Chemical activation of the intrinsically inert basal planes of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) is crucial for developing high-efficiency electrocatalysts for energy technology applications. Here we report the discovery of an efficient TMD-based topological catalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), containing high-density single-atom reactive centers on a few-layer (7x7)-PtTe2-x superstructure with a Te-vacancy density of x. Compared with pristine Pt(111), PtTe2, and (2x2)-PtTe2-x, (7x7)-PtTe2-x exhibits superior HER performance owing to its substantially increased density of undercoordinated Pt sites, and displays exceptional catalytic stability when operating at high current densities. Our first-principles calculations confirm that multiple types of undercoordinated Pt sites on (7x7)-PtTe2-x exhibit favorable hydrogen adsorption Gibbs free energies, and that the reactive sites can further increase their population upon increasing hydrogen coverage. Both the (2x2)- and (7x7)-PtTe2-x are also shown to possess nontrivial band topology with robust edge states that may further facilitate HER.

Light field (LF) depth estimation is a crucial task with numerous practical applications. However, mainstream methods based on the multi-view stereo (MVS) are resource-intensive and time-consuming as they need to construct a finer cost volume. To address this issue and achieve a better trade-off between accuracy and efficiency, we propose an occlusion-aware cascade cost volume for LF depth (disparity) estimation. Our cascaded strategy reduces the sampling number while keeping the sampling interval constant during the construction of a finer cost volume. We also introduce occlusion maps to enhance accuracy in constructing the occlusion-aware cost volume. Specifically, we first obtain the coarse disparity map through the coarse disparity estimation network. Then, the sub-aperture images (SAIs) of side views are warped to the center view based on the initial disparity map. Next, we propose photo-consistency constraints between the warped SAIs and the center SAI to generate occlusion maps for each SAI. Finally, we introduce the coarse disparity map and occlusion maps to construct an occlusion-aware refined cost volume, enabling the refined disparity estimation network to yield a more precise disparity map. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. Compared with state-of-the-art methods, our method achieves a superior balance between accuracy and efficiency and ranks first in terms of MSE and Q25 metrics among published methods on the HCI 4D benchmark. RE-Ba-Cu-O (RE denotes rare earth elements) single-grain superconductors have garnered considerable attention owning to their ability to trap strong magnetic field and self-stability for maglev. Here, we employed a modified melt-growth method by adding liquid source (LS) to provide a liquid rich environment during crystal growth. It further enables a significantly low maximum processing temperature (Tmax) even approaching peritectic decomposition temperature. This method was referred as the liquid source rich low Tmax (LS+LTmax) growth method which combines the advantage of Top Seeded Infiltration Growth (TSIG) into Top Seeded Melt-texture Growth (TSMG). The LS+LTmax method synergistically regulates the perfect appearance and high superconducting performance in REBCO single grains. The complementary role of liquid source and low Tmax on the crystallization has been carefully investigated. Microstructure analysis demonstrates that the LS+LTmax processed GdBCO single grains show clear advantages of uniform distribution of RE3+ ions as well as RE211 particles. The inhibition of Gd211 coarsening leads to improved pining properties. GdBCO single-grain superconductors with diameter of 18 mm and 25 mm show maximum trapped magnetic field of 0.746 T and 1.140 T at 77 K. These trapped fields are significantly higher than those of conventional TSMG samples. Particularly, at grain boundaries with reduced RE211 density superior flux pinning performance has been observed. It indicates the existence of multiple pinning mechanisms at these areas. The presented strategy provides essential LS+LTmax technology for processing high performance single-grain superconductors with improved reliability which is considered important for engineering applications.

Light field (LF) depth estimation plays a crucial role in many LF-based applications. Existing LF depth estimation methods consider depth estimation as a regression problem, where a pixel-wise L1 loss is employed to supervise the training process. However, the disparity map is only a sub-space projection (i.e., an expectation) of the disparity distribution, which is essential for models to learn. In this paper, we propose a simple yet effective method to learn the sub-pixel disparity distribution by fully utilizing the power of deep networks, especially for LF of narrow baselines. We construct the cost volume at the sub-pixel level to produce a finer disparity distribution and design an uncertainty-aware focal loss to supervise the predicted disparity distribution toward the ground truth. Extensive experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.Our method significantly outperforms recent state-of-the-art LF depth algorithms on the HCI 4D LF Benchmark in terms of all four accuracy metrics (i.e., BadPix 0.01, BadPix 0.03, BadPix 0.07, and MSE $\times$100). In reinforcement learning (RL), we always expect the agent to explore as many states as possible in the initial stage of training and exploit the explored information in the subsequent stage to discover the most returnable trajectory. Based on this principle, in this paper, we soften the proximal policy optimization by introducing the entropy and dynamically setting the temperature coefficient to balance the opportunity of exploration and exploitation. While maximizing the expected reward, the agent will also seek other trajectories to avoid the local optimal policy. Nevertheless, the increase of randomness induced by entropy will reduce the train speed in the early stage. Integrating the temporal-difference (TD) method and the general advantage estimator (GAE), we propose the dual-track advantage estimator (DTAE) to accelerate the convergence of value functions and further enhance the performance of the algorithm.
