Born in Cobourg on December 17, 1840, he is the eldest son of William and Margaret Christiana Graveley. He attended the Upper Canada College. He served as a trooper in the troop of dragoons by Colonel D'Arcy Boulton, where he was given an ensign's commission in 1864. He entered the Military School at Toronto in 1866.

A biography of Reverend John W. Cooley, a minister of Zion Tabernacle, Methodist Church in Hamilton, Ontario, is presented. Born in Peel, Ontario on November 7, 1852, Cooley studied at Brampton High School and the Galt Collegiate Institute. He worked as a school teacher from 1869 until his appointment as junior preacher of the Methodist Church in 1874. He retired temporarily from ministry work due to a throat disease. He married Emily Keeling in August 1878.

He was the eldest child of Solomon Hill and Eleanor Gregory. He was raised in a farm setting, which allowed him to study during winter and assisted in the farm during summer. He entered Victoria College at age eighteen, where he graduated in arts and in law. In 1872, he was nominated for the House of Commons but was defeated and in 1874, he was appointed as a police magistrate of Niagra Falls.

Senkler was born on January 15, 1838 to parents Reverend Edmund John Senkler and Eleanor Elizabeth Stevens in Docking, England. He was educated in mercantile pursuits by his father but later studied law under the Honorable A. N. Richards and the Honorable Edward Blake. He was appointed as a master in chancery on October 15, 1875. He became a local judge of the High Court of Justice for Ontario in March 1882. He married Honor Tett on May 21, 1862.
