difficult items can be added to better differentiate students with different ability levels, and an item should be revised to enhance the reliability and validity of the research. We conclude that the conceptualizations of such formative assessments provide meaningful information for teachers to support learning and tailoring instruction.

4. Number Sense Predicts Arithmetic Competence in Young Chinese Children: The Role of Visual Spatial Skills and Inhibitory Control

- Abstract
To examine the relationship between early number sense and later symbolic arithmetic competence and how they are connected in young Chinese children. The present study utilized a longitudinal sample of 115 Chinese children aged 3 to 6. Young children completed measures to assess number sense, visual spatial skills (in the fall of their second kindergarten year, K2), arithmetic competence (in the spring of their second kindergarten year, K3), working memory, verbal comprehension, and inhibitory control (in the fall of their first kindergarten year, K1). The results showed that number sense predicted arithmetic competence six months later. Meanwhile, visual spatial skills played a mediating role in this association, but it became non-significant when working memory, verbal comprehension, and inhibitory control were added as covariates. These longitudinal findings confirm the close association between number sense and arithmetic competence in young Chinese children.

5. Early Motor Development in China: Secular Trends among 4-Year-Olds

- Abstract
Changes in physical activity levels and increases in screen time across different cohorts may affect young children's motor skill development (MSD). This study examined cohort differences in MSD in China. Four-year-olds living in Shanghai and in Guizhou province were assessed, in individual sessions, in 2013 (n = 230) and in 2017 (n = 446). Controlling for age, parental education, gender, height, weight, and overall development, children's MSD scores were significantly lower in 2017 than in 2013 in both Shanghai and Guizhou. Parental education moderated these differences. Declines in MSD scores may be due to increased screen time, higher levels of air pollution, and decreased access to safe, outdoor spaces. The overall decline in motor skills across both regions suggests that appropriate and timely interventions are needed to support young Chinese children's MSD.

6. Can Mathematics-Unrelated Reading Intervention Improve Children's Mathematical Performance?

- Abstract
This study aims to examine whether a maths-unrelated reading intervention can improve children's mathematical performance and to compare the effects of maths-related and maths-unrelated reading interventions. Furthermore, this study examines whether the effects of reading interventions are moderated by individual differences, including gender, pre-test maths performance and general cognitive ability. One hundred thirty-four second-grade Chinese children were recruited into three different groups. In the control group, the children received business as usual teaching, while in the two experimental groups, the children received a maths-related or maths-unrelated reading intervention. The results showed that the maths-unrelated reading intervention could significantly improve children's mathematical performance, and the beneficial effect did not differ from the maths-related intervention. Moreover, the effects of the two reading interventions were not moderated by children's individual differences. These findings support the function hypothesis of language for mathematics.

7. Prediction of potential habitat areas of Rhododendron delavayi in China based on maximum entropy model MaxEnt.

Rhododendron delavayi Franch. predominantly thrives in broad-leaved evergreen forests and bushes at altitudes of 1,200–3,200 meters. It favors a cool, moist climate and thrives in acidic soils. Due to its high ornamental, medicinal, and scientific values, understanding its ecological needs and optimal cultivation ranges is crucial. This study analyzing the key environmental factors and their thresholds affecting its distribution and predicts the future potential habitats of R. delavayi using existing distribution data alongside current and projected climate data. The results indicate that the primary environmental influencers are soil pH (4.9–5.4), precipitation in the driest month (10–20 mm), and altitude, contributing 41.8, 24.1, and 18.3%, respectively. It also shows a declining trend in suitable habitats: from 27.75 × 10

8. Stay strong, stay healthy: exploring a predictive model of psychological adaptation among Macau students studying in Mainland China within the postcolonial context.

The prevailing research on adaptation primarily centers around the settlement of international students and immigrants in different cultural environments. However, there is a notable gap in understanding the intra-cultural adaptation process for individuals from postcolonial areas when relocating to their home country. The primary focus of the current study lies in constructing a predictive model that delineates the psychological adaptation experienced by Macau students studying in Mainland China. In total, two hundred and fifty-five Macau students completed a questionnaire which assessed variables falling into two categories: identity-related variables, such as language proficiency and identity, and intergroup-related variables, including intergroup contact and the quality of contact, and psychological adaptation. The findings from the present study revealed that identity and quality of contact continued to make significant contributions to psychological adaptation in intra-cultural environments as in inter-cultural environments, whereas language proficiency and intergroup contact were unrelated to psychological adaptation in intra-cultural adaptation. The present study extended the adaptation research by transporting hypotheses and findings from inter-cultural adaptation and testing their validity and applicability in postcolonial contexts. 9. ICU Nurses' Perception of Sensitive Indicators of Quality of Care for ECMO Patients in Guizhou Province, China: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Objective sampling method was used to select the participants from 10 hospitals in Guizhou Province that carried out ECMO. Data were collected through questionnaire survey. Two researchers checked and recorded Epidata 3.1. SPSS 25.0 was used for statistical analysis of the data, and frequency, mean and component ratio were used for descriptive statistical analysis. The importance rating was used to reflect the degree of nurses' agreement with the indicators. Results: The results of this study showed that 79.1% of the 253 ICU nurses in Guizhou Province, China, had not participated in training and courses related to indicators of quality of care evaluation for ECMO patients. The main way for ICU nurses to acquire knowledge related to indicators of quality of care sensitivity for ECMO patients was departmental training, which accounted for 87.4%. And the other ways, in descending order, were public, the matic lectures or academic conferences, journals and magazines; their evaluation scores of the importance of most of the quality of care sensitivity indicators for ECMO patients was moderate, with the scores ranging from 73 to 150. Among them, the range of importance evaluation scores for each indicator was 4.01 ~ 4.48. Conclusion: The overall cognitive evaluation of ICU nurses in Guizhou Province, China, on most sensitivity indicators of quality of care for ECMO patients was moderate, and there is a general lack of systematic courses and training on the knowledge related to ECMO care quality sensitive indicators. 10. Response of the microbial community structure to the environmental factors during the extreme flood season in Poyang Lake, the largest freshwater lake in China.

Background: Poyang Lake is the largest freshwater lake in China, and there are several studies on the composition and diversity of bacteria in Poyang Lake, while few quantitative studies were carried out on the response of the bacterial community to environmental factors during the extreme flood season in Poyang Lake. Methods: The connected-lake heterogeneity of bacterial community composition (BCC) was investigated in Poyang Lake during the flood season in 2020. Illumina high-throughput sequencing technology was used in this study. Results: The bacterial community structure in the water was different from that in the sediment of Poyang Lake during extreme flood seasons. The bacterial diversity in water was much lower than that in sediment. In the water column, the dominant phyla were Actinobacteriota, while the composition of bacteria in sediment was more complex than that in water, and the dominant phyla in sediment were Proteobacteria, Chloroflexi, Acidobacteriota, and Actinobacteriota. The bacterial diversity in the water of Poyang Lake showed seasonal dynamics, while no seasonal variation of bacterial communities in sediment was observed. The bacterial community structure in the sediment from the two bays and channel areas of Poyang Lake can be distinguished from each other. The microbial diversity in sediment gradually increased from the Sancha Bay to the Zhouxi Bay and then to the channel, but the total nitrogen (TN) concentration in sediment (STN) and the total phosphorus (TP) concentration in sediment (STP) showed opposite trends. This might be due to the anthropogenic disturbances from the extreme flood. The bacterial community structure in, water column was significantly correlated with WT, NH4-N, STP, SOM, Chl a, DO, TP, and Eh, while the bacterial community structure in sediment was significantly correlated with SOM and STP. Conclusion: The bacterial community structure in water was greatly different from that in sediment in Poyang Lake during extreme flood seasons. The bacterial community structure in the water column was not only sensitive to the geochemical characteristics of the water but also affected by some nutrient concentrations in the sediment. 11. Nationwide law enforcement impact on the pet bird trade in China.

Conservation enforcement is a direct strategy to combat illegal wildlife trade in open markets. Yet, its large-scale effectiveness has not been widely assessed due to the lack of extensive market data. Between August 2016 and June 2017, a national coordinated enforcement campaign led by the leading Chinese authority to combat illegal migratory bird trade coincided with the largest-ever pet bird market survey across China by voluntary birdwatchers before and after the enforcement, which served as a unique natural experiment. Across 73 markets from 22 Chinese provinces, the dataset contains 140,723 birds of 346 species from 48 families and recorded a drastic decline in bird abundance traded after enforcement. Notably, species protected under China's Wildlife Protection Law declined significantly, while commercially bred species increased, although responses to enforcement were spatially heterogeneous. Our model showed that the national protection level was the best predictor for the trend of traded species, even after accounting for confounding factors such as regional baseline enforcement pressure and wild native bird populations. However, the widely traded native songbirds were not offered adequate national protection. Future policies should consider the pet bird trade patterns, target key areas of trade, and develop a more systematic market survey design to monitor trade. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cinnamomi cortex was applied to mitigate joint injury since ancient China. However, the effect of Cinnamomi cortex on gouty arthritis (GA) was rarely reported. This study aimed to explore the effect of Cinnamomi cortex on monosodium urate (MSU)-induced acute GA (AGA) in rats, and clarify the underlying mechanism. The results showed that Cinnamomi cortex extract (CE) containing rich polyphenols and flavonoids alleviated joint swelling and inflammation by reducing programmed cell death in MSU-induced AGA rats. Network pharmacology analysis showed that CE's predictive inflammatory pathways included nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) and necroptosis pathways. CE reduced expression of pyroptosis-related regulators including Gasdermin D and Caspase 1 via regulating NF-κB/NOD-like receptor thermal protein domain associated protein 3 signaling pathway in AGA rats. Objectives: To explore prevalence of depression and its influencing factors in middle-aged and elderly patients with chronic diseases. Method: Data were extracted from the 2018 China Health and Retirement Tracking Survey (CHARLS) for 6,704 middle-aged and elderly patients ≥45 years with chronic diseases. The influencing variables were selected based on LASSOlogistic regression model, and a nomogram was further drawn to visualize regression results. Results: Comorbidity between chronic diseases and depression symptoms were detected in 3058 individuals (45.6%). Female, rural, lower education, poor, insomnia, multiple chronic disease, and functional impairment were associated with a higher proportion of depression. Meanwhile, family interaction, intergenerational financial support, social activity intensity, and satisfaction with life can protect against depression. Conclusion: Depressive symptoms are common in Chinese older adults with chronic diseases. They need regular assessment and intervention, especially those with multiple diseases, female, rural, alone, impaired, poor sleep, or poor economy. Collectivist culture serves as a significant cultural foundation in China. It could, to some extent, shape public attitudes toward the environment and thus influence the implementation of related policies. To examine this hypothesis, this study constructs the collectivist culture intensity index for 25 Chinese provinces spanning from 2010 to 2020. Through a fixed-effect model, we explore how the collectivist culture intensity affects pollution emissions in China. The empirical results indicate the significance of collectivism in enhancing emission reduction through environmental regulations. This conclusion remains robust even when excluding the impact of endogeneity concerns by adopting the instrumental variable approach. Heterogeneity analysis shows that collectivism is more effective in enhancing market-based environmental regulations rather than those driven by policies. Further mechanism analysis confirms that green innovation is a crucial pathway through which collectivism influences pollution emissions. 16. Navigating Technostress in primary schools: a study on teacher experiences, school support, and health.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a global shift toward online education, which has increased the use of technology for communication, management, and remote teaching. This study aimed to investigate how primary school teachers in China used technology during the Pandemic and to what extent they experienced Technostress, as well as the impact of Technostress on work–family conflicts and technology-induced health issues. A survey was conducted among 1,172 primary school teachers, and the results revealed that teachers exhibited a moderate to a high level of Technostress during the Pandemic, with differences observed in gender, age, and headteacher duties. Furthermore, Technostress was positively correlated with work–family conflicts and technology-induced health issues. Technology use intensity was found to directly impact work–family conflicts and personal health and indirectly impact them via the agency effects of Technostress. School support moderated the indirect relationship between technology use intensity and work–family conflicts and health issues, with higher levels of school support leading to less apparent impacts of technology intensity on work–family conflicts and personal health via the agency effect of Technostress. These findings provide timely insights for post-pandemic teacher training and technology management and suggest the importance of school support in promoting sustainable educational development. 17. Teachers' Roles in Promoting Students' Learner Autonomy in China

- Abstract
Since 2007, the Ministry of Education of China has been promoting a shift from traditional teaching models to a new teaching model where students' autonomous learning skills can be enhanced. In particular, college students are encouraged to learn English free from the constraints of time or place. While learner autonomy has been perceived as contributing tremendously to student learning, it is a new concept to many local teachers and students. Many teachers even think that the emphasis on learner autonomy means teachers' functions are on the decline. This paper reports on an empirical study that investigated the current roles that teachers play in the context of learner autonomy. Through a questionnaire, the study reveals that teachers took on more challenging and multiple roles in the new teaching model. Meanwhile, the structural model for teachers' roles has been built so as to give implications to college English teachers in China.

19. Naodesheng decoction regulating vascular function via G-protein-coupled receptors: network analysis and experimental investigations.

Introduction: Ischemic stroke (IS) is a detrimental neurological disease with limited treatment options. Recanalization of blocked blood vessels and restoring blood supply to ischemic brain tissue are crucial for post-stroke rehabilitation. The decoction Naodesheng (NDS) composed of five Chinese botanical drugs, including Panax notoginseng (Burk.) F. H. Chen, Ligusticum chuanxiong Hort., Carthamus tinctorius L., Pueraria lobata (Willd.) Ohwi, and Crataegus pinnatifida Bge., is a blood-activating and stasis-removing herbal medicine commonly used for the clinical treatment of cerebrovascular diseases in China. However, the material basis of NDS on the effects of blood circulation improvement and vascular tone regulation remains unclear. Methods: A database comprising 777 chemical metabolites of NDS was constructed. Then, the interactions between various herbal metabolites of NDS and five vascular tone modulation G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), including 5-HT1AR, 5-HT1BR, ß2-AR, AT1R, and ETBR, were assessed by molecular docking. Using network analysis and vasomotor experiment of the cerebral basilar artery, the potential material basis underlying the vascular regulatory effects of NDS was further explored. Results: The Naodesheng Effective Component Group (NECG) was found to induce relaxation of rat basilar artery rings precontracted using Endothelin-1 (ET-1) and KCl in vitro in a dose-dependent manner. Several metabolites of NDS, including C. tinctorius, C. pinnatifida, and P. notoginseng, were found to be the main plant resources of metabolites with high docking scores. Furthermore, several metabolites in NDS, including formononetin-7-glucoside, hydroxybenzoyl-coumaric anhydride, methoxymecambridine, puerarol, and pyrethrin II, were found to target multiple vascular GPCRs. Metabolites with moderate-to-high binding energy were verified to have good rat basilar arteryrelaxing effects, and the maximum artery relaxation effects of all three metabolites, namely, isorhamnetin, kaempferol, and daidzein, were found to exceed 90%. Moreover, metabolites of NDS were found to exert a synergistic effect by interacting with vascular GPCR targets, and these metabolites may contribute to the cerebrovascular regulatory function of NDS. INTRODUCTION Nursing staff's assistance for smokers to quit smoking can increase the rate of quitting. The smoking cessation help can be affected by many factors. This study surveyed the use of the 5As (Asking, Advising, Assessing, Assisting, Arranging) approach to support smoking cessation by the nursing staff in Chongqing, China, and analyzed the corresponding influencing factors. METHODS A stratified random cluster sampling method was used to select nursing staff from 8 tertiary hospitals, 5 secondary hospitals, 12 community health centers, and 35 township health centers in different geographical regions of Chongqing. A questionnaire survey was conducted among the nursing staff to investigate their participation in smoking cessation. Binary logistic regression analysis was employed to analyze the influencing factors of smoking cessation 5As behavior of the nursing staff. RESULTS The 1669 participants were 44 males (2.6%) and 1625 females (97.4%), with an average age of 37.00 ± 10.89 years. Among the participants, 55.2% were from tertiary hospitals, 23.2% from secondary hospitals, 14.2% from township health centers, and 7.4 from community health centers. The often or always used behaviors were: Asking, 69.2%; Advising, 53.0%; Assessing, 39.5%; Assisting, 33.7%; and Arranging, 25.1%. The factors that affected all the 5As were: smoking cessation training (AOR=1.60; 95% CI: 1.22-2.11), knowledge of smoking cessation guidelines (AOR=1.75; 95% CI: 1.32-2.32) and the use of smoking cessation Apps (AOR=1.50; 95% CI: 1.09--2.06), and smokers' willingness to quit (AOR=2.20; 95% CI: 1.60-3.02). CONCLUSIONS Smoker's motivation to quit smoking and nurses' knowledge of tobacco cessation resources affected nurses' participation in smoking control behavior. While encouraging smokers to quit smoking, clinical nursing staff should be provided with related resources to advocate smoking cessation. Guided by the Chinese Clinical Tobacco Cessation Guidelines, smoking control knowledge and skills training should be provided for nursing staff to increase their positive attitude towards smoking control, so as to promote their active participation. China's energy-intensive industries utilize the leading proportion of coal to meet the demand for its industrial outputs, while on the other hand, these industries also assure the provision of livelihood to millions of people, and capping the share of coal consumption for these industries can adversely affect the industrial and economic growth of China. Thus, to achieve the Pareto improvement between environmental pollution and industrial output growth, it is essential to comprehend the patterns of coal consumption in these industries. Hence, the present research intended to analyze the potential drivers of coal consumption by applying a joint LMDI, DEA, and the production theoretical decomposition approach. Findings indices that, first, industrial output growth was the crucial driver to simulate the industrial coal consumption, while the potential coal intensity and coal technology changes exhibited the reverse effect. Second, the coal inputs and industrial output efficiency, along with the improvements in technological gaps, were found to be the imperative factors in decelerating coal consumption. Third, the energy industrial group was discovered to have more potentials of coal conversation as compared to the non-energy industrial group. Moreover, results also indicated that coal pure technical efficiency is accelerating coal growth, which revealed that coal can be saved by enhancing coal allocative efficiency. These findings laid the empirical ground to design a feasible coal conservation policy for achieving the imperative goals of environmental protection without compromising industrial output growth. Based on the two-stage innovation value chain model, incorporating environmental regulation policies and three-waste emissions into the research framework, constructing a green technology innovation efficiency evaluation index system from the perspectives of green inputs and outputs, and utilizing the super-efficiency SBM model and the Malmquist-Luenberger index model, assessing the effectiveness of green technological innovation in two aspects, namely, static, and dynamic, respectively. The results show that: the average value of green technical innovation efficiency of China's hightech industries is 0.5277, with significant differences between provinces, but the overall is constantly improving, showing an upward trend; the green technological innovation efficiency decreases from east to west, and the differences among the three major regions are not only embodied in spatial patterns, but also in the growth rate; during the period of investigation, the inefficient provinces are gradually decreasing, and the level of green technological innovation of China is constantly getting better; China's The average value of ML index of green technical innovation efficiency of high-tech industries in China is greater than 1, and the overall development trend is better; the increase of ML index in the eastern and central regions mainly relies on the positive influence of technological efficiency, while the decrease of ML index in the western part is affected by the recession of technological progress and technological efficiency, and the efficiency of technology research and development stage is generally higher than that of scientific and technical achievements transformation stage, and low efficiency of achievements transformation stage is mainly affected by the inhibiting effect of technological progress - inhibitory effect of technological advancement. Purpose. This paper investigates the effect of cross-reporting quality transfer: the association between the merits of the financial auditor and the quality of corporate social responsibility (CSR) reporting. Specifically, we examine whether the effect of Big Four financial audits on the CSR reporting quality of Chinese listed firms differs from that of non-Big Four firms. Design/methodology/approach. This paper uses archival data and regression analysis from a sample (5257 firm-year observations) of A-share listed firms on the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges from 2009 to 2018. Findings. The analysis shows that when a company's financial auditor is a Big Four firm, the quality of CSR reports is higher than when it is audited by non-Big Four auditor, which in turn can be explained by differences in cross-reporting quality transfer between Big Four and non-Big Four firms. Moreover, this effect is more pronounced in non-stateowned enterprises (NSOEs) than in state-owned enterprises (SOEs), and among firms residing in high-pressure legal environments as opposed to low-pressure regions. Originality. This study extends the literature on the quality of CSR reporting based on the type of financial reporting audit provider, thus bridging the gap between financial audit and sustainability reporting practice and elucidating the cross-reporting quality transfer effect. Practical implications. The paper's findings shed light on the impact that Big Four firms have on the quality of CSR reports through financial audits, thus confirming the cross-reporting quality transfer effect in China. These findings might appeal to political decision-makers, authorities and companies given the notable contribution of CSR disclosure to the decision-making processes of stakeholders. The Cr, Mn, Cu, Se, Ni, As, Hg, Cd, Pb, Zn, and Fe levels in chicken, duck, and quail eggs from Jiangxi Province were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), and the potential risks to human health were evaluated. The levels of trace elements from Jiangxi Province were not above the Chinese national standard. The target hazard quotient (THQ) values for the elements and total THQ for a combination of trace elements were <1, suggesting the absence of health risk from trace elements. The carcinogenic risks (CRs) of As, Cd, Cr, and Pb in all egg samples were negligible or within the acceptable range. These results demonstrate that trace element levels in eggs from Jiangxi Province of China were low and not associated with human health risk. In addition, levels of Fe and Zn were higher in quail eggs (30,166 and 172,356 lg.kg

A new organization often encounters the liability of newness that increases its chance of failing as a startup enterprise (Freeman, Carroll, and Hannan 1983). New organizations located in a foreign country also face the liability of foreignness (Zaheer and Mosakowski 1997), as cultural differences make new foreign ventures especially risky. Moreover, according to organizational theory, legitimacy is critical to an organization's success or failure (Meyer and Rowan 1977; Singh, Tucker, and House 1986; Vanhonackers 2000; Bianchi and Ostale 2006; Diez-Martin, Prado-Roman, and Blanco-González 2013). By gaining legitimacy, organizations can obtain the resources they need to become sustainable. Similarly, a lack of legitimacy can lead an organization to lose (or never establish) its social support, thus increasing its chance of failure.

Gravity Anomaly Correction (GAC) is a very important term in leveling data processing. In most cases, it is troublesome for field surveyors to measure gravity when leveling. In this paper, based on the complete Bouguer Gravity Anomaly (BGA) map of WGM2012, the feasibility of replacing in-situ gravity surveying in China is investigated. For leveling application, that is to evaluate the accuracy of WGM2012 in China. Because WGM2012 is organized with a standard rectangle grid, two interpolation methods, bilinear interpolating and Inverse Distance Weighted (IDW) interpolating, are proposed. Four sample areas in China, i. e., Hanzhong, Chengdu, Linzhi and Shantou, are selected to evaluate the systems bias and precision of WGM2012. Numerical results show the average system bias of WGM2012 BGA in west China is about -100.1 mGal (1 mGal = 10 5 m/s2) and the standard deviation is about 30.7 mGal. Tests in Shantou indicate the system bias in plain areas is about -130.4 mGal and standard deviation is about 6.8 mGal. All these experiments means the accuracy of WGM2012 is limited in high mountain areas of western China, but in plain areas, such as Shantou, WGM2012 BGA map is quite good for most leveling applications after calibrating the system bias. INTRODUCTION The home is the primary source of children's exposure to secondhand smoke. This study investigated the status and influencing factors of child exposure to secondhand smoke at home when people smoke in the household. METHODS Participants with at least one child living in their household from 10 communities in Chongqing were recruited and provided a self-administered questionnaire using a multistage proportional random sampling design from June to August 2021. The chi-squared test and binary logistic regression analyses were used to identify influencing factors. RESULTS The questionnaire completed by 1345 families showed that 631 (46.9%) families lived with smokers in their household, and 509 (80.7%) of those families reported that smoking occurred within the home while the children were present. Binary logistic regression analyses demonstrated that the time between waking up and household smokers having the first cigarette of the day (OR=0.44; 95% CI: 0.22-0.85), changes to smoking habits and behaviors within the last six months (OR=1.76; 95% CI: 1.06-2.90), attitudes towards tobacco control in the household (OR=2.91; 95% CI: 1.72-4.92), self-efficacy in maintaining a smoke-free home (OR=2.27; 95% CI: 1.36-3.79), having rules to maintain a smoke-free home (OR=3.25; 95% CI: 1.68-6.29), and the status of providing cigarettes to guests at home (OR=11.0; 95% CI: 1.33-90.8) were associated with exposure to SHS. CONCLUSIONS Education focusing on the impact of smoking on children's health should be encouraged. Smoke-free homes should be established, and smoking restrictions in the household should be enacted. Therefore, information about the available tobacco-control services should be given to family members and be used properly. Background: During computed tomography (CT) examinations, the presence of radiation material undoubtedly has a certain impact on patients, particularly children, who are more susceptible to radiation. Consequently, finding ways to minimize radiation dosage and mitigate radiation-related risks while enhancing the quality and accuracy of CT scans has become a crucial concern for medical professionals in CT equipment manufacturing companies and radiology departments to contemplate. Objectives: This study aimed to explore the feasibility of low dose and low contrast medium combined with low flow rate scanning in CT angiography (CTA) of children's liver. Patients and Methods: A total of 59 children who visited our department for liver vascular CT scans between April 2021 and December 2022 were prospectively selected and randomly divided into 2 groups: the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group consisted of 28 children who received an injection of 80 kV, automatic tube current, low contrast dose (1.5 mL/kg), and low flow rate of 20 s. The control group included 31 children who were injected with 100 kV, automatic tube current, contrast agent dose (2 mL/kg), and flow rate of 16 s. The objective and subjective image quality, radiation dose, and iodine intake in the arterial, portal, and venous phases were compared between the 2 groups. Results: During the arterial, portal, and venous phases, the experimental group exhibited lower signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) compared to the control group (P < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference in subjective quality scores between the 2 groups (P> 0.05). The effective dose (ED), volume CT dose index (CTDI
vol ), and dose-length product (DLP) of the experimental group were lower than those of the control group (P< 0.05). Additionally, the iodine intake in the experimental group was lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: In the examination of hepatic vascular CTA in children, the use of a 3-low scanning technique can effectively decrease radiation and contrast agents while ensuring sufficient image quality for accurate clinical diagnosis. 30. Treatment attrition rates and relevant risk factors in multiple myeloma: A real-world study in China.

Background: For multiple myeloma (MM), the proportions of patients reaching the subsequent line of therapy (LOT) decline gradually and real-world data describing the attrition rates of LOT in Chinese MM were limited. Herein, we investigated the attrition rates by subsequent LOTs and their relevant risk factors in MM patients in China. Methods: MM patients who had been hospitalized and received at least one LOT from January 2008 to August 2019 in West China Hospital Sichuan University were retrospectively recruited. Demographic and clinical characteristic data were obtained from the "HemaTank" Chinese Multiple Myeloma Database. The Cox proportional hazards regression model was applied to analyze the risk factors of frontline treatment attrition. Results: A total of 1,255 newly diagnosedMMwere enrolled, with 573 (45.7%) patients receiving only one LOT and 682 (54.3%) patients receiving more than one LOT. Thalidomide with dexamethasone/prednisone was the most common frontline treatment before 2017, while bortezomib-based regimens constituted the majority of frontline treatment in 2017 and beyond. The attrition rates from the first to the fifth LOT exhibited a gradual upward trend (45.7%, 48.7%, 58.9% and 62.5%, respectively). Meanwhile, 54.3%, 27.9%, 11.5%, and 4.3% of all the enrolled MM patients received a second, third, fourth and fifth LOT. MM who underwent autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) showed lower attrition rates across all LOTs (range 12%-56.8%) than MM without ASCT (range 49.1%-64.5%). The multivariate Cox regression model revealed that ISS stage III (HR 2.07, p < .001), elevated LDH (HR 1.47, p = .006), and comorbidities such as amyloidosis (HR 1.63, p = 0 .01), hepatic disease (HR 1.36, p = .022), pulmonary disease (HR 1.38, p = .022), and cardiac disease (HR 1.62, p = .004) were independent risk factors for MM patients attritted from the frontline treatment. Conclusion: In this study, the attrition rates were generally high and increased gradually across all LOTs. Nearly half of MM patients received only one LOT, and higher tumor burden and more comorbidities may be associated with fewer subsequent LOTs. The high attrition rates highlight the importance of applying the most optimal frontline treatment regimen rather than salvaging subsequent LOTs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As the global challenges facing sustainability issues continue to expand, the issues of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and ethical governance have become the focus of continued academic attention. CSR is important for firms to enhance their reputation and promote sustainable development. Using A-share listed firms from 2012 to 2019, this study empirically investigates the effect of CSR fulfillment on internal control and firm financial performance by constructing a regression model. The results show that there is a positive relationship between CSR and firm financial performance. Therefore, CSR fulfillment effectively improves the firm financial performance. Furthermore, this study finds that there is a partial mediating effect of internal control between CSR fulfillment and firm financial performance. Therefore, good internal control leads the firm to implement CSR, strengthen management, and improve financial performance. Further results show that the nature of ownership plays a moderating role in the mediating effect of internal control. This study enriches the mechanism of CSR on firm financial performance. The past landslides from landslide inventory are essential for machine learning (ML)-based landslide susceptibility assessment (LSA). They determine not only the positive samples (characterized by the past landslides) but also the negative samples (randomly generated based on past landslides) for training and validating the ML models. However, the number of past landslides is often limited because of the constraints of time, budget, and resources available, etc. In other words, the available data for establishing landslide susceptibility ML models are limited, which indicates that the accuracy and reliability of the corresponding models are insufficient. This article, therefore, proposes using a new landslide susceptibility index-based sampling strategy to enhance the positive and negative samples for model training and validation to reach an improved ML-based LSA. To realize this idea, landslide susceptibility analysis based on initial datasets compiled from landslide inventory by using three ML models, i.e., random forest (RF), gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT) and support vector machine (SVM), are first conducted to obtain the initial landslide susceptibility indices at different space locations. Then, the landslide susceptibility indices are analyzed with the proposed sampling strategy which considers directly the grid units with very high and very low landslide susceptibility indices as potential positive and negative samples, respectively, to enrich the initial dataset; and the number of these positive/negative samples is determined by a Bayesian optimization algorithm. Thereafter, the ML models are updated with the enriched datasets. Finally, to verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategy, the improved models are applied to assess the landslide susceptibility of Taojiang County, China, and the results are compared with those from initial corresponding models without updating. The results show that compared with the initial RF, GBDT and SVM models, the corresponding improved models have a better performance in accuracy, precision, recall rate, and specificity. In particular, the AUC values of the three models are increased by 11.94%, 10.72% and 0.57%, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Shared decision-making (SDM) is a scientific and reasonable decision-making model. However, whether physicians choose SDM is usually influenced by many factors. It is not clear whether the strained doctor-patient relationship will affect physicians' willingness to choose SDM. Through a survey by questionnaire, 304 physicians' evaluations of doctor-patient relationship (DPR) were quantified by the difficult DPR questionnaire-8. Their preferences for SDMand the reasons were also evaluated. The correlation between physicians' evaluations of DPR and their preferences for SDM were analyzed. 84.5% physicians perceived DPR as poor or strained, 53.3% physicians preferred SDM, mainly because of the influences of medical ethics and social desirability bias. Their preferences for SDM were not significantly correlated with their evaluations of DPR (P > 0.05). Physicians with different evaluations of DPR (good, poor, and strained) all had similar preferences for SDM (42.6, 56.4, and 42.9%), with no significant difference (P > 0.05). There was no correlation between physicians' evaluations of DPR and their preferences for SDM. Physicians' evaluations of poor DPR did not affect their preferences for SDM. Background: Minor hallucination (MH) is the most common psychotic symptom in Parkinson's disease (PD); it can develop into well-structured visual hallucination (VH), suggesting that MH may be a staccato form of well-structured VH. However, it remains unclear whether the pathogenesis is the same. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the altered gray matter volume (GMV) and functional connectivity (FC) of MH in PD to further understand the complex mechanisms. Materials and methods: We included 67 PD patients who attended the outpatient clinic of Nanjing Medical University Affiliated Brain Hospital and recruited 31 healthy controls (HC). Demographic data and clinical characteristics of all subjects were recorded, and cranial structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and resting-state functional MRI data were acquired. Patients were classified into the PD with MH (PD-MH) group and PD without hallucinations or delusions (PD-NH) group. Voxel-based morphometry was used to analyze the differences in GMV in the structural pattern. Seed-based FC was used to analyze the functional pattern. Gaussian random field correction was used, with voxel level P < 0.001 and cluster level P < 0.05 representing statistically significant differences. Finally, the correlation between FC values and scores on the clinical characteristics assessment scale was analyzed. Results: In the GMV analysis, compared to the PD-NH group, the PD-MH group had reduced GMV in the medial superior frontal gyrus (SFGmed). In the FC analysis, the FC between the SFGmed and the left middle occipital gyrus and right calcarine sulcus decreased in the PD-MH group compared with the PD-NH group, while the FC between SFGmed and the left middle temporal gyrus increased. Correlation analysis revealed that the FC values of the SFGmed and right calcarine sulcus were correlated with the assessment scores for anxiety and sleep symptoms. The FC values of the SFGmed and left middle occipital gyrus were correlated with assessment scores for rapid eye movement disorder. Conclusion: The aberrant structure and function of the default mode network and visual processing areas seems to facilitate the generation of MH in PD, as the alteration was previously found in well-structured VH, suggesting that the two hallucinations have similar pathophysiological mechanisms. 35. Clinical benefit and risk of elemene in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Introduction: Elemene injection and oral emulsion, known as elemene, have been utilized have been used in adjuvant therapy for cancer patients in China for more than 20 years. In order to evaluate the efficacy and potential risks of the treatments in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, a system review and meta-analysis were conducted. Additionally, the factors that may influence the outcomes were also explored. Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted across various databases including PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, EMBASE, CKNI, Wan Fang, and VIP databases. Meta-regression, subgroup, and sensitivity analyses were conducted to explore the heterogeneity. GRADE system and TSA were used to assess the strength of evidence and robustness of the results. Results: The pooled data showed that combination with elemene could improve the response rate (RR:1.48, 95%CI:1.38-1.60, p < 0.00001), disease control rate (RR:1.20, 95%CI:1.15-1.25, p < 0.00001), the rate of quality-of-life improvement and stability (WMD:1.31, 95% CI:1.12-1.53, p = 0.0006), immune function (CD4+/ CD8+: WMD:0.33, 95% CI:0.24-0.42, p < 0.00001), survival rate (1-year, RR:1.34, 95% CI:1.15-1.56, p = 0.0002; 2-year, RR:1.57, 95% CI:1.14-2.16, p = 0.006), and decrease the prevalence of most chemotherapy-induced side effects, especially leukopenia (III-IV) (RR:0.46, 95% CI:0.35-0.61, p < 0.00001), thrombocytopenia (RR:0.86, 95% CI:0.78-0.95, p = 0.003), and hemoglobin reduction (RR:0.83, 95% CI:0.73-0.95, p = 0.007). However, the administration of elemene has been found to significantly increase the incidence of phlebitis in patients undergoing chemotherapy (RR:3.41, 95% CI:1.47-7.93, p = 0.004). Meta-regression and subgroup analyses discovered that the outcomes were rarely influenced by CR, CT, and dosage of elemene (DE) but the cycle number of elemene (CNE) and TT were the main sources of heterogeneity. Discussion: As the treatment time and the number of cycles increased, the efficacy of the elemene combination decreased across various aspects. 36. How Much Can TFA Boost Sustainable International Trade? --Evidence from RCEP and China.

In February 2017, as the first multilateral agreement on trade since the establishment of the WTO, the Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) came into effect. Hitherto, however, there is still very little evidence on the factual effect of trade facilitation on promoting international trade. Based on panel data from 2017-2021, using a trade gravity model and the least squares regression analysis, this paper explores the impact of the implementation of the TFA on the import and export values between China and five RCEP countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam). The results demonstrate that China's trade facilitation level is significantly and positively related to the trade flow of goods. In addition, the population size of RCEP countries is also positively correlated with the trade flows between the two sides. 1 per cent of Trade Facilitation Index (TFI) can increase trade flows by US$10,352.9 million. It is recommended to actively promote the development of trade facilitation, including the formation of RCEP logistics industry alliance, the establishment of one-stop digital customs, the acceleration of Cross-border E-commerce, as well as the reasonable use of blockchain. 37. Establishment of a risk prediction model for multidrug-resistant bacteria in deceased organ donors: a retrospective cohort study in China.

Background: Multidrug resistance in bacteria is a serious problem in organ transplantations. This study aimed to identify risk factors and establish a predictive model for screening deceased organ donors for multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine from July 1, 2019 to December 31, 2022. The univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to determine independent risk factors associated with MDR bacteria in organ donors. A nomogram was established based on these risk factors. A calibration plot, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used to estimated the model. Results: In 164 organ donors, the incidence of MDR bacteria in culture was 29.9%. The duration of antibiotic use ≥3 days (odds ratio [OR] 3.78, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.62–8.81, p=0.002), length of intensive care unit (ICU) stay per day(OR 1.06, 95% CI 1.02–1.11, p=0.005) and neurosurgery (OR 3.31, 95% CI 1.44–7.58, p=0.005) were significant independent predictive factors for MDR bacteria. The nomogram constructed using these three predictors displayed good predictive ability, with an area under the ROC curve value of 0.79. The calibration curve showed a high consistency between the probabilities and observed values. DCA also revealed the potential clinical usefulness of this nomogram. Conclusions: The duration of antibiotic use ≥3 days, length of ICU stay and neurosurgery are independent risk factors for MDR bacteria in organ donors. Tick-borne viruses (TBVs) have increasingly caused a global public health concern. This study collected Rhipicephalus ticks in Guangdong, southern China to identify RNA viruses. Meta-transcriptome analysis revealed the virome in Rhipicephalus ticks, resulting in the discovery of 10 viruses, including Lihan tick virus, Brown dog tick phlebovirus 1 and 2 in the family Phenuiviridae, Mivirus and Wuhan tick virus 2 in the family Chuviridae, Wuhan tick virus 1 in the family Rhabdoviridae, bovine hepacivirus in the family Flaviviridae, Guangdong tick quaranjavirus (GTQV) in the family Orthomyxoviridae, Guangdong tick orbivirus (GTOV) in the family Reoviridae, and Guangdong tick Manly virus (GTMV) of an unclassified family. Phylogenetic analysis showed that most of these TBVs were genetically related to the strains in countries outside China, and GTQV, GTOV, and GTMV may represent novel viral species. These findings provided evidence of the long-distance spread of these TBVs in Guangdong, southern China, suggesting the necessity and importance of TBV surveillance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

40. The effect of ginsenosides on liver injury in preclinical studies: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Liver injury is a severe liver lesion caused by various etiologies and is one of the main areas of medical research. Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer has traditionally been used as medicine to treat diseases and regulate body functions. Ginsenosides are the main active components of ginseng, and their effects on liver injury have been extensively reported. Methods: Preclinical studies meeting the inclusion criteria were retrieved from PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Wan Fang Data Knowledge Service Platforms. The Stata 17.0 was used to perform the meta-analysis, meta-regression, and subgroup analysis. Results: This meta-analysis included ginsenosides Rb1, Rg1, Rg3, and compound K (CK), in 43 articles. The overall results showed that multiple ginsenosides significantly reduced alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST), affected oxidative stress-related indicators, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and catalase (CAT), and reduced levels of inflammatory factor, such as factor-a (TNF-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6). Additionally, there was a large amount of heterogeneity in the meta-analysis results. Our predefined subgroup analysis shows that the animal species, the type of liver injury model, the duration of treatment, and the administration route may be the sources of some of the heterogeneity. Conclusion: In a word, ginsenosides have good efficacy against liver injury, and their potential mechanisms of action target antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and apoptotic-related pathways. Cowpea plants exhibiting virescence, phyllody and little leaf symptoms were observed in the fields of Zhanjiang City, Guangdong province of China in October 2020. Total DNA was extracted from symptomatic cowpea leaves. Using phytoplasma universal primer pairs (R16mF2/R16mR1, P1/P7) and a secA primer pair (secAfor1/secArev3), expected PCR fragments of approximately 1400, 1800 and 800 bp were amplified from all symptomatic cowpea leaves. MUSCLE analysis revealed that the representative 16S rRNA gene sequence of cowpea phyllody phytoplasma (CPP) shared 98.67% nucleotide identity with the reference strain WBDL of 'Ca. Phytoplasma aurantifolia' (GenBank accession number U15442); and 100% nucleotide identity with 16SrII-V phytoplasmas associated with 'Praxelis clematidea' phyllody (GenBank accession number KY568717); 'Desmodium triflorum' little leaf (GenBank accession number MT452308); and 'Ixeris chinensis', 'Emilia sonchifolia', and 'Desmodium ovalifolium' witches' broom (GenBank accession number MT416114, MT420682 and MK956144, respectively). Phylogenetic analyses based on the 16S rRNA and secA gene sequences revealed that the CPP strain clustered with the 16SrII-V subgroup and 16SrII group, respectively. Virtual restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis of the 16S rRNA sequence revealed that CPP was associated with the 16SrII-V subgroup. To our knowledge, this is the first report of the16SrII-V subgroup of phytoplasmas associated with cowpea phyllody disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection has become a major public health issue affecting human health. The main goal of epidemic prevention and control at the current stage in China is to "protect people's health and prevent severe cases". Patients with lung cancer who receive antitumor therapy have low immunity, and the risk of severe illness and death once infected is much higher than healthy people, so they are vulnerable to COVID-19 infection. At present, less attention has been paid to the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 infection in patients with lung cancer in domestic guidelines and consensus. Based on the published data in China and abroad, we proposed recommendations and formed expert consensus on the vaccination of COVID-19, the use of neutralizing antibodies and small molecule antiviral drugs for patients with lung cancer, for physician's reference. 43. Molecular detection and phylogenetic analysis of lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus in ticks in Jilin Province, northeastern China.

Lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV) is a neglected rodent-borne zoonotic virus in the genus Mammarenavirus and family Arenaviridae, that can cause aseptic meningitis in humans. A recent study identified infectious LCMV in ticks in northeastern (NE) China. To explore the distribution of LCMV, we determined the prevalence and genetically characterized LCMV in ticks in Jilin Province, NE China. Ticks collected in Huadian, Dunhua, and Jiaohe were pooled and LCMV was detected using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. The complete genomes of the LCMV-positive pools were amplified and used for phylogenetic analysis. A total of 1679 questing and engorged ticks were collected and divided into 170 pools, including Ixodes persulcatus (5%), Dermacentor silvarum (89%), and Haemaphysalis japonica (6%). Twenty-four pools of D. silvarum (14.9%, 95% CI:9.5-22.3) and three pools of H. japonica (36.3%, 95% CI:9.8-99.5) collected from cattle were LCMV-positive. No I. persulcatus pools were identified as LCMV-positive. Two complete genome sequences (strains JL-DH01 and JL-DH02) were successfully amplified. They had nucleotide identities of 96.4-99.8% with strains JX31, JX14, DH46, and JX4 identified in ticks from Jilin Province. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that JL-DH01 and JL-DH02 clustered with Jilin strains in the same branch and belonged to genotype I. The findings add to the knowledge of the genetic diversity and geographical distribution of LCMV in ticks in NE China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The research examines the role of market expansion and international labor division in the British Industrial Revolution from the perspective of globalization. The research shows that British cotton textile output in pieces grew 275 times from the 1770s to the mid-1850s and documents that such growth would never have happened without a vast overseas market for the supply of raw cotton and the sale of products. The paper argues that the continuous and dramatic expansion of overseas markets allowed the British cotton industry to expand greatly without hitting the ceiling of marginal returns, leading not only to the great expansion of production, but also to technological and institutional innovations, and that international labor division made it possible for the industry to import ample amounts of raw cotton and export large amounts of cotton textiles. In contrast, foreign demand for Chinese cotton textiles increased significantly in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, but accounted for only 0.3% of production capacity, which was too little to lift the law of diminishing marginal returns and to induce either technological or institutional changes. Changbai Mountain, located in northeast China, is one of the areas with the most complete natural ecosystem preservation in China. A new species, Didymodon changbaiensis C.Feng, J.Kou, H.-X. Xiao & T.-T. Wu from north slope of Changbai Mountain in Jilin Province of China is described and illustrated. It is characterised by ovate or ovate-lanceolate leaves that are appressed when dry, acute leaf apex, lamina red or reddish-orange with KOH, unistratose lamina throughout, plane and unistratose leaf margins, percurrent costa with one layer of guide cells and without ventral stereids, upper and middle laminal cells with elliptical papillae over the transverse walls between two immediately adjacent cells and basal laminal cells not differentiated from the median cells. Our morphological analyses and molecular results, based on DNA sequences of ITS, rps4 and trnM-trnV, confirm that D. changbaiensis is revealed to be sister to D. daqingii J. Kou, R.H. Zander & C. Feng. This new species is compared with similar species and its phylogenetic position and ecology are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background The reported number of cases and deaths from common infectious diseases can change during major public health crises. We explored whether the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) had an impact on tuberculosis (TB) incidence and mortality in China based on routinely reported TB data. Methods We used TB data used from the monthly national notifiable infectious disease reports in China from January 2015 to January 2023. Based on an interrupted time series (ITS) design, we applied Poisson and negative binomial regression models to assess the changes of reported TB incidence and mortality before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results We found a significant and immediate decrease in the levels of both reported TB incidence (relative risk (RR) = 0.887; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.810-0.973) and mortality (RR=0.448; 95% CI=0.351-0.572) at the start of COVID-19 outbreak. During the pandemic, the slope of reported incidence decreased significantly (RR=0.994; 95% CI=0.989-0.999), while the slope of reported mortality increased sharply (RR=1.032; 95% CI=1.022-1.041) owing to an abrupt rise in reported mortality after January 2022. Conclusions Both TB incidence and mortality decreased immediately at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. 47. Sensitivity analysis of Biome-BGCMuSo for gross and net primary productivity of typical forests in China.

Background: Process-based models are widely used to simulate forest productivity, but complex parameterization and calibration challenge the application and development of these models. Sensitivity analysis of numerous parameters is an essential step in model calibration and carbon flux simulation. However, parameters are not dependent on each other, and the results of sensitivity analysis usually vary due to different forest types and regions. Hence, global and representative sensitivity analysis would provide reliable information for simple calibration. Methods: To determine the contributions of input parameters to gross primary productivity (GPP) and net primary productivity (NPP), regression analysis and extended Fourier amplitude sensitivity testing (EFAST) were conducted for Biome-BGCMuSo to calculate the sensitivity index of the parameters at four observation sites under climate gradient from ChinaFLUX. Results: Generally, GPP and NPP were highly sensitive to C:N
leaf (C:N of leaves), Wint (canopy water interception coefficient), k (canopy light extinction coefficient), FLNR (fraction of leaf N in Rubisco), MRpern (coefficient of linear relationship between tissue N and maintenance respiration), VPDf (vapor pressure deficit complete conductance reduction), and SLA1 (canopy average specific leaf area in phenological phase 1) at all observation sites. Various sensitive parameters occurred at four observation sites within different climate zones. GPP and NPP were particularly sensitive to FLNR, SLA1 and Wint , and C:Nleaf in temperate, alpine and subtropical zones, respectively. Conclusions: The results indicated that sensitivity parameters of China's forest ecosystems change with climate gradient. We found that parameter calibration should be performed according to plant functional type (PFT), and more attention needs to be paid to the differences in climate and environment. Context: Although gonadotropin-releasing hormone stimulation test (GnRHST) is the gold standard in diagnosing central precocious puberty (CPP), it is invasive, expensive, and time-consuming, requiring multiple blood samples to measure gonadotropin levels.Objective: We evaluated whether urinary hormones could be potential biomarkers for prepuberty or postpuberty, aiming to simplify the current diagnosis and prognosis procedure.Methods: We performed a cross-sectional study of a total of 355 girls with CPP in National Clinical Research Center for Child Health in China, including 258 girls with positive and 97 girls with negative results from GnRHST. Twenty patients received GnRH analogue (GnRHa) treatment and completed a 6-month follow up. We measured luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), estradiol, prolactin, progesterone, testosterone, and human chorionic gonadotropin in the first morning voided urine samples.Results: Their urinary LH levels and the ratios of LH to FSH increased significantly with the advancement in Tanner stages. uLH levels were positively associated with basal and peak LH levels in the serum after GnRH stimulation. A cutoff value of 1.74 IU/L for uLH reached a sensitivity of 69.4% and a specificity of 75.3% in predicting a positive GnRHST result. For the combined threshold (uLH ≥ 1.74 + uLH-to-uFSH ratio > 0.4), the specificity reached 86.6%. After 3 months of GnRHa therapy, the uLH and uFSH levels decreased accordingly.Conclusion: uLH could be a reliable biomarker for initial CPP diagnosis and screening; uLH could also be an effective marker for evaluating the efficacy of clinical treatment.
